Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Medicare. Taquitos were really bland. But then again that is how all food in North Dakota is. If you are looking for flavor, look elsewhere. Fast service and friendly
(2)Nikolas G.
In my opinion the best authentic Mexican restaurant in the state of North Dakota hands-down!

We didn't expect much looking for Mexican food in ND since we live in Texas .But after reading some reviews we got our hopes up and thought this place maybe atleast a decent Mexican place. The staff seem annoyed that they had customer at the restaurant. Staff wasn't helpful with the menu again I didn't expect much coming from Texas. On a good note the food didn't take that long to arrive but of course that should've been a WARNING sign for the quality . We took our food back to the hotel room and as we open the boxes we were not greeted by lovely mexican spell and spices but instead we were presented with something that might as well have come out of they microwave .... TV dinner. The chips were cold and soggy, the were rubbery, the fajita meat tasted like spam, as I'm writing this I'm thinking I should've just gone to Wal-Mart an gotten something out of their frozen section even a can of corn would've been better then this. Of course it could be my fault to have my expectations high because I've experienced quality Mexican food so my taste buds were looking for certain AMAZING texture and flavors. If you like bland and soggy this is your place to go, but if you're like me stay away.

Great food. Great atmosphere. The salsa is bland unless you order the tomatillo salsa or habanero salsa and mix it in (99 cents extra) but well worth it. The alacarte authentic tacos are one of the best things on the menu. The chorizo taco is spicy and the carnitas and carne asada tacos are excellent too. Get all three.

Horrible experience! Taco salad was unrecognizable steaming green taco soup in a tortilla shell! Green cooked lettuce sludge! Fajitta funditta was flavor less rubber. I was up sold to the the steak because of the "specially mairnaded steak" the steak didn't even have salt added. When I asked how long the steak was marinaded, I was told that it wasn't. When I said it wasn't appetizing, the waitress told me, "well you pigged out on chips and salsa" you don't say that to people! Ever! One basket of chips for a table of 4 is not pigging out and the comment is offensive! Following it with, "if you didn't like it, leave" tops the cake and had me livid! Tried to talk to a manager, but he called said waitress over to translate for him, so any hope of him hearing the rude treatment is gone.... the guacamole is too die for and my sons kids meal was great.

Love this place, I have been coming here since before they did the remodel. The dishes are low-priced for this area.

I had high hopes of this place but after they brought out the chips and "salsa" I was very disappointed. The salsa tasted like it was poured from a can of crushed tomatoes. I went ahead and ordered the chicken and cheese enchiladas. I only had two bites and didn't finish the rest. They were nasty and had absolutely zero flavor. Fast forward a year later and I gave this place another try. The salsa was still gross and so was the food. It the 3.5 years I have lived here I've only eaten here twice and both times I hated it.

Best Mexican food you'll find within 100 miles of the Canadian border! Had a house margarita, had great flavor. Can't go wrong with any of the entrees from the grill.

Authentic Mexican!! BEST find in Minot! My fav.'s are the Pollo Mi Mexico and Tacos. Always good! I did try the Pork Carnitas the other night and was sad to say that it wasn't very good, super dry. Everything else I've tried has been great! **UPDATE** Had the Pork Carnitas this weekend and it was tender and juicy! Redemption! :)
(4)Chad L.
Love this place! I've been about 3 times and it's always clean and the service is fast and friendly. Great chips and salsa served with a drink shortly after arrival. Large menu and everything I've ordered has been great. Large portions at a reasonable price. Is this really Minot?
(4)Kaixuan Z.
Below the average level of the Mexican food I have ever had. It was barely the simple combination of ingredients. Two star is only for the quantity.
(2)Jeremy M.
Friendly and fast service. Refills were fast. Had the Especial Dinner. So much food for $15.99. Served on two plates. The only downside was that I had so much food I could not eat the fried ice cream, way too full.

September 7, 2011 Wednesday - lunch 1:30 PM 2 Adults Atmosphere - 5 stars Food - 3 stars Service - 3 stars Atmosphere - Near WalMart is this small strip mall with this Mexican restaurant. The walls are painted with a brief history of Mexico, this was really done well. The tables and chairs had been made in Mexico and are covered with a Mexican theme. Food Appetizer - Free chips and salsa. The salsa was in a large bowl and plenty, and I used some with the main course. The chips were filled in a basket. Neither item made me say wow that was good. Main Course - I went with the lunch special 10. This was two enchiladas, asked if I wanted chicken or beef. I assumed beef was shredded beef but it was ground beef. The ground beef had no noticeable seasoning. The enchiladas were lightly covered in red sauce, lettuce, queso blanco, and diced tomatoes. I would have loved more enchilada sauce. I picked the rice over the beans as my side. The rice was tasty. Dessert - I do not think about dessert for lunch. Service - We were promptly seated and chips and salsa and menus delivered. We both ordered water and got those quickly. We placed our order with the waitress shortly thereafter. The food was delivered quickly with a young man with huge pot holder gloves going to his elbows. I do wonder why you serve plates this hot. My food should have not required the plate to be in the oven. Before we had a chance to take a bite our waitress was checking to see how things were. Then we never saw her again. We actually had to walk up to the cashier station to pay our bill. Future - From my friends here in Minot they have said they have had good experiences here and are surprised so I will try it again.

Worst dining experience ever. I went with a group of people last night. The restaurant was busy, but no more than it is (or should be) on a Friday or Saturday night. However, it was in total chaos! We didn't see a server for 20 minutes. We ordered our drinks and food and waited....and waited.... Finally, half an hour later, 4 of the 12 drinks arrived. Then only 8 of the 12 entrees arrived. The food runner was totally confused, bringing dishes we never ordered. An hour into our meal, half the table still did not have drinks or food, and our was no where to be found. We began ordering drinks from the bar, which was manned by 3 and sometimes 4 bartenders- why 3 and 4 bartenders cannot get drinks out within an hour is a mystery. I finally tracked down a manager, since I could not find the server, and asked about our food. He could not figure anything out. The server finally came over and insisted that our entire table except one guest had received food. Of his entree she said, "the kitchen was not ready for it". I've been in the restaurant industry for 18 years; I have no idea what that meant. Finally, and hour and a half after ordering, the rest of the table received their entrees and drinks. The food? The food was terrible! Very bland, unseasoned ground beef wrapped in flour tortillas (that's Mexican?) with bland tomato sauce. It was like licking cardboard. But where the food lacked flavor, it contained unfriendly bacteria. I have been sick since the wee hours of this morning. This may sound gross, but if was not for Imodium, I would have to wear a diaper- I've traveled many parts of the world and do not have a weak stomach. To sum, until this place gets some NEW MANAGEMENT in the front and back of the house and better food, avoid, avoid it. There are much better places to dine in Minot.

It's nice to see Latinos working at a Mexican restaurant in ND and I agree that this is as close to authentic Mexican you're going to get in ND. Saying that I've had much better and I'm not a fan.
(2)Jody W.
Do yourself a favor and try this place, order the especial mi mexico, or the nachos rodeo, or the burritos mi mexico.
(5)Scott O.
Quick service and great food. Always leave full.
(5)Marie P.
Had lunch there 2/2/13 with family for Nicki's 30th Birthday! Food was so good and the Margarita's were kicking. Chili Rellano was just the right amount of Heat. Very beautifully decorated and they sung Happy Birthday to!
(5)Kelli B.
Excellent! I've tried many things on the menu and haven't been disappointed yet. The service is good, food comes out fast. I highly recommend trying the Mi Mexico Special, yum!

Not Mexican food by any stretch of the imagination. The "cheese" enchiladas were filled with, and oozing out, what I think was the "white cheese sauce" I saw in glass jars in a market. No spices were detectable, not even salt. The place looks like a Mexican restaurant, smells like one, has the murals and the music and the smiling servers, but ye gods, the food was awful. "Bland" is an understatement -- the food seemed cooked sans seasonings of any kind, including salt. Two stars for the decor, the atmosphere and the service. It's a fun place to visit. Just don't eat anything. Taco Bell really is better.
(2)Jessica P.
The cheese dip is my favorite! Granted, the menu items don't present much variety (same cheese sauce is used in different items, the rice and beans are typical..), but I have always enjoyed very quick service and hot food.
(3)Ruby J.
Our favorite place to eat in Minot. We will schedule our drive thru to Bismarck so we can have lunch here. I usually have the fajita chicken taco salad. Yum! I feel anyone who thinks taco johns is a better choice should choose taco john because you don't know what real Mexican food is suppose to taste like! Just wish we had Mi Mexico in Williston!
(5)Amanda T.
The best salsa!!! I love this place. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is awesome, and the service....well sometimes cant speak english very well but is amazing!!!!
(5)Rebecca N.
Save the money and gas. Go to taco bell. The service is slow, the food is tasteless and I regret eating here. Everything tastes like cardboard and when my tacos, came out the, meat was cold. Buy a Mexican cookbook and you will be much happier.
(1)Wendy B.
As close to authentic in Minot. I have been several times. We have always been seated promptly and service was quick. There are a few different types of salsa they can bring out if you ask and all are very good. They are quick to make suggestions or make changes to things on request. If you can save room for dessert the fried ice cream is awesome!! I've ordered the Carne asada tacos and they were great!! Also a good bean dip in addition to the salsa.
(4)Tom S.
Best Mexican food you will find in Minot. Portions are generous and service has always been great. The atmosphere features a Mexican history lesson and the Mexican theme is tastefully done for a strip mall location.
(4)Aldo P.
Having lived in Mexico until I was 13 years old, I know some good Mexican food. Mi Mexico is as close as you get to authentic Mexican food in Minot. Every time I walk into this restaurant, I just feel at home (I can finally talk to somebody else in spanish lol). From what I know, it's a family owned restaurant and their food more of a southern mexico kind of food, just a little different than what I am used to (since I'm from northern Mexico). I have tried almost everything, and I'm not disappointed yet. I love their carnitas plate and my wife loves the taquitos. Their chips and salsa are the bomb (freshly made). Great food, great price ($25 regularly for two people incl. tip).
(4)Israel G.
Loved the steak fajitas. They also served chips and salsa once you got to your seat. A million times plus infinity better than Paradiso
(5)Amber C.
As with most of the other reviews, I agree; best you are going to get for the region we live in. Great staff, great food! They honor active duty military members as well their spouses and retirees; much appreciated.
(5)Austin W.
This was my first experience with food in Minot, ND. To be honest, I love Mexican food and this place was definitely a good one. The prices were a bit high, but I soon found out it was a region cost of living issue not just the restaurant. Good food, good staff!
(4)Corinne C.
Take it for what it is.. This is as good as it gets for Mexican food in Nothern America! Service was really great I love the atmosphere and the attention to the Mexican Decor! Ole'.. Chips were hot and salsa is blan but good. Order the habanero salsa aye aye aye!!! I ordered the house margarita on the rocks in the medium size and it was humongous! The flavor is ahh but I still drank it. I felt a buzz.. For the entrée I ordered the mixed fajitas. Sakely sure which one it was there's a few on the menu. But it had chicken, beef, onions, bell peppers etc. Served with rice and refried beans. Very good!! I was a little surprised.. Coming for ND. Sorry! But I grew up in South Tejas... It doesn't get better than that in the US. Tortillas are store bought.. Frown :( Overall, it's a good little piece of Mexico in Minot. So enjoy!

Ok. Second try before a review. Let's face it. Not everyone nails it in the first try. This place. Not good. That is an understatement. I can tell you anyone who put a review on here above a 2 star, OBVIOUSLY. has never had real, authentic Mexican food. They horrible, canned tomatoes for salsa. Their cheese. Gross. I don't know what it is. They did, in fact, do a decent sopapilla. Just adds to my frustration of the food here in Minot and why we cook 360 days out of the year. I have not, nor will I eat in so I cannot speak on service. I imagine it must be decent. We will never eat here as long as we breath on this great earth. Either should you. :)

On the scale of inedible to Taco Bell, this place falls somewhere in between, but I'm leaning toward the former. I had the fajitas, which according to this place includes melted cheese on top of meat and beans. The meat was weird. Everything was overlooked. Every piece of food on my plate basically was blended in with the rest and cemented together with cheese. Even as I write this review, my stomach cries out for pepto bismal, which is conveniently located at the Wal Mart next door. This leads me to wonder if this restaurant was intentionally built next to Wal Mart so customers can quickly and easily take care of their urgent medical needs after eating here. By the way, I got the pepto. I went with a group. Every single other individual in the group is worried they might have to buy next shorts in the way to our destination or at least suffer on the side of the road for a while. After saying all that, you might say why a one star review? Why not no stars? Or negative stars if such a thing exists? Because the service was good. If you are thinking of eating here, don't. This place should change its name to no Bueno.
(1)Marisol R.
I love their chicken taquitos totally recommend them. The camarones al la Diabla are ok not the best.
(5)Bobby J.
Been here twice. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food in an authentic Mexican restaurant then this is the place for you. Both times I have been here I've ordered the California Burrito which has beans rice and carne asada steak with a Jarritos (Mexican soda). Not only is the food good but the interior of the restaurant will make you feel like you're in mexico. The Interior is decorated with traditional mexican decorations and there is usually has soccer playing on the tv's with mariachi music in the background. Overall, this place is good and I will definitely be back for more.
(4)Riley L.
It's as good of Mexican food you're going to get this far North. The food is good, the service is decent.. One complaint I did have though was they seem to always pile the customers way to close together.
(4)Nathaniel H.
The margarita's were delicious. The food was edible, but definitely not what I consider to be good Mexican food. The service was also lacking. I won't be coming back to this place unless I'm just dying for a margarita.
(2)Ashley B.
The food was yummy! It all kind of looks the same though, so if you're unfamiliar with Mexican food, you might not know what to order. The free chips and salsa are great. I love that their salsa isn't the chunky kind. They will sing happy birthday to you with a sombrero on your head and give you a free ice cream sundae. They also have live music occasionally, like on Mother's Day. The mural on the wall was really neat! I definitely prefer this to Paradiso. The servers are all friendly and will like you even more if you order in Spanish.
(4)Chris M.
Im giving a 5 star rating because this is Minot, ND. As a Texas native, I found this restaurant to acceptable. It met all my cravings for mexican food. Order the habeñero salsa and mix in however much you need into the regular salsa to make it spicy enough. The rice and beans were good, the chicken chimichanga was actually very good, and their queso blanco was great.
(5)Lindsey S.
Been here a couple times in last two years and it just seems to be getting worse. The chicken and meat is different. The taste is off and everything is just slopped together... it makes me cringe thinking about it. That is the last chance I'm giving this place. The salsa isn't tasteful or spicy either. The last time I went I paid with my card and left a cash tip but seems they put in an extra 5 dollars for tip when the charge came out on my card! I always tip good too! 2 thumbs down! Margaritas are good tho!
(2)Elle L.
I like this place so much I had to go twice during my visit to Minot! It's situated in a small strip mall near Wal-Mart, just off of 83. I was surprised at how friendly the staff is there. Their chips and salsa were really great so I was excited to try the chimi. It was muy delicioso! My friend had the Speedy Gonzales, which I think is a chicken taco and cheese enchilada with rice and beans. They also have an assortment of Mexican sodas. I'm a fan!
(5)Ben B.
This is the worse mexican I've eaten in my life. They don't even have real salsa. Don't waste your time and money here.
(1)Dane W.
Service was prompt and attentive. Taco salad was more than half shredded chicken and delicious. I will be returning here again to try more offerings.
(5)Cady J.
The service was wonderful, and everything reasonably priced, but the food was almost ok. Being from Texas, I may be spoiled by Texmex but the sauce they would use on the enchiladas tasted like tomato sauce. It was very bland and if they were to alter that it would make the biggest difference. The tamales were good, and the same to their burritos. But I would not call it "Authentic Mexican Food".
(3)Scott C.
Best MR in Minot. Considering food quality / taste / presentation, atmosphere, service, cost. No other MR in Minot comes close. My background: I've Travelled all the states, a little in Mexico and in Canada. I've eaten at Mexican restaurants all over this continent. I can't give Mi Mexico 5 stars, but I can happily give it 4. I live 70 miles to the west, so I can't eat here as often as I'd like. But I consider myself a regular customer, having eaten here seven or eight times already since October. I think that would make me a regular customer. The fact that I have returned here so many times already should tell you that it's good food at a good price with good service and good atmosphere. Today I questioned the cheese sauce that was listed as part of my taco salad I was considering ordering. And she told me it was actually homemade here at the restaurant, NOT out of a can. So I want ahead and ordered it. As I was enjoying my beer, the taco salad arrived and I have to be honest.... The presentation could have used some work. But when I started to devour this Taco Salad (with the amphitheater style crispy flour tortilla), I found the shredded chicken concoction with fresh lettuce, tomato, asiago cheese, and sour cream to be extremely extremely tasty. I can tell when food contains MSG. This had none. It was just very well seasoned not too salty not too spicy but enough to satisfy my taste which normally is more on the spicy side. The waitstaff was perfect. They came plenty often but not too often to bug me. The check out I believe may have been the owners wife or the owner. She's extremely nice person. WISH I LIVED CLOSER!!! Thank you, owners of Mi Mexico, for being here in ND!
