Have had it for take out. Consistently good. Pad Thai is amazing, Drunken noodles are also good. It's really spicy! I have a moderate tolerance to spice and always get a 3. They have a 1-10 spicy level. Best Thai I've had in Omaha. Good prices! Don't get the Pad thai combo as it is a rip off. Only one shrimp in the order. Place is nice and clean, service is quick.

As far as Thai food is considered this place is great to satisfy your cravings. I haven't had a bad thing here yet. 4 stars is for food. They don't have alcohol and the service isn't the best so that's why it's not a 5 star. Order out is the best option I even posted some photos of the menu

Had the drunken noodles and a curry and loved it! Reminded my wife and I of our time spent Thailand, the flavors were soo authentic. With that being said, be careful how hot you order your food, they use real thai chilis that will give even the super spicy food lover a run for their money. Best part is, everything comes at a great price! Just get in early, they got busy fast, on a Tuesday night.

After hearing rave reviews about this spot, i finally decided to give it a try. I'm glad i did. I ordered takeout and was pleased with my meal. I got the chicken pad thai and beef pad see ew. Going forward, I'll probably stick with all things chicken, but everything was delicious! The next time i go, I will dine in. The biggest drawback to me is that they do not have to-go menus. I had to rely on online pics of their menu to order.

I have visited this place twice and that is my limit. The food was fantastic and very spicy on the first visit. Yum. However on the second visit it was so bad. Yuck. I'm sure I will not return. I had combination fried rice, which had a weird off flavor and way too fishy tasting; maybe too much fish oil. The Thai tea is very awesome! The service is slow, unfriendly to the point of appearing rude. So no thanks -there are so many other places with good Thai food and good service to ever bother with this place again.

This is the first place I have tried Thai food, and it was pretty good. Although I did not really like the spices that were on my food. I had the combination pad thai, that came with one shrimp. I ordered it with a level 5, thankfully the waitress was around to fill my water up. I like spicy food, and I would hate to see what a 7 plus would be in the spices. My girlfriend had the combination drunken noodles, which I liked better than mine. It also came with one shrimp. I tried the Thai tee, which was good, but a little too sweet for me. I will be back to try something different.

Excellent Thai food. Service was good. Decent prices. Great flavors. They have a 1 - 10 spice scale. I got a 3 and my mouth was on fire; just a heads up there. It was good but they don't mess around with that. I've noticed they're consistently busy and now I understand why. Definitely worth a visit!

This is the best Thai Restaurant in Omaha. Their food are delicious. The service is fast and satisfying. I'll definitely come back and visit.

Hands down, the best Thai food in Omaha!!!! Prices are amazing for what you are receiving. Iced Thai Tea to drink there or call ahead and they will make them to go for 1.99. You can't beat that! Drunken noodles are fabulous. All curries are great. Soups are all delicious and sip-worthy. Papaya salad is always a winner. Their spicy scale is more true to form, so use caution when ordering--consider being a little less liberal than you would be at other Omaha Thai restaurants. Saddlecreek just got a little bit busier and it will only be getting worse because this place is going to keep drawing crowds if it continues at this rate! Give it a try. It won't disappoint.

One if the best thai places in Omaha. I've never eaten in the restaurant - we've always done carry out, and I've heard the service can be slow. Prices are reasonable. I'd recommend ordering any of the currys (my fav is red with beef). Really enjoy the spring rolls and egg rolls. The levels are hotter than you would think, and I always stick with a 4 or 5.

I might have found my new favorite Thai place. We have heard about this place from several people and had our doubts it was THAT good. We were fully satisfied going to Mai Thai having tried other places (Taste of Thailand, Thai Spice, etc.) and were not impressed. Why look for an alternative if you're perfectly happy with your "go to Thai place? We came here on a Saturday night around 5:30 PM and there were maybe about 5 other tables. While the parking lot and overall exterior were poorly kept (trash everywhere, cracking concrete, fading parking lines) the inside was pleasantly nice and clean. We were served waters immediately and within 5 minutes our orders were taken. ADVICE: Everyone is right to order a lower spice level than what you normally do. In most restaurants where I order a 5 on a 10 scale, I ordered a 3 here and it was PLENTY hot. I ordered the Drunken noodles and my husband ordered something similar. Our friends also got Drunken noodles and Yellow Curry. Hands down the food is fantastic! Service was very courteous and prompt and the best part...the prices are pretty amazing. Most dishes range from $8-$10 and were good sized portions. Other Thai places (such as Mai Thai) would charge that same amount for lunch prices and then $12-$14 for dinner prices. With our kids sharing an entree, our family of 4 was around $28 before tip (3 entrees and an appetizer). That made me happy. So overall... Prices- 5 stars Food- 5 stars (I would say it was equal caliber in taste to Mai Thai) Location- 4 stars The saddest thing for us is we live in Elkhorn and we're really only down that way on Sunday...and they're closed on Sundays. Looking forward to returning soon!!

After reading a bunch of reviews about the service, it took me months to try Salween for the first time. When I did, I resorted to take out on a drizzly "i aint cooking" evening. I was quoted 15 mins and showed up 20 mins later, my food was ready to go and still super hot. I didn't have time to make a stop into the grocery store adjacent which I am certainly interested in (I do my weekly Asian shopping at the larger stores in town but wouldn't hurt to know what they have since they are located closer in proximity to my home). The parking lot, which I have driven past many times, always looks full, however I would not say parking is impossible. Laos Thai Market has been my favorite Thai in Omaha for many years. I always judge on the Pad Thai, which I considered a basic dish that all Thai restaurants should be able to replicate well. Also, it's one of our favorites! Salween passes with flying colors on the Pad Thai- I really liked that the sauce was not overly tangly or salty with fish sauce. Very excellent! My drunken fried rice was not only tasty, but had enough seafood that I didn't complain about the ~$11-ish price tag. I look forward to coming here again-I think I will stick with takeout for a while and then maybe ease into dining in!

The food was okay. We ate there when they just opened. The shrimp appetizer was really different than anything we had before and we liked it. I had a noodle dish that was fair. The service was lacking in my opinion. Our server seemed to have a real elitist attitude. My number one complaint about the evening was that I didn't enjoy spending all night in the bathroom after eating there. Be careful. I'm a bit nervous to go back. UPDATE: I did go back, service was much better. Food was okay but I still had issues in the bathroom. Guess it's me!! :(

I have always heard good things about Salween Thai. Most other Thai restaurants I find are mediocre, the noodle and curry things are watery and always tastes a little off. But, Salween proved otherwise. Came in during the lunch hour, restaurant was pretty full but we were seated promptly. The specials caught my eye, one being a drunken noodle dish with ramen and a fried vermicelli dish. After looking at the menu, I decided to get the pad see ew and my boyfriend got the drunken ramen special. The pad see ew was a good mixture between sweet and savory, the portion side was big and the dish was full of chicken and vegetables. The drunken noodle dish was delicious as well, not too fishy tasting and being an 8 on a scale of 1-10 on spiciness, it packed a good punch without being overwhelming. One star docked due to service being a tad slow and when I asked the server to describe the specials he stated he didn't know . Definitely will being coming back!

Overall, decent food at reasonable prices. I had better thai food, but this is good thai food in the Mid West. Pros: - Authentic thai menu, nice variety of dishes - Dishes can be a hit or miss - Reasonably priced. Entrees do not come with rice, you have to pay for it separately as a side dish..what??! - Nice ambiance Cons: - Slow service - Location in the middle of nowhere - Dishes can be a hit or miss...

I spent some time in Thailand, so I'm always looking for authentic Thai food. This was it! The restaurant is also attached to a Thai grocery store, so one can easily eat and grocery shop. The meals were delicious, fresh and reasonably priced. Our two meals (Fried Drunken Noodles and Pad Thai) plus a Thai tea cost about $22.00. This restaurant is definitely worth visiting. The parking situation was EXTREMELY tight when we went and we had to circle the parking lot for almost 8-10 minutes. Also, based on previous Yelp reviews, we were very cautious about the level of spice/heat requested (scale of 1-10). We both enjoy our food with heat, but decided to err on the side of caution. I ordered a 3 and my guest ordered a 4. We both commented that we each should have gone up by one more but the food was still delicious.

I got some food to go and it was super tasty and stayed warm all the way home. They have a spicy scale to 10 and I would say its a pretty good scale. I got my pad thai a level 7 and it was just perfect! Not too spicy I couldn't handle it but just spicy enough to not need extra spice added.

Food is okay, but customer service is horrendous. I ordered a dish and picked 5 out of 10 for spiciness. When I told the waitress it was extremely hot, I was hoping that they could offer a replacement or at least dilute it a little bit. Instead, she first pretended that she did not hear my complaint. She was totally indifferent and told me their food IS hot. Not even a smile on her face! Eventually she agreed to bring it back and put more coconut milk in it. Of course nobody bothers to heat it. I ended up having a cold and spicy soup. (PS i love spicy food and usually order the hottest in other thai restaurant. I know this place has a different scale but still no way that dish is a 5 out of 10.)

Salween is a neighborhood restaurant coupled with a Thai grocery store. I found it in January when driving into Omaha from KS. My grandma wanted me to bring her Thai food for lunch, and Salween is literally walking distance from her house. I ordered food to go and brought it to her house. We were both impressed. Back in Omaha this week, I took her to Salween for lunch yesterday. It was packed right after opening at 11! We received really great service and the prices are very reasonable - the menu is the same all day so there are no lunch specials, but still, prices are very good. We started with fresh shrimp spring rolls, served with sweet chili sauce. Since my grandma is allergic to peanuts, that was easy and I did not have to modify the order. For our meal, we got pad see ewe ($7.95) and added shrimp, my gma's favorite thing, for $2. We also go the pad king sod, which was chicken, shrimp, various mushrooms, peppers, onions, green onions, baby corn, and julienned ginger. That came with steamed rice. Both dishes were delicious! I asked for condiments on the side since we went mild on spice for my grandma. The condiment case actually included chopped peanuts which was a great addition for me since I did not want it in her food. With jasmine hot tea, the app, and 2 dishes, our total was under $30 before tip. As Eric R. says, "Our exchange rate is good here!" Despite how busy the servers were, we were given great service, refills, and a box at the end so my gma could enjoy the leftovers for dinner. I will return!

This is an affordable and tasty Thai restaurant. If you like pad Thai and pad sew, you have to try this place. The serving is decent and the foods are well seasoned. You can choose the spicy level for all of the entrees. I can tolerate spicy well but for this restaurant I would suggest no more than level 4 because the foods can be very spicy and salty if you go too extreme. Trust me, been there and done it! Their soups can be a bit salty if you like light seasoned soups. I would suggest selecting choices with rice to balance things out. Try their Thai tea and you won't disappointed. I also like their jasmine green tea because it helps with palate cleansing and digestion. Overall, this is a pretty decent Thai restaurant.

My favorite Thai place! It's good value, yummy and the people are nice. I love the sausage rice meatballs, pad see ew, and mango rice. Have that with a iced tea and you'll be happy.

The best place in Omaha for affordable, spicy Southeast Asian cuisine! I have enjoyed everything that I've tried here. My favorite is the boat rice noodle soup pork (long name lol). They bring you an assortment of toppings/spices so that you can adjust the spice level and flavor yourself (=endless fun). The curries are also intriguing - somehow they manage to warm your bones in the winter, and yet refresh you in the summer. I want to try EVERYTHING!

This is one of those Thai places that you don't visit for the atmosphere. The furniture and decor left a lot to be desired...but I was hoping they put the effort into the food. I was mostly right. Out of curiosity my friend and I ordered the sausage rice balls. They sounded intriguing. They were super cute and small, about the size of a big grape. I wished there had been more spice or flavor, all I tasted was sausage. We also got red curry and pad Thai...the two measuring sticks by which I typically judge a Thai restaurant. I really enjoyed the pad Thai, one of the better noodle dishes I've had in Omaha. I liked the deep nuttiness it showcased and it wasn't overly fishy. Perfect tamarind note at the end. The curry was very spicy by American Asian food standards. A 3 was almost too spicy to eat comfortably. It felt more like a 6 or 7 I've had elsewhere. I still enjoyed it but just a word to the wise. Prices were decent, especially for dinner, and the portions were big enough for lunch the next day. In fact, I quite enjoyed the pad Thai cold later on. :)

Is good food worth the wait? Yes yes! This is decent food, but its not worth waiting 45 min. to get seats, and another 20 min. for waitress to come to table, and another 20 min. to order food, and another 20 min. for food to arrive, and another 20 min. to get your bill. I didn't like our waitress, she got mad at me cause I can't decide if I am hungry for pork or chicken with my pad thai LOL. Advice: go to Mai Thai at Alksarben Village, same quality, bigger portions, and they serve duck!

This place is awesome! I'm already looking forward to going back. I ordered the green curry noodles with chicken. It was served with a handful of cilantro, sprouts, and a lime wedge. I ordered level 3 for spiciness. Usually I get a 6 at other thai places, but I was forewarned by yelpers that Salween is a little spicier. The 3 or 4 would be just right for me.

The spring rolls tasted liked a poorly wrapped salad and they didn't devein the shrimp. They lacked flavor, consistency and had very little shrimp (not that I would have wanted any more). The service was lackluster but my main course, the drunken noodle combo, was well seasoned and flavorful. The shrimp in my main course was properly prepped and the spice level was appropriate (level 5). If you stick to just the main dishes this place is worth a try.

I did a take out at dinner time by calling in first. Place was packed but got my order in time and was hot. Ordered no. 35 Pad-Ka-Pao with Shrimp, it was perfect with taste and spices. On a scale of 1-10 spicy level, chose 7 and it was just perfect even for Indian person like who loves spicy food. Had Samosa as well which were in line with main dish. Will ago again for sure!

My favorite Thai dish is nam tok. It's grilled beef with mint, basil, chili & ground toasted rice. Sounds good, right? I've been a little sad because I haven't seen it on a menu in any of the Thai places in Omaha. Then I saw "grilled beef salad" at Salween & took a shot. VICTORY! Not only do they make my dish, they make it well. This tasted super legit, made me feel at home and warmed me up on a cold day. I ordered an 8 for heat because I'm Mexican & that's how we roll. But really, it was pretty hot, but not unbearable. However, spiciness is a very individual thing, so I'd suggest going on the low end for your first visit. I ordered a hot tea & I got my own tea pot which was tons of tea just for me. Love. The service was not the most attentive, but we got our food while it was still hot, the order was right & for the most part our meal moved along just fine. It took a while to pay, but it wasn't a big deal. This is the most legit "Asian" food I've had in Omaha outside of home cooked food. Yes, I know that is a huge umbrella but it just has to be said. Also, random note, it is not traditional to eat Thai food with chopsticks, so I'm not even sure they have them. Finally, this place filled up for lunch pretty quickly, wasn't expensive and had some delicious food. I'm looking forward to going back soon, maybe for take out.

This review for the NW Radial/Nicholas location. I live here. Twice weekly visit at a minimum. Don't miss #31 Drunken Noodles. Once you're hooked on these try the curries, beef salad, Thai tea, pad see yu, soups and shrimp spring rolls. Service always fairly good. Bathrooms clean though occasionally lacking paper towels. Always a joy to see the ingredients stacked up along the way. Working up my bravery to shop at Thai market next door... Note: Some navigation required, finding the location as well as the bathroom. I have not visited the second location on Ames, other than many meals at Nasr's as a child, so these comments do not apply there. Hopefully ST Norte is just as as tasty. PS: BYOB. Hit the nearby c stores for competitive beer prices or No Frills for whiskey or vodka. PPS: If choosing takeout, they don't answer phone when busy. PPPS: Spice deflation an issue here. Order 1-2 levels below normal to achieve desired levels on 1-10 scale.

The food is amazing! Try the chicken pad Thai, it's the best in Omaha! The food runs on the spicy side so start less that what you think and make your way up. Service can be slow, but they get really busy so it's easy to understand. Cannot beat the prices here either, it's so cheap! Needless to say, I'm a big fan and will continue to come here regularly.

We've probably been to Salween twenty times since they opened - it is nearby, delicious, and cheap (it used to be an absolute steal, but they have unfortunately come to their senses). It seems lots of reviews note the service. Yes, I remember that phase - there was a time when they always seemed understaffed, but service has been excellent the last handful of times we've been in. We gravitate around the Pad Thais, Curries, and appetizers, occasionally venturing out further. I've never had anything below a 4-star meal here, and it is usually 5-star. One of our favorite restaurants in a town with lots of great restaurants.

Solid. we were debating where to go tonight and as soon as Salween was mentioned I vaguely heard any other options. I have been meaning to get here for a long time. It seems to be a favorite of Omaha Elites and I know they have great taste. I have heard many people give their reviews and I now trust a lot of strangers that I know. My hands down favorite Thai place is not in Omaha and I use it as a litmus test for others. Based on that I have had a lot of shitty Thai, I am now wondering since I have had a lot of different places if my favorite is Americanized. My Panang curry is really creamy and has a hint of sweet. So flippin. good. Tonight, in Yelper fashion, we ordered a varied amount of dishes so we could get a general feel. Apps up. Wifle and I got the Tofu spring rolls and Fried Tofu triangles. It seems there is a lot of leeway on these items. I have had Wokked tofu spring rolls that are a bit better, but the sheer girth of these tonight were a plus 1. Served with standard chili sweet sauce. The tofu triangles were actually pretty bland, but I don't know what I was expecting. It really is just fried tofu. My bro in law got the egg rolls and said they were good and I believe that means average. Thanks to Yelp I called ahead to make sure i could bring my own drinks. Wifle brought a Cherry wine from Pirtle winery (see review) and I got a Chasin' Freshies from Beertopia. Entrees were going to be normal staples. Panang curry for me and even though she also wanted Panang, Wifle got the Yellow curry. When it came to the spice scale I recalled the warnings. I ordered mine at a 6 and she got a "weak" 2. So snot is running out of my nose about halfway through my dish and I can't see it due to my watery eyes. Taste is great. tofu texture is a really good chewyness. The Mrs. curry is really flavorful. Lacking in veggies, but bursting with flavors. Both dishes were less creamy in appearance than I was hoping for. I think the oilyness was due to the addition of chili oil which is where the insane heat came from. Next time I might dial it back to a 4 and I really like spicy. My bro got the fried Talapia. The whole friggin fish. Gross. The timing of the entrees was off as we got our meals quick and he waited about 10 more minutes for that thing. Maybe they had to catch it, but I think it was frozen and not often ordered. Whatever, not allowed at the table next time. There will be a next time because overall it was a great meal. fair pricing and only $2 a person corkage fee. Maybe next time I will just drink from the bottle. Salween is not pretentious and fancy. No linens on the table trying to get those Husker fans like my favorite Thai, but I am hooked. I will go early enough next time to go next door to the grocery part of the business and get some stuff to mimic the dishes at home

Was visiting from out of town and I must say this place is very bad. Service was even worse. They screwed up on my order and wanted to charge me for the wrong order. How stupid is that? Plus service was rude and slow.

I was eager to try this place but it kind of disappointed me. The food was okay but the service was seriously lacking. We walked in on a Saturday night and there were about five tables open. We waited to be seated for about five-ten minutes before some finally acknowledged us. The thing that was most frustrating was that we made eye contact with a lot of the waitstaff, but they just chose to ignore us. After we sat down, we glanced over the menu and waited almost 15 more minutes for our waiter to even come over and say hi. At this point we still didn't even have water. We were both super hungry so put in our order immediately. We started off with an order of Samosas. It was okay and we definitely ate it, but it was pretty greasy and pretty small portion. The menu said it came with two pieces, but instead there were four small fried pieces. For dinner I had the cashew chicken and my date had pad Thai. My cashew chicken was probably a three out of the five. It didn't come with rice, which I thought was pretty strange. The chicken was almost breaded and that was different to me too. The Pad Thai was nothing soecial. People warned that it was pretty spicey so we both got level ones and they were fine for us. When our waiter brought over our food, I asked for a pair of chopsticks. He mumbled "okay" but after five minutes of waiting while my food slowly got cold, I went up a got a pair from the cashier. He never brought a pair out, and not once did he refill our water. I'm normally pretty laid back, but I felt super frustrated the whole time I was here. The meal was just under $30. I may order pickup from here, but I won't return for dining in.

Affordable, delicious, spicy Thai! I have a bit of a Thai addiction that I haven't really indulged yet since moving to Omaha but I've finally found my place. The Thai coffees and iced tea are perfectly balanced (not too sweet). So far, I've had the beef and broccoli and their version of pork larb (I don't remember what they call it at Salween). The food isn't so incredible that it'll blow you away but it is solid, reasonably priced, and just makes you happy to eat it. For me, it'll be a go-to place when I want something to eat at a restaurant but don't want to spend a lot of money + when I don't have a specific food craving. So, the decor isn't fancy and the service is matter-of-fact...it doesn't matter if the food is good. Just one warning. They are heavy handed on the spice which I love (Thai is spicy)...but their 1-10 ranking (10 being spiciest) leans to the spicier end. I got a spice level 7 and found it pretty hot even for a hot sauce, Sriracha, and hot pepper addict like me. I'd probably aim for a 5-6 next time. If you don't like spice, order a 1-2 because a 3 (my husband's order) still had a lot of flecks of chili. I don't think 0 should be an option at a Thai place :)

I discovered this place a few weeks ago. I patronized the restaurant around 7 times since. The service is hoooorrrrriibbble! The waitress (a little petite lady) ... acts like she is rushed when serving me and acts annoyed that she waiting on me. Not sure if she hates her job or doesn't want "my kind" in the restaurant.... When I ask her for chili sauce (which they dont have... like other places have a homemade sauce... they just have the flakes), she took over ten mins so I stuck my head in the kitchen... I politely said "excuse me, do you have the chili pepper." This chick twisted her lip up at me and told me to go sit back down. Ugh excuse me miss but I wouldn't have (and would have preferred) had to get it if you were more attentive. The food was good but the last two times... the food wasn't fresh and the sauces tasted bottled. They clearly must not make their sauces from scratch which is tragic. And they are too heavy on the sauce. The fried rice had waaay too much sauce like a fish sauce. It wad no bueno. The noodle soup was horrible. The blend of flavors was horrific. I didnt eat it all. The beef tasted freezer burned. And no seasoned well. Not sure if the owners tried to cut corners for cost but if so... poor decision. Back to the "Vietnamese Restaurant" for me and my crew! The thai tea is still fiyah tho (that means it is delicious).

Came before the lunch rush and the parking lot was full. Thank goodness, there was more on the side. The pad see ew and drunken noodles were great. The noodles were perfectly cooked. It had the perfect sauce ratio to noodles. The reason I didn't give it a 5 star was bc it was a bit saltier than what I'd like. Overall, it was surprisingly good thai food for omaha.

Okay, so first off the food here is great. I always get the Pad See Ew and the Pad Thai is pretty good too. I've also had the Green Curry and Basil Beef. All equally delicious. However, their service is super slow. They always have one or two waitresses and if there's more than two tables when you're there then you better be prepared to wait a longgg time for your meal to come out. I've been here numerous times and I'd really like to give it 4 or 5 stars for the food alone, but the slow service here makes it a 2.

Walked in, no warm welcoming. Stood there for a while until a male server seated us in a booth. Left menu with us but no server to come around to get drinks. Then time passed by, a female server without personality came by and asked to order. So we ordered along with drinks (water to start). Took a while. Thai tea was brought out with water. Then a while later got our dish Penang curry, beef salad, Tom nyang gung soup, and chicken wings. Chicken wing wasn't cooked all the way so I returned to be cooked, ordered extra rice because they don't serve rice with soup dish however she forgot. So we had to wait a little more while. Beef salad was just beyond chewy. We all thought we were chewing gums. It was so rough and tough thought I was served rawhide bone. Soup was and it was warm wish it was littler warmer and served with rice. Penang curry was good but chicken was white meat so it was very dry. Water glasses were empty but server was nowhere to find and didn't even bother to come by and fill the water for us. Didn't even come back and ask whether the foods were good or not. Horrible service but I serve tables as well so I couldn't be a bad tipper but we won't be back.

This place has great food! Incredible flavors, and as some other commenters have noted it's quite spicy. It's not a very fancy place. Very reasonable prices in my opinion. I've tried Thai food in restaurants all across the country, as I travel a lot for work. This is among the very best. I tried the red curry with shrimp, the drunken noodles with shrimp, and the chicken satay. All were outstanding. The only negative from my point of view, is that the shrimp are normally served with the tails on, which is an incredible inconvenience in most dishes. I requested the tails be removed prior to cooking, and it was obviously not a well received request. Also the shrimp were relatively small. Overall, though, if you are looking for very good Thai food that is affordable in a not too fancy place, this is a good place to try.

Probably THE BEST thai food in Omaha and I've tried a bunch of places: Mai Thai (both locations), Thai Spice, etc. And for the price and taste Salween can't be beat. Be warned though they are a little on the spicy side so be conservative when choosing a spice level. I have tried the sausage balls (which taste a little like chinese black bean steamed short ribs) if anyone is familiar with that, pad thai, and their thai tea. All very delicious. I especially enjoyed the thai tea.. as authentic as the thai tea that I get back in my hometown for less price. It was even more potent than the thai tea I'm used to, which I was pleasantly surprised by. This will definitely be my go to takeout thai place. p.s. BYOB!

As far as thai food in Omaha goes, this is not to miss! Delicious. And very much affordable. Spot on as far as spice goes! The scale is not to be taken lightly - I am all about that spice life (with a palette more tolerable than most) and I was perfectly pleased with my 6-7. Especially with the pad Thai. And let me tell you, this place is as tasty as I have had in Omaha, Lincoln or Sacramento, CA. I cannot recommend my this place highly enough! Take a load off your feet and indulge in delicious Thai food.

I discovered this place thanks to Sarah Baker Hansen's Top 10 list of Omaha restaurants in 2013. On New Year's Eve my husband and I called before setting out to ensure they would be open. After two attempts (and no answer), we decided to set out anyway. Our instincts were right; they were open. We arrived when all the tables were full. We waited at the entrance for five minutes until they had a table cleared. We began with an appetizer, Crab Rangoon, which we selected from an impressive variety of options in the $4-$5 range. For my entree I ordered the Panang Curry with shrimp. The dish was flavorful, and the shrimp was surprisingly fresh (there's nothing worse than bad-tasting shrimp). We got out of there for around $30. The atmosphere of this single-room restaurant is no frills. Big downside on that cold night was that a rush of cold air surged in whenever the front door opened. But the food will more than make up for the lack of ambiance. Love Thai food? You'll love Salween Thai.

The food was out of this world ...very tasty also loved that the waitress asked on a scale how spicy I wanted my food. The service was a little slow but.. it was worth the wait. I will return again and again.

I was strolling down Saddle Creek in search of something to eat for dinner. Something Asian seemed to peak the interest of my taste buds so I turned to yelp for assistance. This Thai jointed appeared and the 4 stars won me over. I arrived and scanned the menu. To my surprised, I didn't see any vegetarian options, a little different from what I'm used to with Thai places. However, when I inquired they were happy to prepare a veg option. She mentioned tofu but I opted for veggies and ordered the pad thai. I took it to go and tested a sample bite in the car. Winning!!! I liked!!! It's was very flavorful with a good amount of vegetables. They didnt skim. I'm a fan and will keep this on my list when I visit Omaha.

Best Thai in Omaha hands down! It used to be bangkok cuisine, but after I sampled their pad see eew at the taste of omaha, I have been a fan since and unfortunately, bangkok cuisine had to get knocked down! All their curries are delicious and prices are perfect! The spice level is out of 10 and 5 is pretty spicy to me, so it's actually out of 5. 3 being moderate and 0-1 being no spice at all. Take out is pretty dependable here too and everyone who works here is supernice and great service! We go at least once a month to get our fix if not more frequently! Enjoy!

I came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon at 1:30pm. The place had one waiter and waitress so we were seated slow. It took 10 minutes for them to take orders and another 20minutes for food to come out. I didn't mind this since I know they're taking time making the food right. We were seated at a table that was partially clean The chair next to me had oil all over the seat. The floor below our table had a puddle of water and some scraps of foods. The service was okay. Don't expect quality service. You might even get an asian glare from the gal if you rub her wrong. I ordered the combo drunken noodles at level 8 hot and seafood fried rice at level 9 hot. The drunken noodles were really nice in that it came in sheets instead of strands. The sauce was perfect. I usually eat less salty food and the seafood fried rice was just the right amount of salt. Eventhough i ordered the fried rice spicier than the noodles, yet it was less spicy. The squid/calamari rings in the rice was really chewy. This smaller, cheaper type of calamari are usually like that so it's better to just ask without it so they can substitute it. The thai iced tea i had was wayyy too sweet. Feom the glass you can see 1/4tea and 3/4milk. I prefer it the opposite ratio if tea to milk so make sure you mentioned how you actually want it. Overall the meal with tip was $30. This place had really decent pricing. Overall food was 4 (I only give food for exceptional foods) while service and cleanliness 2, making this place a 3star restaurant. I would definitely come back for food or get to-go and enjoy it without the mess.

Hands down best Thai in Omaha - sorry Mai Thai. Pad Thai, See ew, and Kee Mao are all excellent. I haven't tried all of the curries but the yellow and panang won't disappoint. They can sometimes be hard to get on the phone to order takeout when they're busy but they always get to you within a minute. Spiciness not to be underestimated.

This place is for real. The only thing that could have been improved upon was the air conditioning... yes, I realize that I may be more critical of this than others, but it was legitimately hot, humid and generally uncomfortable in the restaurant when the temperature outside was above 80. I shudder to imagine what it's like in here when it's 90 and humid. But the temperature would have been a whole other story had the food not also been on the higher end of the spice scale. Ordering a dish on a spice factor scale of 1-10 isn't really anything new to me. At other restaurants I think the highest I've gone before on, say, a dish of pad thai, was maybe around 8. I like spice and spicy foods, but not to excess. A more usual order for me is a 4-6. In BWW terms ( sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/h… ), I'd compare my 'usual' order to Asian Zing or Thai Curry. And an 8 to the burn of a mango habanero. Anyway, here I ordered a green papaya salad (6) and pork pad thai (4). Bill, on the other hand, likes things a little hotter... he'll routinely eat at the 7-10 end of the scale. But when he tried to order his meal as a 10, our waitress actually talked him out of it. This caused the rest of us to second-guess our orders, but we stayed the course. Starting with the fried meatballs and spring rolls allowed us to sample opposite (but both equally delectable) ends of the appetizer spectrum. The meatballs were dense, the breading was crispy, and the spring rolls were bursting with uber-fresh vegetables. And then the burning began. Thank god I also had a Thai iced tea, because that (4) pad thai was even a little spicier than I'd maybe want... the crushed peppers dumped on top contributing most of the heat. And the (6) salad was too hot for me to eat. So lesson learned, the scale here is a little different. Next time I might try a 2 or 3 across the board but there will be a next time... and a time after that... and a time after that. Great food, and a nice grocery to stock up on curry paste, durian, spices, prawn chips, whatever else, right next door.

Food always tastes excellent. Portions compared to other thai restaurants are smaller, probably what one should eat. If you're looking for leftovers, order a quart rather than their usual, which is usually a pint.

Yes! Sooooo glad there's a place where I can get great Thai food in Omaha. As a Los Angeles transplant, I find myself missing the delicious food of Thai Town on Hollywood Blvd often. Was excited to see Sarah Baker Hansen included Salween Thai in her Top Ten of 2013 and after checking out the menu here on Yelp!, I had to go. Wasn't disappointed at all. I've had a lot of Pad Thai in my life and was sooooo relieved that Salween's delivers the goods. Perfect portion, perfect spice, perfect fresh ingredients. Atmosphere is great, service was fast and friendly, and the fried crab wonton appetizer was the best of its kind I've ever had. Why? It wasn't dumped out of a bag of frozen wontons into the fryer. The dough felt fresh and the filling tasted like someone at the restaurant made it. And the dipping sauce made it all-the-better. This is my new go-to spot for Thai food. Soooo glad I went. Can't wait to go back.

Finally had the opportunity to check out Salween with my boyfriend since we've been hearing a lot of hoopla about the place for quite some time. I have to say there really wasn't anything spectacular about the place and compared to Mr G (my fiance), I don't claim myself a food critic. My pad thai was so so and since I'm not into spicey foods I requested level 1. Our waiter thought that was pretty lame :) Mr G's was a 7 and it showed on his face - lots of sweating. The service was rather slow. When the waiter finally came and asked us if we were ready to order, I immediately asked him for water and think he got flustered. The restaurant was right next to the Asian market (you can walk through a back door by the restrooms, BTW, the restroom was actually nice and clean - I give it a 5 STAR!) I think we were more intrigued by the variety of food in the market (water bugs, eels, crickets..)

Part of me has refrained from writing this review for about a year because I want to keep this secret treasure in my own pocket. I have travelled the world, am an absolute food snob, & Salween Thai is the BEST THAI FOOD I'VE HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. My girlfriend spent 6 weeks in Thailand, & said this is the only restaurant in the world that even comes close to her favorite places in the mother land. The Boat Rice Noodle Soup with Pork is one of those rare things I wake up on a Tuesday morning at 3am craving. It gets me salivating like thinking about a grape jolly rancher. The Massaman is also absolutely amazing. Thai food is intended to stimulate the entire palate of the tongue, & Salween delivers. Please note - their food is FRESH FRESH FRESH! If they warn you about a spice level - trust them...don't be a hero. My blind arrogance when it comes to spice tolerance got the best of me as I broke out in a sweat, scanned the room for waters to steal from other tables after chugging mine, & began chewing a rice/ice combo all after the first bite. The waitresses are very friendly & sweet, but just know some nights they get busy & could use 1 more waitress working. If you are not an impatient a-hole then it really won't be a bother. Mango with sticky rice is one of my favorite desserts....Have not tried it here yet because when I ordered it, I was told "mangoes are not in season so we do not have any".....a principle more restaurants should adopt. Oh yeah - don't order a salad in a Thai restaurant expecting a bowl of rabbit food - ask them. I would recommend eating there vs. getting to go. OH YEAH - IT'S CHEAP!!! Way underpriced for the quality of food. I could have 2 far better meals at Salween for the same price as 1 mediocre at every other Thai restaurant in Omaha.

I've been frequenting this restaurant on and off for a few month. Read the review in the World Herald and thought I'd give it a try. Now, the reviewer warned about slow service -- that's an understatement. Not just slow service, we're talking achingly slow service. Tonight we arrived and there were five tables who hadn't even gotten a glass of water yet. We sat ourselves, waited about 4-5 minutes and then I walked up to the cashier/waitress and asked for a menu. It was nearly 10 minutes later that she came to our table. What was she doing in the meantime? Up front chatting with a friend. Yeah. No urgency whatsoever to actually serve customers. Two other gals waiting tables at a turtle's pace. The wonton-wrapped shrimp appetizer was greasy, greasy, greasy -- $4.50 for 6 teensy little shrimps, over-fried and dark brown. Gross and tasteless. We both had Pad Thai -- and it certainly wasn't the dish that I'd had the first time I'd stopped, some six months ago. Dry and pasty. Noodles congealed. Nope. PLEASE, someone teach these owners about customer service. PLEASE. I don't imagine I'll return, tired of being ignored while I'm trying to spend money and purchase their food. I'm over this restaurant -- I've given them several opportunities to get it right. Ciao.

Salween by my cousins house is really good! Super authentic like the most authentic Thai place around! Very clean and really nice servers. I'd say the whole experience was really good, until the bill came. No I am just kidding I can't remember about the bill. HA the dang food was too dang Thai!

This is my favorite Thai place! I order from here at least once a week. Food is amazing, and really cheap! All of the curry meals are great. The pad thai is delish. The seafood dish is super yummy! I wouldn't get the shrimp spring rolls though. Lately, they have only been putting a couple pieces of shrimp in each roll so it's like eating bunched up lettuce. This is definitely a place for placing to-go orders. The dine-in experience isn't as fancy as other places and the area is a little sketch. This is probably why they close at 9pm. If you do dine-in, get the tea of course. If you get to-go, remember to grab a piece of their yummy candy from the bowl on the check out counter. Also- as with all thai restaurants, watch out on the spicy scale. It will always be a little spicier than you think. I wish they were open on Sundays!

Yuck, I was NOT impressed at all! My food was so bad that I couldn't even eat it. I tried to force it down, three bites in, I just couldn't do it. The chicken satay was a tiny portion, the egg rolls and crab rangoon left A LOT to be desired. On top of it all, we had a take out order and they didn't give us the drinks. No. Just no. Never, ever again.

new city adventures, I am in search of Thai Garlic Pepper pork and thanks to my fellow yelper that posted the menu with photos I drove into town today for Lunch for it hoping and praying that it was going to be good and hopefully IT and my search would be over. It was it Salween Thai has my garlic pepper pork. I am familiar with the area even though its been decades since I drove its streets. Salween Thai is near my grandparents old St Cecelias/ Saddle creek neighborhood ( they shopped at the now leveled Hinky Dinky at Saddle creek and I remember the area from my childhood walking there with my Grandma ( she didn't drive) it has changed a lot since I was last there in the early 1990's. Salween is both a thai restaurant and grocery tucked into a corner of Radial Hwy. parking is limited there is a larger lot close by near the Uhaul. I managed to snag a place out front. Salween is a charmingly decorated and comfortable place with wonderfully placed tables and from the smells coming from the kitchen as I was seated I knew the other reviews were spot on. I ordered my garlic pork an order of fried egg rolls ( theirs have shrimp and pork) and my required Thai iced tea. when the Thai tea comes out and its the real deal. I know my thai experience will be comparable. it was. the Thai tea was the best I've had since the little donut store in Sherman Oaks CA kept me supplied with sugary caffeinated vat cups of it back in the day.. the egg rolls came out screaming hot past experience makes me wait anxiously for them to cool as my stomach growls in anticipation. they were worth waiting for. the chili sauce was perfect pair for them and I was three egg rolls in when the garlic pork came out. my nose informed me immediately that it indeed was my garlic pork even though they plated it with steamed broccoli instead of its usual cabbage. they had extra sauce ( Thai Place in Kansas City my previous Garlic pepper pork supplier was regrettably light on the sauce) and I was happy to have extra. more sauce. More happy Michelle. more sauce and rice really happy Michelle. the first bite confirmed it was my garlic pork. let me tell you. I hate broccoli. I have come far in eating vegetables but that one I just can't eat. I tested a piece of it and it was cooked perfectly but not even glorious Thai garlic pepper sauce can save that vile weed. happily they did NOT cook them together so it was easy to pick out and I left a pile of broccoli in a plate that was clean of glorious sauce, jasmine rice and that wonderfully stir fried sliced pork I love so much and have eaten since the mid 90's on a frequent basis and crave even more often. the cook that made my garlic pork today is a genius and I send kudos and praise to them and Salween Thai. the server left me to my food and my book and it was an enjoyable lunch.. affordable too. its not a drive I want to make all the time but one I will have to get that Garlic Pork. as for the rest of you. if you like Thai you need to check this place out. they know their Thai food and the menu is extensive and reminds me of the menus in the Los Angeles for authenticity and dishes. Well done. don't you be going anyway Salween Thai. I will be back.

I had a takeout of Chicken Panang Curry. It was definitely good. Very reasonably priced at 8.99. There was enough curry to that two people could share. I ordered the spice level at 5 out of 10 and it was spicy enough for me. I can see trying level 7 if I felt adventurous.

After driving by it nearly every day, we finally made the time to try Salween Thai. I have to say all of the positive reviews it's been getting on Yelp are totally justified. The interior is clean, contemporary and spacious. An eclectic variety of music was being played, from contemporary Top 40 to country to Thai pop. The country music seemed a little out of context, but hey, I didn't mind. There was a local chef sitting near us who was chatting up the staff. Apparently he was a big fan of Salween -- a good sign for us as we waited for our food. Since it was our first visit, we stuck with the basics -- Pad Thai pork and Massaman Curry. The Pad Thai was excellent. Sweet and savory. You could definitely taste the spice, which we ordered at a level 5. The Massaman Curry -- yellow in color with carrots, broccoli, peanuts and chicken, is probably the best curry I've had in Omaha. At level 7 spice, it wasn't too hot to scarf down once the temperature cooled a bit. One of my favorite things in the world (well, at least eating-wise) is slurping up a plateful of rice soaked in curry sauce. Salween Thai definitely didn't disappoint in this department. Our server came by to check on us, making sure the food wasn't too spicy. Maybe they're having an issue with that. No complaints from us. We'll be back soon, for sure.

I'd recommend carryout, because in my experience, while the food was excellent, the service and general dining experience were poor, even by the already low standards of the family-operated restaurant genre. The service was so painfully slow and the servers appeared so infrequently that I considered knocking another star or two off, but I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt for my first try. The food, in stark contrast, is phenomenal. I'd heard nothing but good things and can confirm every one of them. For my money, this is without a doubt one of the best Asian restaurants in Omaha (notice I said Asian, not just Thai). The prices are also pretty reasonable. One word of caution though: when selecting your level of spice (on a scale of 1-10), shoot low. I'm not a person who shies away from spiciness at all, but 5 was all I could handle; I have absolutely no desire to find out what anything from 6-10 is like (especially since we never once got a beverage refill).

It is a small, local, family-run sort of place. The restaurant looks just as I would have expected it to, and the atmosphere is just fine... but then again, I have lived in Asia. No, they don't have 20 people, waiting to serve you hand and foot. If you walk in the minute they unlock the door, they probably aren't even ready for customers quite yet. Considering the portion size and quality, the prices are great. I also appreciate the fact they are so close to where I live. I only wish they were open all day; but then the quality of the food might go down, since I am sure the break between is used to prep food for the next wave. The spice options are great; if I could remember what level I ordered the previous time, that would be even better, ha-ha. I also wish there was more parking, but there are only so many tables, so I suppose it balances out. Walk in the door open-minded, and you'll have a great experience! :-)

My husband and I love Thai food so we were excited to give this little, hidden gem a try. We ordered take-out last Saturday night and were thoroughly impressed. We ordered: 1) The fried wontons appetizer which were good but nothing special then again you can't really mess-up a crab ragoon. They were crispy with a nice amount of filling inside. The dipping sauce had a hint of sweetness which accented the fried dough perfectly. 2) The drunken noodles with chicken at a level 1. (We wanted to start easy on the spice level per reading other's reviews.) The noodle, veggies and chicken were all cooked perfectly then tossed in a flavorful sauce/broth. The sauce had notes of ginger, soy and fish sauce -- very well balanced. Note the chicken is a mix of bigger chunks and smaller pieces, almost ground. Even though we really enjoyed the dish we did think the ratio was a little off -- way too many noodles and not enough chicken. 3) The red curry chicken at a level 3. The curry was rich with flavor (ginger, lemongrass) but even at a level 3 it was still pretty spicy. My husband and I can handle heat so we were shocked to think a 3 was as intense as it was. I can only imagine what a higher level would taste like. We will definitely be back to try some of their other dishes.

Finally stopped in, and SO glad that I did. I felt like I was cheating on Laos Thai Market by coming here, but it was worth it!! Stopped in on a Friday night after work, and 20 minutes later, every table was taken. Two things I noticed - they don't serve soup by the cup, and they only have hot jasmine tea. Luckily, my friend and I split the entree sized soup Tom Ka Gai, and it was fantastic! Exactly what I needed to kick my cold. We shared the spring rolls ($4) and they were full of fresh veggies, a bit light on shrimp, but whatever. Then my friend had the Red Curry while I went for the Chicken Pad Thai ($9). Sooo glad I checked Yelp while ordering - I decided on a spice level of 5 after reading Sarah G.'s review, and super happy I stayed there. It had just the right amount of kick for me. The pad thai is probably the best I have had in the city, and I had leftovers for lunch the next day. Laos Thai Cuisine has more of a sweet spicy sauce. Both are amazing and I'd settle for either. All in all, I'll definitely frequent this place, and I believe it's BYOB. Just wish they had smaller servings of the soup!

I lack words.... Spring rolls, tom kha with chicken, green curry with chicken (and eggplant) and pad thai...all for only $25 plus tip and all ridiculously delicious. At a spice level of 3 (thank you Yelpers), the spice was hot enough that I could eat experience all of the complex flavors and not burn my face off. While service is a bit slow and disjointed, the wait staff are super friendly. They've only been open for four months, so I'm confident they'll improve on their service once they get a bit more comfortable with this new business venture of theirs. My fellow Yelpers weren't kidding...Salween Thai is now the best Thai food in town.

My new go-to Thai food place in Omahalandia--the food is always really ta-a-sty and spi-icy. I usually go with the drunken noodles or pad see ew, but I've tried the Panang curry and that one honestly any one of those dishes is enough to knock the Thai food monkey screeching at my back. This prices are pretty good for what you get too, so that plus the wide selection of authentic Thai food makes for a delicious and filling meal. The only thing I would change about this place though is that they add a better windbreaker in the front of their restaurant--really though, if you can, avoid tables by the door during the winter because the ambient temperature drops about 10-20 degrees every time the door opens! They have a makeshift windbreaker now, and one time we naively sat by the door thinking it would protect us...it didn't.

This has best Thai food in Omaha. However, there are two things which are really bad. First, service is horrible. We asked the waitress for extra plates and she gave us an angry look, she said "ok I will bring them". We have to wait for a long time after asking for extra napkins. This is terrible customer service. Second, the place is dirty. You just look at their dark color floor which is full of trash... Of course I did not get to see the kitchen, but I can imagine how dirty it is back there. I hope that the owner will take my comments as constructive criticisms and improve the service. Otherwise, the food is very very tasty.

I've been back twice since my first review, and I was as pleased as much as I was after my first visit. The Thai beef soup was like a sweeter version of Vietnamese pho. The seafood stir fry had great fresh vegetables, but was skimpy on the seafood. Fried spring rolls were great. I will say the spice level seems to be all over the place. I went for lunch and ordered a 7 which made my eyes water and burned my mouth a bit more than I expected. We had ordered 7 at our first dinner and it wasn't nearly that spicy. We ordered 6 for dinner recently and everything tasted fairly mild. So, you never know what you're going to get! Still my favorite Thai food in town.

I'm mixed about this place... The food is an easy 5/5 stars. Pad thai, wonton noodles, rad nat.... it's all awesome. The filling in the fried wontons is a little sweet for my taste, but still good. My experiences separate from the food are a different story. The first time, I went with a group of four. It was a reasonably busy Saturday but there were open tables. We still waited at least 20 minutes before anyone sat us at a table. It was another 10 minutes before we had waters and then another 15-20 before our order was taken. Luckily, we weren't in a hurry so it wasn't a huge deal. My second experience, I ordered takeout and waited there for it to be ready. It was 5:15pm and there was one table of people in the restaurant. Still, it took 15-20 minutes for the one table to get waters and their order taken. I have since ordered takeout many times. Even this can take patience. The first time we tried to order takeout, we gave up and went somewhere else after not being able to get through. Lesson learned, sometimes you have to call 30 times to get someone to answer. We almost gave up after 20 calls, but just couldn't let it go. To sum up, I absolutely recommend this place. However, before eating in or even taking out, maybe practice some breathing and relaxation exercises to save yourself some anxiety.

Delicious authentic Thai food with real spice. I am half Thai and recently moved from L.A. and all the goodness of its Thai town. Needless to say we have had difficulty finding anything that has not been "wonder breaded" down... Then we passed this gem of a place. We ordered take out and kept it pretty basic as a first time visit, so I cannot give a full 5 stars. Take out took awhile - seriously awhile - and we're pretty sure there was an argument happening in the kitchen - the place was packed to the brim and only had two servers. We enjoyed the scene and the wait was worth it. We ordered the the thai meatballs (crazy good, only had one as our kid devoured them) spring rolls (next time tofu vs. shrimp), satay (basic simple good and our 2-year loves them) wonton noodles with veg and beef/chicken and spicy pork with veg (nice spice and not too saucy). Next time I plan on going when they open for dinner at 5 (for hopefully faster service and less of a crowd). The plan is to order staples like pad thai, boat noodle, curry ... And more meatballs for our ravenous son :)

EXCELLENT FOOD. APPALLINGLY AWFUL SERVICE. I ordered the Thai mussamon curry and my boyfriend had the Panang curry, both with chicken. I ordered mine at a 2 because I heard that this place was really spicy but I definitely wish I would have gone to a 3 or 4. Regardless, even as I ordered it, it was great. I am not a big fan of lemongrass so this was the thing to order. My boyfriend loved his - his spice level was a 5. His had more lemongrass flavor than I prefer but I still liked it. The service there is atrocious. Appallingly bad. We went with another couple and finally just seated ourselves after atleast 5 minutes of standing awkwardly by a sign that said "Please wait to be seated". During this five minutes of waiting in a nearly empty restaurant with a myriad of open tables, there was a waitress wiping down the tables who stared us down, but still didn't offer us a seat. So, sometime after the stare down, we eventually gave up and just sat ourselves. Shame on us, I suppose, for wanting to give your restaurant some money. And it didn't end there. It took about 20 mins to place our order, but the food came out very quickly. However, we were completely ignored by our waitress after getting our food and had to get up whenever we needed anything; napkins, water, silverware, our check, plates. If the food didn't make up for it, I wouldn't go back if you paid me. But the food is great. Lesson learned: get the mussamon curry with chicken at a level 4 and do takeout only.

I think this place has gotten way too popular way too quick. I have been here several times and each time it is busier and busier and the food is slacking more and more. Last time we were there on a Saturday, we arrived around 5:15 and barely made it out by 7. There were 2 of us. And that was the problem, there were only 2 of them and a few young boys clearing a table here and there. I get it, they were low staffed. But it always seems they are low staffed. I guess you could call for takeout. But as we sat there the phone rang over and over again. I envisioned a singular angry, hungry person on the other end hitting redial. A lil much for my nerves as I just got off work and wanted a nice chill dinner. I almost got up to help them, it was that painful. I really hope they get the help they need to succeed, they have the makings of a place that could do pretty well. Omaha loves it's Asian food :) I'll give it 2 stars for potential and past experiences where the food wow'd me

This is easily the best Thai food in Omaha in my and all my friends' opinions. I stick with curry typically ($8) but have tried bites of other dishes as well. To Note: - The place is much better on the inside than the outside - A 5 spice level is similar to a 7 in most places I've eaten - They don't sell alcohol (Which makes the bill so much cheaper)

Went here for some take-out to reward ourselves for surviving a long work week. Little did i know that I would narrowly escape death at Salween Thai. This is what happened as I was ordering at the cash register. Me: "Can i get a Chicken Pad Thai and Thai Tea?" Waitress: "Okay. How spicy?" *Distracted by football game playing on the side* Me: "Um... spicy." Waitress: "so.. 10?" Me: " Yeah sur.... WHOA WAIT!!" Waitress: "It is on a scale of 1-10" Me: "Scratch that. 6 please!" Other than evading death by thai chilis, the pad thai was really delicious. It was a huge portion and had balanced flavors. Their thai tea is one of my favorite in Omaha, with a good ratio of tea to milk. Their dining area was well lit and very clean. Decorations were very modern and well done. The connected thai/asian grocery store next door was also a pretty good indicator that this was gonna be authentic Thai food. Overall, wonderful food and will visit again... real soon!

I won't say it's the BEST pad thai I've ever had but it far surpasses many. the environment is welcoming and clean - staff is friendly and service SUPER fast. I ordered a level 7-8 spicy "don't mind if my nose is runny but still like to feel my lips". It was perfect :)

I tried this place for lunch based on good Yelp reviews. I ordered the deep fried egg rolls and Pad Thai Combo. First, the egg rolls. What's in them besides rice noodles and rolled in 15 egg roll wraps. It's more wrap than filler. The egg roll sauce is standard and nothing special. The Pad Thai Combo. This dish says it is mixed meat and shrimp. Yes, but just one shrimp. With the tail still on, buried underneath. Yum. How I love the scale tail crunching around with my mouth full of Pad Thai. Lastly, the Pad Thai was just mushy. I've had better. I know I came here based on good reviews, however, mine was not good. This review is simply on the two things I purchased for lunch. Perhaps other items are better to order.

1st Thai restaurant that I have ever been, that charged for rice. And for those who wonder, rice is not included with any of the plates. Food is ok, not the best. As for the service, I would never come back to this place since most of the waitress here are extremely rude. Also they charged 20% tips automatically if you have 6 or more people, and with this kind of rude services, I don't even think they deserve any tips!! Very unhappy customer!!

I was pretty hyped about trying this place, but found it just ok with decent service. My friend and I visited here for lunch last week, and found the place already 3/4 full at 11:40am. We were seated right away and were able to order two iced coffees. We tried out the fried meatball appetizer, and yum wun sen salad for my friend and the green papaya salad Laos style and tom kha gai for me. The meatballs were good, slightly spongy texture that made you think something beside straight beef was in the mix, but good flavor and nice chili dipping sauce. The green papaya salad laos style was horrible, and this was the dish I was most looking forward to. It looked dull and grayish when it came out (not the bright, crab laden picture I had been expecting) and had a two day old seafood spell wafting out from it. Still, I labored on and tried some and it not only smelled like seafood past its prime, that is what it tasted like too. I had ordered it at spice level 3, and found it overwhelming spicy. I normally do not send back dishes, but this was one that had to be sent back. The other salad, yum wen sen, was much better. It had glass noodles with mixed seafood (mostly shrimp and krab) with lots of cilantro and was a huge portion but a milder spice even though it was also level 3. The tom kha gai had great flavor but also had chunks of lemongrass and galangal that were very hard still and weren't very edible. I loved the flavor, very bright lemongrass with the creamy coconut/sour lime and just a hint of spice at level 3, but I was pulling lemongrass and glangal out of the soup with every bight. I will give this place another go, but for my first experience it wasn't spectacular. Maybe I had too high of expectations, I had been reading yelp and other reviews for a couple weeks before hand but found just ok food, good prices and decent service.

We ordered two noodles to go. But they didn't put tableware into the bag. The noodles were so spicy that I could not eat more after one bite. And the springs rolls taste bad too. I'll never come again.

The food's terrific and the prices are terrific. We've gone multiple times and no matter what heat level we request, some items (particularly the papaya salad, for some reason), are screamingly hot. I would like to point out that we are not Pace Picante Mild Salsa-loving honkies. My wife is a hot wing connoisseur and I love hot salsas, jerk chicken and other spicy dishes. We both like hot food. That said, sometimes Salween's food can be at the top of our tolerance scale. So last night we experimented -- we ordered dishes that we'd had in the past, but at drastically lower heat levels. Nothing higher than a 2. Her Drunken Noodles were perfect. Spicy, but not too hot. My Massaman Curry was absolutely perfect. Both were at what we'd call a 6.5 on the heat scale. But that Papaya Salad...sweet child o'mine, that was really, really hot. My hypothesis is that all dishes start out at a certain heat level (probably a 6) and if you say you'd like a 7 or above, they amp it up. Again, the food's terrific. Very good. But if you can't take the heat steer clear of Salween. Or order carefully.

I recently saw a friend's Facebook post about this place, which came with a photo of Tom Kha Gai soup. She gave it a very positive review, so the girlfriend and I set out to try it. We recently had takeout from another longstanding Thai restaurant here in Omaha, and honestly, it was not great. We had an agenda: to find a new Thai restaurant that we could be excited about. This place turned out to be it. In a nutshell: super friendly happy service, an honest heat/spice rating (we ordered 8 on a scale of 1-10, and we were glowing), generous portions at super affordable prices (one appetizer, one soup, two entrees and a dessert for $30) and last but not least, awesome flavors. Appetizer: spring rolls, 3 big ones, cut in half and served with a light dipping sauce; Soup: Tom Kha Gai, featuring chunks of lemongrass, thin slices of galangal, kaffir lime leaves, bell pepper, loads of thinly sliced chicken breast in a spicy coconut broth; Entrees: Pad Thai with Pork, seasoned noodles with finely chopped seasoned pork with bean sprouts and chopped peanuts, and Green Curry with Chicken, huge bowl with white meat chicken, bell pepper slices, Thai eggplant, all in a simmering seasoned coconut curry broth; Dessert: Pandan ice cream - a large dish of bright green scoops, not too sweet, reminiscent of green tea ice cream. Pandan is a plant that is featured in many Asian dishes. Look it up - Pandanus amaryllifolius Nothing was overly sweet or salty like so many Asian restaurants I've been to. The flavors were fresh and what I believe to be as authentic as can be. Maybe it's because there's a Thai grocery store next door. One of the best aspects to us (besides the awesome food and service) is that it is an easy walk from our house. The neighborhood just keeps getting better and better.

I was surprised that it took me one year to eat here. Very good food and decent staff. Probably would have got five stars if their spice levels were optimized. If you are a spice person order about 5 or 6. If you are one of the sweaty, red faced or teary eyed persons when you have spice ,2 or 3 is your zone. After level 5 different cooks have different ideas of spice levels, so at that point it does not matter as we don't have the palette to tell the difference between a level 6 ave level 8. Not that i am complaining. I suppose that is one of the perks you get for being Indian- handling spice levels !! Definitely would recommend this place but have patience during their rush hours. The service may get slow but the food is worth the wait. Cheers.

I ordered takeout. As this was my first time, I elected to go in to order and wait. Unfortunately they forgot I was waiting, and when I checked back it had been sitting there ready to go, I suspect for quite some time. It took 30+ minutes for my pad Thai woon se and spring rolls. Overall, I liked the food, my noodles were sort of broken down, but not sure if that's because they sat so long...I will go again, would try the traditional pad Thai next time around.

The most authentic Thai food in Omaha. It doesn't get any better than Salween Thai. SO delicious,so creative and so fresh. The service is exceptional and the prices are more than fair. I adore this cute little restaurant and highly recommend it.

New to Omaha and my first time here. I was really excited to find my go-to Thai spot on my first try. I had green curry, perfectly spiced and right amount of sweet. Huge portion for $7.95. Service was good too, a bit slow at first but very attentive after that. Would recommend it and will definitely be back.

I love this place! Close to home, and have yet to order something that wasn't flavorful and well prepared. I can't speak to the service, as I order almost exclusively to go from places like this.

I've been coming here exclusively for my Thai food fix since it opened. I love the fact that it has an adjacent grocery store so I can experiment at home. Everything I've ordered here is amazing and I recommend it to everybody I know, and everyone I've known loves it too. Excellent food, perfect service, affordable prices. Ten stars.

Fantastic restaurant owned and staffed by Karen refugees from Burma. The yellow curry is the best I've had in Nebraska and you cannot beat the price. They were recently voted as one of the top restaurants in Omaha by the World Herald and could not be more deserving. Definitely worth a trip to midtown! I cannot wait to come back.

Went here for lunch with a few colleagues. It was a weekday, like 1130 or so, and it was mostly empty, and was never totally full. If you don't know it's there, you might pass it--it's kind of in an odd, rundown stripmall. It's pretty clean here, from what I can tell, so that's a good start. When I came in, I was immediately greeted by a server, and within a few minutes, was seated and had a glass of water in front of me. There's a tv on the wall, and a few simple decorations on the wall. The three of us ordered a few things. There was a fried shrimp appetizer (I'm allergic, so I didn't try it), that they said was good and the samosa appetizer was decent too. I had read other reviews that said it might be spicy, so we all ordered lower spice level numbers--like 4s or 5s--and all agreed that we could have gone higher. Tofu pad thai was good. I hear the shrimp fried rice was good as well. I had the massaman curry with tofu (on the menu, they list it with meat, but if you ask, they'll make it meatless). The curry was good, but since I ratcheted down the spice level, I was missing the spice. Will ordered it next time. The food came out within a few minutes of our getting appetizers, so serving speed was good. The server left a decanter of water at the table, so we could serve ourselves, but the server was still pretty attentive and checked up on us a good amount. All in all, not the most flavorful Thai ever (again, maybe it's because I lowered the spice), but a safe bet. Decent prices, fast service. One odd thing--once we asked the check to be broken up, the server was just sort of writing our amounts on post-it notes. Eventually, we got real receipts with our totals on it, but it was just quirky.

We saw the restaurant on FB and decided to try it. There was four of us and we ordered four appetizers, which we received one at a time, the last at the end of our meal. Waitress spilt part of my husband's food on his lap. Food was AWESOME but service was horrible. I suggest they hire someone who knows how to run the place and stick to what they do well, cook.

Freshest ingredients, great Thai Went here on a weekday, a bit after the lunch hour rush. Ordered takeout for one: Spring Rolls, Tom Kai Gai, and Pad Thai. Since I was there for the food, I can't say much about the space, other than it was a bit small, probably seats around 25 people at most. To the food. Spring Rolls - great, fresh and delicious. This is how it should be. Everything was crisp and tasty. I could eat these all day and not feel too guilty. Wonderful. Tohm Kai Gai - coconut milk and spicy soup. Great ingredients again, fresh and plentiful. You could tell it was freshly made - it separated while I drove home. Awesome. Pad Thai - I ordered mine at a spicyness level 10. It was hot, but not something I couldn't finish in one sitting. Should probably have ordered it a bit more spicy, but you can't win them all. Got the combo pad thai, which came with shrimp (tail-on), pork and chicken. Don't recall any beef, but I may have overlooked it. Overall, great food, costed around $26 for me this time. A bit pricy, but hey, fresh food costs that sometimes.

Been here twice now. Mixed results. First time we ordered rice meatballs but they were out so we got spring rolls instead. Maybe I don't know anything about spring rolls but I thought they were bland. For mains, I ordered #30 basil chicken at 5 spicy. It was delicious! 5 was my perfect spicy level. My husband ordered green pork curry at level 9. He thought it was delicious. The second time was for lunch and service was bad. There were three or four waitresses, two tables. My main course was brought out way early. I had to stare at it. We thought they forgot about the appetizer we ordered and considered canceling it but then they served it. We finished the appetizer before my husband's meal arrived. My dish was drunken noodles with chicken and it was very tasty though it was way more spicy "level 5" than the last time I ordered a five. We wondered if I got the 9 and my husband's dish was the "5". He ordered a dish that's name is in Thai, cold salami-type salad with peppers and was ordered at a 9 spicy but wasn't spicy at all. Didn't really like it, but it might not have been his thing. I will definitely eat here again because I'm sure they'll get the service improved.

Two stars because the service was just horrible. The food was good for the price though. The wait for the food was incredibly long. The waitress never came to check on us and never gave us refills until we kept asking. I couldn't just walked out without paying because the waitress never came with our check after we sat there for a good 15 minutes waiting. I ended up just going up front to pay. I wouldn't come here again. It's not worth my time.

Very rarely do I feel compelled to do a review of a restaurant but I love this place. I was born in Thailand, lived their for 12 years and go back twice a year. I feel like I have a good grasp of good Thai food. Since moving to Nebraska, I've been searching for a restaurant that can cook food as good as my mother or the homeland. This place isn't as good as mom's but it's as good as it'll get. Their Laos style som-tom and larb moo takes me back to Isaan. What I also love is the fact that they have sticky rice, which I haven't found in many other Thai places. Their sai au was good, I wish the sausages had more flavor. We went there the other day and had pad pak boong. Which tasted just like how my mom makes it (no complaints there) and their fried fish with chili sauce. I wasn't a huge fan of the bell peppers but the fish was done right. We also had their sweet rice with mango, it was okay. Wasn't fantastic and probably won't be ordering it again. The only thing that's stopping me from giving this place 5 stars is the slow service. Other than that, I love it.

The Phad Thai here is also THE BEST thing ever. Yum! I had only ever had the curry and an additional noodle dish. Both of those were great. Usually, I do not like Phad Thai because it is too sweet, but here it was amazing! Plus the portion was so large, I had enough food for lunch and for dinner. It was simply amazing! I feel like I might never order anything else...but I know that's not true because so far every meal has been so tasty.

Ate lunch here today and it was very good, had the spring rolls, the egg rolls for apps, beef larb salad very good, chicken red curry also very good and the chicken drunkin noodles also tasty.Beware there spice level is higher than most Thai places in town,my wife ordered 3 and it was great for her(moderate) to me,I ordered 6 and it was perfect I wouldn't go hotter because you cant taste the food,I normally am a 7-8 spice level.Very clean restaurant and service was okay, food came out in a sort of uneven manner.I will go back its one of the better Thai places in town.

Great new Thai restaurant in Omaha! Loved the Papaya salad Thai style. At a level 5 spice it was plenty spicy!! So fresh and tasty. The Shrimp Tom Yum soup also had excellent flavors and was spicy. My only complaint was we ordered the pad see yew but received the pad Thai. Definitely will be back and will try the recommended pad see yew. Nice, clean atmosphere with attentive service. The night I went service wasn't slow at all. Maybe they've improved upon this?

This place has some amazing food, and at a reasonable price. I had the pad thai 7/10 spicy. It was very tasty. My girlfriend got a seafood delight type dish with noodles which was also very good. I highly suggest giving this place a try. You won't be disappointed.

3rd visit today. Had Pad Thai Shrimp with #7 spice level. Also had the Thai Tea that was very tasty as well. Cool, attentive waitress didn't mind that we had 5 people and 5 separate checks. She was all smiles and focused on treating us right. I shall return

My BF and I love this place. I always get the Thai noodle soup and think it's outstanding. We usually end up paying about $18 with tips so price-wise it's very reasonable. My only suggestions would be a)take the TV out. It seems out of place and it's usually playing Disney channel which is not exactly my preferred background noise. b)I think it's a family restaurant and some of the younger daughters serve. They're nice and courteous but not always very attentive or professional - which I understand because I'm pretty sure they're like 14. Either way - nothing to keep us from coming back again and again. Great restaurant!

Awesome Thai food! This is exactly what Benson needed. The prices are affordable. Beware they are heavy on the heat!!! You might want to order a spice level 2-3 below what you usually get.

Had the Pad Thai combo which is rice noodles with beef, chicken and shrimp. The dish doesn't come with white rice but I recommend you add it. They will ask you what you want the spiciness level to be on a scale of one to ten with one being not spicy at all and ten being extremely spicy. I ordered my dish at a four, which was very spicy. I recommend being conservative with your choice unless you really like your food to be spicy. The dish itself was fresh and we'll prepared, the shrimp was not at all gamey even though there isn't an ocean for 1000 miles in any direction. The noodles were great but the beef and chicken were a little over done. My only complaint would be that the service was somewhat subpar. It was lunch and they were pretty busy but our server was obviously overwhelmed and was slow to serve and refill drinks. The place was nice and nicely decorated but small and a bit drafty with all the traffic in and out. Pricing was very reasonable for the portion size and the seating was acceptable. There was no wait to be seated but people arriving after us did wait for a while. The food took a long time but I'm not sure if that can be attributed to the server or the kitchen. Overall, great menu selection and very authentic taste. Great choice for Thai.

The spring rolls and rice meatballs were delicious. The Pad Thai had a weird burnt taste and the red curry had too much fish sauce. It's a little greasy. Not the best Thai in the city. That title still belongs to Laos Thai Market.

My husband and I came here for dinner after reading the reviews on Yelp! We both love thai and were so excited to try a new restaurant...since we have left we cannot stop talking about Salween! We ordered the spring rolls, pad thai with chicken, and my husband had the panang curry with beef... phenomenal! The spring rolls were fresh and delicious, but would order something else next time as they were not stellar. The chicken pad thai was incredible! I ordered it at a spice level of 3 and it was perfect for me. We loved the panang curry with beef, ordered at a spice level 5. The flavors were really spot on. The restaurant was clean and the service was very friendly. Honestly we couldn't have enjoyed the panang and the pad thai any more than we did. It was perfect and we are looking forward to returning soon! We are so happy to have found a new restaurant to add to our list.

Best Thai food in town. The spice scale is not like your typical 'Americanize' scale. I ordered a 3 and it was spicier than any 10 I have received elsewhere. The green papaya -- Lao style is the bomb. My husband and I went back two days later because we were craving it. The Pad Thai and egg rolls is also great. Service can be improved but the food is great.

I'm jumping up and down because now there's a great thai restaurant in east Omaha! Came here for dinner last night and contemplating going back again tonight, and maybe for lunch on Monday.... Really tasty, authentic-seeming (never been to Thailand...can't tell ya but there were SEVERAL menu options I had never heard of before--and I eat a lot o' thai), and easy on the wallet. Started with Thai-style papaya salad (you can order Laos style, which has shrimp paste), which is a favorite of mine. I usually get a spice level 7 at another not-to-be-named Thai restaurant in NorthWest O, but ordered a 5 because I heard they're a bit hotter here. Holy shrimp balls it was HOT. Easily could've been considered a 9 or 10. Flavors of sour, sweet and spice were great though, once I downed 3 glasses of water and lusted after my friend's milk-based drink. Also for starters, some fresh spring rolls which were light on flavor but not the filling. Lots of beautifully slivered veggies and 3 decent-sized shrimp filled each of the 4 rolls--I may ask for extra herbs next time. For entrees, we had Pad Thai with pork, which was the best I've ever had with it's crispy but not chewy pork, well-seasoned but not oily noodles, and generous portion. Also had the green curry with chicken which came out in a boat of a bowl with lots of veggies, including thai eggplant (I put this in my green curry at home, so I was happy to see that addition). I like my curries a little on the thicker side, but this was almost soupy. Just a preference. Ordered both the entrees at a spice level 3 because I had been burned before--kinda wished I had stuck to the 5, it was just too mild. Another friend, who likes a lot o' heat, got an 8, which I swore was the same level of heat as our 5 earlier (maybe the dried crushed peppers were hotter?). My only complaint would be about the spice level--it was very inconsistent. I intend to be a regular at Salween Thai and it's neighboring grocery store because of the great prices, fantastically fresh food and friendly service.

Good Thai food! Placed an order for take out and food was ready when they said it would be. Our order was correct and all of the food was good. We asked for a spice level of 3 and it was pretty spicy! I am not a huge fan of spicy food so I would maybe ask for a 2 next time!

Our food was delicious. PadThai was amazing. The spring rolls were fresh and served with a delightful dipping sauce. A very helpful server as well.

This is the place to go if you want real Thai food. Having tried multiple Thai restaurants in LA, San Francisco and New York, this place is by far the best in terms of food quality and taste. There is nothing on the menu that is not tasty and delicious. My favorite dishes are Red Curry, pad see ew, drunken noodle and everything else. Basically I have started to order from top of the menu and intend to try all their items
