Ahh.. Good ol Saggios, This is a place where you go if your looking for a great meal thats quick and delicious. Saggios also isn't cheap with there portions as they tend to have over sized plates. Saggios pizza is probably one of the best here in Albuquerque they also offer pasta and sandwiches which are to die for especially there sandwiches! The decor is a bit tacky and the self service is a shocker especially for a restaurant that serves such good food. I really recomend this place to anyone who is in the UNM area.

Excellent pizza, fresh ingredients, small size was plenty for 2 people. Great decor with live accordion player doing oldies. Very nice touch. Would definitely recommend. Large portions.

Felt like I owed saggios a review after the countless times I ate here while in college. Food is always great, and cheap, can't beat that! Usually stuck with a slice of pizza or the chicken Caesar sandwich, never disappointed. The chocolate cannoli is amazing and so is the pasta salad!

Been here twice, good atmosphere, ok service, huge portions but flavorless, I think they don't use salt, and definitely no garlic unless is the saturated garlic bread, which is greasy and too toasted, or greasy and soggy. Next time I go will be for to watch the games on TV and beer.

These days, Saggio's pizza is very hit or miss. They used to have the best pizza. Now, the recipe seems to change every week. Lately, the pizza has been dough-heavy, with not enough sauce or cheese. Today, the green chili toppings were visibly different and tasted horrible. It makes me wonder if they've got a new owner that believes in cost-cutting???

My daughter and I were going to the Nutcracker show across the street at Popejoy and we love this place. The slices are huge and delicious and my daughter loved their pasta salad. Even though it was crazy busy, we were able to get in and out with full stomachs and happy taste buds. A definite place to go when you are craving pizza.

Righteous. I had a bigass calzone and a local IPA. They were not stingy with the fillings. I've got a good buzz on now thanks to the green chile.

  • Asif A.

They use fresh pineapple and their green chile is one of the best on pizza. Tastes pretty damn good! The crusts are too thick and dry though.

Love the atmosphere and the food. Good food, good portions and good price. Saggios is a must stop for us when in Albuquerque.

I generally dislike Saggios for a host of reasons, and seem to find a brand new one each time I visit. My most recent experience involved getting two slices of pie and a a chocolate dessert canolli. The pie was served with the cold, gross toppings and they completely ruined my two lukewarm slices. Also my 'server' (ahem, incompetent snot cashier) was too lazy to walk from the counter to the dessert tray to serve the food I had paid for when I ordered. Instead, I was told I needed to 'wait for my dessert until after I was finished eating'. It took me almost 15 minutes and waiting through the ordering line a second time to get the cannelloni I paid for. Same story with my drink too. In all, I feel like this restaurant is a glorified taco bell with clueless staff and really weak processes. The ownership seems not to strive to do better and the turnover of staff makes improving them next to impossible. I've lost my patience with this establishment and it only serves to re-enforce the idea that "You just can't find good pizza in Albuquerque". Parking is a real pain in the ass, and to pay for parking and dealing with the snot kids by UNM just to have an experience like this makes me want to be kicked in the crotch a few times instead of eating here. It's the same story with Fastinos on Juan Tabo. PLEASE go elsewhere. Nearby Mario's on 40/San Pedro and Even the California Pizza Kitchen Yuppie-triscut pizza-salad atrocity is better than this crap. It's sad if pizza can be outdone with a triscut wanna be slice. Verdict: More incompetent wage slave push around at outrageous prices. I long for a Dions across the street from UNM. At least Dions has some training programs to train the Smug burqueno incompetence out of the staff. Saggios seems to embrace it. It's obnoxious. It's expensive. It's terrible. F-. Crap. Please close and give the space to a restaurant that deserves the spot.

Gross! Maybe I'm cursed with horrible service lately, but I've never come across anything like I did tonight! Saggios was busy because it was sorority night and the girls ate for free. (It is usually a very popular place and has a mixed crowd and a lot of the UNM students go there.) It was a place I've been to countless times, but I will not be returning after tonight!! We got our pizza and couldn't finish half of it (slices are huge) I went up to the counter and the guy stated he didn't have any pizza boxes and gave me a styrofoam box that wouldn't fit the slices. That wasn't me biggest problem. When I opened the box, the sides were black and looked like they were covered in mold! I went back and told the guy I wanted a new one and wanted a pizza box. He grabbed one out of the trash and gave me a used box with left over grease, garbage, and tissue inside to use!!!! The manager asked who would give that to me and seemed to doubt my accusation until the worker admitted it all nonchalant and was kinda sassy to the manager. If this is the man cooking food there, and he sees no problem with digging things out of the trash to use, it makes me wonder what the heck else he's doing????

I have been going to Saggios since I moved to ABQ in 1998. I have always gotten the same thing--slices and breadsticks. The breadsticks were the exact same dough as the crust and were pillowy, bready logs of awesome. We went there the other night, and I opened the box. The first thing I thought was, "That crust looks strange." Sure enough, they've changed it. =( It tastes like the shittiest quality frozen chain restaurant crust possible. It's GROSS. It's doughy and bland, and the texture is all wrong. I took one bite and nearly horked. I took one more just to be sure--and the verdict is that it is probably the worst pizza I've ever purchased at a restaurant. I seriously think Tombstone frozen pizzas are better than this stuff. It seemed like they changed the pizza sauce, too--this stuff was oddly sweet and seriously tasted like Ragu. So this didn't bode well for the breadsticks, either. Sadly, they're different too. They're really dense and lack the flavor they used to have. Total fail, Saggios, total fail. I'm certainly never spending my money there again, not if they've changed to crappier ingredients. The worst part (besides not being able to eat my dinner because it was effing nasty) is that I had a terrible stomachache from the one breadstick I ate. =( So in a nutshell: bullshit pizza, less than mediocre breadsticks, and GI distress for a full day. No thanks.

So this is my very first review on yelp. Until now I never found it necessary to have a yelp account. Today, however, I felt compelled to give my opinion on this wonderful place. Saggios is a very comfortable and fun place to enjoy some genuine Italian cuisine. Not only does the owner have a flare for eclectic decor, he excels in utilizing 80 year old family recipes to give the place authentic flavors found no where else. From the wonderful marinara sauce, to the decadent desserts shipped exclusively from Chicago, it is without question that this restaurant takes extreme pride in their product. I will be returning!

best pizza around, I love the chili crust. The owners donate food to local events because they are great people who believe in giving back to the community and I haven't had a better pizza, unfortunately I can't comment on anything else because the mediteranean specialty pizza is too hard to quit. Oh the tIramisu(sp?) was pretty great too.

I like their pizzas and salads, but I feel it's a little over priced. I'm also happy with my food that I have ordered there. I would love to give this place a 3.5, but I went with the 4 because I really like their pizzas. The atmosphere is casual and good for watching the game, hanging out, or bringing kids too.

I dont think this is the BEST pizza.. but I like it for its genre (to me it's better than dion's) when i want something ooey gooey cheesey..... I eat way more than i should of the green chile/pepperoni pizza....i can feel the heartburn already... I like to go to saggio's when I want to watch something on TV since they have many of them..... I'm not a big sports person...but when I do want to watch something sports related it's fun to come here.... (ie. the Chicago Blackhawks winning the Stanley Cup in 2010.. the olympics....etc..).

I've been here many many times over a period of many many years. I keep going back because it's so good and so cheap. I especially like the pasta. Portions are giant, so best to split the pasta between 2 people. It's also a fun and unique place to hang out. This place used to be called Nunzio's. I think it's owned by the same family, but now under a different name (all the Nunzio's pizza places in Alb closed - think the family made some bad business decisions so they had to close all their restaurants).

Good pizza and beer. The place offers a dozen or so tv's so you can enjoy the game along with the pizza. The service is generally good.

This will always be a late night staple when I go back home. Now imagine Caesar salad on a bun...no it does not sound very good until you taste how they do it at Saggios! Yes pizza will always be a stand-by...especially when dinner burns on the stove your you experimented a little too much with your herb garden. Now, try some of the other stuff on the menu! The do more then just pizza. The chicken caesar sandwich is amazing...I don't want to give it away before you've tried it!

Saggio's is one of those places where you either love it or hate it. The only thing keeping me from giving them 5 stars is the parking isn't very good and the place is very noisy.

    (4)
  • Holly A.

OK, for pizza, this place is good, I love the doughy crust and the toppings are fresh..had green chili and anchovies...yes, salty but I am into salt...the Sicilian Salad was fantastic!! My 12 year old daughter could not stop eating it...very fresh and way better than Slice Parlor where the crust is burnt and soaked in grease...I prefer taking the food out to eating in at Saggio's but that is because I feel too old to be eating with wannabe rappers who are UNM students in disguise getting loud and the tv blasting sports non stop...I only wish they delivered...

  • Alexandra Z.

Great value! My first experience with Saggio's was at the UNM student union. The Big Slice is a wonderful deal, and pretty good pizza! The actual restaurant has awesome decor, and good desserts too. The tirimisu is to die for!

THREE AND HALF STARS. I've only been able to go here once. I was in town visiting family, was hungry and there was a Bears game on. I like there is a place I can go to watch the game when in town. I only tried the pizza- pretty good. Prices are not ridiculous. Good atmosphere. Probably a dozen-and-a-half TVs showing all the Sunday games. I don't know what other sports they show (I didn't investigate.) If I make it back here, I can update this review. I'd go back more for being able to watch a game than specifically for the food.

Hitting some of my favorite haunts while I am back in ABQ, I couldn't pass up a chance to stop in here. Located just a block or so off Central and UNM this is a local/college favorite and one of mine too. I know here I am guaranteed a quality meal at a very fair price. Not to mention the fact that the portions are very generous and I often have something for later. They sell pizza by the slice or order up a full one. They have various flavored crusts to choose from and numerous toppings. Their calzones are huge and made to order. Their pastas and sauces are very good, I still find that my favorite is the baked ziti. They have several salads that are huge and full of fresh ingredients. Check the board for specials...the one I saw recently had a slice of pizza and a beer for $4.99. (These are not small slices either). The only down fall about this place is the parking. Don't even think of parking in the Post office parking lot next door, you will be towed. And the lots identified for the restaurant are tight and almost always full.

I am student at UNM, and I come to this restaurant at least once a week to get one of their pizzas or pasta. I always come in with my boyfriend, and we spend around $12 on food to split, and we still have more to take home. LOVE SAGGIOS!

I ate here for the first time tonight after hearing radio ads for this place for years. I ordered the four meat calzone with a basil crust, and it was delicious - one of the best calzones I've ever eaten. My husband ordered a couple of large slices of sausage pizza, and they were tasty. He has a big appetite, and these slices were big enough to satisfy him. The food was great. I would probably give this place five stars were it not for the $1.90 pizza toppings and the deafening dining room. It was hard to hear the orders being called out, although they do display them on a TV screen to help with that problem. And two bucks per topping seems a little steep to me. Being right across the street from UNM, this place is full of hipsters and college kids, but even so, I plan to return there soon. The calzone was worth being surrounded by guys in skinny jeans.

This place has good food at reasonable prices, fun atmosphere & is a great place to meet w/ friends or to watch the game/race/etc. Pizza is very good but they also have good pasta dishes, desserts & beer. Parking can take patience during busy school or sporting events.

this place is sick. fun vibe right across from the UNM campus, it's a little kitschy but not in an overly tacky way. as soon as i walked in the first time i fell in love. the mural on the wall is awesome- you can look at it over and over again and find something new every time. now to the food; saggios serves my favorite kind of food ever so I'm totally biased- pizza pasta and salads- and everything is top notch DELICIOUS. the pizza is great, they load every slice with huge yummy toppings, and the pasta comes hot and creamy and perfect. haven't tried a salad yet but they look awesome. i love to just come, get some food and hang out for a bit, it's a very relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere. they also have some great beers on tap and a simple wine list to pair with your food. if you want a cool, laid back spot for lunch or a fun dinner date you have to check out saggios. if this is the kind of food you like, you won't be disappointed. *reference my tip: the water on tap tastes weird so buy a bottle!

The best pizza joint in town, everyone in the family works there, the little old man with the hat at the front started the Empire. My husband worked there back when he was a kid. You cant go wrong, and no one to me can touch this place when it comes to Pizza.

But the real winner of the meal was the clear under dog. Half sandwich, half salad. The meal was served on a long rectangular plate which beautifully divided the two portions; each large enough on it's own to feed a hungry diner. The complimentary salad was Cesar with a truly savory taste. The shaved cheese, not crumbled or powdered, was welcome on my tongue and added a bite of texture that nearly made the frankly sub-par croutons unnecessary. The balance of dressing in the salad was there although the lettuce was not quite as crisp as I hoped (perhaps the salad and dressing was pre-mixed?) The Sandwich was spectacular. No, not the filling which was actually quite ordinary blocks of chicken with perhaps under seasoned picante', but the bread itself. The Picante Chicken Panini was not what I expected. It was not two slices of grilled bread but something remarkable. Rather, it was a house-made dough folded over the ingredients. The dough itself was perfectly moist and flavorful and worth the meal itself. It had a spiciness that was right on ball. For the full review see marcishungry.blogspot.co…

Good 'till the end. The environment was awesome. It had so much energy being close to campus and had great mural art of all kinds. The Mediterranean pizza with Canadian bacon substituted for the salami was pretty darn good. We also got a huge salad. The salad tasted kind of stale. Then when we got down to the bottom of the dish, we found a big beetle dead on his back. The manager was VERY gracious and apologetic and refunded our salad. It grossed us out, but honestly, with all the leafy greens, it probably could have happened to any restaurant.

Saggio's is, on the whole, a really good restaurant. The pizza is very good, although no the best. Sometimes a little too crusty. The slices are enormous and a good value for the price. They usually offer great combo deals, especially at the venue in the UNM Student Union Building. There is a bar and a whole host of televisions in one room, so it's great for watching games - especially rugby. However, it gets very crowded so finding a seat is very difficult. The rest of the menu is good, with some exceptions. The calzones are delicious, and they are enormous - the lunch ones are more of a human size. Three normal adults could probably fill themselves on one dinner calzone. I think the salads tend to be a little limp. The pasta is not terribly good in my opinion, their alfredo sauce is too runny and not quite creamy enough, and their marinara sauce tastes strange. The noodles usually seem to be cooked weird. I don't recommend it for breakfast at all, though.

Definitely consistent. I've never had a bad experience here. My favorite menu item is the Shrimp Diablo - shrimp, pasta, sauce, extra spicy. There is nothing spectacular about it, but if you want solid Italian fare at decent prices, this is your place. Sometimes they are very, very busy depending on UNM traffic. Pizza is amazing. Beer is overpriced.

Many of my co-workers love this place, I've always been mystified as to why. The best reason I can come up with is because they went to UNM across the street and have fond memories of going here as starving college students. The pizza is not to my taste at all, with rubbery cheese, lots of grease (bad grease, not good grease) and a ho-hum crust. What non-pizza items I've tried are also all ho-hum or outright bad. The food tends to take forever, whether or not they are busy, and the I'd rather drive across town to get Mario's than drive the one mile from my house to go to Saggios.

Pizza is a meal that varies in quality and taste as much as the hamburger. The customizable nature of such dishes, that I consider American comfort foods, make critiquing them almost imposable. The only true thing we can say is whether the service atmosphere and ingredient quality is up to standard. Saggios is fantastic!!!

  • LJ E.

I'm just not that into Saggios....to me there are so many better, cheaper options around. Sorry Saggios, it's not me, it's you. The food is kinda greasy and average...I prefer il Vicino or slice parlor if I'm wanting pizza in the area. It's also super loud and weirdly broken up. It's a disjointed experience. Lots of people come here to watch games though...so if loud atmospheres are your thing, maybe this is the place for you. The servings are huge....just FYI.

After a long hiatus from Saggios, my wife and I wonder why we were gone so long. With the abundance of great pizza joints around Albuquerque, finding one to be loyal to is hard to do. Sorry Saggios, please don't hate me. Funny thing is "I've never tried the pizza" at Saggios, although I've heard it's pretty good. I go to Saggios for the calzones!! The four meat (pepperoni, Italian sausage, ham and bacon I believe) to be more precise. I've only eaten calzones at a couple places but Saggios has the best hands down! I got my calzone with a green chile crust, which was new to me because the last time I was there they didn't have it, it was a nice surprise! Green chile on anything makes everything better. Just be forewarned, it's spicy! Here's my negative- please understand the calzone deserve 5 stars for taste but it is GREASY! Man oh man, eating one I can just feel my arteries clogging and that ain't good. Seeing the orangey/ yellow grease build up is not very slightly, I'm just saying. Every time I see that grease I can't help but think of the chaos that's about to befall my body. Sadly I'm not sure if there is any way around it. I'm going back and forth between 3 or 4 stars but I'm going to lean on the side of taste and the calzone is very good in my opinion. Plus they are big enough to feed two people! Just know this, you'll be in the gym for about a day and a half to work out the calzone you just ate. Enjoy!

In college at UNM many moons ago I remember loving the slices and obsessing over the basil cream and tomato pasta. Well 20 years later and I came into town with my daughter and after hitting my favorite spots, Saggios popped into my head. Even after all this time that sauce and pasta was still the same amazing stuff I loved from the 90's!!! Love the cheese pizza with some ranch and definitely get the linguine with basil cream AND tomatoes. It comes with a chewy piece of ciabatta. Oh and the pasta is even better the next day. Add a little crushed red pepper and mmmm mmmm mmmm.

I was in here around 3:15 today to pick up an order that my girlfriend had placed online. Unfortunately, the order did not go through. I was in a crunch for time, but completely understanding that the malfunction of the machine was (in that moment) out of her hands. The woman (whom I just confirmed is Molly) was awesome. She did everything right as to provide me with, yes, legendary customer service. She had me all taken care of in no time and assured that they'd get the machine checked out (we've never had a problem before). I left feeling happier than my stomach would be after devouring that calzone. This girl needs some props. She (and of course the food) is definitely the reason I will be coming back!

WOW WOW WOW!! Best pizza I've had West of the Rockies! I got the pepperoni with green chilies (always green chilies :) and it was just amazing. The crust was nice and crisp, toppings very yummy. I'm heading back there in a week and can't wait to eat there again!

Went to Saggios for 'old times'. Used to go to Saggios at least once a week while I was attending UNM. Pizza is even better than I remember it, and they have a great selection of local beers. I love the atmosphere, as it is very 'random'. They could use an upgrade on their TVs, but I do enjoy the abundance of them. I really like Saggios!

Ah...for an ABQ cannoli they don't do bad. I've reviewed better Italian--what is the district called? The lamp post district or whatever. People--it's in front of the university--what are you expecting.

Stopped in here because it's close to campus. My Penne Green Chili Chicken was spicy, creamy and delicious. My friend's Caribbean Shrimp Salad was HUGE (we should have shared it). Pick-up process is a bit confusing. Will be back to try different things!

The best Italian place. In my opinion Saggios beats all the other Italian restaurants. The artwork, ambience, sports bar, restaurant and delicious cheesecakes & not to forget cannoli..

  • Howie K.

I'd been there several times before, but I will never forget the day I ordered my first calzone from Saggios. When I went to the counter to pick up the plate I immediately went into minor shock: I was absolutely not worthy. And sure enough as I stuck my knife into the belly of that beast and the steam wafted past my nostrils, as I gazed into the carcass that was stretchy cheese, tomato sauce and probably six different meats, I thought Now How in the Hell am I Going to Eat All of This? It was an entire pizza, folded over and baked, for just One Guy. I felt like more than a glutton. I felt like a thief. Here I'd ordered just one meal and they'd given me four. I dug in and, sure enough, managed to down one quarter of the bastard. This is a memory from, oh, probably 1997. The footage still rolls in my cortex. Shortly thereafter the restaurant received a major remodel, which is still worth a visit today: a fountain, portraits of famous Italians, every inch of the place has character. But the food never changed. While I recently noted that they serve a smaller version of the classic calzone, the original beast is still on the menu. Nowdays I stick with the salads, which are tremendous in their own right but still, um, humane. I think the pizza's quite good, nothing to write home about but in the upper echelon of ABQ choices. Pastas, panini and focaccia rarely catch my interest because the specials above the register are always innovative, definitely consider them. And then there's the cannoli. It'll shut ya up. Big lovers of futbol, the Lobos, and UNMs ever-changing student populace, Saggios is one of those classic University restaurants that everybody recognizes as an old friend, a place to grab a booth, open a book, feed the family or flirt on a first date. Well, maybe a second date. So go ahead, even if you aren't a cash strapped student, save yourself some coin and just split a calzone. You'll find the other half in the fridge tomorrow.

Saggios is such a great restaurant! They have such a great variety of Italian food, and the cannolis are to die for! The portions are very large. I would not recommend get a full size salad even for two people unless that is all you are getting. The pizza slices are HUGE and one is (usually) plenty. They always have the MLB and NBA games on. I would 100% recommend the pizza and cannolis!

Saggios is a great NY Italian restaurant in the university area. They have a great selection of pizza, sandos, pasta, salad and beer! Dough is awesome and is a perfect medium/Neapolitan crust. Sorry Dions but Saggios beats you in pizza quality... A tip I would give is to order a pizza or calzone- slices are made on already cooked cheese pizza and then tossed in a warming oven- quicker but you loose some of the quality as well... My favorite dishes include the green chile penne alfredo, tilapia, and of course the pizza/ calzones. They have excellent dessert as well. Cheesecakes, tiramisu, and the highly coveted cannoli. Saggios has the ambiance of a sports bar, and the tv room along with the frank Sinatra music can get overwhelmingly loud. Don't expect to come here for a quiet meal. It can also be very packed on certain nights- so food may take a while- my advise is order ahead or come back when it's less packed. The inside is designed with great detail, from murals on the walls to statues of the sultan of swat( Babe Ruth). This place is truly a unique gem in the heart of Albuquerque.

Saggio's is a typical University area bar/restaurant. There are multiple rooms, kinda cobbled together. It is a weird mix of pizza and sports bar, but somehow it works. The beer selection is respectable, with multiple local brews. And their pizzas are pretty dang large, and tasty. Best pizza in town? No, probably not. But they are really very good. On the sports bar front, there are something like a billion TVs in here. Most are good sized too, though not huge. They seem to show all the Lobos games, as expected. I'd hate to see this place really packed with college students - I'm not sure how you would move! But on a not-so-busy night, or for lunch, you could do a lot worse!

Meh. I was disappointed after reading the reviews. Not sure what pizza they had, but ours was mediocre. Went on a busy Saturday with two kids. My husband and ordered a two different salads. Both were good and came out quickly. But it went downhill from there. We'd ordered a small pepperoni pizza and a slice of margherita. It took 40 minutes. The kids were going crazy starving. By the time it got there, you'd think they would have inhaled it. Nope. They ate a few pieces and both said it was blah. My slice of margherita, which I'd ordered because that type is usually lighter with fresh ingredients. Nope. It was overly cooked, drenched in cheesy oil, soggy, and lacked any flavor. Would not recommend. Won't go back.

The food is okay. The desserts ok. If you're looking for a fairly priced place with good atmosphere and decent food. Why not?

I really like the atmosphere, but it can get really loud in there when busy. The staff is pretty rude, very hurried and rushed when taking my order. The pizza is good, large and flavorful slices. The calzone I had was only okay though.

I love Saggios! My "usual" is their veggie calzone plus feta with a few sides of ranch. Their calzones are so good and stuffed with fillings. You don't have to fish around for the veggies- they are packed in there. I haven't been disappointed in anything I ordered from there. The meatball calzone is like a meatball sub but better. The pizza is great and the Tuscano pasta salad is a must.

I'd like to start this review off by saying I just got off the phone with Saggios and am still a little frustrated. With that being said, Saggios has decent pizza. I like the pie style over their thin crust. I'm a student at UNM so I've dined her many times and I occasionally call in an order to go. This evening I dial up Saggios to place a phone over the phone. There is a recording saying, "You can now order online at saggios.com ," and I was ecstatic. I hung up immediately and attempted to go to the website. Welp, the website wasn't working. I tired multiple times and it was an epic fail. I called back and placed the order and asked to pay over the phone. I've paid over the phone multiple times and the lady said, "well we don't really let people pay over the phone. We like to have the card here." OK, I get it but BE CONSISTENT!!!!! Please, be consistent. It's pretty easy. You've let me pay over the phone the last 3 times I've called an order in and now you say. "not really?" Anyway, Saggios is ok. I like the pizza but I'm not enthused about their customer service. Just say'in.

Owner won't put the Free UFC fight on. Thought we'd settle for baseball but no one available to put it on. We literally watched paint dry, no seriously, the tv was on an infomercial about a paint sprayer lol. Our food sat at counter forever getting cold, we had to go up and find out what was taking so long! Service terrible, and the the place wasn't even busy.

Tiramisu was amazing!!!! We had the baked chicken cannelloni for dinner....was delicious. The plate was quite greasy...which was the only negative. Decor is fun and different...felt like we were on vacation.

A couple of friends and I came in late the other night and ordered a coupe of different thing and everything tastes great! I got the single slice of the Mediterranean pizza (I think) $4.95, as well as a salad and bother were super good. The pizza was huge and I couldn't finish all of the salad. My sister got the sweet and spicy chicken penini, which was also reallllyyy good. And one of the mother friends got the Italian calzon which was the bomb! Definitely one of my favorite pizza places.

We pop in from time to time it's right next to the Frontier another favorite. My wife and I have been watching our figure and have found the veggie calzone to fit the bill between the two of us, we order it with the rosemary wheat crust and an extra marinara. It makes a filling but nutritious lunch. We like to hit during the off times, if you want a more quiet experience try the sports bar area to the south end of the building. Also parking can be a pain in the UNM area, behind the restaurant is a bunch of spaces for these local businesses. If you park in the back lot be careful pulling out of that alley way on Central, there's a lot of foot traffic and it's easy to pull forward to try to see oncoming traffic as people are crossing. Hope you enjoy your stop in like we do.

I'll return to a place that provides excellent customer service and food that is not great. I will consider returning if food is spectacular and service is good but when service is bad and food is mediocre then I'm out. Food leaves a lot to be desired. Service is not existent. While they are not terrible there are much better options.

They get slammed at lunch and dinner so order ahead, show up when they open, or wait... Other than that it is great. Crazy cool location and interior... Good food, large portions that you can share and not bad prices for what you get. Try this place out and thank me later!

I've been coming to Saggio's/Nunzio's for years, today is the visit I leave disappointed with my meal. Saggio's no longer makes their own ranch dressing, they've also changed their crust of their Gourmet pizzas. I haven't been here in several months and now I won't be back again, sad day, long time customer saying good bye.

Big slice: not shabby, pretty tasty actually.....and it's BIG. Lasagna: enough for two, after you also share the salad that comes with it. not cheap but you certainly get your money's worth. mildly noisy, but you didn't come here for peace & quiet, right? Bar has plenty of TV's, dining side has live italian music, so that's worth a few more pennies.... all in all, a solid 4 stars. wait is short, food is good, belly is happy.

I have to say that this place is my favorite pizza place in ABQ now that we have discovered it. My fav: Gnochi with basil cream sauce (and had leftovers for breakfast thank you), and my 19yr old son's fav is 2 slices with Italian sausage, beef, and pepperoni. You can get numerous pasta with various sauces, including gluten free pasta. I sometimes get the Saggio's special, a slice with pepperoni and an IPA beer for $5.99.

TOO MUCH BREAD! PEELINGS STILL ON GREEN CHILE! (which is annoying if you're a New Mexican who knows the In's and Out's of CHILE) Also, Customer service sucks. They don't want you take the parmesean and pepper dispensers to your table yet the employees get upset that you're asking for pre-packaged parmesean that you CAN take to your table. Cool atmosphere, but their staff is not. If you absolutely have no where else to go, get a beer, some ravioli and salad. Cheers

Saggio's has improved the quality of their salads! We had pizza and salad today and we were pleasantly surprised. I've refused to eat at Saggio's for many months because of their horrible salads & management not caring about the rotten cucumbers in the salads. Today, all of the food was great! It's still noisy but the food was worth it.

*Stands atop soapbox You don't need to be in NY, Boston, Chicago or Italy to get good pizza! You don't! Although I've had great pizza at all these places, some of the best pizza I've had have been in the least likely of places such as Niagara Falls, Ontario; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and...well, right here in New Mexico. That's right, New Mexico has good pizza, so don't believe the haters that come along and say that the pizza here is a shadow of that in some other cool place they lived, or are from or passed through. Granted, I must also say that certain restaurants invite criticism on themselves when they say _____-style pizza, as this is just allowing the pompous among us to criticize and compare. *Comes down from soapbox Having said all that, Saggio's is not the best in town, but it makes a noble effort. Truthtfully, I actually like their green chile and pepperoni pie, and I am far from offended when I end up eating here. HOWEVER, I do wish the crust wasn't so doughy---I hate thick crusts beside Chi-town style--- and the sauce and other ingredients are all of the Domino's/Papa John's variety. In fact, eating here reminds me very much of eating at either of those major chains; the food is tasty, but not in a unique way at all. Besides the pizza, I appreciate the Marble on draft and the flat-screens that show European soccer.

This is an outstanding 505 venue. The place screams Albuquerque. We've been coming here for as long as I can remember. The pizza is really good both by the slice and a take home pie, pasta is always a safe dish when you need a little more in your belly. I know they have salad, but I've never ordered it. Plus when you're all filled up, you can always fit a little more in with some really good cheesecake. Also a fun place to catch any Lobo game provided you can find a place to sit. If you are in the area this is a must visit place.

Saggios is an ABQ staple. It offeres a very large menu of pizzas, salads, pastas, sandwiches and more! The pizza has a yummy bready crust, the calzones are huge and the topping options are endless. I have never had a bad meal at Saggios.

Maybe the best non-green chile related food that I have found in ABQ and it was found in a very unique place. Knew things would be good when I saw the statue of Babe Ruth waiting by the interior entrance. The outside sign special was chicken parmesan over spaghetti with a side cesar salad. This was a huge portion and woth the $9.99 for sure. The cutlet was breaded to perfection and served over a huge bed of pasta and sauce. Plenty of good marinara and a large cesar with shaved parmesan and croutons made for a great meal. Cool ordering system with the buzzer for takeout and it took about 15 minutes on a pretty busy lunchtime at about 1pm. Would have liked to try more, but you know, don't want to push my luck in the Duke City.

We have a new name for this place-"Spaghettios". I ordered spaghetti and meatballs here and it had the most awful frozen food out/of the freezer over cooked damp noodle flavor I have ever experienced. Do yourself a favor and go buy a Stouffer's frozen entree-it will taste better and be cheaper. They charged me $8.00 for food that had never been loved. The other hilarious thing was that it came with a side roll that was ice cold, they could have threw it in the oven for even 2 minutes to heat it up, I saved the roll and threw it to the pigeons on my way out. Now someone on here said that the calzones are the best anywhere. This had to come from the mouth of someone that has never had a calzone anywhere else. We trusted this yelper's review and ordered ourselves one of the calzones that came with four different types of meat. The meat was all gray inside and tasted really old and cheap. I don't know where these people are getting their meats from, but I have a feeling a lot of people walk out of here with a destiny of possible food poisoning. I get that people go here because it's close to campus and the pizza probably is decent enough to get you through a meeting with your fellow grad students, chased down by a beer. The problem with places like this is that they try to have WAY to many things on their menu, and the quality of everything goes down. Also, the people that work here don't seem to care much about the food or you, so again you have a plate of $8 food served to you without any love at all with a cold roll thrown on the side. I think Albuquerque should demand more of it's food establishments-food can be fresh, there are grocery stores everywhere. Steer clear of anything from here besides a slice of pizza-they don't know what they are doing in the kitchen. The other thing is that there are TV's everywher ein this place-which is cool-but the things playing on the tv's are totally geared towards the male gender-sports, car racing, girls in bikini's.

Love this place. I practically went here every day when I was attending UNM's Architecture school. Even though I moved away, every time I visit family in Albuquerque I have to make a stop at Saggios. Great pizza!

The food is inconsistent. When it's prepared correctly and they have the ingredients to make the dish properly, it is good. The problem is that they often run out of key components in the dish and fail to inform the customer. Also, there seems to be no standardization for toppings on salads or pizza. Sometimes the portions are hearty; other times they are meager. The atmosphere is fun and they have a couple good beers on tap. Their desserts are yummy.

a pretty cool college hangout with tasty pizza and what would appear to be delicious pasta dishes (huge servings, from what i've seen). i just popped in to order a slice of pizza and really missed coming here from back in the day when my little sister used to bring me. friendly staff, clean environment and again, very tasty pizza! it gets super packed super quick, so make sure you bring your patience with you, but the line rips through pretty quick.

yum, yum, yum. get in my belly! I recommend their huge, cheap slices of green chile cheese pizza. Interesting pop culture decor. Downside: they no longer sell pitchers of beer and their drink refills are extra. If you're in the mood for some New Mexican/Italian fusion, my fiance loves the green chile alfredo penne bake. So good! (We love green chile!)

I wish I had a chance to try the pizzas, pastas or seafood dishes, but alas, I only had time for a cannoli. I like the restaurant, and the service was very good. It was the perfect place to rest and relax after a long day of work.

The food is here pretty good, but it takes a long time to come out. I tried a pepperoni and mushroom calzone, and while the first few bites were amazing, it was nothing but a greasy mess towards the crust. I much preferred the ravioli one of my dining mates had, it was soft and warm with a tangy marinara sauce. The ravioli came with a roll of some kind. Not sure why, it tasted almost like sourdough, and was lukewarm. We sat in the room off to the side, which my sister named "The Room of Distractions". Good if you're there for a game or event, but too loud and busy if you're just there for dinner.

Let me be specific in that this place is indeed an Italian restaurant, but you do not have to wait to be seated, and there is no waiter service. You approach the counter, place your order, and they take your name. I ordered a portobello calzone with a basil-pesto crust, and bread sticks with tomato sauce. Please note they actually let you *pick* the type of crust you want for your calzone; choices are traditional, rosemary whole wheat, basil pest, and chile. There were two dinning areas. The main area where the counter is located is pretty low key. The second area, an off shoot from the main is very spacious with TV screens everywhere so people can watch their favorite sporting events while noming on some Italian food. My friend and I found a seat by the window and admired the interesting decor of the restaurant. The seats were made out of yard benches with pastel patches of paint, and the tables were laminated also with pastel-ish colors. There were fake roman/greek columns and statues everywhere, murals, and LCD tvs hanging from the ceiling that displayed your name and told you when your order was ready. The piece de resistance--a water fountain set just a few feet from the front counter on the way to the kitchen. We waited quite some time for my order. At least 20 minutes. We waited so long I was convinced they were importing it from Italy itself. However, when my order was finally called I understood immediately why it took so long to make the damn thing--it was made to order! There is no way in hell they pull their calzones out of a box and run them through a microwave! The crust appeared to be handmade to me, and was a beautiful golden brown. Not to mention it was HUGE! HUGE I tell you! One calzone is easily a meal for two people!! From what I tasted the ingredients they used also tasted fresh. Best of all, it didn't taste too salty, or sweet. That is usually my biggest complaint of Italian food that isn't properly done--too salty, or to sweet, sometimes too bland. My calzone was none of the those things. It was absolutely delicious! The bread sticks on the other hand?? Those guys were a little bland, even after dipping them in tomato sauce. They need a bit of garlic salt or something to liven the up. The dessert my friend and I had was also a bit lacking. I tried a chocolate cheesecake cannoli which didn't taste nearly as good as it looked. My friend had a piece of cake which was made out of candy. It was definitely a notch above the cheesecake cannoli, but still kind of...odd. Despite the average bread sticks and desserts, I have to give this place four stars. That calzone was just amazing!! It was obviously made with time and care, and I could totally taste the difference. I want to come back to this place so I can try their pizzas. If their pizzas are as fantastic as I think they are, I will definitely upgrade my review form four to five stars! Good Italian is hard to find, but this place comes pretty close!

The food was good, Once we got it. We ordered a pizza and a pasta dish. It took over half an hour and even then we got the past dish first. The pizza dish came out awhile later and was not fully cooked and had extra thick sauce. Ordinarily, extra sauce would be good, but when you're talking pesto, 4 cheese, chicken it was a little much. it appeared that the best options to order were a slice of pizza, which was super huge, and a salad that was huge. The food was yummy, but the service was blech!

this place is good. I've been here a few times for football games, dinner with the fam, or just to grab a slice of heaven. the pizza is good, greasy and worth the wait, if the lines are long, it goes by quick! the beer is pricey by the glass so get a pitcher instead. this place has a huge mural and weired statues of famous figuers. Its got a lot going on. check it out!

I am a mondo Saggio's fan. I find their ingredients to be better than Dion's, and it's dining rooms are fun without being overwhelming. Definitely a unique place, and always a good bet to have a good crowd for any important sports match. Also, their Italian sausage I find especially delicious.

Saggio's is a little university area gem. If you're looking for what it offers, you can't go wrong. The regular pizzas are really good, although the couple times we've ordered one, I've noticed that the crust is a little thick for my New-York-style rearing. Their smaller gourmet pizzas, though--with choice of crust ingredients (rosemary wheat and basil pesto, for example)--are simply outstanding, and I think the crust is wonderful. I've had their eggplant parmesan painini several times, and it is outstanding. For being known as a pizza place, they have a wonderful selection of pasta dishes. My wife ordered a shrimp pasta dish and loved it, keeping in mind that this is not a five-star restaurant. There are two separate dining areas for whatever mood suits you. The first, closer to the counter and kitchen, is reminiscent of an Italian villa, replete with a fountain. The other section is more sports-bar oriented, with open seating offering unrestricted views of the televisions all along the walls of this area. This is a great place for enjoying some food and some pitchers of beer with friends, especially if there's a noteworthy sporting event being televised.

Saggio's has good food, good prices, and the location is perfect if you're hanging around the university area. The pizza is great, and their sandwiches are outstanding. Just be careful about how much time you set aside when you go - it's a very popular restaurant, and if you make the mistake of ordering individual pizza slices instead of a whole pizza, you will be waiting a LONG time.

Don't neglect the calzones for the pizza at this place. There are a variety of delicious calzone options or you can create your own. I recommend take-out so as to avoid the noise.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
