My friend from out of the country and I stumbled on this place using Google maps to find some kind of dinery thing on Route 66. This place was exactly what we were looking for! I had a chocolate milkshake, chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes, brown gravy and green beans, as well as a slice of blueberry crisp pie. My only disappointment was the pie - which I got heated. I had a couple of bites and couldn't touch the rest of it. The crust seemed okay but the filling / seasoning on the blueberries was very far off. Maybe would be better cold? It was reccomended to me by the waitress also.

Two good friends and I went to route 66 diner tonight and were amazed and the wonderful service we recieved. Our waitress, Tammi, was wonderful and attentive. Friendly and fast. I am happy to see happy employees who can have small piercings and express their own individuality while being professional. Good job guys keep on rockin'.

I decided to be spontaneous and decided to stop in for some New Mexican-fun food at the Route 66 Diner two weeks ago. I am a server at Chili's, where we get rated by surveys after each visit. We pretty much have it down. Route 66 Diner however? Not so much. When I walked in, I didn't know whether to sit myself or not, there was no, "wait to be seated sign" and no one was standing up front. Then, I was finally sat by a blonde haired girl with glasses that skipped down the place (really annoying, how old do you think I am?) Then, she talked to me as if I was a kid. I was informed that the light that said, "don't walk" was the sign. Yeah, like anyone is going to understand that. Common. I was then sat by the kitchen (big mistake). Being a server, I analyze everything when it comes to restaurant service. Our server was very unprofessional. On top of that, she had a piercing in the middle of her lips. She giggled as if she was flirting with us. Sitting by the kitchen, I could overhear conversations, and not convo's costumers should hear. TOO inappropriate for work (I wont even mention them). I ordered a milkshake which was really good, I really liked the people that made milkshakes, they were better then the servers for sure. However, the one with brown hair and glasses that had some Mexican nickname was overly bossy and laughed non-stop. And the nicknames, really? What is this place, a strip club? Finally, we got our food. Again, sitting by the kitchen, I overheard our server yelling at someone that she would take the food, not the other person and ran over there. I got the pile-up and it was very good. The cooks really have it down. We got our ticket and I had to pay upfront. The bossy girl cashed me out, and asked how everything was. I told her my thoughts and she didn't know what to say. Why ask then? The servers pre-busing skills should be improved, they should check up on tables more frequently instead of talking with each other, and the managers should really help when in comes to the restaurant, they were no were to be seen. As for the whole diner, it needs to be more professional. I gave our server a 5% tip, and I overheard her getting upset. Therefore, I wrote this review. Focus less on the Pez and more on improvements.

This place does phenomenal shakes; a double essentially gets you two of them, so beware. My husband almost always orders a vanilla, and this's place sold him years ago. I ordered the Elvis ;peanut butter and banana) which carries both flavors really well. Now, for the food - I had the green chile stew, and the pepper in that bowl more than made up for the previous two days of food claiming to have heat but lying to me. The bowl came with a tortilla and I needed every bite. I love hot, but some will find it too hot. My husband had the liver and onions with mashed potatoes and gravy. Smelled delicious, though he inhaled it without me getting a bite. The servers here are always pleasant, knowledgable about the restaurant offerings. BTW, they usually do good pie and crisp, though I was too full for it this trip.

When in Albuquerque you have to stop by this retro diner and check out the grub. I had the Route 66 chicken fried steak with a side of wets (for those of you who don't know that's fries and brown gravy). Ok the green beans were from a can but damn the steak was awesome and the wets were fabulous! Beatles and Beach Boys were playing from, yes, a real jukebox. And all the old novelties on the wall brought you back in time. Oh and the Route 66 Pink Cadillac shake is so thick you have to give it at least 15 minutes to start melting so you can get it through the straw. The service is great too - friendly and fast. Don't miss out on this great place - you won't go wrong.

Saw a little card from my hotel that said this diner had the best milkshakes in Albuquerque and I think it was right! I ordered a s'mores milkshake and it was delicious. The atmosphere/decor was cool too and it's a shame the food was only okay or else I would have given them another star!

I had forgotten to write a review, but I came in for dinner during winter break. I had been away from NM for almost a year, and was desperately craving a green chile cheeseburger. I walked in, and the delicious smells of food reminded me of how much I love home (NM). Anyways, I ordered a green chile cheeseburger with a root beer float (because, I mean, why not??). The root bear float came first, and oh my, it was sooooo delicious! The ice cream made the root beer into this deliciously creamy drink that was impossible to stop drinking. Soon after, my burger came. I almost lost it at how amazingly tasty this burger was. It was either the fact that I hadn't had a chile cheeseburger in about a year, or this was just an extraordinarily amazing burger, but this has definitely been one of my favorite green chile burgers ever! I almost finished all of the burger (which is huge), but I had already finished all the root beer float & felt a little guilty. Haha Needless to say, I most definitely recommend this place! It is a true little New Mexican gem that takes you back to the 60's and that offers amazing food (speaking on behalf of burgers and root beer float) at great prices. BEST diner food ever. :)

Wow, who would have believed it, we are here at the famous Albuquerque, NM 66 Diner having a shake and a Blue Plate special! It was great chicken pot pie in this most famous place. Great service and a fun atmosphere whit great food at a very reasonable price. Well worth the history lesson.

The food was ok. I tried a shake and my boyfriend got a chocolate shake. They were fine but definitely not "the best shake in Albuquerque". The dining area was very open yet the hostess decided to seat us right at the kitchen. Where we can see the cook with a full beard and septum piercing. He should have had a beard-net on and facial piercings are a ServSafe no-no. At least he had a sweaty personal hat on, not a washable cook hat or hairnet or head scarf. My waitress, I don't remember her name because it was a dumb "lil hot pie" name, she had a dirty dress on, crust all over her chest area. A wet rag could have handled it if it was today's crust. And it seemed like she was uber fake and even tried to slip into a souther accent. But she had a creepy stare to her. I got a green chili cheese burger and my boyfriend opted to substitute his fries for Onion Rings at a charge of $0.89. He got gipped. He got way less onion rings than I received of French fries. They didn't screw up the order he asked for no mayo, and I asked for no onion. As we paid he said the food wasn't worth the money and the cashier didn't respond.

One of these days, while I'm in Albuque, I will be full enough, so that I don't have to order a sandwich, cause I really want some apple pie and ice cream from this place. the pie pieces are huge, and look so mouth watering. I ordered the patty melt, and it was fresh, and the burger was handmade, and it tasted good. Nothing in particular stood out. The French fries were good, as well. Now, if I had ordered the apple pie and ice cream, I would've given this more stars. I did have the dreamsicle shake, and it was very good. it was delicious. It had a hint of orange to it, and whipped cream on top.I ordered the small size, and couldn't eat all of it. The decor is like most "fifties" diners. this one is teal and white, but there's 2 rows of Pez lining the ceiling. Also, there's a huge map of Route 66 on the wall. It was at this moment, i realized I've traveled all of it, but towards Flagstaff, and Cali. I'm sure the man sitting 2 bar stools away form me, wondered why I was staring at him...it certainly wasn't to bat my long eyelashes. I was looking at the map. There's a large poster of Marily Monroe in different poses, and a few Route 66 signs New Mexico around the restaurant. The music plays songs from both the 50's and 60's. The male server sings to the songs. The females wear the cutest most perkiest dresses I've seen in a while. I actually drove to this diner think it was the one I had visited previously, but didn't realize it was different until my Garmin gave me these directions. Good one, there's several diners on Central, and all of them are part of Route 66.

I always enjoy eating at 66. They have really tasty food and quick service The malts are amazing although I can usually only get a half since they are so big! I wish their food was a little more hot. I usually get the same thing, the hot dog and I get them to add Cheddar. It's is never melted and the dog is usually just luke warm. I did notice the fries were nice and hot the last time I was there though. I would recommend this restaurant if you want some fun and old style blue plate specials. It is very good.

Things I liked about the 66 Diner: The atmosphere and decor, our waiter who was friendly, the rockin' music, the ice cold sodas with crushed iced that made them feel fancy and special, and the grilled cheese with buttery Texas toast. That about ends my likes of this joint. I had grilled cheese (which was great). The fries were average at best, and overall, it was super overpriced for the diner fare. My date had a chicken salad that was really poor. I wish I tried the shakes or malts because everyone around me that had them looked amazing. I think I'd go back to try those, listen to the music, and have a good convo but not for a meal.

The Route 66 Diner has become more of a tourist stop in our city, but there are a several reasons I keep coming back: 1. Milkshakes! After a bad day I often find myself tucked into one of their cute little booths ordering a grasshopper milkshake with extra whipped cream(because I'm on a diet, so you know how that goes). You can get milkshakes from many places, but these are different. You have a million choices, flavors, and you get a classy glass to drink it out of. Hands down they are the best in town. 2. Fried Okra. I am a huge fried food nut. I crave fried okra 7 days of the week. I could eat it cold, hot, off the floor, whatever, if its fried okra I will certainly eat it. The way they batter and fry up their okra leaves it crispy, crunchy, and with a nice texture and taste. Other fried okras I've had in the city are pretty good, but the batter seems to be too cakey and it takes away from the texture and taste of the okra I want. I usually order a basket of fried okra and eat the left overs cold, because cold fried okra from here is delicious. Overall I would recommend to try this place for the atmosphere, but don't be too disappointed if your food is just standard diner food. It's not much to write home to. I would recommend the half pile up, fried okra, and a grasshopper milk shake, because it's good.

Great Shakes..fast service, GREAT staff. They say the pies and cobblers are homemade, and they ain't kidding, we loved it. My wife the veggie, had some good choices, the fried okra, fresh and not greasy, would be rock star, if they added a little seasoning to the breading mix. Go there, have fun. I am posting some pics. By the way I am not from New Mexico, we were looking for a snack about 8:30 PM, and the place looked busy but not to crowded, the decor and the nice parking lot, just sort of lured us in.

I go for the milkshakes and the milkshakes alone. All of the other food is just standard diner fare, in my opinion. The grasshopper shake is amazing--mint chocolatey goodness. Mint chocolate chip ice cream with oreos?! Come on! How can you go wrong with that? I also tried the Pink Cadillac shake which is strawberry ice cream with oreos...yum. The chile cheese fries and the chili cheese fries are both good there also. Perfect stop on a hot day or a day when you have weird cravings for milkshakes and chili cheese fries!

It is not everyday I get to experience a retro, old-fashioned diner! I enjoyed my food. It was the kind of food I would expect in a diner. I ordered the hamburger steak over toast with fried okra and mashed potatoes-- delicious! Their patty was definitely hand-made and it was thick. It was my first time eating fried okra. Loved it with ranch! Their banana split was amazing!

The retro decor and the name of this place is what attracted my boyfriend and I to stop by and eat here. I must say that I wasn't that impressed with the food. We ordered a green chili burger and also Mama's special of the day which was the green chili enchiladas. Everything was average. There was nothing special about any of it. The only things that I must complement them on is the service, decor, and the dessert. We ordered a slice of apple pie a la mode and it was actually very delicious. Overall, I wouldn't come back unless it was just for the dessert.

Better get the milkshake...the double is a huge choice. Food quality good, love the 50's atmosphere, and, the original pic of the gas station it once was.

Solid 3 stars for me. Service was friendly, as Jim W says -- definitely 66 kitcshy. They clearly play that up alot, as to be expected Party of 3 ordered cheeseburger, chili burger, and some fried zucchini. I had a red cream soda, which was pretty good -- of course, sweet. And only one in the party (not me) thought they had room to try a shake. Special flavor for the month is grasshopper. My friend said it was excellent. Speaking of the shakes, that may be their specialty here. They have probaly a dozen to 20 different shake combinations. 3 stars.... but kinda nostalgic, if you're visiting ABQ. (kinda....)

Solid diner food, solid diner kitsch. I had the green chili cheeseburger with fries and added a side of brown gravy. Once the weather turns cool I like a little gravy on my fries once in awhile. Maybe because fries are not bad enough for you by themselves. I also had a chocolate milk shake. They asked if I wanted it with chocolate ice cream or vanilla. Um, it's a chocolate shake, right? Apparently if you get it with chocolate ice cream they still bombard the concoction with chocolate syrup so prepare to be overloaded with chocolate and sugar. I didn't finish it because I knew it would finish me if I did. My total was about $15 pre-tip.

Atmosphere is the coolest! You could spend hours just looking at all the pop culture that fills this place. The burgers are phenomenal! Some of the best I've ever eaten. But the absolute best was the milkshake! Wow!!! We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Albuquerque!

O.k., I know my last review I gave this place five stars but that was based on the hot fudge sundae I had a few days earlier. This review is based on my lunch consisting of philly cheesesteak, potatoe salad, and apple crisp. I went there for lunch before heading back to Cali. I chose the philly cheeseteak w/ a side of potatoe salad. First off, the potatoe salad was not homemade. They don't say it is but they could try to improve the "out of the box" taste it had. It must have been scooped right out of some big carton or tub it came in...it was F'n awful/gross. I couldn't even eat more than a few bites. The cheesesteak was nothing special, I've had better at airports. It looked like they sauteed up some type of ground beef and put slices of american cheese on it...cheese wasn't really melted too good. Now, here is why I can only give one star.... because Yelp made me. I wanted to give ZERO stars! The apple crisp was horrible, the worst I've ever had. I've been in the military and eaten at many, many chow halls that had WAYYYY better apple crisp. It was bland, pungent, not crispy, and just plain horrible....the worst ever!!!

This review is based on milkshakes only, which I ordered to go. The service was nice and the milkshakes were really good. I particularly enjoyed the Black Forest shake -- chocolate with a hint of cherry! And of course the decor was extremely cute!

Arrived in Albuquerque visited a few spots when hunger hits. Route 66 diner off we go. Dearest Donna was our waitress. What a doll, she was patient, helpful and fun to be around. I ordered the fender bender. Potatoes cooked to a perfection crispy on the outside but soft and mushy on the inside. Sweet bacon cooked with a crunch that no sauce can soften the crisp. Cheese, green chili and egg over easy with a flour tortilla. I couldn't resist but to break the yolk. The golden sauce oozing over the salty, creamy starchy and spicy dish married the whole meal. I was impressed with the attention our server gave us. Our drinks never dried out and the atmosphere felt like I was Marty McFly. The whole staff works hard to make your experience enjoyable. Also one last note I have two boys 9 and 10 one is very picky. (Hint 9 year old ) Lets call him Secondo, he loved the crispy chicken sandwich. BINGO!!!!! for a picky kid and for him to like something new was a big plus in my book! You will not be disappointed even for that picky eater. In closing, stable the horses and enjoy this timeless masterpiece on old Route 66! Tutti a mangiare!!

Good burger, good corn bread, and good red cream soda.... The chicken and dumplings weren't very good at all. The fried okra was ok...

Classic diner food. Their chile isn't impressive at all, but they got the whole "all American" thing down. I tend to go here for the desserts (the brownie sundae is to die for & my favorite shake is a double chocolate banana shake), although the burgers are pretty bomb as well. Their portions are ginormous so make sure you bring your appetite!

Walked out of this tourist trap before they could poison me with their unauthentic food. Some places are just a scam designed to take your cash and this is another example. Famous for their burgers right? Well the waitress who was like 16 years old admits their burgers are frozen patties, not fresh ground beef. Secondly, I tried to order a albuquerque turkey, but was informed (after our dummy waitress had to go ask the chef) that the turkey they use is processed and comes from Hormel. Yum, just like Mom used to make. I wonder if the chef threw that turkey into his turkey rice soup - amazing. I did want to try a shake and split a chocolate covered banana shake at $4.99. It was decent, but if this is ABQ's best shakes, then ABQ we have a problem. marketing and advertising can fool alot of folks, but cat is not getting clowned by this place. You can do alot better. Steer clear.

I love diners, but this one fell far short of what I've come to expect from diner food. Okay, the double chocolate milkshake was very good- but the food was mediocre. the burger was a thin, preformed-frozen-patty type, which I could have gotten a lot cheaper at McD. The waiter seemed scattered and mumbled, no charm whatsoever. Disappointing.

We were on our way home from vacation and had a long day driving when I checked my yelp and found this place. What a gem. The wait staff is great as well as entertaining. I felt like I was back in the 50's. The food was fantastic and the prices were reasonable. I had the Sunday night special, macaroni and cheese, my favorite. It was the best mac n cheese updated for an adult with garlic toast. Of course I had to have a chocolate shake too. My husband had his favorite liver and onions. It was a great refreshing break from the road. I would recommend it to everyone. Kid friendly.

A friend of mine travels all over the US as part of his job and also as a hobby. When I told him I go to Albuquerque every month or so, he insisted I stop at the 66 Diner. Usually, I arrive in town around 9 PM. And for some reason, most places are closed by 10 - What's up with that? So, anyway I decide to try out the 66 diner. Congratulations to them, they are open to 11 PM. Thank you! The food was ok. There is nothing special about their food, but they make a great malt. Good show! There is plenty of 1950's style nostalgia pieces. It's not really my thing, but it's mildly entertaining. Will I be back? The next time I am in ABQ and looking for a bite to eat late at night, sure, I'll be back.

Not a bad place. The decor is diner kitsch, the soda fountain/ice cream/desserts are excellent, the burgers are very good, and the rest of the fare can range from excellent to mediocre. I have never experienced bad service. A good place for groups especially if they include children.

Fun Atmosphere! My Southwest Burger was super delicious!! Awesome Vanilla Malt!

Unfavorable opinion of this restaurant. Menu prices have raised-my burger was ten bucks. The bun was cold and pulled right out of the bag-not toasted/warmed, and the green chile was tasteless with no heat. Also, they left their gallons of milk sitting out on the counter for the whole hour that we were there, and BTW, it was NOT Creamland milk as they claim to use in their commercials.

I guess the high fat menu is a hard sell for me. Breakfast merits a 3.5 but dinner is another issue. I ate there tonight actually... The Sunday special is the only real blue plate special.. all the other days of the week are pre-planned and printed in their menu. Having said that, they had Chicken Tetrazzini left over from last night. I guess I should have ordered a burger.. It was made with an oily cream sauce and had frozen veggies in it. Yuck. OK.. I heard you already .. I'll order the burger next time.. or at least get there early enough for breakfast. PS I was tempted to try the cherry pie. It looked great in the cooler but arrived at the table after the microwave partially vaporized random fork fulls and left the adjacent parts a little too cold. Then the crust ended up getting soggy from the 30 second electrocution. But the yellow ice cream? Why on earth would you make a fresh pie and put fake vanilla ice cream on the same plate. I know I know.. I won't do it again I promise.

It was a great place to grab diner food. The ambiance was classic. I loved the turquoise leather seats. The waiters and waitresses were dressed in matching turquoise dresses. The place was full of classic automobile parts. We tried their chilli, 1/2 pile up and a full pile up. All of them were really good. The staff was friendly.

We visited Abq and Santa Fe for 4 days last month and wanted a quick bite to eat as we were heading back to the airport to fly back to California. Cruising down Central, just before we hit the 25 freeway, we saw this 66 Diner and it looked inviting enough. Yeah, it may have a kind of manufactured touristy look to it, but the prices were way local cheap and that's not touristy. The hamburger and fries were decent and the BLT was stacked high with bacon and tasty potato salad on the side and was very good for only $5.50. Most places you can add a buck or two to that. You get a milkshake that can feed two with the tin on the side for only $3.99. (I disagree on another review here that the place is pricey. I'm from California so everything seems cheaper in NM I guess, but Arby's in Santa Fe was higher than in CA.). The place was crowded and service was a tad slow. Waitresses had cute little uniforms and ours was just a sweetheart who aimed to please, always checking in on things when we finally got our meal. It was a pleasnt last meal in NM. We helped them out and bought a nice bright 66 Diner T-Shirt for $10. Mel's Diner back in San Francisco wouldn't be that cheap.

This place looks too clean and boring to have anything amazing to eat. Wrong, not only are the dishes super flavorful they are huge. I was super pleased to see they had hand breaded Chicken Fried Steak which I ordered. I was not disappointed. Amazing flavor and was huge. Not paper thin huge either. If you have kids bring them here just for the desert items. I swear you could feed 4-6 people from some of these things. The food is decently priced also.

This place is actually a new building and not the original 66 Diner. It burned a few years ago and was closed for awhile. But it was so popular and we all missed it so much that they got their act together and re-built. Thanks guys! It would have been a big empty space in my eating agenda, if you hadn't. I give this place a FIVE. Five for atmosphere, five for food & five for service . . . . hey that makes them a 15! I love going here! It is very casual, typical diner food that takes you back to the days when you asked for a cherry coke you got a real cherry coke. Not something out of a can with a metallic taste. Great burgers & shakes & sandwiches. If you are going to order a piece of the yummy pies, be sure you save room. They are decent size pieces of pie, not some little skinny sliver. Warm with ice cream . . mmmm . . Green chili stew / soup is Hot, but oh so tasty. Actually, I've never had anything but "5" food here. Worth a trip when you are really hungry. Or when you just need an afternoon pick-me-up. My favorite thing is their itty-bitty ice cream sundae. It used to be served in a shot glass (until too many were stolen). Now it comes in a shot glass size plastic dish. My recommendation is that they put their logo on real shot glasses and buy them by the gross, bump the price up a few cents and let the customers take them home. Great advertising! This sundae has all the ingredients of a real hot fudge sundae - vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream, nuts & a cherry - all in a tiny serving . . . all for less than a couple of bucks. . . so if you've filled up on a green chili cheeseburger and fries, you will still have room for this itty-bitty dessert. Can you please stop by and take me along . . . I'm getting hungry.

Trying to look like the set from "Happy Days" this appears to be living off it's decor. The food was OK but nothing to write home to mother. I had a Patty Melt and the onions were burnt. My son's burger was good and the fries OK. Service was a little slow, this could be due to our table in the rear of the restaurant.

Nice Atmosphere and that's about it. This place has been here quite a while and I had never eaten here. Needless to say I was expecting quite a treat. I ordered a green chile cheese burger with a chocolate malt. They DEFINITELY need to drop the "Famous" from the title of their green chile cheese burger. How old was that untoasted bun that fell apart in my hand as I tried to eat that cold hamburger? They may serve good food here, but the "famous" green chile cheese burger is definitely not among the good. The malt was OK--Johnny Rocket's is way better and so are the burgers. Worth eating here once for the experience, but that's it.

We ate dessert there in 11/07 and were very pleased. Our apple crumb pie was delicious and our server warmed it up for us. All three wait persons (one female & two males) appeared to be in their late teens and they were exceptionally friendly & pleasant. We chatted with the owner afterwards and he was a *super-nice* guy.

One of my eat out habit spots. Plenty of variety and pretty much anything you order will be delicious. For breakfast try the Pile-Up. Another great item is the Chicken Rancho. And their 66 Fries (french fries smothered in nacho cheese and green chile). The bad: It's noisy. Terrible acoustics. Avoid if you want conversation. Parking is a bitch during peak hours.

I've eaten here several times, I mainly go for the variety of food they have, not for the quality. It is mediocre and I can make all this stuff at home but therein lies my laziness. Most, if not all, the servers are college kids and the service isn't really that great. I've had a couple of times where I had to get up and ask for refills, or waited in the crowded foyer (while being sandwiched by two backpacks) for ten minutes to be seated(or noticed at all) and when I finally took it into my own hands I was scolded at when I sat myself. I'll probably go there again, with friends, only because we need variety, they have everything from meatloaf and potato salad to green chile queso fries! I would not brag about this place, it has that fake tourist feel to it and the employees seem like they have something more important to do than to refill your drinks.

We stopped while passing through, mainly because of the decor. It's very cute and clean. Our waiter was very pleasant and our food was good. I had an open faced burger with green chile sauce and cheese. The sauce was great, you could tell it was homemade. The kids enjoyed their Frito pies and cream soda's as well. Overall it was pleasant and we'll stop for a refuel there next time we are passing through.

We've been here 4 or 5 times.....I'll average it to 3 stars. I like their fried zucchini. My husband thinks the burgers are good. I've had the chicken fried steak dinner once and didn't like it very much. I really enjoyed the turkey sandwich w/bacon and guacamole....soooo good! Our most recent visit, I had the taco special which was served with beans and fried potatoes. The tacos were GREAT....beans, not so much. The potatoes could've used seasoning....any seasoning would've helped. Also on our latest visit, we had apple cobbler for dessert.......it was so flippin good! They have a large collection of PEZ dispensers which are fun to look at. The servers are usually good, but I think the girls' uniforms are sloppy looking.

I paid a visit here a couple of years ago after seeing it on either the Food Network or Travel Channel for their "homemade" pies. I ordered the blueberry pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The ice cream was good, the pie was not; it was frozen, out of the box , microwaved pie. This was confirmed when I asked my waitress. Sorry 66 Diner, maybe things have changed since my last visit.

We went here on our trip to NM and the food was ok but desserts were excellent we'll worth the stop ,but we picked a bad night because we had horrible service. So the meal wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been but the nostalgia was great.

Cute, kitschy diner where the girls wear poodle skirts and you walk over a hopscotch board to get to your table. I was so glad we came here on our last night in town. There is something nostalgic about eating on the famous Route 66. I had to have a chocolate milkshake as the experience warranted it. I loved it and ate/drank every last drop. I had the meatloaf sandwich and the hubs tried the cheeseburger. Our waiter was a forgetful college aged kid, but the food was good and the whole experience was fun.

I thought the route 66 diner was awkwardly, painfully touristy; that's saying a lot- given that I actually am an out of state tourist! It's a little weird to be paying high prices for mostly-standard greasy diner food, but the highway and generic 50s memorabilia cluttering every available surface make it clear that you're paying for the Experience. Service is cheerful but the food is incredibly slow and often arrives cold, and you're supposed to buy souvenirs. 66 Diner does have redeeming features. The malts are good, and the green chilies on hamburgers, in soups and stews, even grilled cheese sandwiches are definitely not something I can get at my local Denny's. (Thought for all I know you actually could get them in an Albuquerque Denny's.) Unfortunately, the 66 staff go on some sort of epic quests to find and cook with only the mildest green chilies in the universe, and a great deal of imagination is required to taste them in your food at all. You should go to 66 diner once. Get a malt and something with green chilies in it. After that, go to Frontier. The food is just as greasy, the service is nonexistant, and the decor might actually be worse, if you can believe that- but Frontier's food is like licking the face of God.

Me: "I've never been here before, so tell me whats good to eat??" Bobbysocks, Blonde Pigtailed, Short Sky Blue Skirt outfit (with black underwear..ooops I didn't see that) Waitress: "Everything is good here" Me: (Well, I'm not that hungry to eat everything I muttered under my breath). "So if you could only eat one meal here, what would you pick?" BSBPTSSBSO(WBUWOIDST) Waitress: "Well when I was small and came here alot, I used to order THAT alot..." Me: Wow....she was so impressed with this place as a kid, she ended up working here.....I thought about that for a moment before I realized how small this town really is. Then following her wrist, then hand, then finger, then fingernail to a spot on the menu.... Chicken Rancho. "Good. I'll have that with fried okra and mixed vegetables and a Route 66 Beer to go please." I added the root beer at the last moment as I spotted a tasting award plaque for the root beer. When I got back to the hotel, I dove into the Chicken Rancho. And this is how it went..... 1. Chicken Rancho. This was clearly the best part of the meal. It was a flat piece of chicken filet breaded then deep fried and smothered with green chili sauce and orange cheese. The chicken was done just perfectly.....very moist but the breading was crispy 2. Mixed veggies: Like most diners, they were way over done. Any more cooking and they would have been too soft for infants 3. Fried okra: Corn meal breadding and done well but not spectacular. 4. Route Beer. This tasted watery and lacking in carbonation to give it that bite. Flavors were not intense and just tasted sweet. After I finished my meal, I was still thinking about the incredible story it told when she uttered the words "I came here as a small kid..." while wearing the 50's motif diner uniform. I realized we were in the middle of nowhere being in Albuquerque. Then suddenly the image of The Truman Show came to mind.......

66 Diner aims to preserve the spirit of the 50s roadside diner. I'm not sure if it really succeeds. The atmosphere is great, although it's a little touristy. There are James Dean and Marilyn Monroe memorabilia, a jukebox, and cute girls in waitress uniforms. However, it all kind of feels like it's just there for show. The food isn't bad, but it's not great, either. The milkshakes are pretty good, though. My major beef with 66 is their prices. 66 Diner is on the expensive side. There are many other places you can go nearby with better food and fewer tourists that have much better prices.

Nothing special. They have fried okra, which, if you're from California is something new. The malts are good. Meatloaf sandwich was mediocre.

Maybe I am a total dork but I loved it here! I went with a group of fellow students and we were excited for the shakes. I had the Philly Cheese Steak which was pretty greasy but, hey! I was on vacation so I really didn't care. If you're passing through Albuquerque be sure to stop!

The Pile Up is by far the best dish (I recommend the 1/2 pile up unless you want lots of left overs). 66 Diner has great atmosphere, superb service and really good burgers as well. Parking can be a little difficult during the dinner hour, but it's worth it.

Got take out the other night, bacon cheeseburgers (I was really tired and asked if they had a "basic" cheeseburger, and wound up with bacon. Nice surprise). Anyway, the burgers were delicious after a hard day of moving, but they were obviously just pre-prepared patties. If it were a little cheaper, it would be a better option.

Went here last week for a dine to donate. The theme is nice, they have green chile, it's by campus, and majority of staff seems super nice. However, our waiter seemed like he was having a bad day and the large groups of people coming in for the dine to donate didn't seem to please. He forgot one of our burgers, and implied we didn't order it and asked very odd questions to us about where it was. Maybe he was suspicious? Well we wait another 20 minutes for it but in the end the food was decent, not the best and not the worst. It is really great they do dine to donates and support our community! Ps. order a milkshake.

After seeing all the pictures of ice cream, I had to stop by on my road trip! We ordered a Brownie Sunday and Black Forest shake to go. The girl at the front was sweet, seeing the interior made me wish we ate there! The brownie was fudgey goodness My shake- chocolate ice cream with cherries. Sounds so simple but it's the best! If I'm ever in Albuquerque again, I'll be back for another

It had been over 5 years since I had been back at this Happy retro Diner and I am so glad to have stopped in on a day when I was feeling like going on a big binge of sweet delight! Boy did I stop in and the right place and at the right time, as this is establishment has the most pleasant staff & truly seems that they absolutely love there job! The decor is so awesome with all the old memorabilia it really takes you back when the times were so great, happy people, happy ambiance make for "Happy Days" everything is truly special about this 66 diner! We only ordered a Banana Split with brownie's between 3 of us as they said this was really large, and NO JOKE~~HOLY MOLY this was one HUGE Banana Split with all the bells and whistles and than some!! I cannot wait to dine in and treat myself to some lunch/dinner options. I cannot wait for my happy return!

I ate at 66 Diner with my family in July 2015, and we all loved this restaurant. The decor and atmosphere is from the fun days of Route 66 travel. The waitresses all dress like car hop waitresses. The staff were all super friendly and made the dining experience very fun. The service was excellent. The food quality was very good. Portion size was generous. Price was very reasonable. Menu items included; fries, burritos, burgers, fried chicken, salads, soups, sandwiches, milk shakes, pies, sundaes and banana splits. Since we were celebrating, we ordered the banana split for group of five. It was giant with at least 10 scoops of ice cream, whip cream, nuts, etc... It was so big, the five of us could not finish it. This is a must if you are celebrating anything. I would eat here again next time I'm in the area. It was a lot of fun.

Really nice authentic-diner food in an amazingly fun atmosphere. When I managed to make it here on my Route 66 pilgrimage, there was a local photography club here taking period-pictures with pinups! Food is great, and Lexi my waitress was friendly and attentive as can be asked for. I would definitely recommend this to anyone in the area!

My grandpa suggested that we grab a bite at the 66 Diner for lunch. I immediately was torn between a strong desire to join him and a less strong desire to run home to eat where I might be able to exercise some self control (which I knew would not be possible at 66 Diner). The atmosphere is a 50s diner, bright lights and 50s style uniforms. Oldies were playing on the juke box. The only reason I don't give this place 5 stars is because it seems dated in a bad way. I think they could stand to put in new flooring, new blinds. I don't think that the look needs to change but the floor is so old it looks kind of dirty, same with the blinds. I'm not suggesting that it is unclean, but you know when you have some old thing that looks dirty even after it's just been washed? Yeah, like that. Otherwise it's a clean and fun atmosphere. You CANNOT visit this place and not get a milkshake. It's impossible. My grandpa and I shared the banana cream pie shake, which was excellent. Our only regret was forgetting to ask for malt. The milk shakes are huge, served with the extra on the side in a tin. If you split one, it fills two full glasses. For lunch I contemplated ordering something healthy, although that would have been challenging to find on this menu. It's full of old fashioned favorites like chicken fried steak, burgers, fries, and a few New Mexican favorites. I ended up getting the Albuquerque Turkey which was delicious. My diet went out the window and I upgraded to the Kicks 66 Fries which are smothered in queso and chopped green chile. I had to eat them with a fork. I thought I might be able to stop at half, but I ate them all because they were sooo good.

Awesome diner food with a New Mexican twist! This place has an awesome atmosphere. The bar counter is cute, and the Disney Pez above it are adorable. Plus, they have free Pez candy by the cash register! It isn't on Nob Hill (it would fit in better there), but it is near UNM. It still feels very Route 66-ey though. The service is okay. Our waitress was not that friendly, but got the job done. Since we were sitting at the counter, we got to talk to all of the other servers and they were super nice. The 50s style garb that the servers wore added to the feel of the diner. In my opinion, food was expensive for diner food. The burgers weren't bad at $10, but I thought $15 for chicken fried steak and $13 for chicken fried chicken were excessive. The blue plate specials were a good deal though, and you don't need a huge meal when you order a milkshake. I love how the food has a New Mexican twist. I ordered the green chile burger. It was a basic burger with green chile on it. It wasn't the spiciest, but sure had a kick. The burger was cooked well and not dry or crumbly. It also wasn't too thick, which I dislike. The fries were average. I was hoping for either a Five Guys or Steak 'n Shake kinda thing. Surprisingly, the posole was the best we had in Albuquerque. The blue plate special for Tuesday (chicken pot pie) was good. Nothing AMAZING, but for less than $10, it was great. The main attraction here are the milkshakes. They are handmade by the waitstaff. Almost everyone in our party ordered the half size shake, while two of us split the full size. The half size was huge (for being half sized)! It was the size of a shake glass. The full size is two full glasses! They pour half of the shake in the glass and the other half is given to you in the metal cup they used to blend it. If we're ever back in NM, we might just come here for the shakes and the blue plate specials.

Lovely place! All the decoration on the wall and along the ceiling are very cute. And they have bars for you and feels good to sit there. As for the food, it's definitely good. And saw the icecream, that must be good. It looks so pretty and yum!

Went the diner after a Big Brother Big Sister event. The server would not allow the kids to share a milkshake. After that I didn't have a reason to consider the food and environment.

Great service. Old route 66 feel. I had the chicken fried steak but go with the cream gravy not the brown so much better the potato salad is like homemade and believe it or not they have strawberry rhubarb milkshakes delicious.

Very cute establishment on Route 66 with a service team that wears befitting garb for the diner's throwback style. Average diner food with a great attitude! Will be back again for sure :-)

In my opinion, this place has the BEST milkshakes in ABQ! For a cheap price and way more than I could finish in one sitting. The food is decent, I ordered the grilled h and cheese sandwich (because I thought it might be too childish to order the grilled cheese) and it was decently good. My friend ordered the French dip and she was also pleased with it. Neither of us could finish our meals or shakes, so we were happy and full. Cool perk- instead of mints or candy, you get a pack of PEZ. Yeah. You heard me right, PEZ. I feel like such a happy kid :-)

FOOD I love the milkshakes here (mint chocolate chip is my favorite) -- they come in generous portions and are made really well. I am also a big fan of the blue plate specials, especially the Chicken & Dumplings on Wednesdays. Their burgers and fries are just OK in my opinion, but my husband really likes their green chile cheeseburger. They have daily specials and PIE specials, which are also good. AMBIENCE The atmosphere at 66 Diner is straight retro-50s, which is also fun. Best to go at off-peak hours unless you want to battle the crowds, though. RUGRATS? 66 Diner is child-friendly with a decent kids' menu and plenty of high chairs with buckles that work. They also provide crayons and coloring pages for entertainment.

Burgers and fries are ehhhhh but what keeps me coming back are the desserts. Delicious milkshakes and even better sundaes! This is definitely the place to come for a yummy treat!

So this is a cute place. Yes, it's gimmicky. Yes, it's sort of a tourist trap. But I thought the prices were reasonable, the place well maintained, and the food pretty good. I definitely recommend stopping by to "get your kicks" while on Rt. 66. Pink Cadillac Deluxe Shake (strawberry ice cream + milk + Oreos all blended together, topped with whipped cream) - Tasted very delicious and super refreshing. Too thick to be able to drink through a straw when brought to the table, so use the spoon while you wait for it to melt a bit. There was only one hard-working waitress who was in charge of making all the shakes and sundaes. Girl didn't stop for a break the whole time we were there! Hamburger Platter, which is an Angus chuck burger, with mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and onion, served with a side of Cole slaw - Nice portion of meat patty. Solid and tasty basic burger. Pile Up, which are pan-fried potatoes, chopped bacon, chopped green chile, two eggs over easy, and cheddar cheese, all topped with red chile sauce - Awesome comfort food. We got the 1/2 Pile Up, which was enough to share among a few people. Blue Plate Special of Chicken and Dumplings, served with a side of cornbread - The C&D was too soup-like, but did have a lot of diced chicken, carrots, celery, and mini-dumplings. Taste was quite good. I actually liked this more than I thought I would. Treat this as thick chicken soup with veggies and dumplings and it'll be okay. I like that the dish came with cornbread, but it was so dry, not stale, but dry. I ended up pouring some of the milkshake over it and it was pretty delicious then. Oreos fix everything! Take the bill to the register to pay. Then continue on your trip!

Stopped at 66 Diner after seeing that it was the inspiration for Flo's V8 Cafe in Cars Land, and was very happy that we decided to stop here. The diner had that Route 66 and retro feel that you would expect, while offering excellent service and a decent meal for a fair price.

When driving into ABQ we both had a craving for some good dinerfood. When we stumbled upon this we had to go inside, since we were on a route 66 roadtrip. I had the delicious cheesesteak, loved every bite of it and my wife had the chocolate chip cookie icecream which were three scoops of vanilla ice on two HUGE cookies! No need to say we were more than pleased with our food. Service was pretty good too!

Besides the cool interior and 50s style decorations, music and costumed wait staff, the food was delicious. Lots of neon and other Route 66 memorabilia inside, chrome metal table edges and chair legs, but what really impressed us was the freshness and tastiness of the food. I wasn't very hungry so ordered the soup and half sandwich. I got the New Mexico Green Chili Stew with a half a Meatloaf sandwich, both very flavorful and still more than I could eat. Even the lettuce was crisp and fresh. Just good food with friendly wait staff. We'll be back.

Must stop while visiting UM! Right on Route 66, this throwback diner starts off with a plethora of road signs outside the long stereotypical diner type building - 50's style! You walk in overloaded 50-60's throwback collectors items. From a corner devoted to Elvis to 100's PEZ dispensers! Look for the front end of a Chevy while you're there too! Have a malt and burgers! I wanted to try several other items off the menu but my belt was busting!! Wait staff was friendly, no pressure with all smiles!

I love coming here at lunchtime for a green chile cheeseburger, and I always walk away with a pie! The 66 Diner is a nice 50's retro diner with better than average food and great service - always with a smile! The pies are my favorite! I'm an apple pie guy, and 66 makes an amazing apple pie, for an incredibly inexpensive price! The cherry and pecan are great, too!

I haven't been to the diner in a while. It's a little far for us. But we wanted a nice Sunday brunch. Well we found it. Breakfast was great. I had French toast, my hubby and son had omelette sand daughter had biscuits and gravy. All was great! We finished it with a shake and a slice of buttermilk pie. Then of course had to pick up a whole rhubarb crisp pie to go. Can't wait for the next time we are looking for breakfast!! Oh and service was great!! Thanks to Kaylie.

Super fun place our waiter was very accommodating. I ordered soup (southwest corn chowder) and 1/2 a meat loaf sandwich. I really loved the taste of the chowder but because I'm a wimp I couldn't handle the heat! He brought be a salad without any hesitation! It's a old fashion diner theme. I'd love to come back her again.

I love anything and everything about The Mother Road. And Albuquerque is so rich in the history and memory of this famous road. Finding places connected to Route 66 is such fun. The 66 Diner honors those times from long ago and if this is a part of Americana you relish, you will love eating here. Fabulous interior with the walls filled with old signs and photographs. You will spend a bit of time just looking at it all. You'll be seated in old-style booths and served by friendly ladies wearing old-style diner dresses. They're famous for their shakes so I had to try a vanilla one. Delish. I also had the tuna melt and my partner had a veggie burger. We both felt the food was pretty good. And Ladies, where else can we use the loo and have a huge photo of Elvis staring at us?? It's a trip! On Route 66,

Loved the atmosphere and the milkshakes are indeed to die for. I asked them to make me a chocolate banana cream pie shake (banana cream is listed on the menu) but wanted a chocolate one. they were great about doing this and our waiter was attentive and very nice. Hubby and I decided on the cheeseburger with the hot stuff on the side. We wanted to split it with fries. The cook was kind enough to even cut it for us (though we hadn't asked) which was great of him to do. We both love a diner atmosphere and this one didn't disappoint. I would say we usually are disappointed in the food but in the case of the 66 diner we were not and wouldn't hesitate to return again. Loved the music too and the waitresses wear really cool uniforms. The Pez dispenser display is awesome and be sure to use the correct rest room if you are a "guy or a doll"

We stopped in to 66 Diner because it has been my wife's favorite for years. But the place seems to have dropped in service and standards. The floor was a mess like a food fight happened before we got there. It took over 30 minutes to get our food out. Just burgers and French fries, chicken strips and Frito pie. Our drink order was wrong and so was the dinner order. The shakes were still good and came out quick. But for a family of five $80.00 for okay fried food, poor service and a loud messy atmosphere is a little ridiculous!

I love this place because of this milkshake milkshakes are so large actually get full on them. They have huge brownies with lots of nuts on him so I make my own milkshake with nuts and brownies in it it's so delicious and order a hamburger with lots of vegetables and a large side of french fries and I am fool for a whole day and a half .Go and enjoy yourself at the 66 diner

The green chile burger was good. Spicy and the burger itself was good too but a bit on the thin side. The stuffing that comes with the turkey dinner was horrific. Half size milkshakes are a nice change of pace if you're planning on having one with your meal. Our waitress was kind enough to give us a full size one split into two glasses. Overall the place was really touristy feeling and the food was what I would expect from a below average diner back on the east coast.

Fun 1950s style diner. It's what you would expect from a diner, only with a few south west favorites peppered in the menu. The butter nut squash soup was great as were the cheese fries with green chilies. The meat load sandwich also good, as was the grilled cheese sandwich. They serve fun shakes that come in a half size if you want a little less. For the holidays they serve an eggnog shake. The decor is out of the 1950s with toys from that era and traffic signs.

If you go to Albuquerque without visiting 66 Diner, you've failed. FAILED!!! This is THE place. Have you ever had a milkshake so amazing that it makes you want to start a milkshake religion? No? That could only be because you've never had one from 66 Diner. Ever eat a green chile burger so delicious it made you want to abandon your family, quit your lame job and sell your possessions so that you could live a life of green chile burger eating bliss (till the money runs out and you have to sell your body on Central to perpetually get your next green chile burger fix. "He was such a good kid until he started doing those burgers.")? You haven't? Well then, you've gotta make it down to 66 Diner. "But, I like my family." SHUTUP!!! EAT THE BURGER!! The only thing your family has ever done for you is get in the way of your burger and milkshake dreams. Your dad never really supported anything you wanted to do and your mom just stood by and watched while every last ounce of hope was extinguished from your already sad existence. 66 Diner is there for you. Do what's right.

(4)Bart S.
(4)Ashley E.
(3)Ciara M.
(4)Valerie S.
(3)Gregory P.
Better get the milkshake...the double is a huge choice. Food quality good, love the 50's atmosphere, and, the original pic of the gas station it once was.
(4)Jessica A.
(kinda....)
(3)Jim W.
(3)Lori C.
Burgers were big and delicious, perfect diner fare. We stopped on our way though Albuquerque on a road trip and it really hit the spot. Friendly service, great fries and amazing rootbeer floats!
(4)Cory M.
One of the best restaurants in Albuquerque. Have a pile up and a chocolate shake. You won't regret it.
(5)Virginia D.
Classic diner decor and mostly sandwich menu with a few salads for variety. Old fashioned fun.
(5)Melissa M.
Atmosphere is the coolest! You could spend hours just looking at all the pop culture that fills this place. The burgers are phenomenal! Some of the best I've ever eaten. But the absolute best was the milkshake! Wow!!! We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Albuquerque!
(5)Marc W.
(1)Jennifer T.

(5)Topher H.
Good burger, good corn bread, and good red cream soda.... The chicken and dumplings weren't very good at all. The fried okra was ok...
(3)Rawk C.
(3)H C.
Good food & good service. I enjoy every time I visit this restaurant. The milkshakes are amazing. The decor is a cool 50's style!
(5)Desire J.
Nice 50's style atmosphere and jukebox tunes!

(1)Kathleen C.
(1)Gary H.
Food should be better, restaurant should be cleaner. Was impressed by their Pez collection.
(2)Melanie R.

(4)Charles K.
Not a bad place. The decor is diner kitsch, the soda fountain/ice cream/desserts are excellent, the burgers are very good, and the rest of the fare can range from excellent to mediocre. I have never experienced bad service. A good place for groups especially if they include children.
(3)Kiersten V.
Fun Atmosphere! My Southwest Burger was super delicious!! Awesome Vanilla Malt!
(5)J T.
(2)Michael R.
(2)Aashish J.

(4)Mitch G.
(4)Rachel C.
(5)Bob W.
(3)Kai C.
I love their meatloaf sandwich. My boyfriend loves their HUGE banana split. Overall awesome.
(4)Stu T.
this is a real fun type of diner that expresses the true spirit of route 66.The atmosphere and service really makes it fun and the food is pretty good.
(3)Kevin I.
(1)Susan L.
(5)Eleanor B.
Decent food and I'm a sucker for the decor cheesy as it may be. Excellent malt and buttermilk pie. Come here for the desert.
(4)Chupacabra X.
(4)Chrissy K.
(2)Amy S.
(4)Tracey J.
(3)RH S.
(2)Pam L.
We went here on our trip to NM and the food was ok but desserts were excellent we'll worth the stop ,but we picked a bad night because we had horrible service. So the meal wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been but the nostalgia was great.
(3)Christy O.
(4)Corvi Z.
(2)Clint U.
(3)Morgan M.
(3)Adam T.
Nothing special. They have fried okra, which, if you're from California is something new. The malts are good. Meatloaf sandwich was mediocre.
(2)Jackie V.

(3)John D.
Great service. Old route 66 feel. I had the chicken fried steak but go with the cream gravy not the brown so much better the potato salad is like homemade and believe it or not they have strawberry rhubarb milkshakes delicious.
(4)Kim I.
Very cute establishment on Route 66 with a service team that wears befitting garb for the diner's throwback style. Average diner food with a great attitude! Will be back again for sure :-)
(4)Chris S.
(4)Kate H.
The food is always good,a always fast and the staff is very friendly. There's not much else to say, except they have the best chocolate malts ever!
(5)K Z.

(4)Kimberley K.

The food was good; the dessert was better! Service was slow but our waitress was nice. Lots of 50's nostalgia in this place.

(4)Deb S.

(5)Lorenzo D.

(5)Angie W.

(4)Kayla B.
(3)David V.
