My parents took me here after learning of my love for brussels sprouts and reading in the Albuquerque magazine that the Stumbling Steer was rated in their Top 10 for their appetizers. When we first arrived, we were surprised by the size of the place on the inside. It would be a great place for a large gathering or a company party. Service started off a little slow. We waited a bit of a while to get drinks. But after actually getting our order in, everything picked up. The food came out really quickly. (Drinks though always took a long time to come...) The food though...definitely worth it! The brussels sprouts appetizer is the best thing ever. In the world. And I would eat it very single day if I lived in ABQ. I just....they are magical. The southwestern poutine is a great take on the dish! It helps that I like green chile.... For my meal I got the soup and sandwich....the B2LT and the green chile stew. The stew wasn't too terribly spicy, which was good for my midwestern-raised taste buds. The sandwich was alright, probably the weakest part of the meal, but certainly not bad. I also tasted my mother's green chile mac & cheese & prosciutto....rich and delicious. Good beer selection, good food, and good times. Go there! But make sure to leave some brussels sprouts for me!

Simply based on service, this place gets 3 stars. They are understaffed causing the waitstaff spends their time running and stressed which makes them forgetful. The food and beer is awesome, and would love to give it a higher rating. they offer a full bar and a wide selection of unique menu offerings.

I'm giving 4 stars because of the AMAZING beer selection. They not only brew their own beer, they also have guest beers on tap and a selection of bottled/canned beer as well PLUS a full bar. Dang...they are well stocked. The service was pretty good--I really have no complaints. Apparently my husband has gotten fairly friendly with Sonny who seems like a really nice guy (he's one of the owners and seems really passionate about his business--which is always nice to see.) Let me tell you about the French Onion Soup though...oh emmmm geeeeee! I am obsessed with that soup. It is so complex, delicious, warm and soul-soothing! To top off perfection, it's got seriously delicious provolone and swiss melty goodness layered over the top. Mmmm mmm mmmm! I seriously cannot say enough good things about that soup. The Grilled Cheese was meh. I should've known that being a grilled cheese purist, the bacon jam and tomato jam would just get in the way of my enjoying the sandwich...I don't need anything tainting my cheesy goodness-- but that's probably just me and I'd recommend it to anyone that isn't a grilled cheese minimalist like I am. The fries are amazing as well and come adorably presented in their own mini fryer basket, which I LOVE! The Southwestern Poutine sounds divine but I'm trying to save myself for those for when my best friend from Canada comes in for a visit! I'll definitely be back for the friendly service and amazing food! Defo recommend a visit!

Growing up on the Westside of town, I've always hoped for a place like this to open, so needless to say I was very pleased to hear that Stumbling Steer was coming to town! Upon entering, there is a rustic, yet cozy vibe you get. From the lighting to the wood paneled walls, no detail was left behind. I particularly enjoyed the cow skull lighting in the back and in the bar area-very cool! What used to be the old Quarters BBQ is now a newly remodeled and much more open restaurant and gastro pub. I cannot speak for the beers (unfortunately I haven't tried them yet), but the specialty cocktails I have had (the Black Widow), were very good! The bar tenders here are true mixologist and know what they're doing. On Sunday's they often have a specialty cocktail or Bloody Mary (bartender's concoction) that is unique yet satisfying to almost any palate. I've tried quite a few things on the menu, and my favs have to be the Brussel Spouts and the Steer Burger-- so good! After reading several of the other not so great comments about the quality of food, I must say I beg to differ. After speaking with the chef himself on opening night, he assured us that ALL of the food on the menu is prepared from scratch using high quality ingredients. NO FROZEN crap! The Steer is open late and serves up quality food and drinks, something that is so RARE anywhere on the Westside. Needless to say, I'm happy they opened and can only hope they're here to stay :)

I'm down grading my review. I was such a huge fan of this place in the beginning. Things have definitely changed here. You can count on the bartenders changing on a monthly basis for sure. I don't even recognize half of them. I've noticed that the patrons are starting to look a little different too. I like that they have local brew there and I also love the steak and fries, which is actually skirt steak and plantains. Oh, and its close to my house. ...but other than that it's lost its draw. I'd go after work for a beer but nothing more than that.

Location: this used to be the old quarters location. Looks like they dropped some coin in re-decorating. Very nice decor. Service: Monday afternoon , place was pretty well deserted. Sat at the bar and was quickly greeted by bartender. Ordered a flight as I wanted to try a few samples. Looked over menu and ordered a burger. Beer: was greatful i did not order a pint. Did not care for any style i ordered . Brown seemed watered down, Stout was okay. Other two were blah, can't remember which ones they were. Food: pricey burger showed up looking excellent. Ordered medium, was a little pink but very flavorful and juicy. Lettuce and tomato on the side just sat there. The burger would have been 8 inches thick if I had to open it up for condiments. After two bites was reduced to using a fork as bun was saturated and falling apart. I will return and update after that. Will try some different beers and perhaps a build your own burger

The Stumbling Steer is a nice addition to the constellation of craft breweries and restaurants in ABQ. So, The Stumbling Steer is just really getting started, but they have sure come a long way. Their facility is beautiful - lots of space, semi-industrial in decor, and a patio that will be really cool in the summer. Their beers are not made on premises, yet, but they are generally quite good. Okay, I'll be honest, their beers are not my favorite in Albuquerque. But they are quite good. I like a good, strong IPA, for example. The Steer's is a little more mild, with reasonable bittering, and a mild hop aroma. Not exactly the hop bomb I like, but more approachable for most folks, and that's okay. I wanted to try their double IPA, but alas, they were out. Make more!! I tried a few of their other beers and enjoyed them all, but again, nothing that stood out as really original. It kind of seems to me like they are trying to appeal to the masses, which is probably a good business practice in their location, but not my ideal. On the serious plus side, they do stock a variety of guest beers, some of which are pretty unique and awesome. The food at The Steer is very good. Think up-scale pub food. And I do mean up-scale. A grilled cheese with 4 types of cheese, bacon and tomatoes. Deep fried pork bites coated in a beer batter and served with powdered sugar (!) and a cream cheese foam. Wow. The food was all quite good and unique. The only drawback was the price. $10 for the grilled cheese is, well, a bit steep. Not outlandish, but it will likely keep me from eating at the Steer on anything more than a very occasional basis.

At first glance, The Stumbling Steer doesn't look all that impressive. Located in the old west side Quarters location, it's a little difficult to forget that Quarters had once been good but ended up being, well, "eh". I'm here to advise you: don't let your memory of Quarters sub-par BBQ deter you from stumbling into The Steer. The atmosphere here is good, albeit a bit "wide open", and for a brand new place the service is excellent (for now). As soon as we sat down we were approached by a co-owner, welcomed, and generally treated like VIPs. That was nice, but we're a hard sell. Tentatively, we waited for our food. The beer nerd husband had a beer sampler. He's picky, yet insists there wasn't a single bad brew in the bunch. That's saying a lot. Usually, he wrinkles his nose at least once or twice. The food came next: pork belly for him and meatballs for me. Two words here: my goodness. I guess I expected the food to be sub-par. After all, this place totes itself as a brewery first and foremost. But what left the kitchen and was placed before us was so not Albuquerque it was... well, it was magnificent. Both of us cleaned our plates, and because the food was so incredible, we splurged and got dessert just to see if it held up. It did. If you're looking for upscale food without the pretension, The Stumbling Steer is going to be your new go-to. The prices are slightly higher than average, but not by much, and the age old adage of "you get what you pay for" stands up here. It's unanimous. It's been a long time since we've had as good of a restaurant experience as we did at The Stumbling Steer. Bravo, dear owners. Our compliments to the brew master and chef!
(5)Eloy W.
When we walked in this place, it was realllllll busy! (based on the Ls I put on that there was an hour and a half wait.) Needless to say we found a spot at the bar to wait. And it turned out that it was only about half an hour to 40 minute wait. In the mean time before our meal we ordered the flight of brew to try there plethora of beers they have..A PLUS! We had some calamari which was ok, nothing too special, but the special part came in there customer service. The customer service hustled there way through a busy Saturday and made it much more enjoyable experience for everyone. Based on the beer they offered (just order a blind beer, you'll be happy.) I had to give 4 stars. Our dinner was great and we will be returning. :)
(4)B G.
i agree with all the poor reviews about the service. It's hit and miss. We've gone on a week night and had good service. On a weekend you should expect to wait. Never had to wait for a table though. And the bands that play... =/ BUT I love the food. The brussel sprouts are great. Steaks are small and the burgers are GOOD. Oh and majority of the appetizers are delicious. The drinks are strong and the beer is good. Huge parties love to come here and it suuuuuuuuuucks having to wait so your first time come on a weekday.
(4)Andy B.
We have been wanting to eat here for a while and finally got to try it out. Service was pretty woeful throughout the meal, we were often forgotten, had to chase up water refills and that we were ready to order. We shared the brussel sprouts and spinach dip for appetizers - the sprouts had a good flavor, but were kind of greasy; the dip had a good flavor and consistency, but could have been a lot warmer. For my main I ordered the green chile burger with sweet potato fries. The burger patty was cooked correctly (a rare skill in these parts); but the green chile was kind of like a jam - sweet and crunchy, kind of strange. The bun was good as was the bacon, but due to temperature the cheese had kind of set. My sweet potato fries were cold and overcooked so I go those swapped out. This place isn't that cheap and based on this experience I would not return.

Beer I would give it a 3 stars I didn't really like it. It was catered towards the crowd that likes hoppy beer and that is not me, so I didn't really like it. Their beer selection just seemed like every where else and I am just not a big fan. Food on the other hand was DELICIOUS. I am giving their Korean BBQ Ribs plus their Southwestern Poutine a 5 stars. So by that average I should give the place a 4 stars, however I am not really a fan per se. I like the atmosphere and the service is decent and the food is amazing, but I feel like its lacking something that I can't describe. I would come back for the food, but probably not my first choice for gathering with friends. So I am giving an A-OK, its one of those places that I would never choose to go to, unless I want to be at a place to watch sporting events, or someone else suggested that we go. It's will not be my first choice for a place to suggest to friends for hanging out.
(3)Alison C.
Way too expensive for what you get. $9 for four potato skins. That's not even real cheese! And The sweet potato fries weren't cooked.
(1)Melissa G.
If only judging the beer and food, it would have been 4 stars. Table service was TERRIBLE, our waiter truly didn't give a shit about us and couldn't be bothered. We went without drinks most of the time, even after asking for more. He brought us our tab, without asking if we wanted anything else, which we did. Ended up ordering more beer and food. So perhaps management isn't aware that their table servers are costing them revenue, IDK. Had the IPA, hubs had the Red, both were very good. We started with pork belly and mini corn dogs, super tasty. Cuban sandwich and beef dip were also decent, would order something else next time. Then a friend joined us and we got the Brussels, which were pretty amazing. It's too bad we were all out of beer and I had to track down our waiter. Otherwise we may have stayed longer. Service Fail.

I knew I'd be able to do this! Went in around the same time on a Sunday and was sat in the bar area at a table for 5 of us. The waitress greeted us promptly and later another gal came up to explain Sunday Funday which includes some yummy drink specials like Bacon Bloody Mary and a Bacon Manhattan. The fry basket now had a paper liner, there was no raw meat, cold fries or unfilled drinks, and everyone was very happy. I brought two if the previous crew back with us and we all felt redeemed. Great job guys. Keep up the great work!

Agree with all the reviews regarding the Service. This used to be my favorite place to go but somewhere along the way it declined. Used to see Owner walking around but don't see any Managers running the show which could be the reason for the decline and the sad thing is this happens with a small number of people in the restaurant.
(2)Diane W.
First time here, I wouldn't say holy cow I have to come back. I would say the staff was very friendly ,defiantly not a buzz kill. I had a couple of Bloody Mary's outstanding By the way. Didn't try the food but it did look Very good .

I wish yelp offered half stars because this place is 2.5 stars. I would really like this place to succeed but I don't know. Great atmosphere best on the west side awesome friendly owner group downfalls totally forgot our appetiZer (wings). The beer is bland but same level as turtle mountain. The hefferweizen tasted like bud light but it got better as it warmed. The soiled dove was very thick and boozy tasted like burnt sugar boring. I had the b2lt the pork belly was not crispy at all just chewy fat. The menu states thick cut bacon but really it's two pieces of thin small bacon. I saw a host put his thumb over a bowl and into someone's salad (gross) this place isn't exactly new but hopefully they can narrow in their area of expertise. Not in any hurry to go back but not off the list.

I've been coming here since it opened and I understand new businesses have growing pains, however, after my awful service last night I have decided to share my experiences. Disclaimer: I have only sat in the bar area. Typically before I order anything I have to ask for someone to wipe my area down. Every time to go to the bar area it's never clean. The menu changes every week. I ordered a stout and it was bitter and metallic tasting. Metal flavor comes from unprotected metals dissolving into the wort. The service I order my food. Then I continue to wait 40 minutes without our bartender/server ever checking up on myself or my guest. Not once to update us on the status of our meal, I would expect our sever to say "it'll be out in just moment we are backed up in the kitchen". I see about 7-8 servers and most of the time they are busy talking amongst themselves. Once she came to fill our waters I asked when our meal would be out and she ignored me. A manager finally brings out our food. Mine is cold, it's been siting underneath a heat lamp for a good 10mins. I want to complain but I don't get a 2 minute or bite checkin on my food. I am hungry so I eat it. Then after the food has been consumed then some one comes up to ask us how every thing is. I state "about what I expected." I tipped poorly, not because I am cheapo, but, as an expression of disdain of the lack of attentiveness of the server. You may wonder, where did the bar tender/waiter that took out order go? She obviously wasn't giving you nor your guest service. I watched her, I had plenty of time to do so. She bussed some tables, I understand there is such a thing as multitasking, however, from working in a restaurant I can tell you no one behind a bar should be bussing tables. If you have an esteemed position such as a bar tender, your top priority is tending the people at your bar. Let the bus-boys do their job. I think the issue here is management, they have a young staff and seem inexperienced, but the managers should guide them to become better servers. The division of labor is out of wack, no one seems to be sure of their role. Managers should break up the chit-chat. When a manager brings out your food it means that that waiter hasn't been paying attention to kitchen, so basic they manager is covering for the waiter. I've decided I will not return to stumbling steer until I see a sign that states 'new management'.
(1)Christina H.
Only 1 star! The BEER is GREAT!The service and food was horrible! The waitress only came over when we flagged her. The food is decent when it's not busy. But tonight was busy and it was terrible ! Went for the St Patrick's Day celebration and regret it! The calamari wasn't even calamari! Tasted like fish sticks! Will not eat there again anytime soon!
(1)Christina S.
If it hadn't been for very, very poor service I might have given this 5 stars for the food. The food was very good but we sat in a mostly empty restaurant (the new location in ABQ Westside) and waited a very long time for everything - appetizers, drinks, refills, to place our order, to get our order. When we finally got the bill we asked the server about the service and he just laughed it off. I'd like to return but I just don't have that kind of time to wait.

Whenever a new brewpub opens up in the ABQ, I feel an obligation to try it out. I also have an affinity for bovines, so this place was high on my list. The Stumbling Steer is a big open space. They've got a lot of TVs around the bar, so I can see this place as a pretty good spot for watching football, basketball, etc. Service was good, but a little scattered. It's a new business, and while we were served promptly there seemed a vibe of controlled chaos with the staff. There were a lot of people behind the bar, some of them barbacks, and others servers, and others just there. We had three servers, which was a little off the wall. Food was tasty. Not an overcomplicated menu, which is nice. One page. I liked the Southwestern poutine, as well as the crispy brussels sprouts (but there was a touch too much sauce on them). The stand out food I sampled was the chili cheeseburger on challa bread. Delicious. Again, service was an issue, as we ordered the two appetizers and they came out at the same time as the burger. On to drinks. The beer was not impressive. I'm a little bit of a beer snob, and in a city like ABQ with a lot of good brews, you've got a high bar. We tried all the beers, and I have to say the blonde was the most disappointing. The brown wasn't bad, but nothing really stood out to me. That being said, they had other folks' beers on tap, and I liked the sour beer on offer. Again, minor quirk, it wasn't on the menu. The bartender had to offer it to me. Places should list what's available if they want to move product, especially if the taps are all the way across the room against the wall and not within easy sight. I also had their carrot juice Bloody Mary, which was novel but not that good. Overall, I like this place. Nice vibe, and a wide selection of beers. Their cocktail menu looked nice, even though I didn't sample much of it. Service was attentive, and the food was pretty good. If I lived nearby I'd come back, but I wouldn't make a trek to come here.

Tentative as I am to try anything new, a friend convinced me to accompany her here, one of her favorites. Upon arrival we were welcomed from the outdoor patio by the sound of a little country group strumming away. I was disappointed that I didn't wear my cowboy boots and hat, thought I'd feel out of place. Later I learned that the music is often different, not just country. Whew! Disaster narrowly averted. I was skeptical entering the establishment; the high ceilings and the open and expansive dining room reminded me of a quickly thrown together rave from back in the day. You know the kind, find an empty warehouse, add some pretty lights and let the party start! The service was above par, tentative and friendly. I honestly can't give an in depth review on the service. The company I dined with was compelling and engrossing, as long as we received our drinks and food in a timely manner I was happy with the service. Being a Stumbling virgin I though it best to try something simple and a classic for New Mexico. I ordered the green chili cheese burger. Havarti cheese and lightly battered strips of green chili. For me this was a new take on an old standard. Cooked to my desired level of done-ness, the burger itself was tasty and served with a very tasty sauce. The fries, though nothing extra special, were really good and I ultimately ate more of them than I had planned on. As a complimenting drink I opted for one of their IPA's, very tasty and and subtle. I was thoroughly impressed with their drink selection and will be returning again to delve deeper into it, along with the modest food menu.

Have we stumbled into something great? Moooo! We have. Sorry for the obvious joke in the line above. Someone had to, so it's out of the way. Now for the news! If you like friendly staff and great brew in a big open venue, then you will enjoy Stumbling Steer. We needed to see what Luca Park and Min Lee had come up with and the soft opening was the perfect time to do it. We arrived at 5pm to a nearly full parking lot and a light but curious crowd. A friendly greeter ushered us in and we chose the bar seating. As it was still early, this was perfect for getting the scoop on drinks and menu options. You'll order your flight and look around at what $2 million in renovations buys you. I see a very similar map of what was the Quarters building, but with much nicer finishing. You'll see it in the hanging taps, the steer skull lighting and the stainless trough bathroom sinks. Oh, and the obvious - giant tank on the front roof. Make no mistake, this place is not your run-of-the-mill brewery. Instead it follows the increasingly popular gastropub trend. This means terrific options on the tap, but the food is nothing of the beer nuts, greasy burgers and hot wings variety. Instead you find options on the menu that may have you googling your options. It's sausage, pâtés and sauces. Even the usual items are a bit fancier and pricy. (à la your $10 grilled cheese) Some will welcome it and some will frown upon it. Whether it will succeed in Abq is to be decided. Our hunger only allowed for an sausage plate appetizer but we really enjoyed it. Folks around us opted for calamari, burgers and deep fried mozzarella. Presentation was good and the smallish burger size was the only detractor I heard. Some things are not debatable. The friendliness and will to succeed of Min Lee is one example. He spent a great deal of time with us explaining every aspect of this venture. He is passionate and loves this concept. Another is the skill attributed to master brewer Kirk Roberts. His American Scotch Ale won the GABF in 2012. (A small batch remains and I'm told will be shared here around Aug.) Kirk is laid back and friendly- a great guy. He's a fairly new California transplant, but has taken to our city well. He loves brewing almost as much as his wife's gumbo and our flights reflected that. Expect great things once all is up and running. The highlights for us were the smooth stouts and the chocolate & nut flavors that made the brown really stand out. They share Sierra Blanca's facilities for the time being but hope to have five or more brews going onsite within a few months. By the time we'd finished our appetizer and second flight, the place was packed. I was surprised to see so many people waiting patiently to be seated for a soft opening. (An even 'softer' opening happened the night before) When it got going it was loud, but fun. If this continues, Stumbling Steer will be a sure-footed success.

Oh, Stumbling Steer. We've tried to like you. Really! 4th visit. Food has slowly declined from okay to meh. Service, always slow, even on slow nights. Finally, so many breweries in Burque that, well, you have to really kick it and yours just falls flat - literally. Farewell.
(2)Jeff M.
Truth be told, I worry for the Stumbling Steer. Albuquerque is notorious for restaurants that start hot, long waits, and then suddenly, out of complacency, arrogance or because they are overwhelmed, quality drops off, and a year later - "FOR LEASE" To be honest, Stumbling Steer fits that bill. They were hot, and it was THE place, but the recent reviews are ba-a-a-ad. We went for dinner last night, and, except for the host staff, I am prepared to counter these reviews - it is alive and kicking. We called to see if they did call ahead seating or a reservation, and were told yes. After sitting on hold for about 5 minutes, we were then told reservations were for parties of 10 or more. By itself, no big deal, but, I think it is part of a larger problem with the host staff. We arrive, give our name, and are 20-25 minutes. No sweat - it's Friday night. So, about 20 minutes later, I see people ahead of us sitting down, and start to wonder (but we are a large party, so I also could understand why we were getting passed over). I go up and ask the host - lo and behold, our name is scratched out on a wadded up piece of paper. To make matters worse, she started looking for the returned pager, as if to prove me wrong. No worries - we can get sat in "just a minute." More minutes pass, and after 5 more, I go back to the front. Once again, our name is completely missing. Then, I get some sort of quasi-apology in a cross between slang and texting language. I almost went LOLZ - L8R. But, she got us sat, trash talking the other hostesses the whole way. #notcool. Truthfully, I probably would have viewed this as an omen, and walked out, but I was in a group, so I had to bite my tongue. Frankly, I am glad I did. The food was fantastic. I know, a green chile cheese burger is so middle of the road, but they do theirs with havarti, and onion straws, and it's really more like some sort of queso burger. I ate at 5-star Burgers earlier this week, and this burger BLEW its doors off. We all tried a little of each other's sandwiches and they were all good. Brussel sprouts - strange, but silly good. I will go back just for that. We were sat in the bar, which always makes it hard to evaluate service, since they are usually running around with too many tables, because people in the bar tend not to eat, so the server has less to do. But, our server was, overall, pretty good. She was a little late on drink refills once. But, she had a great personality, she was very patient, and took care of every need right away. And, NO MISTAKES. Truth be told, I have never been a fan of their beers. I have stopped in a couple times, and tried just their beers, and I find them to be towards the bottom of the scale, as far as ABQ Brewers go. But, I tried a Pale Ale last night, and it was pretty good. I did not get around to trying their signature drinks, but I will be back - they looked interesting, and reasonably priced. It's a weird concept how they have such a limited wine list, and this ridiculous beer list, but it seems to work for them. Frankly, I will not pay $25/beer, but I am sure there are people that will. Overall, I would almost rate them 5 stars. Based on their previous reviews, their host staff seems to be a disaster. Last night was no different for me, but fortunately, I rode it out, and was rewarded for my patience.

I finally got around to trying the Stumbling Steer and as everyone has stated this place gets packed so be prepared to wait. The restaurant inside is really nice and still has the modern/rustic look that Quarters used to have except its feels a lot more open. The beer list was pretty awesome I liked the fact that this place has many specialty craft beers from other breweries on tap along with there beers. I tried there Red, IPA,Imperial IPA and Imperial Stout. The odd thing was the Red and the IPA almost tasted the same which I thought was odd. But their Imperial IPA on the other hand is one of my favorites and my go to beer lately. As for the food there menu is small and it is constantly being updated with new items and also items being removed from the menu. But overall you cant go wrong with their burgers here they are always amazing every time. They also have some killer Korean ribs and their salads are also really good. Stumbling steer also has a great patio section which is always has bands out playing on the weekends which gives it more of that brewery feel. But overall Stumbling Steer is definitely my favorite spot to go on the West Side for food and drinks.

My mom went to this restaurant with friends and insisted that we try it out as a family! The building was awesome! As soon as I saw it I knew I was in for a treat! I ordered the Caprese Grilled Cheese. It was very good! The description said fresh mozzarella, basil, and tomato on rye bread. I got all the ingredients plus cheddar which I was not expecting! It tasted good I liked but some people might think it's too much with too much cheese but I liked it. I ordered iced tea and my sister didn't but she still got it, oh well. We ordered dessert and it was PERFECT!! We got Toffee Bread Pudding and a brownie sundae! DELICIOUS!! I would highly recommend this restaurant! (Good for family)!

Went last night for dinner. I read a review from a trusted yelper, and decided to chance it anyway. (Btw, gastropub? Anyone ever hungry in a British pub would laugh at that idea. Pub food is bland. Not meant to excite, just to stop you from leaving to eat, elsewhere) First impression, beautifully designed space. The lighting, the open space, the sound control... All work very well to accommodate a large crowd. Gotta say, the chairs are CRAZY heavy. Service was very quick. The house salad is pretty and tasty, good variety of greens and purples. Calamari was tasty, but a little squishy. I had the rib eye with sauteed spinach and a baked potato. Steak was perfectly cooked. Spinach was yummy. I dont think that is actually a baked potato, though. Maybe microwaved. Shame. Our server was knowledgeable about the brewing process. My boyfriend owned a successful brewery and he was impressed. Shelby. She likes working there. It shows. Finally, i would say, give this place a second look. They are trying. And it shows. Five stars for effort.

Came back to try the green chile cheeseburger. Definitely worth it! The burger was on a sweet butter bun with flavorfull roasted green chile and savory bacon. The flavor combination was terriffic! I replaced the jack cheese that comes on the burger with the white cheddar that comes on another dish and it was fantastic! The beer was pretty good this time around too, we tried the Imperial Stout (again), the Red (again) and a new one, the Black IPA. The Black IPA was pretty good, and obviously dry hopped with that fresh hop aroma. I got the last glass of the IPA, so good luck finding it again! Unfortunately, I was too late to try the Randal Stout with coffee, that sounds delicious too and would have made for a great after dinner beer. Next time - Sausage Plate!

I've been anxiously awaiting a try here. Tonight was the night! The interior is really quite nice, I had never been to the Quarters on this side of town so I cannot even compare. I like the big windows, the openness, the look of the bar area. Decorations fit nicely with the gastropub style. The chairs are a bit noisy. We were greeted by friendly hostesses and promptly attended to by a smiling waitress. We ordered an appetizer and a salad, my husband got a Guiness in celebration of St Patricks day, I ordered a flight : Blonde, pale ale, brown and Imperial Stout. The Brussels sprouts were Fabulous ! I will come back for those again! The salad was fresh. A Guiness is - well a Guiness. My flight was good. At first I really liked the Stout, but it grew heavy of coffee tones ( and I am an ancient coffee lover been drinking coffee since I was 18 months old). In the end I really loved the Blonde and I don't typically stray that way. It was light, refreshing. For main course I had the steak and fries; my husband had the beer can chicken . Both were so, so, certainly not bad but not outstanding. Mine was served with fries...really good fries! My husbands came with Mac n cheese ; it was bland. Also, it was served in an iron dish and you could taste the iron skillet. We should have stopped there but we didn't. We ordered the Strawberry (red velvet cake cobbler ) it was weird. It tasted like the iron skillet it came in. I tried to like it, but even the cream cheese ice cream was cloying sweet. I think this place has promise. I like the Asian fused flavors ( seemed present in everything ) I liked that about it. So my recommendations : do something about the iron skillet taste ( definitely coming from the cookware), don't use the wood blocks for serving steak ( it kind of gave me the creeps) ; keep the Asian fusion flavors; don't change anything about the Brussels sprouts; your crafted brews are GREAT! We will come back to try some other entrees and see this place grow !

I have no idea how this place has bad reviews. I went for lunch about two weeks ago and had a fantastic time. The service was quick and rather great. The drinks were served in minutes. The Southwestern poutine is fantastic. I will go back for that again and again. Spicy, cheesy and delicious. A total win. My sandwich was great. The coleslaw was delicious. My friend's pasta was amazing. I do not have a single complaint about this place.

The menu offers little. What they do offer doesn't taste very good. The location is very loud. We ended up having just appetizers. Nothing special. Service was attentive and pleasant.

As always, my wife and I were looking to try something new. Our first food experience at The Stumbling Steer was mediocre at best. I had the pulled pork sandwich which was slightly above warm. It was excruciatingly bland and flavorless aside from the BBQ sauce and the coleslaw was also without flavor. Salt wasn't fixing it and I would have been better satisfied trying to lick the wind like a dog with its head outside the window of a fast moving car. I imagine it was have the same taste as the food on that day. On this occasion, the only thing good about the service was the beer. The waitress acted like she didn't want to be there and refused to even crack a smile. In fact, after looking around at all the floor staff, the only one with a smile was the female bartender and a worker who kept going behind the bar to sample the beer (go figure). If you have to drink on the job to smile, something bigger is wrong. I'd also like to mention that NM law prohibits excessive "taste testing". We did, however, decide to give it another shot as a place to grab a quick bite and found it to be slightly better. I ordered the same exact meal and it was warmer but still not hot. Beer was just as good as the first time and the pulled pork and coleslaw had slightly more flavor but still not great. Our waitress this time had a smile but did come off as a bit air-headed. The only thing consistent in this establishment was the lack of hot food, good beer, and the heavy set worker who kept going behind the bar to sample the beer (over and over again), and the same happy-go-lucky female bartender. I am apparently a glutton for punishment but we will try it again in hopes of actually getting hot food with flavor, another cold beer, and hopefully a server who actually acts like she likes her job. There are few things worse than a server who spoils your experience with his/her lack of interest in working there.
(2)Daniel B.
The ambiance was good and staff is friendly, but the music was to loud and a bit over bearing. The food was ok. The fries were cold and a bid soggy and the burger although it flavorful was not how I ordered. The patty was generous but not made to order... It was clearly pre-made. Wendy's makes a better juicer burger.. For the money I'd say it wasn't worth it...

Was visiting from San Diego. This place has it going on. Beers on tap are amazing. Food was definitely on point. You have to try the buzzin bull cocktail, wow what an amazing drink. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. The Randle beer was very tasty as well. Next time I'm in town, this will be my first stop.
(5)Dan J.
I have to say I'm confused by the poor reviews about the food. The atmosphere is interesting with a raucous bar open to an upscale dining area. It can be loud but I wasn't put out by that. Now the food. The menu really is all over the place. That's the idea of a gastropub. The brat was very well done with a flavorful onion compote and kraut. The chicken and waffle had a skin that was so perfect I can't imagine one better. The waffle was reminiscent of a funnel cake flavor, crispy and fluffy. An appetizer of pork belly and powdered sugar sounded absolutely odd, but I'm glad we tried them because the combination was amazing. Overall super service from our waiter, innovative flavorful food, and a modern clean design.

The space is enormous and loud. The service was spotty and slow; ordered two apps, one was delivered wrong. By the time the server came around to check, the entrees arrived. At the end of the meal the other app we did order arrived. When the check came we were charged for all of it, even the app we didn't order. None of the food items ordered from the menu were well conceived or executed. The pork bites, poutine and brussell sprouts were all lacking in flavor. The fish and chips was enormous but the fillets were tough and chewy. The Cuban sandwich was small and sparsely filled. All in all disappointing. Tried tasters of six house beers. All were passable but nothing stood out. To sell me a $7 guest beer the server suggested I leave my seat and walk to where I could see the chalk board at one end of the bar. Lame. They need to get some focus in the kitchen quickly and take a chance with a couple of their taps. Servers should know and be able to talk about the beers. It IS a brewery after all. There is too much competition around for them to stay in business very long with this offering. I wish them the best.

I have been wanting to go to The Stumbling Steer since it opened (even if I think the name is kind of dumb) I heard good things about it and it was always packed. My husband finally took me for their beer and brunch this Saturday for beer week and it was worth the wait. Their menu wasn't the normal one but the options were all good. I had their chicken sandwich with pickled onions and one of their cask beers. I really enjoyed my meal and the rest of the family did also. I think they have the best kids mac and cheese I've tried. I deducted a star because our waitress was kind of slow even though the place wasn't busy but other than that it was a good visit.
(4)Shanell A.
We walked in and the hostesses were having their own conversation, once they realized they were working they told us we could sit anywhere although the sign said "please wait to be seated." We took our seats and a hostess gave us our menus and said "give him some time he's busy tonight and i just gave have 2 more tables" so we waited & waited for about 20 mins with no drinks & no service. We got up and left and the hostess was drawing a picture and didn't even look up at us. Won't be back here again.

If I could do a zero star I would this place blows. Terrible service prices to high not going back
(1)Juan C.
The food was eh. I got some burger that was frozen and then cooked. The tasted like it had been left out. Service was ok, but you could tell that they didn't believe in the restaurant. It was a waste of money.

To say that the Westside is utterly lacking in high quality restaurants with character would be an UNDERSTATEMENT. That said, the recently opened Stumbling Steer has changed that! I have eaten as this restaurant multiple times now and it has all the ingredients of a great restaurant/meet-and-greet place: great food, full bar, freshly brewed beer, fantastic service, and an atmosphere to match. The Steer renovated the space previously inhabited by the BBQ joint Quarters which closed last year, but there is really no comparison (I was never a fan of Quarters' food). They gutted out the restaurant, tore down the separate enclosed bar area and replaced it with a fresh open atmosphere, bustling with exciting conversation and happy customers (every time I've come here, its packed!). The adjoining liquor store is currently being renovated to house the restaurant's brewery. I love their bar selection and they have a good happy hour from 230-5 daily. They have a large selection of beer, including their own. And I enjoy their speciality cocktails, especially Two Gingers (I am always a fan of ginger beer!). We've had a fair sampling of their appetizers. I highly suggest the Albuquerque Dirty Chips--don't let the chorizo and fried chicken liver throw you off, THESE ARE DELICIOUS. The Brussels Sprouts are equally delicious. Was not a fan of the Warm Pretzel (too much bread, not enough flavor) or the Olympic Charcuterie Plate. We decided to sample the latter by doing a choice of one meat. It was the smallest sliver of meat I have ever seen, surround by a ton of appetizing garnish. Not quiet sure what the point is of such a small serving so I would suggest trying the larger offerings of 3 or 5 meats. For dinner, we really like their burgers, especially the Steer Burger. Also the Belgian White Pork Chop, Braised Pork Belly and Korean Style Ribs are good. My only complaint is that they do not offer enough "Light" options. They have a very small offering of basic salads and no fish (the Fish and Chips do not count obviously). I highly suggest that they add some other options on the menu for the calorie conscious.

Well, hit this place the other night with a buddy. We both elected to not wanting to try the other brewery in the area - not to name names but let's just say it rhymes with "hair"... Anyway, it was decent. The menu was pretty solid in the selection department. I went with the fish and chips. Now, having grown up in the Midwest where fish and chips are a national holiday every Friday (started by the all the Catholics for Lent), I can be a bit hyper critical. That said, they were pretty decent. A little heavy on the batter but still good. I just happen to prefer the batter a tad bit thinner and crunchy verses thicker and cake-y. Again, not bad. My buddy had the steak and aside from the sauce they buried it in, it was cooked perfectly and tasted good. Our service however was very slow - not sure why, it was late and the place was about 20% full. Either way, I'd go back and try some thing else. Our server was very nice/friendly but just slow. Weird. Still searching for good fish and chips in ABQ. Open to suggestions.

We came here on a Sunday afternoon to watch some football and I don't think we'll be back any time soon. Our server took their time asking if we wanted anything to drink- so much time we had to walk up to the bar for a drink. The music they played included slow ballads- perfect for the gridiron. The food was ok when we got it and before we were done (we were planning on ordering more) someone came up to us with the check and asked us to check out because it was time for their shift-change. As all of us work in the food industry, we've all had to wait for people to leave before we can go home- their way of handling it was completely unprofessional. I'll be hoping to stumble across better service somewhere else.

We went for early dinner on a Sunday (yes,it is open on Sundays) and the place was pretty busy. But we got a table right away and our waitress Anna promptly took our drink order. The drinks and the food (we ordered burgers) arrived in a timely manner and it was delicious. High quality products with an amazing taste, the meat was cooked to perfection and very juicy. The service was good, we got our waters refilled and were asked how our food was etc. I gotta say I also loved the interior, a rustic industrial style that went well with the style of food and drinks they're offering. We'll be back for sure!
(5)Cody L.
Until they solve the menu debacle I can't, in good conscience, give them any more stars. For a restaurant that has hour and a half waits during dinner and 45 minute waits during lunch. I thought coming between those times would be best. Unfortunately this is when they have decided to eliminate any food choices. You are forced to only choose from three meal choices! Really?! From 2:30 to 5:00 does the kitchen staff just up and leave?! This is ridiculous. i haven't given up hope for this location but I fear if this is not changed by management they will suffer from sales. so if you're going for lunch or dinner enjoy the loud music and rustic wood seating while you wait for at least an hour and if you go at any other time enjoy not being able to try anything other than a burger... Bad management choice. Get rid of the weird midday menu and maybe I'll consider being able to try other food.

Came here for dinner a few weeks ago and had the longest wait. There were 15 of us but we called.ahead to reserve a table and still had about a half hour wait. The service was horrible, the waitress took drink orders for only half the table and the rest of us were left to fend for ourselves. Eventually we got our drink orders in. I had a martini and it tasted like all vodka and wasn't even filed to the top in a tiny martini glass, so disappointing. As for the food, I had the beer can chicken which was actually really good. The mixture of the lime sauce gave it a good kick. I also had a salad.which was a good portion and very fresh along with some super tasty fries, could not stop eating them. I like the ambience but not.sure I will be back soon as it is very busy and poor service. I also had a plate spilled on my head so I was not a happy camper.

Okay, the food I had at The Steer was underwhelming. We had pickle spears, wings, then split half rack of Korean ribs. Flavor wise - the kimchi coleslaw was kind of awesome, the ribs were decent. Other food average. We also got a flight each to try all their brews. La Cumbre is still my fav, but I thought the IPAish beers were decent here. I think this is a great joint to bring company and relax. They have food on site, they have games out back which is great to see, and the beer is decent. It also has a full bar and bottles. And, I have to say - our server was great, she was easygoing and spot on time wise. Overall, I recommend for a night with your buddies or a double date. Just kick back and chill while the sun goes down over the mountains, drink some brews, have some snacks, and beat your buddies at bean bags.

I've been to the Stumbling Steer three times now. The first to try their beer, the bartender spilled a sampler all over my lap. The second time featured poor service, decent burgers and ok beer. The third included a cold burger from a completely re-worked menu coupled with two mediocre beers and atrocious service. Overall, not an impressive place. They seem to have a lot of staff but can't handle the crowd. This last time I think we met the manager but he was plan-clothed and very timid. That could explain a lot. Or Maybe it was just some random dude wanting to know how we were? Can't recommend. There's better beer in the neighborhood.

Went for lunch today. Arrived around 1:30 and it was busy but we didn't have to wait. First, the beers-solid, but certainly not the best Albuquerque has to offer, the IPA could have been hoppier and the red was mostly unremarkable. The sour my hubby had was excellent- from Belgium and my selection of the cask aged imperial stout was very good. We sat at the bar and had great service. Okay, now for the food. We split a green chili cheeseburger- very tasty with good beef, properly cooked with a nice amount of toppings. We also shared the poutine which was great. It was a lot of food, but we somehow managed to finish both. We topped it off by sharing the sticky toffee pudding. It was amazing, needless to say, we left VERY full- in fact no dinner necessary tonight after such a big lunch. Definitely, will be back.
(5)Donald B.
Talk about a real awesome restaurant! The food by Chef T is a welcome site to the culinary landscape in Albuquerque. The Brussels Sprout appetizer was caramelized to perfection and the tamarind gave it a wicked edge. The burgers are huge and mine was cooked perfectly! That is very hard to find in this town, a burger cooked exactly how you ordered it. My date had the grilled cheese with bacon jam and it was packed with layers upon layers of cheese. Overall an awesome date night!
(5)Anthony G.
After being sat near the bar area and waiting for someone to serve us for over twenty minutes we decided that the stumbling steer obviously was not a restaurant based on friendly costumer service. The restaurant was not busy nor did they apologize when we said we hadnt gotten service they just simply let a good amount of money and tip walk out of the door. Dont go there if you expect good service or class.

Poor. We stopped at Stumbling Steer yesterday/Sunday for lunch. We sat in the patio, that was loud like a dog park. Four of the five tables had dogs barking (loud) at each other. The Bloody Marys were too sour and bitter. The caprese cheese sandwich had unmelted cheese and little to no tomatoes. Until changes are made to patio ambiance and food preparations we do not recommend this restaurant. Thanks for reading. The Bike Chaplain

We were so excited to try this place. The atmosphere is fantastic. I ordered the calamari appetizer...delicious! My husband ordered the sausage board...good but not the expense. Regrettably, I ordered the Korean ribs. They were extremely hot! I can handle heat but this was almost unbearable. I really wished the menu and server would have mentioned this important bit of information. Yes, Korean food is normally on the spicy side but this was over the top. Needless to say, this left me with a bad impression along with the fact that mist items are extremely overpriced. We may give it another try---happy hour...maybe.
(3)Ray G.
Don't kid yourself this place has major restaurant problems. Read between the lines or every other post about poor food and service. The first time I tried this place I was disappointed and swore I wouldn't return. However because it was their grand opening I decided to give a second chance. Second visit was disastrous, I ordered what I thought they couldn't mess up "a simple cheese burger". The burger was extremely salty. I gave feedback to one of the owners (blond woman) and her actions showed she didn't care. Stumbling Steer should stop selling food and stick to only beer. If they don't start listening to feedback from customers they won't last.
(1)Corinne G.
Stumbling Steer has officially stumbled off our list. The last four times we have gone there we didn't get waited on for at least 10 minutes after getting seated. We just walked out the door after getting served a warm beer and not asked about our order of once again. On top of that the food that once amazing has been pitiful the last four visits also. Sad.
(1)Lauren G.
Tried to have dinner here, we were told it would be a twenty minute wait, after half an hour asked when we might be seated and were told the kitchen was on hold. After being seated the waiter took our drink order, we did not see him for ten minutes. He then took a drink order for a table who was sat after us and immediately brought their drinks. We were never served drinks and ended up leaving.
(1)Dianna A.
We enjoyed appetizers, a flight of beer and the imperial stout for lunch. The food and beer were very good. We recommend the Brussels sprouts, pork belly bites and pot stickers. The service was good.
(4)Allan S.
I've been here three times now. The first time on the recommendation of a friend and the other two times because I really, truly, wanted to like this place. But I just can't. The food, while looking interesting on the menu, never lived up to the their written potential. Whoever designed the menu had some intriguing ideas but whoever is executing it is, well, killing it. In a bad way. Grease should not be a flavor. The beer ranges from weak to decent with nothing really being a standout success. If the food were better this would be a decent place to toss a few back at. Except for one thing : The service has never been stellar and on one of my visits was downright awful. Maybe the server was having a bad day but in a nearly empty building, she was slow to take our order, slow to deliver the food, we never got a refill or any attention after the delivery and she was slow to deliver the check.... which was a shame because after this experience we were in a hurry to leave.
(2)Chad M.
Average food, with "some" decent beer. Food is extremely overpriced, and menu is limited.
(3)Michele B.
I give The Stumbling Steer 4 stars because we met one of the owners Sonny and he was pretty cool. My $24 steak was ok. I didn't care for the sauce but loved the ginger lemon sauce from my daughters $22 chicken. Pricey food. Our drinks were pretty awesome. My husband had beer that was brewed by stumbling steer but not currently brewed at the restaurant. I had The Black Widow!! Yummers. So tasty. Will go back for bar and patio maybe apps but not so much entrees. Yay fun to try new places. Hope you do well Sonny!
(4)Drew M.
Open seating, great service and good food. Perfect for middle of the week dinner w/the kids or a night out with a group.
(3)Mercedez F.
Had a fun night out with a few girlfriends. Food was great and so were the drinks and dessert. The ribs were amazing and a good kind of spicy. Chicken was great too with an interesting ginger sauce that had a kick to it. Desserts were good size and sharable. We had the Elvis which satisfied the chocolate craving and the banana ice cream was yummy! Red velvet cobbler was good too if you like the hot desserts with ice cream on top!. Will definitely go back but for a special occasions as it is a little on the pricey side.
(4)Michael P.
The Stumbling Steer is a rather interesting restaurant to say the least. If you are looking for food without drinking I don't recommend going here. If you are going to have a drink this is a good place to go because the menu is basically all bar food. I had the wings because I am a chicken wing connoisseur of sorts and I was not all that impressed. The wings are unsauced but flavored and it does not have much kick or flavor.
(3)Rob S.
Very good food. Had the Steak that was delicious. The menu isn't overwhelming and if anything, could use more options. But there were several meals that caught my eye. The drink menu was great. Wide variety of choices. Unfortunately, they were out of my wife's first two beer choices. I also had the southwest poutine which was different, but good. I am used to the Montreal style poutine with straight fries, cheese curds and gravy. But the southwest style didn't let me down. Yelp gives the price two symbols, but after spending $80 for two, I'd say its 3 and a half symbols.
(4)Amanda O.
Finally a fun place on the west side! My husband says "The Ellison" is the best sandwich he has ever had. We've also had the Cuban, which was really tasty and the caprese grilled cheese, which was average. The bartenders are great and the service is outstanding!
(4)Jocelyn B.
Fancy chef makes bland overpriced food. Really disappointing and boring pretentious dishes. The descriptions promise wonderful flavor and exciting tastes and does not at all deliver. The beer list is definitely worth coming back for, but grab a bite beforehand.
(2)Stephanie R.
LOVE the new menu! I have been twice in the last couple of weeks, for lunch, and had a Cuban and French Dip and they were both yummy! Going back to have some "refreshments" soon and will post again.

My husband and I recently decided to visit on a Saturday night. We were a little hesitant, based on the reviews of poor service, but we decided to give it a try. The ambiance of the place is nice, but much more suitable to a casual family gathering, rather than a nice date. The lights were just a little too bright. I'm happy to report that our service was excellent, even though our server was taking care of a party of 12 in addition to us and some other tables. He took our drink orders right away, and we had the drinks in short order. My husband had their wheat beer and I had a glass of wine. They were both good. We ordered the brussels sprouts for an appetizer, and they were really delicious. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw for my entree, and my husband ordered the steak with plantains. My meal was delicious, and the sandwich was large enough that I saved half for lunch the next day. My husband said his meal was also very good, but they had run out of plantains. The server did not let him know of this until his meal arrived with fries and my husband asked about the plantains. He had made his decision about what to have based on the comments about the excellent plantains, so he was disappointed, and we felt that the server should have returned to our table after it became evident that the meal was going to have a substitution to see if that was ok. It was still a nice evening, with good food and excellent service.

This place seemed promising, I heard many good things about it when it first opened up, but I was a bit disappointed. I liked the atmosphere, the lighting is kind of dim and it looks like a place that would be called "stumbling steer." We were seated next to a rather large group with a few rambunctious kids. I don't mind kids, but these ones running around the place and I wouldn't pin this as a place suitable for kids. I wasn't impressed with the food. The wait time for the entrees wasn't bad, but the food was almost cold; it wasn't warm whatsoever. The food looked great, but the taste wasn't anything great, and there wasn't much of it. The beer was pretty good, so maybe if I filled up on more of that I wouldn't complain as much about the food! Maybe you won't be as disappointed if you go there with lower expectations. The staff was very nice and I've heard they're very accommodating, but I was too hungry to ask them to fix up my food. I might try this place again later.
(3)Vincent E.
Great layout, the decor is very pro. Food and drinks are on point... Try the buzzing bull, something different... More importantly the service is impeccable truly makes someone comfortable and taken care of. Must visit. Try the brussel sprouts. The Double IPA is a game-changer.
(5)Sarah O.
Tried the beer flight and chose the brown although the stout was good. The item I ordered originally was out but the ribs were outstanding. The service was really good.

This place sucks! I'm visiting my parents from New York and my brother was here with his wife and 2 daughters. Most of us are industry people or work in some kind of customer service feild, so we are generally more understanding than most. I will also preface that as soon as we walked into the restaurant one of my neices started to feel a little icky. That should've been our first red flag, and a totally empty restaurant but a 30min wait. In nyc, I would leave and go somewhere else but we were really there because we saw an awesome review on movoto 15 Abq restaurants will blow your taste buds, more like blow chunks. My poor niece was just so sick and we just should've left, our fault yes. However, the chicken and waffels was definitely from the frozen section of Jetro. My mussels were so under cooked most of them didn't break open. The beer was decent tho. If you are thinking of going here reconsider. They are totally under staffed and move at a glacier pace. Bad service, bad food, sorry about the vomit but it shouldn't take your entire staff to clean it up while we are waiting for our check.

Went on a Saturday around 2:15 pm and there was plenty of room to sit. Was seated right away and gave drink order. Started with the crispy Brussels sprout and they were delicious! I had the B2LA and the wife had the House Grilled Cheese. Both were outstanding. The shoestring fries were excellent as well. Nice big place, clean and you could have a nice conversation without having to raise your voice. Service was great as well.

I'm struggling a bit for how to rate this place. There were a lot of things i liked, a lot of potential, and a lot of things that don't make it memorable. Since it's a brewery, let me start with the beer. Being that it was a warm afternoon, I was feeling like a blonde or a wheat beer. Both of the house ones were seriously underwhelming and not only tasted like a Bud/Coors/Miller Lite but looked like it too. Both were hardly distinguishable as a wheat or blonde and more akin to a light pilsner. Bleh- also had a distinctly watery taste. The double IPA though wasn't bad and at 10%, it packs a bit of a punch. I tried a taste of the stout as well- not bad at all. All in all though, the beers weren't very memorable. The selections of the other NM local brews were way better (Le Cumbre Project Dank, Santa Fe Black IPA, etc. etc. etc. with the exception of Turtle Mountain but look at my review to see what I think of that place). The atmosphere was very brewery like (which I find awesome) and they had a killer patio. While I used to know the location as the Quarters on the Westside, they did a good job of making it look a bit different (and the bathrooms are super cool and swanky looking!). Now the food. It was around 1230 or 1 on a Saturday and we were given the "Beer Breakfast menu." We almost left because this was the only menu with about 5 items on it- a chicken sandwich, 2 types of burgers, and a couple other things. We opted to stay and I'm glad we did. My green chili burger was awesome, cooked perfectly, and the fries were super tasty. This is one of the best burgers I've had in a LONG time- I don't know what they did with the mustard and other stuff but it was unique and freaking good. It really was a bummer though that the menu was so limited at a time of day I would think they should have more selection. I probably shouldn't say it, but the food outshined the beer in every aspect. The service was meh. I think if our waitress smiled her face would have cracked. The place wasn't all that busy but it seemed like everything from water to the check took forever or at least having to ask several times. Other tables that were sat 15 minutes after us were done and gone at least 15-20 minutes before we even got our check. I might go back if I were on that side of town but I don't think I'd make a special trip for it. I'd definitely be curious to see what the other menus had on them and any rotating brews they may have.

My wife and I really enjoyed our lunch. Had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. WOW! Awesome

If I'm waiting for 10 min for a server to offer me a glass of water and I look around and see 4 of them just chatting with the manager, that my sign to go spend my money somewhere else. The quality of food went downhill. Not sure what to order anymore without being disappointed. A simple burger could be at least juicy and flavorful... Nope not here.. The service is lacking. We sat at the bar, but the bartenders are so rude and need plenty more training. I was one of the many people so happy to finally have a nice bar close to this location, but I could put up with everything but a bad service. I'm so sad and disappointed in the way the managers are running this place.

Food was ok, nothing spectacular but still ok. The reason for a 1 star is the very poor service which had to do with 3 servers not showing up. The owner didn't come around to us till the check came and said if you need anything let me know... Ummmmm a bit too late bud! I do t see this place lasting due to the poor management.

The Stumbling Steer felt just like a stumbling experience. To be fair, I went on a very busy Saturday night but when you told that the wait is 20-30 minutes and wait over an hour it starts off shaking. The servers seem to have to take on a lot tables, service was super slow but the food was decent. I was never provided with a refill nor asked how service was. Maybe next time but this experience was Meh at best

Really like the updated menu, and prefer to sit in the bar area. The beer continues to shine. The ribs are fantastic!

Hubby and I decided to come in for lunch. They didn't have lunch specials or prices which was a let down. Wasn't too packed, nearly empty for such a big place actually. Hubby ordered the chili brat, which I personally feel was not a braut but a really big hit dog, and if that's your definition of one that's great, mine is a litter more German. But for 8 dollars it was worth it to him. I ordered the turkey sandwhich and my sweet potato fries were awesome but my sandwhich was puny. Not quite a sub more like if a sub was cut longwise. That was 11 and not that bad but I would probably not order it or even go there again. Meh.

My girlfriend and I were so stoked to hear about a new brewery in our neighborhood! She had a humongous lunch burger and I had a Rueben! They were both amazing! We started with the calamari appetizer (they serve it with the squid ink which is siiiick) and it went well with the beer sampler that we ordered! The beer was nothing epic but I still liked the quality of the blonde and the balance of the Pales! I HAVE to go back to dinner....there's a picture of the pork belly dish from another Yelper and I have to try it!!

Went here for lunch while visiting family. Had the green chile cheeseburger. It was really good. Giving it two thumbs up. Was with a group in age range from 40 - 70. Every one said there food was really good. Service was really good. Stephen are waiter was on top of are drinks and checked back often to see how we were doing. Met with and talk to the owner. Really nice guy from San Diego. He really knew about what good beer is. Tried 5 out of the 6 beers the had to offer. Everyone was really good. Which I'm usually a really tough critic coming from the beer Capitol of the USA San Diego. Will definitely be back when in ABQ.

I've come to the Steer several times now. In the beginning their menu was filled with great foods at an above regular price. I've had several of their selections (Hamburger's, Ribs, Apps...) and all have met or exceeded my expectations. Their updated and new menu has many additions at a reasonable price and they are just as good in the flavor as the original selections. Now, with their addition of live music on the patio and games they are growing a flowing of regulars quickly, and passing other Pubs just as quickly. WELL DONE Stumbling Steer, we're looking forward to what you have in store for the furture and welcome to the area!!

This place was amazing!! I beyond love the food... I went there for the soft opening for FB fans and yes of course I waited a bit for my food, but hey it was the FIRST DAY of business so im pretty sure that would be normal especially when they were beyond packed. Im a realist people and that's how the story goes. I have been waiting for this place to open for such a long time, so i would wait an extra few minutes for my food. Just sayin And btw I have gone back and that small wait people have been complaining about is dismal now that theu have been open for more than just a couple of days. My food was epic... I had the calamari for starters, the sauces came out really good. The only thing was that it did not come with lemon. So i had to ask for the lemon, which they glady brought to my table. What I loved about the calamari was that it actually had meat. It wasn't just all that fried crust, I hate it when calamari looks so good, but then you take a bite and your a suprised by the fact that there is NO meat, just breaded fried crap. My meal: the BB2LT wowza!! This meal was pig bliss! It had a nice crunch followed by a soft bite with a tangy twist. This is melt in your mouth watering food people. What I noticed about the food is that it is your traditional food with a little twist or twang. I will have to admit that this will be my cheat meal, but well worth it. As for the beer.... all i have to say is GO TRY IT! Really great beer and i just started getting into beer os for me its either i like it or i don't. Im sad i dont have the beer lingo or education to describe it, but all i know is that i enjoyed it and I am content with that. All in all... my experience is a 5, would give it a 10 if i could. I am from San Diego and when I moved here i was stolked about the land of enchantment , but when I got here the food and bar scene wasn't so enchanting. When friend's visit i seriously didn't have a great place to hang out, eat and drink other than Knob hill or all the way in Santa Fe. Now I am def starting to feel enchanted by the food, drinks, ambiance and the people i met at the bar. This place has really stepped up the game for Albuquerque. I think ABQ needs progression and can be put on the map with the help of all it's breweries and people just trying to dish out some good food, beer and good times. And as far as the pricing in my opinion it isnt bad. You get what you pay for! If you want to pay $7 for a meal that you know you can just got to the freezer aisle at Costco and stick it in the fryer or oven than my al means go that place Or you can go to a plcae where they really thought about your food and made it fresh to order. The going rate for good food is priceless. Thanks Stumbling Steer for making myexperience awesome! Can't wait to go back again

I'm physically addicted to their brussel sprouts! We have gone there several times and sat in the bar to watch sports, and it is always great. The people--both patrons and bartenders--are always so friendly. We've only ordered one entrée (ribs--tasty!) but have tried basically all of their appetizers and love them all. The pork belly is delish (although definitely not health food!) and their brussel sprout appetizer is SOOOOOO good! And they always have a bar menu of specialty drinks that are super tasty---and strong!

Eat the Pork Belly Bites in a bag with fresh powder sugar. I am enjoying the B2LT after. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Enjoy!

With a name like Stumbling Steer, I admit I went in expecting the place to only specialize in microbrew and cheap pub food. But this new Westside restaurant delivered beyond my expectations. I decided to try out the gastropub after recently trying their dish at the Taste of ABQ food event. Theyy had the best plate to sample in terms of quality of ingredients, serving portions, and presentation. My experience on-site was nothing less. The Crispy Brussel Sprouts were a great way to kick off the meal with a thai flair. If you hated brussel sprouts growing up, try these out with your matured taste buds - they will thank you. The entrees were just as delicious are they were pretty. I tried the Banana Leaf Grilled Salmon and the Skirt Steak & Fries (fried plantains). These dishes were very high quality and the serving sizes were generous enough for me to get a few meals the next days that warmed up brilliantly. I sat outside because it seemed the main room indoors was fairly loud on a Thursday night. The Blonde brew that I had was perfect at cooling me down on the patio on a nice summer evening. The only downside was smoking was allowed on the patio.

Let me start by saying. Oh my god............ The food here is amazing. We started with green chili poutine. Wow just the right amount if heat and the fries were deeeeelish!!!!!!!!! Then my husband had a monti cristo. Or was amazing sweet and yet savory. The fried egg on top just pushed it over the top. I had the B2LT. The bread was perfection. There was Bacon with a mayo concoction. And then the piece de' restance was the pork belly. My god that was perfection. If I die now I would be okay with it.

Went here for the first time last night with friends, was a little disappointed. Not very impressed with the beer and really not impressed with the food. We decided to just get a few appetizers and share them. The only plate that we found to be tasty was the sausage sampler, but at $18 is way to much for a starter. The most disappointing dish was the calamari, which looked and tasted exactly like fish sticks(Really!). All in all not a very good restaurant in my opinion, probably won't be back unless of course I feel like going back to my childhood with those overpriced fish sticks. Just have to remember to ask for ketchup.

We had my mom's going away party in the private room here. The space was perfect! The restaurant was full but the staff was able to get food and drinks out quickly. Everything tasted good. I had the chicken and mac and cheese. The best part however was their version of the Moscow mule. So good!
(5)Sylvia F.
Disappointed is an understatement. Pre- formed tasteless burgers cooked well done notwithstanding the order. Went twice before and we were looking forward to going back. Not again.

Emperor's new clothes? Open your eyes people....food is extremely salty and the service is slooooowwwww. Beers are pretty good but I can get much better service and better prices at Il Vicino, Fat Squirrel, or Turtle Mountain plus they have kid's menus whereas this place does not. Was worth checking out but much better places I'd rather spend my money at.
(3)James S.
This place is average at best food is fair but way overpriced the reason a 1 star is price compared to quality but 1 positive waitress was good
(1)Chase D.
I'm going to give this place 5 stars; however, I will preface that with the fact that some of my counterparts on my single visit to Stumbling Steer were not as impressed. At only 3 days open when I visited, we were amazed first at the transformation that had they had undertaken in revamping the old Quarter's BBQ. It has a homey yet modern vibe with lots of distressed wood, open floor plan and thoughtful lighting. The in-house brewed beer was quite tasty, but the best was my meal. The Korean style baby back ribs were some of the best ribs I've ever had. Meaty, tender, and just the right amount of juicy fat with a spicy bbq sauce to die for. The asian style slaw and potato salad were pretty tasty too. Overall I was really impressed and hope with time, my counterparts will come around as the Stumbling Steer gets their feet under them.
(5)Amber G.
The food selection here has gone downhill. Everything is greasy bar food. I'll accept that, but when your bar food isn't even very tasty, you have a problem. Fried food isn't good if it's not fresh, and their fish and chips definitely weren't fresh. The fish was exceptionally greasy, and lukewarm. It's definitely overpriced for such a mediocre food menu. The beer and the atmosphere were okay.
(2)Tonja S.
Excellent food! Probably the slowest and worst service ever. The waitress was polite, but incredibly slow. An hour and a half for burgers!
(2)Jane D.
Dear Chef, you need to get your act together and make a better menu or else you are going to be out of work. And the waitstaff needs to do a better job of service and selling the food! You are amateur!
(1)Jenn M.
We've been twice. The first time was amazing. The second time, not so much. We started off with the wings which were pretty tasteless. Then, had the Caesar salad which we couldn't get enough of on our first visit. On our second visit, it was mediocre at best. For our main course, we had the ribs. These were the only enjoyable part of the meal. Finally, we finished with the s'mores cake which tasted like it came from the frozen food case. We most likely won't be back.
(2)James B.
I have been here half a dozen times and the service is always disappointing, even if it's not busy. Food is decent; service is poor.

As a frequent local taproom visitor, I'm always excited and anxious for new local brews and foods to try. Finally went to Stumbing Steer about three months after they opened. With ABQs brew scene becoming extremely competitive and known around the country, any new brewery is going to have an uphill climb when competing with the other outstanding breweries in ABQ. Stumbling Steer's beer (I tried a sampler of everything they brewed) has a ways to go to be in the same category as La Cumbre and Marble. For beer I give it a 2 out of 5 stars. On to their food. My wife and I spilt our orders and I got half of the Chile Cheeseburger and she got half of my Monte Cristo. The cheeseburger could have been really good (the bun was one of the best I've ever had) but it seems like they tried to get too fancy with the ingredients. I tried my daughter's plain jane kids cheeseburger and it was far better than mine. The Monte Cristo unfortunately was not remotely what I expected of a Monte Cristo and the cranberry/blueberry mystery dip was another example of them trying to get too fancy and failing. The fries were outstanding and the service was average. One thing that caught me off guard was the so called "kids menu". They have one, but it's not in writing. My kids meals were between 5-6.50 each which was normal, or so I thought, but what they didn't tell you was the drinks were completely separate from the kids meal which for sodas were an additional 2.75 each for the kids drinks. All in all, lunch for five come out to $61 which I though for the kids meals was simply a rip off. Below average beer, and just average food gets 2 stars for me. As stated before, always support the local places first, but this one was a one time experience for me and my family. Far better places for food and brew in ABQ.

This was our 3rd time trying this place. Each time service is something to be desired. Waiting 10 minutes for a server to greet you is annoying, then when one does come to us "hi I'm sorry but so-n-so will be with you soon, can I get you a water". We say "sure" a few minutes later our server has come by. We order the Brussels sprouts and poutine no jalapeños and our drinks. After a while we order our food, a burger and a steak n fries, and my husband orders a salad. A wait later we receive our sprouts and another plate which I assume are is what we ordered. (I have never had the poutine before.). Go to grab a bite and the server snatches it away "sorry this isn't poutain and not what you ordered" made me feel like I was he one who did wrong. So he comes back no apology, and sets the poutine down. It has jalapeños, so we have to wait for our server to come check on us again before we can tell him. 5 min later we get his attention, and tell him, it literally takes 2 seconds to get a new one. I will admit it was pretty good, a fancy take on chile cheese fries. So 20 minutes after we get our apps our food finally gets there. The salad comes WITH the burger and steak. The steak was tough and the sauce wasn't good, the burger was alright, I ordered it a medium got a medium well. So we eat, and see the big table that sat about 20 minutes after us, gets their food, 5 minutes after we got ours....that was kind of annoying. So we ask for our check, and our server moves faster then ever to get us out. So needless to say we probably won't be eating here anytime soon. Although we really really love the Brussels sprouts so we will make another attempt. Hopefully the service will improve. Although it's probably not likely to. I will say this server was an improvement from the last server we had. At least he didn't toss the food on to the table or call me honey.

We have been waiting for this restaurant to open for quite a long time now. The westside is seriously lacking in upscale options for beers and food. The decor is very nice. Lots of wood and just feels comfy. The bar is beautiful and gigantic but we had our kids so sat in the dining room. The lack of a childrens menu is a slight issue but we figured it out. The beer was absolutely delicious! I had the white and my husband had the IPA. We both enjoyed them very much. My only complaint is that I am vegan and there was pretty much nothing to choose from. Its not a very big complaint since I knew what I was getting into when I chose to go here... I mean HELLO even the name says meat. A veggie burger would have been more convenient but even so, I had the salad and crispy brussel sprouts. Who knew brussel sprouts could be so delicious?? Thai chilis and garlic made these so great I cant even explain. We will definitely be back to the stumbling steer.

Appropriately named as our waiter and the food stumbled all over the place. We had to wait 15 minutes for our first drink. i ordered a version of a whisky sour. My husband ordered a blonde beer. The drinks arrived followed by crispy Brussel sprouts. The beer was totally flat, the sour was average, the Brussels were not crisp at all. On to the entree. I ordered the B2LT, a version of a BLT but with slow cooked pork belly, bacon, lettuce and tomato jam. For $12.99 I expected a pretty good size sandwich but upon arrival, a portion of the ciabatta roll had NOTHING on it. The two small strips of pork belly were pretty much indescriable. Chewy but not distinctive in flavor. The bacon was over cooked and tough, and the worst part was the overly sweetened tomato jam, very reminiscent of tomato paste. The nut brown I ordered with the sandwich never arrived. My husband traded the flat blonde for a wheat beer which was just as flat as the blonde. When prompted the waiter said he didn't bring my beer because the "tap was out." We had to then wait for him to retrieve a beer menu. With all of the flat beer that had come to our table, I reached for the menu to peruse the bottled beer and safely ordered an Anchor Bock. My husband ordered the chili cheese burger. In all fairness, he said it was okay. The fries on both plates were lukewarm as was the B2LT. There is a long list of beers, but the two brewed by SS were both flat. Stick with the bottles. The busser gave the best service, immediately bringing my little terrier a bowl of cold water almost immediately after we had arrived. She is very much appreciated. All in all, this was one of the worst meals we've had in New Mexico. Kelly's has better sandwiches for a lessor price and certainly the service at Kelly's is much better. Like I said earlier, this place is appropriately named. DO NO PATRONIZE. D.Dufresne

We went here on a busy Friday night. Let me tell you, this place gets LOUD! We sat in the bar area for dinner and the food was amazing. Let alone, the presentation of the food is something you would see at an upscale restaurant. It is a bit on the pricy side but the food is amazing and you get what you pay for. However, to me, there is a total disconnect between the atmosphere and the food. The food is not what I would typically call "pub food" here. The menu is limited, with just a few choices with not a lot of variety. The service was horrible but that's kind of to be expected when a restaurant just opens, right? All in all it was a decent experience. I don't know if I would call this my favorite place- I have been to a lot better ones. Bu,t I would certainly give it another try in the very near future!

I went to the Stumbling Steer with two friends for lunch. We were seated perusing the menu and our waiter came up and took the menus and said "this menu is for Beer Week and we cannot serve this food until 2 PM". He then brought a printed menu of 6 items, 2 of which were hamburgers. I can honestly say I have never had a menu taken away from me and been told that I cannot order anything except from a limited and frankly bad menu. I had already ordered a soft drink when my friends and I decided to leave. I told the waiter that we were leaving and he brought me a bill for $3.00 for a soft drink that I had two sips from. If this is the way they treat their customers, good luck staying in business. My friends and I met at 12:30 and I do not think that is to early to order from the menu. I will not be going back to the Stumbling Steer which is a shame as we need good restaurants on the West Side, alas this is not one.

Went to this restaurant with my family. My third time there. While the beers are good and it's an innovative concept, the service this time was AWFUL. It took 5 minutes for a server to come to our table. The fish and chips were gross: too greasy. After we had finished our meals my daughter ordered desert. No one came to take our plates so when the server arrived with the desert he tried to shove the dinner plates aside to put the desert down. We had to pick up our dinner plates and ask the server to take them. Having been a server myself, this is inexcusable. He acted as if picking the plates up wasn't part of his job description. For the first time ever we did not tip the server. We tried to tell the manager and his response was "Oh, sorry." And this time the clientele was "sketchy." This was at 5pm last Saturday. We were embarrassed in front of our family. And we won't go back.
(1)Ron C.
My wife, her mother and I tried this restaurant about two weeks ago. It was a Saturday evening at around 6PM. They appeared busy and told us there would be a 40 minute wait. We sat on hard benches for the entire 40 minutes waiting for a table. Not once did any of the numerous wait staff ask to take our drink order. You would think a brewpub would want to advertise their beer. We were seated and ordered samplers. They arrived and we found out they don't make their own beer! We ordered pints anyway. Our waitress also took our meal order at the same time. Our food arrived about 20 minutes later. It was cold and under cooked. (wings and fish and chips). Our beers, nowhere to be seen. We ask the person who served our food. He said he would check on it. He was never seen again. Meanwhile a white-haired, white bearded gentleman with a red sweatshirt tries to remedy the problem. We will call him Drunk Santa. He listened to our problem, splashed beer on our table and staggered off to save the day. He accosts the manager with our tale, but the manager never appeared at our table. Finally our waitress reappears. Our meals our done by this point. She says that our beers will be out shortly. Drunk Santa runs over with some mystery beer. Finally we just had them take it off our tab and we paid our bill and left. Needless to say, they were a major FAIL.

This place is sooo underated and I am sooo sadden to hear they are closing this Friday. Albuquerque doesn't know what they are missing.
(5)Mary K.
Came here in a Saturday as part of a fun night with my daughter. Bad way to kick it off. We were told the wait would be 20 minutes and I noticed that there were at least 15 open tables-?? As we waited, more and more people finished and tables opened up- but every group that came in were given wait times of 30 mins and up- ? When we finally asked the hostess if we were gonna get seated soon, (running out of time to make it to big event) she told us that the kitchen was "on hold" and not cooking any new orders????? Huh? What does that even mean????? We told her we were now pressed for time, and in a much appreciated attempt to help us she seated us. However- after the initial greeting from waiter- our drink order was taken (and he couldn't even tell me if they had the wine I wanted) but he completely disappeared- except to serve drink orders to tables who were seated AFTER us. No water- no waiter..... No dinner. We walked out. It put a total damper on what was to be a fun evening. If you have a facility with that many tables and full wait staff- why on earth would you put a kitchen "on hold" and NOT close your doors???? Crazy. This place needs new management. Straight up. I certainly won't go back.

I'm not sure how a place like this gets away with calling itself a gastropub. It's just overpriced bland american food served on square plates. Half the menu is friggin' burgers! There's nothing wrong with serving burgers, but come on guys, you're clearly not a gastropub. They made us wait for 20 minutes to be seated even though there were tons of empty tables and booths. I'm not sure why they wouldn't just sit us and say there's a wait for a server. It's awkward standing around in a group in the front of the restaurant constantly moving out of the way of waiters and people coming and going. The brewery aspect of the restaurant is fine, as the beer was really good. I had the imperial stout with coffee and nutmeg, which they called the Red Eye. The menu said it's $4.95, but they charged me $6 for it. Lame... All in all the food was fine, but clearly overpriced for what it is. My plain salmon and coconut rice was $16. Wtf? Something like that should run $8-12. They're charging like a gastropub but not delivering like one.
(2)Howie K.
Gastropubs evolved in Great Britain because eventually the general public- their stomachs, rather -demanded more sustenance than a pint and Ploughman's lunch. Tune your ear to regulars at Marble, Bosque, Tractor, Il Vicino or La Cumbre and you'll get the same general sentiment: this town has some fantastic beer, but my God am I hurtin' for a plate. To a large extent the food truck nation has swooped in and soaked up the suds, but great brews and a proper meal at a table with your mates is still tough to find in these parts. It's a big part of the allure of Nexus, fo' sho'. Underneath the trendy veneer of Stubling Steer you'll find some workin' class eats and enlightened but crowd-friendly pours. My initial experience with a Monte Cristo was a traumatic nightmare, way back in the day, and I vowed I'd never consider a sandwich sporting powdered sugar again, but I took a chance here and it more than delivered. Dip your fries in some homemade ranch dressing, yum. Both IPAs ditched the massive hop frenzy for a subtle approach, I thought both were good, the cask was citrusy and a little sweet. The imperial stout was, well, imperial, Darth Vader stormtrooping down my gullet. Not amazing beer, but I decided to take the wait-and-see approach. I returned with an entourage and we tried a pretty big spread: beer can chicken, fish & chips, Korean baby back ribs and a burger. I had the ribs, I don't usually employ this term but the rack was absolutely amaze-balls, stupid good, sweet and sticky and more than my wonton stomach could handle. Reports of the rest didn't really come in strong, save the burger, which looked like a really solid choice at a fair price point. Again, the beer was good but lacked something, no complaints but they can improve. My only issue, I suppose, was the lack of greens or fruits. It's safe to state, I think, that the crowd Stumbling Steer is aiming to please also enjoys healthy options. I'm a city boy, so I've only seen footage of a stumbling steer; it was part of a news segment about mad cow disease. I'm pretty mad about this westside cow, too. It's a great new addition to the 'hood.

Bigger cities like Chicago and NY are chock full of gastropubs like The Stumbling Steer. This basically means house-brewed beers coupled with a chef's slightly experimental, kind of trendy take on comfort food classics. Reading the reviews here, however, it looks like ABQ is not ready for [begin sarcasm] wild and crazy culinary forays like green chile relish on a green chile burger and "unmelted" cheese on a sandwich that is literally called caprese... and.. whooaaaaaa ... vertigo-inducing maneuvers like a constantly changing menu, 'unsauced but flavored' chicken wings - and, and, and they don't even bring ketchup unless you remember to ask for it! Gosh darn it, Albuquerque, this is why we can't have nice things. Now, back to reality: SS's beer is legit, with a lot of fun options and a great bottle selection if you don't share their brewing tastes. The food is even better. Huge beef ribs with Vietnamese flavor that isn't cloyingly sweet, served with noodle salad that is actually spicy. Steak frites that are executed perfectly (med-rare for me) - served with a chimichurri sauce that was so good I wanted to take it home with me, & w/ plantains instead of fries (nice touch). Green chile mac and cheese carbonara ($12!) that's rich and creamy and the only way that I want to die. My brother and mother loved their NY strips (a steal at $23 each). Chicken fried in duck fat and chicken gravy really takes their chicken-&-waffles to another level. SS even has $4 glasses of house wine if you're on a budget and not in the mood for beer. 3 stars is stooopid for a place this good - how embarrassing. Easily a 5-star establishment.
