Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

A plus real Mexican food. Crowded and small restaurant--nothing fancy, just excellent food! You will think you are in Mexico! Hand made chips and HOT salsa start you off for something special! I always get cheese enchilada plate or guacamole tostadas. Have never heard anyone complain about food being anything but delicious. You will overeat the chips to scoop up remmants of food on your plate, so be warned not low calorie! And Juanita herself is always there. Lots of Mexicans eat here--so nice to have authentic Mexican food! Wish I had a plate of enchiladas right now so will gave to go back next week.

If I had a Mexican grandmother, Juanita's would be like going to her house. Solidly decent Mexican, not New Mexican, food. Homemade and yummy and comforting. The green chile salsa is good, the thick tortilla chips are as well, and the portions are great. A great little mom and pop hole-in-the-wall equal to Barelas Coffee House, and more charming. Also... homemade horchata. mmmmmmmmm happy belly

Grateful owners and always welcoming, I wish she would open for dinner but they close at 3:00pm. I always wait till the masses leave before I do my lunch. The Juanita burger is out of town!!! Today its chicken tacos with lots of rice the green salsa is HOT. Not hot if your used to it but it was for me. Stop into this little hole in the was and leave wobbling out

I came here for lunch, I was very exited after reading the reviews. It was a total disaster I got ignored for about 15 minutes and I order one colorado burrito, it took them another 30 minutes to make it, I'm not sure why it took so long everything was fresh out of the microwave.

I love this cute little restaurant! It's is super yummy and has this ma' n pop feeling, very delicious Classic Mexican and New Mexican food. I am excited to find out they are open later as I thought they were only a breakfast place!

I love Juanita's Mexican food, I come here at least twice a month! (I seldom eat out) this is TRUE Mexican food, none of that New Mexican flair. Her beans taste exactly how my grandmother made them. Which is amazing. My favorite plate is the cheese enchilada plate with green chile. Superb food I've been coming here over ten years. UPDATE: After being a loyal customer since like 2002. I had a bad time. I ordered my usual (I'm vegetarian) the green Chile cheese enchiladas. She had repeated my order like 3 times. She still wound up giving me the green chicken enchiladas. I calm told her I don't eat meat... she apologized like crazy and said it was her fault, which it was because she even repeated my order 3 times. She took it back and brought me my food finally. She seemed annoyed with me. I would think after being a customer for over ten years she would apologize plus give me further discount. Well when I went to pay between my sister and myself it is usually like 17.00 this time my total came out about 25!! She charged me more for her mistake! I was appalled. I would think being her fault she would give me a stooped discount. Well she took it upon herself to punish me for her mistake. I will not be going back after being a loyal customer for ten +years.

Authentic, cozy and tasty! Came here based on reviews and will come again!!! Homestyle Mexican. Daily specials - I had the fajita plate (not sizzling, thankfully). If you're tired of Barela's, Garcias etc., you should give it a shot.

This place was great! Fresh everything, home cooked flavors and inexpensive! Don't pass this one up!

Delightful atmosphere. The red chile has a hint of tomato sauce to it, which in my book is something of a culinary sin. But that's compensated for by the delightful waitstaff and earthy vibe. Park in the shade of the 50's aluminum overhang, and notice all the sparrows who have made their homes in the rafters. Open the flimsy metal screen door and sit yourself down; sip some of the watery yet somehow enjoyable iced tea and rest your elbows on the sticky table mat. Order the enchiladas if you're not looking to take a risk; order the ranch plate if you're a bit more hungry and your heart's looking south. Carne adovada isn't as pungeant as it is at places like Cocina Azul, yet it all seems to work quite well here nonetheless.

Went inside at 3 in the afternoon to buy a soda and use the restroom (out-of-town visitor for the Baloon Fest). My oh my! Heaven is this place on a sunny, lazy afternoon. Door is left open with just a screen to the outside--just like at home on a sunny Summer day! Small interior but full of sunlight and simple charm from days gone by. Absolutely no pretentiousness. Place is clean and colorfully decorated. When I went up to the cash register to order the soda, there is an opening that lets you see into the kitchen, and that is when I knew I had to stay and order something. I ordered a chili relleno and it was fantastic! So authentic, just the right amount of cheese and the green chili inside was perfect! Tasted delicious--totally homemade and fresh. The owner then brought over homemade tortilla chips that were a nice change from the run-of-the mill ones you get at most Mexican resturants. I ordered a breakfast burrito to go (eggs, sausage, potatos, cheese and green chili and it was one of the best I have had. Very nice staff. This place is simplicity defined, but it is nice, because there is care put into the food. I don't doubt that some day I will drive here from Denver just to go to Juanitas and come back to a simpler, less wordly time.

This is a tiny hole in the wall restaurant that has MEXICAN food, not New Mexican. Being from el paso, I was looking for that style of food and this is it. Juanita herself takes your order and serves you. Service is slow, but the food is great.

authentic hole-in-the-wall mexican restaurant owned by Senora Juanita located on the Barelas strip neighborhood south of downtown albuquerque on the way to the Hispanic Cultural Center. it feels like a cozy homey dining room not seven tables being served by your nice relatives from south of the border. in fact, i prefer this over Barelas Coffee House as it is more intimate and does not feel like a factory, where tables are churned. delicious homemade tortilla, tostadas and fresh salsa. and the coka-cola are from accross the border. made with sugarcane sugar! daily special plato-completos with rice and beans and a main dish. chips and salsa are gratis. --- i've re-evaluated this place; am not as gung-ho about it. it got busy and then got sloppy...
