Absolutely amazing. We booked early 5pm reservations for Omaha restaurant week, and if you like amazing attentive service and feeling like you're in your own private event, I suggest 5pm (opening) on a Sunday or non-busy week night. Since we love Dario's (French cuisine in Dundee by the same owner), I was sure I would love Avoli too. First off-decor. LOVE. It's got the feel of Italian countryside meets rustic glamour. I could live here. Nuff said on that. We were greeted with a happy smile and seated immediately at our reservation time. We did the three course dinner with wine paring- the first course came out within 5 mins, and the next courses in a very timely fashion and so forth. The wine pairings were perfect with each course. I'm not a wine expert but I think the choices were great. I also like that she educated us on each dish and each wine. All pasta is made in house, or imported from Italy. Impressive stuff. I liked everything we tried but the crostini, pappardelle, and lamb belly risotto was a real stand out in my book. I also loved the olive oil gelato. This dish was both original and light in flavor. Perfect place for date night, a small intimate party, or a celebration. They also have a private room that can accommodate 20 for private parties. You have to try it!!! Highly recommend.

I have been to Avoli now twice for dessert, and once for dinner. The Decor in the restaurant and the ambience, lighting, et al are lovely. Each time I have been here it has been without a reservation, and the staff have been warm, welcoming, and accommodating. It such a pleasure to go to a restaurant that truly believes that their guests are a top priority. Both times I have been here for desserts, I was not disappointed. Their menu changes seasonally, and the wine list that they have is very comprehensive. Dishes are always plated well and the ingredients used for the food are high quality. I think the portion sizes are perfect... But after being to so many Omaha restaurants, most diners only familiar with the Midwest may find them to be smaller. If you fall into the latter category- plan on a few small plates before your entree. Overall- I would recommend Avoli!

One of the best places in Omaha. Fantastic food, outstanding beverages, great service and a nice location. This has become our go-to restaurant for date night. All the pasta dishes are delicious, loved the pork cheek ravioli. Also the flatiron pork chop. Also try the octopus! Highly recommended.

Revisted Avoli for the first time in more than a year--and wow it was great!. Three of us shared a mountain of food, all of which was delicious. The highlights: the bistecca + roasted potatoes, the seafood tagliatelle (with an abundance of seafood!), and the polenta. Order the polenta side dish now! It's soooo creamy. The gnocci entree was equally delicious. On our first visit the pastas tasted oversalted, but the salt levels on this visit were perfect. The beer offerings have expanded to include Zipline, a local brewery. Still a tad pricey (and in fact the bistecca's price went up, I believe), but it is absolutely worth it!

If you are having the good fortune of reading this review and are able to get to Avoli Osteria before Sept. 20, 2015 do it!! You will be able to have the same dream producing meal I had...If not, go there anyway you won't be disappointed, I promise!! I went for the first night of restaurant week, in fact I think We were the first patrons there that evening. I had never dined there before, but I had been wanting to for a long time. For those not familiar, restaurant week, is 10 days where a bunch of restaurants around town do 3 course prix frixe menus, in this case for $30, with a portion going to the Food Bank of the Heartland. In most cases, the menus are special items, which are not available on the regular menu and so you want to take advantage of eating at your favorite restaurants at this time. Things to note here: our server Bill was excellent. He was knowledgeable of the entire menu, it's preparation, and taste. I opted for the additional wine pairing which was an extra $15. I highly recommend this as an add-on to your meal. My fiancé and I both ordered from the menu and got each of the choices so we could try everything. So, the choices for the first course were brandade crostini (salted cod, olive oil, citrus, and chives), or Gallurese Bread & Cabbage Soup (bread, cabbage, cheese, white beans, and ham broth). It was paired with a Anselmi Friulano wine that was light and perfect. The broth in this soup was the best broth I have ever tasted. It was so flavorful! Amazing start to the meal. My fiancé loved his crostini as well. He had never had anything like it. I took a bite of it and did find it very interesting. I didn't hate it, which I kind of expected. I would eat it again. Second course, Manzo Pappardelle (Piedmontese tenderloin, horseradish pappardelle, jus, mushrooms, onion, creme fraiche) or Fregola Sarda with Lamb Belly roasted garlic, tomato, and fresh rosemary paired with Tenute Soletta Cannonau di Sardegna. Fregola Sarda is like couscous of pasta that he toasted and put in the most amazing, delicious sauce with lamb belly that absolutely just melted in your mouth. I can't even begin to explain how much I love this dish. I gave my fiancé a bite and he said that is a party in your mouth! My fiancé loved his also. It was so simple, but so flavorful. He really couldn't get over it. He normally doesn't like pasta dishes as he grew up on them, but he loved this so much! The pasta was beautiful and fresh. Last course and dessert he had a trio of gelato, vanilla bean, pistachio, and chocolate. I had flourless chocolate cake made with mint ganache, blackberry compote and it was paired with a branca menta. It was paired perfectly because the cake was made with the wine! The best was when Dario himself stopped by our table to say hi and ask about our meal. I was able to fully gush about my love for his dish to the man himself! Yay! Perfect ending to a perfect meal!

This place has been on my radar for over a year now and was excited to try it out this past weekend. First of all, outstanding service. The waiter was very well educated on not only the menu, but also wines that would complement the entrées that we were ordering and based upon some of our personal preferences. Based on some very generic information we gave him about what we might want, he nailed it. We started off with a few appetizers. Specifically, the grilled octopus, bruschetta special and that buratta and speck. The buratta and speck was my favorite, I recommend this appetizer. Loved the creamy mozzarella, smoked meat and orange jam, all went together nicely. Onto the entrées. I settled on the Branzino. I absolutely love Seabass, but I am 0 for 2 with Branzino (see balena in Chicago). What I got here, in my mind, was a little bit overcooked and just didn't have much flavor. However, The three other people I dined with all loved their entrées. My parents finished their meal with some sort of chocolate dessert, which I had to sample. I do not recall the name of it, but I know that it was topped with olive oil and sea salt ice cream. The combination of the olive oil and sea salt ice cream with the chocolate with phenomenal and not quite like anything I have had before. Will definitely return to avoli!

Saturday night 2-28-2015 at 9ish. My wife and I sat at the bar for some cocktails and food. My wife ordered the cherry Manhattan, but it was served without the cherry. The bartender allowed her to switch it out (but why was is poured and served without its garnish). The wine was tasty. The octopus and pasta were cooked perfectly. We were not excited about our service. We have had more friendly and accommodating bartenders in the past. Would love to see more vegan options.

Not only one of the best restaurants in Omaha... one of the best restaurants anywhere! We love returning to Avoli whenever we're in town. Delicious everything! Terrific service and ambiance, too.

I've tried out Avoli twice now and both times, I felt the meal was kind of so-so. The first time I ate here was in the winter and hence, they had a menu more focused on heartier, heavier fare. I had a fantastic pumpkin gnocchi - it was creamy, filling, and full of yummy "holiday-tasting" spices. Imagine Thanksgiving-ish. The second time I came was this past weekend. My waitress recommended the Farro Farfalle. I am a huge fan of pesto and the waitress said it was one of her favorites. I took her up on her suggestion and ordered the dish. It was.. okay. I mean, I ate every bite, let me emphasize that. But it wasn't something I would probably order again. It was kind of bland. What turned it around was dessert. YUMM. We shared a flourless chocolate cake and it came dripping with caramel and paired with a sea salt and olive oil ice-cream. It was so freaking delicious. Oooh and I have to mention -- they have a huge selection of wines for only $30. Deal!

Great location and fantastic service. Loved the food (been there only once); great gnocchi and trout and the Antipasti. Neat selection of wines which were fairly priced. Ambience is perfect and conducive to conversation. Loved it, definitely going back 5 stars.

I would argue that Avoli is far and away the best Italian food you can get in Omaha. In fact, I don't think we have a close second. Just finished a five course meal there- absolutely perfect from start to finish. At 10:00 on a Friday night, with only a few tables left in the place, the owner was out checking to make sure we enjoyed our experience- he could have easily knocked off for the day and let the staff close out, but this attention to detail is what sets them apart and it can be found all the way through the meal from the imported Italian cheeses to the handmade pasta and charming digestif drink cart to accompany homemade gelato- the olive oil and sea salt variety was really great. If you have not tried Avoli I would highly recommend that you do. Go with the spirit of having a two hour dinner, take your time, savor the courses and enjoy yourself. There have been other posts on here about bad service- I have been here a half dozen times and had great service but I think part of that is our approach to the meal.

One of my favorite places. The food is always exceptional. Last night the Burrata was so fresh it just melt in my mouth. I had my favorite dish off the menu; Bolognese Bianco. It was fabulous as usual. Very nice select of Italian wines on the back cover for $30. Can not beat Avoli Osteria for a consistently great meal.

We drove in from out of town for this and WOW, what a gem! Atmosphere is a classic café where you will see anything from people dressed up in a suit to casual attire. The staff is very knowledgeable and helped with menu questions offering perfect recommendations. We had the octopus appetizer and it was amazing, tender and flavorful. With our family of four, we had the 2 of the Bolognese Bianco (veal/pork creamy meat light red sauce in pasta), the Gnocchi di Prima Vera (pasta mushrooms asparagus and white sauce), and the Tagliolini di Mare (seafood with sundried tomato pasta - AMAZING zingy flavor). We did not venture to the gelato due to the kids wanting a neighboring ice cream stop. However, this was fantastic. We call this kind of restaurant a food vacation, because you truly do not feel like you're in the Nebraska when you're dining here. I felt like I flew across the ocean. Very nice job capturing the flavors of Northern Italy. We WILL be back!

Upon moving to Omaha, I was shocked at what passed as "Italian" cuisine. So when I heard Avoli had opened, I did not have high hopes; but, I was blown away! Perfectly al dente (and not over sauced) pastas! Piedmontese beef!! Burrata cheese! Olive oil gelato! I can't find enough superlatives or exclamation points to describe how excited I am about this restaurant. We often don't plan our restaurant destinations in advance and while a reservation is suggested, we often times walk in and sit at the bar. Service is great and you'll enjoy the repartee with the entire staff. I highly recommend Avoli Osteria!

Our second visit here and everything was absolutely delicous!! We were a party of 6, and shared 3-4 antipasto plates, 4 primo plates and 3 second plates as well as 3 deserts. I highly recommend sharing- its a great way to go. You'll love it!!

The reviews don't lie -- an evening at Avoli is one of the best dining experiences in Omaha. On both of my visits, the food, service and atmosphere have been exceptional. So far I've tried: local beets, farm salad, daily vegetable (some wonderful variety of brocoli I've never seen before), gnocchi de patate, tagliolini de mare (squid ink pasta!!) and pork cheek ravioli. Wow, everything was super fresh, looked beautiful and tasted fantastic. The pork cheek was absolutely one of the tastiest dishes I've ever tried. Seriously. I would take each bite nice and slow just to savor the richness for a few extra moments. It's worth noting that it ain't cheap to eat at Avoli. With a couple sides, an entree, wine and dessert, you're looking at $50+ person. But when everything is just about perfect, well, that makes it all worth it in my book.

How have I not reviewed this place yet ??? Avoli has to be the shining trophy of all of my 5 star reviews. The fare here is very typical of Northern Italian cusine Every single element of the dining experience here is done to perfection!!! My latest visit came towards the end of a sunday with a great group of friends. We stopped in for a family style dinner here. Every item we had was beyond perfect and absolutely amazing!! The roasted mushrooms are one of my favorites and I ordered some just by themselves. All pastas and sauces are just perfect in the al dente, saucing, taste and pairings. Deserts are wonderful and they bring a drink cart to you at the end to have a wonderful after dinner snort!!! If you love fine dining and Italian you must have a dinner at Avoli. Words can not describe the experience and you must enjoy it first hand!

We visited during restaurant week, on a Tuesday! No less...walking into the restaurant the decor is very well done and the bar is gorgeous! we were met by a cheerful hostess and even though we were 20minutes early we were shown to our table on the patio to wait for our guest. Our waitress was FABULOUS! But her name slips our minds :(...she talked us thru all our choices and the taste of Omaha menu that was offered for restaurant week they even came with wine pairings and looked fabulous! But we opted for the prix fixe menu for $20 included a yummy salad, spaghetti carbonara and chocolate gelato and of course our Peroni beer or two which were not included in the prix fixe price..darn! We had a lovely relaxed dinner and look forward to returning to try the other menu choices...

This place is beyond-words-fantastic. I still dream about it. Excellent service, excellent food - SPOT on northern italian. Great wine list. Obivously can be pricey, but there is a reason why! I believe monday/tuesday is price fixe? Great option! I have a lot of favorite restaurants in Omaha, but this is #1!

Mmmm, super delicious pasta, fresh ingredients and great service! A beautiful spot in Dundee and very reasonable prices. My fiance got a delightful pasta dish and I very much enjoyed the Nebraska trout! Both light dishes with fantastic wine and beer selection, too!!

After reading all the reviews, I was excited to try this new restaurant. Sadly, I left disappointed, mostly with the service. I will start with the food. The highlight of my meal was the butter lettuce salad. It was perfectly dressed and seasoned. I wish it would've had more prosciutto and cubed beets. I ordered spaghetti carbonara as my second course, and it was very rich and filling, even for the smaller size. My one critique was that it may have been over salted. Now to the service: my glass was empty several times before the server filled it. Also, it took so long for the waiter to take or dessert order that we ran out of time. I was disappointed that I couldn't order a dessert for my birthday dinner.

Northern Italian dining in historic Dundee. One of our favorite restaurants for Italian cooking. Place is almost always crowded so be sure and make a reservation. Parking is very limited and street parking fills up quickly, especially on the weekend. Best bet is to park in the bank parking lot almost directly behind the restaurant. I had previously inquired as to the best place to park and that is what the restaurant personnel told us......it works out well. Restaurant is decorated in dark accents with numerous chandeliers hanging throughout the dining area. Also a number of paintings hanging on the walls to give that splash of color to offset the dark tone of the walls, furniture and ceiling. Bar area is decent sized and a good place to start the evening with a drink if you have to wait for your table. We were seated almost immediately upon arriving and our waiter; "Ben" was there quickly introducing himself and filling our water glasses. The restaurant was full, but the wait staff appeared to do a really good job of keeping things moving. Ben listed the evening's specials and also made recommendations for drinks. Our appetizer was the Burrata and Speck. Burrata is a fresh Italian cheese made from mozzarella and cream. The Speck was prosciutto. The dish also came with a homemade orange marmalade. Overall very good. Entrees were a small Penne Pomodoro with burrata added and parmigiano-reggiano and a large sized Bolognese Bianco with a pork & veal ragu, imported rigatoni, hazelnuts and pecorino romano. Pastas were delicious. Desserts were a honey and whiskey flourless chocolate cake with a vanilla gelato and a panna cotta with pistachios, balsamic strawberries, lemon curd, and vanilla gelato. Both were outstanding. A very pleasant dining experience where the food and service were excellent. Oh and Avoli has a Prix Fixe menu on Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday where you can get a three course meal for $20.00 a person.

Awesome food. Great ambience. Tried the new lamb belly dish on menu- was amazing. Great staff as well. Chef personally came and asked about our experience. All in all a 5/5.

I made a reservation via Yelp and they called 20 minutes after we had been seated to ask me if I was going to show up for our reservation. I ordered the capellacha for $15 and when it arrived, there were about 10 small pieces of ravioli on the plate. We were all shocked at how little was there. I then ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio and they brought a Cabernet. The waitress did not come back for a long time so I didn't get the chance to tell her it was wrong. I was really disappointed after hearing such great reviews. It was not worth the price and I wish I would have gone down the street to Pitch pizza.

It really doesn't get any better than this! A few of our friends recommended this one and we are so glad we went. Great wine, amazing 3-4 course meals, a comfortable environment, and a great place for a date. The waitress we had also knew her stuff! I couldn't tell you the names of what we had for entrees but we split a pasta, each had a second course, and ended with gelato which was delicious! Grab a date and try it out :)

Great experience dining here! Parking was easy and the restaurant had a good romantic vibe. They also let you sit down at your table prior to your whole party arriving- nice touch! We had the following: -Gnocchi with sausage -Spaghetti Carbonara -Branzino -30 oz. Ribeye The gnocchi was good- different than I've had before. It was served in a light red sauce, more of a bolognese, with ground sausage. The spaghetti carbonara was the weakest dish- missing peas and pancetta. This sauce didn't come together for us, kind of goopy lacking flavor altogether. The peas and pancetta would have been nice. The Branzino and Ribeye were the stars of the meal. The fish was incredibly fresh and better than any Branzino I've had in a long time. The ribeye was delciious. This came sliced and prepared med-rare (perfect!) with a balsamic glaze. I could have certainly eaten more of this but limited my intake because it was so good. For dessert/after dinner drinks they have a beverage cart and that's kind of a fun old school thing to offer. Can't say I've seen that done anywhere else. Overall we had a wonderful experience here. Our server Cassandra was fantastic. I would give 5 stars if the pasta dishes were a little better.

Never thought you would find such a place in Omaha!!! looks like it's just another restaurant from outside but as soon as you enter you are greeted with really nice people and a great vice and decoration. The food was just delish!!! the waitress recommended Nebbiolo bottle of wine that was just perfect for the night. The beet bruschetta was yummy - on special tomato and kale side was really good too. we tried the local omaha trout which was cooked so nicely... the pastas are mostly home-made so definitely try a ravioli or two i think everything on the menu is great Then we ended with Limoncello and a really good vincenza port some sort of a chocolate cake and ice cream. overall I will give it a thumbs up to everything!!!

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. I was very impressed with Avoli on my first visit last weekend. The server recommended several dishes, and I have to say I loved every bite. I wish we had an Italian restaurant like this in Denver! Well done!

Great local Italian restaurant. Dario has hit a home run again and we are soon lucky to have him and his staff in the neighborhood. Wonderful blend of season and Sardinian inspired offerings. Just a fun, great, local place to go. Sit at a table or sit at the bar for a late evening bite and glass of wine. You're gonna love it here.

One way I judge a restaurant is by the way the food makes me feel. The food at Avoli Osteria is "good energy" food. The tastes, textures and quality of the menu items are impressive. After three visits, my favorites are the escarole salad with white anchovies, the melt-in-your-mouth parsnip ravioli, and the polenta. We order a variety of items to share, and because we want to sample many things, we usually order more than we can eat, running up the bill. The waitstaff is knowledgeable and patient when answering questions about menu items. I always leave with that "good energy" feeling, confirming that Avoli Osteria is doing something right.

Wonderful wonderful restaurant! Not only is the food amazing, so is the service! We waited at the bar while our table was getting ready and the bartender was so great and helpful with picking out drinks and friendly conversation. Our waitress, Becca, went above and beyond to make our experience extraordinary! Now let's get to the food: absolutely superb. We started with the prosciutto and cheese plate - no way you can go wrong with that! I ordered the pan roasted chicken and the skin was perfectly crisp, while the chicken was juicy. My boyfriend ordered the beef cheek ravioli and a side of sausage and he loved every bit of it. Finally for dessert, we got to try their gelato and it was so simple, but the perfect ending to an amazing dinner. Would recommend this restaurant!

Wow!!! Best Italian I have eaten in a few years and don't think anyone in Omaha can compete. Had the special-garganelli and it was fabulous. Prices are market and make this a bargain. Great service.

  • C D.

The service was excellent here; and so was the food. Everything was delicious, but what I'm still craving the day after is the carbornara. I've spent a lot of time in Italy -- both north and south -- and the carbornara here ranks up there, some of the best I've ever had. Can't wait to come back and try some other dishes on the menu.

Love love love this place. From the wine to the service and of course the food. Best restaurant in Omaha at the moment. The wine list hosts an impressive selection of affordable and delicious Italian wines. Never been disappointed in anything I've selected. And the table wine list that are all $30 is perfect for date night. This place is designed for sharing and that is totally what you should do. The Tajarin all Uovo is a can't miss, along with the Bolognese Bianco and the Carbonarra. They took off the beet salad which was my favorite, but there are good substitutes. The Burrata and tomato is a delicious way to start and it seems they are usually offering some sort of special bruschetta as well. For the main event, it's all so good. Their steaks are to die for, as is the half roasted chicken and the daily mixed grill. I just can't rave about this place enough!

  • Shari F.

The striped bass was fantastic! I'm a fish lover, and can honestly say this was one of the best fish dishes I've ever eaten in a restaurant. Everyone in my party was pleased with the food, service, and ambience. Bravo! My new favorite restaurant!

As soon as I took the first sip of my Manhattan Dolce I knew things were off to a good start. It was a great drink. The Luxardo maraschino cherry liquor took it over the top. For dinner the four of us ordered Tajarin al Uovo, Spaghetti Carbonara, Penne ala Pomodoro, Delmonico Steak & Soft Polenta with Taleggio. Everything was absolutely delicious. The pastas were wonderful, the steak was one of the best I have had outside a steakhouse, the bone marrow fingerling potatoes that came with it were outstanding & the polenta was creamy and delicious. The service was a little hit and miss - no refill on pop - never asked if I wanted another cocktail - but the food made up for it. We will be back soon.

Wow. Mhmmm. Excellent. Amazing. All of the above is about what my dinner experience here on a Friday evening came to be. Some quick background info before I get into it; if you love Dario's you'll love this place too as this is Dario's owner second venture. The defining difference is that this place is Italian, you still have that intimate elegance in the atmosphere with a touch of sophistication, and the menu items along with the wait staffs comments/opinions of the dishes promise nothing but an excellent experience for your taste buds. I decided on the crispy sea bass- as it was in season I was informed it was wild caught (bonus!). The dish was nothing less than perfection, the fish perfectly cooked laying on a bed of vegetables that had a light sauce on them-- the fish stood on its own, as it should, since it was GD delicious! My partner got the gnocchi, it melted in my mouth and the Italian sausage used in the dish had a light sweet taste that complimented the hand made gnocchi so wonderfully. I would recommend both highly, but would also say many other dishes tempted us to be coming back very shortly as well. Yeah, pretty much planning my next major cardie day in conjunction with dinner at osteria :p The only downside to Avoli's is the street where their entrance is located is under some heavy construction at the time of this review, so parking must be interesting till Underwood is finished with improvements. Luckily we rode our bikes here for dinner, so parking was a breeze :) (locked our bikes to the patios fence)

Great second effort by longtime Dundee restaurant owner, Dario. These guys are executing at a high level, from their salumi, ever changing fresh pasta and protiens. If it's packed, sit at the bar for dinner, the service is excellent there as well.

Delicious and authentic Italian cuisine. The tortellini app was delicious and made tasted like fall. The ambiance is darling and quaint and I look forward to it aging a little to not seem so new. I encourage getting items and sharing. It is a great place to start or end the night and you can be there for hours with a bottle of wine and great friends.

Consistently delicious. We find we are happiest with the appetizers and pasta dishes. The Grilled Octopus and the Beef Carpaccio are out of this world. Love the Bolognese Bianco and the Spaghettini Carbonara. The decor tries hard but kind of misses for us; nonetheless, we highly recommend.

I hate to write a negative review based off one poor experience, but... (As I'm typing this, my jaw is on the floor because I'm still in shock that things went down the way they did especially because I'm a member of the of the DMPA neighborhood association and have been rooting for this place to do well. ) Basically we were given the wrong food item. Not a big deal...just take the messed up food back and bring us what we ordered. Well apparently it was a big deal. The server tried to convince us that we were wrong, that it was in fact what we ordered. (Nevermind the fact that he didn't write the order down and there were 3 of us at the table that all recall ordering something else. Also, one of my dinner companions is allergic to shellfish and I won't even eat shrimp flavored ramen noodles because I hate seafood that much. Why in the world would we order a plate that is 2/3 seafood???) After speaking with the manager, the server told us he could bring out the dish we *claimed to have ordered*, but we would be charged for it, in addition to paying for the food they brought us. Seems like nicer restaurants like this always seem to bend over backwards to make sure their patrons happy. All we wanted was to get the food that we ordered and to not be charged for something that we didn't. I'm still in shock that they didn't take better care of us, especially considering that dinner for 3 people (with 20% tip) cost $174 and the plate that got mixed up cost 15 bucks (I imagine the food cost is like 8). I think it's safe to say that nobody in our group will be back. I mean...I wouldn't take a dump in an Olive Garden, but at least they have better customer service. I'm not even going to bother to write about the food. At this point it doesn't even matter. I'd rather eat Ragu from a jar because at least it's honest.

The best Italian restaurant in Omaha. Closest thing to authentic Italian than any other restaurant in town. The decor is understated elegance, and I have always had good service. I appreciate that many of their pasta dishes are made with fresh pasta, and I especially love their carbonara. It's a huge pet peeve of mine when restaurants claim to serve carbonara and use cream as the sauce. This is NOT carbonara. Carbonara is made with eggs and not cream. If you want real authentic carbonara, go to Avoli. I recommend any of the antipasti with burrata cheese. If you have never had burrata, try it, it is amazing. The butter lettuce and escarole salads are also outstanding. Now for secondi...they know how to grill a bistecca. If you are undecided, order one of their steak dishes. The flavor they impart into their bistecca is sublime (and this is not a word I generally use). The only issue I have with them is they don't give you complimentary bread with your meal, and being Italian, I like bread with my meal. That being said, the rosemary foccacia is worth paying for. Since you'll want to order something from every course (and believe me, you will want to), sharing is a good idea. Great addition to Dundee!!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed great service and a delish meal. We enjoyed Cavatelli del Mare (fab clams); Maine lobster bisque topped with buttery Dungeness crab; steak on top of creamy, buttery mashed potatoes (if Jesus made mashed potatoes, this would be it) and Maine lobster tail; Dungeness crab ravioli; finished with dessert: wine-spiced apples with a walnut crumble, apple chips, and buttermilk gelato. Our server, Luke, was appropriately attentive and very kind.

I visited Avoli on a quiet Sunday night. My partner and I received prompt and attentive service. Since we were (and still are) unfamiliar with Northern Italian food, the server answered our many questions and gave insightful recommendations. We decided to share our meal, beginning with the Spaghettini Carbonara. The portion size was small, but filling. We then followed with the Pan Roasted Chicken. This was my partner's choice, but I found the chicken to be moist and the sauce soubise delicious. We also ordered polenta as a side, which was cheesy perfection. Our dinner ran over the time where the kitchen closed, which we weren't informed of until we asked for dessert. Overall, an Italian restaurant in Omaha worth trying!

It's been quite a while since my wife and I dined here, but as the meal was so memorable, writing a review seems like the right thing to do. We spend about 3.5 hours on the patio one evening, just enjoying the food, wine, service, and weather. What a wonderful dining experience, with fantastic offerings. We are definitely on our way back soon!

The Bianca bolognese and the gnocci are to die for. The gnocci is fresh and homemade, you'll never want to eat the packaged stuff ever again. Great wine, was surprised they served from the Alto Aldige region. Had a really nice Lagreine by the glass. My salad was good but not memorable. Our companions had the beef cheek which was savory and fall apart delicious. Pretty decor, a few dedicated parking spots in front and really good and nice waitstaff. Can't wait to return!

Absolutely delicious. I've always enjoyed Dario's just up the road for good French comfort food and I think he knocked it out of the park with the northern Italian version here at Avoli. If you're adventurous, order without looking at the definitions on the back of the menu. You will be pleasantly surprised at the meal. The gnocchi and risotto were fantastic. Get them as an app to share and then order away. Ill be back.

Came for a quick weekday dinner. Quickly greeted at the front door and seated. Cozy and quaint, dining room is rustic and homey. Wine was moderately expensive, cheapest bottle was about $40 but server was super knowledgable and the bottle he recommended based on our tastes was lovely. Dinner was excellent, I had a squash ravioli that was amazing! Combined sweet and savory in the most delicious marriage of awesome....Been thinking about it since last night, will definitely be back to try it again!

Hands down one of the best restaurants in Omaha. I have never had a bad meal here and service is impeccable. Tajarin all'Uovo with truffles invades my dreams at night. The risotto is amazing, and ox tail Ragu was divine. This is the perfect date night restaurant.

WOW what a great delicious culinary evening at this fabulous restaurant! I loved the entire experience from start to finish! My group of four were warmly welcomed by the friendly hostess who sat us at a table where my wonderful Italian journey began! Jordan, our water was extremely professional, friendly and so knowledgeable. He recommended the evening's starter of Beet Carpaccio, topped with Arugula, kumquat jam topped with Burrata and served with great Olive oil brushed grilled bread. I shared, but I could have eaten the entire plate by myself as it was that good The presentation was lovely too Next we shared the Escarole salad with pickled red onions, spiced walnuts, white anchovies, Pecorino Romano & Caper Citrus vinaigrette! I added an ordered of their house made Rosemary Foccacia with Artisanal olive oil. It came to our table crisp on top and fabulously warm! My parents both ordered the Lamb Ravioli with mint pasta, accented with fresh Fava beans, spring garlic and Parmesan Reggiano, HL & I both had the Tajarin (fresh house made egg noodles) with Sage & Parmesan Reggiano. We literally almost licked our bowls clean because it was that good! We ended our meal sharing the homemade gelato; olive oil & sea salt, pistachio and stracciatella! Hands down my favorite is the pistachio, but they were all good! It is not often that I feel I have experienced a culinary journey and enjoyed every minute of it too! I highly recommend you experience the culinary excellence of the food here! I know the next time I am visiting my parents in Omaha, I will put Avoli at the top of my list of must returns!

We dined on a recent Friday night. The restaurant is larger than I had imagined. We had reservations so we were seated immediately. Our waiter was friendly, although I felt a little rushed to order. He informed us of a seafood special that night; however after we ordered we overheard another waitress explaining the specials to her table, and apparently there was more than one special. Disappointing our waiter only told us about one. We started off with a bread appetizer the waiter recommended. (I don't recall the name) It was good...came with olive oil for dipping. Not great...but good. I ordered the Bolognese Bianco (pork and veal ragu). I love the option of being able to order a small portion or a large portion! I opted for the small portion and it was still more than I could eat. Loved the flavor of the sauce...the veal and pork were super tender and the flavors melted together. Unfortunately my noodles were a touch more than el dente...in fact they were chewy and tough. My dining partner ordered the gnocchi. The gnocchi was awesome; however she was expecting more of a sauce on it for flavor. Not the restaurant's fault...just first time customers that were not sure exactly what to expect. We also ordered and split the Nebraska Corn Risotto. That was delish...so many different flavors underneath the sweet flavor of Nebraska sweet corn. Yum! All in all it was an enjoyable meal, and the price wasn't bad either. Looking forward to going back and trying another menu item.

I wanted to love Avoli Osteria because we love Dario's, but the visit left us wishing it could have been better. Restaurant: 4 stars. Decor is modern, but cozy. Location: 3.5 stars Unless you know the area, you might struggle with finding a place to park. Took advice from another yelper and parked in bank's parking behind the restaurant. Food: 3.8 stars Carbonara - 4 stars - very good; nice balance of flavors; small portion Gnocchi - 4 stars - nice balance of flavors; good portion Beef cheek (2/8/14 special) - 3.5 stars; meat was juicy; fell off fork; but the taste was bland. Eating it with the pasta helped with the taste, but alone.... Service: 4 stars We had a sweet and attentive server. She did her very best, but beyond telling us how much she enjoyed the special, every time we had a question about an item on the menu, she had to go ask.

I have been a fan of the head chef's dining for years as I do believe he is the owner and/or chef of Dario's Brasserie which is located just across Underwood Avenue. I was so excited to try Avoli when I learned it opened and was Northern Italian fare. Being of Sicilian decent, I just love good Italian and Mediterranean food. The atmosphere is beautiful, the staff are kind, considerate, knowledgeable and fun. I have never had anything bad on their menu. I highly recommend whatever their special is for the day, the veal appitizer/salad and the gelato selection. Overall, I am so pleased Dario opened this restaurant. I will be returning for more!

Three people walk in to Avoli on a Saturday night, sit at the bar, and enjoy three hours of food that show that Chef Dario is amongst the best chefs in North America. The staff is well attentive and help create the atmosphere that at Avoli, you are home, and they are all so happy you returned! Thank you!

We had a fantastic dinner last night. We ordered family style and shared the trout, the besticca, and the pork belly with 3 fantastic pastas and the potatoes. Wine and drinks. Service was exceptional and the food was the best Northern Italian food I have ever had in Omaha. I would rank this meal as one of the best I have had in Omaha. Fantastico!

Completely exceeded my expectations! We walked in on a Friday night, (not recommended if you plan to go..) Lucky for us, a couple did not show up for their reservation and we were seated right away. The whole time we were there the place was packed. Ambiance is perfect, warm, not loud and inviting to settle in for a while. Our server was fantastic, he was helpful with the 'Italian' menu, (no seriously, it's all in Italian and there is a glossary of terms on the back page to help!) and made suggestions based on his favorites and asking us questions about what we like. They say 'family style' but the portions are not huge, however we left beyond satisfied. In house made smoked pork sausage, hand made pasta, and little details such as pickled vegetables on the meat tray and marinated Bing cherries in the Manhattans, made this place memorable. My only thumbs down was an overly salted pasta dish, which in turn made the sausage seem very salty. The other spices were not lost, but I felt the bolognese was a tad on the salty side. This is my only complaint and it will not keep me from coming back. In fact I'm craving their pasta tonight, so it won't be long before I'm back. Recently, the Word Herald named this one of the best restaurants of 2013. I agree wholeheartedly. The fact that the owner also runs Darios, you know this place is a class act. I hope you are around for many years Avoli! Salute!

IMO, Avoli is Omaha's best restaurant. The food is savory, well prepared and tasty. You cannot go wrong with the burrata appetizer - even if you dislike peas. It is mouthwateringly good. I tend to rank restaurants on how well they can prepare a chicken - is it moist, savory and flavorful? Hands down, Avoli's has the best. Highly recommend their chicken and trout entrees, or any of their homemade pastas. Great atmosphere for a party, quiet meal, romantic evening - you name it. I am definitely a fan.

I have mixed things about this. First, the food is good. However, I am not sure this is true authentic Northern Italian food. This is Italian food with a particular chef's interesting ideas. Again, this is very good food. The menu might as well be written in Swahili. Very hard to figure out what items are. The menu is essentially a list of words without descriptors. For example, The "veal" turns out to be a large veal sausage when they bring it. There is an incomplete glossary on the back of the menu. This is not that helpful as glossaries go. Our particular waitress was condescending. I do not appreciate someone serving me constantly correcting my Italian when I obviously cannot speak Italian. That was not enjoyable. She obviously knew what I wanted to order. She took the 1 hour class on how to pronounce Italian. I did not. The wine should be better given Italian restaurant. It was okay but not superb. Do not order cocktails. Taste like mouthwash.

Fantastic food. Start with the smoky beef carpaccio and the creamy burrata. Have some rich bolognese bianco for your main. You can't beat the olive oil gelato for dessert.

As part of their 48 hours of spoiling me rotten, my Omaha hosts took me here for dinner. I started with a Manhattan Dolce -- Templeton rye with luxardo maraschino and sweet vermouth. It was delicious and, as promised, sweet. We tried a special trout bruscetta, which was fine but didn't knock our socks off. The other shared app was the most luscious pasta I think I've ever had -- "Tajarin all'Uovo -- rich, buttery handmade pasta served with parmesan and truffles. Oooof. It was divine. I also enjoyed very much a smaller-size (there was a choice) serving of their gnocchi, but my favorite of the evening, the dish that made me make MANY noises of happiness, was the burata (a PILLOW FROM HEAVEN) served with fresh English peas and a pea puree with paper-thin slices of radish and some guanciale (delicate salty goodness) tossed in. A perfect marriage of tastes and textures. This menu offered several other items I'd love to try, including some terrific looking desserts. Must. Save. ROOM.

My son and his wife live in Dundee. We enjoy eating at it's many fine establishments. Avoli Osteria's Italian cuisine was a new high point for the four of us (plus one - our Grandaughter) to experience. The entire meal, from our greeting, the superior appetizers (especially the fresh cut thinly sliced cured meats) and the wine, to our entrees, exceeded expectations. Really the only thing that was not four star was the espresso served with our decadent desserts. Avoli Osteria is an establishment with higher price points but it's fare lives up to the ticket.

Wow this place sure is tasty. They have a huge wine selection , lots and lots of authentic Italian dishes. Make sure to leave room for deserts shock shouldn't be a problem considering the serving sizes are on the small side. The dishes are full of rich complicated flavors. Warren Buffett and Paul McCartney had dinner here together back in July 2014. This is a great place to take that special someone for a great night out.

Valentine's Dinner a week early. Utilized their online reservation system (Seat Me) and requested "quiet, dark, away from the front door and kitchen." I received EXACTLY what I asked for. That's important to me because many other local establishments have not honored my requests. Meanwhile as we sat down for dinner - Chef Dario (owner of the restaurant across the street of the same name) is dolling out food at the table next to me. The food they ordered looks aesthetically pleasing and I'm excited to see the menu. Quite a few options with Primi, Secondi, and appetizers. Not a huge drinker myself - but the bar seemed quite well supplied. Wife has a glass of wine, I enjoyed a couple of glasses of Peroni (beer) and we split some nicely seasoned olives as an appetizer. She ordered the special - beef cheek - which was literally falling apart it was so tender. We also shared the carbonara which was stellar...decadent even! I thought we might end up hungry as the portions seemed small, but we left pleasantly full. It was perfect. Meanwhile - her desert was a rather dry piece of cake - not my cup of tea but she enjoyed it. Service was pretty good...waitress didn't know anything but must have pestered the chef because she came back several times with answer. A little pricey - but that's par for the course in that part of town.

This place is wonderful- great atmosphere and delicious food. The primi plates are on the smaller side and great for sharing. We had the carbonara, gnocchi, ravioli and risotto. Every person said something different was their favorite :) Pasta is made fresh. We had the grilled meats and steak for two as our second courses. The steak was amazing. Highly recommend the fingerling potatoes with bone marrow- the best potatoes I have ever had. The wine list is great. And they have an entire page of $30 bottles which is nice. They do take reservations which is a huge plus.

I am not typically a restaurant reviewer, but Avoli chef makes the BEST PASTAS I'VE EVER EATEN IN OMAHA! Wow. Absolutely one of the best meals I've had in a long time. We ordered a 30$ bottle (so nice there is an entire page of them!) and then started with the prosciutto and cheese boards. They were both superb! We ate the carbonara and the gnocchi and they both melted in our mouths. Excellent service. Delicious meal. Avoli is here to stay!

We went to for a special meal with our children and it was wonderful. I was amazed at what they've done to the atmosphere since the last owner and the food was fantastic. Gnocchi- yum! And baked chicken - yum. A great addition to the Dundee restaurant scene.

We love Dario's and now love Avoli. The flavor and tastes were all over the place! We started out with the Summer Vegetable Antipasti, and the ricotta was superb with the marinated eggplant. My wife had Tajarin al Uovo and she raved about the flavor. I had the Ravioli con Gamberi as an entree portion. It was flavorful and had a distinctive color Nero di sepia pasta with stuffed shrimp. I loved the tomato fennel broth it was served in. We had a great time celebrating an anniversary and felt very special by the staff. I hadn't tasted any of the Italian wines before, so we chose one out of the blue Marzemino Trentino. It was a great choice with all of the other flavor s it was a smooth red wine that complimented all of the other flavor s with dinner. I though the prices were reasonable and would suggest ordering the wine by the bottle. We were very satisfied and look forward to an external facelift when the Dundee street construction is compete. The restaurant acoustics aren't the greatest as the noise level at times was intimidating but it settled down as the evening progressed.

Loved Dario's but Avoli was a disappointment. My husband and I started the meal off with a valpoleccela that was fantastic. I started with the burratta and peas. The burratta was fantastic and very creamy and the peas were fresh, but the. Plate was disjointed. There was a mound of peas and bacon on top of purreed peas. The peas and bacon were so cold that the fat of the bacon covered the peas making for an unpleasant mouth feel. Perhaps if there was a swipe of the pea purée and only a few peas it would have been better. My husband had the carpaccio which was so overly salty and again such an outrageous portion it was hard to eat. For my primi I had the pork and veal ragu, by far my favorite dish but again the portion size was out of control, I would have been happy to pay the same price for half the portion. My husband had the lamb ravioli, it was fine but the lamb wasn't the star of the dish as it was minced lamb and in a spinach ravioli. For my entree I had the pork belly. Again portion size was far to large, the pork was over cooked and it was covered in an apricot jam that was too sweet and overpowering. It lay across beans and carrots and asparagus that tasted almost like bushes baked beans, again too sweet and overpowered the pork. My husband had the tagliata, the portion was comparable to something you would get at Cheesecake Factory, and that is not a compliment. The arugula salad covered the dinner plate, the saving grace was the bone marrow croutons. His asked that his steak be cooked to medium rare and it came out closer to medium and again it was completely over salted. The service was good and I do have to say kwammee at the bar is fantastic but after spending $200 on dinner I just wished I had my money back.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
