Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

This is the place to go for New Mexican food. A true hole-in-the-wall treasure. Consuela makes the best green and red chili, and all the ingredients are fabulous. Vegetarian or meat lover this is the place to go. One thing to keep in mind is that this is basically a one person operation and at peak lunch hours you might need to wait 10-15 min just to place your order. I always try to get there 11:30-11:45 to avoid this.

I was told that if spicy is what I was after, this was the place to get it. So with reckless abandon, I took my wife to The Burrito Lady for lunch. We arrived around 12:30 and there was a full eating area (all of 5 or so tables to be generous) but nobody at the counter. After a good bit of time, the (presumably) burrito lady made her way to the counter and took our order. Here is where I am a bit conflicted and confused. My adovada burrito was not super hot and the adovada tasted reheated. In fact, you can watch her make use of the microwaves. But I also saw her pull out raw zucchini for my wife's calabacita burrito. I also ordered a taco and I can't figure out if it was a hard shell made soft from the fillings/cooking or a soft shell made hard. Either way, the taco was good but the sauce on the side (very spicy BTW) had a chunk of ice in it! Overall, I thought everything was good, not great. Besides tasting reheated, my adovada was strangely thick but flavorful and the meat was nicely pulled. Also, the potatoes in the burrito were a nice touch. My taco was strange but good and the sauce was very spicy. My wife's calabacita burrito was my favorite at the table and would likely be what I'd go with next time. Also, the whole experience was unique. Very homey-yet-hole-in-the-wall (if that makes sense). I think it would have been greatly improved by faster service, if you plan your time accordingly, it is fine. Also, they do not take credit cards but their prices are reasonable. A quick note, I define 3 stars as: Enjoyable meal and experience was on par *with expectations* (including cost). Any issues (minor or major) were addressed and resolved at least somewhat satisfactorily. Service was acceptable. I would go back but no huge hurry.

Hot, Hot, Hot! Ask for the chile on the side if you are not a vetran. All breakfast burritos are fantastic, you won't be disappointed. Make sure you have time to wait just in case they are slammed.

I don't know what the all buzz is about this place. Personally, I'm not impressed and probably won't be back. I ordered two breakfast burritos. The #3 adovada and the #4 chicharrone. The carne was very mushy and had no texture whatsoever. Same for the papas. However, the chicharrones were pretty good and her red chile was tasty, but not hot enough for my liking. I was expecting homemade tortillas, but they came out of a plastic bag. The burritos were medium sized, not huge like I've heard. I just ate both and I could eat another. Decent burritos with a homemade taste but I've had better ones at other places. If I was just rating the burritos, I would give 3 stars. My problem with this place is her service/attitude and the cash only thing. She was rude and short with me while I remained calm and friendly. I stood at the counter for atleast ten minutes waiting for my order to be taken. I got to catch up on words with friends, ebay auctions, emails, and even watched some youtube videos...all while I was standing at the counter. After I paid AND left a dollar tip, I didn't get a "thank you" or a smile and she never even made eye contact with me. Some tips: bring cash, call in your order and add 15 minutes to the estimated time, wait till 10:30 to order any lunch items and if you have a weak stomach, don't look in the kitchen.

Naturally, the burrito itself was very, very good. Earthy carne adovada bled from the homemade tortilla and rice across my lips and, as often happens when it's truly marinated for hours (if not days), the chile crept onto my fingers, chin, cheeks and jeans. Solid, flavorful sustenance that was something of a major hassle to wrangle up. Forgive me for the mistaken impression that this place would be a good go-to for a quick, cheap New Mexican wrap. 40 minutes, enter-to-exit, at 1:15 in the afternoon. There were two people ahead of me, and the Burrito Lady had one assistant in the back. Her service approach is totally haphazard; as cashier, waiter and chef, she's operating something that essentially amounts to a food truck in a strip mall. Depending on where you land in line, you can expect to wait quite a while. The Cash Only policy ruined my visit. Having no idea that she wouldn't accept my credit card, and with absolutely no signage anywhere stating as much, I was told I could go across the parking lot to the Bank of the West ATM. My stomach grumbling, my schedule thrown off, I trudged across the blacktop wondering why so many businesses still operate sans-plastic. I know credit costs the business more per transaction, and I know the banks are evil sons-a-bitches, and I know some people think this is somehow quaint, but get with the frickin' modern day program. Slipping my card into the jaws of the foreign ATM I received a familiar message: "This withdrawal will charge an additional $2.14 transaction fee. Continue?" Suddenly my $4 burrito cost $6.14, so I was a little pissed. But the real insult to injury was upon my return where, moving on, Burrito Lady was back in the kitchen putting together orders for the two new customers who entered while I piddled away at the machine outside. Add an additional ten minutes to my visit, blammo. Now I'm hungry, frustrated, and late.

Best breakfast burrito I've had in Albuquerque. I ordered the supreme thinking that many different types of meat wouldn't be the greatest, but I was wrong! Everything was great, but the green chile and bacon was superbly cooked (crispy and thick). Don't mind the reviews that say the food is too spicy. I haven't been eating much green chile in the last 4 years and found the level of hotness the perfect balance.
(5)Mike S.
Yes...5 Stars. I have been enjoying "The Burrito Lady" for the past 10 years. Her food is authentic, fresh, deliciously spiced and prepared with love. Her cooking is known as "Santa Rosa Style". My very favorite on the menu is the Roast Beef Burrito. A hot flour tortilla filled with luscious tender slices of roast beef, sautéed onions and green chile. Her breakfast burritos are to die for, especially the "Supreme" which is filled with fresh eggs, potatoes, Carne Adovada, Bacon, Ham, and red or green chile. Another favorite is the Chicken and Calabasitas (zucchini squash) lunch burrito. Her Enchilada and Taco plates are legend. Her bowl of red or green chile with beans is like "mama used to make". My friends loved it. You might want to get some to go too. Her Tamales and Huevos Rancheros are mouth watering and so full of flavor. BTW, here in New Mexico, the correct and official way to spell CHILE is with an "E" at the end, NOT an "I". So get it right, or the "chile police" will show up at your front door faster than you can say Chicharrones !!! This is a favorite with the locals and fast becoming a must return with out of state visitors. Having said that, a few things you should know about this wonderful eating establishment... Consuelo Flores (The Burrito Lady), is a unique character. She doesn't like to be rushed, she prepares each order with love and takes the time needed to prepare your food properly. The prices are more than reasonable. .You really get value at this restaurant. Best to call in advance for your take out order, (505-271-2268). She is only open Tuesdays thru Fridays, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and CASH ONLY, no credit cards. There are just a couple of tables both inside and outside, so if you are planning to eat there, don't expect McDonald's like service, it's not gonna happen. Set some time aside. If you really relish good, honest home cooking and like it "hotttt", this is definitely a place you want to put on your "bucket list". I highly recommend it !!! Mike Santullo Albuquerque, New Mexico

Favorite breakfast burritos in Abq, and at great prices. I'd eat here all the time if it weren't for her limited hours, cash-only policy, and no drive through.
(5)Margaret M.
So, I read up on the b-lady, knew it was cash only, and after passing by one too many times I finally stopped in. Early. Got a chicharrones w red and a chicken n rice w green to go. Both were very very good. My initial thought after biting into the chicken n rice was, "they are not playing!" Super spicy, I felt the vitamins slapping me in the face! Anyway, a little patience and cash on hand are good ideas. I would wait for a burrito for sure from here - and I know where we're going to lunch the next time my dad comes to visit!
(4)Alex S.
Best Burritos in the state! They're one of a kind, and they have the very essential local touch. Best place to come check out if your looking for a local spot for breakfast.
(5)Kristine S.
Best burritos in Albuquerque. The breakfast supreme is excellent. No green chile for me. Too Hot! Been going here for over 8 years and have never been disappointed.
(5)Robert B.
As others have mentioned, this place can be very slow at peak times. It's basically a one-woman shop. Okay, not totally, she has a couple helpers. But she's the main driver of this place. Call in your order, or plan to hang around a bit. There are a couple of small tables, but most people seem to pick up their food to-go. There is a wide selection of burritos and other Mexican food. Portions are good and prices are cheap to fair. Be aware, the chile is hot! Both red and green. Super flavorful, but you should have something to drink handy.
(4)Richard F.
Went there for the breakfast burrito. We had the supreme, and it was very good, a bit difficult to eat, but yummy, and kept me and my wife going all day. It's pretty popular and service was a bit slow, but not too bad. If you know what you want you could call ahead and speed up the process. Most people had their food to go, but there were a few tables and chairs, even a few outside, so we ate out there with our dog, which was a bonus!
(4)Janelle R.
Great breakfast place if you like authentic home style food! The red chile has the best flavor; just the right amount of heat, garlic and salt! Green chile is great too...it just has more heat! I usually get a vegetarian breakfast burrito with red chile. I recommend take out, because it's a small place!
(4)Jay H.
CASH ONLY!!! I read the reviews so I knew this. Just thought I tell you again. The burrito lunch plates are where it's at. I've heard mixed things about everything else. I had a combo plate the other day, enchilada / taco / tamale / rice and beans, and it filled me up but waaay too much red chile and the taco wasn't anything to tell mom about. I'll go back and stick with what the restaurant is named for. The green chile is smoking hot too. Come early, call ahead, bring cash and be prepared for spice. 4 stars for not having a menu where everything is the bomb.
(4)Ima G.
Read the reviews and decided to give it a try. Portions are huge- evidently food is great- I wouldn't know- cook in the back was coughing all over the food- decided to eat elsewhere.....
(1)Rok J.
Bottom Line First: Generous portions of flavorful food reasonably priced. Important Note: Cash only! They don't take plastic. Food: A friend & I had breakfast at Burrito Lady. Friend had huevos rancheros & said they tasted really good. I ordered roast beef burrito with green chile sauce after reading online recommendations for it. Meat was fall-apart tender. The green chile sauce had both a lot of chile flavor & a goodly portion of heat. The green chile tread that fine line between hot and too hot without going over it. As other reviewers have said, this is not an eatery for those with a tender tongue. The Burrito Lady dances to a spicy tune!! I had a cup of coffee that was acceptable in flavor & strength. The Burrito Lady brought a couple glasses of water to our table & left the pitcher with us in case we needed more. Nice touch! She had a chocolate frosted double-layer chocolate cake that we didn't have room left to try. Maybe next time. Tab with tax for the two of us ran in the $13 range, which struck me as very reasonable considering the quality & quantity of the food and the very friendly reception we recived. Seating & Ambience: Minimal seating in a confined space. I recall seeing seating for perhaps 8 to 10 people at tables or a psuedo- counter, with a few extra chairs by the door for people waiting to pick up take-out orders. Make no mistake, this is a tiny hole-in-the-wall joint with both the good & bad points typical of such places. The space could easily feel crowded if there were many people here at one time. That day we were the only sit-down customers. Everyone else was doing "grab & go" takeout orders that they had phoned in. The emphasis at Burrito Lady is on the food, not fancying up the surroundings. The overall ambience was well-lit & bright. The premises looked clean & well kept up when we were there. While some online reviews report varying levels of friendliness at this eatery, we received friendly & cordial service throughout our liesurely hour-long breakfast. Note that the food arrived at table quickly after we ordered it. Breakfast lasted an hour because we lingered over our meal and received no pressure whatsoever to hurry up or move along. If anything, the owner seemed happy that we had chosen to hang out at her place for our morning get together. I intend to return to Burrito Lady for more of her spicy flavorful food at quite reasonable prices. See you there!!

I'm still snuffling. A little because the chile was so hot, a little because Consuelo was so cute, but mostly just out of pure happiness. The smothered supreme breakfast burrito comes with no options. It's all in there, bacon, ham, adovada, eggs, potatoes. The tortillas are fresh and hot and she heats them over the burners so they are perfectly browned, but not crispy. The green chile is excellent and I wanted to ask where she got it because it is perfectly hot, (at least for people who like it hot. And some like it hot.). She calls it Santa Rosa style cooking, and as such makes Santa Rosa sound like a dream destination with Burrito Ladies running amuck all over town.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I really don't understand New Mexico's obsession with stewed green chili and sloppy burritos. I came here with a couple of coworkers and a local Albuquerquean, who swears by this place and considers it the best burrito joint in the world. At first, we met Consuela, who runs this place all by herself and is hence the "Burrito Lady." She is one of the nicest business owners you'll ever meet and we had a great chat with her after the meal. It's sort of like coming over to your friend's house for dinner as a kid and having his mom give you that true genuine home cooking hospitality. We asked Consuela to just whip something up and surprise us, and surprise she did. On my plate came a tortilla with some beans, green chili, red sauce, pulled pork, and grilled beef. One tortilla can't possibly handle everything she piles on it, so it's best to just ask for another "shell" for free. The entire mix was just so-so for me. Very gooey, spicy, and not too much meat. Definitely not as much as there were beans and green chili. By the end, I was stuffed and satisfied, but the only taste left in my mouth was the beans and spice. I expected a much higher quality product with much more flavor variety, so maybe I shouldn't have ordered the "special."

Best burrito I have ever had. The wait, however, is long even when I call to order ahead.
(5)Ed C.
Consuelo is an angel! I was visiting a "seedy" establishment next door when an uncontrollable hunger took over my body. If you live in ABQ, you know what hunger I'm talking about: the hunger for spicy red chile! I stepped in the door and waited about 15 minutes before Consuelo noticed I was there. She asked me what I would like to have: I replied that I would like to try her steak burrito with the red. She told me "No, You would rather have the pork chop and potato burrito with red" - as she reminds me of my own mother, I did not argue, and just nodded my head in (what I thought was) defeat. Well, like any good mother, she did not lead me astray. That pork chop and potato burrito was flippin' AWESOME!!!! My head is still sweating from the spicy red chile! I'm so happy to have found this little joint. While it's quite a drive from my office, I will surely make the trek to the corner of Eubank and Lomas on a regular basis from now on!

Word to the wise - call in your order, don't order in person. (Unless you are feeling very leisurely and have time to spare.) This is a small, hole in the wall place run by a very interesting woman. She is brash and wants to know you love her food as is - she will accept some substitutions, but is not fond of them. The green and red chili are both extremely hot - there is no medium at The Burrito Lady. I don't think she has knows there is a word called mild. The food is pretty darn good. I absolutely recommend the bacon breakfast burrito, although I would add some salt. The bacon was fantastic - exactly as I like it, crispy and thick. The lunch burritos are good - I like that she uses regular size burritos and not some huge manhole covers. The filling isn't wrapped up and secure, but it's not overkill on the tortilla and the portion is perfect. I have to wonder why they have a microwave... Never my favorite thing to see in a restaurant, particularly a small place like this that shouldn't need it. Either they are re-heating something or thawing frozen stuff - neither thought appeals. They are SLOW..... Did I mention that? Be prepared to wait or better yet - call in your order on your way there. They do run out of stuff, so be prepared for that - have a backup order ready. They are really nice, and unfortunately have limited hours. No weekends is a major bummer. Give it a try - good stuff.

As a life long New Mexico resident I have vet high standards when it comes to burritos. The Burrito Lady makes the best burritos I've ever had by far!
(5)Daniel W.
As I type I'm eating perhaps the most delicious breakfast burrito in New Mexico, Supreme Breakfast Burrito smothered in Green Chile, which speaks volumes because NM probably has the best breakfast burritos in the world. I've been eating here for years and have learned these 3 rules that you MUST abide by in order to have a positive experience: 1. CALL YOU ORDER IN! - At the most she has 2 people working there including herself. If you just walk in off the street you could potentially wait 20 minutes just to place your order. 2. BRING CASH! - She doesn't accept debit/credit (there is a B of A ATM in the parking lot if you forget) 3. DON"T COMPLAIN WHEN THE CHILE IS TOO HOT! (I'm talking to you, lady from SD :) ) - People from out of state probably can't handle the heat. I don't know exactly where she gets her green chile but I have yet to find a place in New Mexico that has better, hotter, or tastier chile.

Wow! The rave reviews about this place are correct! I had a ground beef, potato, and egg burrito and I was thoroughly impressed. You walk into this place and it's a hole in the wall, kinda literally. There's enough sitting room for about 6-9 people. There are really nice houseplants all over and you can order directly from the burrito lady, who was really nice. The burrito was super tasty. It was absolutely loaded with ground beef, crispy potatoes, egg, cheese, onions, and tasty, homemade red chile. You may need a fork and knife, 'cuz the burrito can get pretty messy! Also, make sure you take cash because the burrito lady does not take credit/debit cards. Go there! You won't be disappointed.

Very unprofessional and mediocre food. The burritos were okay but not amazing. The main issue I had was with the service or rather the lack thereof. Me and my wife walked in went to order our food. The guy at the counter seemed annoyed that I did not know what I was getting even though the menu is not posted and is only available for viewing once you get to the counter. The kitchen was very VERY dirty. All of this didn't bother me near as much as the "burrito lady" herself. She brought out our order and put out her hand for payment. I asked her how much and she seemed annoyed that I did not do the math myself. After giving me the total I then found out that she only accepts cash. It is not posted anywhere. Luckily this was the rare occasion that I carried cash. The whole experience was uncomfortable. So unless you are professor X and can read minds I would definitely pass on this place. To add insult to injury the burrito was about a 2 out of 5. I will not be back

Seriously the best burritos the world has to offer. I cannot get enough of the Supreme Breakfast Burrito (#1). Excellent service, excellent product, and the best prices in town.

Love this small hole in the wall place,Ive been eating here a long time. Her green chile can some times eat the paint off walls..Thats why I get the red chile. The burritos are big and the price is right.Seriously good burritos.

Went here after reading ABQ the magazine. It is one lady running everything (orders, cooking) and so you might have to wait a few minutes, but it is worth it. Today the green was the spicier chile and it was excellent - my lips were tingling and I kind of got the hiccups. My wife had "Christmas" on her burrito and the red had a great smokey flavor. It is a trek from my house, but if I am over on the East Side I will defintely go back.

The Supreme is the best (and most deadly) breakfast burrito in Albuquerque. Consuela, "The Burrito Lady" is an absolute treasure. If you're looking for a home style "hole in the wall" with food that will knock your socks off, this is the place. It's a mixed blessing that this establishment is not on my daily route. If it were, I'd weigh over 300 lbs.

I've been a regular for over 10 years now. This is my favorite restaurant ever! I always get the supreme breakfast burrito. It takes a while to get your food sometimes, even if you call your order in, so just be prepared to wait anywhere from 5-20 minutes depending on the size of your order. Trust me, it's absolutely worth the wait!

I don't generally give out 5 stars to places I have only visited once.....but this place was as good as it gets for a burrito... Located in a strip mall behind a gas station on the NE corner of Lomas and Eubank it can be easy to miss. Every time I go I hear my brother and his partner talk about this place near their house and how they have both wanted to go but have never had the chance... On my last trip to ABQ, my brother and I decided to stop here and pick up some burritos. Most of their burritos (handheld) are $4 each and a few others are more and some like the bean and cheese are less. My brother got the chicharrone breakfast burrito with green chile (chicharrones, potatoes, green chile, eggs, cheese and onions). I went for the carne adovada breakfast (red chile maranated pork, potatoes, egg, cheese and onions) and we picked up my mom a bacon with green chile breakfast burrito. The eggs for the burritos were not scrambled they were fried to an over medium/overhard, as I found myself biting into yolk. This was different but I wasn't disappointed. My brother was in ecstasy with his burrito and after taking a bite for myself I could see why, the flavor[grease] of the chicharrones permeated all the ingredients in the burrito. Rich and sooo good! My carne adovada was tender and much hotter than the green but not overwhelming, it too rendered me speechless until I finished it. My mom's bacon and green....wow....the bacon flavor went all the way through the burrito and the green chile. It was awesome. They all were. This is pretty much a one woman show, expect a bit of a wait if there is someone before you. But it is worth the wait!

First time here. Really good green chili breakfast burritos! It was a little messy. Tortilla opened up on me. Not sure if its always like this but the burrito itself was REALLY good. Will try again. Best for to-go orders. Small eating area. Give it a try. I know I will.

Awesome! Eat there every time I go home. Owner is always on site cooking. You will not be disappointed, get the supreme and marvel at all the flavor.

The Burrito Lady is amazing! Cheap, DELICIOUS burritos. What more can you ask for? I've never even tried anything else, though I'm sure everything is just as good. The Supreme Breakfast Burrito is fantastic! Carne adovada, bacon, and ham (I get mine with chicharrones instead), potatoes, eggs, onion, cheese, red chile, and green chile. Yes, it's pork, on pork, on pork and I can't have this every week. But at only $4, I'm tempted to stop by for one everyday! I know, it sounds like a lot of stuff in there, but all of the flavors meld so well together. I'm a native New Mexican, and believe me when I say that their red and green chile are both spicy! They're also very flavorful, and I can't get enough. Tip: Call your order in ahead of time. This is a small, family owned restaurant so it takes them 15-20 minutes to make your order. Support our local businesses! :)

The Burrito Lady is my favorite breakfast place in ABQ and anywhere else for that matter. $4 even (Tax included) gets you a Supreme Breakfast Burrito. The BEST anywhere.... Carne Adovada, Eggs, Cheese, Bacon, Papitas (potatoes), Green chili.. Chili has a kick and the flavors all play nice together.... It is a hole in the wall place that is only open until 2pm monday - friday. Consuelo is the owner and she is usually very nice. She does get very busy at times and she gets pretty distracted when that happens. If you can call ahead she will have your burritos ready for you when you get there. Go for the food, not the atmosphere!! She is setup to sell you a burrito to go. She has a few tables and chairs, but don't count on getting one. She does not have fountain drinks, only cans, but she has a wide variety. Try it.. You WILL go back..

After reading the great ratings on this little place we were anxious to try the food but I am sorry to say we didn't get the opportunity. We walked into the place and it is dirty. There was a woman standing with her back to us talking to someone in the back room which I assume is the kitchen. She hollered she would be with us in a minute, we waited and another customer entered. We all waited, then we left. The woman behind us recommended Santiago's down the street. She said this has happened to her 3 times at the Burrito Lady. Oh well, we won't try again. Good luck to those who do. The decor looks like old garage sale that hasn't been cleaned up.

When it comes to the Burrito Lady, I have two words for you - "Mmm" and "Mmm". We just went there today for the first time and it was awesome. Don't go there looking for ambience - it's a tiny hole in the wall in an unattractive strip mall. But DO go for extremely tasty burritos. My husband and I got the Supreme and the Calabacitas and they were both excellent. Good flavors, good mix of ingredients, good buttery tortilla, and an incredible value at $8 for both of us. Burrito lovers - you owe yourself a trip to the Burrito Lady!

Tucked away in a Burque strip mall, this place is a hidden gem. The supreme breakfast burrito is one of the best in the city! Cash only, usually real busy, but worth the wait.

Quality food, no doubt, but the tortillas don't envelope the filling making you rely on the foil to catch falling filling. She should call herself The 'Over-Sized Taco' Lady.

We were in town for a marching band competition and looking for something better than ho-hum, run of the mill hotel breakfast. After consulting Yelp, we decided on The Burrito Lady, and boy am I glad we did!! The place is in a little strip mall, and kind of back near the corner, but it was easy to spot, even for us out of towners. No trouble getting there or finding it at all. Be forewarned this is a cash-only operation. Also, only opened Mon-Fri. So, we went on this Friday morning, not sure what to expect. We walked in and we were immediately greeted by Consuela....the Burrito Lady herself! She was taking orders, giving out take out orders, and greeting, basically doing it all! We ordered (me a Carne Adovada Breakfast Burrito and my husband a bacon/egg/potato breakfast burrito with Green Chile) We decided to eat there at one of 4 or so tables. Consuela assured us that we had the whole restaurant to ourselves LOL we weren't worried about it. While we sat and awaited our breakfast another person came in to place an order. In conversation with Consuela this other customer said that it was her birthday. Consuela insisted on cutting her a pc. of cake, giving her a candle, and myself and my husband and the cook coming over to the counter and singing Happy Birthday. The other customer was touched....or scared, I'm not sure which ;P Our food arrived shortly after and O.M.G.....Deeeeelish!!! The Carne Adovada is pretty spicy so stay away if spicy is not your thing. My hubby said the green chile was hot too although I didn't taste his. Hubby loved, loved, loved the tortillas and talked about them pretty much the rest of the weekend! I'm sure he would still be talking about them except he is off on a business trip. We honestly felt like Consuela had invited us into her home and cooked us breakfast while we were there. I don't know when we'll be back in ABQ, but we would definitely recommend you go see The Burrito Lady :)

Love the Burrito lady. This used to be my "go to" place to get a fantastic burrito and after today it still is. Why am I giving it 4 stars? A couple reasons actually. First it's still cash only. How I would love for Consuelo to charge me $1 more if I was using credit. This would make it easier than driving to an ATM first. Second is that although they told me 15 mins when I arrived 25 mins later the young girl saw me within 2 mins but didn't acknowledge me. I thought she was getting my food. 7 mins later I finally rang the bell and Consuelo came out smiling. Why didn't the other girl tell her I was there? Or better yet tell me it would be longer? To make it worse they didn't have my burrito that I ordered. Why didn't they call me?? So I got a substitute which I quite enjoyed. The last reason I guess other than making me wait 40 mins for a call ahead and not having what I ordered is that the chili was really damn hot. I quite enjoyed the burning sensation but my bf...well let's say he didn't cry tears of joy. It was half comical half sad to see a grown man practically cry over how hot it was. Oh those gringos you say. All I can say is ask for the green chili next time you stop by, you won't forget it.

Cash only. Limited hours. Best burritos I've had in a LONG LONG time. A perfect mix of lots of ingredients, instead of a giant glob of just one or two. And when you say "smothered" they don't mess around. And the chile is HOT (spicy, for you out of towners), both the red and green. But delicious at the same time. *Edit* Advice: This is not a restaurant, it is a take out joint. Call ahead for takeout, this place is BUSY and ridiculously small.

If you long for real, homecooked New Mexican this is the best spot east of Fourth Street. Been coming here for about eight years and still can't get enough! The chile is very distinct in flavor and is made for those of us that like it HOT with flavor; not just heat. Everything i've tried has been great. Real standouts are Chicken Enchiladas ( Tues. only), Roast Beef tacos to die for, Chicken and Callabacitas that will blow your socks off. The tamales are also a must. If in doubt go with a Supreme Burrito or Stuufed Sopa. Carne Adovada, diced ham, bacon, eggs,REAL cut potatoes, cheese and X-Mas mix of chile. Great starting point if you haven't visited before, as is anything with the Roast Beef. Remember, this chile is only for real chile-heads! Make sure and take a slice of her chocolate cake home....you'll wish you had gotten two once you get home and try it. Cash only, and be prepared to be patient- this isn't fast food! Or call ahead and save the time ! Well worth any wait !

Home of my favorite breakfast burrito! I like to consider myself a connoisseur of breakfast burritos, I've been enjoying them as long as I can remember. I may not live in New Mexico anymore but the Burrito Lady is one of the first stops every time I return. The chile is hot, she uses tasty ingredient's and the burritos are a reasonable size (I've seen other places serve burrito's the size of a small Chihuahua). In addition to burrito's she also makes a mean Tamale.

This is classic whole in the wall secret! Located on the corner of Lomas and Eubank the Burrito Lady is well hidden and definitely not the kind of place I would just wander into but you should! The breakfast burritos hit the spot! There are numerous combinations and they have the NM classic - carne adovada. I personally didn't try it (being a veggie and everything) but the rest of my group raved the delicious spices and tender meat. The red and green chili sauces are what make the burritos although even without the sauces the perfectly sauteed potatoes, eggs and cheese make for an amazing burrito. And on top of it all the prices are PERFECT!!! There are a few tables if you want to eat in but the main focus is on takeaway. The ladies working there are also delightful =) You feel as though you are a guest at their house and they want to make you a quick, delicious meal to go. If you are in Albuquerque - you must pay a visit to the Burrito Lady!

Like many of the truly good restaurants in the world, Burrito Lady knows where time and attention are best spent. What goes on in the kitchen is far, far more important than whether or not there is some faux adobe on the brick or a tired looking lizard hanging on the wall. The food coming from that kitchen is all the evidence anyone needs that what happens over the stove and fryer is someone's vision - their true, unwavering belief in the rightness of something - being made incarnate. Ms Flores knows what she's about, and that's all you really need to know. Aside from that, the ecstatic response of your adrenal system will convince you that you're in the right place for burritos in Albuquerque.

Travelled through town on the way to Denver and the stop at The Burrito Lady was so good that I spent the next 450 miles thinking about it. Well worth a visit.

If she expanded, she'd make a friggin' fortune. She might even rule the world. These are by far the best burritos in Albuquerque. Worth it, no matter what the wait may be.

We had been away from New Mexico for over a year now and the first thing I wanted after when we returnes was some form of chile. We chose The Burrito Lady because of our NM. bible "New Mexico Chow". It never fails. I had a very yummy calabacitas burrito with green chile. I enjoyed it immensely. The service was very friendly and fast.
