I had not been here in YEARS...after having grown up a bit in Alamogordo. I remember going here often when my dad ran the local video store. YEARS ago. Was still damn tasty...REAL green chile and crispy fries. Just like I remembered it!

We decided to try the Hi-D-Ho on a Friday night. It was about 8:30 & they were still open. A group was eating in the outdoor seating area & another car had pulled up & was ordering. The carhop came by shortly after we arrived & was friendly. Provided menus & left us alone to decide. She returned promptly & provided answers to our questions. So good so far. Then things started to slip. Our drinks arrived after a while, but the food was no where in site. One of our party went in to pay so when we got our food we could take it & head to our hotel for the night. The food finally arrived and we made haste for our hotel 1 mile down the main road. When we proceeded to eat at the hotel no more than 5 minutes after leaving the restaurant our burgers & fries were cold. We thought it had taken too long for our food to come out & apparently we had. Who knows how long the food sat there at the restaurant before the carhop brought it out. Not like they were that busy. The burgers were tasty, but would have been a lot better if got. The fries looked like they would have been good if they were hot, but cold they were not. 2 stars since the visit started nice, otherwise a 1 star for the close.

The old school drive-in is a classic piece of Americana, and it made me feel good inside to know that it existed here as one of the most popular places in the city. The burger made me feel good too - 1/3 pound of well-done meat, nice sear, and plenty of green chiles kept things simple but unique to this part of the country, and made it easy to see why the phone's constantly ringing off the hook with takeout orders.

Free wifi outdoor seating, neat menu options, decent prices, friendly staff. Takes a little bit for food, but if you're waiting it's being prepared. Stop here and check it out.

Good food. Great service, very nice people. Great place to sit and eat with our dog.

Green chili burgers were great. Fries were a little bland. Be prepared to salt them yourself. Fresh lemonade was awesome! Service was typical Alamogordo, slow and unfriendly.

Had the chorizo breakfast burrito, chips and salsa. Burrito was fantastic! The chorizo was perfectly spicy, chips were fresh, salsa was good, too. Wait was a little long though, so call ahead and get carry out if you're in a hurry.

The burger was ok and the french fries were ok too. I liked sitting on the patio watching the cars go by. I had the "famous" Tiger Burger, but thought it was just OK. I expected it to have green chile on it but it didn't, you have to order that as an extra. Maybe next time.

I came here with my boyfriend who is new to the area and has been raving about this place since he arrived. The burger was awesome; I can't imagine why someone would want to choose Sonic over a local drive in. Our server was super friendly and helpful. The menu doesn't specify the size difference by weight so I had the medium...which is equivalent to about a 1/4 lb burger. They also have fresh fruit to add to your soda. I love Dr. Pepper and with fresh strawberries it was yummmmmy! The price was decent as well for a fresh burger. I give this place a 2 thumbs up for sure!

Lunch was a disaster. We arrived around 2pm. The waitress knew what items were on the menu but couldn't answer any basic questions - she just said "I don't know." So we ordered and things were not as expected. She just dropped our food at our table on a tray and we were left to figure it out. Our kids (13, 11, and 9) hardly ate - and we don't blame them. The tacos needed some salsa, burritos needed sour cream or guac, and the BBQ was crazy salty. The bees and flies were also a problem. In general the food was really dry and needed something more. The waitress never came back and we didn't chase her down based on how she did when we ordered. We headed down the road and got food elsewhere.

This place is simply ok. I came during the summer just passing through. I get it, it is located in a small town and not a bad place to grab something quick but the most disturbing thing was the bee problem. There was bees EVERYWHERE. I am not exaggerating. If they have a nest on the property, it wouldn't surprise me. We had to run to our car because they were everywhere. If I had guess, it is in the thousands. Not only were they flying everywhere but all along the windows. I can't believe u would allow your employees and customers endure such uncomfortable conditions. Do everyone a favor and get an exterminator.

What's not to love. Excellent hot dogs and hamburgers. Great topping you can add. The New Mexico green chile is a must. Eating out here on the patio in the dry New Mexico air is a real treat and very relaxing. I really really like this place. The staff of friendly and some locals struck up a conversation with as well.

This place is good for every one; but if you yearn for one of those local drive in that still hang on from way back in the day this is most definitely your spot.

We were traveling from Texas to California, and decided to try this place out as they supposedly have the best burgers in the city. Highly disappointed. We were told to sit outside on the patio. Waitress was slow. The burgers were pretty bland, nothing impressive. Fries were ok. Never received drink refills. And after our food was dropped off we were not checked on, not even for the check. We had to ask for it, because I was just ready to get the hell out of there. On a positive note, the view across the street of the mountains, is pretty cool.

I'm always happy to find places like Hi D Ho, because they help me calibrate my metric for rock bottom of one star. Clearly the 65 reviewers that gave an average rating of 4.3 stars are used to eating out of dumpsters, because my experience there was abysmal. I went with a group of 7 hungry 20-some year olds. Normally we're happy with pretty much anything that is cheap and vaguely edible, but after eating at this place everyone agreed it was our duty to warn others of how absolutely terrible it was. Service: 1/5 Food: 0.5/5 Drinks: 4/5 I know there were 7 of us, but eating at this place took a total of 2 hours. I'd say it must have taken a good hour for our food to arrive. Considering the establishment advertised themselves as a 'Drive In', we were expecting it to be a fast rest stop--not a 2 hour long delay. Onto the food. You can check out my photos for proof shots. My friend and I ordered a Chicken Fajita Burrito. Confused by the promise of a hybrid between two basically identical dishes, we asked what it was. The waitress responded, "I don't really know. I guess I can tell you what's in it: lettuce, tomatoes, cheese..." *note: this description applies to literally every menu item* We thanked her and asked how large it was, since we were planning on splitting it. She reassured us that they were quite large. When the cold lump of tortilla was unceremoniously dumped in front of us an hour later, it appeared to be approximately an inch and a half in diameter and shorter than your average Twinkie. My friend and I are both small 5' girls who don't eat much, and after the three bites for my half of the "burrito" I was NOT satisfied. In addition, there was nothing 'Fajita' about my burrito. I really have no idea how or why they put 'Fajita' in the name. The filling consisted of unmelted Kraft cheese, wilted iceberg lettuce shreds, and a few lumps of unidentifiable meat. On top of all that, I paid an extra 0.89 for green chile and 1.25 for red chile. Chile being a point of state pride, most places give you xmas chile for free, but not this place. Neither chiles showed up in my burrito, but our entire group had been hungry for 1.5 hours, so I didn't bother complaining. Another friend got the Chili Bowl. As you can see from the photo, it came in a large styrofoam cup, and vaguely resembled diarrhea. A friend ordered Steak Fries. They came with a "side salad", which consisted solely of limp shredded iceberg lettuce, and "gravy," which turned out to be a strange white emulsion that was clearly made from a box mix. On the side, some soggy toast showed up unannounced. In the words of the friend who received it: "How the hell do you screw up toast?" One of my friends is vegetarian. There are few (no?) vegetarian options, although I guess that's to be expected. My friend ordered a fish sandwich, but the waitress came 15 minutes later to inform us: "Those are old menus; that's been taken off the menu." My friend settled for a lumpy tuna sandwich, the only other vegetarian option besides grilled cheese(?) or fried sides. Friend: "They probably downloaded the pictures at the front of the store off the Internet, because they certainly didn't make any of those things here. None of our food remotely resembled those pictures." My friend and I split the chocolate milkshake and it was good. I'd recommend the milkshake.

So good! Great Mexican food, and naturally, the green chile cheese burgers are awesome! Fries are good, crispy, tender inside. We've been dinning at this establishment for decades and it's always spot on. You pull up, leave your headlights on and/or honk and a carhop will come out to take your order (you can request a menu at this time if you don't know what to order), or you can go inside to order. Prompt and delicious!

So I work for lifetouch (school photography) and when I'm scheduled to work a few hours out of town or staying over night somewhere i usually try to sample the local fair. Today one of the other photogs swore by this place so I took her on her word for it This place is bast described in my opinion as the chicos tacos of burger joints It's essentially a drive in burger place with the option of getting off to eat and order your grub If you do get off the area where you pay and order is literally like 20x3 and the car hop person is always up and going to the cars and there is a little bit of a fly problem.... not the best place to eat The food itself is amazing, fresh home made taste and grilled is something most commercial places dont get right. I went with their largest burger the tiger with green chili's sans onions to share with the wife I would steer clear of their drinks though. Not that great, the lemon squeeze is so tart you'd die... messed me up haha For ordering and taking it back home which was about an hour away the food kept it's warmth and all it needed was a few min in the toaster oven. Add green chili too! It's a sin to be in new Mexico and not get it on anything you eat. I'll be back for sure!

Went here after multiple good reviews. The food was good but not worth the price 2 hot dog, fries, a shake, a drink and hamburger cost us $40. The only thing worth the trip is the green chili cheeseburger. The atmosphere is nice. It's an old school drive up but they have seating outside if you don't want to eat in your car.

Great lunch spot. Looks a little sketchy at first but its worth the stop. Had the Mayton Burger , which is on Texas Toast. Very good! Employees are friendly and order came out quickly.

A burger sounded good, and I went to the place that supposedly has the best burgers in town. Despite being a drive in, I decided to walk inside and order. The friendly lady got me hooked up with a tiger burger, add mushrooms and green chiles (80 cents each). Told me to wait in the car. So I waited in the car. And waited. And waited. 25 minutes later, my food came out. I mean, I appreciate fresh cooked food as much as the next, but come on. I went back to my hotel, just a few minutes away, and dug in. The fries...ice cold. Real shocker. She must have pulled those out of the heat lamp immediately, letting them sit outside for the rest of the 24 minutes and 59 seconds. The burger itself was warm. And huge. My god. Two seemingly full sized burgers, with cheese, with toppings. It was quite tasty. Not the best burger I've had by any means, but tasty. The fries, aside from being cold, were only okay. Even fresh from the oil, I don't think they would be that great. So, would I return? Sure...besides, Alamo has pretty mediocre food choices. But I would avoid eating all day, and plan on waiting quite a while.

Best burger I've ever had! Highly recommend the stop! The tiger burger with green Chile and pineapple is my favorite. Perfect blend of heat and sweet if you are into the combination. Meat us juicy and tastes amazing. The fries are nothing special but complete the meal. Also the usually have great sweet tea.

Although the service was great and the food arrived rather quickly (especially compared to other reviewers experiences) I just thought the food was awful. I got the luigi burger and now believe Parmesan should never be on a burger. Their actual burger was falling apart and hidden by the massive bun - as if it wasn't made to be a good size for the size buns they use. Something about the burger meat just tasted off. I'm shocked how many good reviews they have. I want to support the locally owned places but I won't come back here for that greasy food. I also got a chocolate milkshake and my friend ordered a malt - they were identically made. Just soft serve with some chocolate syrup on top. Mine was over flowing and was dripping all over - what a mess! I prefer it already mixed and stirred so I'm not eating clumps of vanilla and chocolate separately but rather mixed nicely a combo of both. Their fresh lemonade was delish and my hubby went on and on about their tater tots too. My other friend who got the medium special burger ended up getting an upset stomach and puking about an hour, if that, later. My husband ordered the beef and cheese burrito and didn't care for it at all. In fact we had a gas station one that tasted 100 times better.

You pull up and you can immediately get off and place an order inside or wait for them to come out to your car and take your order. You can also call in and make your order and pick it up inside or have them come out and bring it to you. I enjoyed this kind of service. I got the regular cheeseburger basket which included fries and a drink, and I also got a side order of onion rings. The burger was delicious!!!!! One of the best burgers I have ever eaten. The flavor is great, and it was homemade. The fries were ok, but weren't hot and fresh and didn't taste homemade. The onion rings also had a really good flavor, but they burnt them a little bit; I should have asked them to remake them, but eh..they were still pretty good. The prices were fairly cheap, but I thought the proportions were a little tight. It wouldn't fill you up completely if you were starving. I would definitely recommend coming here.

I've been craving a burger for a few days now. I'm from the Albuquerque area and I could not think of a place there that would satisfy my cravings because I feel like I've had 'em all. We were down here visiting family and friends. We asked a local where we could grab a good homemade burger. She recommended this place. Oooooooohhhhh lawd!!!! This is the best burger I have ever had. No joke! My husband and I split the tiger burger (we added bacon - This is a must!). The burger was flavorful, juicy, and was loaded with fresh and crunchy lettuce, tomatoes, onions and pickles. The next time we come back to this area, we plan to have another burger here. My compliments to the cook! Cherry-lemonade: ehhh I've had better. I felt it was too loaded with a sugary syrup. Btw, sorry I didn't post a pic. I couldn't put my burger down long enough to even consider grabbing my phone.

What a great old school drive in burger joint. With all the A&W's that dissappeared and Sonics blowing up, this is the old school still with really good food and service. Situated on the main drag in Alamo, it has to compete with all the chains and franchises and again it soo good. It just has an old school atmosphere that seems to have dissappeared in the last 30 years. I miss places like this.

The Tiger burger was a good burger! The whatever brand of meat they use was pretty tasty. There isn't much sitting room inside though, and I definitely would've wanted some honey mustard for my burger. For that size of burger I feel the 7$ bucks for it was a little steep. It was about the size of a 4$-5$ dollar burger. I'd recommend to someone that's never been, it's really an Alamogordo Classic place to eat at or at least try!

Drive safely, but get here as fast as y ou can!!! Hands down the best burgers in Alamogordo. The Cherry Limeade is the best I've ever had anywhere. I love this place, but my waistline does not. The key is moderation, otherwise expect to pick up a few pounds. No so healthy, but man oh man are they good!!!

I don't want to say this place is bad, but it's just not good. The food is mediocre at best and the service is awful! I was in town with my family and we thought we'd try one of the local establishments for lunch. We stop by here and went inside to place our order, a lady inside told us to find a seat outside and a girl would be by to take our order. 15 minutes later no one had stopped by to take our order or even acknowledge us. We called in our order from out front and waited another 20+ minutes. When we finally did get our order, they had forgotten my wife's onion rings & my daughter's tater tots. My cheeseburger seem like it spent the last 20 minutes sitting under a heat lamp as the paper it was wrapped in was soaked and the bun was soggy. We finished our meal and still had yet to see our missing sides. My wife went inside to ask for a refund for the missing sides since we were ready to leave, but wouldn't you know it, they were finally ready. I don't know if I've ever felt as a customer so insignificant to a business as I did at this place. Needless to say we will not be stopping here again.

We left Tucson Sunday morning Sept 29 and by night time, we were famished. We had hotel reservations to sleep in Alamogordo so two hours before we arrived in town, I checked Yelp for a place to eat and found this place. The reviews were so good we passed through Las Cruces without stopping to make sure we got to this place before it closed at 9:00pm. We arrived Sunday night Sept 29 at 8:25pm to find the place dark but with "workers" inside, I went in to order and the three ladies behind the counter told me they were closed - they decided to go home early. I pointed out they had half an hour to go and they mumbled some back-talk. I told them I had no choice but to post on Yelp and they started laughing at me. I walked to my car and when I got in, both my gf and myself stopped to watch them ( through the glass front) continue laughing, joking and mocking me. If you want to eat at a place that has no regard for their customers, that thinks customers are crap, where employees have no integrity or professionalism in their job, you'll be right at home here. Hi-D-Ho earned my one-star rating.

Thank you, Hi-D-Ho Drive In for your delicious post-White Sands hike food. Awesome burgers, fries, tots and fresh-squeezed lemonade. Will visit this place every time we are in the area. One of the best burgers on our 3-week road trip.

Had the regular sized cheeseburger with all the fixings... Lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and mustard. This burger was amazing! It definitely hit the spot for a craving for a nice juicy burger. My wife also had the burger and she LOVED it! We will be coming back to this place next time we find ourselves down south. The fries are also very good and have a really tasty potato flavor with just the right amount of salt. The cherry limeade and limeade could have been a little more authentic but hey... They did the trick to help wash down our meal. Note: you will wait about 15 mins for your order because it's made fresh but if you can wait then it is worth it.

We went here only after our pastor at First Assembly was raving about how delicious this place was... The Good: We liked it. We highly recommend the Mayton and Luigi Burger, and they're fries are pretty good when they're freshly made. Also, try their lemonade! The Bad: The exterior looks sketchy, but the workers and their work areas seem clean. The Ugly: Since the food is made to order; prepare to wait 30-40 minutes for your order. Avoid going at lunch/dinner rushes. Maybe, calling ahead, but it doesn't guarantee they'll get to it ASAP. Don't try to be "smart" and go for a late dinner either. We got to the place at 7:30pm and didn't get our food until 8:15pm, and to top it off our fries were stale and a parent's nightmare come true: they didn't include my child's meal! So I had to return to the restaurant. All in all, if you catch them on a good day. They're awesome! Catch them on a different day then...

This is the best burger place in town and probably one of the better ones I've had overall. The place is old and a bit of a dive, but the food is by far better than all of fast food joints around. I highly recommend the Luigi Burger (Onions, Parmesan) and add green chili and jalapenos. (if you like spicy) The Tiger burger is very popular, it's basically a huge double cheese burger. I hear the breakfast burritos are awesome, but ha vent had a chance to try one myself.

Tiger burgers are great. Surprisingly, they also have great tacos. The salsa that comes with the tacos appears to be home made and fresh. If you are in the area, I highly recommend stopping by this place.

Passing through Alamogordo around lunch time and we needed something to eat. This was just what we were looking for and we didn't even have to get out of the car! We got the burger with bacon that came on Texas toast, tater tots and chicken strips. The service was pretty good, we didn't wait too long. The chicken strips were nothing to write home about, but there was plenty of them. The burger was better than average. The only downside is we ordered a shake and after a few minutes we were informed "they were cleaning the milkshake machine". I'm not sure if that is code for something, but it was right around lunchtime and didn't seem like a great time to do that. Needless to say, we were a little disappointed. Based on some of the previous reviews, I guess we lucked out. Overall, it was a good experience. Good food, good service. I would definitely stop by here again.

Good burger, but the fries were lackluster considering how tasty the burger was. Listen to what everyone else days and get the green chili.
(4)
Dan H.
Don't let the skeevy look of it convince you not to eat there (like it did me the first time I drove by). BTW they just redid the outside so it looks a little nicer. The burgers are awesome. The rest of the menu looks good too but I can never not get a burger so I may never know. Sonic is the shiny penny basically right next door but their burgers are awful - besides, support local business. Get the Luigi Burger w/ Green Chili!!

Great burger, but don't expect it to be fast. Attentive service, quick to fix a mistake from the grill. Yummy shakes and cherry limeade was fresh and tart.

Wow! Great burgers! This place doesn't look like much, but dang! Came here for lunch. Saw a sign they have posted that this wasn't fast food, but we were served pretty quickly. Good prices, higher quality beef really made the difference. Just the right toppings, a few options. I had the Luigi burger and loved it! I think adding one or two more specialty burgers would make the menu more enticing. I didn't even glance at the other menu items but there were a few choices besides burgers. Fries were good, vibe was relaxing, waitress was really hustling and nice, too. This place was like a diamond in the rough. There are a lot of chains in this town, and the locally owned places were mostly closed because it was Sunday (?) whatever on that. Anyway, Hi-D-Ho makes some D-Licious burgers!

Every time we come to town we pass by...this time we stopped and I am glad we did!! It was delicious!! I ordered the Mayton and it was amazing!! Be ready for a little bit of a wait but it was well worth it!!

Best Green Chile Cheeseburger I've had in New Mexico!! The food is really, really good. The fresh squeezed Cherry Limeade is the bomb (and not some syrupy, sugary $onic fake crap neither). Lots of call in orders tend to overwhelm the staff, but the extra wait at the drive-in is totally worth it. I will be coming to Hi-D-Ho for burgers from now on.... The tacos are excellent as well.
(4)
Joel B.
I came here the day after the first review and got another burger, this time around lunch time. Crowded at peak hours, for realz! I waited a good twenty or more minutes for my burger and fries. Listen to the reviews that say to call ahead. This is what you should do. I did not this time because I was coming back from White Sands and had no way to look up the number. In sum: Good food. Call ahead.
(4)
Laura J.
This place is great! Everyone is so friendly and the food was awesome! It looks a little old but we were glad we stopped to try it. I ordered a lemonade and the girl stood there and literally squeezed lemons into my cup for the lemonade. The Luigi burger is probably the best burger on their menu. Get it with green chiles and you are good to go!
(5)
Nathan M.
Food was great but the service sucked. the Tiger burger tastes pretty good, but dont reccommend to order inside; if you see the way they prepare the food, you might not come back. Maybe its me, but I expect the cooks to wear gloves when preparing food.
(3)
Charlotte C.
I so wanted this place to be really good but my husband and I were disappointed! Positives: Their shakes were very good and the way you order the food from your car was very nostalgic. Negative: Our food took 30+ minutes because it's made to order (expected) but the food did not taste like it was fresh! Our fries and buns were stale, the flavor to the food was plain/boring, and the help looked like they could use more help! I can't get past stale fries so we won't be going back, this place could be so much better.
(2)
Robert S.
Absolutely one of the best green chili burgers anywhere. Large burger, juicy, cooked to order, added green chili, cheese and bacon. Outstanding. Only minus is that they give you Hunts ketchup packets. If it isn't Heinz, it's not even in the same condiment category.

Took the family for dinner after being out all day...the place is a drive-in and although it is not as new and shiny as the Sonic next door, it works for this place. Everything was clean and the service was fine. Amongst us all we ordered the Tiger Burger with fries, corn dog, kids burger meal with fries and drink, and another medium cheeseburger with fries. The food and prices were well matched. The food itself was pretty good. The Tiger Burger is huge with two patties, covered in onions (yum), and had a great taste. If you don't have a big appetite you could share this. The fries that came with the burger were great as well. The medium burger would rate the same way except it was not as large. The corn dog was fine and the kid's burger meal was a great price and the size of the burger was generous for a kid's meal. After reading the other reviews I now understand why this hamburger joint gets such good reviews. The quality, amount, and price of the food are just what they should be. If you want to try something different next time you're craving a hamburger, bypass McDonald's and Wendy's and give this place a try.

I absolutely love this place . Food and drinks are absolutely delicious . The staff is even better, beyond friendly & awesome !! Wish Hi D Ho was closer to me in California , I'd eat here all the time if I could . If you're in town , stop by , your stomach will thank you :)

GREEN CHILI CHEESEBURGER!!!!! This place is so great!!! In a little town full of Sonic Burger and every other fast food change there is, Hi-D-Ho is a REAL cheeseburger at a drive in that has been around since 1952. As the proprietress told us, (a glamorous grandma), they have been around a long time and to Dylan's chagrin, serving pepsi products for 35. Dylan got the "Tiger Burger" - basically a totally massive homade double cheeseburger and I got the espec-ial green chili cheeseburger. The best part is that the burger covers the WHOLE bun!!! awesome. And the buns are grilled, so they are warm and crusty. The fries were just okay, but the burger was so good who cares! It was fab and one of the few places in Alamogordo that I have been excited to eat at.
(4)

Service can be slow, but the food is amazing and well worth the wait. I order the tiger burger with green chili, which imo can go toe to toe with any green chili burger. Can be considered the best burger joint in town.
(5)
George A.
The food may be good, but the kitchen was slow. It took more than 45 minutes to get my food, and they were unable to provide me with a drink, having run out between the time I ordered and the time they finally brought the food. If this is they way they always operate, I don't see how they stay in business. Sonic may not taste as good, but I can eat the food while I remember what I ordered.

AH Hi D Ho so many times have I come here as a child and adult and the only thing that changes is the people who work there. The tiger burger with green Chile is a must, along with a lemon squeezed make sure you ask for extra salt. Be prepared to leave full these burgers are huge. One tip after a long night drinking get a tiger burger ten bucks says you will feel better.

Open since 1952, this place is like a time machine. The Tiger Burger is awesome!!! My wife likes the Green Chilly Cheeseburger (a New Mexico specialty). This place is a fave with locals. Don't go if you are in too much of a hurry, call ahead to avoid the wait.

Best burgers in southern New Mexico, nobody else even comes close. Fresh patties, seasoned on the grill, made to order, and served hot. Do it once, you'll never eat another burger anywhere else in Otero County. "Two Tiger burgers, wet" is all you need to say, and all you need to eat. They'll take care of the rest. If you're passing through Alamo-Go-Go and you're only going to eat one meal here, go to Hi-D-Ho.

Great food and local flavor. The walls inside are covered with snapshots of customers with names written on the pictures with marker. Some clearly locals, like "Jamie", and others in a group shot simply labeled "California". The Hi-D-Ho bills itself as the "Home of the Tiger Burger" and is pretty much the quintessential drive-in scene except with home cooked food. I ordered the red enchiladas with an egg and it mistakenly came covered in meat. Being a vegetarian who travels, this happens a lot. I have never seen it handled in a better way than by the folks at the Hi-D-Ho. The waitress apologized, came back and said that it would be free and that they would remake the order as soon as possible. And this was about ten minutes before closing. The cook came out with the meat free enchiladas and apologized! And the enchiladas were amongst the best I have ever eaten. A class act all the way. Don't patronize the chain restaurants in Alamagordo. Head here instead.

Living in Alamogordo and with a paltry selection of restaurants/fast food joints to eat at, I decided to check this place out on the recommendation of a hot chick because 1) she's hot and--more importantly of course--thin and 2) I was as hungry as the homeless guy with the sign outside of Wal-Mart (you know the guy). This place is similar to Sonic in that you drive up to either side of the place and order but instead of a menu or call button a server will come up to your vehicle and take your order. There's also some picnic tables if you choose to eat there. Anyways, based off of most the reviews I'd read they suggested getting the Tiger Burger which is the flagship item on the menu. (Before I continue, I should give you a quick disclaimer that I practically never eat red meat or fried food and if I do it's maaaaaybe once a month. I'm literally writing this on the toilet right now but that's not a disservice to the wonderful Hi-D-Ho establishment) They also serve other things (sandwiches, tacos, shrimp baskets, shakes, etc.) but I just stuck with the burger and fries. I also elected to add green chile and grilled jalapeños because I like spicy food (maybe that's why I'm on the toilet?). Upon unwrapping the double-patty burger I was greeted with a scent of grease and dead cow that screamed EAT ME. So I did, and I have to admit that this is probably the best burger in Alamogordo that I've tried or had anywhere in a while. The buns were crispy which I liked (though they kind of fell apart) and the fries weren't bad or great, but if you use Thousand Island to dip them in I mean, DOES IT REALLY EVEN MATTER?! Anyways, I paid $12 for a good meal and an upset stomach so if you're in the mood for a delicious burger and/or self-loathing afterwards, Hi-D-Ho won't let you down.

Oh. That sound involuntarily escaped me when I took my first bite of the green chili cheeseburger. That's what I'm talkin' about. Great burger. The fries were good. Chocolate shake...ok, wouldn't hurt if it tasted more...dairy ish. I was saddened as I sat here at this independent establishment with great food and watched car after car drive in to Wendy's and Arby's across the street. Shouldn't the locals know about this place? Have they forgotten it? What's up Alamogordo? Keep this place alive so I can get another green chili burger when I come through again.

(3)John W.
Free wifi outdoor seating, neat menu options, decent prices, friendly staff. Takes a little bit for food, but if you're waiting it's being prepared. Stop here and check it out.
(4)Robert E.
Good food. Great service, very nice people. Great place to sit and eat with our dog.
(5)Dustimothy W.
Green chili burgers were great. Fries were a little bland. Be prepared to salt them yourself. Fresh lemonade was awesome! Service was typical Alamogordo, slow and unfriendly.
(4)Celeste H.
Had the chorizo breakfast burrito, chips and salsa. Burrito was fantastic! The chorizo was perfectly spicy, chips were fresh, salsa was good, too. Wait was a little long though, so call ahead and get carry out if you're in a hurry.
(4)Jason H.

(1)Teresa C.
(3)Joe S.
(5)Michael R.
It has been a few years since I was last here and the Tiger Burger with Hatch Green Chili's was Just as Outstanding as back than....
(5)David S.
This place is good for every one; but if you yearn for one of those local drive in that still hang on from way back in the day this is most definitely your spot.
(4)Autumn M.

(4)Rachel S.
(3)Mark H.
Great lunch spot. Looks a little sketchy at first but its worth the stop. Had the Mayton Burger , which is on Texas Toast. Very good! Employees are friendly and order came out quickly.
(4)Zach G.
(3)Nancy A.
(5)Jamieleigh W.
(1)Shelly V.
Beyond rude and ignorant service! How hard is it to one acknowledge someone, two smile, three get the order right!?! Please whomever reads this HIRE NEW STAFF
(1)Sarah C.
Very good food! I had the tacos and they were good, my kiddos had the corn dogs and those were a hit and my hubby got the green chili burger. Yum all the way around.
(5)Toby W.
(4)Paul W.
I tell a we all had burgers and tacos. Do it once and you will do it over and over. Thanks to the staff for a fn awesome experience!!!!
(5)Michelle A.
(5)Jace V.
(5)Robert J.
(3)Mee H.
Tasty shakes & burgers:)
(4)Steve R.
(5)Rod S.

(1)J W.
Best burgers in Alamogordo. Period.
(5)Gregory P.
Thank you, Hi-D-Ho Drive In for your delicious post-White Sands hike food. Awesome burgers, fries, tots and fresh-squeezed lemonade. Will visit this place every time we are in the area. One of the best burgers on our 3-week road trip.
(5)Steven V.
(5)Zariena D.
(3)Scott S.
(5)Adam S.
Tiger burgers are great. Surprisingly, they also have great tacos. The salsa that comes with the tacos appears to be home made and fresh. If you are in the area, I highly recommend stopping by this place.
(5)Eyezola G.
Oh how I loooooove hi d ho!!! I do not come to alamo without stopping here at least once! There is something to be said for small town eats! AND the burgers are ignorant good!!! Love it!
(5)Vanessa D.
The food is so good! The Tiger Burger with green chili is huge but delicious!
(4)Cesario G.
The Mayton burger is awesome, one of the better places to eat in town.
(5)Brandon P.
So good! Like many places in town, it's not much to look at, but super tasty food!
(5)Aaron L.
(4)David W.
Good burger, but the fries were lackluster considering how tasty the burger was. Listen to what everyone else days and get the green chili.
(4)Dan H.
(5)A L.
Great burger, but don't expect it to be fast. Attentive service, quick to fix a mistake from the grill. Yummy shakes and cherry limeade was fresh and tart.
(4)Jeremy M.
(5)Rebeccah M.
Every time we come to town we pass by...this time we stopped and I am glad we did!! It was delicious!! I ordered the Mayton and it was amazing!! Be ready for a little bit of a wait but it was well worth it!!
(5)Zach R.
(4)Joel B.
Call ahead.
(4)Laura J.
(5)Nathan M.
Food was great but the service sucked. the Tiger burger tastes pretty good, but dont reccommend to order inside; if you see the way they prepare the food, you might not come back. Maybe its me, but I expect the cooks to wear gloves when preparing food.
(3)Charlotte C.

Service can be slow, but the food is amazing and well worth the wait. I order the tiger burger with green chili, which imo can go toe to toe with any green chili burger. Can be considered the best burger joint in town.
