I've only had their pupusas but they are very good. Call in orders are almost always filled incorrectly. The sauces are pretty good and pricing is outstanding.

Both good and bad to say so I'll break it down - They started our visit with an itty bitty basket of chips and salsa. I think the 4 of us each had 3 chips. The salsa is delicious. The tiny $1 tacos were ok. Good flavor but the meat was pretty fatty (and did I mention they were tiny?) This was my first and last pupusa. I ordered the pork and cheese and it was downright bland. Thank goodness for the coleslaw stuff and the wonderful and spicy green salsa. (How do you make pork and cheese bland? Honestly. It should have been full of flavor.) The kid's cheese quesadilla... Oh heavens it was delicious! Incredibly full of gooey cheeses and served alongside standard beans and rice. I was jealous of my 5 year old. Not sure if I'll be back yet. If I do I'll order a quesadilla or two alongside what ever else I try to be safe!

I wanted to like this place, it had all of the hallmarks of a great hole in the wall place. Old Wendy's architecture and homemade paint job on the outside with bright colors inside led me to believe that I'd be on the right track for some authentic Salvadoran grub. The free chips and salsa were an added bonus and the salsa was pretty tasty. I ordered a tamal de gallina (chicken), tamal de elote con crema (sweet corn masa) and a bean and cheese pupusa. That's where it all went to hell. The surly waitress brought each of my three dishes about 60 seconds after I heard the distinct ding of a foodservice microwave. Tamales are steamed for gods sake! Throw them back in the steamer for the same amount of time and you have fresh tamales... The pupusa was pretty piss poor as well. The beans were blander than Great Value refried beans from a can and the masa had zero flavor and a strange chewiness. In other words: go north to 24th Street my friends.

So-so tacos, that become pretty good tacos on Monday's, because they are only $1, which makes me less critical. The beef sometimes has more fat than carne. All in all, decent. Ladies at the window are not friendly or welcoming in the least. I get the feeling they would rather be somewhere else, like.....walking over hot coals instead of working there. Yes, I'll keep going. A little witchiness, won't deter me from getting cheap tacos on Monday!

Cheap tacos on Monday... $1.00. Tacos aren't as good as other places that one can find in 24th Street. But... for something around the corner in Bellevue... it is a good enough place. The salsa is good and spicy! The tortillas are made from scratch. It is an El Salvadoran place so I dont want to compare it completely to Mexican places. Their steak has more fat than other places... If you want the best... try El Reys on 24th and Q!

This place is just one of the little local dives that's starting to revive Bellevue. I found this place on Urbanspoon and decided to check it out during lunch on a Saturday. When you first walk in, it's the pick up counter/register. Keep walking forward and then wait for someone to seat you. Once your done with your meal you'll return to the register to pay on your way out. I went with a group of four people so we all got something different. Their menu has mostly mexican food but has a page dedicated to El Salvadorian fare. The enchiladas were good, so were the tacos and quesadillas. I got their horchata- and yup it's tasty. I ventured out and tried something on the El Salvadorian side. I got a papusa, and man I'm hooked! It's basically a stuffed sope... Mhmm I'll be back as they have several varieties with different stuff encased in a papusa. Everyone in the group agreed that this place got a stamp of approval for a regular lunch spot from now on. If you like some of the taquerias in south O this place is right up there-- it's delish :)

The girlfriend and I wanted to try somewhere new, so we decided to give El Chaleteco a chance. Big mistake. The only English speaking waitress was out on break so ordering was not so easy, then several to go orders came out for pick up. The people coming to pick up orders appeared to know the owners personally, seeing as their orders came before ours. It took 20 minutes to get a plate of cold nachos with some meat that was most definitely not chicken, then another 10 to get two quesadillas, one of which had the same mysterious meat inside. All in all the food wasn't bad considering it was cold, until we left and checked the bill and realized they had charged us $3 extra. Won't be returning...at least not until I learn a little Spanish so I can complain in person.

This was my first time coming to this place. I was not impressed at all! Maybe it was a slow day for them but I went in thinking it would be something quick. We were seated right away, but took 30 minutes to get our food. I was not happy with the taste of food at all! My boyfriend ordered a torta but asked for no tomatoes. If you're going to make us wait for a long time, you should have the orders right. I would of understood if it was very busy, but it wasn't. I saw two tables that left and it took them 10 to 15 minutes to clear one off. I will most likely not go there again.

Unfortunately, we did not have the luck others have had here. After eating at several places on 24th Street, we stopped here to end the day. We expected at least similar experiences here. The service was fast and friendly, the employees were great. We laughed at the signs placed to cover up holes in the walls and the large amount of extension cords. We got our food and it looked good, but after we started to eat we realized the tortillas were completely soaked with grease. As in, my tortilla was falling apart and it tasted mushy. The al pastor and lengua tasted like it was cooked fine but the grease and mushiness kept me from finishing. I will have to go back and try other things off the menu or give the tacos a second chance.

The food is mediocre at best and the service was very disappointing. I had the carne asada plate and it was terrible. The beans were watered down, the veggies weren't fresh and the carne asada wasn't even the right kind of meat that is used for this dish. I won't be going back to this place.

I went for the first time on $1 taco night (Monday), and I was surprised that I got free chips and salsa. The chips were eh but I did like the salsa. I got two chicken tacos and a bean and cheese papusa. On the side came a slaw (presumably for the tacos), a red sauce and a green sauce. I don't know what the green sauce was, but it was spcicy and tasty! I'm not sure why the other reviewers said this place wasn't spicy, because it was. The salsa had big chunks of jalapano, the slaw had jalapano, and the chicken and sauces were spicy (all in a good way). The tacos were on fresh corn tortillas with fresh onions and cilantro and a lime wedge on the side. The papusa was good but a little bland; perhaps I should have tried something other than the bean and cheese. This place was too spicy for my husband (well, he can eat papusas, right? the big baby!), so I may have to make it my own special place. I'll be back for the tacos!

FRESH, and delicious!! Pupusas, huaraches, caldo, tamales... I have tried it all and it is all fresh and it is very hard for me to give any restaurant the full 5 stars but this place deserves it. However, if you're looking for a quick meal this place might not be for you because like I said, it is FRESH...

This little family-run resturant has good mexican and El salvadorian food. Not somewhere to go for the ambiance, but the food is quite good. My husband ordered the whole fried fish, which was delicious and served with homemade tortillas. the service is a bit slow (the waitresses are the teenage daughters of the owners) but it's worth a visit.

Great food and the price is right. Small, small dining room but the food makes up for that.

This place is one of my two favorite restaurants in Bellevue. If you want authentic Mexican tacos, I believe this is the only place in Bellevue that serves them. The tortillas are homemade and fabulous. With these, your choice of meat, onion and cilantro, it is perfection. The owners come from El Salvador, and they have papusas with your choice of filling- these come with spicy cabbage, which I love, and tomato sauce, which I never use. There is a diverse menu, something for everyone, but the tacos are great. I've tried tacos at several South Omaha places and I think El Chalateco is the best. Prices are very good, but they do not have $1 tacos on Tuesday any more. No problem, because they are worth every penny at $1.65 and they come with a lot of meat. Papuans are $2 and I order one ever time I go in. I also love the big screen TV tuned in to Univision or some other Latino channel. Once you taste the homemade tortillas, you'll be back for more. There is also a selection of Mexican pop if you need a fix.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
