I've been here twice in the past month and really enjoy this place. They have a huge outside area which is great for the warm Months. The service both times has been great. The first time we brought my one year old nephew and they had a nice kids menu and high chair for him. They also didn't bat an eyelash when he was flinging food on the ground ( my sis in law cleaned it up ). This is a family friendly place for sure but The inside is more of a sports bar atmosphere. If you just want to come for drinks and an app you can sit inside. The menu is pretty varied and there is Something for everyone. You can have lobster tacos , chicken tenders, salads, pizza , pretty much anything. I had a quesadilla and it was stuffed with lots Of chicken and onions and peppers. It was huge and very filling. They have a decent beer list which had some seasonal favorites like pumpkin and Oktoberfest. It was reasonably priced too , sixty bucks for three of us for an app three dinners and three beers. If your looking for a casual Place to take the family or drinks with friends this place will satisfy either.

Totally disappointed. Hostess seemed overwhelmed. Finally got seated and waited 20 minutes for our drinks, which were only iced-tea. They sat us on the patio at sunset but by the time our food came, I couldn't see what I was eating!!! Dear greedy restaurant owner, where are your lights if you are going to sit customers outside? It was total darkness. Food finally came, waitress rushed away and left us with no utensils. My husband had to go inside to find someone who could give us some. This place needs better service and better food. My chicken was dry like a desert and bland!!! And who knows if it was really even chicken because I couldn't see what I was eating!!!This place seems ok to grab a beer but that's where it ends. Waste of my money. Bathrooms are disgusting and they are using DUCK TAPE for stall locks....Really? Never going back!!!

Went there to watch the women's finals game there. Food: 5/5, Drinks: 1/5, Service: 2/5. I know there are 35 beers on tap but I went with the sangria because it was the happy hour special...glorified grape juice. The service was absolutely awful. Food was very good. I will try again. Maybe they were all cycling together.

Cool nautical themed bar/restaurant a few blocks off the beach on Main Street. Our server Kelsi was great. Good selection of craft beers on tap and surprising good seafood and burgers. I loved my grilled salmon BLT sandwich the blackened salmon was cooked perfectly. A nice choice of apps and some outdoor patio seating makes this a go to place next time we are in Belmar .

Chill place to hang out and grab a drink. Ate here a few times and food is solid for bar food. Also try the hot wings (grilled), really really tasty!

The blonde bartender that works there is the rudest, most unfriendly person I have ever met in my life. Me and my friend walked out the other day because of the horrible blonde bartender. My friend says she is rude like that everyday--how does she still have her job there??? I will NEVER go back.

Food was decent and fairly inexpensive. Restaurant was loud and dirty. Bathrooms were disgusting.
The salmon and Mahi Tuna bites were perfectly cooked. Melt in your mouth good. I will be back for more. The outside patio was welcome alternative to the loud excited bar crowd.

Food is okay but the service is absolutely brutal. Our waitress messed up the order of G paid no attention to us and we consistently had to find another server to handle the checks and place an order. She seemed to be doing "us a favor" because gratuity was included. Take pictures because we're never going back.

Helloooo Wednesday nights! This is merely a review of a mid summer Thursday eve... We came in around 9 ish, to a decently packed bar, pretty young crowd in their early twenties. The chalkboard indicates what types of specials they have each day and Wed is 50 cent wings and $1 beers, which balanced out all the gas I burned to get to the this place. Needless to say we ordered some of their scrumptious, extra crispy wings and we were hooked! The sauce they have is phenomenal, a mix of hot sauce and bbq, and just finger-lickin' good! A perfect pairing with some cheap drafts, just make sure to get here early, because we did witness the keg tap out and then BOOM - the special was over. Throughout the night they had a DJ playing a wide array of music from top 40's to top 40's in 2002 - which actually made me super happy. They also had random shot specials like a jolly rancher shot for $2 and tequila for $3. Try to get here a little early, they have a small lot adjacent to the place. And don't worry if you do end up getting here late, they have a hot dog stand to feed you as you wait, which is pretty darn genius. In conclusion, you should head over to the boathouse, load up on some cheap food and drinks, but more importantly relive your youth for a few hours.

The burgers are great, especially the Long Board burger. Someone in our group had the salmon and enjoyed it a lot. PBR on tap and great burgers - sounds good to me!

Great food. Great drinks cool little place to hang out. Burgers are excellent. Gave it 4 stars cuz it tends to get crowded with college kids as do most places in belmar during the summer months.
Its been 4 years since I wrote my last review for Boathouse and I have to say, this is still my favorite place. The food has not disappointed. The wings are unbelievable the sandwiches are top notch. You can order anything on the menu with complete confidence it will be great. One great addition they made over the years has been expanding their beer list. You can now get some delicious craft beers on tap here. The nightlife remains the same, a very fun bar to go with friends, dance and have a great time.

it isn't the best, but it isn't the worst. we were hungry so at that point we would've eaten anything. i got the steak slices over bread and fries. the steak was dry and no sauce or anything was on it. the service was great though.

Everything I order is amazing love the bar pies wings are a must!!! And the walnut salad with the coconut balsamic dressing I love when a place has things that stand out from the rest and this place has that craving the wings right now!

We've been here many times, this local place is great for lunch; comfortable with no pressure to rush, good prices and tasty food. We'll have beers/bloodies at a bar table and then order lunch; always well prepared and served in a timely fashion. Only comment would be that there are a few too many televisions in the bar... I think maybe 8-10 which is overkill, I didn't know there were that many sports channels that a non-sports bar would want to see!

Great homemade chips.... Great bbq sauce... If I wasn't out drinking last night - they draft selection is great but skipped the beer today....

Decent food, inflated drink prices, low on the guido count made this shore bar just fine in my book. After about 10 or 11 they move the tables out of the way and its an all out dance party which is fun. If that's not your seen they have an outdoor patio and also another room with another bar however I didn't venture that way. Decent place however the "bouncer" took himself and his job a bit too seriously. Also I can't forgive places that still charge covers.

Phenomenal local bar. Best bartenders at the shore. Best buffalo wings I've had with numerous sauces to choose from. I highly recommend going on Sundays for football. The slider menu on Sundays is unreal and unmatched anywhere. They switch it up every Sunday.

I was visiting from NY with my girlfriend and I can say I Had one the best steaks ever. Music was loud (it's a bar) but I loved the ambiance. Chris, the bartender was just amazing. I'm glad we discovered this place.

It's a rarity that I have anything bad to say about a restaurant. I always hunt the good stuff. But boathouse left me thoroughly unimpressed on THREE OCCASIONS. Each time, I thought I'd give it another chance. Never again. Day one: We ordered takeout for 6 people. It took an hour to be made, and when it finally came out, it was missing 3/12 items. The hostess, rather than apologizing, trying to fix it, etc, simply said... "Oh thats missing? I guess we didn't cook that. Did you really want that?" ...yes I wanted it, hence the reason I ordered and paid for it. Day two: My friend and I came off the beach to grab dinner, and forgot our IDs. Obviously the bartender couldn't serve me. I cracked a dumb joke about it and we asked for menus. The second he realized we weren't there to drink, he pretty much stopped talking to us, and it took 63 minutes to order, eat, and pay for a meal. BTW... Don't eat the pretzels: they are just Super Pretzels from a ball park. Mine was so over-cooked I literally couldn't even break it with a knife. Day three: 60 wings from takeout cost $60. That just ain't right... Plus they were bland.

Best burger in belmar. Wings also very solid and a good variety. Service is always VERY slow especially in the summer. Sit back relax and have a burger and a beer on Wednesday night.

The boathouse has been a wonderful place. The food has always been great, along with the atmosphere, live music, and the service! Have been regulars here for a long time and the servers really take care of regulars. Nick is their best bartender there, but every one of them are super friendly and helpful. Have had almost everything on their menu and the only things I wasn't impressed with was their mahi mahi with peanut sauce and fish tacos. Otherwise I have had everything from burgers, to seafood, to steaks, and more; the food has always been enjoyable and the portions are more than generous. If you are in the area and looking for a good bar with great bar or restaurant food come into the boathouse and grab a bite to eat.

We only came for a few drinks so we can't review the food. It's 5 stars because I like their happy hour specials and I enjoyed the overall atmosphere of the bar area. I'm a firm believer that happy hour should be happy, and good drinks specials makes that happen for me. It was pretty empty when we came mid-day during the week so we'd like to come back another time and see how it is with more people around. There's a pool table and a pretty large bar area. We enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and the bartender was friendly enough. We enjoyed the Happy Hour specials and couldn't believe how cheap the beer was. HH is M-F 11am-6pm. $1.75 domestic pints, $2.50 domestic bottles & $3.50 premium bottles & pints. Domestic here means Miller Lite, Bud, and Bud Light. Yuengling and other domestics are "premium" price. We enjoyed a few Miller Lites and would like to come back again to try the food. I will update my review once we visit again.

Love it here. Good food. Great drinks. Nice local spot. The bartenders really hook you up. Good bands, weekends in the summer get crowded at night

The food is pretty good. The wings are my favorite. The burgers are filling and tasty. The salads are big and tasty. Everything is served in generous portions. The only dish I ever hated was the calamari (rubbery, poorly seasoned-- tried it twice hoping the first time was a fluke-- I was wrong) but overall the kitchen does a fantastic job. They have a great beer selection of you like variety. The real issue I have here is the service. The waitresses often "hang out" in this little service room where they ring in food. I can't tell you how many times I've sat and waited 25+ minutes to get my check or to have the waitress come back to run my card. I've sat with dirty, empty plates and empty beer glasses for 20+ minutes. My boyfriend and I frequent this place because it is a stones throw from my house, but lately we drive to places much further away in order to get good service. I can't stand sitting there watching 2-3 waitresses standing around and socializing in that tiny room while all their tables sit restlessly waiting for someone to take care of them. My tip-- if there is room at the bar, sit there. The bartenders are phenomenal, attentive and really nice! If there is no room at the bar-- leave! Find somewhere else to get a bite and a brew.

Better bar than restaurant. Burgers are ok, not great. Would think that would be their thing. The menu is large and entrees are also just ok at best. Their grilled wings are fantastic, highly recommend them. Sit outside on the patio if possible, it gets noisy inside

I have been going to the boathouse for years now and the best part of the place is the bartenders. This place is truly like cheers, bartenders always remember your name and what you drink. Been the same crew for years now and even the young guys coming up are great. Draft selection is awesome now that it has been redone. Something for everyone and with 30+ drafts multiples of my favorites all the time. Food is decent but you cant go to the boat without getting wings. All around solid spot (except for late night Friday and Saturday in the summer, cant move in that place)

I've been coming here for years, and I have to say the menu has been improving every year. I have mostly been here to drink, not eat, but I actually like the restaurant part of it more than the bar part. We had calimari, ribs, and steak, all of which were delicious. I had to finish the ribs the next day and they were still awesome. I liked the server as well. I've always liked the bartenders here, which seem to have remained the same over the years. It's a cool local joint, but you only get five stars because it tends to get obnoxiously loud (depending on who's playing) and there is no real dancing space aside from the small spot in front of the band.

BUFFALO CALAMARI...I don't know what more to say. It is the best item on their menu. But besides this appetizer, you cannot go wrong with anything at the Boathouse. It is an adorable restaurant down the shore. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is fun. Whether a crazy night with the girls or Sunday lunch with friends outside on the patio, the Boathouse is always a good time!

I've been here twice now (well, three times actually but the wait was so bad we had to leave). I don't remember what I had the first time, but I remember it was decent. This last time, I had the fried wings with bourbon bbq sauce. They were phenomenal. So tasty, and perfectly cooked. The husband had the wedge salad with grilled chicken. He has food "restrictions" and they were really accommodating. A note about this place however...it isn't ethnically diverse. That always makes me nervous. We didn't see one one person of color, not a patron or server or bus person. We didn't have any incidents but you notice when you're the only minority in the room.

I'd been here a few times with friends and had a craving for the excellent grilled wings, so my husband (he'd never been here) and I drove down (from PA) on a day off last week just for lunch, a couple of beers and a quick visit to the beach. I always get the wings. Husband got a burger. Everything was great and a few days later he asked when we could go back for lunch. It takes a good burger to impress him like that! The bar on a weekday is comfy with 70's music on Sirius radio, the bartender is attentive and the prices are reasonable. Lot's of sports on the TVs and a comfortable, middle aged vibe at lunch time. Nice variety of beers on tap. if you go there expecting more than that, you might not agree with the 5 stars I gave, but if a casual lunch in a shore town at a laid-back bar is what you're looking for, the Boathouse has it.

Yelped this gem after a trip to Spring Lake Beach while looking for a reasonably priced dinner. They weren't busy when we arrived (about 6:00 on a Sunday) but by the time we left it was filling up. Good selection of beer, but I was looking around the menu for a list of margaritas or something different I could get, and there was none listed. I mean, I'm sure I could've ordered one, they have a full bar, but a list of options or pricing or anything would've been nice. So I stuck with a beer. The food was delicious. My date said the nachos were the best he's had in a long time. We split a burger and wings for dinner. Burger came out huge and cooked perfectly. We don't typically get BBQ flavored wings, but did per our waitress's recommendation, and they didn't disappoint. Many menu options and variations of different things to suit anyone's flavor. If I come back to Spring Lake, I am totally down to visit this place again!

In the realm of Irish pubs boathouse gets 4 stars. It's a great spot to watch NFL games if you can stomach the sound/smell of the Giants fans and their bs but hey, beggars can't be choosers. What I like about Boathouse is that they have a nice selection of seasonal and craft beers. Usually about 20 which is enough to keep me busy for a few hours and also preoccupied enough to ignore those Giants fans. Give this place a try this fall if you're in the area. Food is good enough and a tick above average compared to other Irish pubs. The decor and atmosphere are ok and they also have a pool table which is fun during halftime.

Maybe it was not a good night for this place. They were out of many dishes and the food they did have was cold and tasteless. Maybe not recovered from Sandy? But if you are open at least try to live up to wxpectation. Our server was very nice under the circumstances.

However, one major problem... They don't believe in heat in the winter. We just left and everyone is bundled up with coats and hats and my feet are freezing

food is really good we often go for Tuesday night 50 cent wings, the steak bites are yummy good onion rings too, the reason for only 3 stars is service they will forget about you at times, my biggest pet peeve in restaurants is when after they have cleared the plates you have to wait a while to get out of there and this happens frequently at the boathouse when i'm done i want to get my bill pay it and begone.

I *heart* the Boathouse. No guidos. (okay, that's a drawback for me, but a plus for most.) Decently priced drinks (I've never eaten here) Mixed crowd, trending on older (30+) They let us skip the line last St. Patty's in the midst of the parade/throng of drunken hooligans. Bartender pours really stiff drinks Yep, definitely worth the stop.

NEVER SAT DOWN We called on a Saturday afternoon around 445 asking if they had seating outside. They said yes but it was first come first serve. We asked if some tables were available then as we would arrive around 5. They said yes but don't make it much later as they had a 7PM reservation outside for a large party. We were fine with that timing as we had to get home. We came around 510 and there were indeed a couple of tables available outside. I asked to seat us (party of 5) to which they complained that the servers don't like when they sit a party of 5. I saw two parties that had grouped tables together. I had said we would only use one table. They then proceeded to tell us the large party reservation moved to 630 and they couldn't seat us outside at all. It was 515! I told them we wouldn't be more than an hour. They said sorry, they couldn't do anything. They had to get the area ready. They had just told us on the phone 15 minutes before to come down and now they said no. I asked for a manager and they said he wasn't around. I told her it wasn't good customer service and they said they could seat us inside - which felt dark and not appealing. The whole reason for going there was to sit outside. So we left and shall not return...... Shame on your Boathouse!

3-3.5 stars. Definitely a low key place to eat, drink, and enjoy the company of others. The restaurant was bigger than I had expected and you have the option of eating outside. The service was good and our waitress was friendly. The food came out fairly quick. They have a huge menu selection - made it hard to decide what to order! They also have an okay selection of beer, including seasonal drafts. Appetizers: 1) Nachos with the Works (Lettuce, tomatoes, jalapeños, black olives and chili): pretty good 2) Wings (Teriyaki, Chipotle, Carribean Jerk, Hot). We ordered them fried rather than grilled as per our server's recommendations. Overall I liked the wings. The Cajun & Carribean jerk wings had spices rubbed on them which wasn't how I had pictured them, but it was strangely good. Entrees: 1) Western Cali Chicken Sandwich (avocado, guacamole spread, bacon) was good. It wasn't dressed up with tons of spices or sauces but was still delicious. My friend ordered a burger which he seemed to thouroughly enjoy. Definitely a nice place if you're in the mood for a more casual, low-key night (in comparison to D'Jais!). I'll be back Boathouse!

Came here after a day at the beach and we were hungry. The wait staff was friendly, but we waited for a nachos platter for 10 minutes after everyone else got their food. That should have been the quickest dish...not good. The food was good though. Except for the roll for my chicken sandwich...it was dry. And since all the rolls looked the same for the burgers I assume those rolls were dry too. They also had a big selection of beers. Kona was the choice for this day. Overall, a pretty good experience.

Quintessential shore bar. Food is good bar food. Atmosphere is all about casual shore life. Leave your fist pumping and whatever other bullshit u think the shore is about at the door this is not that place. Usually live music after dinner and getting tuned up and relaxing, whatever that may involve, is def welcome all night long. Good social bar. Much of the staff has been there since inception and as far as I'm concerned they're all great.

Sadly, I'm a bit past my days of going out and partying on Friday and Saturday night. That's not because I've gotten too old for it, but because all my friends went and had children or got equally lame in twenty other ways. I miss it, and when I used to do it, The Boathouse was an old standby. We used to commandeer the back bar, start static with the Bennys, and get them thrown out. It was awesome. Having not been there in some time, and finding myself in the area the other day, I decided to stop in for lunch and a couple of pints. I don't think I'd ever been there in the daylight before, but it was as expected: an older crowd, munching away while watching whatever college basketball game was on the numerous televisions. At night on the weekends, especially in the summer, it gets packed and quite rowdy here. That was not the case on this quiet Saturday afternoon. I ordered the Lobster Bisque and the Fish and Chips. The bisque was perfectly flavored, but it was way too thick and not creamy enough. I would liken the consistency to warm part skim ricotta cheese; if you took a spoonful and turned it over, most of it would stay on the spoon. It was definitely a nice stick-to-your-ribs appetizer for a chilly winter day, though. The fish and chips were excellent; four piping hot pieces of beer battered cod served on a bed of lettuce, accompanied by some of the best fries I've had in a while. The fish wasn't the least bit greasy or overcooked, and the fries were cut in boardwalk style, but crispier, and well seasoned. The dish was served with a house-made tartar sauce that was a nice accompaniment, though I would have preferred a bottle of malt vinegar instead. I didn't see any out on the bar, so I didn't ask because I didn't want to be a pain in the ass. These were washed down with two pints of Angry Orchard hard cider, which I had never tasted before. I am a big fan of cider, hard or soft, and this tasted more like apple juice to me, or a slightly watered down glass of Berentzen Apfelkorn. There was no detectable carbonation, but it was very drinkable - maybe too much so. The second was gone before I had finished my entree, and I declined a third out of concern for the safety of the driving public. Altogether, it was an excellent lunch, and were I out this way more often, The Boathouse would definitely be a regular lunch spot. And if my friends didn't suck so much, it would still be one for nights out.

CHECK YOUR CREDIT AND BANK STATEMENTS!!! I was in for luch three days ago and was charged 5 times, a total of $180. I have been calling and leaving messages for three days. No one is returning any of my calls for help...I have been a patron for many years and can vow I will NEVER return! I have to now take it to the bank and social media, which I didn't want to do. Please only pay cash!

They must have changed chefs or something because just about everything is different. Not in a good way. I really do like their bar, though. Light on the d-bags. Comfortable place to hang out. I really do miss their spot on bar food, though! CHANGE IS BAD.

Came in tonight for dinner because we had a restaurant.com certificate. The food is what is getting the three stars, but I have to say, barely. The buffalo calamari my boyfriend ordered was inedible and soggy, we sent it back (they still charged us). My wings were okay at best, the sauce was very thick and syrupy. We were pleased with our entrees, I had the lobster mac and cheese and he had fish n chips. I ordered a margarita figuring at a bar the drinks would be good---wrong. Didn't even finish it. Also, when they ID'd me and I presented my UNITED STATES PASSPORT that says i am a NEW JERSEY resident the waitress said that wasn't good enough and that I needed a second form of ID??????? Ridiculous. So now we get to the service. One star. Our waitress was not particularly friendly, seemed annoyed that we were there, and took FOREVER to do EVERYTHING. I asked for water, never got it. asked for the check, waited 15 minutes, needed change, she never came back, had to go find someone up front myself, and then STILL waited another ten minutes. Not so much as an I'm sorry, or how was everything, just dropped it and left. They were not particularly busy. Also it is very dark inside and not a friendly atmosphere at all. I would not go back. I have never understood how people who work off tips have attitudes and expect decent pay. I think I left her 10%, and I really wanted to speak to the manager but we had to rush off (since we were so kindly made late to an obligation by our lovely waitress).

Boathouse has the absolute best burgers ever (or at least in my top 5). A great place to grab drinks and dinner - in the spring/summer, come early to grab a seat outside - always a good time - the inside is very cozy too - a big wooden booth by the bar area is always a great place to sit.

Didn't have their food and didn't have to pay for my drinks, thanks to my buddy's coz who is a local here. According to him, this is the place where locals start end their night after bar hopping from other spots. This place is crazy crowded tho, which is the only reason I took off a star. Like, I had to form the wedge to plow through the masses of bodies in my way so others could move too. Oh, and there is a cover charge after some point (9pm I think). Lame. Other than that, its great! Outdoor seating, live music, quick bartenders, plenty of TVs, a couple pool tables, minimal guido d-bags, and it's walking distance from where I stayed (or biking distance from anywhere if you're a local, but be forewarned that it's a common tradition to be wasted and bike around...you may get run over/into).

Food is great, nice place post-beach to relax. Go with the burger -- one of the best in NJ. Medium rare w/ just lettuce, tomato and onion. Out of this world. Beer list is solid.

Walking distance to the Belmar Inn... Strong mixed drinks, cold beer, ok bar/beach food, efficient staff (who definitely talks about you when they walk into the kitchen together). Fish tacos were decent, but the mahi entree was served with not-so-yummy rice and wasabi sort of marinated into the fish which made the fish look like something gangrenous from the Asbury Park Zombie Walk. And why do they even ask how you want the mahi cooked? It's not sushi-grade tuna; cook that s&#@ up! The seagulls ADORED ME for stuffing mine and my friend's leftover fish and tortilla chips into my bag (wrapped in my napkin, not a big styro container--cuz, yeah, I'm that girl sometimes, and I don't care). There was a weird little tv enclosed in a glass box at our booth that was embedded to Jerry Springer or I don't know what--didn't really need that, or wish it could have been on weather or sports or something.

I'm a local, walking distance to the Boathouse. It's where I go when I want a good meal, a cold beer, reasonable prices, and friendly staff. I sometimes stay for the music which starts around 10, to do so, I have to want noisy and crowded. You can't go wrong picking a meal off the daily specials or the main menu. Consistently good. When there's fish tacos on the special menu, don't pass them up. They are the best around. I know and have eaten at the competition.

So I wAnt to like this place but something's missing. Quesidilla excellent, service excellent, wings cold and undercooked. Sent them back for more cooking..... Less than a minute later they were back out......seriously ? Beer not that cold either. Not terrible but something's missing.

Great bar food and wings. Decent selection of beers on tap and a good laid back atmosphere. I would have given them five stars if it weren't for the service. I've been going to the boathouse at least 8 times a year for the last ten years. In all that time I would estimate that I've had competent (not great but decent) service four or five times. I don't know why this place can't seem to hire decent servers but if they managed to get and keep some who know what they're doing this would be an absolutely perfect local watering hole.

Went here for lunch with my family. Seemed rather dark inside so we sat on the patio (I did not know that farther into the restaurant was a more family friendly area). Our server came out quickly and took our orders, but she seemed to be the only girl on that shift, so it took a long time for our food and our check. However, she was very nice and was working hard. Kids had mac and cheese, wife had Monterey Jack Chicken Sandwich, I had mozzarella sticks and margarita pie. The fries were excellent, but the mozzarella sticks were pretty bland, as was the pizza. It seemed like the pizza crust was pre-made off site, and I wouldn't call it a traditional margarita pie - it was basically just a regular cheese pie with tomato slices and basil on top, as opposed to diced tomatoes, cheese, and basil on the crust. We went because we had a Restaurant.com certificate, so for what it was it was OK, but we probably won't be heading back soon.

Very young crowd, even on Sunday nights. Music is loud, so we prefer to sit outside. But the food is good---appetizer nachos, and wings are great. I like the bar pizza pies. They are big for a single person, but somehow, I end up taking down the whole thing.

Im giving their buffalo wings 5 stars!.....the rest would be around 3 stars. I love B wings and this is the only place I know that actually grills them.....of course, fried tastes better, but the time and precision it takes to grill a wing generates a labour of love for me! So many other restaurants state 'grilled' on their menu, but is always flashed fried before service. If anyone else out there knows of a true grilled wing joint, please let me know! **as for the rest of the Boathouse......I had a wing addiction here many years ago, as I was also a heavy tipper and a popular face in the restaurant....however, one day I was waiting on a server to give a drink order, and instead of waiting any longer, I just bought one from the bar and brought it back to the table. Well, this turned into a major fiasco, where the manager had to intervene bc i didnt order from the waitress, hence a lower tip percentage for her. I flipped out....when i say i was a heavy tipper, i mean about 50%!!! Seriously, im in the industry and loved the wings so much that i tipped wAy too high! NEVER AGAIN!! Obvioisly my 'recognized' face and heavy tipping history, went completey unnoticed as i felt very disrespected as a consistent patron. Tipping has lost it's meaning.....i'm sticking to 18% unless it warrants more......it's all $ and business and greed. Hey boathouse....recognize your good patrons and take note! Hell, take a picture of them and hang in the kitchen.....you lost a good chunk of my income bc of your oblivion!

The 5 stars are for the best wings within a 30 min ride as far as I am concerned - grilled, on the bone, tradional/house hot is the way to get them.

Grilled BBQ Wings = Amazing Buffalo Chicken Pizza = Perfect 10 Drink Specials = Don't mind if I do! Outside seating = YAY Fresh Air Service = Friendly Music = Band starts @ 10pm Summer weekends (cover is about $5 @ 9.30) I love this place so much I freaked out when I learned there was a NEW menu -- have no fear, the new menu is just an improvement on the old menu (who knew that was even possible!?!) Recommended!

BEST WINGS I ever ate! Grilled to perfection, my favorite are the teriyaki, followed by the bourbon; but they are all mouth watering delicious! Tuesday is 50 cent wing night which is when I usually go. Service has always been good and we seem to get the same sweet, helpful waitress! We start with the chopped antipasti salad followed with a heaping plate of wings! Finger licking good!

Good food and fun to party. However the food at 507 is a little bit better and they have good pizza. This place is solid and has a pretty strong local following that other bars don't have.

After an afternoon of playing volleyball on the beach with friends, we decided to explore the town of Belmar for food. RIght around the corner from Bar "A" (Anticipation) is the Boat House on main street. We decided to go there, and when we walked in there was a wait in the middle of the afternoon. Good thing there was an inviting bar there. We bellied up, got some beers, and as we did so, a two man band came on to provide some good entertainment. They helped make the atmosphere, and I was happy to hear them play"Ramble ON" by Led Zeppelin. It made the afternoon great. We sat and ate. The menu is extensive, and even though the group I was with basically had burgers, sings, and beer, I think we were all in agreement that the food was good. I would definitely go back again. They have a good size dining room, the bar is an ample size, and they have an outdoor patio as well.

Really good sliders!

Great bar food and fun place to hang out. Live entertainment and outdoor seating is a treat, but it tends to get really crowded during the rental season. Wing fans should definitely check it out.

Seems this restaurant got 4 stars from people who have NEVER EATEN HERE. This review is from someone who went there very hungry for dinner. First off, we entered the restaurant and there wasn't a hostess to seat us, so we sat ourselves at a table outside since it was a gorgeous day. The waitress approached us with menus. Everything LOOKED delicious. Emphasis on LOOKED.Dishes ordered at our table included the Mahi Mahi sandwich with corn and black bean salsa (which I had), jalapeno burger with house chips, a kid's cheese burger, boneless buffalo wings and the kids mac and cheese. The food took a tremendous time to come out. And when it did, we had to ask for utensils. I was extremely disappointed with my mahi mahi. The potato bun it was on was incredibly dry and so was the fish. There was no sauce on it WHATSOEVER. And the corn and black bean salsa was incredibly bland and dry. My son's mac and cheese was bland, and the kids cheesburger was dry and BORING. The only thing good was my friend's jalapeno cheeseburger and chips it came with as well as the boneless chicken wings (which were over breaded). For someone who hadn't had lunch anything should taste good. But this was a huge disappointment. Too bad Jersey Burger was closed that day. And in the end, the waitstaff was slow, unresponsive and the food completely lacking in fun and flavor. **yawn** And how do they get to call themselves "boathouse" when the ocean is half a mile away?!?

Ok-first off I've had the food here less than 5 times- never really that impressed. But come on, it's a bar, a really fun bar (most nights). Maybe I'm a sap that just get moist in the eye about my first bar experience. Maybe it's the fact they have fresh pop corn (i'd sell my right kidney for one of those machines). Maybe it's the bartenders and an awesome barback or two. Either way it's always fun with the right crowd.

I can vouch for how good the food is as a long time ago I worked here. They have lots of Mexicans that work in the kitchen and they can COOK!!!!! They make the best mashed taters!!!!! Never had better. The wings here are the best in NJ!!!!! Your choice of sauce. Great for Football!!!! Lots of babes come here too!!!!!! Would be 5 stars but this is a pub not a gourmet place.

I love boathouse for a relaxed but still busy night out during a Friday or Saturday in the summer and sometimes in the fall and winter. The bartenders are super friendly. They have seating outdoors and enough space to accommodate large parties inside. There are two bars one large in the front and a moderate sized long bar in the back. Prices are fair, service attentive and efficient. Pool table and a few games in the back. Big buck hunter in the back my favorite. Sometimes a cover of maybe $5 depending on the band or night. Most importantly clean.

Came here for dinner with my daddy, and we were saddened to realize that aside from pub grub, the kitchen is really not that great. You'd think being on the Shore and like 3 blocks from the beach they'd know how to do seafood. We started with tuna bites, which, well, tasted like chicken! You can't cook tuna like chicken, folks. It does not work. We each got the salmon special - salmon in a wasabi sauce with seaweed salad. The seaweed salad was good, so that was nice. But it was the same stuff you can get a tub of anywhere, not anything special. The salmon was overcooked again, and they forgot the sauce on my daddy's! On a positive note, the service was great and attentive, and we definitely appreciated that, being on the patio, they closed the doors when the band started playing so we could still talk. I'd go back, but stick to pub grub for sure.

Good place for a drink. Crowded with many tourists. Nice design - big round bar in a large space which fits many people. Nice patio area. Nothing has particularly impressed me here. The food is fine, but the menu is filled with the tired and expected deep-fry disaster. Full price tap beer. I haven't found any specials of note there yet. All and all, decent. I'll go back

This is my favorite place to hang out in Belmar. Start off by getting a table and ordering a cheeseburger and make sure they get me fries and not potato chips. The fries are extra but really good. The burger is nice and juicy. After paying for dinner its over to the bar to get a nice and drunk. I usually try to show up in time to finish by around 9pm so everything is kicking off when me and whoever I'm with trade our table for whatever is available around the main bar. Summer it can get crowded, but I avoid Belmar on summer weekends anyway. I'm not a fan of dealing with the Bennys. But anytime they aren't plaguing the area you can find a fun time at the Boathouse.

The waitress never looks you in the eyes. She gets your order right, but she'll always be looking past you or off into space. It trips me out everytime I go. It's down the road, so I've been there a handful of times. Stick with the bar food; Burgers/Wings, you won't be dissappointed. UPDATE: So they put in a new menu around March '10. Everything is two bucks extra and they're trying to serve potato chips instead of fries with all of there burgers/sandwiches (be sure to demand fries). All that said, they haven't touched their drink specials which are very decent considering the atmosphere. This place is great for football. They'll be at least one TV with your team up. Oh, and the waitress that won't look in your eyes made an about face! so i had to put one more star back on the board.

It's really pretty good...wings are awesome. Sandwiches are solid. Don't get crazy with your order. Stick with the pub food. Avoid stuff that can be mishandled or not stored properly....it's not a clean establishment in the end. Bathrooms are always filthy...under the tables are a mess...As Bourdain says, if you can't keep the bathrooms in some working order, imagine what the kitchen looks like. If this place was slightly cleaner, and it's a Shore bar, I know, it would be 4 stars easy. Stick with the burgers, wings, bar pies and sandwiches and it's still fine. But its a shame....great place to take the kids after the beach, but the bathrooms are so bad....

sister bar to 507 main also in Belmar & McGregors in Rumson. All 3 places are good for drinking but the food is sub par. they raised the prices & reduced the portions as well. Go to clancy's or Kelly's for real food. These bars subsist on their liquor licenses alone. They show no pride in the food they serve & are not apologetic or accomodating when pointed out that their food is cold, burned & soggy(nachos). Never will I enter any of these establishments again. At least Bar A cares for it's patrons

Went last night with Toot and Chap to catch the Yankees-Mets Subway Series, and had a blast. Didn't eat but despite the Friday night, summer crowd the barkeeps were quick and friendly. Good Tequila Sunrises! There is an outside seating area and after the game, (which the Yanks won in dramatic fashion=bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, down by a run, the Mets 2nd baseman, Castillo, dropped a pop up by A-Rod and 2 yanks scored, including Tex from 1st base!!! Of course the bar went wild when that happened) we had one for the road there. Toot just moved a few minutes from this place so I'm sure we'll be "regulars" soon.

Food is Good Bar food. Large plates and decent selection of beers for the ale and lager lovers.

The Boathouse is a great place to chill after a long day at the beach (although it's open year round). The crowd varies -- everyone from families to the younger summer rental crowd and then there's the guys who just want to watch the game (lots of flat screens) or shoot some pool. Amidst all of this is a menu filled with great pub fare. Last time we were there, my husband had wings and I had lobster bisque (yum)! They have a decent beer and drink selection as well. Our server was friendly and helpful. Give it a go!

Had dinner on a friday night. Friendly casual crowd. Some of the appetizers were decent- wings, chicken fingers were good. Nachos were variable. Service was ok but nothing special. Utensils were kept in a cup which is odd and had to be distributed ourselves. Overall a forgettable experience.

(3)Lisa S.
(4)Joanna K.
Chill place to hang out and grab a drink. Ate here a few times and food is solid for bar food. Also try the hot wings (grilled), really really tasty!
(4)Cheryl C.

This was our first time here so we were hoping for a slam dunk. 1- the wait to be seated outside was at least ten minutes.. We were starving so we decided to be seated inside. 2- no booths were available so we settled for a table 3- they don't make frozen drinks (mudslide) so I settled for a Malibu Baybreeze and hubby had Rum & Coke which was a bit strong for our liking. After all my disappointments I enjoyed our appetizer of "The Works Nachos". Great size and flavorful chili. My husband had the Lobster Bisque soup and he said it was good. My entrée was Walnut Encrusted Chicken topped with a very fresh fruit salsa served with rice. The chicken was very tender and moist and the walnut crust wasn't overpowering. I'm not a huge fan of rice to begin with but it was fair. My husband had the Jetter Burger cooked rare. He said the meat was cooked to his liking however the burger itself was not very tasty. The pork roll and bacon were just ok as well. He left a good portion of his meal on the plate along with his Rum&Coke in the glass. Considering this was our first time and an occasion for us we set the bar high. I enjoyed my meal, however I wish he would have had a better experience. On a side note- try to find parking was terrible!!
(3)A S.
The salmon and Mahi Tuna bites were perfectly cooked. Melt in your mouth good. I will be back for more. The outside patio was welcome alternative to the loud excited bar crowd.
(4)B H.

(5)Joseph G.
The burgers are great, especially the Long Board burger. Someone in our group had the salmon and enjoyed it a lot. PBR on tap and great burgers - sounds good to me!
(4)Angel B.
Great food. Great drinks cool little place to hang out. Burgers are excellent. Gave it 4 stars cuz it tends to get crowded with college kids as do most places in belmar during the summer months.
(4)Rachel S.
My fiancé and I used to love coming here but now I feel this place is not the same. The food is still good but I feel that some of the staff that works here is rude. Also, coming here a little too late can be a mistake because it gets very rowdy very quickly.
(3)Nick M.
(5)Sophia V.
it isn't the best, but it isn't the worst. we were hungry so at that point we would've eaten anything. i got the steak slices over bread and fries. the steak was dry and no sauce or anything was on it. the service was great though.
(3)Jessica R.
Everything I order is amazing love the bar pies wings are a must!!! And the walnut salad with the coconut balsamic dressing I love when a place has things that stand out from the rest and this place has that craving the wings right now!
(5)Jamie C.
(4)John H.
Great homemade chips.... Great bbq sauce... If I wasn't out drinking last night - they draft selection is great but skipped the beer today....
(4)David S.
(3)Brad S.
Phenomenal local bar. Best bartenders at the shore. Best buffalo wings I've had with numerous sauces to choose from. I highly recommend going on Sundays for football. The slider menu on Sundays is unreal and unmatched anywhere. They switch it up every Sunday.
(5)Dan K.
I was visiting from NY with my girlfriend and I can say I Had one the best steaks ever. Music was loud (it's a bar) but I loved the ambiance. Chris, the bartender was just amazing. I'm glad we discovered this place.
(4)Wyatt B.
(1)Tom W.
Best burger in belmar. Wings also very solid and a good variety. Service is always VERY slow especially in the summer. Sit back relax and have a burger and a beer on Wednesday night.
(4)John W.
(4)MandA R.
(4)Annie M.
Love it here. Good food. Great drinks. Nice local spot. The bartenders really hook you up. Good bands, weekends in the summer get crowded at night
(4)Ashley A.
(2)JB S.
Better bar than restaurant. Burgers are ok, not great. Would think that would be their thing. The menu is large and entrees are also just ok at best. Their grilled wings are fantastic, highly recommend them. Sit outside on the patio if possible, it gets noisy inside
(3)Ted M.
(4)Jenna M.
(4)Jenna U.
(5)Alison C.
(4)Val K.
(5)Kelly H.

(2)David T.
food is really good we often go for Tuesday night 50 cent wings, the steak bites are yummy good onion rings too, the reason for only 3 stars is service they will forget about you at times, my biggest pet peeve in restaurants is when after they have cleared the plates you have to wait a while to get out of there and this happens frequently at the boathouse when i'm done i want to get my bill pay it and begone.
(3)Chrissy C.

(4)Natasha B.
"The place was simple but the food was awesome and reasonable priced. There was a mix up with my meal so it came out late however the waitress paid for my drink to make up 4 her mistake PERFECT!!"

(1)Kyle B.
Great local bar with lots of live music.
(4)Liana L.
They must have changed chefs or something because just about everything is different. Not in a good way. I really do like their bar, though. Light on the d-bags. Comfortable place to hang out. I really do miss their spot on bar food, though! CHANGE IS BAD.
(3)Anne M.

(4)Stanley S.
(4)Manny T.
Food is great, nice place post-beach to relax. Go with the burger -- one of the best in NJ. Medium rare w/ just lettuce, tomato and onion. Out of this world. Beer list is solid.
(4)Krista B.
(3)Michael O.
(4)Sandy M.
So I wAnt to like this place but something's missing. Quesidilla excellent, service excellent, wings cold and undercooked. Sent them back for more cooking..... Less than a minute later they were back out......seriously ? Beer not that cold either. Not terrible but something's missing.
(3)Julie M.
(4)Matthew G.
(3)George B.
Very young crowd, even on Sunday nights. Music is loud, so we prefer to sit outside. But the food is good---appetizer nachos, and wings are great. I like the bar pizza pies. They are big for a single person, but somehow, I end up taking down the whole thing.
(3)eddie z.
(3)Michael L.
The 5 stars are for the best wings within a 30 min ride as far as I am concerned - grilled, on the bone, tradional/house hot is the way to get them.
(5)Lizzz E.
(5)Mary S.
(4)Kevin J.

(4)Nancy S.
Really good sliders!
(3)Elaine P.
Great bar food and fun place to hang out. Live entertainment and outdoor seating is a treat, but it tends to get really crowded during the rental season. Wing fans should definitely check it out.
(4)Janice P.
(2)rc c.
(4)Mitch L.
(4)A R.
(5)Irene F.
(3)Amy W.
Good place to hang out, catch a beer and appetizers.
(3)Chad P.
I'll go back
(3)Albert C.
(5)Jonathan M.
(4)Jason D.
(3)Thomas G.
sister bar to 507 main also in Belmar & McGregors in Rumson.
(1)Eddie L.
(3)J N.
Food is Good Bar food. Large plates and decent selection of beers for the ale and lager lovers.
(4)Kathleen R.
(4)Susalina N.
Great for drinking beers and live music, but the food is gross.
(3)Edward L.
