Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Can't believe some of the bad reviews. This place has been serving food since 1932. They must be doing something right. As for me I had the carne adovada plate and couldn't have been happier. My margarita was excellent as well. My wife ordered the chili relleno plate and would not stop talking about how great it was. La Placita will be a regular stop for us when in Albuquerque.

This wasn't the worst Mexican I've had, but it definitely wasn't good. I had the Carne Asada and it was flavorless except for the generous amount of melted cheese. That's right, carne asada smothered in cheese (chedder or colby)... It was just wrong.
(2)Jason B.
Red chili sauce was FANTASTIC. Perfect amount of spice. A few coworkers and I hit up this place off a recommendation from one of their friends who used to live here. Even though it's in the center of a cute, rustic tourist trap, the food was phenomenal. And affordable! Waiter was extremely nice and talented at matching our verbal "I've got a taste for ____" with great selections off the menu. To cap it all off, they have this fresh out of the pan dough desert served with honey. Think of a sweet, warm, airy doughnut flavored puff pastry and you pretty much got the gist of it. I can't remember if these were free or not, but I'd pay twice what they were worth. Also, if you're a beer fan ask the waiter for their most popular IPA. They've got it in a bottle and will know what you're talking about. Trust me, you'll thank yourself for listening to a complete stranger on this one.

We go there every time we're in Albuquerque simply because we get a kick out of a restaurant that has a tree in the middle of one of the dining rooms. Where else have you ever seen that? We think the food is great. On our recent trip, the hostesses were friendly and our busboy was great. The server was pretty good. Mainly, we like the old building, the setting and the decor.
(4)Suzie M.
I was able to visit La Placita for lunch while I was in Albuquerque for work. It was the only time I made it to Old town, but what I saw I enjoyed. The building is historic, and we were seated right by the old tree that grows through the dining room. They have a variety of foods and feature several with Indian fry breads, I wasn't able to try those (gluten allergy) but some of my coworkers had some of those dishes and enjoyed them. They also loved the sopapillas and several thought they were the best they'd ever had! I had cheese enchiladas for my meal with the green chile sauce which I loved. The food is a little heavy, especially when you're going back to class for an afternoon, but we loved it!
(4)Kelly H.
This place has a really different vibe... since it's in a historic building, it feels like it's a step back in time... The place is HUGE, which was good for the rehearsal dinner we went to... The chile rellenos were to die for... yummm.... Service was just "ok".
(3)Bryan W.
I always order flat beef enchiladas with red chili. They have the cubed beef that is really tasty. Service is good. Add in the Old Town atmosphere and you can't go wrong!
(4)Tom W.
What a disappointment!!!! I've been eating here since I was a kid (48 years) on our family vacations to California. I had many fond memories until my recent trip. This is the only mexican food restaurant that I've every been to where I have had to ask for and then pay for chips and salsa! Huh???? I asked the hostess and she admitted they did it last year as a means to save money. This place used to be packed during the summer and the place to go to in Old Town. Not anymore. It's really sad. The service was slow and not very good. On the plus side the food was good and reasonably priced, boardering on cheap. Why not add a buck on the dinners and serve chips and salsa? All in all, this is no longer a "must eat" at recommendation for Albuquerque. Too bad
(1)Amber G.
I will NEVER go here to eat again and would not recommended anyone else eating here either. Reasons for not eating here: 1. ALL of our waters contained bugs, pieces of food, and other debris floating in them. 2. Had to wait 12 minutes to get new water 3. This is a Mexican restaurant and they charge for chips and salsa..not such a problem if they are good, but the chips were stale and were served with a very small bowl of salsa and you have to pay extra if you want more 4. Ordered the chile verde con queso because this was New Mexico, when it arrived it looked like someone threw up in the bowl and served it. There was a thick coating of oil floating on the top and the cheese was coagulated..this was $6.95 ..I complained to the waiter who informed me that this was "authentic" chile verde con queso and this is what it looks like..no way..no how !! 5. Margaritas made us sick because there was so much sweet and sour..we tried to finish them because they were $8.50. OOh and they were out of two if the flavors that I asked for so I had to get the regular margarita The only plus to our dining experience was that the manager was apologetic and took off the queso and offered our kids a free candy bar. Also the building itself is historic and worth seeing...but eat somewhere else
(1)Teresa F.
The historic building has great atmosphere. Despite being in the middle of tourist dense old town, this restaurant has really great food. We came here at a friend's recommendation for the stuffed sopapillas. Holy moly, they were delicious! It's more wet sopapillas than stuffed. The choice of green, red, or christmas sauce was poured on top of freshly made sopapillas, with more sopapillas on the side. We were the ones that were stuffed! I love how the addictive side sopapillas became dessert drizzled with honey. Oh boy, how I wished I can have one of those sopapillas with honey now.
(4)D M.
The atmosphere was charming and the location and historic building were great! The food and service were average - I was disappointed, thinking that a restaurant in that location and in such a beautiful building would have excellent food.
(4)Rachel C.
This place has been around forever. In the last few years they've upgraded their entry / art gallery, but the restaurant is pretty much like it's been for many years. Good tourist Mexican food, but not spectacular. Typical "Old Town" atmosphere. Sometimes it can get crowded during meal time and tourist season . . . of course, most of the time is tourist season in ABQ Old Town. The service is ok, but not spectacular either. I think the waitresses have been workng here forever too and are kind of burned out on the friendly customer service smile rule. Some are young, but seemed to have picked up the "OMG another Ohio tourist!" attitude from the old timers. If you are in Old Town don't hesitate to stop in and have a margarita, but don't go out of your way either. The really interesting thing about this restaurant / building are the ghosts that inhabit it. Ask about the details. LADIES: Be sure you check out the mirror in the Ladies Room for the little girl who died here. Better yet, don't go to the restroom alone if you are frightened of ghosts! More than likely you are going to see one! Check out the Southwest Ghost Hunters website on La Placita's residents. sgha.net/nm/albq/laplaci…

Very historical, original buiding was built in the 1700's. Food was cheap, 9.99 for carne asada. Food was good, but not memorabe, service was outstanding. Atmosphere was cool, I could visualize Pancho Villa eating dinner there with his boys..... I know that this is a tourist stop, but there is something to be said about sitting in 300+ year old building and having a meal..........
(3)Sarah S.
So, if I could give 0 stars I would. The one star is for the salsa. It was pretty tasty. Other than that, the food was not very good, bordering on awful. I had the indian taco which was pretty bland, and other half had a club wrap which, quite frankly, literally smelled like poo. Sick the rest of the evening. Blech, never eat here. Go elsewhere in Old Town. Anywhere else.
(1)Nina P.
DON'T WAIST A MINUTE HERE! Don't take guests it's so lame! The interior is dingy. The food is blah. I would never go back.
(1)Tue N.
My wife and I ate at La Placita restaurant and I was not impressed at all. I was thirsty through out the whole meal. Service was eh and the food was worse. Her salad was brown. My burrito... if that's what you want to call it did not taste good The Sopapilla which were free were good. I would have rather paid for them rather than the meal.
(1)Shannon H.
Deserving of a higher rating than 3 stars, the food is awesome. Have eaten here each time we've been through ABQ, great food every time. Also love the huge tree growing through the roof in the back dining area and the vendors that line the sidewalk in front.
(4)Jaime Patricio M.
It has been years since I have been here. But I pine for the moment to go back; my reason is that as a little boy my family and I would go here and I recollect on how old this former hacienda was and the tree in the middle of the enclosed courtyard where we would eat. In winter time I could smell cedar or pine would on the fire and getting closer to La Placita I could smell red chile and sopaipillas being prepared. It was a warmth and glow and a feeling for a simpler day; life was large and magical and somehow I knew there were other larger cities but somehow I didn't care; in Albuquerque in the winter time is about being close to the organic world of fireplace, family and being close to your hearth. Buen Provecho!
(3)J P.
The food and atmosphere were great. The staff were very attentive and we had a great time. I was with a large group and we were served buffet style in their large banquet room. If I ever get a chance to go back to Albuquerque, I will definitely look forward to dining at La Placita.
(4)Monica L.
Really good cheesy platters. Love a lot of cheese on my food. This place was definitely better than church street cafe last night. The salsa is not watery, and plenty spicy. Nice, light sopaipillas. Love the chile rellenos here! Ambiance isn't bad, they have a nice lighted room, the other rooms are a little dark and cold. Great service from our waiter too. The only disappointing thing was the mexican fried ice cream. There was nothing fried about, just a scoop of vanilla ice cream coated with corn flakes and chocolate syrup on top. don't pay 5.75 for that.
(4)Michelle T.
The nice cozy fire in the reception area distracts you from the bad food and HORRIFIC service. I think my citron rita may have just been dishwater with a lime added. My boyfriend and I were sick the rest of the day. STAY AWAY!
(1)Ben R.
We went for lunch on a Thursday. The staff was very unhappy. Its as if no one was happy to have a job. When I would say thank you, they would not even acknowledge me. My steak was dry and unseasoned.
(1)mike f.
Long awaited visit to Old Town restaurant La Placita, 30 years after graduating from Highland was a real disappointment. Strictly a tourist eatery with poor quality of food and mid range prices. Not as I remembered in my youth. The worst Mexican food I've had in years. Place is old which is fine, but their sopapilla was doughy and wasn't even brown and crispy as it should be. Had to send it back. In fact I had the best sopapillas in Arizona. Truely a tourist trap, it was sad!
(2)Molly M.
After reading some of the other reviews, I was scared to go here for a Christmas party. I was pleasantly surprised. Service was too slow, but chicken enchiladas were good. The beans were very good and the sopapillas were delicious.
(3)Nickie G.
This was my first visit to La Placita, but I pushed for us to go there because I heard about the old tree and I love Old Town Albuquerque. Christmas time in Old Town is GORGEOUS! La Placita has a very rich history that just seeps from the walls. The main dining area has a huge tree that has never been removed and adds to the very unique feeling of the place. The experience: I ordered a combination plate with and enchilada, tamale, and taco. The price was very reasonable (around $8 for a generous portion). The taste was good, but I figured something a little more authentic. Unlike most restaurants we were not given chips or salsa. I ordered a diet coke and when it came it tasted very flat, there was no fizz. I asked the waitress for just a glass of tea instead and she responded, 'Flat? That's funny, it came from a can.' That may be, but the soda is still flat and doesn't taste right... I just wanted something that wouldn't make me complain. Tea or water seemed like the correct choice. And guess what?! The tea was good! The sopapillas came out hot and fresh after out meal, and were delicious with honey! I think that was by far my favorite part of the meal! Over all it was a very lovely restaurant, beautifully dressed for the holidays. The food was decent. The service was slightly below average.
(3)Laura G.
Amazing authentic food. Yum!
(4)Greg K.
bravo! real New Mexician food done right for a fair price!!! great service tooo
(5)Elaina J.
Mexican food in Albuquerque should be better. We did have top notch service from our friendly, knowledgeable waiter though. It seemed like the other guests at the other tables were enjoying there food; maybe we ordered the wrong things. My husband got to chile rellenos, he said they were so-so. I tried something new (can't remember what it was called) but it was fried indian bread with chicken and beans. Meh. The salsas were good.
(2)Rob H.
I ate here many times as a child while travelling to New Mexico. My wife and I recently went there on vacation and it was just like I remember. Terrific food, good service, and good prices. I don't know how it stands up to other places in Albuquerque for authenticity, but to me you can't do any better than this. The cheese dip with the green chiles was fantastic, and the beef burrito was great as well. My wife and I shared a Navajo taco one afternoon as well, and I thought it was the greatest thing I've ever tasted!!
(5)Sandra R.
After a long drive, La Placita was a welcome treat. The service was friendly and quick. The food was very good, and the ambience enjoyable. I had a park burrito with a spicy red sauce. The rice and beans tasted amazing. To top it off, delicious sopapillas were served fresh and hot , with honey.
(3)Andy D.
This place has definitely seen better days, in terms of popularity. Even with an awesome location right off the plaza and it being a Saturday afternoon with the San Felipe de Neri church festival going on, this place was still pretty dead. The interior of the restaurant is quite nice, and there are some cool things in there, like the staircase imported from Spain and the tree growing straight through the roof. The service is lukewarm. The hostess was friendly enough, but our waiter was not very friendly. He was kind of standoffish, but got the job done. However, there was a very nice waitress who was serving nearby tables, so don't let that scare you off. We had taken the ABQ Trolley Co. tour, so we got a free order of nachos with our order (there was no issue or struggle to obtain them). I had ordered their specialty, the stuffed sopapillas. One was stuffed with chicken, and the other was stuffed with beef. The chicken one was definitely the better of the two. The beef sopapilla was tasty, but was ground beef. I was expecting shredded/braised beef. The huevos rancheros were also good, but not as good as others we sampled. But the real standout were the enchiladas. They were so good! This place is famous for their sopapillas. They come with every meal and there is honey on the table to drizzle on the sopapillas. They were the best I've had, but only due to the fluffiness. They were kinda salty. I think they use the same batter for their stuffed and plain sopapillas. As with lots of New Mexican restaurants, the cost is high for lunch, because there is no separate lunch menu. However, portions were large and kept you full for hours. If you're in Old Town and hungry, this is a great place to go to if you don't feel like walking far.
(4)Paul G.
Here goes.......serious local restaurant supporter here who has been here off and on his entire life. In the 'old days' this was a premiere destination for locals who had company in town. It was THEE Old Town dining experience. This past Saturday I must say that I liked the food and the hot sopapillas. Our party of 8 overwhelmed the place. Back up..........SATURDAY EVENING THE NIGHT OF THE SAN FELIPE PARISH FIESTAS and one dining room was barely half full. I never see it busy. This place should be vibrant, music, bar, and employees who care. Where's the manager working the room? Where are the mariachis? Okay I've said it. I don't think the owners care. SIDE NOTE: while a tad slow our server was awesome. I wish I had his name. He's been there for a few years.........he wears thick rimmed really cool eyeglasses. He divided our ticket into 8 and didn't flinch. However, it's when you enter and leave there's no pizzazz..............no one asks how dinner was. No one says hello or goodbye, "enjoy your evening and our beautiful plaza". They don't care about this restaurant. That's been my feeling for years. This place could be HOT.
(3)Andrew E.
Really nice place to go out to eat. Staff are extremely friendly and go out of their way to make conversation with you. My first taste of New Mexican food and I was not disappointed, lovely atmosphere inside the building also.
(5)Younger L.
Came last year for a softball tournament and left disappointed because I went to a restaurant with great word of mouth reviews. Came here one year later and didn't think much about eating out but I'm glad we came here. Great food and service. Even had a tree inside lol. Will def come again!!!
(5)Antti I.
Stopped here once and what an dissapointment it was. The food was Average at best and the service was OK. The portions are good sized but the food has little texture or taste and the prices are little high. Only the Margarita and Sangria were good. Avoid if possible.
(2)Scott M.
What a cool place. The food, the staff were all great. I had the house special and it was very good. The chips and salsa are great. A great selection of appetizers. The food came hot and fresh and our weight staff was eager to make sure we had everything we needed. A great dining experience.
(5)Tere O.
I recently had relatives visit us from 2 different states . I took them to Old Town and we ate at La Placita Dining Rooms. We loved the food! We loved the service! All in all it was a great experience for them. I was so proud. They loved being there. :)
(5)Chris H.
The food was really good, but the mandatory 20 percent gratuity on large parties was a bit much, especially when our party was mostly small children. The service was terribly slow, 1 1/2 hours for lunch is b.s., then they taxed us $9 for a tip? Ridiculous
(2)Rebecca T.
Food was just okay when I was there in March 2013. I did not like the La Placita Original so can't recommend that. I expect flavorful spiced food. But the dining room we were seated in was interesting with the tree growing out of it and the patio ambience.
(2)Patrice B.
Great place. The restaurant was established in a house erected in 1706 so very historic. One the dining rooms has a old tree in the middle of making a nice courtyard look. The food is cooked to perfection. The staff is very attentive. And at the end of the meal you get these hollow square bread pastries called Soapillas. You coat the inside of them with honey and enjoy! All in all a place I will definitely come back to.
(4)Karen W.
We were very, very disappoint in this place. The quality is not lower, it's pretty much nonexistent! My family and I have dined at La Placita several times over the last 8 years, when visiting Albuquerque from Texas, and had always looked forward to returning for the great food and the amazing baskets full of hot sopapillas. NOT THIS TIME. We should have gotten the hint when the restaurant had people at only 2 tables when we were seated at 12:30 pm, lunchtime, on a Sunday. This restaurant used to be packed on the weekends. Yikes. The food is boring, the sopapillas were undercooked and very doughy inside. We will not be coming back again.
(1)Ginger O.
Shame on you, La Placita !! While visiting New Mexico, the party I was with decided to have lunch here. It's a complete tourist trap. The food is total garbage. I could have had a better Mexican food at Jack In The Box. I had a combo plate with a taco, chile relleno, and cheese quesadilla for like $14.00!! The chile relleno was not edible, the taco was just a spoonful of ground beef with cheese and cheese quesadillas are just fluff. Also, there is NO KIDS MENU. The food is terrible, and horribly overpriced. our bill was almost $40.00 for 3 plates of slop. And then there's the ladies bathroom....The toilets are crooked and tip over and the stall doors do not stay closed. Most of the restaurant is crooked as well. Upon paying for our bill, the guy didn't even ask how everything was. I'm pretty sure it's because he knows what kind of garbage they serve there.
(1)Lynn B.
Okay so here is the gist. Anytime I am down in Albuquerque- (or Las Vegas, NM- yes there is a Las Vegas New Mexico hehe) on my way to Santa Rosa- I always make it a day or two to stop in and eat here. I think it has good food but mostly I love the walk through old town to get here and then be sated al fresco. The stuffed sopa's are good- but I would go for the special. LA PLACITA'S ORIGINAL LA PLACITA'S ORIGINAL OLD TOWN SPECIAL TWO STUFFED SOPAIPILLAS ONE WITH BEEF AND PINTO BEANS ONE WITH CHICKEN AND PINTO BEANS TOPPED WITH CHEESE YOUR CHOICE OF RED OR GREEN CHILE 13.95 but don't quote me on that. The staff is very nice/ reception area is a little awkward as it is "in" the restaurant and not near the door. The decor is so old world- touristy "yes" but who cares. laplacitadiningroom.com/… Oh yes, the prices are touristy as well, I wouldn't say its a "trap" cause the food does have merit- but a family of 4, with two teen boys, will run you around 60$.
(3)Randi C.
The service was TERRIBLE! Sunday afternoon and it was about 45min before we got out food for 4 ppl. And they were not very busy. Our waiter was rude and checked us on us 3 times, and only once during our meal. We asked for more chips and we never got them. Asked for guacamole, never got it. Our drinks were gone 3 times and someone else kept brining the refills. I remember growing up and going here at least once a month. But after today I will NOT be going back. And I will be telling everyone one not to eat here.
(1)Kelly B.
The food was great. I had chile rellenos and rice and beens, with red sauce and a sopapilla. That part was fine, was reasonably priced, and is probably the reason I would return. Located in the heart of Old Town, the thick adobe walls create a cool atmosphere. Sparsely, but tastefully decorated, yes, this is the restaurant with the tree growing out of the main dining room, which I think was once a patio that got covered over. The service was... not so great. Although the host was sweet and good looking, the wait staff was overworked. This was obvious. However, there was a certain attitude... hard to put a finger on it... as a single diner, I am probably more aware of the eye-rolling, teeth clenching, sighing that goes on than a person who has a table of loved ones to amuse them. I am also aware when a server makes small talk with every other table in the room, but not with me or the other single diner. It's also the little things, like an empty glass perched on a ledge in my sight line five feet away... that is my view. I hate to be picky, so I will stop here. Let's just say, the food deserves better. When I eat alone, I often tip 20 - 30% to make up for the fact that I did not have another diner with me. I tipped a straight 15% here. Will I be back, probably. Mom and dad said that I had to eat at the restaurant with the tree in the room... ::laugh:: you know they will ask! I will tell them, "yes!" (besides, the food was excellent)
(3)Stephanie F.
I've been here twice and I would fly back to Albuquerque just to eat here again! The sopapillas are amazing!!! This place has a great atmosphere in a great location in Old Town.
(5)Sarah K.
points for: ambiance, service, recommendation from street vendor, price unlike other reviewers, I thought price was reasonable and food was more authentic than alternatives. it is northern New Mexico style per vendor who went through just about every choice available with us once we told her we liked Church Street Café. tree growing in middle of room and fragrant fire made me want to hang around. it's relaxing and quiet. do it.
(3)Chris K.
Terrible. Where to start....lets start with service. We went during lunch and it was not crowded at all. It took a little over an hour for us to get our meal. Next, quality. First, the food came out wrong and on top of that, it was horrible. It tasted like microwaved mexican food. I would have preferred to gone to McDonalds. Lastly, the price. There were 5 of us (1 child) and the tab was over $150. I couldn't believe it. Definitely NEVER going back. Yea, there is a tree growing in the middle of the dining room, but who cares. All you see is the trunk. Don't get sucked into this tourist trap!!
(1)Mehmet D.
I had dinner there with my sister and 2 other friends last Tuesday. I will not even talk about the environment or the taste, because the restaurant fails to provide even safe food. We ordered chicken enchiladas and burritos, and something was tasting wrong and old. Next day, I woke up with a big stomach pain, and I had to go to bathroom frequently. Later in the day, I heard all my friends from dinner had the same problem. It was never as bad as food poisoning but we kept having stomach ache for 2 days. Therefore, I do recommend this place if you enjoy paying 20 dollars to have stomach pain for 2 days.
(1)D. W.
I liked La Placita. Almost didn't go because of other reviews but I found the service and food to be good. Awesome tamale plate and the salsa was just the way I like it... spicy.
(4)S H.
You must eat in the dining room with the live tree growing threw the roof and you wont be able to stop eating the sopapillas with honey or the sopapillia entrees. They are so light a fluffy they melt in your mouth! And oh yeah... everything on the menu is great! I see many comments that the prices are high but honestly they are no more than El Torito and the food is WAY BETTER!!!
(5)Rita A.
Yeah, this place was pretty bad. My husband wanted to go because he had been to this restaurant when he was a kid and remembered the tree. So, even after all of the reviews of this place, my husband still wanted to go see the tree. Sigh. So we went, and got a table right next to the tree. That was the best part of the experience. The food was mediocre and the sopapilla was yucky.
(1)Sandy K.
Love Love this place, it is a must visit every Trip to Albuquerque! Navajo Taco, absolutely favorite.... Also their Enchiladas are amazing! The staff always friendly and helpful, I enjoyed visiting this last trip our server was awesome, even though they were out of guacamole and desserts :) Had a blast dinning here well worth the stop. And remember to bring your camera lots of interesting pictures to take,.and be sure to get one of the tree!
(5)Eugenia L.
La Placita is a poor example of New Mexican cuisine. I blame it on the fact that it's located in Old Town, where unsuspecting people are easily funneled inside. My party and I came for lunch and were seated in the central dining area with the live tree. Which was surrounded by cobwebs. Scenic. The complimentary salsa and chips were an omen of what was to come. The "salsa" looked and tasted like blended tomatoes and jalapenos and nothing more. It was the laziest interpretation of salsa I've ever seen. For my entree I ordered the Carne Avovada, which was described as red chili marinated pork with the usual sides of rice and beans. Upon my first taste I noticed other than the sauce the pork had no flavor whatsoever and had a dry crumbly texture. Not from being overcooked but from being frozen. I didn't eat anymore after that, and others agreed something was off about the texture. Thankfully the meal came with a basket of sopapillas. This was the saving grace of the entire experience. They're very similar to beignets if you drizzle them with honey or you can treat them as bread. It's freshly fried dough, can't go wrong with that. All in all, the poor quality of food really hurt my opinion of the establishment. There were no issues with service, but it couldn't help me from feeling cheated.
(2)Katy P.
The atmosphere here is really unique. I'm pretty sure it's haunted. Make sure to check out the tree growing in the middle of the restaurant. In general, the food here is nothing special, but the sopapillas are AMAZING. I also recommend trying the skinny margaritas!
(4)Shane M.
Stopped in here for lunch while passing through NM. The green chili queso is likely the best I have ever had. Lunch was fantastic, and the sopapillas were probably the best I have ever had. Service 2 as not so great, but the food was so good we didn't let it bother us.

Food was good, green Chile is just got enough to get your nose running a bit, maybe even staying to sweat a little. Sopapillas to end the meal topped us off! Nice, old time, "authentic" atmosphere. service was great and fast.
