Good mexican food and great atmosphere. My favorites are their tortilas.

we also have great service and Raul always take good care of us. I love the fresh of the food and the margarita's are great.

My wife and I have dined at this restaurant multiple times. The food is usually the best part of the experience and that's not saying much. The Food- The Chips are stale and the Salsa is watery. Our food always came out hot which is the best thing I can say for it, there is a large variety and we've tried multiple entree's but nothing has ever been... well, good. The Service- Bar none the worst part of Hector's Restaurant is the staff. They are slow and rude and the management is way worse.

Why oh why, didn't I check YELP before going?? The seafood enchiladas were as described by others (HORRIBLE!!) but the margharita, mora than compensated. We got the fish tacos also, which weren't bad, but did I mention the 5.95 cuervo gold margaritas??

I'm sad to see that both Hector's locations have such poor reviews. I go to the 83rd plz location all the time and I love it!!! I have always had good, fast service. The food is outstanding and very fresh. I love the veggie tacos. Perfect for a lighter meal when I don't want something too cheesy. I get the veggie tacos with a side of rice. I love their rice, very soft and fluffy and not overly seasoned. I also really like the potato and onion enchilada. Their enchilada sauce is very good. It has a slightly bitter taste (in a good way) that is really unique. The chile rellenos are super tasty. They are spicy! I like how they don't come out swimming in sauce. They put just enough sauce on top of the chile rellenos so that it's not too little or too much. I don't know if this is the most "authentic" but who cares?! It is very tasty, fresh food and the prices are very reasonable. I can't get enough of this place.

I've had to eat here here a few times due to a relative's love affair with Hectors. Last week I had a lunch meeting there and was reminded why I never choose to visit Hectors.. It was average at best and his prices are proud. True, ordering a taco salad was less than adventurous but it was basically what you'd expect at a hotel or Denneys.

Coming from california this is one of the best Mexican places in Omaha. In Omaha definitely 4 stars, in cali it would probably by 3-3 1/2 stars.

One of our favorite Mexican restaurants. The chips and salsa are great. Some of the entrees are marginal (like my husband just got the seafood enchilada: thumbs down- mock crab and teeny tiny shrimp) but others are great (green enchilada, nachos, etc). We especially like it now that it is nonsmoking.

Horrible, bland, over-priced, so so service. I ate one bite of my greasy fish taco & did not take another bite. I think they got the piece of fish from the HyVee frozen section The server should have noticed this. The chicken enchilada is tasteless. Blick.

This is one of those local places that has a very loyal following. The reason?? Good food, yes. Mostly good service, ok. But the real reason is Hector. He still hangs out at either location & mingles with the customers. Another big plus is his homemade flour tortillas. They are awesome and you can ask for them on most entrees. A great place for Friday night margaritas or Saturday dinner and movie - theater's next door.

I enjoyed the seafood enchilada a great deal. Chips and GREEN salsa are very good. Service has always been poor. I think the hostess is afraid of people. I go for the food but tolerate the poor service.

Ok, apparently most of the people on this board who have tried this restaurant aren't trying the right items (seafood enchilada seems to be a big miss). Go back and start with the queso fundido - it's a heart attack in a bowl but SOOOOO yummy. Then either get the grilled chicken tacos, the steak ranchero or enchiladas ala monterey. The steak ranchero is amazing with the tender beef tips, tomatoes, peppers and onions in a succulent ranchero sauce. Rice and beans are OK (nothing to write home about) and I have to agree with the service - it's mediocre at best on most occasions. But I always go back for the steak ranchero.

I like this place. My daughter and I go here pretty frequently. I agree with Kim J., the seafood enchilada, full of pseudo-seafood, is one to miss, but the tacos are fantastic, as is the salsa verde. Presidente margarita is always nice on a Friday night. Service has always been pretty good to good when I've been there, never had any issues.

I went here for a belated birthday dinner with my mother. The food was bland, salsa sub-par, they brought my mother the wrong order so we had more food than we could handle. The drinks tasted like pure alcohol instead of mixed, they gave me her drink and she mine. It was the most disappointing experience I have had in a long time. I will NEVER go back, not sure how they have won Best of Omaha so many times. I can list off so many places that have more flavorful food, with the same gastric ramifications....like Taco Bell.

Always a solid meal. The Chicken Taco salad is a go-to for me. A good portion meal with a balance of vegetables and shredded chicken, topped with guacamole, salsa, and sour cream. The queso as an appetizer is great too. Not to thick, not too runny, with a touch of heat. Seating is never an issue, they expedite service rather quickly and can handle pretty large crowds, so dont let a wait fool you.

I've eaten here a half dozen or so times over the last 15 years. My most recent visit was for lunch on a Wednesday in October. I had the Chimichanga Burrito with chicken. It was pretty good. I thought it was a bit on the dry side and needed a sauce or something on top, but other than that I liked it. It came with rice and beans. Beans were good. I never eat the rice. Complimentary chips and salsa were very tasty too. Service was friendly and attentive. Many of their wait staff have been there for years. Restaurant décor is dated. However, restaurant was clean and well-maintained. It's located in sort of a "has-been" area of town. They do have a newer location at 156th & Pacific that is nicer inside and in a "hipper" part of Omaha.

It's been a while since I have been to Hector's. But when I went I was really impressed with their veggie tacos. I would have never thought to put cabbage on them! I have heard their margaritas are pretty good, but at the time I was not of age and just haven't made it back to try one.

Surprisingly decent shrimp tacos but standard fare for $10. Gets the job done if you need to be cheap and fast.

Came in for a late lunch on a Thursday. There were other customers, but the place wasn't busy at all. We were waiting several minutes until we were seated at a table with a lemon on the floor. The whole place looks like it could do well with a good cleaning. I ordered the #3, shredded beef taco and a tamale. The tamale was okay, but the taco was lacking. Nothing remarkable about it and the shredded beef wasn't tender. Our server was awful, forgetting what we had ordered, and spilling soda all over the table the single time he came to refill our drinks. I also could have eaten another meal in the time it took for us to get our check. I'm going to stick to Fernando's next time.

I'd have to say there were more cons than pros for our dining experience. Pros: friendly server, free chips and salsa was good, she brought me lots of lemons, for my water, which I love. Cons: uncomfortably cold, guacamole was the worst I've ever had at a restaurant, my sister said her fish taco was burnt and it had more fried batter than actual fish, my seafood enchilada was mediocre. Overall, it was an ok experience but I wouldn't return unless someone was buying!

I know this is a favorite for many but I can never figure out way. Food is decent but with so many other better Mexican restaurants... not sure how it survives. Salsa is decent and the do have a spicy version that is good. Service was very good but again... hard to get over the average food.

Nothing Crazy here. Just a convenient neighborhood place close to the house. I usually end up with Fajitas, but they have a decent sized menu. All the usually Tex Mex suspects. Wait staff is always friendly. Place could definitely use some updating.

I went on Cinco de Mayo and was less than impressed. The margarita was great but the service and food was nothing special. There was a lack of communication between us and the server. I was given the wrong meat on my quesadilla and figure it was easier to just eat it then to complain and wait for a new dish. Also you are charged if you eat more than one round of chips and salsa...isn't that silly?

I have been to Hector's several dozen times now and I have never been disappointed. The food is consistently good (not mind-blowingly amazing, but good). What makes this worthy of 5 stars in my opinion is the combination of super low prices and excellent service. You get the full effect of a sit down meal and still get your fill for under ten dollars. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I consider this placed tried and true, and everyone I've recommended it to has left happy.

I guess if you want Mexican and you are in Omaha - this is one of the premier places to go. I have to admit that it was simply middle of the road and I wasn't really impressed. I do however love the 90s/Fresh-prince-era/Cocktail (Tom Cruise) style interior. So go ahead and give it a shot if you want Mexican and you are in town.

Nice neighborhood Mexican restaurant. Good food , good and prompt service, good prices. My favorite entree - seafood enchiladas.

I was first introduced to Hector's by my cousin and her husband, and I was hooked from my very first bite. You can watch the cooks make their tortillas in-house, and you can certainly taste the freshness... they are absolutely amazing. My go-to dish here is the flautas. They are fried little pieces of deliciousness! Served with beans and rice, they are incredibly filling. My only real complaint here is that the service is inconsistent. I have had wonderful servers here, and I have had a lot of really bad servers here. If they could fix that problem, I would give them five stars!

My husband I were hungry after shopping so we used the GPS and typed in Mexican food. Hector's came up the closes so we gave them a chance. The inside is not as nice as some places. It comes across a little simpler in nature or even a little dated. The service was good from our waitress and the food was actually pretty decent. The food is a little more authentic then some of the Mexican restaurants I've been to lately

We bought a deal from KETV to eat here. We have eaten at the west Hectors and enjoyed service and food. This place is outdated and we sat in a side room that was hot and stuffy. Food and service was quick. Probably won't eat at this location again though.

I just finished eating here this evening. I was in the mood for Mexican food tonight and decided to try someplace new. There were quite a few people here for a Monday. I even counted about three or four people getting takeout orders during my time here. A busy restaurant usually means good food. Like most Mexican restaurants they give you chips and salsa. I'm glad it was free because it was the worst salsa I ever had. It seriously tasted like Ketchup. I ordered a chicken enchilada, a potato enchilada, and a tamale. The tamale was covered in sauce which is fine except it was on the same plate as the enchiladas. Any other place would've put it on a separate plate since it's obviously a different sauce than what is put on the enchiladas. The tamale itself was inedible. It was like trying to chew a piece of rubber, I couldn't even eat it. While the enchiladas were bland tasting they were at least edible. I was overall disappointed with the food here. At least the staff was nice. I can't recommend anyone eating here. There are too many better choices in Omaha for Mexican food.

The food here is consistent, just not consistently great. Service tends to be a bit slow, and there is almost always a wait for dinner service or during the lunch rush. The spicy red salsa served with the chips is a nice plus that comes with your meal (it has a chipotle pepper-esque smokiness to it). I typically get the fish tacos, which although fairly good, just lack a bit of flavor. Dos X on tap and their house margaritas help make your Hector's adventure "A-OK" - when in the neighborhood looking for a reliable lunch, I know that Hector's can do the trick.

Hector's was a disaster for us. They should rename that place "Hector's Mexican-ish Food: For people that don't know the difference". My husband ordered a $9 burrito wrapped in an uncooked flour tortilla with a smidge of lettuce on the plate. No rice, no beans, not even IN the burrito. I ordered the vegi burrito which was worse and it was missing two of the ingredients that the menu said were supposed to be in there. I felt totally ripped off and should have just walked out after I cut into that thing but instead I gave it my husband since he was still hungry after eating his empty burrito. Never never never am I going back there again. The service was great though and I tipped our waiter well because it was not his fault that place sucks. However, I did write a note about it on our credit card receipt because I had to say something. By the way, if a restaurant is good, there is no bad or good dish to order. You should be able to order whatever you want as a paying customer and not have it turn out crappy.

Both the food and service were fine but nothing special. Stopped in with a friend of a friend and didn't really see a compelling reason to come back. Still, lots of people love this place...

Slowest service ever! Order was wrong, bill was wrong, we had to go to the bar to get refills ourselves because our waiter was AWOL. It took two hours to have dinner from the time we sat down until we left.

  • Christine B.

The food is pretty good, but nothing to write home about. The best thing about Hector's is that it's pretty middle of the road and safe, so it's a good spot to get together with people who are afraid to branch out or leave their comfort zone.

Had lunch here yesterday and as I was force feeding myself I thought Taco Bell probably would be tastier. I ordered a chile relleno, a chicken enchilada and a taco. Never in my life have I finished all of my rice and beans. I did this time because the rice and beans tasted better than my entree. The food was bland. It had no flavor, or seasonings. I had a good margarita. But thats all that was worth paying for...The service was good that's why I gave them two stars. The food gets one.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
