I think it is as good as any Thai restaurant I have ever had. The drunken noodles are my favorite but you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. Owners are super nice, have given me a thai basil plant even grow at home. Inexpensive and delish. If only they served wine and beer I would go there more often in the evenings. It's the best restaurant in Kearney I think

This is still my favorite restaurant in Kearney but the take out wait times are ridiculous, I called at 5:04Pm (4 minutes after they opened for dinner) and placed an order and they told me there were four orders in front of me and it would be an hour and a half to get my food. I've eaten at this place at least 30 times and this is truly disappointing.

I enjoyed this spot. Had a side salad and a fried flat noodle dish. The noodles were fantastic. Great fresh vegetables and a nice amount of heat. Sticky rice and mangoes for desert. Wonderfull.

Best Thai ever! Wouldn't even dream of going anywhere else. The food is always amazing, as well as the service. The Drunken Noodles and Pad Thai come very highly recommended by me

My husband and I love spicy food, we were told that we have to try Suwannee. We were very disappointed because the food is not authentic at all. It is way too sweet! I'm from Malaysia (neighborhood of Thailand), so I know what real Thai food taste like.

This place has some of the best Thai food I have ever had. So far I have tried both the Pad Thai and the Drunken Noodles each was outstanding. So far the service each time has been excellent. Serving sizes are just right I have never left here hungry and the quality of the food is great. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Had to wait a long time to get a table and the staff seemed really overworked (maybe they were short a server this night?) but the food was really good and met expectations. If the crowded wait was a normal occurrence, I probably wouldn't make this place a habit, but if it was just a one off, I'd be back often. Unfortunately I'm just passing through town, so I won't know for sure, but I'd certainly recommend it to other travelers who don't mind spending a pretty penny on some good non-gas station food.

FOOD: Bland // SERVICE: Nice; LONG take out time, Spicy Basil Fried Rice--- Dish is very bland. Have ordered this countless times back home in Seattle and its highly disappointing here. Also ordered it spicy, rates at most 2/5 at best. Lacking in salt other flavors that make this dish what it is. Pad See U--- (they really simplified the real spelling, understandable given the location--not much diversity). This is my fave dish and a staple at all Thai restaurants (as well as Phad Thai). If this dish doesn't taste well, I assume other noodle dishes won't be great on the menu either. TASTE IS UNDERWHELMING. The broccoli is lacking that "sautéed" flavor it gets with this dish. And again, ordered spicy and it came out 1/5 at best on spicy scale. Still lacking in flavor--I think they may skimp a little on the fish or soy sauce. Crab Rangoon--- aka "Silver" something. Good, but really, it's hard to mess up this appetizer. OVERALL, if you've never had amazing Thai food, you prob will think this place is good. Plus, it the only Thai place in town. I would go here again only if I had a craving for it and were stuck in Kearney NE. Wouldn't recommend it, though.

We stopped here for lunch on a road trip back to Denver based on Yelp reviews. I had the chicken pad Thai and my husband had chicken curry dish. Both were really good and worth getting off the highway for. The only reason I'm giving it four stars instead of five is the wait for food was longer than we expected but not terrible. We would definitely go back !

Delicious food, elegant plating and cozy ambience. Very good service and definitely one of my Kearney favorites. Chicken in the mud, drunken noodles and pad thai, D E L I C I O U S

I agree with Mark O. that it's as good as any Thai restaurant throughout the midwest. Our crew of 5 cleared everything off every plate. From the hot sour soup to the Drunken Noodles to the Lahb Salad (the best). Service was slow, but very gracious. Prices are reasonable. Show up at noon on Saturdays...the lunch crowd fills the place up fast.

Very fine food at reasonable price! I discovered Suwannee Thai restaurant while passing through Kearney on a road trip. I had the Basil Beef entre & a glass of Thai ice tea for dinner (evening meal). The veggies in the beef dish were nicely al dente & the sauce had a nice spicy kick to it. The meat was flavorful & tender. The ice tea was good, although not exceptional. The usual pleasantly spiced, rich texture, creamy drink you expect from Thai ice tea. The price for the meal was very reasonable - around $10-$12 if I recall correctly - for the quantity & quality of the food. I would gladly stop here again next time I am passing through Kearney!

Chef and owner bringing the heat with the Pad Prik. Man, this place is good and without question a must-stop in Kearney.

  • Sarah K.

Yum! Ordered the spring rolls and the drunken noodles... both were delicious. Higher priced for the portions, however the flavors were worth it! Small place but nicely decorated. Would come back again when I'm in the area!

Have eaten here a few times. Really like Thai food and have to eat gluten free. I've had their pad thai, drunken noodles and their curry chicken and all are excellent. I have not had to wait to eat here but usually have been there between 11am and 3pm, have not had to wait very long. If I know I will be driving by Kearney I stop here now always. I wish I could move them to my town so I could eat more often.

This place is a hidden gem! Great food and device. I would recommend the drunken noodles and my daughter and wife would recommend the crispy chicken. It is popular so there is sometimes a wait but it is worth it. Getting there at opening for lunch is a good idea if you want to get seated right away.

We were driving cross country and stopped in Kearney for a night. This place was highly rated on various sites, so figured it was a safe bet. It did not disappoint! We ordered three different things, all excellent. The Shrimp Choo Chee was especially good. The only reason I can't give it five stars is that we couldn't have wine or beer with our meal. Other than that, fantastic!

  • Kari F.

Some of the best Thai food I've ever had anywhere. Seating is very difficult during lunch as they are always full (and seem to prioritize to-go orders over flipping tables); but soooo worth the wait. I'm a huge fan of the Mango Chicken, and you can't go wrong with the pad Thai. I've also had great curry and pineapple fried rice here. For a great appetizer try the crispy silver bags, pricey, but delicious!

I dine at Thai restaurants throughout the Midwest and this place is right at the top of the list. In a non disrupt strip of businesses but the food is fantastic. Started with spring rolls and ended with the spicy basil with beef. Care was given to the presentation of the plates by the owner and the food was top notch.

  • Kevin L.

Basil Beef was very good. While I have only eaten Thai a couple of times. Take any negative reviews lightly. The locals like this restaurant. Early on a Friday evening the place was packed and the carryout business was brisk. Enjoy.

July 2012 Visiting from Chicago and were pleasantly surprised to find awesome Thai food in Nebraska. Nice atmosphere & service too! I'd come back if I lived any closer! Don't skip dessert. The Roti Roti tasted like a home made donut cooked over a camp fire. And the F.B.I. (Fried Bananas and Ice cream) to die for!

Saturday night, dinner - simply amazing meal enjoyed by a couple that considers themselves to have a pretty diverse palate and a determination to seek out new ethnic cuisine restaurants to try when we travel. Everything we ordered was fresh, delightfully seasoned, and a healthy portion for the price. The papaya salad was fantastic! Shared the mee siam and the panang curry for our entree round. Thoroughly enjoyed it all - included our wonderful waiter and the joyful owner to boot. Attentive and speedy service. Already looking forward to stopping back when our adventures bring us across Nebraska again!

It's probably not fair for me to rate after only having had one dish, but pad thai is pretty standard and serves as a good indicator for the rest of the menu. It had all the flavors, but nothing really compelled me to eat more than what was necessary. Still, I guess I have to appreciate this place for what it is... a thai restaurant in the middle of Nebraska. Cause there ain't a damn thing in the northeast worth eating.

Can you say surprise?? We were staying in Kearney for a couple of days on business, and were experiencing some serious Thai food withdrawels. You know, the usual.. Sweats, shaky hands, delirium. Being in smalltown Central Nebraska we did not assume to find a Thai restaurant, but lo and behold Kearney has three listed on Yelp! Love Yelp! Our first choice was closed, so we gladly headed to this little place. Tucked away in a stripmall, we found this restaurant with blinded windows. Once inside, the decor was cute, and the restaurant was very clean. With the scent of Thai food in the air, the 15 minute wait for our take out order succesfully built up our appetite, and expectations! I ordered the drunken noodles per the hosts suggestion, and I oped for basil fried rice for my honey whom was waiting outside. I barely ever order drunken noodles, I am more of a curry or stirfry person but let me tell you.. This dish was awesome! Sweet and savory veggies and meat mixed with soft noodles. They almost had a caramelized quality to them. So very good! All of our orders are always hot or extra hot. Considering the location I ordered both dishes extra hot, which would rank Medium in other parts of the country. Nonetheless both dishes were a success. The rice seemed slightly bland at first, no bold fishsauce flavors at first bite (or last), rather the flavors in this dish are subtle and delectable in their own right. The basil added that unmistakable sweetness. Definately good food, the only qualm I had was the heat level. If you like it hot, you may have to ask for triple extra hot or something :)

Love this place. I eat here probably 80% of the time when I go to Kearney. The curries are my favorite, though the drunken noodles follow very closely behind. Don't miss the spring rolls, either, as the accompanying sauce is amazing.

The family was driving home (Illinois) from visiting family in Colorado when we decided it was time to pull over for dinner. We read a good review for Suwannee on TravelAdvisor and decided to give it a try. WOW! Were we glad we stopped. While the restaurant is located in a strip mall, I ask that you ignore the locale and enjoy the food. I had a dish called Mee Siam which was delicious! It was light, refreshing and very flavorful. My nephew who was traveling with us (and who is very picky) attempted to order rice with tofu and flavored like Pad Thai. We were advised that it could not be done and he ordered rice with tofu and a side of peanut sauce. Whether he would enjoyed it was never known as he tasted my son's order (Crispy Chicken) and couldn't get enough! The dishes everyone else ordered were also very good (one curry dish and the pad thai). We patronized the restaurant on a Saturday evening and the crowd was relatively small (it is near UNeb-Kearney and it was a week or two prior to the start of classes) and the owner came out to our table. He was very friendly and we spoke with him (after we had finished our meal) and learned about his background and how he ended up (with his wife who cooks) in Kearney, NE. An overall enjoyable evening (even though we had several hours of driving ahead) and excellent food. Some of the finest Thai food I've had (and living right outside of Chicago, I've tried a lot). If you ever find yourself in middle-America - this is worth the time to go. I also have family in western SoDak and while I usually travel via 90 to visit, I will travel I-80 in the future so I have an excuse to stop by Suwannee again. Thanks for the great meal and great conversation, Pat.

Delicious surprise to find such great Thai food in Kearney! The spring rolls were fresh but could be better with just a touch of fresh mint...the dipping sauce was perfect. The red curry was my favorite. We will definitely return when traveling through Kearney as I want to try the Pad Thai and the Mango Chicken. The service was very quick and the plating was very beautiful with just the right sized portions for lunch. Was disappointed they are closed on Sunday, but will look forward to stopping again next time I am driving through Nebraska. This place is definitely worth getting off of I-80 for. You will find it near the UNK campus on Hwy 30.

There are 2 Thai restaurants in Kearney and this is often referred to as the 2nd place. This restaurant is close to the university. It is very similar to the other place. I've ordered Duck 'on the beach', Basil beef, fresh spring rolls, and their soup. Overall it's good, but a little pricier than its competitor.

Excellent food. I love both the red curry and green curry. We usually go at lunch time but not when in a hurry. Be prepared to wait for your food to be made fresh. Must ask for sweetner for tea.

This place is a little Kearney secret. The food here is spectacular; it's funny, because it's tucked into a tiny little strip mall next to a book store and a National Guard recruiting center, of all places, and the interior looks like a typical restaurant interior -- but the food could easily be the fare you get an extremely nice $80 a plate joint. Unpretentious in every way, but the food is incredible. I'm addicted to Drunken Noodles. Their app sampler is insanely good, too -- it's hard to ever eat a Crab Rangoon again after trying their "crispy silver bags". Lunch is only in the $8 range.

Food was terrific. We had the curry and kids had fried rice. Also a number of different apps. Only knock was that we waited 90 minutes for take out.

I live near the university campus and I'm an Asian international student... So when I say it's amazing asian/thai food in the middle of nowhere, it is :)

Surprisingly great Thai food in the middle of no where U.S.A. I think the owners are the same as the Wild Rice Thai across town. (Two Thai restaurants in this town, who would've though) Still, some of the best Thai I've ever had. I'd tried virtually everything major on the menu and no disappointment. Can't find too much of a difference between this one and Wild Rice other than this one seems a little bit busier normally as it's newer and in a much more noticeable location. In other words, what I'm trying to say is EAT HERE.

Great find in Kearney of all places. In town for business and my colleagues agreed the food was delicious. Ginger tea, spring rolls, calamari, pad thai, and even the FBI (fried banana and ice cream) were great. FBI is very shareable.

After traveling all day through Iowa and half of Nebraska, we wanted to get off the Interstate and away from the standard road fare that we were sick of. This is a few miles off the highway, but it's definitely worth the trip. The food was delightful and our service was spectacular, beautifully prepared and served. We will recommend this restaurant to anyone who is either living in Kearney or passing through. Excellent!

From what I hear, this place was started by the chefs who used to work across town at Wild Rice (but left). It was really impressive. I ordered "the special" - a boiled chicken served over rice with a ginger/garlic sauce. Simple, but SO good. I have also tried a couple curries, some better than others. My wife and a colleague both swear by the Drunken Noodles. It is quite busy at lunch time, so I tend to go right before or after the rush. The staff and owners are friendly, know many patrons by name, and it adds to a comfortable atmosphere. It is within walking distance of UNK campus, and I will likely be there on a regular basis.

Wife and I had lunch here today and were really good-impressed with the food quality. Had to wait near 30 minutes, but was worth the wait. We had a green curry, chicken noodles, and spring rolls. Really good, all of it. Service was...ok.

My husband and I recently relocated from Denver which had a wide array of delicious ethnic food to choose from. Upon coming to Kearney, we tried not to have too high of expectations upon ordering from Suwannee. Despite having lower than standard expectations about the food, we were still disappointed. We ordered the Thai green curry. The broth was watered down and didn't taste coconutty enough. The veggies were overdone, too soft, and unfortunately tasted like baby food due to being overcooked. I had the Suwannee Beef Noodle Soup which was decent. The broth was delicious, but the noodles were a bit too overcooked. It seems pricey too. We decided that Suwannee doesn't even compare to Wild Rice Thai which is cheaper, bigger proportions, and more delicious! Hopefully, if we decide to come back to Suwannee next time, other menu items will be more appetizing and cooked just right.

Still a great fan, and I've since tried their fried rice, which is quite good. Wanted to add one addendum, though, because I can't get over it. They've started adding whipped cream on the top of their Thai Iced Teas, which is just weird. If you're like me, you'll want to remember to ask for it without that.

What the hell? What is this place doing in Kearney? The food is authentic and reasonably priced. I've eaten there twice. My wife loves it, and the in-laws were impressed as well. Certainly the best Asian food in Kearney, but it could very well be the best food in Kearney, period. Service was always good. The atmosphere is lacking, but you forget all about that when eating.

  • Jason W.

Love this place! You cannot go wrong with the drunken noodles w/ chicken. IMHO it is the best thing on the menu. I haven't tried much else, but everything I've seen being ordered looks absolutely delicious.

My saving grace in the middle of Nebraska! I expected to have to eat steak and potatoes for the work week I was in Kearney and by a miracle this restaurant surfaced! I had the green curry with tofu and vegetables the first night and the Panang curry the second. The egg rolls are not the best I've had but still very good. Save room for the warm rice with mango dessert. The service is very slow and they don't take reservations. I didn't miss the fact that they don't serve alcohol. I highly recommend going if you are in a 50 mile radius and bring your patience with you. But it's worth the wait!

Wow what a great place in Kearney! Excellent Thai food and the prices are very reasonable. I've had Thai food all over the country and this ranks among the top. The service is great, food is fresh and cooked to order, and the place is very clean. The only drawback is no booze. Sorry i love a little Asahi and Saki with my thai but I'll get over it. The menu has a very wide range and everything we've had the last three or four visits have been great!
