Yet another hole in the wall type of joint...and like the others I've been to over the years, a very solid and tasty restaurant...great authentic food, especially the pastor tacos...had 4 as an appetizer...yes, that's how I roll...then I ordered the huevos and chorizo...was excellent...and it came with the best beans and rice I've probably ever had...which is saying something since usually beans and rice are fairly negligible....prices were excellent...service was good and friendly...would I come back? oh hell yes...especially since there's more egg dishes to try...

We moved from Texas a couple of years ago, and we've been in pursuit of the best Mexican food in Omaha ever since. It took us awhile to find this joint, but now that we have, it is a weekly stop. La Casita is the only place that gets it ALL right. Everything has flavor and the right amount of heat/spice. Tuesdays are extra-special because tacos are on sale. The best!!! Taco Tuesday Price = $1.25

I stopped in here when I was visiting from out of town. I love Mexican food and the more authentic the better. I rate them on presence of Gringos (less is more) and English spoken (more is less). Well this place scores high on both. I am the only Caucasian here and Spanish language Futbol on the TV. So far so good. I missed the lunch rush so it's pretty slow. I order an iced tea and it's sweet. This happens in the South all the time but usually not this far above the Mason-Dixon. First treat, the serve bean dip with the chips rather that the old regular salsa...very good. I order a taco and burrito combo. Very tasty and only $9, seems like a deal to me. This is a good, solid and simple Mexican place. I don't see much to fault here.

This is the most unassuming place I think I have ever driven past. I had been reading reviews and trying to find a good time to go. Saturday night, in the middle of the snow and ice, Jason G and I brave the weather and the road conditions for tacos. You know when that craving hits it doesn't matter what's going on around you, you get in the car and get tacos. You know it is going to be good when you walk in and you are the only Anglo in the place. The menu is limited but so very worth it. The tacos are $1.75 each. I would eat them in a box and I would eat them with a fox! I also got a super burrito. lightly covered in Salsa Verde, queso blanco and crema (Mexican sour cream) and stuffed with pastor, rice and beans. It was another eye rolling in the back of you head, quasi-religious, I need a personal moment alone with my dinner. It was so good I ordered another 5 pastor tacos to take home and eat later. I can say with experience, they keep well on the counter and are just as tasty the next day. 2 tacos @ $1.75 1 Super Burrito @ $6.95 1 side of guacamole @2.00 (I think) Very reasonable and worth the effort!

I enjoyed La Casita quite a bit. I was always curious about this little taqueria on Park Ave. right next to Hanscom Park, and was glad the taco tour finally brought me here. The interior is no frills to the max: a cavernous bay with plenty of tables and chairs. Plus a TV dialed to Mexican television and a jukebox that, from what I was told by my dining partners, is usually blaring at an uncomfortable level. Cool. They easily accommodated our group of around 12 with a few minor adjustments. Nice. Taco wise, La Casita is on point. I ordered two tacos (tongue and pastor) for less than $2 each. They came out double-shelled with a nice amount of meat plus cilantro and onion (see pic). Of the two, I'd recommend the tongue -- a lot more juicy and flavorful compared to the greasy pastor. The table had both roja and verde salsas to slather on everything as well. Oh, add in complimentary chips and bean dip to start the meal -- always a plus. Next time I want to try the menudo, as many of the other patrons were enjoying it (it seems to be one of the house specialties). Bonus points: They had quite the array of DVDs, CDs and phone cards for sale at the counter. Need a Spanish edition three pack of animated Disney classics? La Casita is the place. Thanks Sarah G. for organizing this! Looking forward to the next adventure!

I was recommended to try La Casita from Matt and Aimee and I completely trust their taste in Mexican food. No doubt this place is a hole in the wall but I felt comfortable parking on the street and walking into the restaurant (even though there were metal bars on the door hah). It's pretty unassuming, just a few staff members on their dinner break tuning into the mexico futball game on the tube, a few hispanic families and other diners enojying their dinners. There is just one person seating and serving/taking orders, she was a real sweetheart, although there was a little bit of a language barrier for us on this visit. I wanted to try the tacos here, but perhaps since it was taco tuesday (discount taco day) the meat choices were limited. They were out of my favorites-cheek and al pastor. I opted for the enchiladas with ground beef- *gasp* out of ground beef too?? Ok chicken it was. We ended up with some tacos anyway with whatever meat they had left. I liked that I was given the option of flour or corn tortilla, the joint we usually frequent only offers corn. We tried the flour tortilla, I think I like the Corn better for the tacos but it was nice to try it and have an option. The complimentary beans and chips were gone in a flash, even though the chips seemed a little over cooked to me. My chicken enchilada dish was standard. Well prepared and I loved the sides (rice and beans with "salad"). It was a tad salty for me but the shredded chicken was good. I think if my heart wasnt set on that ground beef it would have been even better. Overall I have a lot more to try from this place but I think we just got off to a rocky start. I think the next time(s) will be better.

Favorite Mexican food in Omaha. The enchiladas are a great deal. Taco Tuesday's are also a great time to try this place.

I have no idea why I had never been here before the Taco Tour last week but I am really glad it was on the list. I ordered a lengua taco and a chicharron taco. My gf ordered a bean and cheese huarache. Everything was absolutely delicious including the complimentary chips n salsa. We have already been back since and everything was just as good as on the tour not to mention they have great horchata and they sell beer. This will definitely become a regular stop for us.

The menu is mainly spanish and since I don't speak spanish it was a little hard to communicate with the waitress. She was nice though and took our order quickly. She brought our drinks and chips and bean dip right away. The chips were slightly overcooked for my taste, but the bean dip was good. The food took 10-15 minutes. The chicken in the taco was well seasoned and juicy. The beans and rice were average. The beef enchilada was tasty. The red sauce has a nice smokey flavor too it. The chicken quesadilla is huge and loaded with cheese. Very flavorful. We didn't get any refills on our drinks and it took quite a while to get the waitresses attention for a togo box and the check. The food is 4 star but the service brought it down to a 3 overall.

You know how awesome it is when you go to a Mexican restaurant and they bring you free chips and salsa? Yeah, it's like the best part. What if I told you that La Casita brings you free chips and BEAN DIP?? I know, I know, it's almost too awesome and it definitely sets the stage for more delicious food to come. The tacos here are BOMB! I always get pastor (spicy pork) when I go for Mexican and also tried a chorizo one. They're the size you normally get at authentic places, maybe 6 inch diameter soft, warm corn tortilla and they definitely don't skimp on the fillings! Plenty of meat, diced onions, and a healthy dose of cilantro. They come with sides of limes, radish, and a grilled jalapeño (caution: HOT!!). I preferred the pastor hands down over the chorizo and the bite of asada I stole from my fiancé. He also got the beef fajitas which came in a huge portion with 4 tortillas, rice, beans, and avocado slices. Pair it all up with some Modelos and you are good to go! 3 tacos and a beer for less than 10 bucks? Hello perfection.

One of my top three Mexican choices in Omaha! The food is extremely authentic! Taco Tuesday is my favorite day (Lengua tacos can't be beat!!!!)....but don't miss out on the Pozole and Menudo on the weekends!

Taco Tuesday is a good deal. The chicken and steak tacos are their best dishes. The red salsa is better than the green salsa. Request a roasted jalapeno.

Great portions. Great flavor. Authentic. Not for off of I 80. Good price. You will not be dissappointed. The owner poor after location is a mist if your from town or visiting. I am driving through from San Diego. I love Mexican food and this place does not dissappointed. The music was a little load

I am from Southern California and it is sometimes hard to find REALLY authentic food out here in Nebraska, La Casita was not only extremely delicious, but it rivals many of the tiny/hole in the wall authentic locations in CA. I tried the asada torta and chicken super burrito-both were amazing, but the tostadas that came out to another patron looked beyond delicious (next time). Also, if you love extremely loud spanish juke box tunes, this is the place for you! I think their amplifier was set to 11. My one negative comment, which is why it is three stars and not more- nothing to do with the food- there were two extremely drunk women partaking in some delicious cervezas and one was so drunk that when she got up to leave she had..an accident. Unfortunately, the staff didnt clean her table or chair afterwards so some unsuspecting men took up residence at the table without knowing the potential gross factor awaiting them. It turned out okay-just kind of something that makes you second guess picking that piece of avocado off the table and eating it when it falls out of your taco :/ Anyway- if you are in the area or looking for great food I would recommend La Casita-but get it to go :)

Just tried La Casita for the first time, even thought it's not far from our house and we have driven by many times. Walked by it one evening and decided to try it. It's not fancy inside, just kind of plain but the food was really good and reasonable too. I had a chicken taco and my husband had chicken fajitas and Mexican soda. He loved the soda and found the fajitas were very filling. I enjoyed the taco and was glad I ordered just one, since two would have been too many. We're glad we tried LaCasita and plan to return again, since we live in the area.

Stopped in to this South Omaha restaurant with a friend over the weekend while we were looking for Mexican food. Food is authentic, very good (had the super burrito and a fairly strong margarita, both of which were excellent), and large portion sizes. Also quite affordable for how good the food quality was--while the restaurant is a bit of a hole in the wall, the prices are half what you would pay for lesser food in the Old Market area and I would say the tradeoff is easily worth it. I will be going back many times again to try out the other menu options as well. Actually, I'm pretty hungry now so I may go today for lunch.

I tried the seasoned pork burrito and it was pretty good. For being authentic, this place rates well. The chips they give you before you get your meal are fried fresh everyday. I would highly recommend coming here if you're in the area.

I've been coming to La Casita for about two years now and I haven't had a bad experience yet! I usually come for Taco Tuesdays and the tacos have been on point EVERYTIME! I also had the Torta from here and it was FIRE!! The staff has been the same since I've started coming an they've always treated me well. The place has always been clean which is a big plus for me. Parking is usually easy and it's great for groups and couples. If you decide to do a pick up order, call at least 10 minutes before you drive over. So bring an appetite, $5-$7 and your espanol!

We decided to try it here because of the great reviews and because it's in our general area of town. The restaurant is small with probably only about ten tables. It looks like they do a big carry out business. The server greeted us right away and brought us drinks immediately. It was a Friday night and 3/4 of the tables were filled. There were several televisions going and also a jukebox. The music from the jukebox was extremely loud. So loud that I wanted to ask that it be turned down. There was a group of men sitting right next to the jukebox who were playing the music and obviously enjoying it immensely. The men kept going to the bathroom in small groups. We couldn't decide whether they were going in to be intimate or to use drugs, I'm assuming the later. So we put up with the very very loud music but I'll tell you it was almost a dealbreaker. If it was warmer and there was somewhere else I wanted to go we would have left. After we ordered the server brought us chips beans and salsa. The small bowl of bean dip was wonderful. I'm not a fan of salsa in squirt bottles. I prefer a bowl. Two types of salsa, a peppery red and a green. I preferred the green which was pretty hot. My husband ordered the chilequiles with eggs. It was absolutely amazing. Very fresh flavors. My dish the carne asada was so tasty. All in all, we loved it. Definitely will go back!!

Wow, what a great place. Kind of a hole in the wall but delicious food. Everything is made fresh. And there is a lot of it. Very reasonable prices too. I had the Pastor tacos and at $1.75 they were a bargain. Tuesday's they are only $1.25! My wife had the burrito and had to take half of it home. It was a monster! All in all, we will be back.

We've been here several times now and I really like this place. I've had their huaraches a couple times and they were great both times. The past couple trips I've gotten their nachos. They are simple, basic, and delicious with just beans, meat, cheese, onions, tomatoes, crema, and a spoon full of guacamole. They're not covered in a bunch of unnecessary ingredients like so many Americanized Mexican places seem to think are needed. I got ground beef both times which may seem boring but has an awesome flavor. You can't stop eating them. And their horchata, yum. Get the large because you'll have have of it gone before your food even gets there.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
