I have been to this establishment about 4 times. Two times this past December and twice last year. It was first recommended to me by Mr. Went who works around the corner at Stay Gold tattoo. The food is good. I've had their enchiladas with mole. This dish is not served, instead I requested it to be with mole. I've had breakfast there and it was a big place with some nice tortillas. I also had a plate of grilled chicken with some nice sauce on top. One thing that I remember though, is their drinks. I've ordered the melon drink and it is good. It is surved in a big fancy looking glass, which in my opinion shouldn't but it cool with me. I get it to drink the jugo de melon. The portions are good and pretty reasonable. Good place to eat and to chill. The people are nice also.

This is the best place in New Mexico. The food is great and the ambiance is authentically Mexican kitch. They had a live band speaking about social justice for immigrants in-between genuinely non-monotonous Mexican music (and that is effing rare). Eat here unless you want Mexican babies to die of exposure.

Don't go here. Pretty simple. The food is bland, overcooked, no taste. The atmosphere is terrible, dangerous at night. Margaritas tasted like ice water. The fajitas had weird tomatoes on it, chicken had a weird taste, as if it were just thawed from frozen. I could go on and on, but no need to because I don't expect people to go here.

Rain or shine, weathering a random snow in October or basking in the hot burnin' sun, the Bandido Hideout Mask Man is your Mexican wrestling beacon and UNM horchata honcho who embodies the character, mystery and allure of someone who qualifies for, perhaps, The Most Interesting Man in New Mexico. This masked bandit - zen master of masculine, brute sign gyration with just a hint of sexually suggestive undertones - always brightens my lazy walk or drive up Route 66. Should you witness him wrapped up in a winter coat on a 110 degree day and wonder aloud whether his mask might pose risk of heat stroke or suffocation, do not fret, my friends, for the Bandido Hideout Mask Man shall never lead you astray, and it's quite likely that he, too, plans to indulge in that $1.50 Bud Light Lime special that his plaque advertises, as soon as his 12 hour shift is over. Bueno, Mask Man. Bueno.

What is there not to like about this hole in the wall: The masked bandido on Central, The Half Rotisserie Chicken for $5, The salsa bar, the great drink specials, the simple fact that you can get a seat no matter the time of the day, The Giant Burrito, the authentic food...okay, I digress. This place beats out that other place that people love to take guests to on the edge of town for over-priced and over-hyped food any day of the week.

I was late for class one day so I just decided to just pop in here instead.... the ambience is so vibrant!!!!! There is one wall covered by the ancient calendar and other walls sport really bold colors with portraits of well-known Mexican icons like Pedro Infante and Diego Rivera's work. The music was lovely- in the time I was there, I got some Chente and some Paquita and then some Luis Mi!!!! I ordered the torta de barbacoa. It came with a cute little side of rice. As an authentic Mexicana, this torta was damn good. The bread was toasted perfectly, the mayo and beans complemented the lettuce and tomato just right and oooooh that avocado. It was all very good. I recommend.

We just happened to see the sign for their special, $2.99 for a quarter chicken with rice and beans. The half chicken was only $4.99. The chicken was perfect, roasted so the skin was crispy and yet still moist. Love this place.

I came here for a musical group that was playing and I didn't really eat here, but I did taste their large nachos and I wasn't a fan of their beans. But the current staff is very friendly and accomodating, and if I were to come back, it would be for the friendliness of the staff, local music and large glasses of Margaritas. =)

Nice big open environment, clean and for the most part friendly. I came here for the open Mike night on a Monday which was cool but the bar is royally confused. first off its a Mexican restaurant, they had an entire wall of nothing but wine as far as I could see. I ordered a Modelo Especial pints cause there was a banner with a special on them and they didn'thave any So I got a shock top. they served it with a lime and a salted rim; I asked the bartender for an orange, with an odd look she told me they didn't have any. the salt and lime made the beer taste horrible, they don't know how to serve shock top. finally I asked the bartender if they had any tequila because I didn't see any and the bartender had to think about it. she went to go look and when she found the tequila there were only two kinds and I had never herd of or even seen these kinds of tequila even in a liquor store. double checking with her that these were the only two kinds, she assured me that was it. I then asked her which one was more popular? She didn't know. Then when I asked which one she liked better? She had no reply with a blank stare on her face. I'm not sure what kind of a restaurant they want to be but quiet frankly I'm not sure they know what kind of restaurant they want to be. But the bathrooms were clean

Thought I might give this place a try... Then I saw the menu and realized I'm not stupid enough to pay such ridiculously inflated prices for generic Mexican food when I can go up the road and get real authentic Mexican food at half the price. I'd reconsider if they ever stopped price gouging their menu. I'm guessing all of their business comes from trust fund college kids and tourists.

I only give it one star because I can't figure out how to give it a half star. We where traveling through and looking for a place to deliver to our hotel. First off they boost gluten free don't believe them!! We orderEd through yelp so we could provide specific information about my sons order because he can not have gluten. Well I don't belief they paid any attention to my notes because my son Bly took a couple of bites spit out the last and could not eat the food because it was disgusting. Within a few hours my son started feeling sick. I wish people would take this allergy more seriously!!! Well unfortunately none of the four meals we received where eatable!! I would not recommend this place to anyone. McDonald's is better and that's saying a lot!!

We were disappointed in the service here - the waitress was not attentive at all. If you want to spend more than 2 hours at a restaurant, go here! They had karaoke on a Wed. So that was interesting. The food was okay - we both ordered the quesadillas and they were nothing special.

I can't speak to the restaurant, this is a delivery review. It was really cheap so my expectations were low which turned out to be a good thing. It's a two and a halfer but I'll round up. What we ordered: Queso Fundido: chorizo, champinones and chili con rajas. What we got: congealed jack cheese in a piece of foil (seriously, they threw some cheese on foil and melted it and sent it to us) with some chili verde on the side in a styrofoam cup. No chorizo, no mushrooms, no roasted chile. This is really why I'm writing this review after years of inactivity, it was too funny to let slide. The pastor tacos were supposed to be pork with pineapple and red chile, instead there were grapes and some mystery fruit which was fine BUT they sent obviously rotten slices of lime with the tacos. That's gross. I'll probably desperation order the tacos again but I'm pretty iffy about giving anything else there a shot.

Ordered for delivery. The driver got lost and after our order was 40 minutes late, they started preparing a new order. Our first order did arrive shortly after my call and I was pleasantly surprised with how good everything was!!! I did ask the delivery driver to notify the restaurant that she arrived but our second order also came and they gave it to us free of charge. Although it was late, the service was very good and although I'm a Mexican food snob from out of town, I'm looking forward to ordering from them again. I highly recommend!

Don't do it! Went on a one hour lunch . After ordering, it came almost 1/2 HOUR later. I counted 7 tables occupied in the place. Had ordered a super burrito, DISGUSTING! I finished less then a third, the rest wasn't even worth putting in a box and taking with me. Waitress delivered, no chips/salsa, nothing. and then disappeared. Never saw her again. Had to go up to the bar to get a check. This place shouldn't even be open, maybe someone who is realllly drunk might find their food edible.

NO BUENO! Not a fan at all. I wouldn't go back, and luckily, I don't live anywhere near it. I was told to go here for the margaritas...ICK! So terrible...tasted like sweetness with a little tequila. Def good for a broke college kid with low expectations.

Tried to go to Cecila's, which is closed weekends (update your hours, Yelp) and didn't have time to drive around searching for another place so I unfortunately ended up here. I asked what was in the breakfast burrito and was told bacon, egg, green chile and cheese. I ordered the burrito (which was on the special board) no cheese and a mango agua fresca. The waiter came back to report that there was "something weird" in the agua fresca; should have left at this point. The chips were stale and inedible, and the burrito was mostly unseasoned potatoes (still cold in the middle) with a piece of bacon and one egg, no chile. I figured no big deal b/c it was the special. When I went to pay I was told that was the regular priced version b/c it had bacon. wtf?! 3.5 avg stars, I don't think so.

Food was bland, cold, and the place just had a scuzzy feeling to it. Never again.

Great for the student crowd--relatively cheap, open very late, good drink specials, literally steps from UNM campus. Try the "super burrito" lunch special--for 6 bucks you get a GIGANTIC burrito laden with meat, chile, guacamole, and more. I have never finished one in one sitting. It's pretty much two meals in one. Sometimes a language barrier with the service if you don't speak Spanish, but they are always friendly and never pushy. Be very careful where you park though! Businesses in this area are very tow-happy.

Eclectic, kind of funky and festive- I totally embraced this upon walking in. My parents have been coming here for years and it was sweet to see that the staff remembered them and greeted them like long-lost friends. Let's just acknowledge the pink elephant in the room right away- the food isn't that great, the margs aren't that great, but... I really didn't care. Sometimes, those things can be overridden by the overall experience. What? Don't go to a restaurant for the food? Gasp! Heresy! Look, they're not trying to compete in the foodie world. What they are doing, and quite well, I might add, is providing cheap food with large portions, and just being themselves. Yes, English is not the first language spoken here and I think that's pretty rad, too. Learn some Spanish, people. Have you forgotten where you live? Bandito is staying true to itself, so get on board. They've been in business a loooooong time. And that says a lot.

Ate here after reading the other reviews - must be that they're pretty old so should've gone there with lower expectations. The chips we were given were old and hard (they must reuse) but the salsas were good. The service is super slow. I ordered the Queso Fundido as an appetizer and it came with the meals and took about 1/2 hour. Note: don't order the Queso Fundido. Could be that out East the queso is served differently, as a creamy dip, but when it came, it was just a blob of melted cheese with about 1/4 inch of oil which had separated. When I asked if this was how it was supposed to be, the waiter said he'd ask the manager. He came back and said the manager said it's melted Monterrey Jack. She didn't even bother to come over. I didn't eat it. For the entrees, my husband ordered the cheese enchiladas with red chili and they were ok. I ordered for my main meal, the hot tilapia - which turned out to be a deep fried whole fish with hot sauce on it. The sauce was pretty tasty (not that spicy) and the fish was so-so (seemed undercooked and towards the end, very fishy). Waiter was nice although did not speak English well and we had a hard time communicating. He ended up taking the appetizer off, which was unexpected. But, bottom line - skip it (1/2 and hour after dinner, I got a horrible stomach ache).

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
