Simply amazing! We stopped here because of the previous Yelp reviews on a 2-night stay in Carlsbad as we move from KS to TX. My husband was dubious at first but was raving about the place so much by the time we left (uncharacteristic of him, btw), we seriously considered delaying our drive to TX tomorrow by a few hours so we could come back for lunch on the way out of town. We got there during happy hour (3-6pm) which meant cheaper appetizers and beer, a bonus we weren't expecting. The beer selection was great; my husband was pleased to find not one but TWO stouts on the menu, a rarity in most restaurants these days. The poblano cheese fries were outstanding - tons of green chili gravy and melted REAL cheese, not that fake cheesy sauce stuff you get at most places, enough to drown the fries which was perfect. For the entree, we split the 10oz New York Strip and it was outstanding - my salt-fiend hubby didn't even pick up the shaker, the rub on it was that good, and so juicy... I don't know why anyone would tarnish it with the offered A-1 or Heinz 57 sauces; we ate it straight up and wished we had more, though it was a good thing we split because there was still the green chili grits to enjoy, and seriously, people are not kidding when they rave about them. I haven't tasted grits that good in over a decade, and he had NEVER had grits that he actually liked before until now. As stuffed as we were, we could not resist the home-baked German chocolate cake they had on special for dessert... oh my, 3 layers, super moist, delicious frosting... even if I weren't almost 8 months pregnant, I'd have been waddling out of there, hehe. The ambiance is really nice in there; they have an old-school looking wood full bar area in the back, a semi-private section of the dining room on the opposite side, and then the main room. The tables are built on solid wood bases, which is probably a minor detail to most folks but I appreciated it. And a small but welcome detail in the bathroom is they have a shelf in the stall you can put a bag or to-go box on, not just a hook. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive, and we were in and out on a Friday evening without any delays. Overall, we wish we lived closer so we could come back; not sure when we'll ever be out this way again, but we highly, highly recommend it!!

When we first saw the place, it seemed closed from the outside. But don't be fooled! It's been open over a year and has already earned "tastiest eatery" in Carlsbad, at least according to us. When we went for dinner, it was filled with mostly locals but is a great tourist spot. The food was delicious--best buffalo chicken sandwich of my life, no lie. Chicken poblano was also perfect. For a side, you must get the green chile grits. And be sure to try the fried pickles, which come as chips instead of the usual spears. Our top meal during our five-day honeymoon in the southwest!

Simple but tasty pub grub. Everything was fresh and hit the spot. The wedge salad was just right, the jammin burger was juicy, and the buffalo chicken sandwich was crispy with just the right amount of kick to it. Our food came out very fast and very hot. The service was good, and the background music is a good touch in this relaxed atmosphere. If we liced here, we would be back.

Nice decor, clean restaurant, good service. We went at lunch time and ordered sandwiches. My husband ordered the chicken guacamole and I ordered the chicken caprese. The chicken was way over salted and partially burned. They did put a good amount of pesto and fresh mozzarella on there so extra points for that! The bread was rather soggy and I left it on the plate.... Err... Basket. The grits were pretty good. The fries were ok. Might try again.

Best service we've had since being in Carlsbad. Ada Beth was very attentive, sweet & charming. Be sure to ask for her. I typically don't like steaks in restaurants, but the ribeye, grits & appetizer of dirty chips were all amazing. Highly recommended.

Good food the service was great we had a 20 minute wait but it was worth it , the caveman roast beef sandwich was excellent

Great food once you get used to the atmosphere. Entry is uber confusing with a skinny hallway (no entrance signage) and then the hostess station is against a wall so that they actually have their backs to you upon entry. We wondered if we maybe entered the back or something. A guest table poorly placed next to the hostess stand doesn't allow for much clearance. Silver stainless and tin everywhere is a great look. Needs a pop or two of color as even the walls are painted gray. Our server was very kind and knew her menu. I would suggest a uniform shirt or a required apron for all staff as they were hard to spot in the crowd. Pretty noisy place but fairly clean. Need to spotlight the nice bar area better. More lighting would help. Really good food and could be a win win for everyone with just a few changes.

Great concept bad execution. This would be a fantastic place if it was for the disappointment of the food. I ordered 2 bowls of chili both came out cold, I asked for it to be reheated and it seems like the scooped it out of the same pot (undoubtedly with a bad burner or not turned on). So after round two and it being slightly warmer I decided to take the risk and eat the chili since I was so hungry and they weren't really working to solve the problem. Intact they still charged me for it even though it went back twice - but then again I did eat it. Prices reflect the ambiance, but not the hospitality and food execution. This is too bad because this place has real potential to be a hidden modern gem. I wish there was something good I can contrast this review to, but there really wasn't so I can't write about what was good about my experience here, but I'm glad I was only passing through town.

Food was awesome and the service was great. Spicy German and Lucky Bull burgers were both juice and delicious.

Great service! Good food. Nice venue, except for the lack of air conditioning. Parking is ok. What brings my rating down (for one of my three favorite spots in Carlsbad) is the price. Oil field inflation hit this place hard.

The place was quite busy on Friday evening, but we were seated and waited on promptly. Our entrees - sweet chili mahi and tenderloin tips - were both very tasty and true to their description on the menu. The "vegetable of the week" - corn with green chili - was the only disappointment, as it was dry and overly salty. Glasses of wine are pricey and without much choice, but larger than usual; selection of draft beers was good. It was quite noisy, due to cement floors and bare table-tops.

This place is never open, foods alright for carlsbad. Do not trust the hours posted, call first. Also there is a rank smell as soon as you walk in, hopefully thats what they're working on while they're closed.

Please please please get a burger here. Come to sit back and relax, don't be in a rush and you will enjoy a tremendous burger. Oh, and fried pickles. Get those too!

Stayed in Carlsbad for the night. Was looking for a place to get dinner with the kids (2 high school teens). Found it... Service was great, quick and friendly. CAROLYN, was our server and she was wonderful. To start, chips and queso... We then had the Club Sandwich, fish and chips, blue and black burger, and a plain hamburger. With fries and onion rings. Portions were big so, if you eat light, one dish can be split with two people... The onion rings were awesome, the French fries were great. Finished with, brownie with ice cream. Yeah, it didn't last long. If you are looking for a great place to get a meal, with lots of options, good service and great food, this is your place.

This is my favorite restaurant in Carlsbad. Locally ran and owned. They locally buy all produce and meats. The wait to be seated is very short, if any wait at all. The food has always been served hot, fresh, and quickly. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Great restaurant!

So I am a bit of a foodie - This meal was absolutely wonderful - I had the Sweet Chile Mahi with green chile grits....sweet taste of heaven! Great beer selection. Swift service. Wish we had something like this in Clovis! I'm sure the locals want to keep it a secret, but if you are passing through Carlsbad, NM - stop in!

Nice place, excellent service. We both had fish and chips, and they were delicious. Filled with people at 2:30 for lunch, so I'm guessing everything else is also good.

Good beer selection. We had 5 adults and 5 kids- good for groups. Our server was awesome and helpful. She was efficient and kind. The food was really good. We started with the queso and asked for the housemade chips which were delish. I got the glazed mahi, served with the slaw and a mango salsa. It was fresh, firm, perfect balance of spice and flavor. I got the grits as the side and the whole table enjoyed them. :). Other ordered and enjoyed meals: lucky bull burger, fajita nachos, and club. Kids meals are good choices with healthy side choices. We ended with the brownie and ice cream which was a mound for the table to scrape the plate! We definitely would come back. Thank you! Nice surprise in Carlsbad.

If this is not the best restaurant in Carlsbad, it is the second best. It is a clean and casual restaurant with great service. The food is mostly american cuisine with a New Mexico twist. The menu has a wide range from a club sandwich to hand cut ribeye. I have had almost half the food on the menu and was never disappointed. The beer selection is good for Carlsbad. I loved the lucky bull burger with a fried egg, the turkey sandwich with cranberry chutney, and the pecos valley poutine (French fries with green chili gravy, bacon, cheese). They also have really good house made chips. Don't be afraid to try the green chili grits, they are way better than it sounds.

Aw man the dirty chips they make themselves and they're piled high with homemade chili, queso, fresh jalapeños, and some other goodness. You MUST try them! Nice folks, and great service.

Wow! This place is awesome! Thought about saying for a small town but in reality for any place. Visiting from Phoenix and was looking for delicious quality food and this is it! My server was extremely attentive. She help guide me through beer selection, main course and sides like a champ. Smile on her face; friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I had the Mediterranean with beef. Evidently a recent special. Beef with Mediterranean accents such as arugula spring mix, tomato chutney, cucumber, hint of balsamic, onion, goat cheese, etc. Perfect blend but messy... I did not care. Great sandwich! Did shout out to the chef/cook. Well deserved. Santa Fe Black IPA was sublime and the perfect compliment to the sandwich. My server recommended the green chili grits as a side. Fantastic! Nice green chile undertones and just a hint of heat. Overall the best lunch I have had while visiting Carlsbad. When I am here again I will be back.
