I can't seem to settle on exactly what I think about this place. This location is such an important cross-street in Fargo, that I wish it would be mind-blowing. Instead, this is a place that pretty much offers decent Italian food for a decent price. I've had a boatload of dishes here, from the decidedly non-Italian (the thai-inspired flatbread), to the fairly authentic (Cioppino). Each time I was confronted with a lot of things going right--usually having to do with spices and flavors--and a few things that are just a little off. If it can have garlic in it, it will have it in spades, and not in the way that I got used to in Italy. The food is imbued with a ton of garlic, cream wherever possible, and a lot of oil. That means that you'll likely love the first few bites, will fill up, and then will feel uncomfortable by the end of the meal. I would love to see them pare down a bit with the menu, so that customers can take a bit more of a tour with their dinner. I know that this is Fargo, but they could take a cue from the many restaurants like the HoDo lounge and Mezzaluna. The days of going to a place only on a special occasion, and then expecting to blow out your stomach are coming to a close. Give people a reason to come more often, and specialize in dishes that you can actually live on. When I was in Tuscany, these restaurants were all over the place, and I would see the entire gamut of people sharing plates of pasta, meats, antipasto, and vegetables. Simplify, lighten up, and make this corner the most frequented in town. Or just go here when you want to have a large Italian-ish meal and a glass (or three) of wine.

Went for dinner and it was delicious! And the service was excellent! The Cesar salad dressing was yummy! The oil that comes with the bread is AMAZING!

Friendly and courteous staff. The restaurant appears to be a little cramped but has lovely interior decor. I enjoyed the food but I think the menu is overpriced given their serving portions.

We ate there tonight we had made reservations for 7,we were a little late(train) we then proceeded to wait to be seated for another 25 minutes. Our food was pretty good ordered the elk and husband ordered the steak medallions, our daughter ordered the tagliolini. All the meals were very flavorful but I wasn't expecting fries with my elk. Meals were cooked perfectly. My husband wasn't impressed with the presentation.I would have given 5 stars if service hasn't been slow and our wait long even with us making reservations. It was nice overall. We felt it was over priced,So if you have money to splurge you could give it a try. I don't think it's kid friendly or at least I wouldn't recommend bringing children.

I'm walking down the street, and facing you on the corner, it's right there. That's how that decision was made for dinner. We just beat the downpour. Right across the street was the classic car show, so plenty of ambiance out the window. I'm not a big tortellini fan, but I knew this wasn't the usual spaghetti type Italian. So because it offered meat sauce and lots of cheese I go with it. Let me tell you, this is not your eyeball sized tortellini. These were huge, and delicious. Not sure of the color because it's dark in there. We shared a bowl of lobster bisque as a starter. It's loaded with shrimp. It's what a bisque should be and it's perfect for sharing. Beautiful decor is a given. The price is between Altonys and Hodos. Just right for upscale Italian.

Salad was good, bread was good and we were seated quickly. The sauce my lobster ravioli was covered in was amazing.. but the lobster ravioli itself tasted like dirt. yuck.

My gnocchi pasta was a mess. Served on a dirty plate, ton's of blue cheese??.. Very little if any chicken and the chicken that was was a frozen breast from a food service. I had a few under cocked mushrooms and it was all tossed in a mystery sauce that was a strange color of pink. The gnocchi was over cooked and tasted like paste. I was still charged for my meal even after I told them it was awful. No offer to take it off the bill nor an offer for a complementary desert not even an apology. My Caesar Salad was okay but it too was served on a less than clean plate. The owner who was passing out the salads could not have been less interested in our dinning enjoyment and though she walked passed many times never once asked us how things where. My guests thought it was okay and where polite. I'm not sure I'd go back.

The food and menu at this place are great - and our waiter was excellent. My coworker had a very well prepared steak and I had the chicken saltimbocca (sp). The ambiance here is a little..um, dated? Smelled a little old and musty and the decor needed some work, but I was there to eat and not participate as a interior designer. Still a good place for the romantic and not for the loud and boisterous. Our waiter was great and made excellent choices - I will definitely be back here for groups, but the ambiance is not for a single traveler. I'll definitely be back!

I've enjoyed all of my experiences at Toscana. I am always happy with the quality of the food, and the wine list was adequate (didn't blow me away though). The service has always been great; one server answered honestly that a particular dish wasn't the best when asked. I liked the honesty. I found the decor to be a little kitschy-Italian (plastic topiaries, framed prints of tuscany, etc.) but that can be overlooked when everything else is up to par. I'll definitely go back again.

I was extremely pleased with the restaurant, the service, and the food. Some of the best authentic Italian food I've had. Our waitress was incredibly polite and answered all of our questions. It's definitely a place we would go to again.

Excellent fine-dining spot with good value for the price! We stopped in for a nice dinner during a shopping trip to Fargo (we're Canadian) to celebrate two of our party's birthdays. Great ambiance and high-quality food. The caesar salads were wonderful -- crisp veggies and greens and a delicious, authentic-tasting dressing. The soft, fresh bread came with a balsamic-oil dip. The lobster pasta was perfectly al-dente; the steak was done to order; the chicken breast was tender and juicy. The one in our party who had the osso bucco declared that we had all "made a HUGE mistake" in not ordering the same -- she loved the falling-off-the-bone meat on a generous bed of mashed potatoes. Another note: two of us are gluten-intolerant, and Toscana was a very suitable place to eat because they thicken their sauces by reduction and NOT flour; there are enough good options for gluten-free folks to choose from. (Note: we are not sensitive on the level of a celiac individual, so I don't know how comfortable people who are extremely sensitive to gluten contamination would feel. The staff was very understanding of our needs, however.)

I wish I remembered our exact experience here, but it's been some time now and all I can remember is that we really liked eating here while we were passing thru town.

OH MY GOSH. So, so good. Friendly service, extensive wine list, and delicious, very generously portioned food. I had the gnocchi and it was delectable. If you're in town on business, go here the FIRST night so you'll have a prayer of eating your leftovers before you have to get on a plane!

I was very surprised to find an Italian restaurant of this quality in Fargo, ND. How does a chef from Italy choose Fargo? Who knows, who cares, I spend about 10 days here every year and I am grateful the chef found his way here. I usually go for the Ribeye Fiorentina style and the chef has no problem subbing the ribeye for the normal T-bone on this dish. I also love the Osso bucco. I could make meals from the appetizers alone, Guazzetto, Calamari, Frittelle del Mare & the Octopus are all amazing. The wine list is very good, if a little expensive (for the reserve wines) but I get why that is so. Overall, this is an excellent choice in Fargo and would stand up in a lot of cities across the country.

Let me put it this way, where else in the Fargo area can you get a filet mignon steak stuffed with lobster and served on a bed of shrimp? My first evening dinner experience was truly a delight. Much more expensive ($15-25) but worth it for the quality of the food and service. As a bonus, the ambiance only gets better when the lights get dimmer. All the sauces are gluten free so that makes most everything on the menu accessible sans pasta. The staff was very helpful regarding a gluten free diet.

One of the best Italian restaurants in town - but the only place in Fargo where reservations are required (closing hours come early). Service over the past few years has been poor due to not enough waitstaff to cover the often full restaurant. But if your in a patient mood & craving flavorful pasta - it's the only place to go! Order the Tortellini Alla Vodka, enjoy the wine, & dipping sauce for the bread.

The place is located in downtown Fargo. Nice part of town. I ordered the sauteed pork loin stuffed with fresh apples over a champagne infused tarragon demi glaze. it was excellent. side salad was large and the bread was warm. The inside of the place was comfortable an nice looking. not to dark and not to bright. would have given it 5 stars but my tea glass was empty for several minutes. other than will try to head back next week.

Every time my wife and I come to Fargo we make an effort to stop at Toscana. We have never ordered the same thing twice, and have never been anything less than amazed by how good the food is. My personal favorite is the lamb with roasted red peppers and goat cheese.

This place has good word of mouth, but can't back it up. The food was just not very good. Don't get your hopes up for excellent Italian food before coming here.

Just okay. The dish I ordered was very salty and the prices are higher than they should be. At night the lighting is extremely dim. It's almost too dark to read the menu! I realize they're trying to create atmosphere but the decor is pretty cheesy.

My wife and I are always in the mood for some good Italian food, and this place is definitely one of Fargo's best! We were running errands around town on a Saturday, and decided to treat ourselves, so we decided to make the trip to downtown Fargo (traffic and parking are still an issue, and probably always will be). The maître d was friendly and sat us down right away, but despite the fact that we were the only people in the restaurant (they had just opened) it took our waiter nearly ten minutes to come to our table; not the greatest sign in the world. He brought us some bread and olive oil for the table, and then we placed our order. We started off with the Mussels, which were sautéed in a garlic, tomato-basil wine broth. My wife is a self-proclaimed aficionado when it comes to mussels, and she said that these were some of the best that she's ever had; I would have to agree. For the main entrees, my wife had the Pork Loin Alla Mela, and I tried the Coquille/Coquielle. Both were delicious, and I would highly recommend either one! For dessert, we shared a Tiramisu. Nothing fancy here; just a good, solid Italian dessert choice. Overall, we really liked this place, but our waiter definitely blew it; I hope he gets better at his job. Despite this, we will definitely be back!

Oh! When it comes to great Italian food in Fargo, it doesn't get any better than Toscana! This is truly the place to go! Toscana is located in the heart of downtown, but you wouldn't know it by the intimacy and peaceful atmosphere. The chefs and service staff have done a great job at bringing a quality romantic Italian restaurant to Fargo. The front of the house staff is very professional and knowledgable about the menu -- both the food and the wine. That's important, because let's face it, when eating pasta one must pair it with the appropriate wine; and they have plenty of varietals to chose. Getting to the food . . . the pasta is delicious! I'm not sure what all happens in the kitchen, but it tastes handmade! Soft, delicate, and full of flavor. Their sauces and meats are also very tasty and robust. I have only been there twice, so I don't know about all of the menu options, but you must try the tortellini al forno. Super good! The atmosphere is fancy, but doesn't require fancy clothes each night. Weekend nights at a place like this automatically make you want to wear a nice shirt and pants; but weeknights you can get away with nice jeans or shorts. If you're looking for a restaurant to celebrate that special night or just somewhere with great Italian food, look no further than Toscana! You won't regret it.

Let down! Tired and uninspired. I was led to believe this was a high end restaurant. It may have been at one time but no longer. This is an eatery that is on the decline. You have been warned.

Came here for our anniversary. THE BEST FOOD! The best sea bass ever. Wonderful everything. We will become regulars.

Unimpressed with the food and service. The waitress was moody and uninterested. I struggled to eat the food. My salmon was bitter tasting and the sauce was very basic. The salad looked like it came out of a bag. The dressing was definitely store bought, not fresh made. I expected better.

Went to Toscana after seeing lots of positive reviews on a Yelp. On a Monday night, my date and I were seated right away, which was nice. Our server brought us the menus, and asked us if we would like anything other than water to drink. When we said we would be fine without any additional beverages/wine, she instantly lost all interest in us; the upscale on the alcohol was her only interest. The bread portions with the oil were meager at best - 4 tiny slices for 2 people. We ordered escargot for an appetizer, and the Tagliolini to split for an entree. The snails came out of the shell already (bummer), and without bread to eat them on, which is how it is traditionally served. The Taglioni was decent, but nothing special. The spinach was over-cooked and floppy, the sauce was too oily, but the seafood in it was excellent. Overall, pretty tasty food, but the service is what really hurt the overall experience. For the price, I'm not sure if I'll be dining here again.

In Fargo on business & wanted to see check this place out (thanks to Yelp) & I am glad I did. Firstly, I had no idea how cool downtown Fargo is! I was surpised, to be honest. There seems to be many cool places to eat, but I chose this one because of the location, price and variety. It is darker inside than I expected, which makes it quaint. The decor doesn't seem professional, but I am critical in that area! Kinda feels residential, but that is probably what they were going for. Kinda bummed right away that they serve Pepsi products instead of Coke, but that is a 50/50 chance that I am used to! It wasn't busy when I arrived & felt that the service was on the slow side. The server was nice, but when she brought my bread, she set the basket in the furthest corner of the table. I thought this was weird since I was dining by myself. Anyway, I ordered one of the evening's specials. It had lobster, shrimp & scallops with mushrooms & asparagus. It was very flavorful, but not didn't look too exciting. With the exception of the small amounts of asparagus, everything was very light in color & on a whote plate. The presentation wasn't all that flattering. It was very good, though. I would return, but I think I would check out other hot spots first.

Went for dinner and it was delicious! And the service was excellent! The Cesar salad dressing was yummy! There was too much on the salad for my liking but I should have asked for less dressing. The oil that comes with the bread is AMAZING! I had a special with asparagus, mushrooms, tomatoes and seafood. The dish came in a puff pastry. It was outstanding! I probably should have gotten rice to soak up the amazing sauce. Next time I will!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
