Best chicken fried steak EVER! It doesn't matter if you have it for breakfast smothered with green chili on hash browns with eggs or lunch with gravy and mashed potatoes it is amazing. Made fresh when you order it and it covers the plate. We have never been disappointed with anything we have ordered and have been here many times for breakfast and lunch.

I love Vicks! The food is consistently excellent. The staff are kind and helpful. The vaqueros is my favorite but I have liked everything I have ordered. The chili is superb! Can't get enough!!! Meals are large enough to share.

A hidden gem ! Travelling down Osuna it is easy to miss it, if heading east, look to your right after passing Chappell. Vic's offers excellent New Mexican fare in a quaint but polite almost homely atmosphere. Plus remember - always check the specials boards.

blazing fast kitchen. Super friendly service. Great food. Whats not to like. Will be a regular stop from now on.

I decided to try this place with my sons since it's in our neighborhood and the reviews are good. I am truly baffled how it has 4 1/2 stars. The food was truly mediocre. I had huevos rancheros which was served on a flour tortilla, it always comes on corn and I prefer that. The chile was decent but needed more heat. My son's had French toast, bacon and hash browns. The bacon was disgusting, too salty and of low quality. The hash browns were obviously frozen and from a bag. The syrup was corn syrup filled fake "maple" syrup. The coffee was terrible, it tasted like folgers. The only saving grace was that the service was excellent and the food came out fast even though the place was very busy. I think I am coming to the conclusion that many of the highly rated places I have eaten that really were only mediocre is due to the fact that a lot of people are used to poor quality food and don't know any better.

Love. This. Place. Cannot remember how we found it but no longer care, just SO happy we get to go there. Vic is a really nice guy who is always keeping an eye on service, making sure people are happy. I noticed him the first time we went in, asked if he was Vic, and since then, he always remembers us. Awesome. The food is fabulous. Any Greek place has a leg up in my book, but when the food lives up to my expectations, YAY!!! But it's not just Greek, they have a variety of New Mexican and classic American diner food as well. And it is all truly, deeply delicious. The servers are always busy but courteous, and the prices are fair. The floor needs to be swept a bit more often, but it's a small, family-run place and I don't care about the floor as much as the food. It gets packed like crazy on Sundays, so time your visit - go early or late. It's only open for breakfast and lunch, which is a major bummer, but makes me want to get out of bed some weekends, just to have a tasty meal at Vic's. Say hi to Vic and order something yummy - wont be difficult, there's a whole menu of yummy to choose from!

We drove all the way to Vic's to take out breakfast burritos based on Yelp reviews. We won't do it again. We have similar places with great food closer to home. But hey, if you are in the neighborhood, I would recommend stopping in.

  • Diana T.

Doesn't look like much from outside, but inside it's big, clean, well-lit, nice art on the walls. Service and coffee are prompt and plentiful and the Breakfast Burritos with green chile are enormous, heavenly, and affordable. We'll stop here again!

  • Kelley S.

Very good. A hole-in-the-wall place that is much larger than it looks from outside. This was recommended to us by security at the balloon park and we were not let astray. While sitting there at least 6 balloon teams came to eat so it's someplace that has a reputation and keeps people coming back. I asked what their specialty was and was immediately told the chicken fried steak, so of course that is what I had to order. I got the one with the chili sauce, not traditional. They very nicely brought both red and green sauces on the side. This was served with 2 eggs, potatoes and biscuits... a HUGE meal for the price. I don't think I've ever had chicken fried steak before this experience, but this one was huge and tasty. Their biscuits were excellent too. We don't live anywhere near here, but if we are ever back in this area we will be stopping in. Friendly staff, okay coffee and excellent food.

I've always had a weekend breakfast at Vic's. I think the food is okay. The price are good and the service but the food is a little bland. I tryed it for lunch with a client the other day, they had really interesting specials and good choices for lunch. Both me and my client enjoyed it.

Its a homey little diner in a cramped little strip mall office area. I had to come here twice before I saw how this place stays in business. Trip 1, I got a waffle. I wasn't impressed. It was nothing special, just a waffle. Eh. Trip 2, I was told I was doing it all wrong, order a burrito. I ordered a loaded up custom burrito, bacon, carne arvada, sour creme, extra cheese, hash brown, egg, smothered in red chili. When it came out, it was the size of a brick. Yum! I now see the error of my ways. Try it out, my friends. Its homey, very casual, and they make a mean giant burrito with anything you want in it.

I enjoyed my meal here. We were visiting ABQ for the weekend, this is where I grew up and I'm very particular about what and where I eat when I visit. We wanted to find something near our hotel and this had fairly good reviews so we tried it out. First thing we notice is it's very busy on a Sunday morning! Good sign. Then we notice how incredibly friendly everyone is! Great service! Then the food comes out and the servings are huge!! If we had a fridge in our hotel we could have taken home lots of food but we didn't. I had the carne adovado plate with eggs and it was very good, not the best I've had but good. My older kid had the chicken fried steak and thought he was in heaven! Decent coffee. For the area this is nice, super friendly and decent food!

A late afternoon delight....the Big Daddy(momma) plate. With a doggie bag so I have room for pie! Coconut Cream with a coconut crust....I never knew I loved chicken fried steak!!!!

Large portions of good food. Every one in my family left happy. Chicken fried steak filled up my teenager. Huveos and carne were delicious. Very friendly staff. We will be back...

Wow. Picked this place based on good reviews from yelp and I am so glad I listened to you all. I had the #3 which is their specialty. Amazing. My bf had huevos con chorizo with red. It was just as heavenly delicious as mine. The service was excellent. My coffee cup never went below half before a refill appeared. I'm not sure what you would eat here if you were on a diet. Let this be your cheat place. You won't be disappointed! 2 people, coffee, oj, entrée x2= 25.00.

  • Lisa T.

Found this place on Yelp, and was not disappointed. Good food at great prices. What I really liked is that they thought outside the box with breakfast. One of their breakfast specials was eggs Benedict on crab cakes with Hollandaise sauce. It was delicious, and they used real crab meat. Staff was friendly and attentive. I ate the #5 which consisted of 2 pancakes, egg, and bacon. It was cooked to order and tasted homemade.

This place is close to my house and good for a quick bit to eat. Not fancy, but the food hits the spot. Sometimes serving is a little slow, but it has kinda got that easy going feel to it. I would say it's a little like a local diner.

    (3)
  • Wes T.

Fan-flippin'-tastic food and service. Eating here is a treat, not because it's super fancy or expensive or hard to get into, but rather because it's just good ol' down home cooking and incredible service. These people are in the business because they love what they do, and it shows. From the second you walk in you are their focus, and they take care of your taste buds while really making sure you enjoy yourself. I'd eat here every day if I could.

Great food can't get a bad meal. The only issue that I have is to many choices. Busy place but there is a reason for that.

  • Rebecca C.

My first experience with Vic's was less than stellar, but the customer service and recovery led to my giving it another try. I was not disappointed. I tried the carne adovada and throughly enjoyed it. Large chunks of meat covered in red chile reminded me why I returned to NM for my chile fix. The beans were flavorful but were (fortunately) not the focus of the dish. My partner had the Vaquero and the bite I tried of it was delicious (I'm not particularly fond of fried things and chicken fried steak is not a favorite, but this was wonderful!!). If you're on the fence about this place I'd say give it a shot. Or if, like me, your first impression was less than impressive give it another go. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by Vic's.

Great spot for breakfast, the biscuits are a little disappointing but other than that the food was good.

Tried it for lunch today. They get a good and LOUD lunch crowd. Yes, the noise level was very distracting. I got the Heartland Pork Loin Cutlet with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Fried pork loin is rare in the Duke City. This one was very good. Stole some of my wife's red chile to make it even better. The staff was friendly. Just don't be here for a quick lunch. It is too busy for that to happen around noon.

Great food, great service, great prices and great pies!! Thank you to the staff for providing Albuquerque with such a consistent place to go with family and friends. For parties or holidays, order the whole pies. You won't be disappointed.

    (5)
  • Karen M.

Service was a tad slow today but they are forgiven due to the delicious pumpkin French toast they served me this morning. The holiday special of pumpkin French toast served with pumpkin compote and whip cream was by far the best I've ever had.

  • Sam K.

Absolutely worth it! The place is filled with pictures of greece- and it's got the best vibe- I got the vaqueros- a homemade extra large portioned chicken fried steak smothered with green chilli and cheese and under neath it the plate has both beans and hashbrowns - trust me if you can finish this plate your wont be able to eat for like 8 hours- anyway besides the portions being ginormous the quality of the plate was absolutely worth talking about - the staff was friendly and cooperative and willing to help with my order - loved it and plan on returning everytime I'm in albq nm

Fairly typical if a little spruced up dinner atmosphere. Exceptionally friendly staff. Food that is both well made and incredibly filling. Some of the best chicken fried steak I have ever had and good chili to boot.

I don't just give 5 stars but this place seared me immediately, had my food out in 5 minutes omlette and pancakes waitresses on the ball and the place is clean

Amazing breakfast/lunch diner. It's a little off the beaten path but well worth seeking out. We had the "El Gordo" breakfast burrito and the Bomba Bella. My wife remarked that they were the BEST tenders and gravy she has ever had, and that's saying a lot. My burrito was similarly fantastic. I must point out that their green chile was magnificent. (Yes, I am throwing out the $10 words in this review, but this place is the real deal and deserves it.) We couldn't quite make it to the cinnamon roll for dessert and had to take it to go, but it is about the size of a land mine and comes with butter and icing to add after warming. And the service (always a point with us) was nothing short of perfect. The manager came over to chat a couple of times, our drinks were always full, and the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. I rarely do reviews, but when the place is this good, I have to acknowledge it. 5 stars! (Edit: my wife asked me to add that the restaurant is immaculately clean!) :)

Now I want to try their breakfast that everyone is raving about. We stopped in for a quick lunch the other day. Situated in a small industrial office complex parking is terrible if they and the neighboring businesses are busy. Fortunately we were lucky enough to find a spot. My lunch companion had their HUGE Duke City Turkey w/green chili, guac and cheese, she could only eat half of it, but said it was very good. The pasoli was also very good she says. My lunch consisted of decent coffee and their Santa Barbara Chicken Club with cheese, bacon, guac (almost as good as mine) and salsa (almost as good as mine). It made for a messy sandwich that was (a little wet, but) extremely tasty. Perhaps a little steeply priced for a chicken club. The guacamole was reminiscent of my home made stuff with bits of jalapenos and other essential ingredients. I must say I was expecting a lot less and was very pleased. The service was excellent. They were busy but they were able to seat us quickly. I never saw the bottom of my coffee cup and they even served my side of mayo on the first try. Again, I am very interested in checking them out for breakfast. Get there early and expect to wait a little for a seat. Well worth the short wait to be serviced by such friendly people serving some exceptional food.

  • Ericka K.

Bottomline: The food was decent. Slightly over priced for diner food but not bad overall. Seems like they tried to put too many things on the menu instead of specializing on a few key items. I tried the chicken pita because there were Greek pictures on the walls and specialties listed in the menu... it was ok, not great. The potato salad was pretty good. I saw after we left that the chicken fried steak is the reason to go... should have tried that instead.

We've been eating at Vic's since before I can remember! Barbie, the hostess is one of the sweetest people and brightens your day when you come in, Vic is almost always there and is always quick to fix anything that is wrong, I enjoy all the weight staff except for 3 of the waitresses that are not so great- wish they would get rid of them and hire someone new who is better and more personable. Their food is wonderful and I throughly enjoy their French Toast, breakfast burritos and the red chile is to die for. They also will cook you pretty much anything you want. My brother used to get a chicken fried steak omelette with gravy on it and everything and they never say no to any request you might have.

Wow....all I can say is Vic's is AWESOME. We had 3 families (12 people) going through town on our way to the mountains for spring break. I Yelp'ed to find a breakfast place. With high reviews, we left our hotel and I called ahead as we had a large group. We were able to get on the list and had a table 5 mins after we arrived. I cannot remeber the name of what I oredered, but everyone loved their meal. I will put this on my list anytime I pass throuh town.

As soon as the server heard that it was my first visit, she said, "hey, let me introduce the guy that cooked your breakfast..." I had the chicken fried steak swimming in green chile. EXCELLENT! Tender tasty yummmy. The owner came to say hi. (All of this during balloon fiesta) I just loved this place. Dessert case brought a tear to my eye, cuz i was too full to chew. Look for me to pop up as a vics regular.

One of my favorite breakfast spots and good for both New Mexican breakfast (huevos, of course - try the navajo style sometime!) and for more Southern style breakfasts like the pork cutlet or chicken fried steak. The service is great every time and the food has never disappointed! Ok, so I really love Vic's, but I do have two tiny nitpicks: first, parsley garnish on every plate is unnecessary and annoying. Second, why do you put the fried eggs underneath the chicken fried steak instead of on top? Makes no sense to me!

Was there for breakfast on Sunday morning and it was great. Cheerfully greeted at the door. Shook hands with the owner. Was promptly seated and waited on. The entire staff was helpful. Was not rushed. We skipped the buffet because that would have been way to much food. The food was wonderful and prepared perfectly. Restrooms were clean. Just a wonderful place for American style breakfast.

my new favorite breakfast spot. service and food are great! --the only place i found so far that can cook perfect over medium eggs. --the hash-brown had a perfect brown crust, cooked through, and was not greasy. --chicken fried steak is outrageous! its the size of a whole fryer basket! tastes great too! can't wait to go back and try the pies.

  • Pat Z.

If you want perfect eggs, this is the place. Traditional breakfast of eggs, bacon, hash browns and biscuits. Bacon was terrific with a maple taste to it. I ordered my eggs over medium and they were cooked just right. Hard to get this cook sometimes, but these were excellent. Hash browns were crispy and seasoned well. Biscuits were kind of sad though---just out of the microwave and too hot to handle, very dry even with the butter. If you're a regular here, you get immediate service, but not so much if you're new to the place. After I stood on my chair and waved to the waitress, I did get some attention. So be prepared to wait for your perfect eggs.

What a wonderful experience. The staff is welcoming, the food is deliciously filling, and the atmosphere is homey and intimate. I enjoyed a selection of sides, which included the carne adovada and fry bread. Absolutely delicious. Sweet when it needed to be, spicy where it should be, and all around fantastic. Highly recommend!

i love diners, but i'm often disappointed by diner food, if that makes sense. not true with Vic's- excellent hash browns (crispy, but not super greasy), mashed potatoes from scratch, tender roast beef smothered in gravy. the breakfast menu is equally tempting- french toast topped w/pecans or blueberries, breakfast burritos, omelettes. service was quick, friendly, and accurate, which is all i can ask for. i didn't notice that much on the menu that was especially Greek (a souvlaki dish mentioned "Greek spices"), but i'm happy with the variety of sandwiches they have. only drawback is they're not open for dinner. can't wait to come back!

A diner in an industrial strip mall...who knew? The long and the short of it was delicious. The Vaquero is a combination of chicken fried steak and Juevos Rancheros. Excellent red chile! The only thing stopping a ***** rating is their service...though I will be ack for the food.

Service was great, very attentive staff. Had the brautwurst and sauerkraut. Mustard was made inhouse and had a nice zing to it. Finished off with a slice of peanut butter chocolate pie, just awesome!

They made me a ham and cheese grilled on a hoagie roll that was prertty damn good. Someone ordered a chicken fried steak and that thing is the size of a manhole cover.

I've courted their green chile sauce from restaurant to restaurant over the years, a timeless romance that began when we were two foolish teenagers rendezvousing at Andy's Restaurant. I forget what they call it on the menu (Vaqueros Breakfast, perhaps), but the huevos rancheros with the chicken fried steak, green chile, and hash browns keep the love alive.

    (4)
  • Matthew M.

Hands down one of the best breakfast / lunch places in town. The Huevos Rancheros are my go to breakfast at this place and the blue ribbon meat loaf for lunch should win awards. Plus the owner is usually working the room checking on everyone, which says a lot.

    (5)
  • Jim W.

Give us this day our Vic's Daily Cafe. If I lived or worked close by here I wouldn't be here daily. Monthly is probably more realistic. I found it to be a solid yet unremarkable diner type place. My huevos rancheros was tasty enough to bring me back but not close to the best I've had. Service was quick and pleasant.

One of my new favorite restaurants! Everything that I have tried so far has been absolutely fantastic! They have a huge variety including southern classics, New Mexican, Greek, and German. First off, the breakfast Vaqueros plate is amazing! The absolute best (and biggest) chicken fried steak I've ever had, smothered in delicious, mildly spicy red and green chile and melted cheese served on top of 2 eggs, hashbrowns, beans, and a tortilla. Expect to take some home with you. The chicken fried steak is also very delicious smothered in cream gravy with mashed potatoes and veggies. But the Vaqueros is still my favorite. Their fried catfish is also some of the best I've ever had! It is so light, moist and crispy. They have definitely mastered the cornmeal crust, and the homemade tarter sauce and coleslaw that come with it are equally delicious. I highly recommend this place! I can't wait to try everything on the menu!

  • Alan S.

I'm in here two or three times a month. The only knock I can give is that it can get pretty busy; at peak times you can expect a wait, especially if you're in a party of three or more. Highly recommended: Chicken-fried steak. Enormous and delicious. I like mine with brown gravy and they don't fuss to serve it that way. Meat loaf. Best I've ever had. Burrito or taco plate. Huge and yummy. Any daily special. Check the blackboard. Wife loves, but not my cup of tea: Chicken salad. Says it's the best she's ever had. Chef's salad. If I were into salads this would be my choice. Breakfast entrees. One of the reasons we like the place is I can get lunch while she's having breakfast. Really, everything on the menu is great. Nothing fancy, just tasty food in generous portions. If you can leave this place hungry there's something wrong with you.

  • Sandra N.

Diner style food, feels like a place that has many regulars. Coffee and a club sandwich is what I had. I actually found this place on yelp, needed somewhere close to eat. It's good for what it is.

  • Mekaiela R.

They were very unwilling to bend on make changes to the order and the lady was rude and overcharged us. They were stingy with straws and ignored our requests three times. The place was dirty and run down. Table was tiny and in the corner with no room for food or drinks.

    (1)
  • Kimmy V.

Location is deceiving, but food is pretty good. They make the Best Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie here, hands down! A vast selection of home made pies and danishes, warm and cold sandwiches and new Mexican dishes. Portion sizes are huge, and atmosphere is with friendly locals.

  • Bryan W.

The breakfast burritos are the best around! I eat here every time I visit ABQ. Good old fashioned service with a smile. Can't ask for more.

  • Sean E.

Vic's. What can I say, man? You practically were a daily excursion for 6 months or so there. I've devoured my fair share of breakfast burritos and there hasn't been a-one that comes within a mile of the Vic's #2. Smothered in some of the best green chile you'll find in town, it's a delicacy of epic proportions. One of the magical qualities of Vic's breakfast burrito is the bacon. It manages to stay crispy while surrounded by the egg, hash browns and every other tasty morsel of this scrumptious behemoth. What Vic's lacks in atmosphere, it more than makes up for in flavor and belt-busting portions. Aside from the BB, Vic's has superior coffee, a helluva chicken fried steak and really a dish for just about any of your breakfast needs. A lunch too for that matter. But honestly, with a breakfast burrito this good, why would you need anything else?

Had the home made corned beef & cabbage today. Yum!! Everything's always great at Vic's! And Vic is always wonderful to talk to! Thanks Vic!
