Normally, Mimi's would garner a 3.5, but because our server was super nice and the place was very clean, I'll give them the bump. Mimi's is the type of place that everyone's grandma would really enjoy. It's a canned (i.e. chain) French-style restaurant that's not haute cuisine. Fashioned like a little house on the outside, and full of French knick knacks inside, this place makes one feel cozy and slightly sentimental for no reason whatsoever. Food is all-American, with some French touches here and there. Croissants, beignets, croque mouisseur/madame, that type of thing. They serve wine, because c'mon it's French-ish. For what it's worth the burgers I had were very good. I also liked the tomato soup. Very clean inside and out. Whoever runs this place seems to understand that their white collar clientele from the surrounding office spaces will want a tidy place to enjoy their food.

Wow! Management needs to take control of this place. I rarely if ever make a negative post on Yelp but this operation is a complete mess. Daniel the Host was the only person in the restaurant doing anything to meet the guests needs our waitress (Norma) was non-existent for the first 20 minutes and we only saw her a total of three times the entire time we were here. We asked to speak to a manager and were told "none of them made it in today". Meh is the right word for Mimi's. I think their food is bland and I think they are the chain restaurant that tries to feel more unique and fails at being quirky and fun like an independent restaurant but also fails at having the consistently above average service, food etc that makes a chain work. I have visited Mimi's in various states and have eaten at the ABQ Mimi's many times over the years. Today (Labor Day holiday) I took my 2 teenage daughters to lunch and the restaurant was about 1/3 full. The hostess went to seat us in a far back corner booth next to the bathrooms. I asked if we could sit at one of the tables in the open area instead of "in the corner by the bathroom". With attitude, she pointed to a couple of tables and I said sure, either one is great. I observed the hostess walk into the kitchen and tell 3-4 servers something. They all turned to look at me. Later on, an elderly lady made the same request and the hostess said, of course - gave me a dirty look, and seated the woman in the open area near us. What's with that? Our server acted as though I was going to be a real problem and gave us the worst service. For example, it took 5 mins to provide us with hot water for tea, then other tables (twice) that came in 10-15 minutes after were served their food. Our food took 35 minutes and the only apology that came was when she put it in front of us saying they were short staffed. (A salad, turkey dinner (all pre-made, I'm sure) and a Ciabatta sandwich.) Funny how it was empty in there and other people were getting their food while the waitresses talked about ADHD, child support, etc. But it was "short staffed kitchen problem"??? So bottom line was that the waitress that decided to join in with her hostess friend and slow roll our order received $0.00 and a note. If you are going to pull this BS then I highly recommend you don't play it all out in front of the "un-suspecting" guests. We will never return.

I don't like to give bad reviews but this one has to be done. I took my daughter and her friend here for her birthday. They ordered chicken pot pies. What came out were pies with the chicken on the side. The cook forgot to put chicken in the "chicken" pot pies and the server had the nerve to bring it to us. He said to cut open the pie and insert the grilled chicken. I'm not sure if this was the reason for the bland taste or if it's because they don't taste good anyway. He did give us a free desert for her birthday but charged us full price for the Pot pies. I laughed about it and paid it in full because I didn't want to put a damper on my daughters night out. I probably won't go back.

Sorry Mimi's..... I typically really like you, but today was just meh. Service was very friendly though....and attentive. But my eggs benedict was not tasty at all. It was actually pretty gross. The english muffins seemed like they were soaked in greasy butter. The hollandaise sause was very bland. The ham was kinda cooked soft. And the coffee did not taste good. And also, for a Monday morning around 8:00am... the restaurant was pretty much empty. I think there was only two of us customers in the store. Oh well...

My mom has been trying to get me to try this place for a while and my husband and I had to got REI, so we tried this place since it wasn't too far from there. The restaurant has a chain-feel (which it is one, so duh). It has an American-French decor, but it's not done very well. It feels like Christy Mae's meets Applebees, honestly. I had the Eggs Florentine Benedict with the Hollandaise sauce on the side. It wasn't too bad. The potatoes had too much garlic salt, but otherwise my meal was satisfactory. My husband had a side of sausage links (2) and a side of fruit. The side of fruit was very disappointing-a slice of honeydew, a slice of cantaloupe, and two orange slices. I don't know how much that cost, but considering it's the peak of summer right now, some seasonal fruit (berries) should be included. Boo. The service was fine-nothing remarkable, but not bad at all. Overall this place was okay. I don't have any desire to go back, but probably will try it with my mother some time, maybe for lunch. We tried to go for lunch on Mother's Day and there was a 45 minute wait. We went on Sunday morning, 9:30 am or so and I expected it to be packed, but it wasn't at all. I keep expecting places to be crowded like they were in the DC area and they rarely are. I guess that's good (but always makes me wary of the quality).

This place has gone downhill. Now granted the hill was not that high in the first place...the portion sizes have gone down and the prices are up. Service was fine, but finding hair in our food was not. Stay away unless you are looking to pay a lot for a little.

First off, I'm glad I gave this place a second chance. The first time we went there (probably 2 or so years ago), we waited 10 minutes at the front (no other customers were there) and no one came to help or seat us, so we left. We tried this place again about 4 months ago after we heard some very good reviews. The food is great! I had the quiche and my husband had the chicken meal that they have. The prices are decent (They have a 3 course meal for like $13). I went there and picked up a quart of their tomato basil soup (it's amazing). Unfortunately, on my way home, it tipped over and spilled all over the passengers side of my car. I went back to buy a new quart (I still wanted it, after all), and the hostess gave me the new quart of soup for free (with a smile). I've heard the breakfast here is good, although I haven't tried it yet.

My wife and I dined here because it was the only restaurant in the area without an hour wait. I found out why in the end. It looked like a decent restaurant so we decided to give it a shot. The appetizer actually wasn't bad, we had quesadilla. I ordered a steak and my wife ordered a salad, this relatively small meal w/drinks were $50! I asked for a medium steak and got well, well done and my wife said the salad was just fine. I had to ask a waitress of oppurtunity (b/c mine disappeared) for steak sauce just to muscle this overcooked piece of meat down. Honestly, I had a better (and cheaper) dining experience at a Golden Corral Buffet.

This used to be my favorite restaurant in Albuquerque, hands down. We used to come here all of the time and always enjoyed it. I am signing up for this site just to post this review. I love food, all food, any food. ...just not this food, anymore. My fiance and I went on a date to Mimi's for Valentine's this year. Upon sitting down on a Friday night, it was completely empty and overstaffed. The only one of those staff members who even bothered to notice they actually had a customer in their empty restaurant was our sweet waitress, who I feel so bad for. I should have bolted at the site of an empty place on Valentine's. The bread, which used to be amazing, came out stone hard and cold. It tasted like it had been cooked days ago. When we asked for better bread (it was so hard you had to break it, and this was the soft, sweet bread I used to love), it came back microwaved and still hard. We gave up. We got great wine- the only highlight. I ordered the chicken chop salad. It was covered in so much cilantro that was nearly inedible- and I love cilantro. I was actually happy for a cilantro dressed salad before it came out. That was the only flavor in the whole thing. The chicken was the same chicken my work sells- cold, processed and ground up, pre-sliced. The orange slices were not fresh and were also crunchy. When I asked the manager to remake it because it was so bad, I asked about the ingredients. He lied and told me that the chicken was freshly sliced and had just been made to order (it was ice cold, which made that one obvious). I then told him I work for the company that makes that chicken (it's disgusting and how they make it is even worse), he recanted and said, yes, it's that chicken. No apology for the lie. He then tried to charge me for two salads, even though I had only taken three bites of the very large salad. Bad customer service there. The second salad had several ingredients missing and was worse than the first. The only thing on it was crunchy oranges and dressing. Nothing else. My fiance had ordered the Bistro steak. It came well done and it was ordered rare. It tasted like leather and was barely able to be cut. The potatoes were runny and leaking all over the plate and FROZEN in the middle. Gross, runny, half frozen potatoes that the manager swore were made fresh, even though we held up the center frozen part for him to see. The veggies were extremely crunchy- not crispy, crunchy. Probably from a microwave. We didn't bother reordering that one. We paid for only our wine and gave the poor waitress a good tip. Apparently, they had switched owners and the new owners only cared about how much more they can make off of a popular spot instead of caring about the food.

Disgusting. I recently visited Albuquerque from the Bay Area and wanted to go to Mimi's as I had great experiences here in Northern California. It seems the lack of quality and care in presenting fresh food- check that- edible food- falls on the general manager in the end. In having a sandwich with rotted lettuce that was laced with black slime, I was appalled. How can food leave the kitchen like this? When I complained, the acting manager was understanding, however, there is no excuse as this is a Board of Health Issue. I would avoid this Mimi's as it seems there bad and careless management allows rotted food to be served. This restaurant should be shut down.

I'm a huge fan of diners. This is a genuine diner. It's huge (almost too big) and always has open seats. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place long ago seeing as how I discovered this diamond in the rough a few months back. My go-to meal is the 5 way grilled cheese and a side of tomato soup with lemonade. It's quick and it's never once disappointed me. Truth be told, I'm kinda hooked on it. They recently changed their menu and deleted a few items that I was a fan of but I'm no hater. They do a great quick lunch offering of half a sandwich with a cup of soup or a salad with a half cup of soup served in 15m or less. I'm a fan! Their muffins are really good but I'm not a huge fan of muffins in general so I'm throwing this in for people that are. Bottom line, good diner, really good place to stop for lunch (all of their sandwhiches are slammin), and I'd even go back for a coffee and a muffin (if I was in the mood for a muffin, of course).

Disappointing. Our first experience at Mimi's Cafe was for breakfast a few weeks ago. I had the Crab Cake Florentine Benedict and my boyfriend had the Eggs Florentine Benedict. Both items came with red skin potatoes and juice. My Crab Cake Florentine Benedict was overly salty, overly fishy, and didn't even have an English muffin, which I thought was pretty weird for an eggs benedict. The red skin potatoes had too much salt too and the orange juice that comes with the meal was SMALL. The Eggs Florentine Benedict was okay, but nothing we'd go back for. Service was mediocre. Our waiter didn't really come back to check on us until we were finished eating. This place is super expensive for the horrible food we paid for. Will most likely not be going back.

I reviewed this restaurant when it first opened when I was the ABQ Journal's restaurant critic. It was meh then, and meh now. I ate there today for a business meeting, the first time since it opened. The turkey burger was a pre-made, frozen patty with little to recommend it. The garnish that came with it was shredded ice berg lettuce that had me envying the beautiful baby greens salad of a fellow diner, two anemic tomato slices and 2 boring pickle slices. At least the bacon I ordered with my burger was well cooked and crispy. I will commend the service, which was polite and efficient. But overall, go anywhere else for a better meal.

I was right to give this place many more chances. I have become a muffin addict...delicious! Since my first visit, I've tried the chicken parmigiana, the petite filet, meatloaf, the fish and chips, and my favorite, the mixed berry pain perdeu. Out of that line up, I recommend the fish and chips, the mixed berry pain perdeu, and the petite filet.Yum!

Pretty tasty 3 course meal for $10. French onion soup is delish. Had chicken dijon and it was good and hot. Little scoop of vanilla ice cream w strawberry sauce was small but just enough to end the meal. I guess that's what I like about mimi's...they change up the specials fairly often and keep the french onion soup!

Just had a late lunch at Mimi's cafe. I'm new to the area and just happened upon this restaurant. The meal was wonderful and the prices reasonable. There is large selection of choices on the menu, so I'm certain most would find something to enjoy. The service was excellent. I will definitely return.

I agree with the previous reviewer...the food isn't fantastic but they are kid friendly. Within minutes of being seated...the server brought out a plate with crackers and cheerios on it for my 1 1/2 year old daughter. They must know how impatient kids can get waiting on food! This is one reason alone that we will come back here. My family here has a tradition of doing Friday night dinners and everyone takes turn weekly choosing a different place to eat...no one seemed to have any complaints here, which is always a plus for a party of 10+ !! I got the blackened salmon with mashed potatoes and asparagus, it was good but not great. My hubby got the special 3 course meal for $12.99 with a house salad, BBQ ribs and brownie dessert. He enjoyed his meal and the kids enjoyed their pizza quesadillas and mac n' cheese.

Went here for the first time last night. It was about 6 in the evening and there was hardly anybody in the place, which to be honest, made me nervous. 95% of the patrons there were 55+. We saw only 1 other family with a child. But I agree with other reviews that it is a "kid friendly" place. There are TONS of decorations for kids to look at, and the kids menu is pretty extensive. We started with the fried zucchini parmesan. It was just okay, which bummed me out. The breading was falling off, so it was pretty much just sliced zucchini dipped in ranch or marinara. Red Robin (!!) has better zucc sticks! BUT.....our waiter brought us a basket of 3 kinds of bread: a spice type sweet bread, a carrot-cake type sweat bread and a traditional roll. WOW!!! Good stuff! The bread saved me from being too disappointed about the zucchini. For the main course, I chose a green side salad with the BBQ pork sliders. My hubby chose the 3B buger (Blackened, Bacon and Brie) and our son chose mini corn dogs. My salad was SWIMMING in ranch, so I'll remember to order it on the side next time. The pork sliders (4) were sooooo good! The buns were overflowing with pork! (Unlike my experience with The Elephant Bar's pork sliders) The pork was lean too....YEAH! My hubby's burger looked great. It was not, however, "blackened" in the least bit. He also did not care for the brie cheese. Neither of us has ever had brie, so we're not sure if the rind should be taken off before eating or not.....Mimi's left the rind on and my hubby wasn't thrilled with that. Other than that, he thought it was okay. His meal came with a side of coleslaw which he let me try. It was very light tasting...not overdone with mayo, which was a nice change. Our son liked his mini corn dogs as well. The kids entrees end with an Oreo dirt cup which our son LOVED! I ordered a "petite" apple crisp...................BEST. PART. OF. THE MEAL! It was just enough dessert....and it came with a tiny scoop of real vanilla ice cream! I didn't share with my hubby it was so good! I think the next time we go to Mimi's, we're gonna try breakfast. I wanna see what the fuss is about.

Okay... the food isn't FANTASTIC or anything, but the french onion soup was good... their house wine was cheap and okay... and they are TOTALLY kid friendly! I went with my sister, brother in-law, and their 2 children (1 year old and 2 year old). My 1 yr- old niece LOVED my french onion soup (MORE PLEASE MORE MORE). We ordered them the kids mac and cheese (1 order to be split). They totally split it for us and it came with fruit (which le babies LOVED). Our server was very attentive and listened to all our requests (Can we get the kids water slightly AFTER they get their food so they don't fill up on water?). He executed these ridiculous requests (though truly helpful) to a T! It was great. Brownie dessert = yum. I don't like desserts, but sometimes i need me some FUDGE sauce. Done and DONE!

I have been to the Mimi's Café in Oceanside/Carlsbad, CA several times back in 2003 when we were stationed there. It was one of our favorite places. We tried the one here in ABQ last weekend. It was okay, the French onion soup was just as I remembered it. I had the chicken crepes, I was not very impressed with the flavors. Our server was quick on the tea refills, which made my husband happy. I would probably go back for a lite lunch of the soup and salad. The inside didn't seem as clean as it could have been. I would recommend that they kick that up a notch.

Great place for all occasions. Everything is made fresh and the service is great. Good job!

If you sign up for their Mimi's E-Club, you will get coupons all the time to free meals or buy one get one half off! -- But be sure to print them out! I dont like coming here during a lunch time due to the rush, but its not bad during dinner time.

But overall, go anywhere else for a better meal.

we go here every year for thanksgiving, I am the cook and sometimes want someone to cook for me, great meal for thanksgiving for the price, somewhat of a blue-hair restaurant, great place.....heard brunch is good here, want to try in future

A safe bet for a good, affordable dining experience. Great selection in food, very comfortable/casual environment and did I mention easy on the wallet for the portions you get? Yes!

Fun place for family breakfast or with friends. Busy on the weekends, especially Sunday, buy worth the wait! The muffins are fresh out of the oven and are huge! Sooo good! Great selection and usually good service. The lunch menu is pretty yummo too- great sandwiches and salads!

Haven't eaten yet but after going to 3 other places tonight these guys unlocked their doors and were very gracious hosts. Very pleased with their additudes and hospitality.
