Last year after a nice canoe trip at Cranford Canoe Club, my son and I stopped by Urban Burger. Had a terrific lunch. On our way home, we passed by Mooyah and resolved to give them a try. Fast forward a year. Another canoe trip. Mooyah for lunch. Casual looking place not unlike Smashburger or Five Guys. That should have been a clue that I would not be getting my burger at my desired temperature. Friendly guy took our order. Three dogs for my son. Mooyah burger rare for me with crispy onions and bbq sauce. Large fries. Food was ready quickly. My son loved his hot dogs. The fries were great. My burger, a rather thin affair, unfortunately was cooked well done. Is it too much to ask to get a rare burger?? i just wish someone behind the counter said, "we don't cook them that way." Very sad. If your restaurant's promotional literature trumpets, Gourmet/ Better Burger, then respect the customer and cook the meat to the customer's specs. End rant. The whole wheat bun and toppings were excellent. Urban Burger is right down the road. I'll be returning there.

Mooyah lost a customer tonight. I had been assured in the past that my son could eat there and tonight not a sole in the place could speak to their gluten free items or cross-contamination prevention efforts. They messaged the manager, but didn't get very far. Oh, and the fries he'd eaten last time, yeah...seems they were the cause of his getting sick that time. They are, in fact, cross-contaminated. Never again.

Good food, atrocious service. Tonight they lost a customer. No one but myself and a woman and her son were in the restaurant. I place my order for take out and then wait. More people come in, I see meals being prepared and handed out. After 10 minutes, I finally go over to to pick up area, I look at the few items on the grill (none which look like mine) and ask about my meal. They hadn't even started it. They prepared 6-7 other meals and hadn't started mine. I wasn't waiting any longer so I got a refund and left. If that was my first issue with service at the Garwood Mooyah, I likely would've just waited. Unfortunately it was my fourth such issue. First online order I placed, I arrive for pickup at the specified time (actually past my time) and they hadn't made any of the 3 meals I ordered. I waited 10 mins and had my meals. What's the point of ordering ahead?!?! Brutal. Second online order, I specify black bean burger wrap, black bean burger on bun, 2 cheeseburgers. I get home... No black bean burger in lettuce wrap. I paid for everything but had to return to the restaurant to get a credit back for the missing burger. How convenient. Third time, same exact order... I get one black bean in lettuce but three cheeseburgers... Again, not what I ordered. All these orders were please through the app mind you. So the fourth time is the charm. You left me hanging once again. Goodbye Mooyah!

Totally impressed! I thought this place was going to be average and boring but the food was very good, my burger was perfectly cooked, tasty salty fries, and wonderfully fresh toppings. I would come back any time!

Stopped by for a late lunch, as i have a meeting in the area. Place had a few customers, and only 1 person on line. I ordered the burger with the meal (comes with fries and a drink). on the burger, i had lettuce, tomatoes, american cheese, pickles and jalapeños, and their version of 1000 island dressing. Burger was great... cooked well, nice flavor and juicy. Fries were ok... they had a nice flavor, but had a little bit of an after taste. For the drink, the only diet they had was the caffeine free coke... which i am not a fan of. Definitely go for the burgers!

First off, I almost slipped and fell on the way in as the tile was very slippery. The fresh baked bun for the burger was the best part of the hamburger. The fries although fresh and hot were very greasy. I ordered a double cheeseburger combo and it came to $10.58. That's a fairly decent price, however the quality was lacking. Pros: Very clean, nicely decorated, bright place. Pricing is pretty good. Bathroom and store was very clean. Service was prompt and friendly. Very good, soft roll/bun. Free toppings. Cons: Greasy French fries. Double burger was lacking meat Meat was lacking any real flavor. Diced onions instead of sliced. Lack of diet soda choices. Only had caffeine free diet coke and diet cherry zero. Burger literally fell apart while eating it. They bring food to your table. Extremely slippery tile floor. If feet are wet from rain you will slip and slide. Watch out!! Sadly I was very disappointed with the over all experience. If I could I would have given it 2.5 stars. Many of the other burger places are much better. Examples include the Shake Shack, which is very, very good and the shakes rule there. Burgers are top notch as well.

i originally gave mooyah 5 stars when i first reviewed it. The food was great and worth the wait. I am changing my review to 2 stars because of a terrible experience i had with both the service and the food (not being able to find my order that i had placed online... then finally finding it, only to get home and notice that there was no cheese on my cheeseburger and the burger was so overcooked it was barely edible). I wrote a complaint to their website and was told i would be contacted further regarding the experience. This was WEEKS ago and i have not been contacted by anyone from mooyah. I am not looking for any compensation, but at least an acknowledgement of my complaint. Since smashburger in Clark is now open, i have been getting my burgers there instead.

Love this spot for a lunch burger! I work nearby in Elizabeth and there aren't that many choices for food much less a good burger. I love all the choices and I especially LOVE that I can get my deliciously healthy burger wrapped in lettuce!! Their online ordering is great but I wish I could use a gift card online. Even when you order there they are generally quick with your food. I have yet to try their shakes because I can't not get the burger! If you get a salad instead of fries it's a good portion and it's actually better than most garden salads at other restaurants. TIP: they also have great deals and you can occasionally get a free burger! You definitely get one when you sign up for alerts so make sure you do!

Dripping with fake butter . Only went once so willing to give it another try but with Loaded open again not sure if that will ever actually happen.

The food here is pretty good. Fries are well cooked and tasty but the service is terrible. It took almost 20 minutes for me to get an order of fries to go despite there being one other customer in the store. Cashier was also very rude to me and made several comments about my shirt. Wouldn't go back unless I could pick up my order in a drive thru.

Good burger, a little pricey for a burger. But good quality beef and juicy. Dig the multi-grain roll. Unfortunately I'm not a fan of fresh cut fries unless u are eating them right away, when u get it to go they get limp. U have to order ahead it takes forever when u order walking in the door. Great atmosphere has that burger joint feel. Staff was friendly but a little lost when I ask for add on to burgers. Must have been first day. Overall great place for the community should do better than the Quiznos that was originally there.

Just came back from mooyah & it was gooood! I had the black bean veggie burger (YUM!) a little spicy though but it was still super good! The girl on the register was so nice & sweet! I just the menu had more of a selection but i guess you can't expect much out of a burger place. The burgers are to die for, they are so juicy and soft. Although today my black bean veggie burger was coming off the bun! The burger patty was wayyy too big for the bun which was a downside. My parents love coming here, especially for the freshly made sweet potato fries ! I have had their shakes, a little too heavy but sooo good! I recommend this place a lot but bring an extra set of clothes because the smell of the food sticks onto your clothes like glue!

After waiting for what feels like years for it to open, I only needed one visit to say I'm sold. I think this place is better than 5 Guys because there are better toppings and tastier fries. The milkshakes were just ok. It hurts my heart to say that, but they weren't shakes really. They tasted like soft serve ice cream so it was too heavy to have with my meal. Bummer, I know. It gets really hectic and everyone is moving fast to get things done but service can still be a tad slow. But honestly, it's no big deal to me.

Check this place out next time you are in the Gatwood area. The burger was fantastic. Toppings were perfect. I can't decide which fries were better the regular or sweet potato....both were great. My favorite thing though was my strawberry shake. How real treat! Restaurant is clean and service was good! I highly recommend when you're looking for a solid burger.

Good stuff! Burgers are cooked to order, with a variety of free and not free toppings. Place your order at the counter, have a seat, and the staff will bring you your order when it's done. It does take a little while for the food to come, but it's better than having a burger that's been sitting around for 15 minutes. Fries are good, not too salty, but like with most places, they give you way too many. A regular burger, fries and drink will run you about $12, so it's hardly expensive.

  • Jeffrey S.

Yeah, normally I write a detailed review because I want to separate the good from the bad and be sure people (and the owners) understand why I say what I say and that I'm not just trolling. But this place was simply very good. Not the best burger I've ever had, like it says on the video loop--but very good. It was clean, the tables weren't mashed together, the burgers were juicy and fresh tasting, the fries were better than standard fast food, although a bit too greasy, and the young lady who took my order was friendly, with an actual smile on her face. I didn't have a drink but the selection looked impressive. The selection of toppings is pretty generous and they have enough non-burgers to appeal to a wide audience. The price was also not outrageous and coupons are available, though I didn't use one. Garwood and Cranford each have a supposedly "gourmet" burger place, and this is as good as either one, but without all of the pretentious affectations. I will definitely go back.

I came here on my birthday back in May. Shakes you got to spoon it's thick. Went back with my BF got sick even though I ordered the same thing. Will not be back.

I've been going to Mooyah since they opened and fell in love with their burgers. the meat is juicy and the bread is fresh. I am also a fan of the super long list of free toppings to pick from. I recently ordered the black bean burger and now I am addicted. I went in expecting a dry lifeless veggie burger and I was totally wrong. it was so flavorful and juicy I didn't even miss the meat. the only draw back to mooyah is their regular fries to me they taste like cardboard. because of this I decided to order the sweet potato fries and they were better.

I'm posting this extensive review by my husband here, because on mooyah.com , both feedback forms were not working, and there were no alternative ways to contact the Corporate Mooyah offices. In December 2014 I first visited Mooyah burger in Garwood, NJ. A good friend told me several times how good the burgers were and after finally trying one I was not disappointed. The burger was so good in fact that I'd decided after the first visit that 5 Guys was out and I'd be going to Mooyah from now on for my occasional burger. I went a second time, once again being totally satisfied with what I believed was as good a burger as I'd ever had. I raved to my family and friends that Mooyah was by far the best burger around. On January 12th my wife and I went to Garwood to treat ourselves to a delicious Mooyah burger. Unfortunately the third time was not the charm. I was so thoroughly disappointed. The service was slow, which is certainly tolerable when waiting for something so good. When our burgers and fries arrived, they were lukewarm at best. The cheese on the burgers was not melted. My wife had noticed an employee begin to bring the trays over, then place them down. He did not pick them up and bring them over for more than 5 minutes. We explained that the food was not hot, and requested that they remake the order. They agreed to do so. We sat and waited 15 more minutes. When the food arrived, I was shocked to see that the bottom of the burgers were burnt. They apparently put the original burgers back on the grill and served them to us again ! Moreover, the freshly baked, soft buns that I'd looked forward to were toasted and burnt (particularly the edges). It seems as if they'd given us stale buns and tried to mask the staleness by toasting them. I'm sure of this because the middle of the bun was not very toasted, and was completely stale. At this point I was on site for close to 45 minutes and extremely hungry. The staff seemed in over their heads, and we noticed other patrons having problems with their orders. We decided to take the high road and just eat. I felt thoroughly compelled to write this commentary on my experience, not so much to receive a voucher for a free meal but because I am so disappointed to see something so good get so bad so fast. My experience was not simply a little off that third visit, it was completely different. So bad in fact that I'm not sure I'll go back. To have a patron raving about your product while looking forward to going back now not think he'll ever go back is a big problem for the Mooyah franchise. The staff working that nite will completely sink that business site in 2 weeks.

I came back to MOOYAH and asked for water. Found out they don't give out any free water. You have to pay for it. Ridiculous! I had to rate it a star less now. This is a simple and cheap fix, MOOYAH. Help us out!

  • Anna F.

Mooyah is ok. The burgers are so salty and really nothing to write home about. The fries are always soft even if you ask for them to crisp them up. They also pour way too much salt on the fries. The seasoning on the sweet potato fries is overkill and just not right. The grilled cheese is ok. I think this food is way overpriced. We tried them because we received 4 free meals when they opened and tried them three more times with free offers. Hasn't improved. **Now if you're in the mood for a real burger, then the WHITE ROSE in Roselle is it. I love the double double cheese burger with everything. It is absolutely the most delicious burger around. Add the cheese and gravy fries and it's booyah (great joy, not the soup)!!

Good burgers and fries. Too slow when they are busy. 25 mins for 1 burger and fries. Yikes.

  • John W.

Alaways wanting to support local ,especially Garwood, heard about Mooyah so we tried... Burger lacked the beef ,was greasy, and had to seach for the cheese though it might have been omitted. Fries were soggy and greasy to match. Re-visit? NaH...

I love the variety of options they have! The portions are big but the food is a little greasy. The staff is patient and really friendly.

What a joyful surprise! From the first sweet girl who helped me at the register to the manager, Anthony , who got me scissors to open my phone charger, this place was so perfect. It was almost like a romantic 19050's version of a business. Everyone was genuinely happy and seemed to be really enjoying their work. There were a few elder gentlemen and many young all working together like a family. One man, Tom, said after serving me my sweet potato fries, "eat these now but their the ends so I'm making you another order to go." They were the best sweet potato fries I've ever had, dusted with cinnamon and cumin and so perfectly fried. I wish I lived in Cranfird just so I could come back to this beautifully run business. Hats off Mooyah!

  • G B.

like some reviews said the burger fell apart as i was eating it. the bun was kinda soggy. not sure if it was too greasy or cuz i took it home. i dont live far maybe 10 mins away. but i had the mooyah style with cheese, lettuce, pickles, onions, sauce, cheese. it was very good minus the messiness and the soggy bun. fries, sweet potato fries, and onion rings were kinda greasy too but hello its fried food ppl! they were good too. i would buy wut i had again but maybe get fewer toppings and sauce on the side. maybe that will make a difference. i love how fresh the meat is. i would go back in the future.

It's vary rare that you can you get a really good blue cheese burger anymore. Who remembers H.A. Winston's Westfield Burger (Blue Cheese) on 22? MOOYAH piles on the blue cheese and cooks the burger to perfection where the heat from the meat reaches that perfect temperature that just gets the blue cheese melting. Even better with bacon! -1 star for the fries. They could have been better.

    (4)
  • Jennifer R.

The service is bad. Burgers are okay. Fries are okay. It was way better when it first opened. I only go there for the kids meals now because my daughter who has a soy and egg allergy can have their chicken and fries which is saying something...because at most places she can't. The floor is always slippery so be careful. Just also really under- impressed with the service.

Good burgers and Fries. Comparing Mooyah to other fast-food burger joints, I'd have to say that this place comes out near the top. It's simply no contest as far as the big, national chains are concerned. For about $2 more, you get a freshly made, generously topped burger on a very good roll with decent fries and a good drink selection at Mooyah. Compared to similar chains like 5 Guys or Uber Burger, it's a closer fight. On balance, I think Mooyah wins based on a better overall product (bun and toppings) and a slightly nicer vibe if you choose to eat in. As far as service - I was there on a moderately busy Monday at lunch hour. Ordering was straightforward, and the meal was nicely boxed up when I got it. They could make condiments easier to get for the to-go crowd, but overall, it was a good experience.

    (4)
  • Jenn T.

Better than 5 Guys & 25 Burgers. Fresh baked bun, made to order burger, free toppings...was even able to get whole wheat bun. Fries were good. Will def go back again. Didn't have a shake but they looked great. Even had special seasonal flavors for the shakes.

    (4)
  • Ed C.

The food is good. Better than 5 guys for sure because of their variety and options. It could be the area but you can expect to wait a bit for this "fast" food. I'll definitely be back but if you're hungry to the point of no patience this may be the place to avoid. They're still new so maybe when that dies down it won't be an issue.

We had take-out from Mooyah last Monday after the snow storm that wasn't. I ordered on line and was pleasantly surprised that the burgers were ready on time and that the order was correct. When we got home the burgers and fries were delicious, better than 5 Guys. The only thing that could be better is the way they make the milkshakes, it's very sloppy and the guy making them used many napkins from the dispenser on the customer side of the counter to wipe off his fingers and then all of the splashes and drips from the outside of the plastic cup. Kind of icky. I suggest getting an old fashioned mild shake maker w the large tin cup and pour the completed product into the plastic cup.

  • Casey U.

The service was nice enough. My family and I all signed up for the text messages from Mooyah because it offered a free burger with the purchase of fries and a drink, so our purchase wasn't all that expensive. They offer three different ways of getting a free burger too. My family all got cheese burgers and loaded up on all of our favorite (free) toppings. Though we all got the basics, our burgers ended up different. However, we all agreed on one thing. The burger is very salty! It's like they dumped a container of it on the burger... There was barely any salt on the fries, but the burger had way way too much. @.@

I am addicted to these juicy Burgers. Especially love the bread/buns they are so fresh and fluffy against the juicy meat. I add jalapeños to mine. Delicious!!!

I finally tired Mooyah after passing it so many times. I'm so glad I did because I love this place! The burgers are some of the best around.

  • Maria S.

Tried it for the 1st time and it was made perfectly. Signed up for the MOOYAH club so I can go back and get another burger. So many choices to add to your burger. Give it a try

    (5)
  • Jav D.

First time going there, the burgers were pretty good and juicy. The French fries were good also. I had a strawberry shake. It's an ice cream shake not a regular fruit shake. I will go back again,

  • Daniel P.

After what seemed like years, Mooyah finally opened about two months ago. Overall, I was impressed with the quality and taste of the burger, especially for the price, and it is definitely better than Urban Burger a few blocks down in Cranford. Price is very affordable and a better option than going to McDonalds or Burger King, which are both a few steps away.

    (4)
  • Elvi V.

Have never had a bad experience here. Service is always friendly and when you have a burger craving this will satisfy it. Better than any fast food burger any day. Sign up for their burger club to get offers!

  • K T.

I very much enjoy their food, better than 5 Guys, BUT, there are 2 things I HATE about going there: 1. the candy on display a the entrance drives me nuts because my kids beg for it every time. 2. no water dispenser on the soda machine? what?

    (3)
  • Jennifer C.

I think this place has better burgers than five guys and waaay better fries. The choices are endless on the toppings. The only downside is the time it takes to get your food.

    (4)
  • Brittany S.

I ordered a black bean burger and sweet potato fries yesterday and got FOOD POISONING. Obviously I will never be going back there... Annoyed I missed out on my plans and disgusted at the unsanitary conditions.

I pass Mooyah every day on my commute to work, I had heard good things about it from friends so I thought I would give it a go on my day off. Great atmosphere, came here with my two kids the other day for lunch and we all loved it. The woman behind the counter was so patient and kind even when my daughter changed her mind on what kind of milkshake she wanted twice. Food was delicious, even my picky kids finished all of their food. I had a turkey burger with bacon and made it a combo. Their shakes are just as good too! Clean bathrooms, nice decor. We'll be returning for sure.

  • Eric J.

Burger was very average and the bun too soft. Wouldn't go back and prefer the taste of Five Guys better - both on burger and fries. Meh!

    (3)
  • Dee P.

Tried this place out and being a vegetarian- I was completely disappointed. Slow service is one thing, BUT they use the same gloves/utensils to cook the veggie burger as they do the meat. That is a serious problem. I have been to other places where they actually clean the part of the grill and change their gloves and utensils when handling vegetarian food-that is called customer service, which Mooyah lacks. Not sure if I would go back or recommend it to others.

  • David G.

This place is very disorganized during dinner. We haven't been for lunch. Expect to wait 40 minutes or more. They can't keep up with the volume and they are constantly yelling at each other for more toppings, looking around confused. Hopefully all of that changes. With that said the burgers are delicious and we keep coming back for them anyway. They are better than the other fancy burger places around.

    (3)
  • Clare C.

Me and two of my friends came today as i paid for one. They were 2 things on the receipt a burger and fries, and fries for myself. The place was not busy at all. And of course messed up the order though. My friend got his burger after 18minutes and i couldn't even get my fries....just fries. My friend actually yelled at one of the workers and he yelled back at my friend! Then goes back to work and was obviously talking about us. Then another girl is asking for my receipt even though my order is on the screen. I dont understand how it was extremely difficult just to get fries, but it's even harder to understand why i worker would start yelling back at a customer who was frustrated.

  • Rafael O.

My family of four visited the restaurant. The staff was friendly and helpful. We ordered 4 burgers, 2 shakes, and an order of fries. The fries were cold. The shakes we're not fully mixed. I ordered my burger with avocado and bacon. The bacon did not seem to be any better than Mickey D's down the street. The bill for the meal was $45.00. The best thing comment that my family had was "the bread was nice and fluffy". Go to Mickey D's.

  • Nela D.

Great burgers with high quality beef and lots of toppings. The veggie burger is made in- house with black beans and also very good. You can get a soft, freshly baked whole wheat bun. Sweet potato fries are delicious. They just need to work out some of the service kinks.

  • Diane M.

My boyfriend and I went here and ordered burgers, fries and a shake. Our shake came out much earlier than our burgers which I didn't like because I prefer to have my sweet as a dessert. Our burgers took FOREVER to come out. They were yummy burgers, but nothing spectacular. The place was extremely crowded but it is still a new opening and it also was a Friday night. This place was also swarmed with little kids whose parents didn't really watch them. That was an annoyance. I would give this place a second chance months from now when it isn't so new anymore.

    (3)
  • Jeanette M.

I really do love the burgers! They are delicious. I have to say that I am very very frustrated with the service. Numerous times I ordered to go and when I get home the burgers are missing toppings or just wrong. Bacon is an extra cost. Twice I got home and no bacon! Today I made sure to ask before I left. Then I get home and my burger didn't have the mooyah sauce I ordered. I'm very annoyed.

Good service and tasty burgers. They have many options with healthy choices available such as no bun, turkey and veggie. Clean environment. Parking available. The burgers are juicy but not laden with grease. They offer sweet potato fries as well. I hear the shakes are awesome. Better than urban burger in Cranford.

    (4)
  • Renee V.

We went to this place after looking for a good burger place nearby. The burgers and shakes were awesome and so were the fries. The place was packed but moved along quickly. People came in with lists of what they wanted on each burger so take your time when deciding what you want because there are a lot of options.

  • Jeff C.

New go to burger place. Great fresh cooked burger and the fries were perfect. My wife and I went and shared a burger and fries. They asked if we were sharing when we placed out order and offered to cut the burger in half, that has never happened in a top restaurant, let alone a burger FF burger joint. They go the extra mile with customer service, a lost art. Try it !

    (4)
  • Alison N.

Great burgers! Lots of different topping options - most of which are free. You pay extra for bacon, avocado and cheese if you don't get a cheeseburger. Food was good- ambiance not so much. It's a bit too noisy and the teenagers were all over the place. We are hoping it doesn't turn into a teen hangout. Interesting dust/spice in the sweet potato fries. Chocolate shake could've been more chocolatey but it was smooooth and cold. On the expensive side for burgers and such but I'd go back!

    (4)
  • Isaiah G.

A little disappointed that my burger was undercooked after the lady at the door gave me a lecture about how this place made the best well- done burgers in the area...and they messed up my toppings but at least the sweet potato fries were delicious.

  • Jay F.

Very good, fresh fast food. Black bean veggie burger is excellent and the burger is what all fast burgees should be. Unfrozen, moist and with whole wheat bun. Could be a bit bigger but typical fast food size.

  • KC B.

OMG. We could eat here every day.... And our daughter really DOES! Especially awesome for those that have food allergies... They cook hand-cut fries in 100% canola oil (no soy!) and they are delicious! For the gluten-free crowd they make your burger an "iceburger", meaning a bun made of iceberg lettuce. It's too good to be true! The huge assortment of topping are incredible - including avocado, blue cheese, fried onions and more! The turkey burgers are great and are a great replacement for red meat. When they first opened the crowds were big but the staff here did their best to get through everyone. Now that the wrinkles of opening have been ironed out, the experience only gets better and better. I'm not kidding when I say my daughter and friends eat at least once per day there... And we love to join them!

had a good experience here. went during off hours (kids had a half day of school). not sure what it would be like on a friday night but this was a good time to go. had the double cheese and fries - very good portions and the burgers were great. its no shake shack or in and out but along the same lines.

Just drove out of my way to try a local spot and they are closed. Their hours say they are open at 1230 on a Sunday but they are not. Going to Five Guys instead.

Favorite burger place in the area. So many different options, I get a single mooyah cheese burger (double would be huge imo) with mooyah sauce (similar to shake shack sauce), lettuce, and these mini fried onion things (highly recommend these). Sweet potato fries and reg fries are both worth trying- If i had to pick one id choose sweet potato - both are seasoned with a great mix that includes old bay crab seasoning among other things based off the taste. Tried a few of the milk shakes, Cookie Dough is the best- I've never had a shake or ice cream for that matter that packed in so much cookie dough, its unreal. eat it with a spoon. Service is def worth noting as well. All the cooks/ order takers are very helpful and nice. And the service is as fast as your gunna get considering that they actually cook the meat after you order it. IF you wanna complain about how long it takes go to mcdonalds across the street and eat that shitty microwave mystery beef. ***They cook with coconut oil unlike 5 guys who uses peanut oil. So this is the perfect place for someone with allergies

The owner was very responsive to a customer service issue. It's a bit pricey and tends to be crowded, but the food is good and the parking is ample. (Hear that 5 Guys.. AMPLE).

Awful experience today. Waited 27 min for one small milkshake. I don't know if they forgot about it or what, but I was watching the preparer the entire time we were waiting, and it was clear she was not motivated to work, period. This was supposed to be a treat for a kid who just braved through a dentist appointment, and was due back in school. We were late to school and to work. I got to note that after I blew my lid off there, the manager apologized and comped some fries. But still, this is not okay.

I tried Mooyah for the first time yesterday, and while I agree with the other reviews that the burgers are very good, I left expecting more. The prices seem high for what you get and the portion sizes are on the small side. I will return on occasion, but I think there are better places for a burger and fries in the area. 2015 update - OK, this place has grown on me. I still think the prices are a tad high, but the staff friendliness, food freshness and iceberg wrap for the burger I just love. I visit every couple of months and have turned some friends on to the place too. I am upgrading my rating to 4 stars and might give it a 5 star rating with a few more excellent experiences! You should definitely give it a try.

MooYah is the newest hamburger joint in the Union County area. (More are promised to come) The burgers are fantastic. The fresh rolls really separate this burger from all the rest. The shakes are excellent!!! Will be coming back soon.

Allow me to explain how poor my experience at Mooyah was. First, I had heard really great things about it. Everyone around town and at school said it was really popular in other places and that it might even be better than five guys. I love five guys so I had to find out if Mooyah was a true rival. The ordering experience was fine but it seemed to take a while to get our food considering we weren't in a line when we ordered. When we finally sat down with our food I was stunned to find how few fries there were in my order. It seemed child sized, but I'll allow that since I'm used to five guys and their buckets and buckets worth of fries. I had the sweet potato fries and they were acceptable. The burger, though, was bad. It tasted like the sub-par backyard barbecue burger that your creepy uncle makes at the picnic you were forced to attend hoping that at least the food would be good, and yet it disappoints you. The bun was noticeably wet. You know, like when you microwave a burger and it becomes literally MOIST. It was disgusting. I actually had to dab it with paper napkins. The burger itself was cooked adequately I suppose, and the toppings were pretty much equivalent to five guys. Overall though, I did not enjoy the burger at all. Mid-meal I pointed out that the napkin dispenser advertised two combo meals for $14, but we had paid $22. The only explanation I could find for this would be the fries, which is ridiculous. You can't tell me that the minuscule cups of sweet potato fries make the food $8 more. We asked the girl who took our order about it and she said she didn't know, an answer we received a lot. So she said she would ask the manager, spoiler alert: she didn't ask the manager. She just went to the back of the restaurant and began to fill the lemonade container. We waited for 15 minutes. Nothing. So I went up to the cashier and asked another girl who also said she didn't know. She sent the manager. The manager explained that we ordered bacon on our burgers, but if you look at the add, the burger depicted has almost every topping offered on it. Also, bacon only costs $2 extra not $8. Then he explained about the fries so I told him that if I had known it would be $8 more we would have just had regular fries and it would have been nice to been notified of that difference. I showed him the picture of the burger in the ad, told him how mislead we felt, and we left. After this goose chase I didn't have it in me to demand a refund. Instead I would like to inform everyone to go to five guys for a better burger. If you want a milk shake maybe go to Mooyah but it might take you half an hour to get it and it could cost you an arm and a leg.

Would not return. Had to wait 25 minutes for 2 burgers and fries. Hamburgers were greasy to the point the bag leaked through and I had a huge grease stain on my pants from holding the bag in the car. The roll was mush on top from the grease and hard as a rock on the bottom. The sweet potato fries were too spicy and consisted of tiny pieces instead of string potatoes. Will never set foot in there again...back to loaded burger in garwood where you get a real burger made to order

Ive driven by this place a few times recently and wanted a quick burger for take out. Upon walking into this place I had about 6 typical Westfield self-important mothers hit me with their purses and 9 kids step on my feet without a single apology. Fine - not the burger places fault - seems crowded so there must be a large, educated demand, right? Wrong. I digress. About 20 minutes after my arrival I finally get a lazy, typical "NEEEEXT" by the girl at the register about to take my order, as she gazes off into space. she proceeds to ask me what I want and after she silently and rapidly closes my order and hands my receipt she decides its time to tell me that i have to pay extra for any toppings. Well then, thanks for letting me know its .50 extra for pretty much anything, let me re-order now and take another 5 minutes out of my life as more kids step and throw fries on me. 30 minutes later someone finally loudly screams my order number. It is so packed that i have to pretty much act as a running back dodging kids and obliviously rude mothers to get to the pick up register. I proceed to stand there for 7 minutes or so until they actually realize im there to pick up the food that was announced to be ready ages ago. Well, lets at least now hope the food was decent. It has to be after all that, right? WRONG AGAIN. The burger was a greasy disgusting mess. The sweet potatoe fries were more like sweet potato crust, disgusting and tasteless as well. It also cost me 15 dollars for a burger, the fries and a drink id consider too small for my toy chihuahua. Please steer clear of this place and thank me later. With all of the new burger chains out there that are actually good, I cant beleive somebody thought it was a good idea to open this massacre.

Recently went to the moo the double burger was tasty juicy a really good burger. Fries were also good I did not have the shakes but numerous people seem to be enjoying them. Service was friendly and well informed.

Food is actually pretty good for a grill style, reminds me of Smash Burger. I definitely think the staff is not properly trained or knowledge. The wait and errors are frequent. But as far as the food and environment they are A Ok.

Will not last the way it is. Much to long of a wait for food. While I was sitting there for 20 minutes I noticed that there was a person measuring the amount of French fries for each order. What I found amusing was that if the weight was over by 2 individual french fries was that he actually took them out of the order. What a contrast to 5 guys who gives you and over abundance of fries in the order. Don't get this wrong. I'm not saying they should give anything away but to take the time to accurately measure the number of fries to an order is silly. Anyway it's only a place for kids. As bad as 5 Guys is this place is worst

Good but could be better. I guess it just depends when you go into eat and what crew is working. I ordered a double cheeseburger with bacon and my usual toppings to go. When I got there there was someone waiting for their to go order and 10 min later another customer came in with a order he had placed online. It was about 8:00 pm no lines it looked fairly slow and was really quiet so you heard every argument the crew members had with each other which personally isn't a good look to me. I work at fast food spots like this and the only thing I kept thinking was I can easily do what they do faster, friendlier, and better. I left mooyah with my one order at like 8:45. When I finally got home and sat down to eat my burger was just a mess. It seemed as if the lady took out her frustration on my meal and they forgot my bacon which I paid extra for. Like I said I guess it just depends when you go there and whose working because I usually never have this bad of an experience but I will say this isn't the first time they've forgotten my bacon.

Ehh, for a burger joint, they really don't make great burgers. Went their and had one of the blandest burgers I've ever had. Apart from it being cold when it got to me, the patty wouldn't keep it's form, it was crumbling. The buns were tasteless and the fries were cold. The employees were nice but that's about they only thing.

When I saw the coming soon signage a few months back ..I was like 'ohhh boy, another fine upstart made to order burgery to give the local ones a bit of competition'..also mooyah..kinda reminds me of dogma's mooby's burgers.. and i was hoping it was going to be the coveted golden calf like it is in the kevin smith movies burger wise ..ok now heres the reality of our vist..it was more like MEH - YA. We ordered two burgers the 'mooyah way' and a medium 'cup' of sweet potato fries. had we seen the small sign about the 25 other free toppings you could put on your burger like sauteed shrooms i would have definitely gotten that..its burgers done conveyer belt style ala 5 guys..nothing close to loaded bbq or urban burger style in Garwood and cranford respectively. the person working the register taking our order was awesome and super nice, but it dawned on me after we got the bag in the car she never asked how we wanted the burgers cooked..oh shit. i guess we both screwed the pooch on that part, we should have said something..but some loudmouth hipster beiber haired kid was screaming in my ear to the person at the register about the burger he ordered 5 minutes prior..kind of harshing our burger mellow. the place was miserable with soccer moms (and Dads) and their irritating shrieking beiber hellspawn.. but enough of that.. ok..so here are the edible results..burger was just ok. cooked overly well done and the 'fresh' buns literally fell apart at first bite. and if there was mooyah sauce on this sammich, i certainly couldnt taste it so i have no idea if it was good or not..total bummer. the sweet potato fries were good..a bit on the soggy limpy side..oddly spicy too.. but that said loaded bbq's boardwalk basket o' fries have it all over these guys in terms of the yum. didn't try a shake but heard they are pretty good. so all this said would I return to mooyah? moo-be? but not for a while...in fairness they are relatively new and prolly haven't worked all the kinks out. I was just at loaded bbq the prior Saturday..and those guys are a hard act to follow. we were going to go to mooyah but they were having a private party that day and weren't open to the public. now was that an ominous portent of bad things to come.. perhaps? on second thought do your self a favor and yer gut a favor ..head up the road make a left and go to loaded bbq...or urban burger in cranford..ps: to the haughty taughty woman in the skin tight white see thru stretch pants..you are wayyy too long in the tooth not to be wearing any underwear..i'm seriously not trying to be mean about this..just sayin'..

Their are so many things to say about this specific restaurant. The burger has no real taste. It just tasted like meat with no seasoning. The fries tastes like they we're supposed to be grilled but they we're terrible. They had no flavor or special taste. My friend told me the chicken tasted very bland and bad. Overall the food was very bad it tasted like the food was supposed to be healthy but ended up being terrible.

Went there last night for a quick bite- you can't beat the price and quality. Unlike others who've posted reviews we were served very quickly and there were no issues or mistakes with our order in spite of it being quite busy. My girls loved the milkshakes though they truly drink more like a dessert than a food companion. I found the burgers and fries to be tasty and the girls behind the counter were super friendly and helpful. I was bummed to see that they didn't have a tip jar?! I never feel compelled to use one just because it's there but when someone does a good job it's nice to be able to give back (even In a small way) as a thank you for a job well done. We Will definitely be going back!

The worst burger I've ever had. This want to be 5 Guys fails. Slow service, tasteless food , and televisions so loud deaf people would complain about the high volume

Heard a lot of buzz since it opened and decided to check it out. Being a big Smashburger fan I was excited as the menu, layout, etc are very similar. Order time was quick and we waited 10-15 mins for the food. HANDS DOWN - one of the best burgers we've had in a long time. We will def be going back to Mooyah!!!!

After having lunch at Mooyah about an hour ago, I felt compelled to write my first review EVER. I decided to place my order online after having read reviews on Yelp that the wait was ridiculous. Upon walking into Mooyah, I saw a sign near the back which stated to "pick your order up here." As I stood there for 3 minutes, I realized no one was paying attention to me, and I proceeded to the register to ask about my order. The female worker at the register was accompanied by a male worker. When I proceeded to ask her about my order, I was cut off by the male worker who began to talk to her. I got annoyed, because that's obviously rude. After I finally asked for my order, she went to get it for me, and he decided to tell me that the pick up area was in the middle and pointed to where the girl was standing. Second time I was annoyed by this worker. Not to mention, why have a sign near the back that states "pick your order up here," when that's not where you pick your order up? After she handed my bag and cup to me, I walked to the back to fill my cup with a drink and get any condiments I needed. There wasn't any ketchup which I thought was strange being that they opened at 11am and I was there at 12pm. I walked back to the counter where unfortunately the same male worker attended to me, and I asked him for some ketchup packets. He reached under the counter and pulled out at least 20 ketchup packets with one hand and tried to put all of them in my hand!!! I told him I didn't need that many, took four, and walked out. At that point I was so annoyed by him and had a feeling my food was going to be just as bad as my experience. This is the point in the story where you think there is a twist, right? Wrong! The burger and fries were a disappointment. The fries were soggy and the burger lacked flavor. I'm baffled by other reviews on here stating that the burgers here are better than Five Guys. Five Guys is way better than Mooyah! Just save yourself the trip. It's not even worth it. I definitely won't be going back.

I love burgers of all kinds and I'm willing to give a new place a shot. My first mistake was going just because I had a coupon. My second mistake was not checking the Yelp reviews before I decided to go with 2 coworkers. Let's start at the ordering process. We got there about 12:05PM with no line to speak of but weren't able to order because apparently 2 call in orders were ahead of us. We waited a couple of minutes as our flustered counter girl tried to enter the orders. I then informed her that we have a limited time for lunch and could we order and then she could complete the call in orders after. I also said this wasn't a good first impression of the establishment. She called a coworker over to try to get through the call in order again but couldn't so she asked another take our orders. I gave my order to to the original flustered girl because she must have figured out how to enter the call in orders. I had a nice simple burger and shake. I asked if I could have it cooked a certain way and she said all the burgers were cooked well. Food took a little long but the shake was ready first. Shake was good. Burger was then ready and 2 bites in I realized they forgot my bacon. Not only on my burger but one of the guys with me as well. They did get us the missing bacon quickly. The burger reminded me of a Smashburger but not as good. Patties too thin and bun too big. Expensive for the amount of food you get. Burger and shake for $11.50, I won't be back coupon or not. I think I'll stick with 5 Guys, never disappointed when I go and I don't care if they don't serve shakes.

This place is awesome!!!! I just had a burger with the Mooyah sauce and it was a very pleasant surprise!!! Their large assortment of toppings had me feeling like a kid in a candy store! Plus their shakes made my meal the perfect combination of sweat and savory. I can't wait to come back and try their turkey burgers and salads! By the way, parking was a cinch!

More like Mooblah. I went here a few weeks okay because 1) I felt the need to try it out because of it being a new burger place in town & 2) I had a deal that I received via text message from their rewards system. First off, if you go expect to wait at least a half hour for your food. I waited nearly 45 minutes & from friends who have also eaten here, they have said the same. Perhaps this is because they are a new establishment & they are busy & the staff is still getting settled in, but either way, half way though the wait my boyfriend & myself were about to drive down the street to Urban Burger to get dinner. In retrospect, I wish this is what we have done. The food was nothing special. I had ordered the black bean burger with bbq sauce & some toppings. The flavor of the burger got boring after a while & the mushy consistency made it very difficult to eat. If I had gotten an actual burger maybe my eating experience would have been better, but I had a bite of my boyfriends meal (he got the cheeseburger loaded with toppings) & still it there was nothing that set that burger apart from any other one that I've eaten. We also order the sweet potato fries which were wayyyyy to over seasoned. I'm glad I did not pay full price for this & I don't see myself going back or recommending it to others. Do yourself a favor & take a drive down the street & enjoy a unique meal at Urban Burger instead.
