Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Rolled Tacos, nachos, quesadillas and the carne asada burritos. Mmmm. I am as white as white comes and can't do heat, but really do love New Mexican food. This place is great. Traditional. And taught me to put lemon and salt on my cucumber slices can't go wrong.

The best Mexican food I've had...ever. Hubby agrees. Usually you'd probably assume a 24-hour restaurant would be sub par...But couldn't be farther from the truth. Hubby loves the chimis and I love their carne asada. Tonight is the second trip there in a week!!!!

Federico's serves up killer food 24/7. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, or late night snack, this is my go-to place for burritos. They take a little longer than some other places, but that's because they prepare your food fresh. Top picks: Chile relleno burrito for lunch/dinner, chorizo burrito for breakfast.

My new favorite breakfast burrito it was damn near a foot long and half a pound of food or so very good and for 6 bucks you can't beat that I give it a 10

This is straight up Mexican fast food. Not New Mexican. I really only get the carnitas in a plate or burrito form. The burrito is pretty filling. The plate is a decent sized portion. The red chile sauce is boss and the food was especially good tonight!

I am on a quest to find my favorite breakfast burrito in Albuquerque. So far Federico's is at the TOP of my list!!! Fellow Yelpers cued me into the fact that the wait is longer than at other fast food places, but they also said it was worth it. Agreed! The tortillas on the burritos are super star!!! Clearly they are using fresh good quality tortillas to keep all the good stuff inside. I chose the bacon egg and cheese burrito with green salsa. PLENTY of delicious fully cooked bacon in here, the burrito is stuffed full and hearty. One of these babies is going to keep you incredibly full. I hate running, but I run. Sunday mornings when I drag myself out of bed and head out for my long run the only thought that keeps me going is BURRITO!!!! From now on I'll be using FEDERICO BURRITO as my mantra. Enjoy!

My husband & I cannot get enough of the carne asada fries here. Extra guacamole, sour cream, & an order of horchata. Oh don't forget that green & red sauce! Perfect lunch or dinner if you ask me. We need this stuff at least once a week. Love that they're open 24 hours for those once in a blue moon late night snack after a night of drinking. Not the prettiest place to sit down. But they have the green sticker & that's all that matters. Drive thru is slow, but food is worth the wait.

Yes, this is my third update to my Federico's review - but I keep discovering new amazing things about it! This update is thanks to Howie's weekly newsletter about fries. I cannot believe I missed an opportunity to educate folks on something incredibly delicious just because I wasn't quick enough with the review - D'OH!!! Federico's has carne asada fries. Yes, you heard me right - CARNE ASADA FRIES!!! Not impressed? Well, that's only because you haven't tasted them. They are ridiculously delicious, insanely yummy, and wickedly mouthwatering!!! Seriously, one order of fries could feed a family of four for dinner. It's a big ole heap of fries absolutely smothered with their carne asada mix - which is delightful all on its own. Fries, cheese, meat, tiny chopped up onions, jalapenos and other stuff - add some salsa and a little guac - it's like heaven in your mouth!!! REALLY sorry this didn't make the weekly Yelp, but it's out there now - go have some carne asada fries at Federico's!!! Your mouth will jump for joy!!!

Best Carne Asada burritos! This place is the spot to go to in the middle of the night when you are hungry.
(5)Matthew V.
Wow- waited in drive thru for nearly 15 minutes and when we get home..... ICE COLD!!!!!!
(1)Chris R.
This place rocks! Complete San Diego mexican food!! Yum Yum! Carne Asada is tremendous! Such a nice and friendly staff...Perfecto! Gracias.
(5)Gregg B.
"Just barely OK" Mexican food. Gets a two stars for having good horachata, good chips and real deal Mexican Coca-cola. Chille Relleno was very greasy and the fish burrito was bland with over-fried fish that tasted of bad oil & tarter sauce (not crema)?!?
(2)Lotus X.
I wish I could give zero stars. Ridiculous 10-minute wait in the drive thru, even though the restaurant was empty. Food cold and soggy. YUCK. First and last time here. Is this some low plagiarized version of Filiberto's?? Maybe.
(1)Shelly A.
Open 24 hours....fresh and tasty....reasonable prices....all good. Hubby had a carnitas burrito based on Yelp recommendations. He said it was alright, but he liked the meat on my carne abodaba plate better. We both agreed that the hot sauce (served on the side) has a "sneak up on you" heat. We plan to go again to try some of the other menu items.

Came on a weekend and they had a welcome surprise- menudo. Food here is not consistent with the other Federico's in town. Sometimes it's really good and sometimes just ok. I'll bump up more stars with I get consistency in the chicken tacos.
(3)Marissa A.
Great place to eat at. Reasonable price and they serve you a big proportion. Many options to choose from and I love the fact they are open 24/7.
(4)Robert B.
I frickin' love this place. I go at least once a week. They have excellent quality (and quantity!) food, are super friendly, and will do nearly anything you want to customize your meal for you. I remember one time, my wife and I went in and ordered our meals. While we were waiting, we were discussing the Federico's menu and then asked the staff what kind of fish they used in their fish tacos. I don't even remember their answer, but a few minutes later, the cook goes and brings us out a sample fish taco! Holy crap, it was awesome, and I'm not a huge fish taco fan. Since then, we have ordered the fish taco several times, even though its not my normal go-to order (that would be the combo #5 but with chicken instead of beef). Federico's is open 24/7/365, has great food, gives lots of it, and all at a great price. Highly recommended!
(5)Chris R.
Very good! 7 dollars for a Carne Asada burrito! but it is enough for two meals! I am from San Diego were this is the standard....but thank the good lord there is a Federico's in NM!!!
(4)Izzat A.
Stopped by here before flying out of ABQ. Good food at a decent price. I got an enchilada that was pretty good and a fish taco that I didn't like at all. Also tried a churro which was very good. I get that it's fast food, but was expecting more.
(3)Jenn H.
I had a coupon for burritos $1.99 and from reading a few reviews thought I'd give it a go. I ordered a green chili and bean n cheese burritos to go. The service was friendly, clean joint, free chips & salsa, peppers. Once handed my bag 5 minutes later it was HEAVY! I got home and cut in half to share with my kid. Although large and generous in portion, I wasn't too impressed with the flavor. I know Mexican is different than NewMexican...so maybe the green chili wasn't a smart decision. Bean and Cheese...well that's the kids favorite and you can't really go wrong there. But she didn't care for it either. :\ Bummer because my go-to Filibertos is not as good as it used to be and I was really hoping for a different go-to Mexican place. The search is still on.
(2)Angel B.
Straight up Mexican food! Not New Mexican food for a change.. It's A little overpriced on some of the items but they do deliver! Great taste , Ask food without pico de gallo because they get carried away with onions!
(3)J L.
The menudo rocks perfect texture and flavor is to die for. No need to add salt just onion lime and oregano And put it down like its going out of style.
(5)DJ D.
One of the all-time best Mexican drive-throughs I've eaten at. We try to stop every time we come through Albuquerque. Try their pollo asado, or anything else... I think their aguas frescas and salsas are very tasty. There's a reason I want to give this Federico's 5 stars, it's really that good, ESPECIALLY for 24/7 drive through food! 5/5
(5)Kimi T.
Chile relleno burrito, open 24/7, with a drive-thru! How can you not like this place? I have a soft spot for cheap Mexican food. My aunt says it's because my mom ate Taco Bell when she was pregnant with me and that taco sauce runs through my veins (might also be the cause of many other problems with me, but we'll save that for a Yelp event). In any case, Federico's is awesome because you can get a chile relleno burrito on the cheap. Yep, a chile relleno burrito. I just want to give whoever invented this genius concoction a big hug. The chile relleno burrito is a life changer. The only complaint I have is it's super greasy. I usually get the 2 chile rellenos plate ($7) which comes with rice, beans, flour tortilla, guacamole, pico de gallo and sour cream. It allows me to dab the excess grease off before wrapping the chile relleno in the tortilla. I also get to add all the yummy sides. The bf got a carnitas burrito tonight and said it was really good. For both our chile rellenos plate, carnitas burrito and a medium horchata, we paid something like $15! Did I mention I love this place? I, personally, think that they have better tortillas, rice and beans here than Filiberto's, but it might just be personal preference. For cheap, really good fast-food Mexican, give Federico's a shot.

I have to hand it to this Federico's location, the food here is consistent hot and tasty! The menudo here on the weekends is the best in town par none! Get there early when it is the freshest at 7:00 am before it is all gone. True to Mexican heritage the food is blander then what New Mexican is but once you understand that you can truly appreciate the distinctive flavors and taste the heritage in the food. Portions are huge and the pricing is good.
(4)Rosie N.
I adore Federico's. I have been going to this place for years, and the food is almost too good to be true. Out of all of the places like it, the quality and freshness makes it my top choice for Mexican food. I hadn't been in a while when I stopped by the drive-through the other day. I was still surprised at how fresh the tortillas were! You usually have to wait a while in line for them to prepare the food fresh, but it is always worth the wait!
(5)Clark G.
The Mexican food here is excellent. I have only been here for lunch but I see people going here all the time to get take away tacos, burritos, or meals. On the weekends they serve menudo/pancita that is pretty good. The owners and staff are very nice.
(5)Jules G.
Stop. Just. Stop. My quest for authentic MEXICAN food stops here. I just found Federico's late one night- ravenous after a late night at work, driving aimlessly in search of anything open after midnight, saw "open 24 hours" and u-turned into the drive-thru. Ooh- carnitas tacos! And ooh- fish burritos! Yes, please. Maybe a side of chips and pico de gallo? Go big or go home, baby. Little did I know that their portions are huge, which is fine by me. After one bite of that ah-may-zing taco, I unabashedly quoted Mia from Pulp Fiction when she went to the bathroom to "powder" her nose. Yes. It was that good. And that bad boy of a fish burrito? It took me back to my obsession with street food whilst spending time in Puerta Vallarta. Delicioso fo sho! All this was eaten in my car, which was good, because it allowed me to inhale an insane amount of food with no judgement and at the same time, allowing me to make audible sounds of appreciation and throwing in some happy dancing all at the same time. THIS is one of my best finds in Albuquerque by far! Happy, happy, happy!

This is for the Zuni/San Mateo location that is not listed on Yelp!. Was intrigued by someones post about Acupulcos Burritos, but seeing how it was closed, I gave Federicos a shot. The Chile Rellano burrito (what a great concept) was good, however it was more of a Guacamole and Pico burrito than it was a Chile Rellano Burrito. Once navigating my way through the overwhelming GuacaPico combo, it was quite tasty. Although I may ask them to make it with beans next time as I think it would better compliment the Chile Rellano. I also had the tried and true Bean and Cheese burrito. I will definitely be making this a consistent late night snack. Just add a little of the green and red chile that they provide for you (both taste great with a decent amount of kick), and viola, you have a tasty burrito. I was a little disappointed by the paper thin tortillas. However, Im spoiled from years of amazing homemade tortillas, but these just didn't do it for me. It is open 24 hrs (Drive-Thru as well)which is always a BIG plus. 3 1/2 starts if I could.

I'm shocked that I'm the first to review this location. It's never too busy but always steady. Anyway, the only reason I've found to go to Federico's is for the Supreme Nachos, which are very good. You get a pretty loaded box with asada, sour cream, guac, cheese, tomatoes and beans. Pretty tasty and the meat actually has some flavor; not that bland, unseasoned stuff you frequently get but nicely spiced up and tasty. I love a good heap o nachos and theirs are exceptional. I'm only giving it two stars because in the past couple of months they raised all of their prices across the board by at least a dollar per menu item. Used to be okay Mexican fare for the price, and I'm really going to miss those addictive nachos, but the price hike has made the place prohibitively expensive for just okay, pretty run of the mill food.
(2)Ione F.
Very authentic Mexican fare. The burritos are the bomb and their shrimp cocktail is the second best I have had (the very best was in Mexico on the coast).
(5)JoAnna G.
Bomb burritos!! Open 24/7 and always my favorite place for a late night/ early morning burrito! Excellent red sauce! This place is a little dirty and not really the place to eat in but the drive through is just about right and probably the best option! Awesome hole on the wall burrito place!
(5)Ryan G.
Way too much greese in the quesadillas! Plates are a bit over priced. Nothing was super great. Will not be going back.
(2)Jai D.
Slightly better than a Moe's or Chipotle's. Poor quality ingredients. I really have no intention on eating there again.
