Shawn J.
You're in Fairbury and you're hungry. That means you're in trouble, unless you drive North on Hwy 15 as out by the WalMart Supercenter is Runza. What the heck is Runza? It's different. It's kinda hard to explain. I'm just going to cheat and use a description I found online: "A runza (also called a bierock, fleischkuche or Kraut Pirok) is a yeast dough bread pocket with a filling consisting of beef, pork, cabbage or sauerkraut, onions, and seasonings. They are baked in various shapes such as a half-moon, rectangle, round (bun), square, or triangle. In Nebraska, the runza is usually baked in a rectangular shape." The original Runza "bread pocket" is NOT for everyone and I'm NOT a fan of them. But Runza has an extensive menu so you're not stuck with trying strange food unless you want to. I like their double cheeseburgers. They say they never use frozen meat, all I know is they taste good. And they make their onion rings by hand. You want ice cream or a shake, they got it. I also like their chicken sandwiches. This location can occasionally get busy but it's kept very clean. Service is good and attentive, they make your food to order so that's why you have to wait a bit. If you find yourself in Fairbury and you're hungry it's worth checking out. They also have a drive thru if you're in a hurry to get somewhere and can't go in. Caution: They don't stay open too late, and if the weather gets interesting as Nebraska weather can they've been known to just close the doors and call it a night. That's rare but it's worth mentioning.
