Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Best carnitas and chicharrones in ABQ! Would benefit from creating a more pleasant dine in environment and taking card but, service is good and polite. Definitely a must try!

A friend of mine was craving carnitas all morning on her birthday. So if it wasn't for her birthday request and the previous review of "I will fight you if you disagree" I would not have considered going here but I felt the review had to have some authentic merit. Let me first say that I grew up in El Paso / Juarez when it was easier and safer to cross into Juarez for street carnitas but I'm more into Whole Foods these days for my lunch and don't really care for Mexican adventures but I was really HAPPY we went. As soon as you pass the river west on bridge it instantly turns into little Jaurez. And not the nice tourist Juarez of Pronaf, it's more like the dirty Zaragoza Juarez so it feels like going to the source of Carnita heaven. The restaurant is right over the bridge so it feels like you can sneak in and out before any vegan clients or low cholesterol tooting friends see you. As you enter the the restaurant I felt like I wormholed into A real Mexican restaurant with shrines, stuffed pighead on the mantle and pig paraphernalia letting you know this is not a low cholesterol kind of place. The carnitas smell is delicious!!!!! We ordered 1lb of whole carnitas , tortillas, salsas, two cokes and 1/2lb of something else next to I'm unsure of but who cares it was for the trip back to gringolandia as we waved goodby and we ate in the car with our Mexican cokes as we hurried back across the river. Good times!

Read the reviews, HAD to see for myself so I had the carnitas for lunch with my adult son and daughter. So here's my take.... the carnita special is good but not the best I have had. I am a big fan of almost anything that oinks but it fell a tad short of "the best". That said it is reasonably priced ($12 for a pound of carnitas) which included very nice corn tortillas, lime, onions, cilantro and salsa (with a complimentary basket of their corn chips, which I am sure they made there and I am also sure were fried in lard.... so if you are a cholesterol watcher, go somewhere else. The salsa was fairly bland, had a little bite but in general you had to salt it to get any flavor. Saw the piles of chicharrone in the glass case but I am not a fan of too much fat on chicharrones. I am sure if I picked through them they would be very tasty. Fried pork depends on the condiments and I think if they worked on their salsa they would have a better product. (all that criticism said, there wasn't a scrap of anything left on the table!)

Great stop..get the tacos plate and share..1 lb carnitas, a pile of hot corn tortillas, cilantro/onions and lime for garnish, and pretty good (a bit hot) salsa for around $12...enough for 2-3 ppl. We usually get ours to go, it is a quick and easy lunch.

Chicharrioneria Orocco. I was told that chicharrion meant fried pig. And that is the story here. This is pure Mexican comfort food. This is Mexican soul food. If you ever watched Anthony Bourdain or Andrew Zimmern and saw them go to the far reaches of this planet for pure ethnic soul food, look no further than here. You can feel the Mexican heritage in this restaurant There is a meat counter....with about a half dozen or so versions of fried pig.....carnitas, pork ribs, pork rind, cubed rind/fat/meat trimmings, pig's feet, pig's tail, etc. Customers select the meat they want by weight. They can take it home....or order some corn tortillas, lime, hot sauce, and water...sit at the table and eat up. I ordered 3 things. 1. The pork fried rinds were extremely good. They were light and not greasy tasting or feeling. Truely an excellent preparation of the rinds which were lightly salted. 2. Normally they scrape the fat off the skins and fry the skins for the dish above. However sometimes they leave the fat and some meat attached to the skin...cube it and fry it up. The cubes here were also very light and not heavy tasting.....these cubes literally melt in your mouth. So very tender. Again a great preparation. 3. Deep fried pig tails. This is like eating carnitas and cracklin on a stick. What a great experience if you never had one. Grrrrrrrrrr. I found out they only serve menudo on weekends.... If you decide you are brave enough to come to this place....be forewarned that all they serve here is pig. Just pig. Deep fried pig. If nothing else, coming here is an educational lesson in cultural awareness. This is truely Mexican soul food at its finest. And yes I am fine....I only had to ingest one bottle of Lipitor to balance out my system.....

Chicharroneria Orozco has the best carnitas in all of ABQ, and if you don't agree with me I will fight you! 1/2 lb carnitas, a quartered lime, onion/cilantro salad, a baggie of hot sauce, 15 handmade tortillas, and a bottle of jarritos - all for only $7.00. On a side note: Chicharroneria Orozco is no longer at 722 Isleta Blvd SW, They are now located at (I think) 709 Bridge - the first business to the right after you cross the river.
