    It warms my heart just knowing that there are places like Mick's out there. It's like the restaurant version of the classic underdog sports movie. You know, born on the wrong side of the tracks, having to overcome a lack of resources and a preconceived bad reputation, having to compete against those that seem to have it all in order to make it, and yet, somehow, they persevere. In Mick's case, they have to deal with a location amid light-industrial zoning that makes them seem like a shit-hole dive. (In actuality, the place is spotless inside and rather charming.) And Mick's certainly does not have the name recognition or advertising presence of your Frontier, Weck's, or Litte Anita's, the kind of places even an out-of-towner might be able to recommend. Yet, somehow they make it. I say 'somehow' but the answer is pretty obvious. They serve startlingly good food at surprisingly low prices. For value for the money, Mick's is incredibly hard to beat. The huevos rancheros here are phenomenal. Wonderfully fresh, perfectly cooked eggs, delicious hash browns, beans rice, and, of course, your choice of red or green. The red chile here is my absolute favorite in town; plenty hot, it actually tastes like peppers without being bitter, sweet, or bland. Perfect. The green chile is also outstanding, with (as another reviewer noticed) a kind of sweet, fruit flavor to it amidst the heat. There are better versions in town (though the restaurants mentioned above don't even come close) but these versions are considerably more expensive. The carne adovado is tender, richly flavorful, and very lean. Of course, it's made even better by having been slow-cooked in their amazing red sauce. Another dish that can go toe to toe with anyplace in town. If you like New Mexican food at all, do yourself a favor and get your chile fix at Mick's. You won't be disappointed.

    I pass by Mick's everyday on my way to work but, judging it from the outer appearance, had never considered going in until I read the Yelp reviews. I ordered the Carne Adovada enchiladas for lunch today. It was ok, the chile had a good flavor but absolutely no heat. Coming from a place that puts "chile" in their name I would expect more focus on the chile. The restaurant was uninspiring, it had a cafeteria like feel. The portion was very large and the price was surprisingly low. I will probably be back at some point but it's not a place I will be dragging my friends and family to.

    Old school place that does well for itself. Def not a franchise place but that was welcomed. I had the huevos rancheros and they were just alright. Had the feeling of very hoke cooked. After a heavy salting the food was great. Chile was an orange-red and a very light heat. All and all good for the price. Ill be back to try their burger but not a fan.

    Went for lunch and got beef tacos with red on the side. Tacos were good, beans tasted of nothing and the rice was undercooked. I've heard a lot of good things about Mick's and I'm going to chalk my visit up to a fluke. We went after the initial rush for lunch and that may have been the problem. As far as the restaurant is concerned, it's a diner. Very humble, no BS: they serve New Mexican. If you want paintings and turquoise, or any of the other standard flair, you won't find it here. Mick's seems to be about the food and I hope the next time I'm in, it reaches my expectations.

    First time for lunch. Had the special Frito pie with green. Oh my goodness was it awesome. You have a choice of meat gr beef, chicken, or carne adovada. Prices are very reasonable and food outstanding. Will be coming back for sure. Service was fast and friendly.

    One of my favorite ABQ spots. No pretense just good New Mexico grub in huge portions for an excellent price. Basic breakfast burrito for $5 and the triple threat bacon-ham-sausage is $9... and a heap of chile however you like. They sell their own chile sauce and Frito pie is a weekday lunch special. It's a great stop before hitting the local breweries with breakfast served all day. This is a true only-in-Albuquerque place.

    Ever want to just go someplace for a decent meal, good conversation, good coffee, affordable and more importantly, consistent? Someplace where you feel comfortable. Someplace unpretentious? Where the waitstaff are warm and friendly? Where the owners are approachable? Yeah? Then Mick's Chili Fix on Candelaria, east of I-25 is for you. Ask for crispy, dry bacon, that's what you get; want a sauce, normally on your food on the side, ok! Have a picky kid and wonder if Mick would do something with one of the menu items, ask for it! They aim to provide great customer service and hope you respond by coming back. I've been going there for years now and have never had a bad experience.

    Our neighbor suggested we give them a try, upon entry I knew he had found a jewel in the rough. The atmosphere is that of a home town establishment, kinda reminded me of Maggies this small breakfast place up in Wyoming. This day I had a breakfast burrito and my other half had the huevos rancheros. Our waitress turned out to be someone we knew from another local shop... bonus! Service was spot on and the food is delicious. Bring your appitite, they don't skimp on the portions here! One thing that stands out in my mind is the glass of water we were offered it's large and kept full (thank you). If you're in the area and hungry this place will not disappoint!

    Stopped here for the first time this morning with my wife and some friends. Read about Mick's in the paper a couple of months ago. We were not disappointed. Huge portions and amazingly affordable. The breakfast burrito was only 4.99 a was packed with egg, bacon, potatoes, cheese. I'm a big eater and still left a couple of bites on my plate.My wife had huevos ranchers and they looked good. Her only complaint was the red was a little too mild.

    The place was packed when I first walked in. Every table was occupied. The waitress that intercepted me let me know I could place an order to go at the counter or wait for a table- it wouldn't be long. 5 minutes later I was sitting down. Ordered a chicken burrito plate on the daily special for $5.50. It was huge and accompanied by flavorful beans and rice. Chips and salsa was only $1.50, and was a heaping portion. Chips were hot and clearly fresh. The chile wasn't very hot, but the flavor was good. I'd go back for some cheap eats!

    This place was awesome! Crazy huge portions and cheap prices! There was so much food on the table we had to take it home in 2 boxes. Traditional breakfast and Mexican food. The only downside is that it they close early, 1:30 pm everyday. :( Will definitely be coming back.

    Amazing food! The chili (red and green) were both delicious. The service was perfect so much so that we left thinking that it rivaled the service at some of the finer restaurants. The lady serving us was one of the friendliest wait staff ever. Again great food, great service and great chili! Would recommend to everybody.

    This is definitely somewhere to go when you are in desperate need of a chile fix! I ordered the sausage breakfast burrito with red and green, inside and out. I got my chile fix, but the burrito overall was just so-so. They only put 2 little breakfast sausage links in my HUGE burrito. Most of my bites were filled with potatoes, eggs, and cheese-- and of course chile, which was tasty. Maybe next time I will order extra meat in my breakfast burrito.

    Just had another marvelous lunch at Mick's Chile Fix last week - their waitstaff is wonderful, the RED is fabulous (one of my favorite reds in town!) and my only complaint is that they don't have guacamole. If you can live with that - don't miss this place!

    First off, I'm really glad this business spells chile with an E. While it would be a disgrace for them to overlook such a differentiation, I'm often disgraced by the disgraceful ignorance of our fellow New Mexicanites. So there's star number one. Star number two was the handheld breakfast burrito I picked up To Go around 11:30 in the morning. It was massive, at a very fair price ($4), and I'll include these notes for those who are as stuck up about their burritos as they are linguistic choices: A man size tortilla, big enough to keep me moving all day long. Hash browns (oh yeah). Eggs. Orange and green chile with a kick in the mouth. Chunks of sausage links (you can also do bacon or ham). Check it: some re-fried beans? And racing amongst the mess of it all was sharp, oh-so-delicious cheddar cheese. Star three was the ambiance, a perfect little cafe in a ruff industrial war zone (laden with magical beer from the unicorn gods). The place was filling up and I could tell it was a neighborhood fave, with hardworking people and an old-school vibe. The last star ascends from the heavens above and finds a halo atop the lovely, kind waitress that managed to effortlessly juggle her tables with my instantly demanding presence, always with a smile. She was great, as was the other woman, they looked like they could have been related. When I come back, which will be soon, I'll stop in for the entire experience and, depending on how things go, find another star to grace this place. Stellar.

    A sight for sore morning. The waitress says as she delivers our coffees" We are obsessed with refilling these, you have to tell us to stop." This place harkens back to a time when the dollar bought a little more, and going to a small town diner made you feel like part of the family. For under 5 $ you can stuff yourself at breakfast, and not much more for lunch. We both enjoyed breakfast burritos smothered. The ratio to bacon egg and potato was right on. I think the green chile is the star, over the red. They have a 2 egg, meat, bread, and potatoes plate for under 4$. If you want to become a sumo wrestler they have jumbo burrito with all the meats called the shocker. Two larger males sitting near us did not conquer this behemoth which is under 8$. The Waitress also said the Carne adobada is tops here. A little gem in an unexpected location. I thought the food was much better than Wecks, and Hurricanes, and the Chile sauce way better than The Frontier. Three stars for the food, four stars for service. The ladies always let you know about specials, and the placard is on the table as well.

    I frequently travel to Albuquerque for business and was introduced to the place by a colleague. I now make a point to hit Mick's up for lunch whenever I'm in the Duke City. This place has breakfast, sandwiches, and typical New Mexican favorites. I'll vouch for the red and green chile, as it's a good as I've had anywhere. They start you off with homemade chips and a hot, red salsa and they bring fresh, homemade tortillas with your food. Service is always great here. They have a couple of waitresses that are very much on top of it and take good care of the customers. When I was settling up the bill, I had a talk with Mick himself.He's in the kitchen, cooking up everything on his own and has obvious pride in what he does. Mick's chile is available in Smith's and Albertson's supermarkets in the area. Our sever promised that it's a close as they can get to what is served int he restaurant, but they have to add some preservatives for safety's sake.

    Decent coffee, huge breakfast burrito, really inexpensive but not so good. The huge burrito was only huge because of the ridiculous portion of mushy hash browns. There was hardly any egg in it! The bacon was nice and crispy but both the red and green chile were goopy. I didn't even think it was possible to make red chile goopy. Both chile sauces were full of thickening agents and lacking any flavor. The amount of heat in the chile was perfect but without flavor who cares? The service was fun and friendly but I will not be going back.

    The Good: The green here is mind-alteringly good. Don't know how authentic it is. Aromas of tropical fruits, even peaches. Spicy delicious with more flavor than just about any in town. The servers are about as friendly as any diner I have ever been in. If I went here more, I am sure they would know me by name. The owner is the cook and in the 5 or so times I have been in, he has always been the one preparing every meal. The Bad: Other than the chile, the food to me is average at best. No traditional chicharonnes, chorizo, barbacoa, carnitas, and the carne adovada that I had was tough and really fatty. The red is also nothing to write home about. The breakfast burrito that I had was below average with just as much mushy potato as anything else. The bacon was fine, but nothing spectacular. There is no ugly. I'll continue to frequent this place here and there, but there are plenty of places with good green and far better food.

    Mick's is straight the best bang for your buck in the ABQ. No questions asked. They have the 8 pound "shocker" burrito. What else needs to be said? Get ready to live. That's breakfast, dinner, and probably a late night snack too!!!! And only $8 for that beast. It's quite amazing. Usually only the locals in there too since it's kind of in the commercial construction industry part of town. Service is always awesome and probably the fastest ever for a "sit down" restaurant in the history of "sit down" restaurants. I've also tried the burger which is ridiculously off the chain for $4.25 (including fries). Go to Mick's once and you will be hooked. Landscaping sucks. All concrete, no greenery.
