Located in the main floor lobby of the first national building attached to the double tree on the north side of Dodge St, this little gem is only open limited hours in the afternoon for lunch traffic, but serves some killer sammys. Can get a little hectic if there's a plethora of people ordering coffee as well, as Workers is paired with a Scooters coffee, but the service is always quick. My favorite is most definitely the Fortified Franco, unless they've changed the menu to add the buffalo chicken sandwich back. Service with a smile and generally a tape deck/FM radio in the back playing Metallica or Broken Social Scene or something. What more can you ask for?

Love, Love, Love, this place. Everything is always so fresh and so good. Today was Taco Tuesday and they had two pork tacos, with beans and rice. It was amazing. Great flavor, with out trying too hard. If you work in downtown Omaha, this place is a must!

This place makes the best Cuban Pork sandwich you will have in your life! Now I have never been to Cuba, but I have been to Miami and parts of the Caribbean and have tasted Cuban Pork sandwiches there. STILL nothing comes close to this sandwich produced in a tiny kitchen of a coffee shop, in the basement of a bank. They actually have a version called the "Filthy Cuban" with pepperjack cheese, jalapenos and chipotle mayo. If you are a Cuban purist, you will be very happy with the plain old sandwich, too. Oh, and the cost is incredibly cheap. $7 for a whole or $4 for a half. Both will leave you beyond satisfied. They have sides like homemade potato salad and coleslaw too, but really the reason you go is for the delicious pressed sandwiches. I eat here way too frequently, but I never get tired of it because it is damn fine meal. If you can call ahead, I would because it can take a while if you order at the counter over the lunch hour. They are also closed on the weekend, so if you need your pork fix, you are out of luck. I have tried several things here and they are all solid, in my opinion. If you need a downtown lunch spot, give it a try!

Good place to grab a bite if you are downtown by First National, UP, or Brandeis. Worker's Takeout (in the Scooter's Coffee) has a great selection of pressed sandwiches, and I had to try the artichoke deluxe (roast beef, bacon, pepperjack chesese, and special artchoke spread) because I am huge fan of anything artichoke. The roast beef is great on the sandwich, but not quite as much artichoke spread as I was expecting, especially because for being called Artichoke Deluxe. The bacon is chopped up, so it is a bit more subtle then I would have liked. Overall a pretty hardy sandwich. I tried out the tomato and smoked sausage soup of the day, and I found it a bit too spicy for my palete, but I am interested in what other varieties they might have. A lot people seemed to be going for the chicken and tuna salad, so I will have to give those a try sometime, and the buffalo turkey also sounds great. Service is slower then what you would expect at a subway or jimmy johns, but you can be in and out with your takeout in 10-15 minutes even at noon.

an omaha staple with a rock solid selection of sandwiches and sides. guaranteed good each and every time. cuban rueben and smuggler are go to's. their soup game gets better everyday. they have a consistent high standard and it's been that way for quite some time.

While I would not recommend breakfast here (small portions and lackluster food) the lunch sandwiches are pretty darn good. They are famous for their cuban but I would recommend the cuban reuben. TIP: get there before 11:50 if at all possible - it gets BUSY.

Just went here for lunch today upon recommendation and had the Cuban pork sandwich. It was pretty good, the bread was crispy and they put in more than enough meat. The sandwich was cut up into two halves and was more than enough for lunch or dinner proportions. Overall, it was pretty good, nothing spectacular. I'm curious to try the other items on the menu but not sure if I would venture out that way solely for that purpose.

One-eighty time. I wasn't too impressed tonight... may have had something to do with the lackluster service and missing sense of urgency while I stood around waiting for my takeout for no less than 35 minutes. I could have gotten a pizza made at Zio's (or made something at home) in that time... when we're talking about sandwiches, I just can't fathom why it'd take that long. Even if I'd been dining in, after reading the City Weekly and fiddling with my phone, I would have been wondering what the holdup was. Plus, two dudes that came in after me got their sandies before me. Didn't see that logic. Granted, there was only one employee on, and he was slightly apologetic about the wait, but all that coupled with 'Meh' style food means this was probably my last trip there.

From the time this place was over next to Oleaver's I was hooked. They have a sandwich called the Surfer Girl that is the best fresh turkey sandwich in town. My wife loves the Cuban and I have tried several of their other offerings to much delight. they have fresh spinach, tomatoes onions and lettuce and whoever they have for a meat vendor is on top of their game as this place really is a great sandwich. the one downside is they have very short hours theyre hard to find, the parking sucks, yet I make the trip once a month to enjoy a fresh sandwich. reasonable pricing makes it a natural for just about anyone that is into really good hand made sandwiches.

I had a friend tell me he had never had a better Roast Beef sandwich than the Italian Beef at Worker's Takeout so I had to try it. OMG absolutely without a doubt the best. All the other reviews are spot on, this is a funky little neighborhood place and I hope it never changes. Next up, chili cheese dog! The same friend told me he could eat their chili cheese dog 3 times a day!

Damn tasty sandwiches! I had the Smuggler- roast beef with swiss, pickles, and horseradish all on cuban bread. It was BIG too. BIG on size, BIG on taste, BIG on making me happy. Maybe my review is skewed- I was craving a sandwich REALLY bad-like needed one ASAP or I was going to pass out-so when I finally got it I was in full on gluttonous love!

Veggie Melt! How could something so simple have so much flavor?! Having just moved to Omaha and unfortunately being a vegetarian, the local cuisine has not been friendly to me. However, I have found a tiny bit of solace in the Workers Take-Out veggie melt. We mainly have Workers as bar food when hanging out at O'Leavers but as soon as they get that seating area up and running we'll be there more often.

Putting a "communist" themed sandwich shop in the basement of a bank feels like irony to the point of indigestion. But I don't want to talk of my irrational distrust of hipsters and their world view. I don't want to second guess the amount of time it should take to prepare a sandwich (though I guess, less). I don't want to describe in agonizing detail the small touches of service missing from my experience, they are unimportant -- I want to talk about the sandwich. The house specialty, the A-1, 'top of the list' item on the Worker's sandwich board is the Cuban Pork Roast sandwich. The spot is well deserved. The sandwich is hot and fresh. As you lift it to your face, the pickles and mustard give off a vinegary odor that prepares the mouth. In your bite, the vinegar moves to the background as the less volatile flavors of the cheese and the pork move to the front of the flavor profile. From first to last, the sandwich was delicious and satisfying. The kettle chips that come with the sandwich are crisp and salty, good and undistracting from the main focus of the pork. For a lunch, I recommend the half sandwich. I also enjoyed a side of red potato salad. The flavor was fresh, potatoey and creamy, and did not try to out-shine the main course. While my personal taste prefers a touch less mayo, overall: a decent side I would even order again. On the service side, I walked in knowing to expect little. The cashier was polite. The prep line felt slow. There was one customer ahead of me and it seemed to take a significant amount of time to create my sandwich. When my order was up the cook plopped the styrofoam clam-shell down on the counter and walked away (I needed a bag, bro!). The cashier picked up on my irked expression and quickly stepped in -- like I said, small touches of service were missing, but the over-all attitude of the front-line was positive. The moral of the story: if you're in a hurry and want a Worker's sandwich, call before hand. The food is worth the wait, some of the service could step up to the next level.

Very hard to find, luckily we bumped into a mailman and he knew where it was. I got a rueben, based on yelp feedback, hubby got a Cuban. His Cuban was really good, my rueben not so good. Cashier was nice and helped us order.

I digress from my original rave review. Returned to WT to order the same Italian Beef sandwich. This time, I have to deduct two stars, but still leave the possibility of those stars returning. I brought my father this time, to show him the ultimate roast beef sandwich I had ever tasted, and we were both let down immensely. There was a more clean cut guy working the counter this time, and prepared for us perhaps the worst roast beef sandwich I had ever tasted. I was shocked, I was looking forward to that taste bud explosing I had experienced during my prior visit. I'm pretty sure this guy just slapped together some leftovers and served them to us. I still remain a fan, and try to think of that 5 star Italian Beef rather than the 1 star version, so hopefully they will work on getting consistency going so I can return my review to the former glory of the previous version. Consistency, people!! Come on!!

3.59999 stars Located in what seems to be a half industrial-half residential area, I would've never have thought to venture here without yelp. My first time here I tried the Cuban sandwich, which was a nice blend of pork, pickles and spices. If all I had was this sandwich this place would've earned at least 4.5 stars from me, but unfortunately I tried a couple of the other things, that were not so stellar. On my second trip back i got the Chicago dog which was good but not great and their other highly recommended hot sandwich, the Italian sandwich which I found dry and bland. The Italian was packed with a lot of roast beef, which is usually a good thing but not when its dry! Probably not completely their fault since I got it to go, the bread probably absorbed all the Italian gravy which made the hoagie bun soggy and left the meat dry. I'd advise against this sandwich if u plan on getting one to go. All in all I haven't lost faith and will definitely be back to try other things on the menu.

The Cuban pork is perhaps one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. The place fills up fast around lunchtime, but the wait is so worth it. I have found the cashiers and general service to be quite passable since I'm happy to wait ten minutes for a sandwich that is made to order from high quality ingredients. If you're the kind of person who gets upset over a person who was in line behind you getting their sandwich first, then go someplace else because the service is dished out according to what takes longer to make rather than who was in line first. Based on some of the reviews it would sound as though this place is located in the center of a labyrinth, but it's pretty straightforward. The sandwich shop is actually inside of Scooters, which has a sign outside of the bank building which is in front of the DoubleTree. If you're in Scooters, your at Worker's Takeout.

The sandwiches were great and the ambiance very casual with amazingly fast service, so a great place for a quick lunch. I wish they had other options besides chips to go with the sandwich, though they do have sides that you can add on. We had the full smuggler and cuban sandwich, where the smuggler was AMAZING! The cuban disappointed given the stellar reviews because it was just too spicy, where the spices overwhelmed the flavors of the sandwich (and I don't believe Cuban sandwiches are supposed to be spicy after the Miami sandwiches). The bread was very good overall though!

Great lunch counter inside Scooter's coffee shop right off 16th St on the left as you approach the Doubletree. Cuban is definitely worth the hype. Pork is tender and everything else is right on from the pickles to the mustard to the pressed bread. Daily lunch special can vary and all sandwiches include chips and a pickle. The coffee house setup means seating is a bit limited for those who wish to dine in. You may have pull up a chair at the conference table in the rear!

I stopped in for a carry-out lunch one day and the service was good, quality/portion size was good. Overall a great value! I had the Cuban and French Dip. Note that you will wait a few minutes for your sandwich as they make them to order--which I have no problem with considering they make a darned good sandwich!

Worker's takeout is great! The menu offers both hot and cold sandwiches, mostly meet and a a couple vegetarian options. The prices right, the sandwiches are tasty, and everything is pretty clean inside. The employees are always friendly and for some weird reason, remember who I am. I like that. The food use to take a while to cook but that was in the early days. Things have changed and they have improved very much. They also have renovated and now have a dining area so you can enjoy your food in the restaurant. The only things I do not like (and this really isn't a big deal) is there isn't always consistency. I've visited numerous times and I don't always get the same bread on my sandwich as I did on my last visit. I also realized I have to ask for toppings, they just don't come on automatically... but again, those are simple things that I've realized all I have to do is ask! Worker's take out is a great place for a simple quick sandwich meal. It has something for everyone!

I can't believe Worker's isn't out here yet. They serve the best sandwiches I've had here in Omaha. I haven't tried every sandwich shop in town, but compared to your standard competition (Jimmy John's, Subway, Blimpie, Milio's, etc), this place blows them away. They have take out only, except during warmer weather when you can sit outside and eat at O'Leaver's. They have mostly hot sandwiches served on cuban bread (a wide roll grilled/pressed to be fairly thin), but have other choices as well. I've had all of their hot sandwiches and liked them all. The Cuban Reuben is by far my favorite, salami, ham, pickles kraut, swiss cheese and a mayo type sauce grilled hot. DELICIOUS. Their regular Cuban sandwich is awesome as well. The hot sandwiches run around $6.00 My wife really likes their chicken salad sandwich too. It's not always on the menu but it's never been a problem before. They have other deli sandwiches, but I've never tried them, close to $5.00 for these. They also sell Vienna Beef hot dogs - Chicago style! (even with the poppy seed bun!!) They run about $3.00. They have hummus and an awesome side called "Texas Caviar," with beans, onions, garlic, etc. Try it! Call in your order and it'll be done when you arrive. Otherwise it's 5-10 minutes to wait - and the shop is TINY. I love it though, and it's exactly the kind of place this neighborhood loves, a local joint with good prices and great food.

The only fault I've found so far with Workers Takeout is that they aren't open more hours! The Cuban, Veggie Delux, Cuban Roast Beef? are all fantastic. My coworker says the cheeseburger soup (I know, right!?) is outstanding. Good service, not a terrible wait and inside a coffee shop (bonus points).

Can't remember the name of it, but it gets decent marks. Definitely could have used some more bacon as there was hardly any. Friendly staff. This is not a review so much as it is a tale. A heartwarming tale of a boy and his sandwich. When the original Workers closed down, it was devastating. I didn't know what to do. Didn't know where to go. Didn't even know who I was. But then one fateful day a few months later, while I sat at the bar at O'Leaver's, I got the good news. Workers is reopening! In a sexy new downtown location! But with only lunchtime, M-F hours? But I work waaaaay out West? When will I be able to get to Workers? A couple weeks passed after they opened, and I remained sandwichless. I had a real dilemma on my hands. Could I make it downtown, get a sandwich, and get back, a round trip of 30 miles, all during my lunchbreak? There was only one way to know for sure. I planned for days. Set a date. Made sure my car tires were fully inflated and the engine was well lubricated. I drove to work that day giddy as a schoolgirl. I couldn't wait for lunch. It was the longest morning ever. All I could think about was my Workers sandwich. Which one was I going to get? The classic Cuban Pork? The personal favorite Artichoke Deluxe? Succulent Italian Beef? Or something new altogether? I never had tried the Buffalo Gobbler. It's probably amazing, after all. Should I get sides? The Texas Caviar sure would be tasty. I realized I wouldn't truly know until I actually walked in the door. "Once I get there, I'll just know," I told myself. 1 PM finally rolled around and I ran out the door and down to my car. I hopped onto West Dodge and darted and weaved and maneuvered in ways that would have made the Fast and the Furious look like the Stumbling and Midtempered. 25 excruciating minutes later I was parked on the corner of 15th and Dodge. I pushed through the giant glass rotating door and into Scooters, where I was pleasantly greeted. I glanced at the menu briefly, and could barely process what was about to happen. My brain was in a whole other-worldly state in that moment, but luckily muscle memory took over, and my lips formed the words "Cuban Reuben." I quivered as I paid for the sandwich barely able to believe what was about to happen. I breathed deeply, took in all of the scents of the shop. I looked on in awe as the cooks eyes began to shimmer and sparkle as he assembled this magical sandwich. He looked out at me, and nodded his head in sagely fashion. I nodded back knowingly. Something special is afoot, without a doubt. They handed me my sandwich, placed gently upon wax paper, delicately swaddled in a styrofoam to-go box. I carried it out to my car on 15th and Dodge, held in front of me with both hands, at a brisk pace, but not so brisk as to risk jostling my sandwich, a more precious commodity than every delicate stone on earth. I sat down, and placed it carefully on my passenger seat. I couldn't wait to get back to my desk and devour my sandwich. My coworkers will surely look on in jealousy, attracted to the scene by the succulent scents of salami, ham, pickles, kraut, melty swiss and that oh-so-tangy dressing. But they would never even know that sandwich existed. As I began driving my car, those very scents began to overtake me. I didn't even make it to 20th Street before my self-control gave out. I reached over with my non-steering hand, worked my way into the styrofoam box, and grabbed half of the sandwich. Oh, the bread, the bread was so crisp and perfectly toasted. It was warm, and I could feel the steam billowing off of the sandwich encompassing my hand. I put the sandwich to my lips and took a bite. The thin-sliced ham and salami tore away, like lacy underthings in a trashy romance novel. The pickles provided a perfect vinegary crispiness before the kraut, cheese, and sauce melted over my taste buds. Oh, this was it, my friends. This is the only thing I need in my life. What happened next could only be described as "primal." I devoured the sandwich with a ferocity that would make Shark Week blush. Dressing oozed down my hands and wrist as I made quick work of the first half of the sandwich. Without hesitation I grabbed the second half, paused only briefly to gaze into it's glistening melted cheese before devouring it as well. I looked up and I was coming to a stop at a red light on 72nd Street. The sandwich had lasted all of 48 blocks. I sat at that red light and aggressively mopped the drippings from my hand and wrist with a few quick, agile tongue motions. I probably looked a fool to those stopped next to me, but I didn't care. Didn't care one bit. This is lunchtime, after all. I let out a sigh of relief, and drove the rest of the way back to my office with a feeling of content I had not felt in months. Finally, I was whole again.

been to workers takeout twice in the past couple weeks. sandwiches are great, especially anything with beef. also had the cuban, which was awesome. food does take a while, but usually thats because there's only 1 or 2 people working. definitely recommend.

I get that some people have had terrible waits for food here. If I had, I'd probably factor that in. But, on my one trip, I found incredible food for $6.99, a clean restaurant with seating, and relatively prompt service (I just got takeout). I'll post again if I ever have a ridiculous wait. But, for now - I was delighted with the food. The cuban was incredible - crispy grilled bread, but a perfect amount of grease and goodness inside. I also found myself wanting to try the Buffalo Turkey and Artichoke Delux sandwiches, so I'll be back. Be sure to grab extra napkins if you are taking it to go! The grease can get a bit out of hand - but in a very, very good way.

Great sandwiches! Glad that they found a new location downtown. And it seems that they are able to get the food out more quickly now too. On my last few visits, I have only waited about five minutes to get my food, which is completely acceptable for a gourmet sandwich. And their soups are great.

Loved this place. I had the Cuban Reuban. It was delicious. My husband had the Cuban Pork sandwich. It was great, too. The homemade chips were crispy, not greasy. We will definitely be back. Just a note. This place is hard to find if your from out of town and driving into Omaha. It is in The First National Bank building on the lower level next to Scooters. There is 10 minute street parking just out side the entrance.
