This is the kind of restaurant which does everything right. Friendly staff, great food and bright sunny interior all adds up to a great relaxing lunch. The waiter was super nice to my two boys. They enjoyed the food--even my four year old who does not eat my cooking. His favorites were the plantains and the lulu milkshake. My oldest liked the chorizo. Both liked the pineapple chicken. The latter can easily be shared as a main dish with adults and kids. Wish I still lived in nob hill so we could visit more often.

Straight up delicious. I visited El Pollo a few times, but this location is sleeker and yet more homey. I sat right in view of the small kitchen, and the smell of simmering sauces tempted my appetite while I waited for my meal. It came out quickly- arepas con hogao and beans. Everything was seasoned with piquancy, salted by a practiced hand, and served at just the right temperature to combat an early, chilly dusk. I left with a warm belly. My suggestion to the restaurant- instead of the small coffee candy brought with my check, why not a spoonful of the house dessert?

I have to say I've only written one review before, but Ajiaco really warrants word of mouth praise. The service was attentive and friendly. The food flawless. My son and I shared a half dozen items like a pair of fatties. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the many flavors and sauces that accompanied it, only added to the wow factor. We'll definitely be headed back to try the right side of the menu.

I decided to explore this restaurant for my birthday tonight and I was not disappointed! The staff is so friendly! It is a charming small restaurant with a Latin American vibe and authentic Colombian cuisine. Brought back so many pleasant memories of my travels in Latin America. And I love the beautiful wildflowers out front. We shared the yuca frita appetizer and enjoyed it. For the main course, I had the patacon con ropa vieja, which was delicious. My dad liked it too and he has a very picky traditional American palate. They serve plantains prepared either salty/fried or sweet based on the plate you select, so if you have a preference be sure to ask. The waitress was very friendly and the service was great. On top of this, the waitress and kitchen staff surprised me with a dessert and happy birthday song in Spanish to help me celebrate. Will definitely be going back and recommending to my friends!

Love this place! Great staff, good vibe, friendly and laid back. Amazing sauces, flavors. Outstanding plantain appetizer, delicious vegetarian plate. Super yum!

Very good. Went with my fiancé who was born and raised in Colombia. We are from LA and new to ABQ so we were sad to learn there was literally only ONE true colombian place here. Food was very good although on the pricy side for the portions. One thing this place was missing were our favorite, Pandebono. Seriously? Colombians don't have much when it comes to good food, but those cheese ball breads are my favorite! Couldn't believe they had none! The chicharron was amazing though! Tomorrow we are going back with my fiance's grandma. Let's see what she thinks.

Excellent service, friendly clean atmosphere. Food was interesting. Pass on the sweet plantains. Had the shredded beef and beans. Very good

I got the pollo a la plancha and it was the juiciest chicken I've ever had. I loved the pineapples and plantains. It was a great combination of sweet and savory. I will definitely be back for more!

Loved to see a new restaurant in this area. We all tried a different dish and the favorite of the table was : Ropa Vieja. We felt the food was under seasoned and over priced for the portion for example the bowl of soup was closer to cup size. Coffee was authentically Columbian. Presentation of the dishes was as impressive as the interior decor.

What a great find. I tried a variety of the food here and it's all very authentic. Delicious. If you've never had Colombian food definitely try it.

My wife and I tried Ajiaco for the first time on Friday night, and we were both very impressed with the crisp, clean decor, the warm, cordial service, and the delicious, elegantly presented food. This was one of the most satisfying dining experiences I've had in Albuquerque. Highly recommended!

Ajiaco is amazing! The atmosphere is casual and comfortable, the service quick and friendly, and the food is fantastic. The juices made with milk are divine and the food was fresh, well prepared, and very flavorful. Tried the carne con arepas, the chimichurri tied the dish in beautifully. My husband had the no 1, which had a little of everything! We will definitely be back for more!

This just opened in my neighbor hood and I couldn't be more excited. EMPENADAS AROUND THE CORNER FROM MY HOUSE!!!!!!! The staff is friendly and very helpful and the food selection is fantastic. I have had the arroz con pollo already about 4 times and the grilled chicken with pineapple is fantastic as well. TRY THE JUICES! You won't regret it. EAT HERE!!!

Seriously great find. We went in mid-afternoon, when service is usually at its worst at restaurants, but the staff was very attentive and friendly. As a bonus, our waiter sounded a little a little bit like Javier Bardem, as he patiently explained the menu and Columbian customs to us. The menu can accommodate a wide variety of dietary needs, and it was a curiously great value, in spite of the lovely presentations and environment. We go to a lot of abq places just once, but we'll definitely be back here.

THIS PLACE IS AUTHENTIC COLOMBIAN FOOD! I have visited Colombia eight times and I know about the food. To get authentic Colombian food like these you need visit AJIACO COLOMBIAN BISTRO in ALBUQUERQUE, or pack your bags and head to Colombia, or find you a Colombian partner to have a Colombian Mother in Law!

Excellent food. Try the plantain soup, the empanadas, and the picada. Definitely recommend. The service is outstanding. Good job guys.

Ropa vieja, plantains, beans. Those were the best things I had. The location, service and ambiance are also very good. Portions could be better, especially on the ropa vieja, which I wouldn't have been able to make a whole meal out of if it was the only entree I ordered. The steak I had was very chewy and I'll pass next time on the coffee flan. I recommend this place for a date with some caveats. Not everything on the menu is done great. Overall, I'm a fan and laud the effort of this family-run business honing their model from a hole-in the-wall spot in the international district to a more upscale spot on the hill (Nob Hill, that is).

What an incredible find! Every dish was a mixture of delicious subtle flavors and beautifully presented. Don't miss the fried plantain and cheese dessert. Out of this world.

Great food really unique experience you have to really enjoy the Colombian food they have. Awesome food

So good the first time we went back. Shredded beef was ok but the grilled chicken with pineapple was great. Coffee flan is a must. The second time we had the chorizo. It was not the local stuff but was very tasty.

We were looking for a new place close by to try for our anniversary and we were not disappointed. First off the location couldn't be better. It's in the silver/nob hill area that reminded us a lot of Portland. We sat outside and had the perfect dinner. We started off with the green chili and the carne empanadas. Deliciousness dipped in the chimichurri sauce. Next we tried the house soup. Chicken with potatoes and corn and u add ur own cream avocado rice and capers. Very different but delicious. Husband had the special which was a grilled steak with mushrooms and onions and a creamy avocado dipping sauce and a salad with citrus dressing n pine nuts. Superb. I had the plancha chicken that came with pineapples, plantains and a salad that complimented it perfectly. Also, weird but true, the best white rice ever. We ended the meal with the coffee flan that came with a caramel sauce and berry topping. Delicious. The service was great and even though it took a little bit to get our food, it was well worth it. Planning on taking another trip there with various family members. I can't wait

Delicious and unique food. It was fresh and wonderfully presented. We enjoyed sitting on the patio. The service was friendly, informative, and prompt. We will be back. Try the fresh juice and the fried plantains.

A welcome addition to Albuquerque - the food is tasty, location excellent, and the service wonderful as well. I'd highly recommend exploring the unique menu and tastes that this restaurant has to offer.

Really cute spot in Nob Hill for some authentic Colombian comida. I went for lunch and got there before they opened at 11AM. The staff was very welcoming to us as the first costumers in for the day! There is indoor and outdoor seating, and the whole place has a chic bistro vibe. It fits in nicely with P'tit Louis, Limonata, and Michael Thomas all nearby. Ajiaco is distinct, however, in the type of food they bring to the table. Pun intended! I spent about 6 months in Colombia recently, and their offerings are the most authentic that I've found in Albuquerque. The empanadas were greasy guilty pleasures, and the jugos naturals were AWESOME. I pretty much subsisted on natural juices and avocados while in Colombia, and the maracuya (passion fruit) juice took me right back to the good 'ole days. For the main dish, I shared the Picada plato, which is kind of like a sampler plate, Colombian style. It was a substantial amount of food and I appreciated getting to try a wide assortment of their keystone cuisines. I have a special place in my heart for platanos, and these really hit the spot. I also thought their arepas were above average: they didn't just taste like cardboard! Anyone who has had a traditional arepa knows what I'm talking about. These had some cheesy deliciousness going on, and I was into it. The steak, chicharron, and chorizo were also great! I noticed on the menu they had some vegetarian options, but I clearly did not partake. For the next chilly winter day, I'll definitely be back to try the namesake ajiaco soup, and I'm looking forward to it.

Had dinner tonight with my girlfriend. On the food: I had the green chile empanada, and it and the chimichurri sauce it was served with were excellent. My partner had the pollo a la plancha and I had the bandeja paisa. The entrees with good, but not exceptional, and the steak that came with mine was close to inedible because it was so tough. The prices are reasonable, but that steak was inexcusably terrible. The worst part? Two large parties came in ahead of us, and we waited more than an hour for our food because the kitchen could not handle the load. An inexcusable faux pas, on a Friday night, no less, likely their busiest night - no plans for the extra customers? Ugh. If the food wasn't generally good, I'd be giving one star. The wait staff were helpful and apologetic, at least.

I had there food when it was El Pollo Real and it was damn good then so I knew Ajiaco would be good too. My girlfriend and I both had the arroz con pollo and we shared some arepas. Everything was delicious and the service was great. If you're looking for something out of the ordinary(for Albuquerque) then give this place a try! I would recommend the arroz con pollo and a few arepas. Enjoy.

Great authentic Colombian meal! The place was simple, clean and small. Our favorite was the fried yuca with chimichurri. Everything was tasty and affordable.

A seriously delicious and refreshing place! It's so nice to see something different and creative open up in the nob hill area. This place is as legit as it comes. The inside is simple but well thought out. There's only a few tables so you know you will be getting good service. We came in kind of late about an hour before close and the server still agreed to have us.( We got the big sample plate for 2 and I can honestly say it was one of he best things I've ever ordered. The meats are authentic Colombian and are full of flavor that differs from the next. Everything was cooked to perfection and was really an art in itself. I also got the passion fruit con leche and it was perfect! Some reviews have commented on the wait time but remember good authentic food takes time. If you wanted something fast, go to Taco Bell. The patience is worth the outcome! I will definitely be back.

This newly opened bistro has a nice selection of some of the more popular and well-known Colombian dishes--sopa ajiaco, bandeja paisa, arepas, patacones, fried yucca--all which I tried on my recent visit. The waitstaff was attentive and pleasant and the re-done space is light and cheery, if sparse. My major complaint is the fussy, hard to maneuver plates and bowls. There's a reason eating vessels (check the archaeological record folks) throughout history have been mostly round; these modern sleek dishes are a pain for eating soups and the lovely sauces, the latter of which are served in rations that are far too small for the food they are meant to accompany.

Occasionally one finds oneself wishing to be truly "home" for dinner... but without all the mess. And fuss. If home is... or in fantasies could be... Columbia, then Ajiaco is a great place to go. Loved every bit of this straightforward, simply delicious meal. Fresh fruit juices were excellent, empanadas (&their sauce) were really tasty, our entrées were simple and truly satisfying. Moderately priced, great value, fabulous service!

A Burqueño take, here. I am so starved for "ethnic" food. By national standards, that's a relatively obscene statement, because per-restaurant-capita this town offers a diverse menu for the culinarily adventurous, especially those seeking Latin eats. There's a lot to discover amongst the nooks and crannies of our town, you can find El Salvadoran, Peruvian, Cuban, heartland Mexican, and if you're wanton for Columbian, Ajiaco serves it up. I'm going to go soapbox, too, and assert that New Mexico owns a cultural authenticity the rest of the southwest cannot fathom. Forget Colorado, Texas and Arizona. New Mexicans embrace our place. We don't bastardize the foreign, we devour it. Ajiaco offers legit plates of Columbian eats and I'm so glad they're here. The chorizo isn't salted beyond oblivion, you can appreciate every morsel. The empanadas are precisely what you hope for, dripping in oil, cheese, yummy goodness. Come with a friend and enjoy the Picada plato, you will not leave empty-stomached. Better yet, bring a date. The dining room lends itself to a romantic vibe, not intimate, but bare and somewhat hip. If you're an adventurous foodie, you'll quickly find out if you're dining with your Soul Mate. This is a spectacular new restaurant on the Duke City scene, and I'm thrilled it's dropping some culinary science in Nob Hill.

I saw "Arepa de Choclo" on the menu and had to stop by even though I already had dinner plans. I've been looking for this dish since I got back from a trip to Colombia a few years ago, and it had been hard to find. We couldn't eat much since we already had dinner plans, but still had to try a few things: Beef and Chicken Empanada, Arepa de Choclo and the Guanabana drink mixed with milk. The empanadas were tasty- the beef was better than the chicken. The guanabana drink- the pulp is white, and the taste is hard to describe- creamy with a hint of citrus? Anyway, the drink was tasty. The Arepa de Choclo was a bit of a let down, and I know no dish is better than how it's made in its country. It was ok though- it is sweet corn with cheese in between and on the dessert menu here. Next time I'm in the area, I'll definitely be back to try the Ajiaco.
