A great setting with a very comfortable atmosphere. The breakfast sandwich was spot on. Crispy toasted bagel and moist eggs with some heat from spice. Coffee was a little burnt tasting. My colleague asked for simple scrambled eggs and got exactly what she asked for. Outside or inside choice for seating is a nice feature.

Flying Star Cafe. I eat at this location sporadically. Mainly with my teenage daughter, who ever since having a Blondie cupcake at age nine chooses this as our mother and daughter date location. The food has always been good. The service at times is also good. It could be better. I am never sure why I am tipping the cashier. Maybe just have waiters? The facility is clean, the decor is bright. The prices, this is where I am always a bit thrown off. Flying Star is expensive. For me, along the lines of did I just pay $42.00 for two people to eat sandwiches and cupcakes? Yeah, I did. Because if it takes me buying a cupcake or two to hang with my teen, so be it. It is a small price to pay. Sure, it's local. But there are far yummier, more economical, whole food choices in town. Will I be back? You betcha. Those cupcakes are good. I just can't wait for her to turn to me at the counter and say, " I got this one, Mom". Now that is something to look forward to.

My mom and I love this place! It's our favorite lunch spot. It's a bit pricey but the food is always delicious. But... PLEASE change the Affogato back!!!!! It's horrible now. It used to be authentic, with warm espresso poured over a scoop of ice cream in front of you, and now it's a very large ice cream Sunday with lots of whipped cream and some ice cold, too sweet espresso puddling at the bottom. It's nearly impossible to drink. It used to be my favorite thing here.

Oh...Flying Star...You used to be the place to go back in the day...But then you messed with the menu, changed out your breads and rolls and replaced them with what tastes like day old bakery rejects. Seriously...why did you mess with the sourdough rolls? The pretzel rolls are flavorless and do nothing for your sandwiches. The salads are good, but overpriced. Believe me when I say DO NOT get anything with breading (fish, chicken on salads, etc.)! I have had better breading from my local grocery store's frozen section. They also screwed up their rewards card which started out rewarding you with $$ off for a certain amount spent over time. Then they switched it to free dessert as I recall; now...you give them your card, they swipe it...and nothing ever happens. Last...their desserts...which are still pretty tasty (the bread pudding is to die for)...They don't list most of the prices in the dessert case because they don't want you to know that you spent about $8 on a teeny piece of cake. And the portion sizes of those expensive desserts have also shrunk. It's a shame they have gone so far downhill. Here's hoping someone comes in and fixes all of the mistakes they have made and will get it back to how it was a few years ago.

Breakfast, one of my other fav meals. I haven't been here for breakfast in awhile, so here I am. My meal took longer than usual, even thou it's not crowded. Ordered the ranch breakfast and it's as good as before. A full platter of yummy. The eggs were scrambled and fluffy, turkey sausage has the green chile bite, and their homemade strawberry jam is perfect on the rye toast. Full tummy time!

I'll be the first to admit, Flying Star has some of the best pastries in town, but be forewarned, don't go here for Mexican. Yesterday, I ordered Huevos Rancheros and if this was their interpretation, it really was piss-poor. It came with 2 corn tortillas at the bottom, maybe 2 tablespoon of red sauce, small pinto beans spread through the skimpy sauce and the eggs atop all this. Home fries were arranged on the outer edge of the plate and some were actually burned black. The whole thing was as dry as a burnt piece of toast. The eggs were cooked medium and the yolks hardly flowed at all. No seasoning that I could taste, but they did throw some cheese and garnish on top, I guess for decoration because it was kind of tasteless too. The mango iced tea was good and I drank 2 glasses trying to wash down this sad excuse for Huevos Rancheros. Doesn't even qualify to be called that. This was just some out-of-left field idea of an egg dish. Going to Mary & Tito's for New Mexican.

What a difference a couple of months can make and not in a good way. Let me just start off by saying that I have always thought of flying star as being one of the nicer mid priced places to eat at around town. Tonight's food quality was not up to par. I decided to have the NM burger which is priced at $10 and comes with fries. My evening was good until I took a bite of this piece of imitation charcoal. I seriously have not eaten a burger this charred since my drunk cousin tried making blowtorch burgers. Yuck! It could have been good if the meat was not so overcooked. After I picked off the burnt, hard crust I had about a quarter of the burgers original mass. On the other hand, I tried to cleanse my pallet by trying a piece of key lime cheesecake and that was really good as all of the desserts have always been. And now they actually throw in a free drink to compensate for the 7 bones each dessert item costs. So overall 5 stars for the sweets 1 star for the piece of coal (burger). I do recommend them for dessert but be careful with the entrees.

Wow - this place has really gone south. It was one of our favorite stops but they have changed the menu, the staff is rude (side talking to one another, ignoring customers) and the place is dirty. At 4 pm every booth was dirty - tables had stuff spilled underneath them and dirty cloths were left (where I guess someone started to clean it up, but probably got distracted by laughing with a co-worker). I had to repeat almost every aspect of my order because the staff were doing so much side talking to one another about their tips, staffing, etc. I felt as if I was an intruder in the conversation. Perhaps less talking and more customer service, busing tables and focusing on quality food would help. Appalling considering the prices they are charging. This is the kind of experience I expect at McDonalds, but at least the cost would be much less. We will likely not be back for a while and hope that something changes.

Flying star taste pretty much the same at all locations. The employees say that there's a commissary that makes all their pies and delicious cakes. The price point is quite high, hence the 3 star review. I'd frequent more often if it didn't affect my wallet as much for just a slice and a cup of joe.
(3)John R.
This is my favorite place in the city. The atmosphere is hospitable and friendly as is the impeccable service. The outdoor patio has a unique local ambience with a European flavor. There is always eclectic and soothing music playing on the sound system that is consciously selected by someone with keen music and aesthetic sensibilities. Of course, there is the marvelous variety of tasty, wholesome, and locally produced food. A perfect complement to a delightful cafe experience that offers a respite from the ordinary and uninspired eatery.
(5)Danielle D.
I love everything about Flying Star except the prices. For breakfast, try the southwest Bennie or French toast. For lunch, you can't go wrong with a burger and lite greens with tomatillo vinaigrette. Of course, all of their desserts are amazing! They have a variety of seasonal dishes that you should try while they're available, and a decent selection of vegan and gluten free options (for meals...desserts, not so much). Sometimes I like to come here and just order a pot of tea. It's a cute setup with the teapot, cup and saucer, and will last you several hours. One note on this specific location: it gets very busy, of course on the weekends but also on week nights. Bring your bike during busy times for easy parking. This location also has an awesome patio and nice weather thanks to its proximity to the river.
(4)Robin K.
Always delicious! And if it is not they will make it right. Nice people yummy food try Jean's greens yummy!
(5)J S.
We had to move outside in 100 degree weather because they wouldn't turn on the air conditioner. It was miserable inside. Seriously, with your prices I would think you could turn the air on for your guests. We couldn't get out of there fast enough. I really felt bad for your employees having to work with that heat.

Events of the day took us from easy chairs in the highly caffeinated, crowded Satellite, to a booth at the Flying Star across the street. There's a review for another Flying Star buried among my Yelp*s. I really enjoy these restaurants. After my coffee and very good bran muffin with a modern, politically correct name at Satellite, I decided to follow the lead of my co-diners and have a Flying Star breakfast burrito. They got petite, polite breakfast burrito snacks at the Satellite. My Flying Star burrito was three times larger. It was satisfying. I took half for the road. If you're in the area and want a suburban spot that's architecturally modern, arty, welcoming, calming and fun, I encourage you to try Flying Star.
(4)Chris L.
Unfortunately, the quality and consistency at Flying Star is really slipping. It's still a great location with great atmosphere and friendly staff, but the food just keeps getting worse. I've been a loyal FS customer since it was called "Double Rainbow" and it seems the quality over the last couple years is declining. Food is often undercooked, very greasy, and almost always over-salted like they're trying to cure it. The management is always more than willing to send out a replacement for the poorly prepped food, but it's getting a little old waiting on half of my meal to be re-cooked. Sad to see this ABQ staple going downhill.
(2)Scott R.
Great comfortable atmosphere and wide selection of food, including for vegetarians. Nice patio seating area outside that also has WiFi. I stop off every time I'm in Albuquerque.
(5)Kristie A.
Stopped in for coffee and ordered an Americano and a Drip Coffee... Usually an Americano will be a stronger coffee but in this instance it tasted more like tea. The drip coffee was a tiny bit stronger. Definitely not impressed with either. If your going to specialize in coffee and desserts the coffee should rock! And the selection of coffee drinks to choose from should be more than just plain coffee :(
(3)Ashley E.
Worst experience at this location on Sunday. I ordered the Southwest Bennie, which used to be my favorite thing ever. This time it came out late (the server came out and apologized for it taking a crazy long time), and the worst presentation ever. It looks like the just slopped everything on the plate. I paid an extra $1.99 for an extra side of tomatoes. They gave me TWO super thin slices of tomato from the butt ends of the tomato...ew. The prices have gone up and the quality has gone WAY down. I may not go back again.

Flying Star Cafe is a great place to grab a desert and a coffee. They also serve some good dishes. My family and I come here every so often. I had to try a few different dishes to finally write this review. We recently went on a Sunday morning and of course there was a line. It was no big deal, because I had no idea what I wanted to order. I really like that this place has a counter to order at and then you seat yourself. This is my favorite restaurant setup. We ordered our food. My wife ordered the huevos rancheros and I had the southwest Benny. When you enter this place you are immediately blasted with a nice coffee aroma. The place was packed. There were a lot of people studying. I am assuming because it was finals time. Here is what I like about the breakfast at this place. It is a good meal! It's not just an egg dish surrounded with a heaping pile of hash browns. There is a restaurant here in the 'Burque that just throws a pile of potatoes and calls it a day. I won't say any names. The southwest benny was amazing with fresh ingredients, and the English muffin wasn't even soggy. This place can be a bit pricey, but that's the price you pay for a dish that isn't loaded up with hash browns. They also have an amazing desert selection. This location also has a big open patio area. If you are in the area you have to check it out. Cheers!

Flying Star's food has always been excellent. Today, however, I'm very dissatisfied with their pricing policy and their inflexibility. I wanted to order a range breakfast which consists of two eggs and either two sausages or three slices of bacon. I wanted one sausage and one slice of bacon. They refused to accommodate me and insisted on selling me the bacon and adding a side of sausage. This is very infuriating and makes me very reluctant to come back.
(4)Marqui R.
I love the patio of this flying star location. Its great for a sunday brunch and it is incredibly busy but the line to order goes quick. The food here is great. I usually get the buddah bowl from here but i've also tried some of their breakfast dishes and been just as pleased.
(4)Wayne R.
Above average food, over priced. Service at the counter was a joke, 20 people in line and one of the order takers is handing out free samples, another drying glasses, one walking back and forth like she's lost and one taking orders! After a 20 min. wait they all move to the counter and start taking orders, while apologizing for the wait!

It seems as though Flying Star has become an Albuquerque standby. They have a great menu, and the biggest dessert counter you'll find in town. If you're a breakfast person, the Star serves it all day. They also have an extensive list of salads, sandwiches, and hot entrees as well. The Garden Harvest is one of my favorites--very light, healthy, and great-tasting. Their Enchilada Stack is also surprisingly good. The only thing that's always perplexed me about Flying Star is why they don't expand their coffee menu. As the owners of Satellite, you'd think they'd at least have a handful of options that bridge the gap between both restaurants, but that's not the case. With such an awesome dessert counter, you'd think this would be something Flying Star would jump on, but alas, they haven't. You won't get anything beyond a cafe latte here. If you're only going for dessert, beware of walking in twenty minutes before they close, especially on a weekend. At times the counter is completely bare, having sold out an hour or two before. And if you want to bring Fido during the summer, feel free. You can't take pets inside, but the "petio" is doggie friendly. They even provide water bowls.

Update: so, I must be a glutton for punishment, and I really do need to set some restaurant boundaries, like a three strikes thing. That said, I came back to FS for an after movie drink and dessert. First, the counter service was great, nice, friendly, and informative. The dessert rack was ravaged! Not too many options, which in my mind, is a great sign! So, the choice was either the bread pudding with vanilla ice cream and hot rum sauce or coconut cream pie. Thankfully, better sense prevailed, and we got the pudding. It was solid. A good choice. The only thing I might suggest is not sweetening the rum sauce to the degree that was presented, as it did overwhelm at times. That said, the pecan streusel topping and ice cream rum sauce concoction was good. I am now faced with an unfortunate situation. I feel they can put out a great dessert, but I wonder what would have happened had I ordered the special, which sounded delicious. It was fish tacos, and while that is a high risk menu item, if you can get it right, then everything else will be good. I am vexed. Should I try a meal, or just drop in for dessert? Never lives up to expectations, and for the cost, there are many better options. I can say that I have been consistently underwhelmed by this restaurant. I am stunned that they can consistently get business at their price point considering that the food is more reminiscent of a bad IHOP.

Prices have gone up - portions are too large. Today the high was 70 degrees and the fire place inside is blazing. Skeleton crew at this location. Unfortunate because this used to be our favorite place to meet up with Friends and Family. Due to short staffing we stood in line for 15+ minutes just to place our order - Chef cooking and serving food to outdoor customers. Horrible experience!
(1)Amanda S.
Flying Star has great food, beverages and sweet treats. However, everything is over priced. I would probably eat here more if it wasn't so expensive.
(4)Craig E.
Flying Star food has definitely improved in the past 5 years. I'm impressed with the quality of ingredients and the more health conscious offerings. I'm more likely to go these days.
(3)Teresa T.
This place never ceases to amaze me. Their authentic New Mexican cuisine mixed with fine cuisine that you would see at $40 a plate restaurants combine to make fantastic food! Their pies and dessert are among the best I've ever tasted. I crave their fruit tarts on a weekly basis, but as I don't live in Albuquerque anymore I no longer can acquire on a weekly basis. My bank account appreciates me though as a meal here can get pretty pricey quickly with the side of deliciousness here and a slice of sweet awesomeness there, etc.

I've been to a Flying Star twice in the nearly 21 years I've lived in the ABQ area. Both times I've left saying I wouldn't go back. Lunch - I appreciate that this place has lots of offerings for vegetarians and vegans, but I don't get that they also nearly ignore us carnivores. I ordered a chicken breast sandwich that was barely edible - be warned: they grind up the chicken then form it into a patty with some unidentifiable spices that are too warm for chicken. This atrocity is stacked on a pretzel bun (what IS the fascination with pretzel buns, all of a sudden? They aren't that great) with avocado and cheese and cole slaw. The slaw was the best part. Onion rings were good, just insufficient quantity. Insufficient ice in the drinks melted before the beverage was half-finished. I was wondering if I could get a refill--probably not. I was a guest of a friend and there were three of us---the check was over $42.00! The prices are outrageous---a sandwich with fries, a salad with no meat, and a Buddha bowl with no meat. The inside is noisy with lousy accoustics. The patio is a nice area, except with the wind and it is sort of difficult to navigate with the large boulders blocking the pathways. We were lucky enough to sit in the shade of a lovely tree. Flying Star is, to me, overpriced and overrated. It's a local restaurant trying to be a national star and hasn't made it yet. Be warned, service is non-existent!!!
(2)Becca P.
Mexican mocha is amazing, as I've said before. Bf had the tofu tacos which were delightful!
(5)Marisa B.
I like everything about this place (& have now been to two of the locations). It meets all of my main criteria for an eating establishment, with the added bonus of being very descriptive with their menu items that include "Gluten-Not" which is the equivalent to what most places choose to label "gluten free". But in reality, unless the kitchen itself is completely free of gluten, the possibility of cross-contamination is very likely. The menu & signage at Flying Star speaks to the "gluten-not" options, vegan, humanely farmed/natural/hormone free meats, and cage free eggs that they use. The menu itself is actually pretty huge. I love variety, so while it did cause some delay while I faced the usual dilemmas, I was thrilled to have so many choices. You can satisfy just about any craving at Flying Star, be it breakfast, lunch, snacks, desserts, or comfort food. Our service was good, and we would definitely go back. You order at the counter FYI - so it's not a "sit down" full service place. But that worked just fine for us. We managed to grab a very filling late night meal, in an efficient manner, as well as meeting folks for a morning breakfast.
(3)Rich C.
Once again something behind the counter looked fantastic, but when I went to eat it it was only so-so. Still, flying star is a nice place to hang out, and the good is never bad, it's just that it's never really good.
(3)Brendan L.
Flying Star has been a pretty consistent staple for many years, but I wanted to give a shout out to the manager. We bought a pie for family Christmas, which unfortunately grew mold in only two days and we discovered it before serving. I was pretty pissed, but brought the pie back. A very apologetic manager gave me a gift card for more than the pie and a couple of coffee drinks on the house. It's nice to see customer service is still a priority these days, and I may even give them a second chance with a holiday pie!
(4)Colleen C.
Petio...Need I say more? Well, yes. Greek Goddess salad is ample, fresh and delish! Four desserts, with no leftovers. Attractive, attentive and possibly addictive.
(5)Emilia V.
Everything I have ever gotten from flying star has been amazing. Their pancakes are something not of this earth. And every slice of cake is truly an amazing experience for all your senses. Try the Bread Pudding, or the chocolate mouse cake. Delicious!!!
(5)Phil B.
My wife and I love going to Flying Star for breakfast on weekends or really any meal anytime. Their food is great and the atmosphere is fun.
(5)D.G. H.
Food is surprisingly good. It is a unique concept. This place is what Panera Bread should be... But if you are looking for a coffee shop, GO ELSEWHERE! Their logo is a coffee cup. A Little deceiving, I feel like they over promised with the coffee cup, but then over delivered with the food and ambiance. I really love the concept, especially have magazines that you can read and buy as you eat or just drink a coke. The only thing I could not stand is in all of the stores I've been in so far, they really need to turn the air conditioning on to a lower temp. I know your kitchen is open to the public and that is part of the problem, but don't skip on the air! I'm sure in the winter this place will be perfect, but the summer is lacking in the air department... of course you can always eat outside, but come on, fat hairy people need air conditioning... besides you do know we give you more business, right? The desserts and the Red Stuff drink is great. Extremely over priced and no refills, but great flavor! My tips are... be sure to register your frequent earter card online, so anyone in your family can put "points" towards it. Register for their internet, and remember your username and password... and that will work for all of the Flying Star Cafe's and Satellite Coffees in the area. (I really do not like this having a user name and password specifically for this company. A little too big brother for me. Just give us free Wifi and lets us sign on.
(4)Abby K.
You want to love Flying Star, but they just miss the target on so many levels. I've been to this location several times because it's in a great location. They are lucky to have that going for them. The set-up of the restaurant is terrible. The line for ordering can only be 2-3 people deep due to poor floor planning where seating was added in the "ordering area". For this reason the line is against the windows and back of seats of other guests. Then the menu is barely readable until you are at the register, so the place is all jammed up with people (including myself) that don't even know what they want when they are at the register because you can't read it. This is the first reason, going to Flying Star is less than appealing. The food sounds delish when reading the menu, but be prepared to be under-whelmed. The prices are way too high for the quality and quality of the food you receive. A few reviews of my most recent meals: Fabulous French Toast- still wondering what was so fabulous about it. Basic bread, basic flavor. Breakfast Burrito- big and tasty, probably the best taste and value. Rise and Shine Sandwich- basic sandwich, but good. Chai Tea- ok, but tiny cup for 4 bucks. Tuna Salad Sandwich- super overpriced, cheese not melted, poor quality tuna salad. The atmosphere of this Flying Star and others is wonderful and enjoyable. It is modern and clean. I am sure I'll be back due to the location and convenience, and fingers crossed, I like it?!?!?! We'll see.
(3)Marie M.
My family loves this place. It's the one restaurant we can all agree to go to unanimously. There's something for everyone on the menu and I enjoy most items.... except the new chicken and couscous with peas and asparagus. I liked the old recipe better that was made with bell peppers and broccoli on the side. But they rotate menu items on a regular basis and I bet they'll return to my old favorite recipe. We've tried everything on the menu because we come here so often! The people who work here are always top notch professionals with a smile on their face and a nice warm greeting. They do get busy and can have a line out the door during the popular times of the day, but we don't mind. Although we try to go during the mid afternoon when we know they aren't overwhelmed. Sometimes they run out of our favorite cookies. But there are other desserts that are just as good. Not that we need to be eating desserts. They just look so delectable sitting on the glass shelves with the lights shining on them; it's hard to pass up. Oh, you've go to try the Fabulous French Toast! It's so darn good. But certainly not for everyday as it must have a million calories. On the other hand, they have a great selection of salads.
(5)Dave D.
Generally flying star is pretty good. A local go to when my wife and I either can't agree on where to go, or don't want to think about it too hard. We generally have the Southwest Bennie, a turkey sausage and fried egg open faced sandwich with cheesy green chili sauce. The other staple for us is the Albuquerque Turkey sandwich. Both are great choices and I always have a hard time deciding between the two. There is always a struggle deciding whether to have dessert or not, everything always looks delicious. Tonight we had the Peter's Devil cupcake, a chocolate cupcake with chocolate icing. It was a little dry compared to the other chocolate desserts we've had here and tasted kind of like cocoa powder. I was a little disappointed in it tonight, but generally it's pretty good. This particular location has a nice fireplace in the back, but if you want to get a seat near it you have to either get lucky or stalk a spot! During the summer, the outdoor patio is the place to be. Nice and shady, there is a fire place in the back of the patio too. Dogs are allowed and even encouraged as Flying Star provides water bowls for your pets on the patio.
(4)Cassidy Z.
The Flying Star is tough because it is such a fun, trendy place to hang out BUT its so expensive! I have a hard time justifying spending $12 dollars on a sandwich for lunch when I can go down the road to the best restaurant in town--Indigo Crow-- and get one for $9. The food is pretty good though and they have a large selection. You just have to have the dough. That said, this is most def the place to grab coffee or even a beer and study with some friends. You can pick up one of their delicious desserts and settle in for an hour or two and no one will bother you. With their free wifi, its a nice spot to hang out. They also have a wall of magazines for reading--a touch I've always appreciated.
(3)Lydia Effie C.
Why isn't this at least 4 stars! The service is so nice, and if they mess up they always make amends. There are a ton of tables, it's pretty fast, the food isn't that expensive, and they've got magazines! I've gotten coffee remade! The first bite of that breakfast burrito I had was soo yummy. Mmm! I felt at home, at ease. I can't wait to come back and try more!
(4)Eric And Jennifer R.
This is our favorite flying star location. They have a conference room you can rent for an hour or a day. They have friendly and fast service in comparison to other locations. Our favorite dishes are the couscous chicken, fish dish, salads with avocado dressing, and any breakfast items.
(5)Jeff M.
I'm really disappointed! Used to be the "come to" place... Service has been awful the last 3 visits. Food quality dropping off as well... Too bad - great patio
(2)Tracy G.
Veggie sandwich on pretzel roll with sweet potato fries, iced tea. Fast friendly service, great open vibe, good music overhead. Felt comfortable being here alone. A bit spendy--$14 for the above--but you really can taste the love.
(4)Jill M.
Their food is overpriced, but at least it's mostly healthy and includes local or organic ingredients. I love the concept of combined coffee shop and restaurant/diner, which allows it to have a really large menu with something for everyone (omelets, burgers, salad, stir fry, fish tacos, cakes, dessert, etc.) The only problem with this place is that it's impossible to do this many things and have them all turn out great. Their breakfast food is mostly boring and bland. The New Mexican dishes, including anything with green chile, really lack flavor. The burgers and sandwich options are pretty good, and the Buddha bowl is a great tasty, filling, Americanized stir fry. In addition to coffee, they have a wide selection of good teas. I also really like their casual, friendly, relaxed atmosphere!
(3)Damacio U.
I really like the free wifi and service, but sometimes I cringe at how much they charge for a cup of coffee. I had my same ole breakfast but they seemed to have shorted me on potatoes, it's not that I need them, but for the price, I like to know I am getting what I paid for.
(3)Jazmine V.
I agree with previous reviews. Flying star is WAY to expensive. The food is good, but I often avoid going due to it being overpriced. But if your willing to fork out the dough, try the Mac n cheese, the desserts, and the breakfast sandwiches! Everything is always fresh and delicious!
(3)Keira M.
This review is easy! Great food...great atmosphere...lots of options....and you WILL pay for it. I love it here and I will keep coming back for more.
(4)Don N.
I took my family to flying star on Rio grande blvd, the staff was WALKING AND LAUGHING TH RU THE RESTAURANT with a toilet snake!!!!!!!!!!!!!! totally disgusting!!!!!!! be very worried to eat there!!!!!!!
(1)Bradley S.
Visited this location on a Tues afternoon at 3:00 pm. Restaurant was dead, service was horrible, numerous tables were not bussed and dirty. This has been the rule here on several of my visits. Food order was wrong and delivered cold. Their pastry (eclaire) was horrible and stale. Flying Star Cafes are mediocre at best, overrated and overly expensive for product delivered. Perhaps it is time for the Bernsteins to get off their asses and out of the office and visit their locations to see what is going on them. Won't be Back!!!
(1)Marcial R.
Flying star has me over the moon! The best Fabulous French Toast EVER! My new favorite place for any meal since I can have dinner for breakfast or breakfast for dinner! Menu is diverse and locally grown! A little on the pricey side and worth it!
(5)Jennifer D.
Have been to this location a dozen or more times. Every, and I really do mean, every time they have managed to get the order wrong. Today, when we arrived there where only two others here. And they didn't have any pancake barter ready. They asked to sub French toast and it still took over 20 minutes.
(2)Cassie H.
This restaurant is ridiculously expensive for what you get. I ordered the chicken and couscous (which is a very small portion with maybe only 4-5 oz of meat), a sandwich, a Mac n cheese for my daughter, a side salad, and a "red stuff" drink and it came out to $50. I double checked my receipt and learned that the red juice drink they try to upsell you at the register is $4.29! It's a cranberry lemonade concoction- not worth it! My order was to go and after paying the $50 I get home and find out that they didn't even include the chips that go with the sandwich. The food is tasty, at least, but the portion sizes are very small and the prices very high. I would expect that at an upscale restaurant but not a cafe type place like this. I would much rather have gone out for a steak dinner for the same price.

blah blah blah, what everyone else said. can't add anything that hasn't already been said, food is great, desserts are even better (albeit overpriced), coffee is reliable (decent, not amazing, but better than average), service is always top notch. only reason for 4 instead of 5 is the fact that everything is slightly more than it "should" be, at least according to His Royal Douchiness (my personal nickname when i'm feeling like a cheapskate). as another yelper said, use your flying star card to offset the moderately high price, and you'll be ok.

Expensive? Yes. But you pay for product quality. If you want to spend less for hormone and pesticide-infested food, this isn't the place for you. These guys are experts at taking healthy things that are crap-free and local and transforming them into fattening, caloric sensations that you'll love. Breakfast is great. Today I tried the newish eggs florentine, sans feta. Delicious. The ranch breakfast and the southwest Bennie are my favorites. For lunch try the Thai steak salad. The enchiladas are non-standard and amazing, add antibiotic free chicken for what you may think is too much money.

I enjoy eating at Flying Star and just relaxing on their patio, they have soft couches outside as well. Food on the other hand, is very over-priced. They are indeed delicious, hopefully their over-priced food makes up for their local produce and local community support. The Flying Star on Corrales Rd is one of many restaurants in the Albuquerque/Rio Rancho area, and I will be back for this one, as the staff was very friendly, the restrooms were very clean and the food was very good. Flying Star Restaurants also provide free Wi-Fi for all their locations, which is why there are tons of students and laptop users here, daily.

Frequent the FS often especially on Sunday - however this last Sunday we met friends found an open booth next to a server dog laying under the table - that is FINE - love the service dogs - however when the 'care keeper' secretly took her plate and put it under the table for the dog to eat the food made all 4 of us ill - we privately shared this with the server who shrugged and could have cared less. On a second note to see the dishes we usually purchase increased by $2.00 - not worth it when when can visit hannah and nates. By by FS - never again.

Been taking girls on dates to this Flying Star since I was able to drive. Best food, great coffee, super awesome atmosphere, and the outdoor seating on the patio is great for all seasons. Fire pit and all.

Even as flying star continues to raise their prices I can't help but forget about my budget and indulge. Delicious chicken salad? Yes please. BLT? Yes please! Other fabulous drinks and breakfast menu items? TAKE MY MONEY! I love that flying star is "classy" yet has a very relaxed atmosphere. Show up in your sweats and enjoy a nice evening of studying, or get a little more dressy for a great date. It's a great place to hangout, talk, and catch up with your family and friends. Different flying stars have different layouts, and some have patios! Next time you're craving something healthy, delicious, and a little more fancy than usual head over to your flying star! Try out their chicken salad sandwich, fruit, red stuff, and a nice big slice of their bread pudding. I guarantee you'll leave happy and full. If you're in the mood for a salad, their greek goddess has deep fried feta balls, oh the glory.

Flying Star is a little... schizophrenic. An eclectic, hearty menu, but yeah, what's up with the high price point? It's not a full service restaurant, which is cool, but that price point is a little cocky. The food is solid and the portions are hearty, but seemed to be lacking that je ne said quoi. Again, for the price, take it up a level, man. And the customer service? Hmmm. Well, let's see. They messed up my order a few times, and I'm pretty sure they thought it was all my fault. Cause, you know, slapping a grilled chicken breast and some steamed broccoli on a plate can cause extreme mayhem and chaos in the kitchen. I do dig the ambiance- warm, cozy and a chill placed to grab some joe, a yummy treat, and a mag. Which is probably the way I'll go from now on.

I began eating and enjoying Flying Star when it was originally Double Rainbow on central. Wow those were the days... and those days have long gone and went. Now expect to pay way too much for mediocre bland food. The desserts still have it but the prices that accompany them leave you baffled and take the fun away. Ironically the owners try to advertise like they are a small mom and pop establishment but they have tried expanding all over the country. Instead they lost their quality and tripled their prices along the way. Those of you who say they will continue to give it another chance because the first time wasn't so good do yourself a favor and stop while you are ahead. Does it have a good lounging atmosphere? Yes Is it trendy and hip? Yes Is it good quality food? No and it hasn't been for the last 12 years. So if bland expensive food is your thing and you want to look cool getting robbed then this is your place.

Went for dessert. Yummy! Very good. Staff was great. Only issue was 6 desserts, 5 small milks, 1 decaf coffee.....$43!!!! A little pricey! But food rocks!

another one of those spots we discovered during our weekend trek to ABQ that i really wished would migrate it's way down to fat alamo....heavy sigh.... we had dessert while waiting for our breakfast....and all of i have to say about that is if you pass up the red velvet pound cake....you need to slap yourself in the face while you think again. creamy....the cake was creamy....i don't know how that's possible...but there it is. for the first time ever, i saw 'cream cheese' offered as an ingredient option for a 'build your own omelet'....and so i ordered the omelet with cream cheese. and dammit if it didn't just bring the omelet to life with awesomeness. there were so many cakes in the window waggling their icing faces at me.....so many sexy cakes, so little room in my stomach....i will be back, mr. cafe.....and i will be taking many of your pretty little cake slices with me. heed my warning.

I love the concept of this place. Walk in, order, sit and wait. Love these kinds of places. Not to mention the vast selection of magazines available while you eat! They also have various pastries and sweets available at the front counter. We came here before we left to head back to Denver and I decided to get the grabburrito. It was more than enough food for me to eat, and I chose to get it smothered with green chile. Everything was good, but the green chile needs to be a lot more spicy! My friend ordered the huevos rancheros and those were also delicious...and HUGE! I did try the red chile too. Like the green, it needs to be a lot more spicy. But what can I expect from this place being a chain. Will definitley come back next time I am in NM..and maybe get a pastry too!

I'm updating my review and taking away one star. Actually it was toddling between a 3 and 4 star before anyway, but now they've taken the Machacado off the menu (what?!?!?), then they put a really good spaghetti and broken meatballs dish on the menu and then took it away again (Aaaaah!). I showed up on a windy rainy evening all set for some really good spaghetti and meaty tomato sauce with a glass of red wine, and NO! Off the menu. "Sorry! Yup, you didn't appear to be suffering enough after we took the Machacado off the menu, so we put this really good pasta dish on the menu, let you get hooked, then ripped it off the menu again that you might exhibit the proper consternation!" And, as always, the pastries, cakes, and pies really are not that good. There is a nice variety. They look nice in the display case. But they really fall flat on flavor, texture, and freshness. I do like the triple ginger cookie, and a dish of ice cream with a shot of espresso dumped over the top is good (affogatto), but that's about it. Finally, let me whine about the chicken pot pie a bit. Apparently, this is a very popular item, but I don't like it. First, it's not really a pie. It's a chicken stew with a flat disk of the same pie crust that they use on their pies propped on top (bad -- tough and tasteless) . Second, the sauce, chicken, and veggies were not exactly memorable. It lacked richness (C'mon guys, splurge for a little butter and cream!) and the vegetables were a little undercooked (Did they even taste these before they let them leave the kitchen?). And while I'm at it, they could really dice the chicken and veggies smaller. I'd like to get some chicken, veggies, sauce, and crust all in the same bite, but the chunks are so large, you just can't. And I have a *really* big mouth! (Really!). And yet, there is still much I like about this place. The atmosphere is cool, the nonsmoking patio with water bubbling around the rocks and the fireplace is nice, the magazine rack with all the weird magazines you don't find anywhere else (and many that you do), and I do like a few things on the menu: good salads, descent coffee (and free refills), the "red stuff" drink. A hamburger with house made chips (or fries or fruit) and a beer make for a nice lunch. They actually have great burgers! And ... uh ... hmm. Guess that's about it anymore. Pity.

Simply over the top! Words can't describe!!!

I'm fortunate to have good friends in New Mexico, and must visit Flying Star every time I go. Varied menu, pleasant service, good prices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Amazing pastries and milkshakes, so try to leave room!

Always consistently good. Usually I have the breakfast items (am or pm) but tried a sandwich today. Egg salad was just the way I like it: simple, tasty, and plentiful.

I was so thrilled when Flying Star Café opened this Corrales location, it's like 5 mins from my condo. My friends and I would go there twice a month for breakfast. These are the reasons, I love this place, "Great ingredients like organic, 100% humanely farmed eggs, homemade breads and Yukon Gold home fries plus local turkey green chile sausage make Flying Star breakfasts really special." I also love their house coffee! When you first walk in, it's already hard enough to decide what you want to have, they have to place a large display of deliciously looking desert in front of you! Patio area is great, with panoramic view of Sandia mountain. All my friends from Chicago and Toronto fell in love with this place.

This place is very popular so I am surprised there are no reviews. They have great sandwiches and pastries. This is a place however where people come and get a coffee and stay all day in the good seats.

I used to like Flying Star, and I have to admit that they do have good desserts and drinks, but the food is not good. They kind of manage to ruin everything. They used to have a good pulled pork sandwich, but it has been removed from the menu. The fish and chips? Overcooked, bland fish, and the breading was thick and very disgusting. I couldn't finish them. Chicken fried steak? It was like corn flakes stuck to it. Very strange, and I did not like it. Breakfast burrito? Made with VELVEETA. Whose retarded idea was that? The graburrito used to be good but the recipe seems to keep changing. The mac and cheese used to be good, but I find it's gotten gross. Again, I used to like this place a lot. However, they seem to manage to keep ruining nice, normal, easy dishes. Good for dessert, but a little expensive.

The food here is pretty good, and the menu has a fairly decent variety of sandwiches and burgers. I've had the grilled cheese sandwich and the veggie burger, both of which are very good. Even my novio, who doesn't like veggie burgers, tried some of mine and said it was good. Their cranberry herbal cooler is also nice and refreshing. Some of the desserts here, though delicious, can be a little expensive, so watch out! This cafe is also good for studying. On warm days, it's also nice to go here and eat your meal outside.

I loved Flying Star until about 2009. My family ate there several times a month and we loved the food and the atmosphere. My daughter worked at a different location for a while and it was a good job for a responsible older teen. However, I noticed in 2009 as the economy tanked they started making changes that ruined it. The portions got much smaller, while the prices got more expensive. At one point they tried charging for drink refills (REALLY? I pay $2.50 for 10c worth of iced tea and you want to charge me for a refill????) I think customer outcry ended that pretty quickly. However, I kept going back because it was healthy and a local business and everyone was friendly and they had free wifi. Last week I thought I would go to FS because it was good healthy food. I wanted the spinich/egg white/feta burrito they offer at Satellite but they told me they don't offer it there. But he said he could order me all the ingredients and I could make my own. I had a $5 coupon and I got an iced tea. My total came to $11 AFTER THE COUPON. I had given him my credit card before he told me the total and I was SHOCKED so I didn't say anything immediately. That meant my $4 burrito from Satellite had cost almost $13 (egg whites, feta, tomatoes and salsa.) I went back up later and asked why it had been so expensive and he listed prices (each item was about $3) I commented that I probably could have ordered the omlet made to order for less and he said yes I could have. Had he offered that up front, or had he offered to refund the difference I would have thought differently. But since he didn't, it left me with a really bad feeling about how far the place had gone down. Another small point - I'm on a fairly strict diet because of some health issues. I don't eat bread or potatos. So when I order the omlet it comes with both. When I want to substitute fruit, they charge me. So I can either waste the food they give me by not eating it, or I can pay extra for a replacement and not be wasteful. It would seem that a restaurant that is Organic and Green would do the right thing. This experience is just very typical of the ones I've had over the past year at the FS's and it's so disappointing. I have spent 10 years helping them be successful and would love to help continue to make them successful, but I will now be a former customer.

Ordered Huevos Rancheros w/ Green. It was fine but not remarkable. Staff is very good and prices are on the high side of reasonable, but they do use high-quality ingredients (often from local farms, etc.)

This is my favorite restaurant in Abq for 2 reasons: they are pet friendly & they serve vegetarian options!

Come to Texas, Flying Star! I will singlehandedly keep you in business!! I visited on vacation recently, and fell in love. I adore the quirky, hippie atmosphere, and the food was delicious (even if I couldn't finish it all!). The sourdough bread was delicious, and the chicken salad had dill in it, which was a delicious touch. The fruit cup was awesome, too--the fruit was fresh and juicy, and the inclusion of pineapple and kiwi was a pleasant change of pace from the (sadly) typical melon-and-grape combo most places offer. The staff seemed friendly and relaxed, despite the lunch-rush crowd. I can't promise I chose the correct address for the location I went to, but the one I ate at also had a charming, shaded patio area where people could sit outside with their dogs. It was very pet- and pet-parent friendly. Next time I fully intend to bring my own four-legged buddy to share the experience. The whole vibe was very chill and inviting, and my meal was yummy. I can't wait to go back and try their other offerings!

We ate at the Menaul location the night before and while the service was spotty there, I thought the food was good and I wanted to try some other items from the menu. I ordered pancakes for my 4 year old and the greek salad with chicken for myself. First, yay for breakfast all day. The pancakes were delicious. Second, my salad was great, albeit a bit pricey when I added the grilled chicken. The olives weren't pitted either. More of an annoyance than anything else. It did come without any dressing and I had to go up to the window and ask for dressing. It took nearly 7 minutes for them to bring it to me. I was a little disappointed as my order wasn't correct at the Menaul location the night before. But the food is really good. Really good. They have the sort of menu that makes you want to order everything. If I lived in the area I'm sure that we would become regulars. I know that we will be going back on our next visit to ABQ.

This use to be my favorite spot- food is still very good as is the desert but they have raised their prices and really cut their portions- You will have a good meal but again for what you get its pricey and dont plan on sharing-

I go to Flying Star for the atmosphere and good service, but not necessarily for the food. The staff is here is always VERY friendly and welcoming. The food is usually pretty good - they have excellent burgers and breakfast dishes. The green goddess salad is also really good. On the other hand, the chopped cobb is pretty sad, and the desserts are NEVER as good as they look in the case. I still recommend Flying Star to out-of-towners and will continue to be a regular at this location.

Another successful visit to Flying Star accomplished tonight. I love that we can walk in there with a two-year old and not have a thing to worry about. Don't get me wrong--I love the food, too--but it's the laid back vibe as much as anything else that brings us back again and again. Yeah, it was a little different at first to feel like I was ordering at a typical lunch counter, but the food was more than good enough to allay that concern. The vast magazine rack and free wireless internet bring in a heaping helping of coffeehouse folks and college students, too. It's alll good at this place. Whatever. I love it. And *don't* pass up the chance for some killer dessert. YUM!

I love this place. This is the easiest place to sit down with kids and have a good meal. It's always bustling with people, and such an interesting and eclectic group of people. I've never seen the same face twice, except for the nice folks behind the counter. Fast and friendly, delicious chow, i'm always down for some Flying Star!
