Ok I am not experts on Indian food but this is the most satisfying indian dinner buffet I ever had. Most of buffet I tried were having small selection due to too spicy/too authentic so not easy to eat or anlctualy not much variaty of food. Masala Art has good number of different dishes for dinner buffet and all the foods were tasty and edible. It's like more adjusted for American tastes. They gave me this wonderful Naan bread and it was the best I ever had. They only have the dinner buffet on Wednesday. I can't wait to try al la carte manu next time.

This place is better than most indian restaurants. Very fresh and fair pricing with decent sized portions. The chicken curry has a black peppery taste to it while the chicken vindaloo is more of a tomato base. Both are worth ordering. The tandoori chicken and chicken tikka masala were more on the mild side, still good though. I don't order lamb in indian restaurants, but the lamb okra (bhindi gosht) is pretty good. If you're within a 15 minute drive, I highly recommend this place.

I went here for dinner recently upon my girlfriend's recommendation and it was a wonderful experience all around! Exceptional service, friendly atmosphere, reasonable prices, and some of the best Indian food I have had anywhere. For starters, we ordered meat samosas, which were incredible: perfectly crisped on the outside, yet soft and warm on the inside. Far too often samosas are dry and taste like they have been sitting at the bottom of a freezer for months and reheated in a microwave. Definitely not the case here, you could tell they were cooked to order! Tamarind sauce was thick and sweet and paired well with the savory flavors of the ground lamb. I will order again, though I would like to sample some of their other soups and appetizer offerings, as well. For entrees, my girlfriend ordered the Chicken Tandoori Tikka and I ordered the Chicken Saagwala. To accompany the main dishes, we ordered the Kulcha stuffed with onions and cauliflower. All were cooked to perfection. My Chicken Saagwala was just the right parts spicy and creamy. You tasted the spice upon first bite, but didn't feel a burn afterwards because of the cream. I'm not normally a fan of Chicken Tikka, but Masala Art's version impressed me nonetheless. Chicken was succulent and the onions sweet and crispy. I was likewise impressed as it came with a "side" of curried chickpeas, which was actually the size of a normal order of curry. All for $11 too: talk about good value for your money! Kulcha was fluffy and chewy and the stuffing added a gritty texture which was to my liking. Service was exemplary all around. The wait staff were inviting and courteous and you could tell they took pride in their restaurant. This pride really shined through in every interaction we had with them. For instance, when the host handed me the menu, he noticed a small grease stain on the cover. Instead of just handing me the menu and hurrying off to his other duties, he took the time to wipe off the smudge with a napkin. Even though I probably wouldn't have even noticed the grease stain, this was a nice touch regardless. All things considered, Masala Art offers authentic Indian food in a friendly atmosphere, at a very reasonable price. I will certainly be returning and look forward to trying their Wednesday night buffet so I can sample more of their offerings.

Finally ate at the restaurant and YAAAAS it's even better than take out. The Bindi Gosht was delicious as was the chicken curry and chicken vindaloo. Can't wait to go back!

Masala Art is freaking amazing. I probably go once a week. The food is excellent. I usually split the chicken mahkni, vegetable beiryani, and the tandoori chicken with whoever I'm with and it's more than enough. The service is excellent as well. Everyone I've interacted with here has been so kind and professional. Best part is BYOW (bring your own wine) and no corkage fee. You can come here for a really fantastic meal without breaking the bank (just remember to tip well). They have a buffet during certain hours that I've never been to, but I assume it's on par with everything else they do right. The ambiance is quiet and cozy and I've never waited to be seated. Don't let the outside appearance fool you, this place is a diamond in the rough, as most excellent hole in the wall eateries are.

This was my first time having Indian cuisine and boy did I pick the right place to go! This restaurant is incredible! The wonder starts right at the door. You open the front door of a typical strip mall eatery but are immediately transported to a different place. The little foyer, with its carpeting and paneled glass door leading into the actual dining room, is a sign of wonderful things to come. Once inside the dining room you find a polished, proper restaurant with soft lighting and linen tablecloths. The hostess was warm and welcoming--pulling out both our chairs while inviting us to please sit down. She willingly made suggestions about ordering but we opted for our own path. The vegetable appetizer sampler for two is flavorful and filling. We had to leave some to take home just so we could have room in our stomachs for the entrées. We ordered the chicken tiki masala and the shrimp curry. Each were expertly prepared to our mild heat request but yet so flavorful and perfectly balanced. Between the rice and the wonderful garlic naan, we could have easily filled up on the sauces alone. The chicken was tender and moist and the shrimp was perfect. With our meal we both ordered the mango lassi to drink. This is a wonderful concoction of yogurt and mango topped with whipped cream. It's the Indian version of a milkshake and it's very yummy and filling. We couldn't finish our main course and we felt that the lassi was so lush that we never made it to dessert. Oh well I guess that just means I'll have to go back again--as soon as possible! I can't speak about their lunch buffet, but dinner is a definite must go.

I agree with the average four star rating. My wife and I stopped by today for lunch - ordering from the full menu rather than having the buffet. We both agreed that Masala is the best Indian restaurant which we have tried in a long time. I have been to maybe twelve Indian places in the past five years - which have ranged from bad to just forgettable. This is a keeper. The shopping center is unimpressive and the sign out front isn't all that fancy, but they do a good job inside. In a nod to a fine dining experience, they use white linen tablecloths, but with paper place mats. Paper napkins are twisted and arranged nicely inside water glasses. Background music is Indian - not too loud. Wall décor is minimal. Service today was prompt and professional. We started with the "Masala Art" appetizer combo - good but nothing special. Naan was nice enough. Both entrees were excellent. I went with the Shrimp Tandoori - eight large shrimp - properly cooked and nicely seasoned - served with rice and dal. My wife had the Chicken Patiala Shahi - white meat chicken in a gravy of yogurt, onions, tomato and mild spices. We will go back to try more of the extensive menu. The buffet lunch is very popular - the restaurant was 80%- 90% full. Probably would be wise to make a reservation for dinner. One pix of the interior of the place makes it seem very dark but in reality the place has plenty of light. The pix is just under-exposed.

Great food, nice option at lunch for a buffet which is great for this Indian food novice! Service can be a little distracted, but always nice.

Go for the lunch buffet! It's a great variety, fresh and so delicious. They don't disappoint.

This place makes my tummy so very happy! BYOB and the prices are so reasonable! This is my new favorite Indian place. I was hooked after my first time here in January and decided to come back 3 more times since. Addicted!

We tried this restaurant a month ago based on reviews and found it to be one of the best indian restaurants in the central jersey. Food is delicious and the people are nice.

For way out in the burbs, we had a quite fine Wed night dinner buffet here. Possibly the best fresh naan I've had in quite a while.

  • Robert M.

Great food and great service. The owners are at their restaurant often and always check with customers on both food and dining experience. The lunch buffet is great and very filling. Get there early for lunch as it fills up quickly. Note they also have great take out for dinner.

  • Chris M.

This is the best Indian food that I have ever had. The owners and service staff are so friendly and do an excellent job every time. I don't live in NJ anymore, but I always come here for at least one meal when I visit.

    (5)
  • Daniel G.

Simply outstanding. I've tried many Indian restaurants in new jersey and this is amongst the best. The staff are very friendly, food is great (especially since when you ask for spicy they do it rather than assuming you don't really know what you're asking for like at some places). Prices are reasonable and byob is just a bonus.

Delicious food, salt was on the lower side I should say it was healthy , spice was just right in everything , soup was exquisite.

  • Tyler G.

I really like this place. The atmosphere is very nice; it's dark, cozy and relaxing. The staff is very helpful and friendly. I don't know too many dishes, but everything I have tried has been very good. I really like the malai kofta. I will definitely come back when I get a craving. Let me know if you have any dishes to recommend because I'd love to try more!

Not a good place for eating. Biryani is horrible, it is not actually Biryani it a kind of tomato rice with some chicken pieces. Nan is good. Mutton curry is not good.

  • Mark B.

They did not even begin to meet temp requirements for buffet food.

You won't be bringing a ham sandwich to this buffet on Wednesday nights the food is always delicious and sevice excellent

We catered a party with them last night. The food was outstanding. Our guests were very impressed with everything. The samosas were killer. They were a pleasure to work with. Highly recommend them.

Food was very mild, and lacked some flavor... service was unfortunately off. We had ordered the 2 person thali, which was really great value. We received the soup, which was really good. then came the kebabs, on a sizzling platter (which is always a nice touch).. unfortunately, before we even had 2 mins with the kebabs... the rest of our food arrived...(hate feeling like i am being rushed through the meal). We finished our meal, and asked for the tea.... when the tea arrived, it was shortly followed by our bill (again, not even a couple of sips into our tea). It's a shame about the service, as the place was decent.

  • Ranjan D.

Not the best Indian food I ever had, but it's definitely best in the neighborhood. Their lamb chops are amazing, chicken is OK. The only complain is they never change the non-veg menu for the lunch-buffet. The same chicken and lamb chops everyday. Don't forget to get the "$1 off Lunch-Buffet" coupon from their website.

Really great Indian food. Love the tikka masala. Totally worth the extra drive to get out here.

  • Victoria D.

This small but beautifully maintained restaurant is nothing short of a gem! My husband and I get take-out from other Indian restaurants out of convenience but when we are able to make the trip, Masala Art destroys all competition and reminds us of why we love Indian cuisine so much...Their spice and flavor profiles are just more intriguing and savory than others around, even more so than a very popular Manhattan Indian restaurant- where we first discovered our love of Indian food. We laugh that even their basmati rice is more fragrant and fluffy than that if other restaurants. Top notch nann, too. High quality food and excellent service.

  • Nadav K.

I've had lots and lots and lots of Indian food over the years in the US and in England, and this was - by far - the best. The sauces were just so rich and flavorful. I tried it one night when I was in town and loved it so much I went back the next night. It was even better.

  • Joe L.

Indian restaurants in central NJ had better be pretty damned good in order to compete. Well, Masala Art might be the best that I've had in the whole state. What do I know? Well, I used to live here. I also know my way around homemade vegetarian Indian food. Trust me: if you like Indian food, you'll like Masala Art. We shared all vegetarian items when we visited. Nothing to complain about. They started us off with papadum that came with a tasty onion chutney and a green chutney. We all shared roti, aloo paratha, garlic naan, mulligatawny, saag paneer, chana masala, dal special, and mattar paneer. Oh, almost forgot raita. We finished everything and we were quite satisfied. For the record, we were three Indians and myself. They said that they have two versions of mulligatawny: with or without chicken stock. Be sure to specify when you order. BYO! I think the liquor stores close around 9:00 p.m., so plan accordingly. Annapurna!

I normally do not like indian food for the most part b/c I haven't been to many places that I enjoyed. My previous experiences were either to bland or I felt like it was so overpowering, it wasn't appetizing. I normally steer clear from any form of a buffet, but I walked in to check it out and it was pretty packed. btw its not only a buffet place, its a option you can try. I looked at the buffet and everything looked fresh and people were going for second. Tip #2 was that there were a lot of indians there eating which is a good sign to its authenticity. I did the lunch buffet for $10 which is very reasonable. I wanted to try a little bit of everything they have. If I knew what the names were I would do my usual review breaking each one down by flavor, texture, taste and quality but this will have to do. The cut up pieces of chicken that are bright red, were very moist and had good simple flavors. The little meatballs in a yellowish cream sauce had a lot of flavor. It went well with the curry potatoes I should have written this review when I went there 6 months ago so I can clearly explain each dish but what I would say at this point, is if you are in the area, go during lunch time to see the lunch buffet, you shouldn't be disappointed. They have an extensive menu which I would only venture on to with a indian friend that can really guide me. Service was ok, I wasn't wow'd b/c we were also ordering off the regular menu. The indian chai masala tea (I think that is what its called) wasn't that good, I have had much better at other indian places. No biggie, its all about the food. Try them out!

Drove myself all the way out here in an attempt to search for a little surprise. Well I guess I got what I wished for. 1. I was caught by the mango lassi with whip cream on it which I really didn't like especially when I could see that they just took away the whip cream. I am not sure what they added to the lassi but it is really thick and had no mango taste. Seemed like they added coloring and some artificial flavoring in it. In terms of the food, we ordered lamb vindaloo and lamb josh rougsh. They tasted ok given the location and clientele but the gravy seemed a little thin. The dish is filled with Gary and very little meat. The Nann was really thin almost feel like eating paper at some parts of the Nann. It is way toooo crispy. Finally, I spotted the special offer which apparently has to be printed but the requirement is no where to be found anywhere on the website. After it is an INTERNET coupon, but... Nevertheless has to be printed, what an irony. This rest is off my list

Very good. There aren't any other Indian places nearby so luckily this one is good! I ordered medium spice but it wasn't really hot, next time I will order the highest spice level. Garlic naan awesome. Shrimp was very overcooked, but sauce was excellent. I will return. Service was decent.

Recently moved to this area, and have been missing the Indian restaurants we used to frequent. Not anymore! We have been to Masala Art twice, the first time for the dinner buffet to get an idea of their menu and food quality. It did not disappoint - everything we tasted was delicious, from palak paneer to chicken chili, vegetable chaat, lamb meatballs (a favorite), chicken tandoori, vegetable korma, and more. I highly recommend, and plan to be a frequent visitor, as it is located just minutes from my new residence.

Another very good option for Indian food in the area. Food was delicious and spiced according to our request. Friendly service and clean modern setting.

The best food, service and value for Indian food in NJ and most of NYC. Their only competition that I have experienced would be Jackson Heights Diner Queens Ny. All sauces have no excess oil and are brilliantly prepared. The breads are plump, crisp and very flavorful. The quality and portion size are way above average vs price which is below average. The ownership has not changed since they opened and they are still working hard to impress. The decor and lighting is very warm and elegant. I always leave thanking them for a great dining experience.

Went for lunch during a weekday The place is small and cute and very clean. There was a lunch buffet that had an array of popular Indian dishes. The food was average just a tad too bland for my taste buds.. I'm a girl that loves her spice and in that department they were lacking The servers were VERY attentive. I love good customer service. All in all would I return? Sure. I'd just have to ask them to spice my food up just a bit more.

  • Heather M.

Absolutely live this place! My boyfriend and I swear by it and have never been disappointed (and we have been dining there weekly for a couple months now). Naan is always hot and fresh, the spices and ingredients are authentic and clearly incorporated in each dish with precision and care. Highly recommend it! FYI we are both vegetarian so I can really only speak for the veggie dishes but we've tried them all and my fab is the shahi korma, my b/f gets the veg thali because, well, it's all that good we need a little bit of everything every time we go. Buffet is to die for too btw!

  • Tushar U.

A moderate restaurant for buffet compared to other restaurant I went. It's cheap with few items as option. Taste is not that good so that you can enjoy and full your self. I can see some good review because there are no other Indian restaurant near by and people have less option to explore. You have few other restaurant near Somerset and Edison for better Indian food.

  • Siddhartha J.

One of my new favorite place....has never let me down. The lunch buffet is awesome. The food is not at all greasy or extra spicy and the options in the menu are decent, and more importantly, every single thing tastes good!! Thumbs up!!

Their papad (free app given on the table) was stale and rotten. They replaced it with another stale basket. We then asked them if they would eat the stale product in the basket - finally they brought a fresh warm basket that did not smell rotten. I walk past their kitchen, the door was open and I saw there Pakoraa/appetizers lying in a basket near the floor. I'm sure they re-fry and put them out. I'm assuming that's enough for you not to dine here. Hope so.

Excellent choice for lunch. We didn't anticipate eating the lunch buffet but were pleasantly surprised by it when we got there. The food looked fresh and definitely not picked over. They had 10-12 dishes and all were excellent. We'll definitely be back !!!

Happened to stop by this restaurant while driving from PA to NJ. Surprisingly, everything is good at this restaurant. The food, service and cleanliness all were good. At the end, when I paid the bill, I was surprised to see the price being 20% lower than any other Indian restaurant in NJ. I wasn't sure if it was a mistake, but when I verified, every item was included. Left the restaurant feeling full and happy. I would certainly visit this place for dinner with my family and friends and also would recommend this to everyone. Note: I had vegetarian only. So cannot comment about their non veg dishes.

This is my new favorite place to get Indian food/a nice sit down dinner. It's byob and a little further away from where we live, but me and one of my girlfriends have made it a tradition to come here when we need to get our catch up time. My favorite dish is their butter chicken, but I also adore their chicken tikka masala. My friend, a vegetarian, borderline vegan always get their baingam bhurtha, an eggplant dish, and it's SO GOOD. We also get their chapathi bread, and last time we went we tried their aloo paratha, their bread stuffed with potatoes. The service is always on point, the only complaint I have is that while you're milling over your dinner, stuffed to the gills, it might be a task to get their attention (especially on a busy night) to get your check. Otherwise, it's an excellent place, and I wish I could go there every week.

It was the day of Christmas, and no one in the house knew how to cook. I'm so glad this place was opened! My expectations were low... since we were in the burbs, but to my surprise everything was so good! Even the chicken! I find that most places cook the chicken too dry, but it was plenty juicy. Will definitely come again when I am in town. :)

Love this place! Always clean and consistent with food. The staff is always pleasant and helpful. Love the Vegetable Korma, Chicken Tikka and Garlic Naan. We especially like that they will make anything mild for our daughter!

Been to Masala Art a few times now and have had great service and delicious food every time. They can definitely make your dish spicy if you need it, so no worries about a lack of flavor! They went above and beyond during a recent birthday dinner. The server overheard us celebrating and later brought out a birthday dessert treat and turned on a fun birthday song! This is definitely my go-to Indian restaurant now in the 202 / 206 area.

Was looking for an Indian resturant in Branchburg as I had a strong craving for Indian food. Found Masala Art on Yelp with high ratings so decided to give it a try for their lunch buffet on Sunday. There were about 10 people eating here when i got here around 1 p.m. and I was quickly shown to my seat. The selection of food was good but not extensive. I liked the Aloo Chaat which was flavorful and tangy. The Tandoori Chicken needed to be spicier for my taste; Vegetable Pakoda's were a little too oily and felt heavy to eat. Butter Chicken and Lamb curry were excellent. Rice as usual was over steamed and dry (even though I saw then adding more in small batches so it was not like it was standing there for a long time - only how it was prepared I guess). For the sweet dish, Kheer was excellent, sweet enough but not excessively sweet to overpower the overall taste of the dish. All in all a it was Very Good meal but with enough scope for improvement on multiple fronts to take it to the next level.

Everything was so flavorful, juicy and delicious! We ordered take out so I can't speak much for the service but the host got my food immediately and was very pleasant. It was a great experience and we are very excited to have found a great restaurant in the area. I look forward to going back and trying more of the menu. The one thing I would warn against is to be careful how hot you ask it as the medium was a bit spicy.

delicious and inexpensive, with a nice setting and great ambiance. i'm indian and therefore a pretty harsh critic of indian restaurants in general, but masala art wowed me with each dish they brought out. we shared several vegetarian items, and each one was better than the next! even the naan was fantastic -- hot and fresh, crispy yet chewy, and light and airy. if you like garlic, definitely get the garlic naan -- it's too good to pass up. it's amazing that the prices here are so reasonable, given the quality of the food. the yellow dal and dal special were both really tasty, and the chana masala was fabulous! we also shared mattar paneer and saag paneer. the saag paneer was a little too mushy for my taste (the spinach part, not the paneer), but i think that's just how this dish is. i prefer my spinach with some texture and not creamed so much. the mattar paneer was really good, made even better by the excellent homemade paneer. pick up some good booze (masala art is BYO), park yourself in the tastefully decorated dining room, and get ready to enjoy some seriously delicious indian food!

  • Cate N.

I frequent Masala Art pretty regularly- their lunch buffet is small, but consistently good. I also like that they have a take out option for the buffet. The service is always very warm and the food is very good. Even though it is in a strip mall, the ambiance for dinner is quite lovely. There are not a lot of Indian restaurants in the area, so Masala Art is a welcome addition! Good food, service at a good value. Also BYOB.

  • Gil R.

We have been getting take out dinners from Masala Art for some time now. From the first time we blindly "rolled the dice" on this restaurant's offerings to the latest "let's try this dish out", we have been really impressed with the flavor, quality, and tastiness of Masala Art. While we've never actually eaten tableside, the decor is nice for a strip mall restaurant. Everytime I've picked up our dinners, there have always been a good number of tables being attended to. If you're local to the area (or just passing through and checking up on Yelp), this place will satisfy your Indian cuisine cravings with high standards.

I should have posted this a long time ago, but better late than never. I called the restaurant ahead of time on Valentine's Day to ask them their price for the buffet. They told me it was the regular price. When I actually went there and tried paying at the register, much to my surprise the manager/owner came up with a higher price. When I protested, she said in a very stern and scolding voice, everybody knows it is Valentine's Day today. I told her, yes everybody knows, that's why I asked for the price ahead of time. However, she wouldn't honor the price given to me over the phone. I paid what she demanded and left. I have never returned again.

My wife & I stopped in here last night after seeing the Yelp reviews. We had a bad experience with Indian food years ago & haven't had any since. We arrived and told the waiter that we were not experienced with Indian cuisine. He explained everything to us and made suggestions. Well let me tell you we now have a favorite restsurant - not a favorite "Indian" restaurant - a favorite restaurant. We ordered 3 dishes and all were outstanding. The Lamb Josh was spicy without being overbearing. The eggplant dish was the best we ever tasted. We also had vegetable rice biryani - wow what taste.& texture. Looking forward to the next time and a whole new taste sensation. This is the real deal.

I have been to this place few times in Branchburg, NJ for their lunch buffet. Will start review with starters first. They usually have the tandoori chicken in starters, chat (chick peas with spicy gravy), pakodas (Indian cousin of onion rings but not circular) etc. These are usual stuff that we get in all Indian restaurants. And like most of those places, these guys too don't know how to cook tandoori chicken. Come main course, and things change. In the main course they usually have two non-vegetarian and two vegetarian curries. Non-veg curry usually has their signature (probably) Lamb kofta (balls) prepared in a yellowish gravy. I really cant resist this one. Probably the best lamb dish I ever had in my life. Too good. And honestly, I have revisited this place few times only because of the lamb kofta (balls). Truely Amazing. Apart from that, they usually have a chicken curry (butter chicken) which is very good. Their vegetarian curries are also good, though the preparation may resemble the non-veg curries. Taste of all the curries are amazing, very suttle spices. The dessert is ok. I had rice pudding and custard (two different times). Overall, this is a great place with main course (lamb kofta) being the main attraction. People who don't eat very spicy food and still wanna try Indian food, probably this is the best place.

Overall a good place. Food was delicious. Samosas were fantastic. I've never tried them with the sweet sauce before, and boy, have I been missing out! The chicken tikka masala was somehow not at all what I expected it to be (can't even explain quite why), but once I got over the surprise of it seeming unlike what I'd had anywhere else, it was very tasty. Ordered that, two veggie dishes (chana masala, and another that I *wish* we could remember the name of--we'd definitely want to get it again). The waiter told us that he'd be placing our orders for "mild" food, since our young children would be sharing with us. Nothing was too spicy for them, but everything still had plenty of flavor for us! We'd expected the portion sizes to be a little larger for the price we paid, but on the bright side, we left comfortably satiated, rather than uncomfortably stuffed! We certainly would have kept eating if there had been more food in front of us! Atmosphere was nice. Tastefully decorated (not what you'd expect in a strip mall) and very clean. The fact that we were the only people there (it was 4:00ish on a Sunday) may have added to the peaceful and quiet feeling of the place! That being said, we'd have expected the service to be a little more attentive. It was not bad or unfriendly, but we did find ourselves waiting for someone to come take our order...refill our drinks...clear empty dishes...you get the picture. We'll be back, and hopefully sometime to check out the buffet and enjoy a larger variety of their offerings!

Excellent Indian restaurant. Love the food and portions are generous. Simple decor on route 202. People at the restaurant are very nice. It is now one of our favourite indian places.

Great service and great food. The portions are not too big and the price is good. If you like spicy, the medium is plenty! (You can choose between mild, medium, and hot for each entree.) Definetly one of the best Indian restaurants in Somerset and Hunterdon counties.

Took my kid here for her first experience with Indian food. It was terrific - we had a fabulous 3 course meal. She loved the tandoori appetizer and the ice cream dessert. Service was terrific and waiter was helpful in recommending good dishes. Definitely would go here again! Highly recommend.

I've been to countless Indian Restaurants primarily in search of the perfect chicken tikka masala. Be aware that it's in a strip mall past the police station/school/solar panels. Google maps makes it look like it's on the corner (I drove past two times). The buffet is somewhat small, but a good variety and the price is right. Some of the items had notes as to what they were, while some did not. I think there was one dish that had goat or maybe lamb meat. I think that would be important for some people to know. They had chicken makhani, which looks like chicken tikka masal. It was a good change, but had very small pieces of chicken and some grisle and fat. You really had to fish around to get the meat. Overall the taste was good. At first it did not seem spicey, but all of a sudden near the end, the spice hit us. The desert was a custard with fruit and some orange slices. As I drove 40 miles to visit Duke Farms, I probably won't be going back, but will whenever we are in the area.

Still love this place! Food is always amazing and we're never disappointed. Even our kids love it, which is really hard to pull-off since their tastes vary. I will keep going back to this place.

Loved it. My husband and I love Indian and we are vegetarian, so it was good to find this place. Reasonably priced, lots of choices and a nice ambiance. We usually get a Mali Kofta when we eat Indian, and it was delicious here. We tried a new dish also, a cheese and currant/nut stuffed potato dish with a mild creamy sauce which was also really good. The nan was good and we tried a new type stuffed with coconut and nuts which was yummy. The food was great, but the service was a little slow at the end. We sat with our leftovers and empty plates longer than we should have and had to get the servers attention to get the table cleared, our leftovers wrapped and our check. That didn't upset us though because we were so happy with the meal. We will be back!

This place is definitely a 4.5 stars in my book. The food is super, both for lunch and dinner. Lots of variety at the lunch buffet. The danger is overeating because everything is so good! Some Indian restaurants has too much oil in their food but it is not the case here at all. We went for dinner last night and had an excellent meal for a great price. Kabobs, korma, naan, rice, soup.....all of the dishes are great. We asked for medium spicy and found it mild for us. Good Indian food is wonderful because of the spice and variety of ingredients. On top of it the service is excellent, very attentive, polite and thoughtful staffs. It is a byo place. And for Indian food finding a good wine to go with the food is a small challenge! We brought a light red, Rhone Valley wine and it worked fine.

Went there with the coupon from Shop-rite and glad I did. Food and service was excellent. I will be returning, looking forward to trying the dinner buffet.

Masala Art is our favorite place for very good Indian food in Somerset County, NJ. It is convenient for take-out, but it is also a pleasant place to dine. The people are very nice. While my husband can eat spicy food, I have to stick with something mild like a Korma dish. My favorite dishes are their Vegetable Korma and the Chicken Korma. The soups are very good too. Unlike some other places near us, Masala Art doesn't charge extra for their rice. My husband and I are so happy that Masala Art is here in Branchburg. Several new Indian restaurants have opened in western Somerset County during the past year or two and Masala Art is consistently good and out shines the rest.

After we've eaten a number of excellent meals at Masala Art, I finally feel compelled to give them their due: 5+ stars! There is not one thing that is not done the right way, from the cool, casual, yet intimate ambience to the food. All their vegetarian offerings are top notch, and the meat is delicious, according to my other half and family. Portions are generous without overwhelming you and the service is really good. Make reservations and trek out to Branchburg, it's well worth it!

I enjoyed the food very much. Good service and nice, clean place (but not much from the outside - I drove by a dozen times before I really noticed it). The reviews are right on.

Bland food, asked food to be medium spicy. Food lacked salt and pepper, the most basic flavor enhancers. Forget about any hint of indian spices as well... Sheekh kabob served with dal? (Basically lentil soup). Unheard of.... Service was awful!!! We entered the restaurant at 6pm, with only 1 other couple in the restaurant. Within 20 minutes, business picked up. It was at this point when I noticed the owner and her son made a point of stopping at each table and chatting and smiling with the patrons. . They blatantly avoided us... Because we're Indian! Never made eye contact and walked right past our table on their way over to other tables. I had already lost my appetite due to the horribly bland food, but this treatment we received really ruined our dining experience. We only dealt with the waiter/busboy the entire time. Many Indian restaurant owners are notoriously known for behaving this way towards their own, usually at very high brow, city restaurants. This place is located in branchburg NJ in a strip mall off a main highway...Really..this behavior in NJ? Not acceptable. But the owners don't care to make the likes of me and my family happy. They are only willing to fall all over themselves to cater to the Caucasians that frequent their restaurant. Too finally make things worse, they don't even pack your leftovers for you. They dropped off a styrofoam container and I was left to pack my own leftovers. So, not only did I have to pack up leftovers, but I'd still have to spice it up the next day before it was heated up and eaten at home! My time, my gas, my money was wasted on this restaurant. All around bad customer service.

so far, I have been here twice and both of the time, buffet was wonderful. I loved the food there. I am an Indian and frequently go out to eat in Indian restaurant. Masala Art is way better in terms of taste and quality of food compare to others. I highly recommened it.

I went a while ago for the lunch buffet and wasn't blown away, but we returned for dinner last night and this place redeemed itself. Food came out pretty quick, everything was tasty and spiced to order, good service (except a little slow to bring the check but we were okay just sitting fat and happy). We got chicken dinghri, veg kulcha (good but I'd prob just get garlic naan next time) and paneer makhani. There are usually coupons in the local magazines for $10 off.

I am a huge lover of Indian food and this place really hit it out of the park. The ambiance was incredibly pleasant. You would never guess that you are in a strip mall on route 202! The service was prompt and friendly and the food was outstanding. I got the chana masala. I asked for it extra spicy and they definitely complied with my request. The rice was nice and fluffy and the naan was just perfect. My mother got the tikka masala sampler platter and she said it was outstanding. I sampled my cousin's extra spicy shrimp curry and it was also excellent. I will definitely go back here next time I'm in the area. I did have trouble accessing their website, so they might want to look into that.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. i love indian food & i'm so happy we finally gave this place a chance. reasonable prices, very helpful staff. We got takeout: lamb vindaloo, aloo mattar, naan, and vegetable samosa. Food was quick too. When we got home we found large portions and some extra sauces which were fantastic. (a mango chutney, a cilantro yogurt ?, and a sweet/tangy sauce)...only complaint is my potato was a bit mushy/grainy texture ....otherwise everything was fantastic!!

Moved to town last year and just found this hidden gem last week. I was in the mood for Indian so the wife and I ordered some take out. Unbelievable tasting, just so flavorful!!!! Prices are very good for this quality. If you like Indian and are in the area, give it a try - you will not be disappointed.

Food is delicious and they have dishes that I have not seen at other Indian restaurants. The combo platters are a great deal. The coconut soup is phenomenal. I have only ordered take out and never dined in, but the service is pretty weak.

Love this place! This place never fails us - and we have been here several times. Classic North Indian fare, and almost everything cooked and prepared with care and attention. Plus they will dial the spice level. Obviously, very veg friendly. Here are some of our favorites from a recent high school graduation celebration family dinner: (1) Chilly paneer - homemade cheese cubes cooked with scallions and/or onions and green peppers. Uses red chili sauce as a base. No grading on curve here - it's an A- (2) Yellow daal (lentils) - classic recipe, always perfectly executed. Can't even imagine a meal without this. Top of the class with A+. (3) Ghobi Aloo (cauliflower+potato) sautéed in a curry sauce - quite aromatic. Consistently good. A solid A. (4) Mango lassi (yogurt drink with real mangoes). Can't stop at one (actually you can if you count calories). Makes the cut with an A- (5) Baigan Bhartha - mashed eggplant roasted and smoked. Yummy but the smoky taste not always evident. Commendable performance and a grade of B- (6) The bread should not dominate the taste of entrees. Go for plain Rotis with no butter. Tandoori Rotis here are above average and fully deserving of a B+ (7) If eat Naan (flat bread) you must, go for the garlic naan. Cooked to perfection - A- The place is in a small strip mall - a bit dark but well decorated. Friendly wait staff will certainly brighten the experience tho. Soft Indian vocal music usually in the background; no big screen flat tv with gyrating Bollywood hips here - it's classy enough to have your anniversary dinner. Tips: (1) Watch out for some yelp deals when you checkin - only valid for the lunch buffet tho. (2) They do have dinner buffet on Wednesdays - if you are into sampling. However, you will have to live with the buffet spice level. Trying their buffet is next on our list.

I've been here twice and the food is very good. However I think the workers must think we are the biggest pigs - we had to be moved to a bigger table to accommodate all the food hubby and I ordered. Oops. I can't NOT order chicken tikka masala but I always try to get something new vegetarian to try as well. Plus Indian is great leftover. I'm justifying my piggy habits - don't judge me. Friendly enough staff. Nice decor. Prices aren't bad. BYOB. I'll be back with hubby and our piggy ordering. Don't you worry!
