Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Kathy's is totally local located in SW Albuquerque, this is an older area with a lot of diversity. Visitors to NM this is a place to traverse. This place has a nice parking lot and the building has clearly been spruced up. When you walk in there is the smell of New Mexican cuisine, you know chile, corn tortillas and so on. They've got a 100+ Coke-a-Cola machines too. We placed our order and $11 and some change later out came our food. They serve everything in to-go packaging dine in or not. As I sat in my wobbly chair eating my most delicious breakfast burrito I noticed how many locals were stopping by. On this day I chose a breakfast burrito with red & green (christmas), beans, cheese, egg and sausage by default it comes handheld Am I fan, you bet, this place convinced me to create a Yelp! list of New Mexican cuisine. Come visit this place if you get a chance. Thanks Kathy's we'll come see you again :) ***** Parking ***-- Facility ****- Cleanliness ***** Service ****- Food ***** Value Score = 26 which is a 4.3 (Really good)

Not a single vegetarian option which is very strange for a Mexican restaurant. Most places can at least make a BRC burrito but this place must cook it's beans in lard so even the beans aren't suitable for vegetarians

Kathy, if you read these reviews on Yelp, please know that the next time I eat at your restaurant I'm going to give you a hug and a kiss! I came by Kathy's today to eat at the urging of my wife. My wife claimed that this was one of the best gems in Albuquerque. So I had to try it. Well friends I'm proud to say my wife was right! Kathy's is located in the South Valley, an area I don't traverse but have become more interested in lately. Once I arrived, my wife told me that the little old building next to Kathy's was the original restaurant. It was cool to see where they came from to where they are. Once inside I was impressed with dinning area, very simple, fresh and clean. My first thought about Kathy's was this is a homey environment deeply involved in the community. I kind of had the feeling that this is a place where people have hung out for generations and everyone knew your name. The staff was friendly and inviting. The women who took our order was cool and I could have talked to her for hours, I love it. I ordered the Chicharone burrito plate and it was fantastic. For $7 you get a good sized burrito, stuffed with beans and Chicharones, rice and beans. You can't beat that. This is the closest to home as you can get in Mexican cuisine and for those that read my reviews, I alway say food that taste the closest to home is the absolute best. All in all, this being my first visit I'm pleased with what I ate and I can't wait for my next visit to try something else. Kathy's is worth a try my friends, form your own opinions and enjoy the food!

I was a bit skeptical to try this place, but I was so glad that I did. For $5.00 I got three awesome and delicious ground beef and potato tacos, rice, chips, and beans! I couldn't believe it, $5.00 for all of that!! The taste of all of it was seriously almost one of the best taco and rice flavors you can get in Albuquerque! I also ordered a tamale, which was okay. The masa (corn) part was tasty, but the chile was pretty bland (and not even spicy). This was very unlike New Mexico chile. Also there was a piece of grease in the meat which was a little unsavory. I also tried some of my Mom's food, which was a chicharron stuffed sopapilla covered in green chile, also being pretty delicious! I would definitely recommend the green chile over their red! It's a tiny bit spicy, but not as spicy as I would like (but who knows maybe it varies on a day to day basis, needless to say I will definitely go back to try it). The good part about this place, is they have Coke and Fanta in the glass bottles! I love being able to have a delicious Coke made with sugar and not high fructose corn syrup with my meal! For flavor fanatics, they also have one of the 100 flavor Coke machines (like at the Frontier), but they charge $0.50 for refills. However, if you get a large soda for $1.95 you probably won't need a refill. Also like another reviewer mentioned, they have daily specials which are pretty fairly priced! If you haven't tried this place, you have to! I totally recommend the taco plate! You won't be disappointed and you will save money (because the food is so reasonably priced)! The only thing I would recommend is for the owner or manager to loosen up. She doesn't come off as the friendliest person, but really the food makes up for it! In addition to that, I love the music that they play in there! Also as a concluding note, you can call ahead and pick up your order through a drive thru! I thought that was pretty legit :) Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed!

A South valley great! Every now and then in Albuquerque you can find a true Dimond in the sand- this is one such place. Tucked away you can imagine how only those in the community know of such a hem I usually base a New Mexican food joint on their Carne Adovada- if they deliver I call them worth the stop- if they dont- you might add well be a tourist. Kathy ' s delivers and then some. The meat wad extremely tender and the red chilie or wad marinated in, for what seemed like must have been several hours, was just the right flavor - heat combo. The tortilla is another make it or break it- and here is no different. Fluffy and fresh. Though decor is lacking, it doesn't matter- this is a hole in the wall joint that all you care about is the flavors!!!!!! I give it a top 10 in NM food and top 5 of Abq!!!!!!!!!!

Would give zero for a rating if possible. We called our order in to pick up. First of all the lady that answered the phone's English was terrible. Finally after back and forth with her, her trying to understand & us trying to understand her we placed our order to pick up in 20 min. After sitting in line for another 15 min we get to the window. She ask pick up name.. I tell her & there is a blank stare on her face. She ask again.. Then leaves the window .. Then I see her go to the lady sitting by the phone.. They argue.. Then she walks away again. Then finally the lady that was sitting by the phone comes to the window & ask what we ordered. I told her that I was not sure exactly because we had a large order for four people. She looks at the tickets in her hand & ask the pick up name again. She says I'm so sorry.. I have your order right here.. I gave your order to the other lady & she did not do your order. Would you like to come back in a while we will have it done. HECK no.. It's been over half & hour.. I'll take my business elsewhere

Love their food. Everything on their menu is delish!!!! We go there at least once a week or once every two weeks. Their service is quick. I love being able to call my order in and drive thru and pick it up.

After stopping at Chicharrioneria Orocco, I looked across the street and found this brand new restaurant. I said what the heck and when over there to check it out. The place is very new and very clean. Scanning the menu I ordered a meat tostada and a tamale. They say they hand make tamales in their kitchen. 1. The tostada was good but not distinguished. The shredded beef was a good feature. The sauce was red and tasted like most other red chili sauces. 2. The tamale was excellent and altogether the total score restaurant score is 4 stars. Not as good as Cervantes, but very very close. This was certainly a good tamale stacked up against other in-state or out-of-state competition. I would have no hesitation always ordering their tamales if I was in the neighborhood.
