Sandia Chile Grill is a perfect hole in the wall spot that would never expect to see in the NE Heights. This place offers some tasty huge burritos that are cooked up in front of you and they also pack some heat with there spicy green chile. The place is ran by a father/son duo and each one of them are friendly. Sandia Chile Grill also serves up some killer beer as well which is also brewed by them. If you are in the area this place is worth checking out!

The atmosphere is so awkward! It's really to bad because I like the beer and the food but they really need to change the interior.

There are three owners "The dad/cook", very friendly. "The son/brewer", talented and "the really mean lady", just mean The food was great. Better than I expected. The mean lady was just over the top, mean. She yelled at me when I ordered a beer that wasn't one of the two they had on hand. Then the son corrected her. So she yelled at me for nothing. She was pretty impatient. She was nicer, when we were walking out. I'd try it again because of the food and beer. . And this time I'll be prepared to be yelled at.

I grew up in Albuquerque but I live in Florida now.when I come back to Albuquerque for vacation I like to try places that weren't around when I was growing up. So I gave Sandia chili grill a try for breakfast. I ate the breakfast burrito. It wasn't terrible but it also wasn't as good as in most New Mexican restaurants. The employees or owners or whoever they are were really cool I'll give them that. The coffee was terrible. This day and age nobody should be brewing Folgers.

Looking for a new local spot to try this morning and came across Sandia Chile Grill. I was a little confused by the grill part seeing that most of the meats were smoked. I thought is was neat that they offered a wide range of food other then just Mexican food. The BBQ menu looked very good, although i went with a stuffed sopa with chicken and red and green chili, stuffed sopa with beef and the taco plate with chicken. The chili was very good both red and green. The only thing that threw me a little off was the smoked chicken in the stuffed sopa it was a interesting combo. The chicken taco platter would be the way to go if want chicken you also get the option of three sauces for your tacos sweet, spicy or tangy. I like the spicy the best. The ground beef with red would be the ideal combo for the stuffed sopa and add a fried egg on top as it was recommended to me and went great with the meal. The service was very good very attentive staff and friendly. I would eat here again.

Went back again. Try to give them a second chance. Owner complained the entire time told me I didn't know good beer. Was upset that I did not want to order their over priced food. I told him last time I was there did not like the food or the beer. Will not return here again.

Sorry to say, but I just had the *worst* breakfast burrito I've ever had in my entire life. How can you screw up a burrito that has eggs, potatoes, cheese and red chile in it? The extremely bland burrito had a bizarre and foul, bitter aftertaste. What in the hell could/would possibly produce such a taste? Spoiled chile? My few prior experiences here were meh, but this was just disgusting. Also, woman at the counter was just plain rude. Never. Again.

Bought a Living Social coupon to try out this place (like to eat local). I thought it was really good! Fresh ingredients, cooked on the spot so it was served very hot (which I think is a good thing), and very flavorful hot green chile. Very large portions and decent home-brew. I'll definitely go back again.

I used to love this place when it first started out at some gas station down in I think Las Cruces. I went here after a workout & was sorely disappointed. The guy that took my order was very short & after a wait I received a very bland chicken milanesa. I had to add salt to every bite. Maybe I should give it another shot, then again maybe not.

The trash that the roaches were munching on looked a lot better than the dogfood quality product being served. Forget about the hair in the food, what really made me ill, (other than the food) was watching the lack of hygene, poor attitude of the managment., and the vague stench of death.

Finally ate there , the bbq sangwich was awesome, I had the Enchilada con Huevos with Green , perfect and the bbq sauces are really good. Very friendly and good prices. Just one knock on the place , the tile behind grille station was dirty. I'll be back though , that pulled pork was so good.

Caught a workout at Del Norte Sports & Wellness and I was craving some chile so my buddy and I stopped in here for a late lunch. I was greeted by a nice fellow (I believe the owner and also by his son). I didn't realize it but they also serve their own craft beer (bonus!). On this day I ask what they would recommend for lunch and it was the beef stuffed sopapilla with green chile. The kitchen is open to view and my lunch was prepared fresh as we watched. I found the dish to be quite tasty I'd drop in again for sure. I ask what beer they were most proud of and was served the Irish red, I'll say it's pretty tasty too, give it a try if you're in.

Well let's start with the service, it was AWESOME!! The owner and son were both there, and super friendly. They made sure the order was right (had a special order) had a huge smile on and were just plain fun to be around! I couldn't speak more highly of their customer service! The food which is the most important part to me! I ordered the big asada, and it wasn't bad it wasn't good just kind of average. The meat was well cooked as well as the bacon and potatoes, but the burrito was screaming for some more seasoning. Like I said everything was cooked very well just didn't have much pop like I expected. The place was TINY, but I like that in a restaurant! If you plan on taking a huge party you might want to think about getting it to go as this place probably seats 25 people or so. That being said it was very clean but could use some more light in the place was kind of dark and gloomy. All in all this place wasn't great wasn't bad and I will probably give it another shot. Maybe with the stuffed sopa's next time!

Much smaller than I was anticipating. Barely enough tables to sit down! I ordered the steak and chicken burrito with ham, bacon and green chile. Holy crap the chiles were hot today! Hot chile, cold beer, what more could you ask for. The Nitro Milk Stout cooled the heat of the chiles and everything was good. Too bad this place is in a strip mall, otherwise, if you like dives, beer and burritos, this is the place.

I was looking forward to trying the BBQ. I ordered the pulled pork street tacos which sounded and were presented very good. However, the pork itself was dry and tasteless. The meat depended too much on the sauce for both moistness and flavor. Great BBQ does not depend on sauce. The 1/2 avocado that was served with the plate was mostly black versus green as an avocado should be. I ordered a beer with my meal and didn't receive the first 1/2 of the pour until I was 1/2 way done with my meal. The other 1/2 of the beer was delivered after I had finished my meal - I was never given a good reason as to why there was this delay on the beer - keg problem of some sort. Overall I was highly disappointed and its unlikely that I'll return to try again. The price for the meal greatly exceeded the value and satisfaction I received.

Amazing food. Lively conversation with the owners. And dang good craft beer! We go at least once a week to try what's on tap and something new on their huge menu. Yet to be disappointed with anything. Just really quality food made from scratch with fresh ingredients, and HUGE portions. An $8 entree is two meals worth! And since it's got such a 'neighborhood joint' family feel, we always befriend somebody new there. The owner, Mick, creates that kind of Cheers feeling there. And his son Clint, the brewmaster, is more soft spoken but equally caring about his customers and their experience at Sandia Chile Grill. It has really evolved from its beginnings cooking up its famous breakfast burritos at the local gas station. Still fabulous value for money but a much more expanded menu, it's own digs, and now the awesome brews to compliment dinner! The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the ambiance. But they are growing like crazy and looking for a new place to call home, at which point is will be PERFECT !

All I can say is WOW. I go there very often now, at least once a week, and today was no exception. When I called in today I told Clint to make me the best thing he could that had both chicken and steak. Knowing that I put mushrooms in everything, he did in this one too. The next thing he asked me was, "Are you hungry" .. I said "He** yeah I am". HE said come on down. When I walked in after about 10 minutes, he was finishing making my burrito, and My God did it smell good. He made me a monstrous burrito to say the least... The thing barely wrapped :D . Before having me pay, and handing it to me, he put it on the weigh scale, and the scale read "9 oz" . I ate it in class at school- unforgettable. The burrito was amazing, and everyone in my classroom kept commenting on how good it smelt.

Great food! We had the El Jefe taco plate and added a relleno and tamale! Everything was fresh and tasted great. We will be back.

Sandia Chile Grill has some of the friendliest staff I've come across all restaurants I've been to in Albuquerque. Thierry food is awesome, and their beer is even better.

This is a great local place. I had the best breakfast burrito I had during my entire stay in Albuquerque here, and also had one of the beers they brewed in house, a really good Irish Red. Upon asking, the brewers were happy to give me a tour of the area where they brew the beer - they have a couple of double-barrel fermenters, which really gives the term "microbrew" a new meaning. They make all of their stuff - food and beer - from scratch, and they rightfully take pride in what they do. Definitely a good place to stop if you're in the area.

Grabbed some lunch here on my friend Brad's recommendation, and it was a good decision. I ordered the green chile chicken stew, which consists of a pound of zucchini, chicken, onions, green chile and cheese. Damn, that was tasty!! Nicely seasoned, not overcooked and more than enough food to satisfy my fat-bastard hunger. A super-friendly place, and the prices are extremely reasonable. I totally recommend this place.

No one in our party of four liked the food or the IPA. Portions were huge; service very good.

We often go here after our gym workouts. I'm addicted to their green chili chicken stew, and my son loves their breakfast burrito (egg, potato, cheese). The location is small but there is indoor seating for about 25 people. The proprietor is very nice and often gives the kids small freebies like sopaipillas (think Mexican beignets) with honey, or a bag of chips. The food comes quickly which is important when you've got wiggly hungry kids (not to mention a hungry spouse) waiting. The food is yummy, not at all greasy, well seasoned but not so spicy that you can't enjoy your food. The menu consists mostly of burritos with various fillings, but if there is a combination you don't see on the menu, just ask for what you want and they'll make it. They also have enchiladas, tamales, quesadillas, and stuffed sopaipillas. And the prices are very good, especially for the amount of food you get. Very good value.

My new favorite nmexican food joint! Good food & good people. I love to support local businesses especially those who reciprocally support the community. SCG doesn't only support the community's stomachs but various youth programs who's notes & posters of gratitude adorn the walls of this diner-like joint. The staff is unanimously friendly & welcoming. I made numerous snafus including misunderstanding the total (look at the paper menus instead of the board to avoid this) & inadvertently short changing them, as well as looking at the pop machine for a water dispenser & after noticing none so I filled on mt dew (water pitchers turned out to be behind the giant tea pitchers). When I went to admit my mistakes (after gettin some cash fr the close by ATM) and pay up they were really nice & gave me a "don't worry about it." I wasn't gonna let such good hearted folks get by that easily so instead I left a generous tip in their tip jar. Oh! The food! Duhhh... 1 lion tamer-fantastic! Generous portion, no skimping on cheese, chile, chicken, beans... Basically no skimping. The side soapapilla was delicious but lukewarm, but I think it's hard to fry fresh sopas all the time. I'll be coming back & definitely suggest to friends & family. The owner seemed to be very engaging with the customers. He was fixin some chile when I was eating my breakfast. Can't wait to go back!

Just ate at this place for the first time.....AWESOME! I had the Machaca breakfast burrito, my husband had the small (which is huge) Breakfast Dream burrito. Both were stuffed full of piping hot, fresh ingredients. Owner (Mick) and his staff treat everyone like old friends...super friendly! The are working on getting a license for their own micro beers. Stop in around 3:00pm for a beer tasting and give them your opinion on their beers while chowing down on some great NM grub!

Meh. I've experienced better... Sums it up just about perfectly. If you want New Mexican Food, there are dozens of places better. If you want a quick burrito, then there are places better (sadly not dozens).

Very tasty. I got huevos rancheros (bacon & red) and it was delightful. Faulty quick and (mostly) nice service. I'd recommend it if you're in the Academy area.

This is a great place up in the Northeast Heights and not just for the food and beer, which are outstanding. The thing that made the greatest impression on me here were the two good guys, father and son, that work there, love what they do and make customers like me feel welcome and appreciated. My wife and I had some good New Mexican food, calabacitas, burritos and burgers, all of which were served in healthy portions and prepared for us on the spot (and before our eyes). The prices were good too with everything in the $3-10 range. As for the beer, the younger of the duo is slowly making a name for himself. Two of his beers won awards at the most recent New Mexico beer fest (I forget the official name of the fest) and I agree with those making a fuss about this guy and his beer. My wife had his wheat beer and enjoyed it so much she asked for a pint, a pretty rare occurrence as she rarely drinks. As for me, I got a flight to try everything and was not disappointed. Of five beers, I'd say three were on par with our city's best and the other two were just good, meaning I'd have them again without a moment of hesitation. If you don't want a flight, I'd suggest the milk stout or IPA as a sure shot. Unfortunately, the award-winning pilsner wasn't available when we went in, so I'll have to return for that.

I've been going to the SCG since it was located inside the Shell gas station across the parking lot. The food is phenomenal and the owner, Mick, is pretty much the friendliest man in the world. I don't think I've ever seen him without a smile on his face. My friends and I walk in after being out of town for a few months and he greets us by or first names and picks up the conversation where we left off like he didn't even notice we'd been gone. Totally excellent place to eat.

This place is a total sleeper, and I encourage anyone who likes micro-brews and good Mexican food to seek it out immediately. As luck would have it, it's located near my gym, which makes it particularly useful for after workout fueling sessions. First, understand that Clint and Mickey are awesome dudes that love brewing beer (and making mead), and have a passion for good food. That's the foundation of this place: good brews and good food. When you go in, you might wonder where the big brew kettles are, and why is this place so small ... well, these guys are making it happen in that small space regardless. The brew kettle is right up front, and the food is prepared right in front of you. About that food ... I love the Lion Tamer. Sopapilla, beans, meat, potatoes, sauce ... yum! I also like their steak tacos. In the mood for something healthy? This place has a lot of gluten-free and vegetarian options. Not a lot of people would suspect it, but you can fill up here and not be bloated and covered in grease. Did I mention they brew their own beer? There's a small selection (something like 5 at any given time), which covers the whole gamut from pale ales to stouts. You'll be able to find what you crave. I also appreciate how they do seasonal brews, and are always tinkering with recipes.

**UPDATED** to one star due to the owners UNPROFESSIONAL reaction. And we are planning another visit in the next month, so will update how that one goes. Visited Sandia Chile Grill while on vacation from Chicago, as it was recommended from a friend. This is why I do not listen to my friends recommendations. Obviously, our opinion on what is good is not the same. Food was bland and beer is flat. Two killers in the industry.

This was just a random visit with some coworkers. The first thing I noticed was that the owner was not very friendly. She did not seem like she wanted to be there. I got a cup of water which had a hair in it. I didn't think much of it and the owner was cool about giving me another cup. He told me a story about a customer who also had a hair in her food. He said it was her hair and I didn't think much of it at the time. I ordered the coyote burger which was at best, ok. The patty tasted frozen and the potatoes and beans were blah. As an appetizer I got the chips and salsa. The chips were fried corn tortillas which were not that great. At the end of my meal I found a hair once again in the food. I have short hair and this hair was long. It was definitely not from me or my coworkers. I didn't say anything at the time but I left it on the plate pretty obviously. I probably will never come back here again as my experience was not very great.

what a hugh dissapointment!!! I called to make a take-out order today 06/02/2015. my husband Russ went to pick up the order and when he got home he brought only a partial order.I called right away to let the owner know that he had left off the lettuce and cheese. He said he did not have lettuce, but if I would bring these right back he would get me a correct order. I told him my husband would not go back but I could take a picture if he was saying I was lying. What I would rather do is get a "correct meal for free" next time. He (the son I believe) said it is their policy that they must have the food back???? I asked who would pay for my time and gas? he said he had no answer..... I won't be going back. Be careful you get what you order!!! Also be careful of your bill. I got two Beef stuffed Sopaipillas listed on the menu at $6.99ea which equals $13.98 for two x 7% for sales tax $.97 = $14.95 and my husband gave a $3.00 tip =$16.98 My receipt is for $23.31 What is the other $6.33 for?????

I now LOVE this place. I decided to try again and eat at the restaurant. The owners (father and son) are so nice and friendly, they make it very comfortable. I got the Tasmanian tiger again, and it is PERFECT! I got green chile inside and smothered with red. The green chile is fresh and chopped, the red simple, homemade and delicious! The beans are whole and fresh. My burrito is so big they used two tortillas to wrap it. If I wasn't busy tonight I would come back for dinner and a beer, plus the son is HOT! Good looking and a great cook, what more could I ask for? The place is a bit hard to find, but right next to a gym, worth looking for.

A small family owned burrito, etc restaurant which includes a micro brewery in the true sense! Only two brews were available as the IPA was sold out. Being the hop head that I am, this was disappointing. My stuffed Sopapilla was generous and good with a nice green chile kick. I had the Nitro Milk Stout which was very nice. They are now serving smoked meats and occasional smoked fish and shrimp. Very nice owners, worth a visit.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
