Excellent food - we stopped on the last day of our New Mexico trip to get lunch. This place is 10 minutes from the airport. The food is so good - we had the pernil, perfectly toasted sandwich with grilled onions and the best garlic sauce I have had. We also ordered the lunch special which had beans, rice, pulled beef and oh the yucca fries with the best sauce ever. The service gets 5 stars too - very friendly and they checked on us a few times to make sure we didn't need anything. This place is a must visit.

I hate to deduct stars for their location, but I'm going to, that and no beer & wine license yet. Other than those deductions, Awesome with a capital A! The prob is the ambiance just isn't there. We dined outside on one of the tables in front, and unfortunately the only view is a chain-link fence and a parking lot. In my humble opinion, they could spruce the front up a bit with a higher wood fence & then decorate a bit with something Cubanesque. You wouldn't think it would cost too much for this, but I'm sure they have plans of their own. In addition, a beer would have gone really well with my food, but se la vie. The wife & I both ordered the Pernil & wow!! Awesome roasted pork with caramelized onions and Swiss cheese! What more could you want? It was REALLY Good! Naturally when eating Cuban one must order some sweet fried plantain as well, that's kind of a prerequisite. Oh, lets not forget the Yucca fries, paired with their dipping sauce and, once again, awesome! I love Yucca, something about the texture & flavor combined does it for me. I think it's safe to assume fried yucca is Latin America's potato, though it's also pretty popular in the Philippines as well. Anyway, I loved it! My wife liked it and my daughter, well... who cares what she thought, she's seven. Go there, you'll love it too!

Wowzers. I've wanted to go here for over a year now and FINALLY made it. That CUBANO did not disappoint. This just became one of my essential ABQ go-to restaurants! Bonus: fried plantains and a mango-passion fruit shake! Do it.
(5)Brian M.
Guava Tree Cafe is a must visit for anyone visiting and of course for any locals who frequent the Nob Hill area. There are many delicious options for both food and drink here and it's all in a cool atmosphere whether you're inside or outside. The sandwiches are a link to the Cuban culture with the dynamite Cubano and Pernil sandwiches. I got the Pernil and my wife got the Cubano and the gooey melted deliciousness that will get your mouth watering are expertly put together. I would give the sandwiches here 10 stars if I could. The slow roasted caribbean-rubbed pork is something you must experience. They don't stop with sandwiches though, they also have shakes available that are as fresh as money can buy. They're thicker than what you're probably used to, but I really enjoyed the change of pace with the mango shake I got. We'll be back for sure! Visit Guava Tree!

I can't believe I haven't written a review about this glorious testament to restaurants that are small and family owned. Guava Tree Cafe is a go to spot for a great experience... and by that I mean lunch. Arrive right when they open or later in the afternoon to avoid the line, because during the lunch hour they are busy. Reasonably so because their food is beyond fantastic. I've always been impressed with my meals here and the service. Always a smile and always professional. You can tell they love what they do. Dancing to the sweet Latin music in the background as they craft the greatest Cafe con Leche you could have in the ABQ. It's taken me a few too many Check Ins to write this and do the Guava Tree Cafe Justice, but it's happened. They're one of the places that everyone who lives in the ABQ should put on there list. It's the best, and if you don't you're just not doing yourself any favors.
(5)Jeff M.
I'm back!! I had to add that the Guava Pollito is THE BEST sandwich I have EVER eaten!!! Be advised you should love mushrooms with this sandwich :-) After I finish my non-veggie bing, I'll be back to try ALL of their vegetative menu items!!! My God! The mango smoothies are amazing!!!
(5)Andrew P.
Thank you Yelp!!! Came here for the Cubano sandwich and it did not disappoint! Diego also made me something to the effect of a guava and passion fruit smoothie (not exactly sure, just told him to surprise me) and it was the perfect match. wish I lived here, would be here several times a week for sure!
(5)Chris S.
The staff was very helpful and pleasant. They helped us decided on what to order and a beverage to try. My friend and I both had the Arepa Pabellon, which was delish!!! My friend had the mango smoothie and I had the special kind of lemonade that they sell. Both were really good. Highly recommended this place!! They also have a limited amount of parking which is a nice plus.
(5)Tracy W.
This is my favorite place. Great options for both gluten-free and vegetarian eaters, too. I've never had a bad meal here, but my favorites would have to be patacon (not on the regular menu, unless it's changed very recently, but sometimes offered as a daily special) and the yuca fries with garlic dip. I tried to convince the owner to give me the recipe, since I live in another country now, but so far I haven't cracked the code. Maybe next time I'll try to bribe him with Scotch!
(5)Nick B.
Worth the 5 star review The machilla arepa was delicious as was the cubano. The specialty lemonade was good too!
(5)Christine S.
Authentic. Flavorful. Delicious. Just a few words to describe this godsend of a place. You can see the cooks from the moment you walk in, and hear them speaking in Spanish. They bring out your food to your Table with the warmest smile, and you know they've poured their heart and soul into what they do. The food is spectacular; between three different orders, my friends and I picked and poked at each other's plates, fighting for the last bites. Worth every penny.
(5)Christine P.
This is first place I went to eat in Albuquerque, and it was just spot on in regards to the food, drinks, and service. The area is tightly placed, but there's enough seats both inside and outside. For food, we ordered the Guava Pollito and it was perfectly made with the right amount of flavor and sauce. They cut the sandwich into two pieces (so for those who are sharing, it'll be easy to split). The la del perro was a bit messy with everything pouring out with every bite, but it was worth eating and trying out for the first time. The combination of beef, avocados and plantains was so delicious and rich. The sauce that comes with the yucca fries is so good!! For drinks, we ordered the guava which tasted a little like watermelon and the OJ + mango and milk which had a sour twist to it. Both were so refreshening to drink! I would definitely come back and recommend this place.
(5)Julia R.
Awesome Cuban sandwiches! Minus a star for slow and non-attentive service.
(4)Tally E.
I decided to try this place as per fellow Yelper's recommendations, and I was not let down. I had the yucca fries and the Pernil and both were outstanding. The garlic sauce on the side is rich, fresh and absolutely addictive. So, I went again. This time, I got the Cubano and my friend got the turkey sandwich and we split them. I can't decide which of the three sandwiches I enjoyed more, but they were all fresh, authentic and mouth-watering. Minus one star because of the drink selection (or lack there of). I do not drink sugary drinks and was slightly disappointed my only other option was cucumber water. Can't wait to go back and try the Arepas!
(4)Marie B.
Great food. My daughter's friend is from Florida and wanted some authentic (Florida authentic) Cuban food. We decided to try Guava Tree Cafe. Everything on the menu looked good and customers made some excellent suggestions too. I had the Guava Pollito. Delicious and fresh. My daughter had the Caribe Turkey Sandwich. She said the turkey was moist and the ingredients mixed together well. Now for the real test...Did the Cubano hold up to being "authentic" (Florida authentic). The answer is YES!!! He said it tasted like the sandwiches he ate back home. Plus for this restaurant. They had been trying all sorts of "cubano" sandwiches and not finding any that were close to what he calls authentic. There is outdoor seating as well for warmer weather dining. We hit at the right time. It was not busy so we just walked up to the counter and ordered then sat ourselves. When we left however there was a line and people waiting. So a suggestion, read the menu and decide what you want before you arrive. The place is small, but parking is easy! Give it a try.
(5)T B.
Was here on a visit over Memorial weekend. First place I ate and last in NM. Great sandwiches and salads! I bought a sandwich to bring back with me to CA. Great food!
(5)Amy O.
Great place for lunch! I had the Cubano with the yucca fries...awesome!! We sat out on the front porch on a beautiful day in the ABQ. It was friendly environment and an amazing lunch! I try to only go to restaurants once unless their food is unforgettable The Guava Tree Cafe is a place I will come back to many more times!!
(5)Shelly A.
The Guava Tree Cafe is amazing.....great food, cool vibe, reasonable prices....they've got it all. I want to go back to try the salads and sandwiches; but it will be tough to not order exactly what I had this time because it was so delicious! Stuffed Arepas with shredded beef, avocado, sweet plantains and cheese and a side of yucca fries. The little container of dipping sauce was like garlic heaven. :)
(5)Jeremy H.
I went here for the first time today after flying in from LAX. This place was great for lunch. It's very small and there was a wait but it was definitely worth it. I haven't been to any other Cuban restaurants in town but I bet they can't feel any more authentic than this one. I had my first Cuban "café con Leche" years ago in Tampa and all the Cuban places I've been ever since we're not aware of how to make this. Well I'm glad to day I found one again and it tasted delicious!!! I had the Cuban sandwich and a side salad for lunch. Both were very delicious and more than enough to eat. Support your local small business and skip a chain restaurant to start going to this place. You won't be disappointed.
(5)Ronda B.
Better arepas than I encountered in nearly a month in Colombia. Maybe I just had bad luck...or maybe these guys are just really talented cooks!
(4)Christina W.
I finally went to the Guava Tree, and all I can say is, I don't know why I waited so long to go! I had the pollito, my friend had an arepa. The sandwich was HUGE, and I couldn't possibly eat it all, but it made for some tasty leftovers. I tasted the arepa, and I can't wait to go back and try the others (they offer 3 different types of arepas on the menu). We sat right next to the kitchen window. It's a micro space where 3 women were turning out food with a seriousness. The place is super busy, and I totally get why it is, but those women work so hard to get orders out in a timely manner, so the wait was not long at all. Super delicious food, and great portion sizes for the money. Even the water is fancy with lemon and cucumber in it. Seriously authentic place & food. I'll be making this a regular spot for sure!
(5)Charlotte C.
Yay, vegetarian options! I had la del gato arepa and a pastelillo de guayaba. The arepa tasted amazing, but the texture of the filling was so soft that it was off putting. Some crunch or chewiness on the inside would make it perfect and feel less like goop. The filling of the pastelillo on the other hand was perfect, but there were some overcooked outer edge pieces on the pastry dough. Overall Guava Tree Cafe was delicious and offers a kind of food that is otherwise impossible to find in ABQ. This is a good place to bring a friend from out of town once they get tired of green chile burgers and burritos!
(4)Ouroboros B.
I ate here a few times, and found the food to be delicious! Arepas, daily special, cafe. Slow service, but great food. Unfortunately, I fell ill after eating here the last time.
(2)Serena S.
Yum! I love stumbling across a place and having it be amazing. I had the La del Perro and my traveling companion enjoyed the Arepa Pabellón. Both were delicious! Really low key atmosphere and super friendly service. I will definitely be back!
(5)D B.
Been here a few times. They have amazing juices. They make a lemonade that is to die for. It has been the juice of the day the few times I've been there. Their sandwiches are phenomenal -- pressed with tasty ingredients. I also had the yucca fries when I was there, and they were crispy and had a lovely garlic sauce on the side. Make sure you go to the address in Yelp (it is correct) and don't try to find "Guava Tree Cafe" by name in Google Maps. It'll come up with the wrong address.
(5)Eric Y.
Wow. Absolutely blown away. Excellent food, exceptional customer service. The cafe con leche was delicious as was the cubano. We also really enjoyed the plantains. We were lucky enough to arrive before the lunch rush - this place is popular so plan accordingly. Definitely worth a visit!
(5)Janelle E.
Great food. Friendly atmosphere. I really liked the Arepa Machilla and the mango juice drink.
(5)Flozilla B.
Solid. When considering the Cuban/Columbian ethnic food ticket in Albuquerque The Guava Tree places itself solidly at the TOP of my list. I am a FAN! The new location is cozy and easy to access (right between Central Avenue and Monte Vista on Richmond). And now has parking...unlike the old location on Yale. The new building suits this restaurant very well due to the cozy warren of rooms. It is a little confusing to know which door to enter or where to order the first time. I guess a good tip would be if there are chairs and tables outside...the Guava tree is open...just wonder around inside until you find the counter piled high with blenders, flowers, ingredients and uh...menus? just a couple...but turn around, most of the menu is written on a sign on the wall. They have a self serve water container often filled with fruit or citrus to infuse the water. After a little sip we ordered (special platero $12.99 and ajiaco soup $6.50) and found our seat in the cozy yet somehow tropical main dining area. There were just a few other customers when we visited and the counter service was warm and friendly. Delicious smells wafted our way and settled in for the short wait until our food arrived. The food is what places this joint at the top of my list for authentic latin food. The special plate was enough to share with my husband, it was piled high with rice and blackbeans, plantains, avocado, salad, yuca fries and pork. Everything melded very well together and was very homemade tasting. The soup was stand out...simple chicken soup with corn and avocado, served with a little cup of cream and salty capers...very very good! It would warm you up on a winter day for sure. Overall the Guava Tree is solid. Solid vibe. Solid food.
(4)Christina C.
5 star average review? Yes! I had to try this place once I saw that, and it is well justified. Gf arepas, so tasty and dripping with juicy goodness. I had a meaty one, but they have veg-friendly options (not sure about vegan). Infused water (cucumber that day), cafe con leche, and awesome juices. Lunch buddies had a Cubano and ropa vieja special, everyone was licking their fingers and smacking their lips. Yum! I wish I lived in ABQ so I could eat here all the time. Wow!
(5)Elyse H.
Delicious, friendly staff, cozy cafe ambiance. The epitome of small business excellence. Give it a try.
(5)David R.
Most Authentic cuban food in ABQ, they make a mango smoothly that is to die for. Cuban sandwich is a knockout, met the owner who works the counter and he is down to earth and just a cool guy. Highly Highly recommend.
(5)Mark B.
Cubano sandwich is delicious, and their lemonade (made from guava perhaps) was sweet and awesome. Not the fanciest place, but the food and staff are top shelf.
(5)Jäson W.
This is a fantastic restaurant with a relaxing atmosphere. I got one of their sandwiches with pulled pork and caramelized onions, plus a Cuban coffee! The sandwich was very fresh and well prepared, just like the coffee. Overall great experience for a decent price!
(5)David L.
This is probably the best Cuban food that my wife and I have had so far in the US. My wife got the special (some kind of pork with black beans, plantains and rice and a special drink) and I got the cubano sandwich. I've had Cuban food at the best Cuban place in the Dallas area and also had some Cuban food in Miami as well. Guava Tree Cafe was better than both of those places.
(5)Erin S.
I first tried Guava Tree at the Latin Dance Festival, food truck style. I was impressed, even with their small-scale production. Going into the actual restaurant was like finding the Holy Grail. They recently relocated and the new location is a refurbished house in Nob Hill, which makes it automatically cozy. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and played a variety of salsa and reggaton music to get you in the groove. If the ambiance doesn't transport you to Latin America, the food definitely will. I recently came back from Colombia and this was the best arepas/pork/bean/avocado deliciousness that I have had since. I recommend getting the special because it's probably going to be awesome regardless of what it is. And it includes a refreshing juice drink. Hands down a must-try, especially for my fellow Latin lovers!
(5)Anderson D.
With strong influences in design and flavors from Central and South America, Guava Tree Cafe has welcomed my mouth to tastytown. The staff was very kind, helpful, and naturally conversational. The quaint seating has made for a nice lunch break and the music just put this spot over the top. I'm in town from Los Angeles on business and found this place by chance, and I'm glad I did. I highly recommended the "Pollito" and try it with a little hot sauce. If I'm back in town, I'll be definitely returning.
(5)Jordyn K.
Some of the best food I've ever had. I had their special which was rice, fried plantains, yuca fries, pulled pork, avocado, and salad for $13. So great! !
(5)consuelo w.
I was really excited to come here after reading the reviews. I want to start out by saying the food is fantastic. My aunt got a sandwich with chicken onions and cheese and it was delicious. I got an arape which was very rich and tomato-y. My only problem was the set up. The restaurant was small and awkward. To order you had to stand in line in a tiny hallway. Staff was running past every 4 seconds. The cashier was slow and didn't seem very friendly. The rest of the staff was very nice. I probably would come back as far away from lunch rush as possible.
(3)Jorge V.
This place is a must! Everything was on point! The Cuban sandwich was as good as I've ever had Got to try the pastellitos de guayaba!
(5)Nat S.
Another great restaurant that has positioned itself closer to my Nob Hill reach. Parking was an issue at the last location, and it was a bit far too walk most days. Amazing sandwiches. Cubano is legit, and I have eaten them in Miami. They have tasty non alcoholic beverages too. On the menu there is a 12$ lunch special which changes daily. We came just after they stopped serving it. We will have to go back to try it. It includes a drink. Punch card for sandwiches. Buy 10 get 1 free, and they are delicious! Yucca fries were cold, but still good. I do prefer them hot though! They are figuring out their hours, right now. I told them the what nights were busy in the Nob. in the hope of late night availability. They used to be just open for lunch, that was another issue with us getting our sandwich on more regularly. Get the cubano, you won't be disappointed!
(5)Reginald W.
The food here was indeed excellent, as per almost all of the reviews. However, given that there is no table service and most of the empty tables were not cleaned (we had to clean our own), and are truly crammed in so that it's even difficult to walk through the place, and there's no air conditioning, the prices seem unreasonably high. $7.25 for a very small medianoche sandwich, and $1.50 extra for three small pieces of sweet plantain plus $3.00 for a lemonade--all very good--seems truly excessive. Perhaps okay in a charming, comfortable somewhat upscale place with excellent service. Four stars for food. Two stars for the rest.
(3)ED R.
The Yelp reviews did not lie! On the way to airport, we had to make a stop here. The food did not disappoint. Authentic to the core!
(5)Tony S.
Some of the best hot sandwiches in town! Awesome building, great service, affordable prices, and amazing food with quality ingredients. I got the pollito sandwich and it was absolutely delicious. I will be coming here often, such a great find. :)
(5)Olga L.
Amazing sandwiches and mango juice! So satisfying. The staff is incredibly personable and happy.
(5)Paul F.
The general opinion seems to be that Guava Tree is fantastic, and after eating there once I think that opinion is well deserved. My wife and a I shared a Cubano, yucca fries, guava tree salad, and fried plantains. I'd never had a Cubano before; its an interesting sandwich. The pickles and mustard make it hard for any of the other flavors to get your attention. In this case the ham and pork succeeded, but it was hard to tell there was even cheese in the sandwich. The yucca fries and plantains were tasty, and perfect in quantity. I could have gorged myself on the fried treats, but I'm much happier being served a reasonable quantity of such things. The salad was interestingly different, with caramelized onions and roasted red peppers and a light vinaigrette. We got it with turkey, which was sliced thin, grilled, and delicious. Lastly, I got their daily special fruity drink. I expected something cloyingly sweet; what I got was a balance of citrus with just the right amount of sweetness.
(5)Ali M.
Fast, great vibe, wonderful staff and amazing food! The flavor and authenticity is out of this world.
(5)StratSwede S.
This restaurant meets my expectations as a really good hole in the wall reataurant. A bit off the Beaton path, but worth the effort to find. The fare is Latin American. Their menu has a nice selection if food and they have their daily specials on a chalk board. The employees were very friendly and the Cuban sandwich I had was very good. Crisp bread tender pork the most important qualities for this sandwich. The yucca fries were well cooked and the sauce provided was quite tastey. I will definitely go back again to explore the menu.
(4)GC C.
Limited parking, I had to pay for parking. Lots of Cuban type sandwiches but felt menu was limited. Food was good - out of flan day I visited - I like flan "casero" that's why I go out of my way. I travel a lot & Cuban food - compared to other out of state restaurants I have been to this was average overall. If I lived locally I would return but next time I'm in town for business the draw was not substantial enough for me to return.
(3)M W.
I don't write many reviews on here, but this is definitely my new favorite restaurant in ABQ. The BEST Cubano my husband or I have ever eaten. The arepas were amazing, too. Will definitely become our new go-to spot.
(5)adrienne b.
Super amazing delicious authentic food! Try the dunk of the day! Gluten free sandwiches....
(5)Sara B.
Lovely pork cuban sandwich and Cafe au Lait. Just wish it had Table service...oh well.
(5)Yvonne B.
First time visit. Great food great service. Very nice ambiance and both meat and vegetarian selection.
(5)Chancy S.
Don't let the size of this little cafe fool you. The food and drinks here are amazing. If you are wanting a taste of Cuba Guava cafe is the place.
(4)Snehal Rudra B.
Amazing little cafe that makes me happy to live in Albuquerque! I have been frequenting Guava Tree since they first opened right in Yale. Thwy have now moved to bigger digs, but thankfully the food, the service, and the ambiance remain great as ever! This is a place you come to linger over perfect cups of cafecitos with friends, or to watch futbol among other aficionados while digging into a delicious little bowl of ajiaco. The service is friendly, and the food fresh and authentic. I particularly enjoy their made from scratch arepas- pure griddled corn goodness stuffed with plantains and black beans and heaps of veggies. The meat-eaters will also surely enjoy their house smoked meats wrapped up in the arepas, or turned into highly addictive sandwiches that pair perfectly with yucca fritas. And finally the bebidas. Oh, the bebidas. Passion fruit, maracuyas, blended in milk or water. Mmmmmmmm Mmmmmmmm Mmmmmmmm! I was impressed when the server really took the time to make a perfect passion fruit juice for my picky taste (in water, tart, with minimal sugar). Seriously, the place is as good as it gets. The owners, the staff, and the food all exemplify pura Vida.
(5)Angela M.
My boyfriend and I came in on a Friday night and were able to order right away. The new building is much more charming than the previous one- brick floors and vigas. The dining room was nowhere near full- maybe six other diners. Our food came out within ten minutes and was delicious! The yucca fries were fresh and crispy (the dipping sauce is super garlicky and AMAZING) and sandwiches were tender on the inside and just the right amount of crispy on the outside. The staff were very friendly and attentive without being overbearing.
(5)Matthew L.
This is the way food is supposed to be. These folks really put A LOT! of passion into their food. I had the Cubano with the yucka fries and I have rarely been so satisfied with a first-time meal experience. I've never tried Cuban foods before and the food here was absolutely delicious. The yucka fries were cooked perfectly and came with a garlic and herb sauce that completely blew me away. The sandwich was absolutely beautiful, I could immediately taste the quality of the meats and the wonderful flavors come together on a bread that was deliciously prepared with love and patience. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone and am going to be a repeat customer.
(5)Adree T.
Service is at awkward at best but the unique food and especially the cafe con leche more than make up for it
(5)Moira T.
Phenomenal Cuban sandwiches. My husband had the rice and beans and said the beans were cooked perfectly. We will be back!
(5)Jennifer O.
Delicious. The ingredients are fresh, and everything I've have here so far (Pernil sandwich, arepas, yucca fries and agua frescas) was delicious. The beef is extremely tender and flavorful; the masa for the arepas was crispy; and the yucca fries were perfectly fried with a tasty dipping sauce. The food I'd adjust very satisfying/filling. The staff is friendly, and I love the ambience with the surprisingly comfortable wooden chairs and tables and Spanish/Caribbean music. I'd definitely recommend this place.
(5)Joshua A.
Small and family owned, feels like a real family friendly place, authentic with cultural feel :)
(5)Tessa F.
The Luciano sandwich is delicious with caramelized onions, roasted peppers, provolone cheese, chimichurri sauce and an avocado/garlic sauce. Get the yucca (pronounced you-cca) fries. They are flavorful. Great atmosphere and music. Very helpful staff and friendly owner!
(5)Kelsey M.
Absolutely wonderful!! I've loved this place since they were on Yale Blvd.-- The service is great, the owner is super cool, the food is always delicious!! The Plantains are my favorite and their cafe con leche is to die for!!
(5)Yan C.
Everything seems to be very simple, yet exceptional. We had Cabanos, Polito and a salad. It's simply amazing. The taste is quite exotic and stands out. Everyone here is very friendly and helpful. The only knock on the place is that the bathroom is the smallest I've ever seen.
(5)Dan P.
Amazing! 5 stars! I had an arepa with yucca fries and a guava drink for lunch. It was so yummy. And the cafe smelled so good. Highly recommend this place for lunch if you are ever in Albuquerque.
(5)Karo F.
After driving around for 30 minutes looking for this place, my GPS instructions were wrong, they moved from location so they are now at the intersection of Central and Richmond. Since so many Yelp reviews recommended this place, I wanted to try it out and see what the fuss was about. I ordered a Cubano sandwich with yucca fries, and a mango batido (smoothie). I really liked the sandwich (plenty of meat, mustard & pickles) and the smoothie, the fries were just OK (actually kind of stiff and cold), they served me around 4-5 fries. The sandwich could feed two people for lunch (depending on your appetite), or if you finish it, you will be a stuffed turkey just like I was after I finished it all! The ambience was relaxed & family friendly, when i visited they were playing Spanish reggae music, the majority of the staff was friendly, and there were plenty of seats either inside or in the patio. I met a gentleman sitting next to me with his dog, and he mentioned he likes this place because they are dog friendly, so if you want to bring your furry friend along you are welcome here. Overall I will recommend the sandwich for sure, not the fries, and the smoothie is kind of pricey (plus I had better). For the three items plus a small tip I paid $19.60 for ONE PERSON, I think that's too much to visit often, maybe once in a blue moon I'll come back here. I recommend to try it at least once.--Ohh and be ready to pay for street parking!
(3)Brittany P.
Tres leches, cafe con leche, pernil sandwich, Cuban sandwich, tostones with chimi sauce! Everything was delicious!
(5)Cameron S.
Little hole in the wall tucked into a Nob Hill side street. Cuban sandwiches are absolutely amazing, and the price is cheap. Don't forget to get a side of rice and beans. Filling, nice patio, happy servers who know their shit.
(4)Tom E.
The best forget the rest! Had the chicken Cubano with mushrooms, onions, garlic. Friendly staff great music.
(5)Tim L.
So when I mentioned to the waitress that they had 5 stars on Yelp, she didn't know what I was talking about. This place doesn't try to be special, it just is. There are no free deserts for "signing in on yelp" .. This is just a simply quaint gem. Food is delicious, authentic, filling, reasonably priced. 'Hole-in-the-wall' is not the right term ... I'd say mosaic-on-the-wall.
(5)Geraldine D.
First time eating because I heard good things about this restaurant. New location is cozy, but still a little tight on space. I ate at the counter which was a bonus because I got special attention from Diego, one of the owners. Ordered the medianoche with fried yucca. But unknowingly got the turkey avocado which was still delicious. After I was almost finished eating the staff realized I mistakenly got the wrong sandwich. Diego was gracious to give me the original sandwich I ordered for free to take home. The medianoche was also good when I ate it later for dinner. I especially enjoyed the fried yucca, so much better than fries! Will be back to try more!

Visited from Austin last week based on Yelp reviews. We were blown away. While the food was amazing and pleased even my picky eater of a daughter, I really enjoyed the coffee. We went twice in 4 days, and got the "bowl" of coffee.

Stopped in after a day exploring Albuquerque. The food and service is fantastic! Such a friendly staff. I recommend the Arepa del Perro with yucca fries and a guava y agua smoothie.

I LOVE guava tree's arepas. LOVE LOVE LOVE them. Enough to MARRY them. Then eat them. OOO and don't even get me started on that tastey salsa in the little plantain cup.

A liitle bit expensive for the size but the food were really good. We tried de Cubano and The Turkey sandwich and they were delicious.

All I can say is WOW! Surprised the office the other day with Cuban sandwiches. Everyone was impressed. Settled for the plantains as they were out of yucca fries. Best and most authentic in town. Go now and get you some!

This is my favorite place for lunch. Just thinking about the stuffed arepas makes my mouth water. This is one of the best hidden gems in AQB. Definitely get some fried plantains with your meal!

Went on a whim. The menu didnt seem super appealing, but yeeeeikes they delivered. We got this combo plate (I had the lady order for us) and a little sandwhich... terribly ambiguous I'm sorry, but they were insanely delicious! Can't wait to come back. Also, spa water. Delightful.

The cafecitos are amazing, food is absolutely fantastic and the staff is very welcoming and attentive. It's mostly counter service as it tends to get too busy during lunch. My favorite arepa is la del perro... Mmmm so good. The fried yucca is a must also. I'd love to give it 5 stars but the ventilation is not very good and you tend to leave the restaurant smelling of fried food, but otherwise I love this place. :)

I went to the original and then checked out the new location. (Followed them!) Excellent service but it's the arepa I crave! So good! The Cuban sandwich and yucca fries are also craveable and you can take guava pastries to go! Mmmmmmm!

It was a pleasure to have lunch here. Lunch, coffee and dessert were amazing and had a great chat with Diego, the man behind the recipes...

This place is everything a restaurant should be. The service is excellent and personable. It's a great price for the amount of food you get. Not to mention the food is authentic and delicious! I will come here every Albuquerque trip.

I am gaga over this place. The women in the kitchen are busy making the arepas by hand. The food arrives piping hot, and the Cuban bread used for the sandwiches has a wonderful crunch to it. The Cubano has the perfect combination of thinly sliced meats and cheese, pickles and mustard. I do believe it's the best I've ever had-- and that includes the many I've tried in Miami. The restaurant interior is a charming mix of New Mexican and a little bit of the Caribbean. And the staff is lovely. Oh, and yes, the yucca fries with the dipping sauce are a must try.

Just ate at Guava Tree for the first time and I'll be back! My turkey sandwich was everything it should be, and my friend shared some of her yucca fries - next time I'm getting my own!

I didn't know what to expect from this restaurant since I didn't know what constituted Latin/Caribbean cuisine. But boy were my taste buds in for a treat. I tried the Arepa sandwich since it's what the proprietor recommended. The cornmeal patties that make up the outer part of the sandwich were reminiscent of the maize of tamales, so the flavor was close to home. Then you add the filling: shredded beef, avocado, sweet plantains, and cheese. This is where the tamale analogy is not only extended - but vaulted on a platform of flavors. The sandwhich was also served with a little fried plaintain cup filled with a salsa-esque combo. I will definitley be going back to explore these flavors.

This was a very cute cafe. I ordered the arepa del perro which had beef, cheese, and plantains in it along with Yuca fries. I thought the arepa was really good, very savory and delicious. The fries were only okay, they were cold but I thought everything else was very good. The atmosphere is very cozy.

The food was excellent, tasted like it was made from fresh ingredients and presented wonderfully. The hostess was super nice and gave me excellent advice on picking from the menu, very helpful! Thanks!

Great food!! I got the Arepas Machilla. Flavor and texture was fantastic!! Tried to stop by when this place was opening, but the wait was too long. Finally made it here and couldn't be more impressed! Fabulous drink menu and juices. Definitely get the yucca fries as a side! The owner and staff are so personable. Stop by for sure if you are in the area. If you're not quite in the area it is definitely worth the trip!! Bon appetite!!

Good arepas and many options for meat lovers and light eaters/vegetarians alike. We will be back. Good place to "hang" with wifi and conversation.

Great food, great service, reasonable prices, Guava Tree is the best Latin food in Burque.

Had the Pernil with fries. Very tasty!!!! Been here twice and both times they hit the mark! Definitely recommending it!

Amazing, tasty food. Fresh, well made and flavorful. The sandwiches and arepas are delicious. We also had the salad which was fresh and the grilled onions really added flavor. Prices are great for the amount of food served. The cafe con leche is some of the best I have ever tried. I highly recommend this place! Plus, they play great music- salsa, bachata and reggaeton. We will be back for sure!!

Authentic Cuban restaurant. The upbeat vibe is so contagious. Love the cozyness, music, the owner and workers are very knowledgeable and helpful with preparing vegan food and also without certain other ingredients we are allergic to as well. The food is incredible. We ordered the Arepa Machilla with no cheese. It's like the most delicious sandwich made with corn bread for those who are gluten free. We ordered just boiled yuca. It's delicious this way, reminds me of a potato. The plantains here are cooked perfectly. love this place! What a great find!

I just ate at the new location and delicious as ever. Still small which gives it that great local feeling that I love, but a lot more seating. They take time in preparing the food it is always so scrumsh. I am pleased that they are doing well and got a new place. Differently a place to go on a regular bases. I recommend the Arepas, they are my favorite with a mango vanilla smoothie.

PLEASE READ THEN DECIDE IF YOU STILL WANT TO TRY IT: I had been looking forward to trying this place out for a while. I was very disappointed that there wasn't any available parking left. The waitress wanted to help me and got the owner. The owner was very hesitant in helping me out. "All she has to do is pay 1 dollar and park in the big lot." I felt her statement was very belittling towards me, as if I didn't know that already. In which I replied, I didn't have the cash on hand to do so, but she ignored me. My friend who had arrived before me, had no choice but to park next to a huge dumpster and by a gated entry. Thus making it difficult to not block off part of the gate. I asked the owner if she could open up the gate. I also told the owner that my friend would move her car. The owner rudely said, "Doesn't she know how to read?" I responded, "Of course she knows how to read. That was very insulting and rude." She claimed that my friend, who was a recent retired teacher, couldn't read. We were potential customers and she didn't care about how she treated us. So I told her to forget it and that we would go elsewhere. The lady's attitude was hostile, inconsiderate, and inhospitable. I refused to support a place that can treat people with such disrespect and insensitivity. What's worse is that I had invited my friend to dine there for her recent retirement and unfortunately both walked away very disheartened.

Fabulous Cuban comfort food. Portions are generous, ingredients are fresh, flavors are above expectation. But, the absolute best part of Mango is the service. The folks running this place are some of the warmest and friendliest in our city. Good people, great food = good memories.

A wonderful authentic Cuban experience. The chicken & turkey sandwiches were very tasty, as were the totones w garlic aioli. Mango & passion fruit smoothies we perfection. Highly recommended!

Ordered the daily special. Bowl of rice, black beans, seasoned pork, and tomato salad with a side of fried yucca. So delish! Amazing flavor, large portion, highly recommend! After we were done, the owner stopped by to ask if we'd like coffee & brought us 2 cups of cafe con leche on the house. It's the best coffee I've had in a while. We saw other items coming out of the kitchen that looked equally yummy and is like to come try one of their sandwiches. It's a semi tight dining room, but there is outdoor seating as well. I'll be back!

Absolutely fantastic! I would have paid many times what I did for this amazing meal. The proprietor, Diego, could not have been more gracious. The Cuban coffee, cafe con leche, is not to be missed. The yuca fries were a treat. Can't remember the name of my main meal, but it was fabulous! We're so lucky to have the Guava Tree Cafe in Albuquerque!

Great relaxed atmosphere - excellent strong columbian iced espresso and cafe con leche. The caribe turkey sandwich and the mechillas are great.
