After being featured in a local article, the family and I descended upon it to see what the excitement was about for dinner on a Saturday night. The ribs were described as falling off the bone and burnt ends were what was on my radar, rare to find in the area. The burnt ends, brisket or pork, comes with two sides. I chose beans and corn fritters. Burnt ends lacked smokey flavor, almost as if they were smoked then thrown into the oven for 8 hours as these were terribly dry. Beans had the house flavored sauce as part of it, you can taste the vinegar. Fritters are a nice option. For $13.99, you get what you pay for and you'll be wanting more. My wife chose the two meat, with chicken and ribs (3), you get three sides (salad, fries, macaroni salad). When asked if there was a dark or light, the reply was uncertain. It came with mix of both. Ribs are smoked and unsauced. Both of these, similar to the burnt ends, dry. Fries are tasty, but nothing to write home about. It was a packed night, for the party of 5 it was about 15 minutes. Service was great, though they looked overwhelmed likely due to the recent local press. Only mishap was the garden salad that was ordered didn't come ahead of the meal but at the same time as all entrees. When it comes to barbecue, I'll look elsewhere as this is a jaunt for me to come to regularly and not worthy of the drive. It may work for those in Elkhorn, but there are much better options in the Metro Area.

Sometimes I write lengthy reviews and other times the entire experience can be summed up with just a few words. This is one of those times when brevity speaks volumes. Good atmosphere, good BBQ, and OUTSTANDING customer service!

A basket of fried pickles (which came with fries and onion peels) were $8.49. That's just ridiculous when you're charging $12 for a huge plate of meat, beans and fries. Burnt ends (pork and beef) were not even close to burnt, and the pork was so dry it tasted like jerky. Chicken nachos were covered in some ranch/BBQ sauce combo, which made them taste overly sweet. I love nachos, and I love BBQ chicken and I could barely stomach more than a couple of chips. The service was prompt and very friendly, but it couldn't outshine the food. Sorry, but there's no way we'll go back.

We have visited Boy and Charlie's numerous times and also had them cater our rehearsal dinner for our wedding. We love the atmosphere and the food is great. Service could definitely be improved but we think the food is worth it!

In short, the food is good but overpriced. We ordered 3 appetizers (fried pickles, sweet potato coins, and corn fritters) and all were very good but for the amount of food you receive the price of each basket should've been $2-$3 lower. The same can be said for my "plate" of burnt ends. I literally received a handful or so of burnt ends and what maybe amounted to a ice cream scoop worth of beans and corn soufflé. If we hadn't ordered appetizers I would've left hungry. My kids each ordered a kid's meal and no complaints there from anyone. The littler kids had leftovers and considering that their drinks were included the price was fair. The service was good but considering the price/portion point I'm not sure we'll be back.

SMALL PORTIONS, HIGH PRICES, SUB-PAR BBQ I had an average lunch experience here a few months back so I thought I'd give dinner a shot. I ordered the 3 meat combo to go. When I went to pick it up I was handed one small Styrofoam container. I said to the person that gave it to me " I ordered the three meat combo, is this it?" I took it out of the bag and opened it just to make sure. Indeed all three meats that I had ordered and all three sides that came with it were packed into that small container. With tax my bill came to about $17. I was in disbelief at how little food I got, but I figured for that price it must be amazing. I ordered the sausage, the brisket, and the chopped pork. The piece of sausage was about two and a half or three inches long, there was one and a half strips of brisket, and about a cup of the chopped pork. The sides came in little plastic containers that held about a half cup each of the three sides that I ordered. To be fair the sides were pretty good. I ordered the baked beans, the potato salad, and some sort of corn bake. The pork was dry and flavorless. chopped pork is literally the easiest smoked meat to make, so it amazed me that it was not good. The brisket was dry, very little smoke flavor, and tough. The sausage was actually quite good which leads me to believe that it is not a sausage that they make themselves. It is probably a ready made sausage that they just throw in a smoker. Overall very disappointed, as I am with most barbecue here in Omaha. The only place that I have found that has great consistent BBQ is Hartland BBQ. They will definitely be getting my money next time. Hartland's portions are large and very flavorful. You get a lot for your money. Do yourself a favor and skip Boyd and Charles smoked meats.

Solid BBq joint. We favor a dry rub so Boyd & Charlies is a good choice. The house sauces on the table leave a lot to be desired. .They are rather watery and tasteless...but again if you enjoy a good dry rub this is the place for you. Service I'd friendly and prompt.

The food was delicious and very quick to get to us. They have 4 different bbq sauces. The wait staff was very nice and on top of everything. I went over lunch time. Very reasonable. There was two of us and we had a slice of pie for $20.00 will go back!

My husband and I decided to check this restaurant out after seeing it on the Best of Omaha list for best BBQ. Let's just say, it did not live up to its reputation! The buffalo wings we ordered as an appetizer stole the show. I ordered the two meat combo: chicken and ribs with coleslaw, beans, and corn fritters. The corn fritters were good but let's face it.. anything fried is bound to be tasty. The coleslaw was refreshing but the beans were terrible. I was really looking forward to the chicken. I was told that it would be a wing and a chicken breast. What came out was a whole different story. It looked as if they confused actual chicken with cat food. It was basically shaved chicken and not very much of it. Also, it was very dry and bland. The ribs didn't even have barbecue sauce on them. Plus they were cold! My husband also had the brisket. It was very dry and grey in color. We figured we could actually enjoy our meal by adding barbecue sauce. We were sadly mistaken. The regular sauce had way too much vinegar. The whiskey sauce, which the waitress raved about, was basically whiskey with a hint of the regular sauce. Although the food was terrible, the service was very pleasant. The staff was very friendly! The ambiance was just right, if you don't mind dead animals hanging over your head while you're eating their family/friends.

If you want asskicking good food THIS is the place to be! I dont care what ANYONE else had to say about this place IF you didn't enjoy the food and didn't speak up then you are the only one to blame! I've been here at least 10 times and its always grwat, if you don't like the price then DONT BUY IT! this one of thee BEST BBQ places in Omaha and those are not easy to cone by here sadly. ........

I'm giving this place 3 stars because I'm from the KC area and I know good BBQ and although this place is just fine it pales in comparison to a number of places I've been to in KC.. I'm a little shocked with the close proximity to KC that Omaha doesn't have more to offer in terms of BBQ. But I have to say this is by far the best BBQ I've had in Omaha. They have great lunch specials, sauces are quite tasty, the beans were great but the fries could use some work.. (Same fries the use across the street at Shevy's) I like the feel in downtown Elkhorn reminds me of my small town I grew up in...

This is a great restaurant in an out of way place. BBQ was very good and the kids loved the animals on the walls

Overall, Boyd and Charlie's was good, but I would never go out of my way to eat here. The location of this restaurant, in "downtown" Elkhorn makes it feel quaint and cute. ( I can't even write the words downtown and Elkhorn in the same sentence without snickering.) The interior of the place is rustic and cozy with dark tables and seating and different animals on the walls. They also have a small bar. The service that we received was excellent, so there is no complaint there. The waiter was excellent. I ordered the pulled pork with fries as my side, which was priced at $8.49. I received an ample portion of pork but an itty, bitty serving of french fries. The pork comes without any sauce, which I actually prefer, and you dress it yourself at the table. There are four sauce choices, which are all mediocre at best. The spicy mustard sauce was the best, with the whiskey coming in second. The regular house sauce and the spicy sauce were poor, in my opinion. I don't know what was in those sauces, but they were strange. For the price of the sandwich combo, you should receive an adequate side portion. My other half ordered the special of the day, a rib meal with 2 sides and a slice of toast. They don't seem to have plain cornbread here, which was a disappointment. He chose fries and corn fritters for his sides. Again, the side portions left a lot to be desired. The ribs were alright, but a bit on the tough side as they didn't want to release from the bone. At $8.99 it was reasonably priced, but had it not been on special, I can say we would have been a bit disappointed. Would I eat here again? Maybe. I would not, however, go out of my way to dine here again.

The only thing missing was mashed potatoes and gravy! The food was good. I like a smokier flavor in my bbq, but this was good. The corn cakes were great, the coleslaw was horrible. I love vinegar based bbq sauces, so of course, the sauce was great too. My favorite meat was the turkey by far, the brisket I had tasted like old pot roast. I was upset with that. Also, this is not a great place for large parties for there is not waiting room. There is very limited space actually. Overall it was good and we would probably go back. Food - 7 Service - 7 Atmosphere - 7 Beer/wine - 7 7/10

Good BBQ for Omaha. Service was spot on. Great smoked flavor. Will come back.

What happened to this place? I live in Elkhorn and used to eat here often. Hadn't been in about 6 months. My wife and I went with her parents. For $14.75, I received a tiny salad, about 4 ounces of beans, limp, tasteless sweet potato fries and 6 ribs that had very little meat. The ribs were still good, I used to think they were the best in town before Mojos opened. My wife's chicken was dry and the portions minuscule. My in-laws were very disappointed, as I had enthusiastically suggested Boyd and Charlies. It feels like they are in a "cost-cutting" mode and the quality of the food has definitely gone downhill. I really hope things change, because it had been a great place for lunch and dinner.

Stick with the pulled pork. Turkey and brisket where dry. They need to work on there sauces. Lack flavor. Whiskey sauce was the better of the four offered. The decor is awesome and very welcoming. Will come back but gonna stick with chopped pork sandwich.

My rep and I went at about 1:30PM and it was pretty empty, so service was good. We both ordered a sandwich, mine was the brisket and his was the chopped pork. I also ordered a half slab of ribs so I could try them. They are larger baby backs or maybe small loin ribs. I will give them credit, in that, they did have some smoke flavor and the meat was slightly pink and not gray. But, beyond that they were not that great. Very bland and no bark. Dunno if they rub them prior to a short smoke. They had three sauce choices. All three were marginal. The best was the whiskey but the house and spicy were foul. Even my rep who is not a picky SOB like me, thought the sauce was nasty. He said his sandwich was bland and needed a ton of sauce to get any flavor. The chopped pork in it, looked OK but had no bark. Am I nuts or should good chopped/pulled pork have bits of black/brown bark mixed in? My butts and shoulders are damn near black when I start to pull them and you can't help but get flecks of black/red/brown in pulled pork. My brisket looked promising having been cut correctly and it had a slight smoke ring. But, it was way too lean and had very little smoke flavor. it was also gray. Overall, I would give this a 6 out of 10. Don't go out of your way.

Meh. Had lunch here with my wife, and ordered the chopped pork sandwich. This turned out to be just chopped pork on a bun. No sauce! I was able to add sauce and make the sandwich palatable but as a BBQ joint this place just does not stand out.

As a vegetarian, my favorite is the Fried Mac and Cheese - yum! This awesome review about their slow cooked authentic BBQ ( omaha.net/articles/boyd-… ) is what turned me on to the place.

Not bad BBQ. I had the pork burnt ends but want to go back and try the chicken. Service was only so so though.

A place with pretty good BBQ sandwiches and a few stellar sides. Stop by if you're in the area gastronomicfightclub.com…
