Delicious Slop! Garcias saving grace is the chiles and its prices. Both their red and their green are some of the best in Albuquerque. The only trouble is, the vehicle for the chile is some of the more sloppy New Mexican food in Albuquerque. On our most recent trip, I ordered my usual: the beef and bean burrito with extra red and green chile, and although I liked it, it was definitely not the most refined burrito one can find in NM. Their refritos are just kind of mush. My wife order the huevos, and same thing applies to her dish. I also had an a la carte chile relleno, and it was greasy. But again, when smothered in their chiles, I can still give it 3-4 stars. The chips and salsa are just okay...greasy chips, serviceable salsa. Their service is always decent... very friendly, if not the most attentive. And the ambiance is very much diner-esque. Not exactly a classy date-night kind of place, but they're not pretending it's that kind of place either. Which brings me to the prices... it's one of the more reasonable places to eat on North 4th (and all of their other locations, I imagine). So I have to give it 4 stars, even though it's the quintessential New Mexican slop food. Sometimes, however, that's exactly what I feel like. Visited June 2014

I've eaten here several times and not yet have had a bad meal. The chili is hot but not inedible, sopapillas are freshly made, beans tasty, wait staff is friendly and efficient. Prices are reasonable and have Monday-Friday specials. If your looking for a good bowl of menudo Garcia's a good place for a nice big bowl.

Garcia's has always been consistent and predictable if nothing else. The food isn't fancy but it's good New Mexican fare and the prices are great. There are a ton of locations so you never really have to wait long and there's always more than enough staff to get you taken care of.

I love Garcias, the food is fresh, large portions, quality ingredients. Very affordable. Best chips and salsa I've ever had, I know a bold statement but it's true. I recommend this place to family's and anyone very hungry for great Hispanic food.

This is an interesting place. It's very much like a diner. A New Mexican diner. The food was pretty good, although not the hottest thing I've ever eaten. I had the plate of cheese enchilada, beef taco and pork tamale. It was served with rice and beans. It wasn't bad. It wasn't amazing. I really just wish it had been hotter. The service was kind of apathetic, but maybe that was just because I was alone. Who knows. I would try somewhere else if I'm ever in town again.

Garcia's is an institution and is a must-do for visitors seeking authentic, local New Mexican food. My favs here: anything with carne adovada, their posole, chicarrone burrito with potatoes and cheese and red chile, and of course their amazing house made tortillas--just like grandma makes!

After driving 12 hours from LA I stopped in for a New Mexico Food fix. I ordered two combo plates to go from the cashier. They were not busy. When I got home I found I only had one order and so I called immediately. The same cashier answered the phone and as she was the one to put the food in the bag, she remembered me. Said I could come back the next day and get a refund or replacement. Today I went back and they had no record of my complaint. and offered me a discount on the next meal! Obviously the cashier was covering her ass, and the Manager, Michael didn't seem interested in fixing it. After arguing with him and leaving and returning he relented and gave us a combo plate. The food is okay, not great, I liked the enchilada but the tamale had no flavor and the taco meat needs seasoning, a little cumin salt and red chili would go a long way.

My dude and I sat at the bar so we wouldn't have to wait for a booth during the Sunday rush. I ordered an egg and chorizo burrito with cheese on top. We waited around fifteen minutes which is more than fine due to the hungry crowd. Upon our food being brought, my boyfriend digs in to his, I look at my plate and I'm puzzled just an egg burrito, no chorizo, no cheese. I may add, I hate sending food back. I usually bare with it and just eat it. I tell them this immediately. I wait around ten more minutes and the almost annoyed busy waitress brings me back a burrito with chorizo... Sprinkled with ten shreds of unmelted cheese. No apologies, no questions on how it looks or if I need anything else. It was so cold; cold and sad egg chorizo burrito. After my burrito was dropped off my waitress never came back. I had to ask a busboy for a to go box for my uneaten food. I gave this place two stars because my dogs seem to not mind the cold egg and chorizo.

The evenings are getting cooler. It's time for stew - green chile stew! I hadn't been to Garcia's in awhile so decided to see if they could satisfy my craving. Bingo! Their green chile stew is flavorful with just the right amount of heat. Not too salty either, which is usually how soup gets mistreated. The service was attentive and friendly. This isn't an upscale spot, so leave the suit and tie in the closet. Be comfy - enjoy some New Mexican comfort food and leave with some money left in your wallet. Oh - one nice, thoughtful touch: they provide a list of their gluten-free items. I'll be back!

This is the second time their point of sale system is down and instead of doing paper receipts and taking care of us they are making us wait for their computer to come back up. Management think of the customer first instead of being lazy.

Garcia's kitchen is one of those places most New Mexicans will tell you about, especially if they're from Albuquerque. It ranks up there in the pantheon of ABQ eateries known from generation to generation as good place to get good food. There are a few locations for Garcia's which is both a blessing and a curse. You like having greater access, but one wonders if the quality can be sustained across multiple locations. In my experience, Garcia's manages this little juggling act pretty well. The food is consistently good, but sometimes the service wavers. So, it's a bit of a trade-ff. More Garcia's food, sometimes spotty service. Meh, whatcha gonna do? This particular Garcia's is OK for decor. Our server kind of forgot about us, but that was fine because I was busy inhaling huevos locos. It is nice that you pay by tixket at the counter though, since that negates having to wait for an inattentive server to check you out.

I nomally like their food...it's pretty good and pretty fairly priced. But my last experience was disappointing.What the heck?! I tried to order a bean and cheese burrito to go and they didn't bother to roll it so it just fell open all over me...I asked them to correct it and it happened again...grr...I didn't want to WEAR my burrito!

Was there for breakfast today and the chips and salsa were awful. With Sadie's and Casa de Benavides being down the street, I just really don't think this place has a shot. Do yourself a favor and go up the street for much better New Mexican food!

Good, simple food. Nothing fancy, just a good meal at a good price. They offer a huge bowl of green chile stew but I must admit I've liked it better at other places. The chile relleno, on the other hand, was superb. Friendly staff, clean place, good service. I wouldn't say it's worth driving across town for, but I'd go again if I was nearby.

I'm addicted to the red chile here. As is my boss who is a red chile fiend (he loves red on everything including his mashed potatoes). The service is consistently great. The prices are reasonable. The food is very good.

new to the area and exploring the local "faves" but this place was just so filthy ..maybe just this one ?? made the mistake of going to the bathroom and there was literally mold growing out of the wall ..took a peak at the kitchen and it just looked so grimy .. food to me at least was bland and average def much better places..

But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
