You know it's going to be a bad meal when your side salad has wilted lettuce and "old" looking veggies. BBQ brisket taste like deli roast beef smothered in liquid smoke and then warmed up. A real BBQ place should have a smoker going and the smell of REAL BBQ in the air. This place is a joke and way OVERPRICED!!! Wait staff act like they are being "bothered" when asking for something.

This is a high-end barbecue place, but they have a wide variety of dishes. The stand-out items for me are the homemade Italian-style sausages, the chicken-fried steak (huge, but you can also get a half-order), the green chile stew, and the Cajun chicken salad. They also have interesting appetizers, such as their homemade potato chips with a sour cream green chile dip and their green chile cheese fries.

Several reviews say "pricey", we didn't think it was pricey at all, just about average as far as price goes. I wouldn't consider Sunset Run a "cafe", or a "Diner", it is a restaurant in a Ranch/Motorcycle/Bar-B-Q "Restaurant style. (A 'Cafe' serves sandwiches, soup, coffee... a "Diner" serves biscuits and gravy, grilled cheese sandwiches, and mostly fried foods). Don't know if it depends on the cook, but a few times we stopped here the food was.....o.k... and a few other times it was really quite good. The pork Bar-B-Q sandwich was quite good, as well as the macaroni and cheese and beans. The Bar-B-Q sauce is really good and spicy. One of the comments on another review said that there were flies because there are stock animals on the property. This IS the Southwest, we are not afraid of open space and livestock. The animals are in the pasture which is at least 30 yards from the restaurant. There is open air seating available. You don't have to sit in the open air if you don't want to. We have been to this restaurant several times, and each time it seems to get better. We could smell the green chile on the green chile cheese fries before they reached out table! We had our dog with us and dined in the outdoor area. They were kind enough to bring her a bowl of water and some dog treats. Always a favorite stop when we are in and about "Alamo".

Nice down home atmosphere with an emphasis on beer, motorbikes and barbeque. Some minor problems with flies as there are goats, horses, cows and at least one donkey and one mule on the property. All this made for nice viewing of the surrounding fields as we enjoyed our meal. Kind of adds new meaning to 'I watch what I eat'. So, aside from the interesting setting, the service was polite but decidedly leisurely. Green chili stew was very good, as was the pork sandwich. The greens in our salad were quite fresh. Their homemade spicy BBQ sauce is just that; spicy. It was kind of pricey but still good. I think I might go back for the blackened catfish...

I have eaten here once before a year or so ago and honestly don't remember it being that great but I know it wasn't this disappointing. The atmosphere is great, no doubt, but the service was bad. They waitresses spend most of the time playing with their ponytails and hanging out at a back table doing who knows what. My husband said the bbq sandwich reminded him of a sloppy joe or hamburger helper meal and my okra was tough. We won't be going back again and obviously no one else is. We were the only ones there for dinner unless they came after we left.

Nope. Nope, nope, nope. Family of four and no one liked a THING about their food. I had a BBQ sandwich that was inedible and my wife had cold fat, I mean the brisket (yes, it was nasty) Not to mention whomever was cooking was making irritating noises and whistling in the kitchen that the entire dining room could hear. Avoid this annoying and sub par dining establishment or perhaps only come for a beer.

Always wanted to try this place, we drive by several times a year on our way to the mountains from El Paso. The day we decided to have lunch and drove our Harley to the resturaunt, which turned out to be a busy day for the resturaunt. (Not usually a problem) Well we were seated by the hostess and drink orders taken, after that we were ignored, literally. Hostess seated others, checked on others dinning experience and even took others orders that had come in after us, well we decided to just leave and avoid the confrontation. Cant comment on the food, prices were a little step for cafe type food.

I used to eat here fairly frequently, I loved to order the Carolina pulled pork sandwich. It was amazing and delish. How ever I have had other items off the menu that was not on the same level. Fries were terrible and items can be a bit pricey.

Friendly service, and yes, the mac 'n cheese is awesome! The dill vinaigrette is really good for salads. Beef brisket and ribeye are delicious. The weakest part of the meal was dessert.

Not impressed the 2-3 time I have been here since they opened. OK, but nothing to brag about, not worth the money.

Wow. We tried the joint last year...we live here...just to see if it was edible. Understand last year it wasn't. Last year I had the Carolina pork sandwich. Awful. Now granted, being a Marine Vet myself, I was in and out of NC, and the reheated pork tossed in some sort of lame BBQ sauce served on a ciabatta roll...ridiculous. My wife and I decided to try again today. I ordered the BBQ brisket sandwich. The wife had the BBQ bowl with chicken. The chicken bowl, which was a sliced chicken breast...sitting on kidney beans, a soaking wet glob of corn bread atop a heaping pile of liquid saturated cole slaw, allowed my wife to simply eat the chicken. Unappetizing to say the least. I took one bite of my BBQ sauce saturated brisket, and almost gagged on the salt. No, really. The brisket was little sliced pieces drenched in sauce....kind of like processed, packaged, pre-sauced nastiness.... I gave up. I walked in to the establishment, we were enjoying (????) a beautiful day on the patio ( only redeeming feature)....I told the waitress I was paying for a chicken breast, a Dr Pepper and a beer. She went to the back. She came out with a gentleman from the 'back'. He did something on the register and then disappeared. I didn't have to pay my bill. I left a $10 tip for her, I hope that was ok. In summery, we gave it a second chance, more than a year later. Service was spotty, food was terrible. I was marveling at the location...really sad indeed.

Our meal was fantastic! Don't know if the owners read the past not-so-nice reviews and stepped it up...because our experience was great. From the friendly staff to the green chili dip/homemade chips, pulled pork platter (I asked for the sauce on the side due to other reviews), rib-eye special cooked perfect, peach cobbler/bread pudding....it was ALL good! But the deal breaker was the awesome mac n cheese!!! Goodness! We fought over it! A military discount was a nice surprise. We are NOT locals (California and South Carolina) so we kinda know food. :) Maybe we caught them on a good night, but either way, we were impressed.

By Alamogordo standards, this place was pretty good. There are so few decent places to eat here. But, I wouldn't bother to return. Husband had the chicken fried steak, which he said was good. His sides were a disappointment. Pinto beans were canned and fries were typical frozen precut. My burger was awful. I watched burgers come out quickly. The patty was dry and even looked precooked. Maybe they just warmed it. Mac and cheese was good and clearly homemade. Nothing to make u return. Maybe they should stick to beer and the Mac n cheese!

The food was good, I enjoyed the atmosphere the restaurant provides. The staff is friendly and inviting, definitely care about being a successful. I don't know where there was a drop in communication, but part of my order didn't arrive with my meal, and I had to reorder it right before my check came, and ended up just getting it to go. But, for the area, it's not a bad place to grab a bite.

A little expensive, but not too bad. Food is fresh and tasty. The green chili stew is addictive! Closed Mondays.

Party of four and everyone was happy with their meal. Sort of pricey for the portion, but what isn't nowadays. Best deal is at lunch. Recommended!
