We were pleasantly surprised with the food quality. The pork with verde sauce was great and so were the chips and salsa. The margarita was from a mix. My husband thought it was good considering it was not fresh. I thought it tasted like total garbage but I think that of every mix margarita so I ordered a tequila and soda. We sat at the bar and the bartender said he doesn't drink when I asked for a tequila recommendation. Annoying but at least he was honest.

The food is mediocre portions are kinda small especially for a Mexican restaurant. The servers always seem to forget straws and refills.

I've eaten "authentic" Mexican food in SoCal, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, and even Mexico. To be honest, I have no idea what the hell "authentic" even means. But I know what I like. And the food here is simply outstanding. Dined here with three other folks on a Sunday afternoon. The chile verde was among the best I've ever eaten. The burritos and quesadillas also looked great! Lots of choices on the menu, there's something for everyone here. The service was also solid...the best part was my Dad trying out his mangled Spanglish on the waiter. Good times! This is as good as it gets in Bismarck, you've gotta try it out.

I came here for lunch today as it caught my attention as I passed by to get to somewhere else so I said why not give it a try. So to start with, the parking lot is a somewhat riddled with potholes so apologize to the shocks in your car if you park there. Luckily my pick up truck didn't mind but just as an FYI. My first impression entering was that it was a small spot, but they have a ton of small booths. I sat at the bar and I liked their set up there. My waiter was very attentive the entire time, and it was during a business lunch rush. He even rescued a toddler that got separated from her family when they were walking to their table and started crying, it was very sweet for him to do because you could tell her was uncomfortable lifting her up and taking her to them. I did notice that they have their salsa pre-poured in the serving bowls ready to provide to people. I am not sure how I feel about that but it tasted fine and the chips were actually pretty fresh...several hours later and I am still feeling OK so I won't complain. I opted for one of their lunch specials, the shrimp fajita plate with corn tortillas. It was a HUGE serving for $9.95, I lost count of all the shrimp that I had on my plate. I really liked that they broiled or torched the dish before they sent it out so the cheese got a litltle crispy and the veggies had a nice smoked flavor. The rice was not hard or crusty and I liked that they also included sour cream and guacamole. The corn tortillas were pretty run of the mill but still good. I have spent the past 4 years living in southern California, which is supposed to be some sort of mecca for Mexican food (and really it is hit or miss like anywhere else you go, they just mostly have good tacos). I don't think that where you are located really dictates too much of how good the food can be that is what a good chef is there for. I was very happy with what I got for lunch and thought it was yummy, so I would recommend it.

Everything you expect from a small mexican restaurant. Nothing over the top but just what you expect. Well cooked food, friendly service, clean restaurant. We got our food to go and didn't have to wait long. The meat was seasoned well and the chips were hot. All in all we would visit this place again if in the area as they didn't really do anything bad.

This place was packed and we still received fast, friendly service. The food is tasty and the menu is straightforward.

I'll give a star for the food which might have been good if it was served warm. We were given a waiter who clearly was "done" with his shift, and possibly drunk. Then sat in the "family" section. Were literally surrounded on all sides by crying toddlers. I spent the entire meal with kids kicking the back of my chair, and completely disconnected parents. This is at 8:45 on Sunday night; why are kids even awake at that hour? Our sever got a clue about 5 minutes before dropping the check. We had very high hopes and expectations given the positive reviews, and with a different server, eating around adults who knows? But, this is not an experiment I'll be repeating again any time soon. Really bad, and it shouldn't have been.

Without a doubt the best Mexican food in Bismarck. Cozy little restaurant with kind and courteous staff. Food comes out fast and fresh every time. Guacamole is delicious and the burritos are enormous, easily enough for my fiancé and I to share. Prices are also incredible for the food you get. My only complaint? Parking is kinda stupid.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Finally...FABULOUS Authentic Mexican food in Bismarck!!! We've spent years south of the border, and always miss the flavors when we return home to North Dakota. It's difficult to find full flavored ingredients here but somehow they did it! We asked for salsa with more heat and received a great smokey chipotle salsa...homemade and VERY flavorful. Had dinner tonight...wonder if tomorrow is too soon to return?! . Bienvenidos a Bismarck La Carreta!

This.place.is .delicious! I love that they have a vegetarian section of their menu. It's as close as we are going to get to an authentic mexican restaurant in Bismarck. I have had no issues with the staff which is a plus for me because I feel like good services goes hand in hand with good food. Their guacamole is what really got me. It's so fresh and creamy. The food itself is so delicious and flavorful. I haven't tried any alcpholic drinks (been pregnant each time we've tried it) but my husband likes their tap beers. I think the price is super resonable for such delicious food.

The wait staff still needs some work and the food is still average. Food comes out where quicker than the staff waiting on you. Great Mexican beer.

Their salsa tastes like it comes out of a jar and I was not impressed by the food. If you want mixed Mexican drinks with quasi-Mexican food come here if you want great Mexican food go elsewhere. Service was very friendly but they are too busy and seem to be having trouble keeping up.

Finally a decent mexican restaurant in Bismarck! The food was really good (compared to the selection in the area). As ex Texans my husband and I gauge a mexi restaurant by the rice in beans and the chips and salsa. The rice had unnecessary veggies in them but was pretty good. The beans were REALLY flavorful. Stingy on the tortillas with my Fajitas but was pleasantly surprised when I wasn't charged extra tortillas. Great flavor on the fajitas, the chicken was in small pieces but was ALL WHITE meat and was very very juicy. However, there were some very odd moments. Our server seemed too busy and frantic every time he stopped by, yet three other servers lounged at the bar staring at us eat.....it was very very odd. They apparently ran out of chips (I know! ) and a server told us it would take him 30 minutes to get some.....ummmmm 30 minutes to tear corn tortillas and throw them in the fryer....really?!? But when another customer asked (30 min later) he had the same spiel....apparently we need to tell him "yes, please go make the chips, I understand it takes 30 minutes and I probably won't need them then, but the future customers will thank me" Other than some oddities with the service staff the chicken fajitas were phenomenal!! Will try it again, hopefully to try the chips and salsa (although sources have told me its crappy jarred) Read your receipts (they do not have itemized print outs, they look like accountant tape) just to double check, we were charged for water but the server apologized and fixed it.

RELLENOS. I repeat, their are good rellenos in Bismarck, ND! The way they cooked them was interesting! I had the Guac Salad, and boy, was it good. If we wernt in a hurry I would have ordered some dessert. Oh well, twist my leg and all go back, LOL. Only con was chips were .95 a basket after the first free one. I disagree about David T.'s review, the salsa was rich and did not taste like a jarred salsa. We were their with a Line out the door, and the food service and drinks were prompt, and the ordering was a little delayed, But due to us not knowing what we wanted, it was fine.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
