Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Went to Surf Taco after coming back from California and having fish tacos there. I thought they would be sorta similar, however, Surf Taco came nowhere close. My ordered consisted of a Baja Surf Taco, Garlic Shrimp Taco, and the Buffalo Calamari. I wasn't a big fan of their tacos in general, they were about $5 for just one, which to me was a bit expensive for just one taco. However, you really don't need more than two tacos in total. The Garlic Shrimp Taco was not too bad, but I didn't even finish the Baja Surf Taco. I have to start a new paragraph just for the Buffalo Calamari, because I loved them. If I was to reorder, I would get one taco and these calamari. They basically are calamari tossed in buffalo sauce, then plated with pico de gallo and bleu cheese crumbles on top. It is awesome and I will go back to Surf Taco just to have these. If I didn't experience the Buffalo Calamari, then I probably would have given Surf Taco 2 stars.

I've been to surf Taco a few times (Point Pleasant, Red Bank, Long Branch and Jackson) and the food is very mediocre and over priced. I lived in San Diego and Surf Taco is trying to imitate the Southern California, surfer taco shop vibe. They greatly missed the mark. The taco spots in Southern Cali are small, quick with great food for a cheap price. Surfers would rather spend money on surfboard wax than food. The average South Cali taco spot prices are $2 tacos and $2.50 margaritas. Surf Taco is too expensive for the mediocre food served.
(2)Kim P.
Fun, casual dining, fresh ingredients. They get very busy on the weekends, so you may have to takeout instead of dine in. It can get very hot and stuffy in there on a warm day! The taco salad is amazing and the bowl is delicious. They will change it up any way you want with no fuss. Friendly staff!
(4)Jackie A.
Surf taco is so good! I have been eating here since it first opened. I'm so glad that they have more than one place now. I love that you can grab as much salsa as you want! The food comes out very quick which is great when you're starving, however, it is never really hot. But it tastes good!
(4)Stephen D.
awesome great California style fish taco's and burritos. Full salsa bar for the brave fire lovers. Honestly it looks like a hole in the wall but has character, good food, TV could be alittle loud though. Not a place for a first date, unless this is the love of taco's and burritos' can overtake you. If you have the chance i recommend to go and take the trip. oh and try the shrimp and garlic taco's, they have great flavor. CW

This place is just consistently awesome. I've never had a bad meal there. The only complaint is sometimes i have to wait 5 minutes on line!!! Usually, I get the Costa Rican burrito or the Buffalo Soldier, but I've had most things on the menu. The place itself is beachy and laid back with a surfer vibe. The kids enjoy playing the provided connect four game while they eat their quesadillas. The only thing I would say is that their catering was just ok. We got the taquitos which were flavorless and the person who brought the food over had the sternos on full blast which burnt the rice and some other things. Anyway, for baja style surf mexican, thins place can't be beat. I wish they would open up in Bergen County, but I guess it's nice to have a place that's special for the summertime.
(4)Gabriella R.
This place is awesome. I've been here many times and it has yet to let me down. The Mango Shrimp Taco is great! It's my new favorite dish. The atmosphere is really welcoming and laid back. It really hits the spot after a long day at the beach. You can even ask for surf taco stickers and they give you a few for free!
(4)Kristen H.
Fantastic. Great for the money. The food at this location is always great. It does get busy on summer days, but it's the perfect spot to hit when you come off the beach. The staff can get snippy, but the food is worth it. The original Surf Taco (a fish taco with coleslaw on it) is where it's at. The burritos are giant! I would avoid the Silverton location, but the original is still delish!
(5)Steffanie R.
More like a 3.5, I was born and raised in San Diego so I know mexican food, but this is Jersey and they aren't trying to be so. cal. at all. Their burritos are huge and pretty good. I Really love their bowls because they use real fresh food. But its thier own style. They aren't trying to be southern CA style, they are just NJ Beach style. I mean the bowls had grilled pepper and onions in it, which I will order without next time. Their salsa bar is ok, which they had a hotter sauce. My Cousin LOVED their fried Calamari. I do wish they were more Gluten Free Friendly. This is Not CALI style people, its very good for the area. But if you want the real thing you will have to go to San Diego, since I can't go home all the time I do indulge in Surf Taco.
(3)JoeNLauren P.
It's been like 5 years since I've been to this place but almost every night it's in my dreams. Unfortunately Reno is nowhere near the NJ coast, but I often ponder moving solely for proximity to the best food, ever. Now, if you could just start selling t-shirts online so I could represent, I'd be grateful!!! Definitely check this place out if you haven't. And if you have, what are you doing reading reviews? Go eat!
(5)Phoebe T.
YUM! This place serves great (and pretty huge) mahi mahi tacos. We came here after a day on the jersey shore and were glad we came. There's also a free salsa bar for the chips that come with your tacos. Of note: some of the tacos can be spicy so be sure to ask before if the taco you want has any spicy salsa in it if you're sensitive to that sort of stuff!
(4)Mike C.
The food's not bad but I'd much rather eat at Fins, Bubbakoos, Chipotle, or Qdoba
(2)Kimberly F.
Great laid back place to eat! Tons of options and ok prices. I got the garlic and shrimp burrito ....drooolll. With a side of buffalo calamari for the table. It was amazing! The service was friendly, and super quick. It only loses one star because of really crappy guacamole. I added a quick squeeze of lime and some salt and boom, it was back to great. But being that it was a Mexican i really had that they failed so badly at a simple, Mexican staple. Skip the extra Guc, and get the buffalo calamari, loaded with blue cheese crumbles(rather than the dressing) Another downside, a tiny parking lot.
(4)Kris G.
Awesome coconut shrimp taco with mango salsa!!!
(5)J S.
This is definitely the best Surf Taco on the shore. True, it doesn't have a bar like the one in Jackson, but it's "Coastal Cuisine..." you don't need a bar! There are TVs around the restaurant with surfing videos...awesome. I crave Surf Taco all the time. Perfect food for after the beach. GET THE WAFFLE FRIES!
(4)Carolyn G.
LOVE SURF TACO!!! Crispy Beef tacos are great and so are the burritos. Nutty Surfer Shake is a great way to finish off your meal!
(5)Alexandra B.
~Surf Taco remains on top~ I have never had a bad meal here. Quick/Cheap awesome. It is hard for me to recommend anything because I like everything and pretty much have had the entire menu. I usually do not review places I go to regularly but I recently just had "Bubbakoo's" in pt. pleasant also (off of bridge ave) and was told that it was giving Surf Taco a run for its money. Disagreed. The food was just OK nothing special at all and they didn't even offer a fish taco. Surf Taco is the best, hands down!
(5)John W.
Excellent , fresh, healthy. Go here!
(4)Colin H.
Absolutely delicious. We both had the Baja Surf Taco. Got crazy busy right after we ordered. Any wait would've been worth it.
(5)Rob S.
The delicious tacos rocked my world. Fresh ingredients. Avocado lime sauce was out of this world. Good, creative specials and menu. Salsa bar was also fantastic. Eat at Surf Taco. WAFFLE FRIES! (collective review left by group of 4 who visited Surf)
(5)Alexis J.
Have to agree with the people on this one. Surf Taco has good food at a good price. My entire family is a huge fan of their fish tacos and I like their Malibu Veggie Burrito and Veggie Tacos. Good combo meals, too. Fun casual decor, tasty salsa bar, friendly staff. A great place to change it up your meals when down the shore. Bonus... Surf Taco is BYOB! Bring your boos, they will provide you with ice bucket and bottle opener.

Fish tacos. First had 'em at Wahoo's in Venice Beach; been picky ever since then. We went for a light lunch on Sunday, and it fit the bill perfectly, both literally and figuratively. There's a bit of the sticky to this place, and it's not because of the salt water. Even a glance at the weathered varnish on the wooden seating and the grime between the tiles conjures up the squirm-inducing memory of your sweaty legs sticking to various surfaces. It's enough to make you reach for your beach towel before you sit down, but that's where the choice outdoor seating comes in. I had the grilled mahi taco and the regular surf taco (battered cod with fresh cabbage and their great avocado sauce) and really enjoyed both. Also, fresh tortilla chips and unlimited mild salsa and salsa verde, so fresh you can still taste the tomatillo...lovely. I didn't try the hotter stuff...too much of a pansy.
(4)Allison L.
I use surf taco as an alternative to the fast food franchises. They have really good food and I always end up ordering to much. Good food, fast at an okay price. It is a great place to hit after the beach or a long walk. It is super casual and I enjoy being able to sit back and play a few rounds of Connect Four.
(3)Jd M.
Listen to these reviews...this place is great for an Americanish Mexican place. They have plenty of options and plenty sauces. I had a combo of tacos and rice and beans. Great great great.
(5)Gina C.
good food nice salsa
(4)Linda M.
Loud and sometimes a wait even for call in orders. We want to love this place because we love tacos, but there is something basic missing and we've stopped going.
(2)Marin G.
Normally chain restaurants are a huge turn-off for me but I went into this one unknowingly and was shocked by how delicious the food was. The ingredients tasted fresh and who doesn't like a fresh salsa bar? The staff was extremely friendly and the surf videos they play continuously were radical.
(4)Brian W.
Awesome food.. most of it is relatively healthy and everything tastes great. The prices are average for what you'd expect at a beachy burrito/taco place.. about $6-8 per. The employees are usually nice and laid back. Might I add the burritos at this place are HUGE.. I'm talking like 6" thick and 8" wide.
(4)Richie P.
A staple of the Jersey shore, Surf Taco gives you the beach atmosphere and the best taco's and burritos around. I suggest the Shrimp Taco, and Chicken Taquitos!
(5)Erica Y.
The first time we attempted to go to Surf Taco, it was about 8:45. They state they close at 9 on the signs. We went in and were told they had shut everything down for the night already -bummer. The second time was MARVELOUS. I had a surf burrito and it was to die for. The place is clean, the service is quick, and the food is great. Good value for your buck. We have been back since - it is one of my favorite places to eat. Just get there early. ;)
(4)Bill L.
Great Food. Great atmosphere. Never disappoints.
(4)Tim N.
Not bad for a Mexican joint on the Jersey Shore. Food wasn't particularly authentic, but was enjoyable! Staff was friendly, music was good and they showed surfing videos in the background. An all-around fun experience.
(4)Stuart S.
Having lived in San Diego, I have discriminating standards when it comes to Mexican food. I find it hard to find a decent Mexican restaurant in New Jersey, especially on the shore. Surf Taco, however, is pretty good, though not very authentic. But that's ok. The food is fresh, the veggies are tasty and the meat is tender. The salsas aren't so great, but the salsa verde is leaps and bounds ahead of the other choices. It's pretty popular, so service can be slow when it's crowded. There are plenty of locations, and it's reasonably priced. Not bad.
(3)Timothy S.
I've been going since its inception, always been good food and a laid back atmosphere. It's rising prices have made me venture there less though.
(4)Greg T.
Great food at a great price. I have been going here for years and have always had a good meal. Food is fresh, staff is great and its a totally relaxed environment. Love the homemade salsas.
(4)Skip B.
I live 3000 miles away and make an effort to eat there at every opportunity. Nuff said.
(5)ali A.
Amazing quick food. As always. But the best part has always been the smoothies.
(4)Mary S.
Love Surf Tacos - Worth the trip! Always fun experience- you know your at the shore when you go Surf Taco!
(5)Lauren C.
If you like tasteless food and poor service then YES you will LOVE this place! Cabbage on tacos and the rice is Minute Maid rice....... I ordered an extra side of sour cream and they forgot it. Asked for NO cilantro and they brought us tacos with the pico on it and said "you said no cilantro not no pico". HELLO if there is cilantro in your pico it would be considerate to mention it. Attitude from every high schooler working there. Four girls behind the counter playing with their hair near all of the food. I'm not sure how this place has almost 5 stars.
(1)John N.
I love this place only complaint a little pricey but food is wonderful love the mahi mahi taco Staff is friendly and also service is quick for it being made to order ! Also love the stickers being I am a sticker freak!
(4)Liz M.
Love this place. Every time I come to New Jersey I have to have surf taco. It's a chain here but I didn't know that because it definetly does not seem like one. The place is small and gets busy quick so if your Smart you will call ahead like we did. The food here is just amazing. It's very fresh. I had the steak taco bowl. It was lettuce cheese pico guacamole cheese and sour cream. It was stuffed into a crispy shell. They have a salsa bar where you can decide how much heat you want for it. If your ever in the jersey area definetly check this place out.
(5)Adam M.
It's summer. Every trip to the shore needs some Surf Taco. From the salsa bar to the fountain drinks. Yum-o. Drew likes the hot salsa. Check out the special board. Mango shrimp taco. Wow. I think this is going to be a taco summer
(5)Erica M.
I stop here every time I am in NJ. I love their California cheese steak wrap. They have a salsa bar that is very good. Salsa Verde (the green one) has garlic in it and it is to die for! Great beach food.
(4)Nikki P.
Always good tacos. However the chill "surfer vibes" don't translate through to the employees. My friend asked for guacamole and it didn't come out with her meal. Woulda gave this place a higher rating but if an employee forgets to ring up the guacamole and then they ask you to get up and come back to the register and pay for the guacamole that they forgot to ring up then they should just give it to her for free. How rude.
(3)Lydia B.
Cool vibe, good tunes, good people and yummy chow. A simmer staple on he jersey shore. Surf taco rocks
(5)Sean M.
If you like shredded cabbage, this is your place. Ordered Mahi and Shrimp tacos. Both had trace amounts of their protein but filled with about 85% of shredded cabbage. Also had the garlic shrimp burrito which was filled with 85% white rice... That's just odd. There is no Mexican flare or spice to these dishes. It's a mish-mash of flavors barely discernable over a mouthful of cabbage or rice. lol Decor is casual jersey shore. Parking is very limited. Service n/a. There are summer-hire teenagers behind the counter. Would not recommend.
(2)Wendy G.
Went here after the beach for a quick meal. I ordered the Garlic Shrimp Burrito. Service: The kid at the register was a bit unpleasant. He definitely gave the vibe that he didn't want to be there. Kind of felt that I annoyed him when I ordered cause he had to get off his phone. Food: The top 1/3 of the burrito was all rice, beans and cabbage. Not much favor. Then my next bite was into an uncooked shrimp. I thought I was crazy because all the shrimps were gray-pink. Until I kept digging and found one fully-cooked pink shrimp. We went up and showed the manager and she offered me a new burrito but at this point I was turned off. So she literally said 'Sorry, I'll just toss it then for you'. It was only after I asked for a credit or a refund did she mention it. I would probably return but maybe stick to chicken next time to be safe, but would not go out of my way to go here.
(3)Joe R.
Surf Taco delivers. Not literally. They do takeout but you have to do your own schlepping. No, what I mean is that you get what you expect -- tasty California Mexican tacos and burritos and all that at a reasonable price in a casual atmosphere. Great for kids, too. I love this place. Most of the choices are reliably good, especially the fajitas platter that can feed two adults happily for about 10 bucks. The chips are good, you can take as much salsa as you like, and they have one of those drink machines that have like a million variations on root beer.
(5)Jo D.
This place is good! Cool place when you are down the shore We live in NYC so to go to a nice laid back place and just order, sit, and have a beer is all we can handle most weekends. Tacos are good, fresh, flavorful, big portions. Nice salsa bar. would go back
(4)Laura Z.
A must visit when down the shore! Recommend getting the combo platter #2 - it is a great value at $8.95 as it comes with two tacos of your choosing, plus rice, black beans, tortilla chips and a soft drink. My go-to taco choices are garlic shrimp and teriyaki chicken. I will warn you - these are a tad messy and you may need a fork, as the contents tend to explode all over the place. However, you leave feeling stuffed. My only complaint after our recent trip is the big booth was ripped in the back and had a lot of flies all over it - one of my favorite places to sit as a group so hope it gets fixed soon!
(5)Matt E.
We had to go to point pleasant to pick up a surfboard at a shop... we passed Surf Taco and turned around to get a bite. Friendly staff and great food! defintly headed back next time we are close by.
(5)Lori R.
I'm from California, so mexican food on the East Coast is always pretty rough. This place was really just passable for lunch. It wasn't particularly fresh or authentic. There was too much moisture in the tacos and they were really runny. The shrimp was lacking flavor as was the salsa. It served the purpose of eating lunch but I won't be missing the food. Go here if you're desperate.
(2)Simpel t.
Cheap tortilla on the burritos. Stingy on the avocado. They messed up my order and nobody apologized. Waiter asked me if I ordered correctly if I didn't know what I ordered. Might go back because it's cheap-eats down by jersey shore. But will not be returning anytime soon.

Surf taco is a spot my boyfriend and I frequently enjoy when we come down to our house. We usually have a great experience there, until tonight. My boyfriend and I get the counter and my boyfriend orders our meal and asks for 2 water cups. My boyfriend gives her my credit card and we proceed to go outside with the number for our table. After waiting 45 minutes and not getting any food I inquired about our tsunami we ordered. The manager comes out and asks us about how we made our payment and we told her our card and she said she had no record of our card being on file but goes to look once more and clarify with the cashier. The Manager comes back out to tell me that she didn't have any record of the transaction and I tell her sorry for the miscommunications, that it was no problem and I handed her my card again to run it through. She comes back with my receipt pending a signature, I sign and even leave 2$ gratuity and tell her sorry for her inconvenience once again only for her (the manager) to bring my food back and interrogate me as to why I was trying to "STEAL" from her establishment. How do you come serve me my food with an insult after I just paid for it and left gratuity? What MANAGER conducts herself in such a way? Never in my life have I experienced something so assonine. "Becky" the so called "manager" of that's even her real name hasn't even the slightest bit of professionalism. Never In my life have I ever been so disrespected by a manager nonetheless. We will never return but we will proudly go to another surf taco unless this surf taco gets new management. Horrible experience. She took something as simple as an employee to customer miscommunication and turned it to accusations and insults to a customer that was being nothing less than overly cooperative. Worst dining experience I've ever had and shocked that it happened at surf taco of all places.
(1)David S.
Solid beach food very busy location so food is turned over and fresh. Service is great. Tried the buffalo calamari, it's was very good
(3)Alexia G.
I came here only to find complaining parents, screaming and crying children. I didn't mind the children but all of the adults around me (three families) were so negative. Seems to attract these families. The guacamole was delicious (have to to give them that). I liked how each burrito came with chips. Two burritos, side of guacamole, and one iced tea came to $23.00 (not bad). My boyfriend would give SURF TACO four stars. I would have maybe even given four but I was EXTREMELY sick after I ate a shrimp burrito on on Friday. I was excited to have fish in a beach town in a place that's known to have fresh seafood. Sometimes you get a bad batch. I should have sent it back (I was questioning it as I was eating) but didn't because I was in denial while thinking of the positive reviews I read.
(3)Jess P.
I am a big fan of Surf Taco. Whenever I'm down the shore, I always try to make a stop at a Surf Taco nearby because the food is so good. This was my first time at this location and the next time I'm @ Point Pleasant, I definitely will come back. The restaurant space is pretty big. There are two small tables outside for use as well. When I went, it was pretty packed and very busy with people eating in as well as taking out food. Luckily, my boyfriend and I were able to get seats pretty quickly. Due to the high volume of people and orders being taken, the wait time was a little long, but nothing too bad. I ordered the surf taco and a beef taco. Both were delicious. The fried fish in the surf taco is seasoned very well and had a great taste to it. The fresh cilantro and pico de gallo on top was great and tasted so good with the fish. I highly recommend this taco, it was one of the better fish tacos I've had. The beef taco is much more similar in taste, but by all means that does not mean it's not good. The beef has amazing flavor to it and it works so well with the salsa and cheese they put on top. I had a bite of my boyfriend's aloha wrapped which is teriyaki chicken, sesame seeds, pineapple, jack and cheddar cheeses, onions, and lettuce. The teriyaki sauce tasted really yummy but I'm not sure how I'd feel about having the pineapple. He finished it though, so i'm assuming it was good. All of their orders come with chips and they have a mini salsa bar. I'm not a big fan of their salsas. I had to pick between them all, I'd say the mild one is the best. The service at this particular location is also really good, considering how busy they got and the prices are great. The total for our order was under $20. I say, skip the overpriced boardwalk food and take the drive over to Surf Taco!
(4)H.V. P.
The service was very quick. They have young employees, roughly in the early to mid 20s--if that is a factor. They have a great soda machine like at Five Guys, where you can mix tons of flavors I ordered the combo #4 which consisted of a surf taco, maverick chicken burrito, chips and a soft drink--roughly $11. The burrito was very meh...the chicken was dry and the use of cabbage didn't make it any better. The surf taco (battered fish) was really good. I would recommend just getting a couple of those.
(3)Nobuyuki S.
I love fish tacos. I've eaten them in California and I've eaten them in Florida. I've probably eaten too many. The fish tacos weren't even close (flour tortillas, really?) to California's or Florida's. The restroom was the best thing about the place because I was sick after the first one. It didn't taste very good, and it wasn't like I was sick ahead of time. I returned from the restroom, got my drink and the basket and tossed the rest of my food. $11 down the drain, so to speak. The person who took my order was friendly and helpful, as was the person who delivered my food.
(1)Pat M.
Always a solid meal and this time the chips were even warm which is always a nice extra. Only bad thing is that my dad and I ordered burritos and they fell right apart for both of us. Of course I wouldn't have said anything cause it was just a little annoying, the food was still real good butttt the manager/owner was walking around. In his defense he said we should have told them and they would have re-wrapped it. That's something nice to say but maybe after you should say sorry someone messed up folding it. I know we caught him off guard since everyone was busying saying how great the food is but I ordered a burrito and now a bowl meal. I always come here, I'll just have to order something else next time.
(4)Bruno F.
Great Tacos
(4)Bill W.
Always good quick healthy great vibes casual off the beach or in from work never a worry.
(5)John V.
Good fresh tasty food with good serving sizes. I have been to Surf Taco twice and both times enjoyed it. The burritos are very fresh, but lacking a bit on flavors. I mixed the 3 salsas (all except the verde) and added it to the burrito and the flavor really popped. The first time at Surf Taco the verde salsa was very bla. The second time, it was amazing and by far my favorite. It goes to show they make their food fresh though. And plus you get chips (and salsa) with your meal, so a burrito and chips is sure to fill you up.
(4)John L.
1) Very good burritos. I would say they edge out Tito's Burritos though I am a fan of both. 2) Ingredients taste very fresh! I had a Jenk's chicken burrito this week and the grilled chicken chunks were moist and had good flavor. 3) Great state-of-the-art soda machine from Coke. 4) This place is a jammed scene in the summer, what else can you expect really. it reflects on how popular their food is. It's a family scene here. Particularly in summertime, it is a good idea to call ahead for takeout.
(4)Carol H.
The main thing about this place: Bland food. The black beans were not seasoned. Rice was completely plain. The tacos were not good. The tortilla was falling apart. The cabbage needs to be flavored. The fish in the tacos were over fried and greasy. The chicken in the tacos were spiced but nothing else in the taco was. There's 4 levels of salsa. Mild, verde, baja, hot. I don't ever add hot sauce to my food because I'm a wimp but even the "hot" salsa to me was barely hot.
(1)BJ K.
This place was aight. Surf taco was decent but the garlic shrimp taco was eh. Chill vibe and connect 4 to play while you wait. A little pricey for a mediocre meal overall
(3)John D.
One of my favorite things about coming down the shore (besides the relaxed vibes and hanging with friends on the beach) is Surf Taco. If you like spicy...get the Buffalo Soldier. I have tried a lot of Buffalo Chicken wraps in my day...nothing compares to this one.
(5)Robert M.
Ehhh at best...food isn't great but it's not horrible either. The mahi mahi tacos are the best. Salsa bar is a plus but other than that the food was just ok. I must've hyped this place up in my head or something because it just didn't live up to my expectations. The gold standard in taco joints is Taqueria Downtown in JC, and this place isn't even in the same ballpark as Taqueria.
(3)Monika D.
This happens a lot to me: I eat too much. This happens very rarely to me: I eat just enough but then feel very full for the rest of the day and night and straight through the next morning. WTF, Surf Taco? Is your food made out of those magic little sea monkeys that expand to 10x their size in water? I had two mahi-mahi tacos as part of a combo meal - comes with some chips, rice and beans. Tacos were regular size and very tasty with just enough fish in each. Enjoyed some chips with all 4 salsa bar offers (btw: the "hot" one, not hot at all so don't fret and dig in!) and then I just picked at my rice and beans which, honestly, were nothing special and I really didn't need the combo meal at all but that's what happens when you order with your eyes and not your stomach! So I still had a lot left on my plate when I started to feel extremely full. This was at 1pm. It's the next day and I'm still full. I guess you can say that meal was a 3-for-1 since I haven't had dinner or breakfast since. Maybe I'd give this place more stars if I could actually think about lunch today. But nope, still can't look at food.

Surf Taco is perfectly fine, but nothing to go out of your way for. I really like fish tacos. When I lived in California, I ate them at least once a week. It's tough to find halfway decent ones living in New Jersey. Surf Taco is better than halfway decent, but only to the point of just plain decent. I eat here about once a year, when I come to Bay Head, and I've had a few things off the menu. The surf taco is nice, though I usually like my fish tacos without breading. The garlic shrimp tacos are a little bland. The chips are not crispy and flavorless. The baja salsa at the salsa bar is very flavorful, without being too spicy. The crispy tacos work better than the soft. And make sure to get napkins! Extra points for the atmosphere, though. It looks like a surf shop and has flyers for great events in the neighborhood. They play good music (Mumford and Sons, and other laid back stuff). I understand that I'm damning this place with faint praise, but that's the facts. If you're in the neighborhood and in the mood for fish tacos, they'll hit the spot. But don't go out of your way.

I like this Surf Taco location. It's much larger than all of the others and serves alcohol. I've found the food isn't quite on par with the Point Pleasant location but it's still good. The service is quick and friendly. There's even an upstairs lounge. You can't go wrong here.

This place is awesome!!!! I like the food here better than the one on hooper. The hot salsa looks terrifying however it's freakin awesome! The place was crowded but the service was still fast. My beef tacos were off the chain! The soda machine is like no other that I have ever seen before with an amazing amount of selections. 5 stars for great food and service well worth the parking ticket I'm probably gonna have on my truck when I walk back to it.

eehh...that sums this place up for me. Nothing out of this world, and the prices were pretty high considering they gypped me on the protein (order some sort of chicken wrap and literally got 2 or 3 thin strips while the rest was lettuce).

Cutest, funky little place....such a beachy, laid back ambiance it's just the perfect spot for filling the belly post a beach day! Food was really good for what you pay....I ordered the mini quesadilla which came with side order of chips (which were warm and crunchy.....yum yum) and the Thai salad special (minus teriyaki chicken). Simple yet fulfilling quesadilla, delish salad! My friends enjoyed their meals, though two felt could use some more flavor....they still liked. It's wonderful Mex.....I would love it if there was one near me.

After running a 24-hour race in Jersey, Mexican food seemed like just the thing to refuel. This place was just down the street from the house we were renting, so an army of us ventured over. Given that it was December in Jersey, the place was empty. The tacos, however, were damn good (I mean, it could also be because I was starving after running for that long. who knows.) One minor complaint is that the shrimp tacos had a substantial spicy kick to them, which wasn't apparent when ordering. For most, this would be awesome. But for a spice wimp like myself, it got to be a bit unpleasant. I imagine this place is packed in the summer. Good food, cheap, and quick.

I love Surf Taco! The food and the atmosphere are awesome. Silverton and Point Pleasant Beach are my favorite locations. Both locations are always busy, but service is fast and your food is always fresh and delicious. The homemade salsa is so yummy. I'm only brave enough to get mild, but its cool and crisp flavor goes great with their tortilla chips. My favorite menu items include: rice & black beans, chicken tacos, chicken taquitos, the Max Dip, and more! If you really want to see something special, check out the new soda machine. It offers about 3 million choices and my son loves it. It's fun to watch people who can't figure out how to use it.

We ate lunch here twice while on vacation, and were happy with the food. I ordered just a plain veggie burrito and my husband ordered the fish burrito both days. We also got an order of their guacamole, which was very good. The burritos tasted fresh and definitely hit the spot. I would have liked just a little more flavor/seasoning added to mine, but other than that it was very good. Fun to play Connect Four while you're waiting for your food, too!

A Jersey Shore staple - healthy choices, fresh ingredients and fun atmosphere. Be sure not to skip over the salsa bar - Verde is my favorite.

Louis R's 1st day at the JerZ shore - ::takes off shirt and kicks off flip flops:: ::plays volleyball for a couple of hours:: ::puts on shirt and slips on flip flops:: ::plays flip cup for a couple of hours:: ::hooks up with one of the girls he's playing with to grab some tacos for dinner:: ::pays $35 to the tanned blonde cashier hottie:: ::eats 3 portions of chips and salsa (picks both red and green sauces):: ::watches his date eat 2 garlic shrimp tacos and eats 4 mahi-mahi fish tacos:: ::walks with date back to his beach house:: ::takes off shirt, trunks and kicks off flip flops:: (seewhatididthere) No, New Yorkers, you don't have Surf Taco. Don't come here and pollute my stomping grounds.

The surf taco, taco is deelicious. The cod is tempura'd to perfection. Also , the Hawaiian salad with chicken, pineapple, and blue cheese crumbles is highly addictive...add some avocado. Waffle fries round out a perfect meal.

Plain and simple... the rock it! And with their fresh salsa's it makes for the perfect meal. Only thing I wish is that there were more places to park and sit. This place get's BUSY! But it's all worth it in the end.
