This is one of my favorite restaurants. It clearly helps that I live in the neighborhood, but what keeps me coming back is that the chef actually cares. Get the lemon pancakes.

Stepping inside what I remember as the old Noodle Zoo the interior appears unchanged, but Duggers smells like breakfast cooking. Since it was noon and I was craving salad, I looked over the varied menu past omelets, French toast, and beef diners to find the Veggie Burst salad. This large and freshly chopped salad contained artichoke, roasted red pepper and so much more. The house raspberry dressing was perfect. The sausage link from a companion's plate was really, really good, as was the coconut pie from the baked goods display case. There is a friendly feeling here. Thought and care are obvious in the quality of the food. Duggers fills a need in Dundee. I will return with friends.

My first stop at Duggers was today for lunch, and it will certainly not be my last visit. The hostess and wait staff were friendly and attentive, but not intrusive. With only a couple of exceptions, everything on the menu was under $10. I had already learned from other reviews to expect that even staple 'comfort food' would be delivered truly handmade, without the typical institutional-product shortcuts, and we were not disappointed. My friend had the Lemon Basil Salmon with Veggie Rice and was immediately impressed that the salmon was done to her liking: still moist in the center and not overcooked. She also raved about the flavor of the veggie rice. I opted for comfort food and chose the Meatloaf with Mashed Potato and Corn from the Daily Specials list. The potatoes were *real* potato, and the Meatloaf was what I always wished my own was like. It was lean, compact but not too dense, and full of flavor. The portions was generous, and while a part of my brain said "take some of this home in a box", the rest of me prevailed, and I finished every bite. While were were there, the tables were about 80% full, yet the noise levels were never a problem. We weren't even aware of conversations at other tables nearby. Low-key conversation across the table was never difficult, as it I can be in so many eating establishments today. Before leaving, we inquired of the hostess about their ability to handle a group of 8-12, with individual tickets, for a breakfast or a lunch, and we were assured that would not be a problem. We will return - with more friends in tow!

I was excited to try this place, but a big piece of plastic in my omlette ruined my dining experience, which was too bad since all the other food was pretty good.

So happy to find a mom and pop diner in the heart of midtown! We went for lunch on a Saturday. 1/2 our party ordered breakfast and the others ordered lunch. No wait for a table for our large party. We had great burgers, amaze-balls banana bread French toast, standard light fluffy pancakes with country potatoes, but the chopped sirloin patty with mashed potatoes & gravy was much better than expected. Several meals had to be boxed because we just couldn't finish. The food was all delicious, and fairly priced. The staff was friendly and the service was prompt. We were too stuffed to try any of the tempting desserts in the case, but next time we'll be sure to save some room!!

Thank goodness for Dugger's. Dundee had a spell for a few years without a good breakfast spot (RIP Cecil's). Tucked away just east of the Dundee Theater, Dugger's ramps up your typical greasy spoon favorites. Of course, all the breakfast staples are served here, but right alongside options like lemon pancakes and banana bread French toast. We tried the vegetarian burst salad and the banana bread pancakes which, less face it, were pretty hard for me to resist since they combined two of my favorite food stuffs. The salad was piled high with salad greens, spinach, artichoke hearts, avocado, broccoli, cucumber, tomato and the star of the dish: roasted peppers. Yes, Dugger's has plenty of amazing lunch options as well. The banana bread French toast was another winner, although understandably a bit heavy. The French toast also came with a side of delicious sausage links that actually resembled sausage rather than the Jimmy Dean-like grease chunks you typically find elsewhere. Dugger's is a great and much needed addition to Dundee's already-stellar roster of restaurants. Go here for a top-notch breakfast/brunch experience, complete with welcoming, attitude-free service.

DELICIOOOOUUUUS!!!! The lemon pancakes with raspberry sauce are exactly as "dreamy" as the menu describes them to be. The blueberry French toast was scrumptious. The cheesy hash browns are pretty good as well. Our server was friendly and kept the beverages coming. I would definitely eat here again for brunch!

I had to read up on my waffle lore before writing this post. Dugger's Cafe has been open now officially all of about two weeks (I think, though a Dugger clued me into the space at the tail end of December), in the old Noodle Zoo space (RIP) next to Dundee Theater. Technically now it's the old Zephyr Lily Cafe space, but my point is, the interior is greatly unchanged, even from the NZ days. Same paint on the walls, same ceiling, lighting fixtures and even perhaps the floor. It probably goes without saying that the location is a bit odd, with no street view from either Dodge or Capitol Ave, you really need to be looking for it as a destination, even once you come upon the front door. There was something going on - or not - with the ventilation this morning, as the restaurant was actually warm and humid inside with condensation on the windows and door. But that's just me and my weird HVAC observations. There was also an 8-year old banging his silverware together over and over while his parents did nothing... the overall atmosphere reminded me more of a diner than a brunch-style cafe. But sometimes it's nice to keep it casual, eh? According to the OWH article... "The owners, Jeanette Laitner, her son, Randy Dugger, and Dugger's wife, Rhonda, have a long history in Omaha restaurants. Jeanette and her former husband, Jim Dugger, opened Duggers Coffee Shop in 1965 at 84th and Center Streets. After 10 years, they moved the shop to 80th and Center, where they stayed for another 10 years before selling the business. Randy Dugger, who graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, worked as a chef for 30 years with Marriott Hotels. In Omaha, he opened Farmhouse Cafe and worked there for eight years. Most recently, he worked with Patricia Catering in Bellevue". Now, what about the food? Perusing the menu only one thing really jumped out at me... the Belgian Waffle. This prompted some serious research after the fact (and a whole separate blog post about Belgian Waffles), when I sat down to write this review. But the short version is that what showed up was not what we were hoping for. It an American Belgian waffle. Soft, round, and served with one pad of warmed butter. Looking at it now makes me sad after writing about those other waffles. The homemade 'maple' syrup was a bit confusing to me also, since it didn't appear to have any maple flavor. But this is comparing to what I'm used to at home (100% pure maple syrup). What showed up in the syrup dispenser reminded me more of corn syrup with a lot of caramel color, a la Aunt Jemima. Bill had the 'Chris' Butcher Shop Omelette', with bacon, sausage, ham and jack cheese. I went for the Breakfast Croissant, with scrambled eggs, diced ham, bacon, cheese all 'nestled' in a croissant. The sandwich was okay, all the flavors were there but the whole thing was compressed a bit and pretty greasy. Flavor was very rich, and I only ate half. The fruit was probably the star of my plate, actually, with freakishly fresh strawberries taking center stage. A raspberry muffin also made an appearance. It was slightly smaller than I anticipated, since they were touted as homemade I just assumed... that's it above on a salad plate. But don't let the size deceive you, as it was small but definitely mightily tasty. Sweet, with a crunchy top and a nice pop of raspberry. One of the other reviews cites poor waitstaff. That wasn't our experience at all, luckily. We were greeted immediately upon entering, and seated quickly. Service was friendly and prompt. There was a brief moment of muffin-memory-lapse, but it didn't affect the speedy pace of our meal. Paying was a little confusing, as we weren't instructed to pay at the counter and just figured that out for ourselves in time. Then, the gentleman working the counter had to go get our server so we could pay her specifically. A procedure that seemed strange to me as I haven't seen it before. Maybe we were supposed to pay at the table after all?

Had to go check out this new joint on the block that I lived on for 10 years (we remember you Fenwick's). This is where Noodle Zoo was and it looks pretty similar inside, which is fine as it fits the higher-quality breakfast and lunch service they seem to be going for. First thing I noticed is that is smelled really good going in there, I was expecting the greasy smell of a typical cafe (though nothing like good old Cecil's that was once across the street). It just smelled nice and kind of like herbs or something. I don't know. Sat down in a booth, and was immediately asked for drinks. Coffee is of a higher standard than say your typical greasy spoon. Service was perfect for me throughout. Just the right amount of approaches and no fake chatty stuff trying to get a tip. Food was up super quick. The hot beef was in the biggest letters on the menu, so I was assuming this is the specialty. I went with that, though I was little put off by the price as a hot beef that we usually get is instant mashed potatoes, maybe a slightly homemade gravy and a couple slices of beef. I have no issue with that as it's comfort food. The price made sense when I started eating my food. Real skin on mashed potatoes cooked to perfection, a lot of thinly sliced quality beef (they did not skimp on this) and a tasty gravy covering the entire meal (no skimping here either). You could taste some spices and herbs and it was just delicious and super satisfying on this cold winter day. It sucks to try a new place and get blown away by a dish right away, because now I am going to have a hard time getting anything else when I go back-and I will be going back.

We received an email yesterday from a neighbor we've never met via our neighborhood's email sharing service, and they highly recommended Dugger's Cafe. We had never been there, so I immediately checked Yelp (of course!) and saw that all the reviews were very complimentary. So, today we went to check them out. WOW! I'm not one who usually posts restaurant reviews, but I was *really* impressed with them! First, we arrived at 2:50pm, just 10 minutes before they were to close (my partner had a meeting after church, and this was the soonest we could meet up there). I asked if there was still time for a meal, and they very cheerfully said "of course!" (I expected to be told the kitchen was already being cleaned or something, and to be turned away.) Being the breakfast-aholics that we are, my partner and I both ordered breakfast meals (plus a cinnamon roll to celebrate our upcoming shared birthday...it was yums!). I ordered their Lumberjack omelette (with bacon, sausage, ham and jack cheese). When my plate arrived just a few minutes later, I was amazed at how much food there was -- the omelette was sizable, there was an ample amount of fried potato pieces, and four thick slices of wheat toast. The omelette was exceptional -- it just really tasted great, and it was really hearty -- I could have just eaten that and been completely satisfied! The fried potatoes alone were worth the trip, and I can't wait to have those again! Don't ask me what made them so wonderful, but they were perfectly crispy and tasty. Again, I just couldn't get over how much food we received and how tasty it all was! Being breakfast-aholics, we've been ALL over Omaha in search of *good* breakfast places (we moved here from Arizona three years ago). I'm sad to report that we've found very few places that we truly enjoy and look forward to visiting. We mostly find places that are just "okay", and we tolerate them so that we don't burn out our several favorite breakfast restaurants by visiting them too often. So, based on our experience today, I can assure you that we've now *regulars* at Duggers, even though we've only been there once!

I tried Dugger's Cafe for lunch today but they are still pretty new and it shows. I saw the "lunch box" takeout as an option on their online menu which sounded perfect for my needs but when I went to call in the order for pick up I got the answering machine 3x in 15 minutes so I drove there and placed my order in person instead. The two people I talked to weren't sure what I was referring to until I pointed it out on their menu but to be fair they said they were pretty new and so is the restaurant. At first I was a little disappointed in my sandwich because for $7.00 it looked liked something I could easily make at home but it tasted really good. The meat was better quality and there was more of it than I would put on at home and it was convenient. Also, included a bag of chips and a cookie. I would definately like to try Dugger's again, especially when I can eat there for breakfast.

First time here and I'll be back. Lots of room. Friendly staff. Food is really good. I had the veggie casserole for breakfast - well balanced and fresh taste. Buddy had the quiche special; it tasted good also. Fresh fruit, good coffee. Homemade maple syrup is delicious albeit not actually maple syrup. Lemon pancakes were incredible!

Stopped in for breakfast this am, Sunday morning. Had to wait a little while for a table, but worth the wait. Had French toast! It was delicious!

This was our first time here for breakfast. Delicious food and I especially loved the lemon pancakes! The waitress was so-so as far making sure our beverages were replenished but the great food will indeed make us go back frequently for breakfast.

Great little breakfast spot! Nice place to meet friends.

Finally a real breakfast. Nothing fancy but just good old fashion breakfast food. Service was efficient with friendly reception. Paid attention to small details and very customer oriented. Will definitely recommend and return myself. Worth checking out once

Arrived first time as big breakfast people and enjoy trying new spots. Had good eggs, good sausage, marginal pancake. Dry and tasteless. Hash browns greasy Big problem was the charge of $6.99 for two eggs. Paid bill and then noticed the charge for complete breakfast vs two eggs. Asked about it and they really did not want to go thru hassle of a credit etc. We left and duly noted customer relations. Eyes wide open

Everything was delicious. I ordered the banana french toast special and loved every bite. The biscuits and gravy were superb, the biscuit was fluffy and the gravy was light and creamy. The pancakes were also really good. Definitely will go back.

I stopped by to try breakfast for the first time. The first thing that impressed me was the coffee -- strong (but not too strong) . I find mostly every diner in this city has HORRIBLE coffee. Even if the food is good the coffee sucks. So 5 Stars for the coffee Duggers. I also happened to try the lemon pancakes. They were wonderful. Light and delicious. I have never had a pancake so good. Unfortunately on a second visit I tried the regular pancakes and they were not the same. Okay but not great or even that good. Why don't you make all your pancakes the same?? I also tried a hamburger. I asked for medium well but maybe she only heard the well part because it was the driest burger ever. Even the bun was dry. The fries seemed like grocery store frozen fries. Anyway, the atmosphere is pleasant and they have a great wait staff. I hope it does well. I intend to come back and try some of the other menu items. I hope the coffee and lemon pancakes aren't their only strong suit. Improve that burger guys! Moist meet and a fresh brioche bun would help.

First off the chicken fried steak was amazing! Eggs over-medium were perfectly made and the potatoes were very good. A bit of confusion though. A separate waiter than our original served our food and asked if we wanted pancakes or toast. We weren't aware that the dish came with these extras (we knew what we wanted immediately so didn't really study the menu) so we told him what we wanted. This started an argument between our original waitress and the waiter and someone in the kitchen which was right next to our table. The waitress then proceeded to come to our table and tell us that the waiter "didn't know what he was talking about" and said, "you got what you ordered" really testy. It was awkward and uncomfortable. We honestly still don't know if the extras were meant to be part of the meal...they brought them to us anyway well after we were finished eating. Not that we cared. We were full and totally happy with our meal....just turned off by the bad behavior.

This is quickly becoming a favorite spot of mine. I like that they have really healthy food- great salads, and veggie omelets, but you can also get comfort food. The staff seems very eager to please always ready for refills of coffee or tea. One time the waitress brought me three kinds of dressing because I had s hard time deciding. Nice right?!
