06/01/2015 - Currently this place is closed with a For Sale sign in the window. There is a barbecue place a few doors down from this - it is excellent.

I googled for restaurants along my son's drive from Phoenix to Lubbock. He was especially interested in a good BBQ. I saw a good review for the Texas Pit (????), and passed it to him. He stopped for food to eat as he drove. Here's his review: "I went to the cloudcroft restaurant. Ordered ribs and sausage. Threw it out. There was no seasoning whatsoever." Really strong recommendation... to stay away.

We went around 2 on a Monday. We walked in and it was empty and the reviews on here scared us but we decided to be brave. Ok honestly glad we did. We were waiting out the rain storm and the food helped pass the time! The waitress was really nice and brought us our drinks and food pretty quick. I had the catfish dinner. I'm from Texas and making fried catfish was the first thing I learned so I know a good catfish. It was very good! I had the onion rings and Mac and cheese for my sides. Onion rings were good and Mac and cheese was decent. My husband had the beef slide sandwich. He says it was good but was certainly nothing compared to Texas BBQ. Honestly the food was good. Don't come here expecting Texas BBQ cause you'll be disappointed. It's New Mexico so you can't expect glorious BBQ here.

Okay it's 3 in the p.m., smells awesome, place is packed, nowhere to park so we wiggled our butts in between two bikes and ran in for a bite, ordered a sliced beef sandwich to go. The worst dry sandpaper I've ever put in my mouth. Had a sliced beef sandwich, asked to have it cut in half with onions and pickles, they bring it out, yep it was cut, they gave maybe an ounce of watered down wallpaper paste that had been swiped with some brown sauce. No pickles, no onions, just blah. Asked for 2 pieces of cherry pie to go, even that was like something out of a frozen rack at HEB, when you mess with my pie it goes down from there. Only 2 people working, waited 20 minutes to get 2 sandwiches to dine in, and one to go, no zip, no wow factors, why can't they bring an Arby's to town. God Bless them for their efforts.

First of all I do not know what these other critics are complaining about! :p Each time I go to Cloudcroft, I stop by at Texas Pit for BBQ. It taste yummy :) The service is fast and friendly. :) They have picnic style seating inside so it's comfy. I enjoy my lunch here every time. Try it!

I happened to be driving by and my BBQ addiction got the better of me so I had to stop and grab a little something for lunch. I decided to get some brisket (which I guess is what they have listed as "sliced beef') and sausage to go. The sliced beef was fairly dry but had a nice smoke flavor. It wasn't the normal BBQ smoke flavor but it was nice, it was almost a grilled/bbq'd meat flavor, but it was good and I like when people have unique flavors. The sausage also had a unique flavor. It reminded me of my uncle's butcher shop from when I was a kid and I liked it. The smoke flavor was very present but not overly strong. Unfortunately I think it was store bought kielbasa (seems to be common around this area) but the smoke flavor made it good. They also gave me a tub of their "famous" bbq sauce. The sauce was good and much like BBQ sauce should be (in my opinion). It is thick and hearty, with a good tomato base and nice flavor, with just a touch of heat. Unfortunately it seemed like a churched-up version of a store bought BBQ sauce I've had before. Don't get me wrong it is still good but tastes a little commercial. I am going to have to go back and try the rest of their food, especially all the fried stuff, since the owners are from Alabama.

The restaurant was empty when we stopped to eat and the woman that waited on us was very polite. We had a shredded pork sandwich, shredded pork meal, and chicken strips. For sides we had corn-on-the-cob, fries, and macaroni and cheese. The taste of the shredded pork alone was good, but the barbecue sauce was not good at all. It didn't have much flavor, was a bit too watery, and just needs to be revamped completely. The chicken strips were good as was the fries and corn...all just standard fare. The macaroni and cheese was very good. It was the best thing we ate during the visit. Overall, the cost of the meal was too much for the quality and amount of food we received. If the owner(s) threw out the barbecue sauce and really created something amazing in its place I think the restaurant would thrive. The location is perfect and people are willing to drive for good barbecue

What this restaurant lacks in quality food it makes up for in character (Jk because I was actually scared for my life due to some of the signs posted and this restaurant's location).

Nice little restaurant with a homey and western ambiance. My BBQ sandwich was decent. Friendly waitress. I'd eat there again for sure.

Just stopped by this place in a whim; huge ribs and tasty too. The service was fantastic. The catfish was the best I've ever had at a rib place -not covered in batter but just the right amount of crust.

Yuck yuk yuck yuck yuk Yuck yuk yuck yuck yuk yuck yuk Yuck yuk yuck yuck yuk (I have NEVER had a meal as bad as I had at this restaurant. Seriously. It was HORRIBLE. On top of that, the hygiene of the employees was SCARY, to say the least. I am shuddering right now just thinking about it. Stay away... far, far away!!!)

This is the worst Barbecue I've ever eaten. If there is a Texas barbecue restaurant association they should sue this place to make them stop using Texas in the restaurant name. The pork ribs appeared to have been boiled without any seasoning or smoking. We got them as take out and actually threw them away after trying them. The brisket was edible, although quite dry. The shredded chicken seemed to simply be boiled frozen boneless skinless chicken breasts shredded up. We saved that for lunch the next day and it made a decent chicken salad. A red flag should have gone up when the menu listed "smoked beef" and I had to ask "That's brisket, right?" The one bright spot was the fried okra which was very good. I suspect that the other deep fried stuff (catfish, shrimp, hush puppies, etc.) would be fine since the owners are from south Alabama where they know how to deep fry stuff, but don't know anything about slow smoking meat or Texas-style BBQ. They should give up on the BBQ and rename the place Bubba's Catfish Parlor or something.

My husband is from Texas and we thought this restaurant had Texas Bar-b-que! We had to try it because of the advertising Well, it turns out they are not from Texas and the bar-bque is tasteless.I think we ate bland pot roast with very little flavor. I had an iceberg salad with a few sprinkles of cheese and a couple of tomatoes, with a few cubed pieces of ham. We were very disappointed and we would not go back, and would advice our friends not to go. Maybe try Old Town Cloudcroft for a meal? That is what we will do next time!

Most of the food is out of a container. I just don't understand a bar b q spot that doesn't make their own potato salad. I had the pork ribs, hard to be disappointed with ribs, but I was. Save your money and time.
