Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

This place has absolutely amazing authentic Mexican food. Best chips and salsa ever - just try not to overeat the chips because the entrees are even better. We had tacos, empinadas, and a sandwich quesadilla. So good!!! And the service was top notch. You will not be disappointed!!

Great food, huge portions, friendly service, plenty of veggie options, fairly priced-- this is the kind of place that I will recommend to everyone I know. Too bad the people I know don't live here. I wish this place existed in my town.

Amazing food, delicious vegan options galore, and spectacular service. What more could you ask for?! Go see MartÃn for a unique and memorable meal that you can't get anywhere else. The veggie posole and the empanada (of course!) are my faves!

Salsa is fruity, atmosphere is colorful, service was slightly inattentive. Food was odd, I got a steak burrito, it had peas, carrots, corn, kidney beans, avocado, and no lettuce. Horchata was good. Average overall.

I lived in Chile and Argentina for several months, so I know what to expect from an empanada place. You should not come here expecting authentic, South-American style empanadas. If you do, you will be disappointed. This place caters to a gringo crowd like me. Menu is more Mexican than South American. However, if you can get past that disappointment, you will have a good time. These empanadas are American-sized (read: bigger) and lack some of the ingredients found in traditional empanadas, like hard-boiled egg, raisin, olives, etc. However, they taste delicious whether by themselves or accompanied by rice and beans. There are only about four different kinds of empanadas on the menu, none of which are plain cheese, but you have a bunch of non-empanada options. My friend had a chicken empanada and I had a beef empanada and ordered a chicken burrito to go for lunch the next day at work. Now these burritos are fantastic and they're the kind that I'm used to! Not just a meat filling but also beans and cheese. This is the way it should be. The side beans and rice that come with the empanada dishes are also pretty tasty. The service is authentic South American style too: pay when you're ready, not feeling rushed to get the bill and leave. I always appreciate that. They will also accommodate you if you arrive a few minutes after closing time.

There are plenty of angles to approach a review of a business like this. It's the kind of place that tugs at my bleeding foodie heart, if only because the joy is in the sparse truths: family-owned and operated, it's just a little eatery tucked off the main strip of downtown Route 66, the kind of nook that will only survive if word-of-mouth (and review) swell in the community. They kinda shot themselves in the foot when they named the place, since empanadas are rooted in Portugal and more recently South America, not Mexico. But whatever. The Mexican contribution lies in the meats, barbacoa and carne asada, which are outstanding. So go for it, carnivore. But hold on, veggie lover, keep reading. I've tried a vegetarian diet twice in this life (listen to me, "this life", maybe the veggie thing also made me lean a little Hindu). The first effort lasted about 18 months, the second maybe eight. Both were inspired by the simple desire to see how the other half lives; I don't, honestly, get overwhelmed with empathy for slain animals, unless it just seems obviously inhumane (I take exception to seals, veal, and gullet-stuffed paté, among others). Anyway, if you haven't done this--gone meat-free--you should try it. It's really, really hard. I can't begin to comprehend the sacrificial discipline of the vegan. Go vegetarian for a month or two, good luck. The narrative I love about Empanadas is how the owner, MartÃn, listened to his vegan and vegetarian customers, who pled for menu options. Rather than offer a petty plate or two, the dude went all out, converting nearly half of his entrees for the veggie set. These guys offer a veggie posole, and it ain't half bad. So heed this shout-out, ye leafy lovers: rejoice in Empanadas. Power to cruelty-free People, y'all.

Arriba, Arriba! Andale, Andale! Get down to Empanadas for authentic Mexican cuisine. I had the Empanada de Barbacoa & Empanada de Pollo both items were fresh hot and "Muy Delicioso" the only thing I would say that I absolutely would of wanted was some cheese on my beans, that is a must for me when it comes to Mexican food, I NEED CHEESE PLEASE! The owner is a nice gentlemen who I had spoken with while paying my tab that I didnt know they serve Chicken Flautas he said yes you must try and was so very gracious and said he would make me one real fast and on him, what a exceptional first class & above & beyond owner he is to do that. Empanadas is a FINE AUTHENTIC Mexican grill will no Frills all THRILLS!!

yum yum yum! Fantastic food here. I enjoyed the chicken empanadas and the flavor was just heavenly. The consistency in the dough and the filling was so perfect, I just wanted to keep eating even though I was so full. Chips and salsa are tasty too! Will definitely be back here.

I never heard of this place until the C.M.Y.E event this spring. At this yelp event we had great service and conversations. We went again today with a yelp friend that was unable to attend this event. Service was great! Our food arrived in a timely manner and was made fresh to order. The first time we order the chicken empanada plate and the second time we order the steak one. Both were satisfying and were delicious. Today they brought out some sour cream. It was in a squeeze bottle, perfect for adding the perfect amount to our meal. We will defiantly be back with some more friends hungry for empanadas or any other Mexican food favorite.

After the Railyards event, I went with friends to Empanadas to check out the Mexican fare. The place was empty, so we got service right away. Our server brought chips and salsa as soon as we sat down. Their sweet tea was quite refreshing and not too heavy on the sugar. I ordered a beef flauta plate that came with 3 flautas, beans, guacamole and rice with lettuce & tomato. The flautas were nice and crispy with well-done shredded beef on the inside. Dipped in guacamole and sour cream, they were flavorful and delicious. My friends split a steak empanada which looked enticing. Our server seemed a bit over eager and must have come to the table 5 times checking on us, but more is always better when it comes to service. Overall, it is a good place for authentic Mexican food. I was quite satisfied.

The food is pretty good. Lots choices for vegans, but meat lovers will enjoy the food as well. The meal portions are very good here.

My first time to Empanadas, and I must say..."What a Gem!" I had the Empanada de Asada, and it was fabulous. I usually don't like Spanish rice, but I wanted to ask for some to go from Empanadas. The red chili was very tasty, and the refried beans were delish. The establishment was clean and the staff was very friendly. Come check it out!

We enjoyed empanadas made with barbacoa (slow-roasted brisket) and asada (steak). We also really liked the salsa, which is made from tomatillos. The owner/proprietor explained that his father grows the tomatillos. Friendly and attentive service. The menu also offers lots of veggie options.

I came to Empanada here while on business in Albuquerque and was surprised how good this hole in the wall sized place was. While waiting the VERY friend staff chatted with me for a few minutes and brought me a fantastic tasting salsa. For the main dish I had an expanada and was blown away. Perfect in every way taste and cooked to perfection. TRULY a great small business that knows how to cook some great authentic, properly seasoned Mexican food. Make sure when you look for this place to NOT be fooled by the sushi place with the same address. It is just around the corner.....well worth trying and falling in love with.

Very fresh and fabulous food. The vegetarian tacos and tostadas are so delicious. The salsa and chips are very tasty. What a treasure in downtown Albuquerque. The restaurant is clean and service is friendly and outsanding! May Empanadas be around for many years to come.

Excellent service, excellent food! The owner is very friendly and helpful. Definitely stop here if you want some vegetarian food in Albuquerque.

Loved this place! It was hard to not fill up on the chips and salsa. I had an asada plate and it was fantastic. It was about an hour before closing time and my husband was unsure they would want the business at that point because it looked empty and like they might be closing shop. The owner waved us inside and assured us that it wasn't too late and that they were going to be there making burritos for the homeless. it's been a while since we ate there but I'd been meaning to leave a good review. I know downtown is a rough place for small businesses and I hope that this place makes it.

I tried going here Saturday night with some friends. Yelp said they were open. Urbanspoon said they were open. Google said they were open. There own Facebook said they were open. Guess what? They weren't open. So we drove through horrible traffic to downtown for this one reason of eating here because there hours are already funky enough. I tried posting on there Facebook about there hours. I got no reply. I tried messaging them, I got no reply. I've tried calling several times, it just rings and rings and rings. What kind of business doesn't have an answering service of some sorts? Like telling your potential customers your hours for instance. Obviously not a real business. So my friends were all upset about going all the way to downtown for nothing. And it was my suggestion it what makes me even more upset about it. If people ever wonder why so many restaurants fail, right here's a perfect example of a failure. So study up future restaurant owners as to what not to do. And we ended up going to Red Robin to eat dinner. You know, a proper legitimate restaurant.

Just had lunch here today. They have a very extensive vegetarian menu. I tried the vegeterian empanada which was delicious. The crust was perfect and the filling amazing. This place just entered my lunch rotation.

Let me start by saying the kitchen and dining areas are clean, the staff welcoming, and the service exceptional. Since this was my first time, and it is called Empanadas, I had to try one. The Empanada Barbacoa (marinated beef) was delectable. The meat was moist and marinated perfectly. The breading of the empanada was also perfectly cooked. The portions are appropriate for the price. I finished my meal feeling the just the right amount of full. If you decide to eat in, complimentary chips and salsa soon arrive at the table. Chips & Salsa at a mexican restaurant, No big deal, right? WRONG! This salsa is one of the best I've ever had. It is a thin sauce (I'm usually partial to thicker sauce with chunks of tomato), but what it lacked in texture was made up for in the extraordinary flavor profiles, with a touch of spice in the after bite. The food was a great reprieve from the all too common New Mexican food that saturates the Albuquerque market. You don't get asked "Red or Green?" and the food is not covered in melted, greasy, cheese! This place is a surprisingly great addition to the downtown restaurant inventory. Let us try and keep this place around for awhile downtown patrons! I will be returning to try the tacos next.
