At first, the restaurant was named T.J. Applebee's RX for Edibles and Elixirs. After the concept was acquired by W.R. Grace and Company, the restaurant was renamed as Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar. Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.

I haven't been to an Applebee's in over 15 years but when it's near the freeway on a road trip you have no other choice but to make the best of it. The service was crazy, not enough staff for the overwhelming rush of travelers descending upon the only place open after 10 pm. When you have the hostess trying to turn in your order because the waitress is nowhere to be found then you realize everything will be downhill from there. And it only gets worse. Guests who arrived after me received their full steak dinners and were able to finish said meal before I even got my appetizer. Something tells me they need better training and a manager trained in the food industry. I finally got my cold appetizer and it was "classic Applebee's" which reminded me why I never returned after my last visit. Horrible pot stickers that had been deep fried instead of pan fried and left to sit until they were ice cold. The dipping sauce was so salty I had to abandon it. You can't be too picky on a road trip and I'm fairly certain it's difficult to find employees in a tiny town. I feel for them, I really do. But it will most likely be another 15 years before I give Applebee's another shot.

I dined to hear a few weeks back on my way to Omaha. I ordered the margarita lime chicken and shrimp. In my opinion, the best dish Applebee's has ever put out. The lime sauce went very well with the dish. The chicken was juicy, and very well-prepared. although I am not a huge fan of the $10-$15 chain places, it sure beats any sort of fast food, Or truckstop diner one might come across. In my opinion, the staff was lack luster, and not terribly friendly. They all seemed uninterested in being there at best. However, Should my path ever cross York, Nebraska again, when I am hungry I would certainly consider eating here again.

Do not even bother if you're in a hurry... Stopped for lunch at noon, it was almost 2:00 before we left.. People who came in 20 minutes after We did had their appetizers and we were still waiting on our "lunch menu"...

We stopped in here last night on our way from Maine to Colorado. Applebee's is Applebee's. Not your 5 star restaurant but after many truck stop McDonald's and other fast food places, this sounded like heaven. We were greeted promptly by who may have been the manager. Very nice and personable guy. After that is when it went down hill. We sat at our booth for a solid 15-20 minutes while watching 2 different waitresses pass by us about 7 times. One even vaccines out our section and didn't say a word. Mind you it was after 11pm and this place was not anywhere close to busy. Finally our waitress came over and greeted us with "I'm really sorry. I'm by myself tonight. Can I get you a drink?" I typically would have a ton of sympathy for this girl if she would have just came up to us within the first 5 minutes to say, "I'll be right with you!" Our appetizer came out promptly by a DIFFERENT waitress and meal not too long after that by the same girl. The best part was that when we asked for a check, it was the most prompt service we had the whole time we were here. I would say, if you can avoid a late night meal in York and make the extra trek to Grand Island, it'd be well worth settling for this Applebee's.

We decided to celebrate our anniversary by having dinner at Applebee's. We were seated immediately and we got our drinks pretty quick. That's pretty much where the good stopped. It took about 20 minutes for our entrees to come. Fiesta Lime Chicken and the Riblet Basket. Our appetizer came about halfway through the wait so i guess i can't complain about that either. That's where the normal/average stopped. The Fiesta Lime Chicken was cooked well but there was barely any Mexi-Ranch sauce on it. My wife wanted some extra honey BBQ sauce so we eventually were able to flag our server down as she was bringing water to the table behind us. She said sure and I thought she would drop off the waters and go and get our sauces. NOPE! She took their entire order and then had trouble putting their order in the computer and two people helping her. Did she ask them to get our sauces? You guessed it.....NO! I eventually flagged down another server and as I was asking him for sauces and our waitress rushed over and said she would get them. She brought them out fairly quickly after that and apologized but by that point I had 3 bites of my food left and my wife was nearly done too. We got desert to go as well as an app for the babysitter as we couldn't stand being there any longer. Luckily for our waitress my wife is nicer than I am. I wouldn't have left her a tip at all. We left 12%, which is fairly low for us. We also happened to Applebee's to go the night before and it was terrible also. I asked for extra pickles on my Cowboy Burger and extra BBQ sauce on the side. I didn't get either when I got home (about a 10 minute drive) and there was no BBQ sauce at all! I think we'll be taking a break from Applebee's for a while.

A big disappointment. Service was friendly enough but it was downhill after we were seated at a very small booth where he couldn't help but step on my feet. Dirty flatware was not a good sign after we were reseated at a table where we were able to maneuver seating so as not to rub shoulders with tables on either side of us. We ordered a meal for two for $20 but it wasn't worth even that. The appetizer of boneless chicken wings was way too salty and therefore inedible. My oriental chicken salad was OK but his special pasta dish was dry and not good. We should have learned our lesson at an Applebee's elsewhere but we didn't. I will avoid going to another Applebee's anywhere from now on.

Worst applebees experience in a long time. The place is packed so that might account for something g. Hair was in food. Beers took 20 minutes to get. Food came out not complete and nothing tasted fresh. Don't give many bad reviews but maybe I can save people from a bad experience like mine? Waitress barely would stop at table and manager did not seem to care about anything that happened wrong. End of rant.
(2)Pat L.
What can I say , I had to choose this place because it was late and I needed a drink and food. It took forever to get a server. I ordered sampler appetizer. About the only thing fresh were the wings. All else was mediocre. Drinks were nasty and different ratios each time. Old fashioned can't be that hard to mix? Waitress was friendly and accommodating at least. It was pretty busy, so I'll give them an extra star for effort.

Boneless wings- Great, try them "charred" with the dry rub Steaks- Solid sirloins, usually done correctly Caeser Salad- Very good, dressing is great Chicken dishes- always been happy, wife likes them French onion soup- quite good Things to remember- 99cent kids Wednesdays, Half priced Apps after 9pm, $5 Burgers and beer on some nights, Monday and Thursdays are 40 cent wing days. This place has me confused. I've been here multiple times for lunch and dinner. The food always seems to be pretty darn good, but, the service is just the opposite- especially as of late. The last two times we've been here, service has been lackluster at best. 2 times ago, we were seated in back as a group of 10 (which was nice), but, they seemed to forget about us. Our food came out at all different times, 2 people were done eating before the last 2 even got served. My boneless wings were cool by time they came out. At end of day, food was fine, but, it was just served in a complete cluster. They did end up taking 20% or so off the bill which was nice of them to do, but, we would have rather had a better experience and paid full price. Earlier this week, we went and it was Kid's Wednesday. 99 cent kids meals with adult entree purchase. So, that was good. But, our meal was again, brought out as a cluster. We asked for kids' meals to be brought out with appetizer. Well, the boneless wings came out 5 mins before kids' meals. So, kids were going crazy over our app. Then, the main courses and salads came out at the same time. The kids' meals followed, but, were missing their sides. My soup didn't come out until over 10 minutes after my main dish was out. So, I had to eat my salad with my steak sitting there getting cold. Oh, also, the lady who brought my salad out, picked her nose with her other hand while carrying my salad. That was gross. When it comes to dining, quality of food is always most important for me. This place has quality food, it's just they need to get their act together as far as service.

We thought we could stop in for a quick bite on our way through town but after waiting over an hour for our food we regretted our decision to stop here. It was 2:30 in the afternoon so it was almost completely empty and we still had to wait 10 mins for a table. The hostess was really friendly though, and she appeared to be the only person working. There were several severs there, but they were busy watching TV. The floor in our section was very dirty and tables next to us that were dirty when we got there still hadn't been cleared when we left an hour and a half later. Forty minutes into our wait the server came to tell us everything was done and the chef just had to plate it. It was 2 burgers, a sandwich and a kids mac and cheese that was from a box and it took 20 mins to plate. The food was good but the experience was pretty terrible.

Taking a roadtrip from NY-Cali and we stopped in this small town after 23hrs on the road. There really isnt many options here & from the looks of things, it'll be best to stick with the familiar so we decided to have Applebees for dinner. Service was great (Katie was our server), food was alright in comparison to the many other Applebee's I've been to however, the place smelled like an old like an old dusty hole in the wall bar.

we were driving cross country for the new job in california.. our 3 your old was screaming his head off.. my wife was yelling at me (for reasons i have no idea what they were).. we were going to try to make it to colorado.. but these conditions made that impossible.. unlikely.. painful.. we stopped here... the waitress saw the pain in our faces.. the defeated tiredness.. and she couldn't have been kinder.. she saved our trip... and for this 5 stars... was the food good.. probably not.. it is Applebees after all.. but the service.. the people made this place a welcome, enjoyable and marriage saving spot.. that was 4 years ago.. and i still remember the moment the waitress at the applebees.. in nebraska.. saved our trip
