I'm from California, which isn't really known for good barbecue, so I didn't really know what to expect when I tried out Danny's Place. Because of this, I was pleasantly surprised to really enjoy the food here! I'm even tempted to say this is some of the best barbecue I've had, but that wouldn't mean much because I haven't had that much to begin with. I ordered the small plate of brisket with a side of coleslaw, which came with bread. Even though this was a small order, I could barely finish half of my order. The small came with 4 slices of brisket, and even though I loved it I couldn't finish more than two pieces! It had a delicious smokey flavor, and combined with the house barbecue sauce it was great. What really blew me away, though, was the coleslaw. It was so creamy, and the lettuce was crisp and fresh. The bread, which was fried in butter making it crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, was also a nice addition. Loved Danny's, and as my first barbecue joint it definitely set a high bar.

After visiting the Carlsbad Caverns, we came here with some family on a Saturday around 2pm. They were busy, but our group of 7 waited less than 20 minutes. This is a very casual, laid back establishment with friendly staff and satisfactory service. They have great options for kids and have no problems making substitutions on your meal. I ordered the choice of 2 meats dinner plate with brisket and pork spare ribs with fried okra and coleslaw as sides (around $14). While the meat was delicious, I'm not the biggest fan of sweet BBQ. However, I had a taste of the sausage which balanced out the sweetness of all the other BBQ. The variety of BBQ is great. The sides were good, but I tried some of the potato salad and it's definitelty just as good...maybe even a little better than the coleslaw in my book. This is a very family friendly restaurant that does not disappoint. Stop by if you're in the Carlsbad area!

We visit Danny's place when we want barbecue. It is a pretty good place to eat. It's pricier than I like to pay for a single meal, but for once in a while, and good barbecue, we'll pay it. The meat is good, the sauce is pretty decent (either the sweet or tangy sauce, though it is often difficult to tell the difference between them while they're still in the bottles), and the sides are good. However, the thing that makes this restaurant for me is the coleslaw. That's right, the coleslaw. I haven't ever eaten coleslaw as good as this, and I've tried a lot of slaw in a lot of places. It's very good. It's enough to get me to come back from time to time, just to have that beside my food. The service is fairly decent, though if you go during a busy time, it can take a while to get noticed for drinks and such, but that's common in Carlsbad, unfortunately. The interior is bright, decorated with country kitsch, and comfortable. I like it.

Nicely done brisket and smoked turkey. Heard the okra was pretty good as was the sausage. BBQ sauce had just a slight ping which I like. Really enjoyed the cole slaw because it wasn't too wet or creamy and sweet. Pinto beans could be a bit smokier though was only drawback but still had decent flavor. Would recommend for a nice spot after the caverns. But note there's no alcohol....but I might have missed that in reading other reviews-was in a hurry.
(4)Karen M.
The food is fabulous! It was served quickly, and it was hot and fresh. We will definitely return. The service was outstanding as well. We were greeted promptly, seated and served quickly without feeling rushed. The portions are large and filling. I could only eat half and ate the other half for lunch the next day. A great value. I highly recommend!
(5)Michael C.
Solid small town BBQ. The brisket had a nice smoke ring and their house BBQ sauces were good. The sides were fine and the staff was friendly. I would come back...
(4)joshua L.
Saw good reviews and thought I would check it out. Had the pulled pork sandwich. The pulled pork was excellent. The BBQ sauce, was tangy and had a slight spice to it. The service was great and my waiter was so nice. Plus it is open early for dinner, which was huge plus. I live in Texas, and this BBQ place is a wonderful gem in Carlsbad!
(5)Nancy G.
My husband and I got a 3 meat plate and split it. We chose brisket, turkey and ribs. The plate comes with pinto beans and 1 other side. We got fried okra. Everything was delicious! Got a piece of pecan pie and it was good. The only down side was the service, which could be a little more attentive.
(4)Alexander J.
Oil field inflated prices ruin a decent bbq restaurant. Parking is not the best, and they were sorely short staffed on that night. The menu is good, as is the food, but it wasn't worth the $30 bill for just myself.
(2)Lavarocker L.
Great lunch! If you are ordering ribs, order the large portion!! This place is noted on the BBQ magazine!!
(4)Shelly S.
While cruising through Carlsbad looking for some grub before heading to the cave we spotted this gem right on the main road through town. The parking lot was completely full but I am so glad that didn't deter us. Upon walking in we were greeted in a friendly manner and seated immediately. Our waitress wasn't the most outgoing but she was friendly enough. She got us our drinks and took our orders within 5 minutes of being there. Soon after our food came out we didn't speak until we devoured every morsel. We had perfectly tender ribs, brisket, pulled pork, two cheeseburgers, mashed potatoes, beans, fries, and the most glorious chocolate cake ever. We were stuffed and happy. I was also satisfied with the price, worth every penny. We are still talking about this wonderful food three days later.
(5)Jen I.
Good food. 80's music. The waitress was really fun. The smothered burrito is massive!! The only thing they need to add is a beer selection.
(4)David L.
By all appearances this is a local favorite. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the place itself has a down home feel. There's full waiter service, and just about every spot was taken. The food was good but not anything to write home about. I had the chopped brisket sandwich lunch special with potato salad and sweet tea. Tragically, the chopped brisket comes pre-mixed with sauce, so the sandwich was more or less a sloppy joe, and the potato salad made me wish I had opted for the friend okra. It's entirely possible that I ordered wrong, so I'd still recommend Danny's as a good local lunch.
(3)Shelly M.
This place has great good and the staff is super friendly. My boyfriend and I came here as a stop on our road trip and we were not disappointed. I got a cheese burger and my boyfriend got a pork sandwich and both were cooked well and came out delicious! Also, the drink sizes are huge!! I'd come back here if I was in town.
(4)Ryan B.
Really wanted to rate this place higher but simply couldn't. For 15 bucks you can't go wrong, but I have to remember, it's still in a small town, so could have been more reasonably priced. The meat was good (sausage, pork, brisket), but I came late and the meat was dry which is probably more my fault. Overall not bad.
(3)Paul H.
Much much better than "the other BBQ place" in Towne. Could only eat half of the Three Meat Plate...
(4)Elizabeth J.
I had the rib dinner and found this to be "dang" good BBQ. The ribs had a good pink smoke ring with the meat easy to pull from the bone. I enjoyed the house vinegar sauce and the slaw was tasty at a reasonable price. About $15 with a drink. Best BBQ in Carlsbad.
(4)Alexandra L.
Worst barbecue place yet. Can't figure out what the big hype is about. Brisket was dry. Had to really tug at the "fall off the bone ribs" and the service was horrible from the woman at the cash register to the waitresses!! Don't go. Find a better place to eat!

Homely, inviting local country kitchen and BBQ joint here with a large menu with all sorts of oddities on it that I wasn't adventurous enough to try. Things like hamburger patties in a taco. We asked the server what the best or most moist BBQ was at the time. She said the brisket so we went for that. Unfortunately the brisket was very dry and not so great. However, the turkey was very moist and tasty. Pickled okra on the side was very nice. Coleslaw not bad at all. Collard greens were quite good. Overall, we had a nice meal here so can't really complain.
(3)Joan B.
We had the Smothered Burrito that was delicious! We also had the beaf brisket that was very dry and tasteless. Maybe it was not made that day. Staff was very friendly.
(3)Melissa K.
The BBQ was great! I had the ribs and beef brisket. The potato salad was yummy too. I would definitely go if you are in the Carlsbad area and want some good food! It's casual and there were a lot of locals eating there.
(4)Dona A.
Good food but the service was less than stellar. I had the two-meat combo with brisket and sausage. It was quite good. But the service was inattentive. The waitress seemed bored. I actually had to go up to the counter to ask for something. Sorry that I had to interrupt the riveting conversation you were having with your co-worker, sweetheart.
(3)Ronald V.
Recommended by a young woman in the Carlsbad Cavern gift shop, we were not disappointed, and neither will you. The brisket and ribs were excellent; potato salad like home made. Only wish was a compatible dessert, like pie or cobbler.
(5)Dale N.
Great service and fair prices for BBQ. Try the onions and pickles with your meal....adds so much flavor to the beans. Overall, recommended.
(4)Theresa Y.
Clean place, friendly service, great bar be que! Yum! A good place to stop after viewing the caverns!
(5)Casey F.
Good food, good service. My only complaint is that I asked for pickles and peppers to have with my meal and they brought me a pickled okra and pickle spear...not what I was expecting.
(3)Justine A.
Fantastic food and service! Even my kids loved it and they are picky eaters. Small place and limited parking so to avoid a wait I suggest avoiding the dinner rush.
(5)Sarai G.
The staff was friendly but the food was just okay. The pulled pork was delicious but everything else was just okay and the food took a really long time to come out (35 minutes). Although it has character for days.
(3)Melissa S.
Delicious!!! Went with my husband and 4 children and everyone loved what they got! Hamburger, ribs, fries, pulled pork sandwich, coleslaw, chips and salsa! Everything was so good!
(5)Daniel Z.
Easy to miss, but you better not! This might be the best BBQ joint in SE New Mexico! I had the chopped beef sammy & okra. It was delish. I plan on making this place a regular, as I'm in C-bad regularly for business.
(5)Annette G.
Went to Danny's Place because my family said the ribs were good. We were a large group I'll admit that but we are a very friendly and well behaved bunch. There didn't seem to be a table large enough for us (about 12 including one toddler) So we asked if we could add another table to our small 2 1/2 table setting. We were very very crowded in the back corner of the restaurant. The manager insisted I could not add another table because then she wouldn't be able to seat another large party IF another party arrived. There were 4 other people in the restaurant and NO ONE else ever came in. I even took pictures! My cousin told me not to be upset because this had happened to her previously there. I considered it extremely rude not to take care of paying customers that were already there. And for a vegetarian they sure don't have very many options. A greasy "flip" or an overgrown soggy bean burrito. Yuck.
(2)China W.
Danny's Place is excellent for affordable and casual dining in Carlsbad. I got a pulled pork sandwich and there was sooooo much meat. It was very tasty as well; I just wish I could have eaten the whole thing. My dad got a cheeseburger that was pretty decent. My mom ordered a burrito, which was the cheapest meal out of the three and also the largest. The service was good and quite fast, so we were able to eat quickly before heading back to the caverns. The sandwich I had definitely provided enough fuel for the hike!
(4)Pena P.
The Good: The food was delicious. The BBQ beef sandwich was juicy and flavorful. What ever they cooked it in was wonderful. The coleslaw was OK. The mashed potatoes and gravy was absolutely delightful. Very smooth and the gravy was thick and seasoned well. The Bad: It would have been a 4-star, but our waitress ruined it. She was cold and really looked like she hated being there. The other waitresses started arguing with each other in front of us about cleaning a table. The blonde girl with glasses was the only one doing her job right and in a professional manner. The hostess with the neck tattoo looked like she was waiting to get off shift or go to the bathroom. She kept pacing and getting ansy or something. Our waitress ignored us and just worried about filling the BBQ bottles. We practically had to set up lights and flag her down to get our check. No idea what her name was, but avoid her section. The Ugly: They were practically out of everything. Not their fault though, their fryer broke so the menu was limited.
(3)Tiffany W.
Drove into Carlsbad after a day of visiting the caverns and wanted to hit up a local joint, found Danny's place right on the "strip"! Homely but delicious, with a dash of good service...worth the stop! P.S. Can I meet Danny?
(3)Frank W.
Quite possibly the best brisket I've ever had! Amazing sides. Salad was perfect. Good service! Would definitely recommend this place to anyone traveling through the area.
(5)Steven Y.
For some amazing reason the town of Carlsbad has many restaurants that are not open on Saturday or Sunday when all the tourists are in town to visit the caverns. Luckly Danny's Place keeps it's doors open, and is serving up some good tasting BBQ. We arrived at Danny's Place just before 2:00 in the afternoon and the restaurant was still busy. We were able to get a table for 5 right away, and the service was nice and efficient. I wanted to try the brisket, so I got the small BBQ dinner with beef brisket. The brisket portion was nice and it came with one side and a roll. I could not tell if the roll was really a hotdog bun that was place on the grill and smashed, or if it was truly a roll. For my side, I had the garden salad. It was a nice mix of chopped lettuce and shredded vegetables like carrots and cabbage. The only dressing available is ranch dressing, so if you like something other than ranch you had better bring it with you. The salad also came with two nice quarter sections of a very nice red tomato. The beef was of course the star of the dinner, as it should be. The portion size was nice and the meat was tender with a nice bark on the outer edges. One of my pieces had some burnt ends on it, and they were delicious. The BBQ is served with two different sauces. One of the sauces is made right there at the restaurant and is a vinegar based sauce. It was very good, but the second sauce was a sweet and spicy sauce, which I ended up using more with my meal. This was a great spot for lunch and the prices were very fair. If you are looking for a good, honest meal in Carlsbad you will not be disappointed with Danny's Place.

Apparently this is the only place open in town in Carlsbad that is open on a Saturday for dinner (that is not fast food, or the one fancy-pants place in town) and it is BUSTLIN'. We ordered the two meat dinners and it took a really long time to get our food. The food was alright but not memorable. Wish there were more choices for dinner in Carlsbad...
(3)Kris W.
This is what I would refer to as "middle of the pack BBQ". It's not bad, somewhat tasty, but compared to other places I've had around the country (Brushfire in Tuscon, AZ for example), it's fairly standard fare. The pinto beans were quite good, ribs were fine. I sampled the brisket that my friend had ordered which was okay as well. It's just kind of the definition of "a serviceable meal". Atmosphere is a bit strange, it's an old Country Kitchen restaurant (looks like grandma's house) and they apparently switched to BBQ at some point without redecorating? It was up the street from another restaurant with a banner "Best Mexican Food" with chinese characters right below, so maybe spontaneous menu switching is par for the course in Carlsbad.
(3)Edwin C.
Nice little BBQ place. Don't think a lot of the locals have seen Asians before (or often) because we got a lot of stares. Good thing was that the one person we didn't feel was staring at us was our waitress, who was very cordial and helpful. What I liked: - HUGE portions... 3 meat dinner plate (plus small order of fries) was $17 and fed me and my wife - Coleslaw... nice mix of mayo and cabbage. Quite refreshing actually. - the 2 BBQ sauces on the table; my preference was the vinegar (North Carolina style) sauce - Pulled pork and brisket were must haves. If you only get a 2 meat dinner plate (probably typical for a hungry man to order for themself), get those two What I liked less: - ribs were ok... definitely fall off the bone, but flavor was so-so. Glad it was included as an option for the 3 meat dinner Not many choices in Carlsbad, NM..... this is DEFINITELY a place to eat at if you're around town.
(5)Shuai S.
The food is great! Everything is done just right. I have been here twice, and the quality of food has been consistently good. Certainly will be the place of choice when I go to the caverns again.
(5)Teri K.
Very goooooood FOOD!!! The service even better! Our drinks never got low, food was hot, the taste was spot on!!! We had the pepper burger and bacon burger they were so delicious we had to order 2 more! Which came out pretty quick considering how busy they were. My wife had the ribs and pulled pork and they too were amazing! Great sweet tea served cold even without the ice. Most stop and enjoy!!!
(5)Mario S.
Food is really good and the portions are big. The ribs peel off the bone, the brisket is really good plus they have turkey and sausage links which are also good . The service is top notch you never have to wait long for waitress and she is always on top of things. Highly recommend
(5)Jenni M.
I'm a fan of this place because... It's owned locally. Good location. Parking lot has kind of a weird set-up though. Also, my husband said he thought their sign could have caught his attention a little better. They offer fairly affordable, hearty meals. Try the pulled pork sandwich (I prefer the sweeter BBQ sauce), fries, & sweet tea. My husband really liked their ribs and mashed potatoes (cream gravy). I heard the 3-meat plate (ribs, brisket, & sausage) is pretty good too. There was a new, yet very attentive waitress while we were there in June '12. She did a good job. It's a seat yourself environment which I also liked. This was always my go-to place when I traveled in & around C-bad or Loving. Review #57
(4)Eric G.
Dissapointed. Thought food was bad, service was horrible!!! We got seated, then probably about 3 more parties got seated a little after us did and all 3 got served before we did, probably locals but still, you gotta do better than that. No beer... WTF?! seriously?! BBQ w out beer? first BBQ place I've been to that doesn't serve alcohol. So had to drink water w my BBQ. No thank you never again.
(1)Dave T.
Was looking for some eats around 1:30 today - noticed all the cars at Danny's. Knew this was a good indication that this was the place to be. Sure enough, the BBQ was awesome!! Great service too.
(5)Ryan H.
After a long day of spelunking, the food hit all with right spots. The meat was moist, fall off the bone tender (I had the ribs), and most importantly, smokey. The french fries were nothing special, the beans were beans (not BBQ beans, just plain Pintos, but I added the necessary ingredient to make them BBQ), the fried okra hot, crispy on the outside and slimy on the inside (Perfect!). I did not have room for dessert, so cannot comment on such. The price was appropriate for the portions. The decor was not impressive, but who cares when you are eating good food. It was clean, that's what counts. There were only 2 servers for a large number of people, but it only seemed 1 server was actually doing any work. So service was a little slow (but courteous), and the food seemed to take a little longer to come out compared to other BBQ restaurants. Most importantly, remember where we are folks. (Where are we?) Carlsbad, NM. What is Carlsbad other than a small town near one of the most amazing holes in ground. This place is a gem among the seemingly endless dirt. Carlsbad offers a few chain restaurants, several common fast food joints, and a Chinese Buffet (or 2). Not my scene. So if you want some good BBQ in the middle of nowhere, stop here if you're passing thru.
(4)Vikki Z.
If you are looking for big portions, this is your place for BBQ. Three of us ate the 3 meat dinner with one extra side order and we all left full. Was surprised that they didn't have spicy BBQ sauce but mix in the original with the sweat one was a good combination. Our server was nice, friendly and kept our drink glasses full. If you ave a large party, come in during the off hours or you may have to wait. Parking lot is also very small.
(5)Risa L.
Birthday dinner a success!! Husband and I split the 3 meat dinner: brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. It was enough for both is us. My 14 month old happily are off my plate too. 7 year old had the cheeseburger and devoured it. If we are ever in Carlsbad again we'll stop by again!
(4)Stacy P.
This is a situation where I have to remind myself that a three star review just means "A-OK." And that's exactly what my meal at Danny's was. I stopped in on my way from Texas to Colorado based on Yelp reviews - ordered the ribs with potato salad and mashed potatoes. The ribs had good flavor, but were pretty tough - I do like that they served the meal with two kinds of BBQ sauce, the lighter of which I really enjoyed. Both versions of potatoes were just okay - I had a lot left over, but neither was worth taking for leftovers. I had no problems with the service - the woman who took care of me was friendly and efficient, and another man working there checked up on me when she was busy. So, Danny's is A-OK! I'm not sure how Carlsbad's BBQ scene is, but I expect you could do way worse than Danny's.
(3)Wendy W.
Great service and very good food. Child friendly restaurant. My husband ordered the ribs and said they were good. I was initially disappointed when I saw the menu, as it was nothing like the menu shown on yelp (which showed a bunch of appealing vegetarian stuff) and my options were limited to the smothered bean burrito or ordering a grilled cheese off the kids menu. I had the burrito and was sure glad I did: it was really delicious, smothered in green chile New Mexican/Southwestern style. It was a worthwhile detour to get a yummy lunch while visiting the caverns.
(4)Amy W.
Overall the food was pretty good- the meat was fantastic, 5 stars. The sides were ok, 3 stars. There's no beer served here at all, which was disappointing to find out after a long day. The waitress could have been a little more on top of things too, but overall it's worth stopping.
(4)Denise M.
Love love love this place!! Food is great!! Try the sliced brisket sandwich, it's to die for!!!!! You will not be disappointed!
(5)Ed F.
Read reviews in Yelp so we gave it a shot ... perhaps a bad night. Kitchen was backed up a bit ... had the BBQ brisket sandwich, which was good. Turkey was good too. The flip should be avoided ... less than great experience but perhaps an on off night.
(2)A L.
BBQ was good...good smoke, good flavor, good sauce. Nothing special, but perfectly fine for small town joint. Service not friendly, but efficient. Sadly, no beer or wine :(
(3)Pam L.
We were so glad to find Danny's Place! Yummy pulled pork and the bun was delish! Good ribs and the sauce was great! Loved the potato salad too!
(4)Maren E.
Fast, affordable, and friendly. We had sandwiches and a combo plate. Nothing extraordinary, but it was good!
(4)Catie G.
I love the food, but the service can be slow and the waitresses are so moody. I just make a habit of getting take out now. Same tasty food without the attitude. The pulled pork, brisket and ribs are amazing. The flavor and the sauce are a perfect combination. The ribs are fall of the bone. Coleslaw is usually good, but every now and then it will be off. Like it wasn't fresh. I don't like their big steak fries or potato salad. I usually just stuff my self with the meat and coleslaw.
(4)Alicia S.
We had the small portion meals, I had the turkey and a side salad with ranch an a buttered roll. Turkey was great but not so much for the rest.
(2)Mary Jo S.
Danny's Place gets an extra star from me because they stay open past 8:00 and have very friendly service. They also serve tasty barbecue and if you do not believe me, they won the 2009 Carlsbad Best Barbecue Award. I had the 3 rib dinner with fried okra, the husband had the large brisket dinner which was enough for sandwiches the next day, and our caving friends had pulled pork sandwiches. All were good and accompanied with sides of your choice. Danny's Place does not have a bar but they do have bottomless soda and Pink Lemonade. Worth the stop in Carlsbad and definitely should be on your list if you are staying in Carlsbad for a few days.
(4)chakkuri w.
My husband and I were driving through Carlsbad during a recent cross country trip and stumbled across Danny's Place. The full parking lot should have clued us in. The decor is country and homey. While the service was not impeccable, it was adequate enough. I ordered the small brisket plate with potato salad. Although I usually prefer my bbq wet, the smoked brisket was so flavorful that I did not use too much of the sauces that were offered. One sauce was sweet and quite good. The other was their special blend but I found it too vinegary. The potato salad was okay. My husband went the southwestern route and got a burrito plate whoch he really enjoyed. This was one of the betterplaces we found during our trip and we are glad we decided to stop inside.
(4)Nick M.
My buddy and I stopped in here after a day of visiting the caves. Saw the good reviews here on yelp, so decided to give them a try. We each ordered the beef brisket sandwich platter; brisket, potato salad, and beans... EXCELLENT BBQ BRISKET !!! - Very tasty, smoky flavor, tender & spicy, etc. Way above average brisket. Our waiter (I think his name was Craig) was very nice to us. However, the lady cashier was extremely rude and seemed distant. She demanded that we switch tables because it sat 4 instead of just two, and the other tables were dirty and not cleaned off yet. Other than the semi lackluster service here, the food is awesome and deserves 5 stars, they just lose 2 stars for the attitude. We may come back for the delicious bbq, but may choose to go elsewhere if we see that lady working the register again.
(3)Owen S.
Pretty good BBQ. The best I have found in the area so far. Descent prices and a variety of BBQ. Coleslaw was good- not overly mayoed. Beef brisket is great, I would gladly go back for that. I wish the buns for the sandwiches were a little better, but the brisket made up for it. Fried okra was crisp and fries were the large style. This is a great lunch spot in Carlsbad, I'll go there again!
(4)Roxanne K.
Hot damn they have some serious BBQ here! We went for lunch and everyone at the table was seriously impressed with the brisket and pulled pork! Two flavors of bbq, sweet and tart are provided for your pleasure and service is spot on. Well worth the price and parking can be tricky with all the construction... but don't give up, you won't be sorry!
(5)Sandy N.
Very popular during lunch. We came here on our way to Roswell after seeing the Carlsbad Caverns. I had a small bbq rib dinner, it was delicious. Yes, their bbq sauce is very good! I am usually not a fan of crinkled fries, but they were pretty tasty. I also got a Texas Toast with my dinner. It was just butter on Toast.
(4)Stephanie F.
Love this place in Carlsbad! 4 hours later, and I'm still burping up the amazing BBQ sauce! We liked this place so much that we ate here for dinner twice in a row. The first night, I got ribs in the small portion size, which consisted of three meaty ribs. By itself, it has the taste of the natural woodchips it's been cooking over; so feel free to slather those delicious BBQ sauces that are at your disposal. The 2 BBQ sauces they give are sweet (my favorite by far) and vinegar-based. Brisket was also good. The service the first night was only A-OK - the waitress didn't offer us the yummy desserts probably because she thought our we were too puny to stomach anymore food. The second night, I had a pulled pork sandwich which I washed down with their sweet iced tea (SIT) Now I'm no SIT connoisseur but it was pretty tasty to me and they do give free refills. The pulled pork sandwich was DRENCHED in the sweet BBQ sauce; the fries were fat and crispy; and this time our waitress offered us dessert! Great eatery to check out if you want to dodge all the Sonics you find on I-285!

This is a pretty casual restaurant. It used to be a Dairy Queen about 10 years ago, but the owners dropped the franchise. The BBQ here is really good. All the meat is very tasty...they have a smoker behind the restaurant that they cook it on. If you are looking for something more southwestern, the tacos are a great pick. The restaurant is kept clean inside and the service is usually alright. Unfortunately, it can take some time to get food (20 to 25 minutes).

Can you say factory crap? I'm not sure what passes as BBQ in a town as small as Carlsbad but over a road trip into the Carlsbad Caverns, we had the disappointment of stopping in here to eat. My partner's pork ribs were possibly the only thing served that constituted food. My brisket was dry and flavorless the fired okra was soggy and bland as was the potato salad and cole slaw. Salad - why not but don't worry about getting asked what type of dressing you'd like. Every "Ready-Pac" salad you order comes with a side of runny ranch. Homemade biscuit with that? Nope - but you can have some sort of Wal-mart version of a dinner role. Not my best dining experience.
(1)Robert C.
BBQ brisket was little dry but overall nice place. Service was good and plenty of food. Worth a stop in.

Food was pretty good, service was mediocre at best. The BBQ list is pretty limited on the menu and they were out of a few things on our visit. The hostess wasn't writing any names down for the long wait, which caused some parties to be skipped accidentally. Luckily this didn't happen to us but we witnessed it happen twice to people waiting there before us. Once seated after about half an hour (it was a busy Sunday afternoon) our server took quite a while to get drinks, our order, refills, etc. Danny, get it together!

BBQ :) Yummy BBQ! Had a pulled pork sandwich with fries and it was YUMMY! 2 types of sauce, both excellent and the meat was perfect. Worth the stop! Good service, cute place, reasonably priced.

Very good BBQ. Eat here when visiting the Cavern

Food is sooooooo good! Service is pretty slow though, and they could smile a bit more. They are awfully stingy with their plastic forks and napkins for to-go orders. Still, absolutely yummy food! I do recommend this place!

Not much in Carlsbad to rave about, but Danny's is a nice exception. The smothered burrito I had was huge and the best I've had in years. Nice, delicate flavors with green chilis, onions and beans inside. Don't plan on doing much after eating here, though.

Coming from Austin TX, we had high expectations for BBQ reading all the Yelp reviews. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The brisket itself was ok, but the sides were not good at all. The reality is there isn't much to eat in Carlsbad.

Tasty smoked meats, generous portions, friendly staff, great value, family friendly. We found this place in Frommer's New Mexico book, and our hotel receptionist also highly recommended this restaurant. It's a local favorite, but we were greeted and treated as regulars. Try the brisket, it's delicious! We will come back again!

On a recent stop in Carlsbad, we had a chance to sample the fare from Danny's BBQ. The assortment we had was quite good, but we found both the sausage and sauce too sweet for our Texas BBQ tastebuds. The sausage was more like a Kielbasa and only lightly smoked. The sauce was sweet and didn't have the typical "zing" of a more vinegar based sauce. The ribs, chopped beef and brisket were very good. Their potato salad, fried okra and french fries were all above average. No alcohol served - just tea and softdrinks.

We found this place in our guide and tried it out. Really good BBQ and that's hard to say coming from TX! The ribs were great and all the kids loved their dishes. Great place!

Great BBQ, especially the pulled pork and pork ribs. Disappointed in instant mashed potatoes though. Reason for 3 stars: Very unfriendly atmosphere and staff. We actually went two days in a row hoping that we were just imagining things but were validated the second time around. Note to owner, making Out-of-Towners feel unwelcome is not the way to attract tourist.

Food was good, service was fast but not particularly friendly. Great prices ! I ordered the three meat combo and split it with my mom and two little kids and still had some left over. Biggest bummer was no beer or wine, but felt better about that on the road to Roswell when we encountered the DWI Checkpoint!!!

We settled for Danny's Place because the Red Chimney was closed. It was good but the service was slow and they tend to treat tourists like the outsiders we are. It wasn't warm and fuzzy and we were stared at from the servers and the local small towners; possibly because we were the only biracial family in the restaurant but it was quite uncomfortable. If only they sold booze so that we could really give them a show ; ) So glad we live in California.

Went to Danny's Place when passing through Carlsbad. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich which was really tasty! I was not that keen on the potato salad, but the sandwich was good. Standard service, nice family-like atmosphere, and good selection of bbq items. If I went back, I'd get the pulled pork sandwich again. For a local joint, I would always go here before the chain restaurants.

I saw the review for Danny's on yelp while we where in town and thought we should give it a try. The food was awesome and the service was impeccable. I look forward to eating here again when I come back through.

VERY VERY good barbeque-and I'm from Texas in the heart of barbeque country. I sampled the pulled pork, sausage, brisket, and ribs and they were all yummy. I would go back in a heartbeat if I was passing through again. The tea was even good which did suprise me considering they were using the water in NM! :)

We were passing through Carlbad on our way to the Caverns and found this place via Yelp. All I can say is thanks! Great BBQ-I had the combo plate with brisket, turkey and pork (with special mention of the pork). Service was fast and crisp. Only thing is that the sauce (I'm a sweeter BBQ sauce fan-not a big fan of the original vinegar based sause) ranked only as "good" on my scale. A little heat and it would be "very good". Regardless, highly recommend, especially as other BBQ place we tried (Red Chimney) was not open when we went through.
