I have not had Pettit's Pastry products in an age. I did some work for my friend this morning, which included an assortment of donuts and pastries...all fresh, all delicious. Combined with a good hot cup of coffee, pure heaven. Since my friend picked up the donuts, I don't know all the details that some other reviewers might have shared..All I know is that the product was very tasty and satisfying. Keep up the great work!

The shop was clean, the staff was friendly and the donuts so good

My mother and I spend all of last month trying to find the best wedding cake in Omaha, for my May 2012 wedding. After accomplishing 8 different tasting appointments in Omaha, with 8 separate bakeries, we finally found the best cake on our last appointment. Denise at Pettit's Pastry ( allthingsiced@cox.net ). Her cakes are INCREDIBLE! *Don't be misled by the wedding cake images they have on their website... I know some of them look kinda old-school in the wedding gallery. You seriously MUST meet with Denise and see her book of past wedding cake designs. Trust me on this one. Email her.* The cakes at Pettit's Pastry are the most delicious, pillowy moist, flavorful cakes in Omaha. Hands down. Nobody even comes close to their cake. I cannot recommend Denise enough. She's a real gem to work with, and is super enthusiastic about cake decorating. A true modern artist.

This place should have bus tours arriving every morning around 7 AM, I ran a trucking terminal on N 11th and every time I called a Driver Meeting my people knew that Pettit's Pastry donuts and rolls would be served along with hot, fresh truck driver coffee. Attendance was pretty near 100% every time even though they knew somebody was gettin' their ass chewed. Had to be the Pettit's.

I had much, much better donuts. I was teaching a class in Omaha and decided to bring donuts. OUCH $14 for a dozen donuts and donut shop coffee? Sorry Pettit but donuts are donuts are donuts. Yours taste no better than QT or Bakers. Get over your name and giva a damn discount for takunk 12 fat-pills off your shelves!

Pettit's Pastry was somewhat close to my hotel that I was staying at and I decided to see how they compared to some of the donuts shops from where I live. I must say that the selection is pretty decent, but the flavors and taste are lacking. As I prefer jelly filled donuts (strawberry or raspberry filled mainly), I had to try Pettit's version. I must say I was overly unimpressed with the flavor. They do bar style jellies which is different, and they put a light frosting layer on top as well. The jelly is very artificial in flavor and taste, and is more like the cheap jelly fills you can get at grocery stores. The donuts themselves do not have a great dough for that great taste of others I have eaten. A Meh experience is what I got and I must say the donuts are not worth the price you pay. Other items might taste better, but for donuts do try to find a better place.

Oh my! You have to special order them but the long johns filled with banana pudding with the peanutbutter chocolate top!? CRAZY CRAZY amazing! I don't understand why they are no longer on the menu but it is nice I can still get them

Worthy place to get donuts, but nowhere near the 5-star range that some afford it (but this opinion is just based on a couple of varieties of donuts). Nice folks behind the counter. Coffee could be much improved.

Fantastic donuts! Artisan donuts is a dying art. A must stop every time I am in Omaha now!

best glazed donuts in town

Pettit's is the best donut shop in Omaha. I can actually say I've never had better donuts anywhere. They are open early, and late, semi-reasonably priced, and they have milk, chocolate milk to go along with. One of the best things about them is they are still very good even at the end of the day, not just when they are fresh. They also have great cake and cookies. Without question, the best item they have is the chocolate frosted/chocolate filled roll. Usually in a case right next to the tall cake case on the north side of the store. Any of the chocolate frosted items are highly recommended. Also great glazed, and cinnamon rolls as well, both fried and old-fashioned. There are no tables, and there's no area to eat your delicious purchase, unless you stand outside and eat the frosted goodness (which is what I do). Whatever you do, get down there. There is also a west Omaha location now which I have not tried. ------------------------------------ UPDATE: Our latest trick has been to go down before they close up, and they're already making tomorrow's donuts, so you can get some super freaky fresh donuts at 8:30 or 9:00 PM. Oh yeah, the chocolate frosting is still the best. I'd eat it w/o a donut, right out of a vat. In my opinion the fried donuts are better than the baked, but that's like saying La Casa is better than Pizza Shuttle...OBVIOUS.

We were in Omaha for a bodybuilding competition a few weeks ago. Like every bodybuilders dream, my coach woke me up at 4:30 am before my show and told me donuts would do my body good. SCORE! So right away I yelp'ed the closest donut shop to our hotel and it must have been fate because this place was literally only 2 blocks away AND was open at 4:30 in the morning! So we hopped in the donut-mobile and arrived at this shop within minutes. As soon as we walked in the pungently sweet smell of freshly baked donuts hit my nostrils. The varieties were endless and as I mixed and matched a dozen donuts my anticipation to snarf these beauties only grew. We took them back to the hotel and dove right in. They were amazing!! I am normally a white frosted cake donut kinda girl, but the traditional glazed donut with white frosting and sprinkles changed my life. They were fantastic!! I also thoroughly enjoyed the German chocolate with cream filling long john. This will for sure be our go-to place when we are in Omaha again!

My favorite bakery since I was a kid!!! Whenever I have to go home to Omaha I always have to make this stop!

Ok this is a weird one and the stars are based on a multitude of thoughts: 1. I think they were understaffed, so although the lady was nice to me, she wasn't the nicest to her fellow employees, although her fellow employees were very sweet and helpful, so they went down at first for that, b/c a foundation of a good business is to treat your employees well, but then I they went back up b/c 2. they are a local business with a longstanding history it seems, and although the lady was crabby, the other employees weren't, despite how busy they were on a friday afternoon. 3. Although I ordered a whole sample of donuts/pastries, I only had the pleasure of eating two kinds: the neopolitan which was as good as it looks, and it looks so delicious, and the butterfinger donut, which was the one I was REALLY looking forward to, fell short. The donut itself is just chocolate cake and has this weird chicken flavor aftertaste that was so pronounced that I do not think I'll ever order this donut again. The sprinkles of crushed butterfinger was the best bit, and I wished they would have infused that more into that actual donut and swap it out for that weird chicken-ness I got from it instead! 4. They gained another star up though after I delivered the donuts to my colleagues, they devoured the other flavors, which the lady picked out for me to be their most popular donuts, and everyone kept asking where I got them from b/c they were the best pastries they have had in omaha. Plus there was a line behind me, so I can't base it on my own personal experience, but adding some stars from others experiences. Anyways, I'll definitely have to try more of their other "favorites" and leave a better personal response another time, and esp try their cakes, as many were in line to order/pick up cakes! hmm

Pettit's was my first doughnut experience when moving to omaha as a freshman in college due to the near location. We used to walk down there from the dorms when we would wake up too late to eat at the dining halls on the weekends. As we got older, we would bike and sometimes drive because we moved further away. Pettit's was always a tasty treat, and although probably the culprit to my freshman 15, the smell of doughnuts when driving by always reminds me of being 18 and a free college student. They make all their pastries on site, and have doughnuts, muffins, and the basic pastries. They do cakes and the usual catering type jobs, and the people who work there are so sweet (harhar), calling you sugar and honey (a result of working with sugar and honey?) I stick to the simple glazed and usually pick one other type to try for the day. The first bite of the glazed doughnut is a soft chewy bite, with glaze flaking on your lips and cheeks as you dive in. Pure doughnut bliss. I've found one doughnut place I like even better than Pettits but you're going to have to travel to philly for that one! Oh and I forgot- if you visit on saturdays near closing you can get a huge box of whatever they have left for 50% off. talk about a steal.

It is interesting that other review's below are pretty divided based on locals vs non locals. Locals love this place, non locals seem not to like it much. I love old school doughnut places, and love this place. My favorite doughnut place in Omaha by far. When we moved to Amsterdam my sister-in-law ordered a cake with the cherry jelly doughnut filling as the middle layer.... amazing!

Delicious doughnuts from a local business - that's all you need to know. But since I'm physically incapable of being short winded I'll add that i would only recommend buy doughnuts from Pettit's, as there are other local bakeries I love more.

I have a theory about donut shops. Crappy service = great donuts. Friendly service = questionable donuts. Now that we have established I am a geek who likes to formulate theories, let me get to the review... We were staying at the Hilton nearby. The man likes to taste donuts wherever we go. I looked up donut places on the iPhone and found this place. I called to make sure they are open on a Sunday morning, and if they serve other breakfast items. Me: Hi, I am calling to know if you serve any breakfast items? Woman: We are a pastry shop (in a surly tone). We don't serve no breakfast. Me: Really? Well, I always thought some pastries are breakfast items. Like, croissants. Woman: .... Me: Well, I guess that answers my question. This was a good sign. Note my theory earlier. Crappy service = good donuts. We got in the car and drove to the location. We were greeted by a lady who was all smiles, and cheerful. Uh oh. What happened to the one that answered the phone earlier? This lady was talkative, cheerful, suggested a few donuts for us to try... all that good stuff. The man got a variety of donuts. See the pic I posted for further details. He usually finishes half a dozen donuts with ease, but he couldn't finish even one. I tasted them and 4 of the 6 were just bad. The only saving grace was the cinnamon donut, which was quite average. We threw away most of the donuts after taking a bite or two of each. Very disappointed. I will stick to places with overall crappy service. They usually have better donuts.

This is a review for the 156th and Pacific store. First had Pettit's Pastries at the Omaha Chocolate Festival and they immediately became our bakery of choice. Wonderful selection, good prices, really friendly staff. Yum!

Seriously one of the best gems in Omaha. When I worked in NoDo, one of the things that was a brand standard was to have local pastries. It did not take much convincing after they tried Pettit's. They have old school charm and flair. Don't know what to get? ask for a favorite of the counter person. It may soon be your go to. Mine is the double chocolate long john. Nobody else in town makes them. We have a ton of donut shops in Omaha, but none feels more timeless than Pettit's. You may be the only one when you walk in, but turn around and there is a line. Totally worth it every time. Located right next to Sol's pawn shop in an area of town that seems to have been forgotten, get it while you can. I have not tried the other location and won't due to my love for the original best donuts in town

Do-nuts, doughnuts, death from the fryer... however you call them those puffed up, glazed, melt in your mouth, blow up your blood sugar morsels of death are a treat. I was nearly alone in the parking this morning at 845am. I walked into the store and was greeted by the scent of donut shop and sugar. Now there is a difference in smells between a donut shop and a bakery. There was no aroma of bread as you might expect more of a hearty sugar scent. Rows upon rows of glorious donuts in all their lovely configurations. I needed two dozen... well I didn't -need- two dozen, who needs two dozen donuts? I volunteered to bring in some to the office this morning. I surrendered myself to the lady behind the counter when she asked if I wanted to pick them out. Nope, you put yourself in the hands of the professionals when it comes to picking out what should go in your mouth. I told her I wanted a dozen donuts and a dozen bars/others. Total for all came to less than $33.00 and they take all kinds of plastic. I was nearly mugged when I walked into training this morning. There was much moaning and looking for milk. Now as a diabetic, I have to be careful about my sweets. I wasn't planning on eating one, I do find happiness in watching others eat things I can't but there was an apple fritter with my name on it. It was worth the headache! Located on 16th and Cass, it's a hop, skip and jump away from my apartment. Donuts might be a regular thing in the office!

We love Pettit's! My top favs are the the glazed donut holes and the cake donuts with chocolate frosting. Customer service is always top notch!

Great doughnuts. We had a nice variety jelly filled cream filled cake glazed and cinnamon rolls. Employees were very friendly and patient while I was taking my time choosing doughnuts. Would def recommend when staying in Omaha.
