Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

If you are looking for a big portion cheesy heavy duty Tex-mex, Mexican Village might be your place. Most dishes are priced a couple of dollars more than most other mexican restaurants but dishes are seasoned well. Portion is huge. I didn't try it but I was told that burrito with fundido (cheese) sauce is popular here. If you can handle it, try it. Just need to double the workout later .. Complimentary chips come with individual bowl of salsa so you don't have to share or worry about double dipping. PS: Half priced appetizer and drink specials during happy hour 4-6pm weekdays

This is not Mexican food ! The salsa with the chips is nasty, the ground beef in my taco was overcooked, the rice had the cheese melted on it and formed chunks. The flavor of the taco was salty and unpleasant. The service was very slow, it took 20 minutes to get a drink and they weren't that busy. They should apologize to Mexican restaurants everywhere.

Bagged chips of salsa probably from dollar tree and tomato puree for salsa. I would recommend taco bell rather than this junk. Deserves half a star... No... Maybe quarter

This has to be the worst Mexican food I've ever had. As in I would rather eat Taco Bell than dine here. If you want real Authentic Mexican go to Acapulco's! Seriously Fargo there should never be a "gravy" on your burrito. Green chile sauce yes, red chile sauce yes, even mole yes. Just say no to gravy!

Tortillas were stuck together. Had no green peppers with fajita it was all onions. Beans and rice were old and crunchy. Terrible. Server was pleasant but that's about it. Not recommended.

Wow. I should have read the reviews. I know that a lot of times people only write reviews when they have a bad experience. I do not. The hotel recommended that I try this place. It's a big place, nice bar area. That's where the good ends. The chips and salsa we awful. I had chicken fajitas. How can you screw that up? The "sizzling" plate was luke warm. It contained a small rubbery chicken breast, and about 3 ounces of undercooked onions and peppers. The plate of beans and rice had been under a heat lamp for an eternity, evidenced by the somewhat sticking to my plate. I would not have even given this place a 1 star rating.

This is the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten at!! I ordered the Lunch Combo, my husband ordered the enchilada, and I ordered chile relleno. My rice was burned beyond recognition, the chile relleno (I can come and show you how to make chile relleno -) was a couple of pieces of green pepper surrounded by some sort of uncooked tortilla. Swimming on the so called "gravy" - The only thing I enjoyed was the pint of Fargo beer. This is not Tex-Mex, South of the Border Mexican, or nothing related to Mexico. Taco Bell is better than Mexican Village. The poor waiter was embarrassed when I complaint about the nasty dish. Those 4 stars are either fake or the people were drunk on margaritas and the food tasted like heaven.

Mediocre Mexican food, and over priced. I ordered the fajita burrito $12.95 and it was at least 1/3 refried beans... So if you don't want a refried bean burrito it is a good idea to request no beans. On a positive note 2 of our kids ate free and the environment was kid friendly, and causal. Great place to order a margarita!

Love, love, love eating at the 45th street Mexican Village. Our family had yet another wonderful meal here and our server, Joseph was awesome. He deserved the 20+% tip we left him. The only issue I had was the kids that were let loose to run around the restaurant while their parents drank beer and ignored them. Luckily for us the manager had no problem letting them know that other patrons did not appreciate it.

My boyfriend and I went to this place last night and as soon as we were seated I wanted to leave. The chips were bought from the store, the salsa was a soup of blended tomatoes and cumin. It was awful. Our margaritas came, and it gets worse. I've never had such an awful margarita in my life. There was water in the bottom of our classes, and the actual "margarita mix" tasted like salty water. We tried to leave, but our food was already being made. When it came out, I was just simply infuriated. My chimichanga was covered in this sticky red sauce they called a "gravy" and it was absolutely inedible. William ate his taco, but sadly had had better made at home. So it is safe to say we are never going back. We actually went to Sonic before we came home because I was starving, since you know we didn't eat anything really.

Simple way to put it, there are better Mexican restaurants in Fargo. The food was mediocre.

This venue does not deserve a star but Yelp is forcing me to give one. Most employees are either unfriendly or say "Hi" (and, nothing or little more) only because they're obligated. Most will perform bare minimal service, at best. There's no atmosphere, let alone a Mecican theme. I've seen menus filled with drief salsa stains and dirty forks rolled in napkins; also, menus thrown into the hosts' desk any old way. Further, isn't it common sense that forks, knives and spoons should all be rolled into the napkins left on the table, rather than served separately by the wait staff?! This is a needlessly inefficient way of serving. Food is overpriced and mediocre. I have only gone here because friends wanted to, but I will never go back. The last time I was there, I saw a little girl throw up, right after eating, in a mop bucket a host was using!

We ate here on Sunday evening at 5PM. I should have left when I noticed only 6-8 tables at this prime time and now I know why. The chips are the basic round over salted chips you buy in a store. The salsa is runny like tomato soup. I ordered the enchilada combo. The rice and beans looked and tasted burnt. The enchies tasted good but they melted cheese over the whole plate. I had to peel back melted cheese off my rice just to find it was burnt and dry. I did not even remove the melted cheese off my beans since I could see they were burnt. Even the cheese enchilada was drenched in cheese. My boy ordered two tacos off the kids menu and only ate one. The soft shell taco wrap was hard and the ground beef was too salty to eat. He did like the fries. When we asked the server for taco sauce she replied "we do not have any." Really? No taco sauce? I wanted to like the food and have something to take home but we choose not to get a go box. This place won't be here long unless the owner makes some serious changes

Server was pleasant enough, but took 20 minutes for a table when there were a number of tables available. Time to place and receive order was too long. Asked for bill twice before we got it. What used to be a local favorite has really gone down hill.

Party of 15 went in, and we were told it would be a two hour wait, fine, but then to turn around and say well maybe you should go some place else is unacceptable!!!!

Their food is salty and bland. If you like Americanized Mexican food with no flavor it would be good for you. Service has been hit or miss. My daughter ordered a grilled cheese from the kids menu and got two slices of dry bread w a slab of American cheese. Don't put it on the menu if you can't make a basic grilled cheese. Don't get why people go here.

The setting is nice and the service was good for our visit! But. The food was undesirable. I didn't hate my food, it just wasn't very good. As others stated very salty to cover up the lack of flavor. If the food was changed it would've been a great experience and would've come back for more.

Blah. I really don't enjoy anything about this place, but always seem to get pulled here for a free birthday meal for someone I know a few times a year or so. The food really isn't anything special- very similar to all the other texmex places around town. The margaritas aren't even special. They taste like you are drinking straight sour mix. The portions are huge & prices are reasonable, so if you like to gorge yourself with giant portions of mediocre-at-best Mexican food, you may enjoy this place. I've never had an unpleasant encounter with staff, but what really makes me dislike this place is the cleanliness. On my last visit, there was a hair in my food I noticed immediately after my plate was set in front of me. My fork had a piece of dried food on it. They were nice enough to remove this from my bill, but doesn't bode well for the appetite after that experience.

Went to the south Mexican Village over lunch on a Tuesday right after Memorial Day. Last time I was there was last July for evening, and then a few times a year before that for work lunch. In the last year their lunch menu portions have significantly gotten smaller. The Poco Loco (two flat flour tortillas filled with basically nothing more than seasoned ground beef, covered in brown sauce) used to fill nearly the entire width of the plate (~12") and now are closer to the ~8" size tortillas with less beef (yes, the lunch serving has had the large size before). The price has remained the same however. What amazed us however was that the place was nearly vacant! I used to be a line, even a year or two ago, for any weekday lunch. Now, there were only a handful of customers inside when we got there and when we left (12-1 pm). Likewise, we were surprised to find that they no longer have their (possibly local made?) lighter colored triangular chips they have had for years, rather now they are apparently using premade round thick dense yellow chips that are very salty and not as fresh, clearly from a bag. Another reviewer commented on not liking the salsa. I guess that is the one thing I have always liked -- it's very thin and somewhat watery, not chunky, and medium seasoned. It's not like a good fresh salsa or pico from an authentic place (or even Moe's!), but definitely better than the chunky thick/dry stuff out of a glass jar from the grocery store. Too bad the change in chips makes that less desirable to sit and munch on the chips and salsa. To their credit (possibly or probably not?) we got our food within 5 minutes of ordering. However, at the same time one has to wonder how that was possible. Yes, no one was in there, but I suspect given the torched, stuck to the plate nature of spilled ground beef on the side of the plate, it was pre-made sitting under a heat lamp waiting for us :( Oppositely, we were dismayed at arriving, having another couple in front of us and stood 2 mins for someone to greet them to take them out to the patio. Then, we stood there ANOTHER 3 minutes for them to come back to seat us. Again there was no one else in the entry way waiting. A couple more minutes and we would have left and gone north to Paradiso instead, which is what we likely will do in a couple months when it's birthday time for the free meal deal that both places offer.

I like my Tex-mex on the spicier side, this is definitely on the blander side. This is not Mexican food in my opinion this is tex-mex. It is way better then Paradiso but I don't think that is saying a whole lot in their defense.

A disappointment, its too bad the GPS took me here and I was too tired to fight it and go to the downtown location. This is generic tex mex place, i sat at the bar.. the salsa is terrible, I ordered the spicy salsa and queso dip, both pretty tasteless. They have a fiesta pasta which I was excited about, turned out worse than what I make at home, and i am no chef.. overall a waste of calories but a decent variety and would be nice to hang out with few friends, so it gets 3 start.. for fargo it does ok.

This place has a fairly good selection of Mexican food. One big plus is that they serve mountain dew. I had the chimichanga with chicken, and it was tasty. Truthfully, the flavor could be a bit spicier, but then again, this is Fargo. People here like bland food... but maybe not this bland. The rice and beans were good, but could have been more spicy. All in all, it was good. Plenty of seating, nice ambiance, and the food was filling and reasonably priced.

I think the absolute worst Mexican food I've ever tried to eat was at the Mexican Village in Grand Forks. A friend from Fargo said we have to try the Mexican Village there because it's excellent. It's crap just like the one in Grand Forks. It's very bland and tastes like it came out of a TV dinner. I went to college with a guy from the west coast of Mexico and he taught me how to cook the real stuff. The best Mexican restaurant I've ever been to is in north Phoenix. People in North Dakota and Minnesota don't have a clue about what Mexican food should taste like. Perhaps the best they've ever had came out of a can, box, or packet. If you like bland crap... this is the place for you!
