Excellent food. Very fresh. Large portions. Great Service! Hidden gem in Mandan! By far the best Chinese in Bismarck/ Mandan. Highly recommend eating at the Rice Bowl!

As a Chinese person I cannot recommend this restaurant. Chow mein should never be crispy bits of garnish under stir fry that didn't not have enough heat. Service is friendly and atmosphere is clean.

This is a restaurant in dire need of Robert Irvine's Restaurant Impossible (see the foodnetwork.com ). 1. I had Kung Pao Chicken and it was the worst I have experienced anyplace in the world. Mostly celery, no charred red pepper. I requested extra spicy and it was very bland. Tasteless sauce that I suspect is the base for many of their dishes (including the one my friend ordered). 2. The interior is in serious need of at a minimum a through cleaning! 3. When I paid the bill I mentioned to the woman at the cash register the disappointment in the Kung Pao Chicken and received a hostile reaction. I asked to speak to the manager and the person replied that she is the owner. Whoa!!! The Rice Bowl will never see me again!!

Excellent flavor, big portions and great service - the dining trifecta! I had fried rice and General Tso chicken and it was very good. We had egg rolls for an appetizer and they were awesome. Knowing how big the portions are now, my wife and I will most likely share a meal so we have room for the egg rolls.

Well, after driving all the way to Mandan and climbing two flights of stairs I was rudely denied service since I showed up right at closing. I will NEVER try this place again. Nothing angers me more than rude people!

This place has some of the best Chinese food in Bismarck/Mandan. The service is awesome, and I haven't found anything on the menu that's not up to par. If there is a downside to the place it's location. You have to go up a couple flights of stairs and pass by the venting of the bathrooms which doesn't make for a pleasing smell as you go up to eat or after you have eaten and are leaving. All in all this place is very good.

Great food. I've only been here once, but everything that I tasted was amazing. Pretty sure the egg rolls were handmade...they were heavenly... The service was very good as well.

No frills Chinese. Decent food and even though the location is a little awkward, it is surprisingly pleasant. Great place to stop by for lunch if you are in Mandan and the prices for their lunch specials are hard to beat.

Above a library - Chinese! Who knew. Finding this place was interesting, there is some signage, but much larger is the "Public Library" signage on the same building. Anyway, you drive around back to the large parking lot to find the entrance to this Chinese restaurant. Some of the parking is even marked "For Rice Bowl Chinese patrons only". Guess its a busy library. Judging by the crowds, its also a busy Chinese restaurant. Once inside you can take the stairs (which need a serious washing/scrubbing), or the elevator, which I did not take, but was working when I was there. At the entrance someone seats you, in my case a very cute girl of perhaps 10 years old. But she was on top of it all. Kudos, she will go far if she keeps this up. The menu was large, and not the "typical Chinese"' I am used to seeing, so that was interesting. Some new options. I had some dumplings, they were good. Then I had something called paper chicken. I had asked the waitress what that was, and she described it to me, but what came did not seem like what she had indicated. I ate one, they are very hard to open and eat actually, and did not eat the rest. While I did not ask for it to be removed from the tab, I would have expected it to be, but it was not. Fine, I ordered and had the option to eat. But still. It really was inedible. Then, upon cashing out, again the +-10 year old, making change like a champ. Overall, this is fine Chinese, perhaps a little salty, and if I were you, order what you know to be safe.

I had the shrimp in dark sauce and also had the general tsao chicken. The chicken had big meaty pieces. Also had the hot and sour soup, it was a little bit more sour than i have had before. It was really good had some for dinner and leftovers for breakfast. Tasted like fresh veggies, really nice and crunchy. The waitress was really nice. The restaurant is located on the second floor. Recommend this place if you like Chinese food.

I have been going to this restaurant since it opened when I was in 2nd grade. It is excellent. If I had to choose a "last meal" it would be their wonton soup and egg rolls. The family that runs the place is fantastic, they know authentic Chinese food, and I have never ever left disappointed. I don't live in Mandan anymore, but whenever I'm home, a visit to The Rice Bowl is a must.

I agree with other reviews. This place is definitely a gem. I used to live in Mandan and I was here a lot! Frankie also knew who I was when he heard my order. I love their meatless fried rice and they even have sweet and sour vegetable. YUM! Their lunch menu is pretty cheap and the service is really fast! Highly recommended.

I would go out on a limb here and say that the Rice Bowl is the best Chinese in Bismarck/Mandan. Tucked into the old depot/library building, this place is a little gem. I order the same thing here every single time I go, and it tastes the same after over a decade. The house chicken is fantastic. My tolerance for spice is considerable, so I don't recommend it for those with delicate taste buds. Most of their lunch specials are under $5 (!!!) and come with soup! An incredible deal! They're fast and friendly and a great place to go for a quick and inexpensive lunch.

I couldn't agree with Chantel and Danielle more. The Rice Bowl is by far my favorite Chinese restaurant in Bismarck/Mandan. The owners, Franky and Cherry, know many of their customers by name. No matter who waits on us, we always get friendly and prompt service. I've tried many things on the menu, but my favorite is the sweet and sour shrimp. I highly recommend it! They have dine-in, take-out, and delivery.

Best Chinese in all of Bismarck-Mandan! Definitely worth the drive across the river if you are in Bismarck. The food is always fresh and hot and delicious. Service is always prompt and friendly. Delivery is fast. When they make a mistake on your order - which is rare - they are quick to make it right or offer compensation.

This place is excellent! Mandan is lucky to have a top 100 U.S. Chinese restaurant...the egg rolls are phenomenal! A little more attention to atmosphere could enhance the dining experience though and make this a true diamond in the rough...

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
