Chop's is not your normal deli. They have some of the most unique sandwich, soup and salad creations I've ever seen in a deli. They use all Boar's Head products, so it's slightly pricey but so worth it. They also use bread from local bakery Sweet and Savory. Chop's has only been open for about two years but it's really taken Wilmington by storm. They've even opened a second location in the Monkey Junction area (in the same plaza as Walmart). The chicken salad is great, and the "Sloppy Chops" are always a hit. They post their daily specials on Facebook each day facebook.com/pages/Chops…

Excellent place for a quick lunch, staff is helpful and accommodating. Love the food: quality ingredients make for tasty sandwiches.
(5)Jeff S.
Excellent! We were in town for vacation and to see the USS North Carolina. Found Chop's Deli on Yelp and was not disappointed. We got the Jackson, the Bordeaux, and two 3x Grilled Cheese sandwiches for the kids. Thumbs up for everything! Highly recommended! Will return the next time we are in the area.
(5)Aluanna F.
You cant beat the food in this place!! Amazing sandwiches and great service! I love the fact that its always fresh and consistent! So many good choices! This place should put Wilmington on the map! So tasty, this has become my regular!
(5)Darlene W.
I have been here twice this year! Excellent food! Definitely a great choice for hearty sandwiches and also vegetarian options!
(5)Alexis B.
Super fresh!!! Amazing sandwich with nice people to deal it out. Try the lemonade it's really delicious.
(5)Greg G.
The sandwiches here are fantastic. The use high quality Boars Head meats and really pack it on. The bacon and jalapeño mac n cheese is phenomenal and you have to try the fresh squeezed lemonade and orangeade. Great service as well.
(5)Karen K.
I had the Tripoli. It was righteous. I'm sure any other sandwich would have been awesome too. Also loved their sustainable takeout boxes.
(5)B D.
Delicious! And a pretty good value too. The Wilmington Sandwich (pulled bbq pork and soleslaw) was delicious. The Roast Beef sandwich was decent, they use Boar's Head meat. The sandwiches come with chips as well, making it a good buy for the price. Outdoor seating is nice, and the staff seemed authentically friendly.

When I go to a deli and want to be impressed, I need variety in the menu. If the ingredients in the sandwich are something I could whip up on my own by swinging by the grocery, then the restaurant does nothing to distinguish itself. Chop's delivers. The perfectly pressed panini bread to the outrageous fresh produce made for a great sandwich. I know we put a man on the moon so I shouldn't be that surprised to get such fresh tomatoes on my sandwich in early Spring, but come on! The tomatoes were bright red and juicy. The lettuce was crisp, and the always dependable Boars Head meat makes for quite the array of flavor. I ordered the Monaco and the tomato pesto mayo spread on the sandwich was unreal. This was the silent assassin that put this sandwich over the top. I never thought I would get this worked up and emotional over a stinkin' chicken sandwich, but Chop's has done it to me. Next time I'm in Wilmington, this place will be receiving another pit stop. Lunch can be so boring, but Chop's is anything but that.
(4)Anna W.
They have really good food and customer service there. I will be returning to this place really soon.
(5)Pierre T.
Went tonight for dinner - while there weren't many people (actually almost nobody), it was expected since I feel it would be a lunch place with sandwiches. I had the Monaco and it was really good. Everyone working there was friendly, and while they almost gave me someone else's order they realized their mistake almost as they handed me the wrong order and fixed it!
(4)Dre S.
Great place! Just moved to the area and say the other great reviews and thought I'd check it out. The people, the food, the chill atmosphere all amazing! I got the Plymouth and my mother in law got the Chicago. Both were awesome and had us stopping even few bites just saying "Holy cow this is good!" Even got one to go for my husband at home. Would recommend it to anyone!
(5)Nikki F.
love chops! downtown location is my fave!
(5)Maria L.
Amazing food! Everything is super fresh and you can taste every ingredient in the sandwiches. Try the Monaco. I get mine with out the tomato's but keep the tomato pesto. They opened a new location at Money Junction!
(5)John B.
I can't say enough good things about Chops. Excellent sandwiches and the staff is so friendly. I've never had a bad experience here. I like that they are environmentally concious too (they use plant based, compostable plastics). Do yourself a flavor and go there asap.
(5)Jon L.
Excellent Deli near the Water Front in downtown Wilmington, NC. This place recently opened and what a great find in the Port City. They serve exclusively Boar's Head brand meats and everything is fresh!. You place your order, give them your name and then they call you when it's ready. I had the Ruben which was excellent. Nice sized sandwich comes with a kosher dill and chips. My friends had the Tripoli & the Marseille. All generous portions of meat with fresh fixings and reasonably priced. Nice selection of sides: Chops slaw, potato salad, pasta salad, mac & cheese to name a few. It's a funky little place with surf boards on the wall and Led Zepplin whaling on Whole Lotta Love. My kind of place and a real find, check it out. I would def go back for more! Bring your Jackson's they don't accept credit cards
(4)S C.
I am so so so so so sad to leave this review, but I just paid $30 for a really unsatisfactory meal for my husband and I. My husband got the marseille which is what he always gets. Granted, it's been a few months since we've visited... But this thing was half the size of what he was used to. Hardly any meat on it! Chops is known for its huge sandwiches. Needless to say, that was the first disappointment. He ordered soup... It was cold. Again, something that we love about chops is the delicious soups and macaroni and cheese creations they have. Who wants potato soup that has gotten cold, though? Yuck! My sandwich was good, but when I looked at the pasta salad I noticed that the date on the bottom was from 6 days ago! That's pretty gross. Not to mention that I was only given half of my to-go order and sent on my way. Luckily I checked the bag before I left! I love this place but that was just ridiculous. Don't start slipping, chops! Contemplated between 2 and 3 stars because I know how wonderful this place can be....
(3)Sandra U.
Fast service, good prices. Pulled pork sandwich wasnt dry and very generous helping
(4)M W.
Line is out the door for the business lunch rush....with good reason. Fantastic sandwiches. A little pricey but absolutely worth it.
(5)Lisa P.
This place was wonderful!!! Great location, fresh food, cheerful employees. We had the Jackson and Manhattan, both were excellent! Will be back soon!
(5)John F.
Very good sandwiches, this is a fun place to go. The Plymouth: turkey with cranberry relish and apple was sweet and savory. Homemade lemonade was very good.
(4)Cléa D.
Best sandwiches ever! Chops Deli has some amazing sandwiches that you must try!! Chops Deli is perfectly located in Wilmington downtown but is kind of hard to find since their sign is really tiny. The staff and owner are really nice and they make sure you have a good meal. They have a lot of delicious sandwiches and you get your money's worth. Try the Hamburg and the Chicago because they are great! You also get a pickle and a bag of chips with your sandwich. Whenever I visit Wilmington I will, without a doubt, come and enjoy a sandwich here!
(5)Paula Denise C.
The first time I saw this place, it was completely packed around noon. Went there today when it just about opened and it was already starting to get busy. I had the Monaco which has chicken, pesto, tomatoes, cheese, and greens. I thought the sandwich was pretty good. My friend had the Chicago which had roast beef, onions and whatever else. I don't normally even like roast beef but this sandwich was better than mine. The bread on both were soft. The meats tasted fresh. Also located in downtown, I see why the place has such good reviews and long lines.
(4)Faith F.
Had a grilled cheese the other day. So delicious. They added pesto upon my request. It was as good as it gets.
(5)Ryan D.
I have only been there 3 times but each time i had an amazing sandwich. The only reason i didn't give it 5 is bc bc of price.
(4)Jennifer A.
The best sandwich you'll ever eat. Combinations are amazing I always get the mariseille it's my all time favorite. Everyone is super friendly. You'll pay about 8-9 bucks for a sandwhich + chips, it's worth it!
(4)David E.
We are in town on vacation and found this place through Yelp. My Jackson sandwich was very tasty. My whole family was impressed. If there are two negatives they are the cost and wait. It was $40 for two adult meals and two kids. Also even after 1:00 there was a rather long wait to have our food prepared. However we liked the place a lot and will likely come back if we return to Wilmington.
(5)John S.
very good deli. creative sandwiches.
(4)Melissa P.
This is a find that lives up to its reputation. I had the Plymouth, and it was incredible. I like sweet things, so I just couldn't resist. There's definitely something about their sandwiches that takes the flavor to another level that your regular meat & cheese delis don't touch. They also brought out a big bowl of water for my puppy, which scored extra cool points. I will definitely return the next time I'm in Wilmington.
(5)Korah S.
Best deli in Wilmington hands down! Actually, best deli anywhere! Original sandwiches, tons of meat, fresh ingredients, and friendly staff. I eat here about once a week. My favorite is the plymouth. There also serve fresh sides and fresh soups... i love their mac and cheese soup! The wait can be long between 12:30-1:30 but it is worth the wait. They now accept cards!
(5)Brie D.
If I could give them 6 stars, I would. I come here often, being a resident of downtown, and I am NEVER dissatisfied. I make a point to try most specials, since I've tried nearly everything on their standard menu so many times that I just need to mix it up - but it's always awesome. The owner, Brad, is an easy-going, approachable guy who is often there, getting his hands dirty and helping his staff out, as any good business owner should. Since they are often busy (I try to go right after lunch rush to cut down my wait time) and they hand-craft each sandwich, you do have to deal with a small wait time. Do not despair, it is 100% worth it! The staff is friendly, the quality of the food is spot-on, and it's easy to find and access. I am speaking only of my experiences with the downtown location - but I don't imagine their quality of service or food would differ at their Monkey Junction or Wrightsville Beach area location. If you haven't tried this place ... what are you waiting for!?
(5)Jeff B.
Excellent food at reasonable prices. I had the Sloppy Chops (slow cooked pot roast and melted cheese on a toasted baguette with au jus). All I can say is WOW! We definitely come back next trip to Wilmington.
(5)Stephanie Z.
Stopped in on opening day at the Wrightsville location and was disappointed but it was their first day so I overlooked a lot. Went back today to check on my favorite Chicago and it was GREAT just like downtown. I am glad they are near my home now and I think they have the best sandwiches-very unique instead of the same old ham and cheese stuff. Great job CD!!
(5)Andrew P.
My wife and I come here regularly for lunch. Our favorite sandwich is the Constantinople, which we always order along with one we haven't tried yet, then split both for a great midday meal. At the rate we're going, we should have the whole menu conquered within the month. No worries though, they offer new variety in the form of daily specials (one time they made a sandwich using two Britt's Doughnuts as a bun!). Soups are good too, and the service is excellent. Expect lines during peak lunch hours, but you'll understand why once you've sunk your teeth into one of these delicious concoctions. I highly recommend Chop's Deli for the best 'wiches this side of the Carolinas.
(5)Frank M.
I don't know why I waited so long to try this place, but I am not going to go that long again. Great, great food, decent prices and good atmosphere. I would recommend and have recommended this place many times since.
(5)Wesley M.
This place is awesome! Great food and friendly service. They really know how to make a sandwich.
(5)L L.
I was just passing through on my way back from the NC beaches when I looked up Chop on Yelp. Thank you Yelpers! I will definitely return if I am ever in Wilmington. My sandwich was amazingly delicious and huge. One must have the lemonade too.
(5)Josif W.
I seriously have never been let down by Chop's!!! Each time I go, I try something different on the menu and each item it is as good if not better than the last. Their different variations of mac & cheese each week are very good and their soups are fantastic. One may think the price of the food is a lot for just a sandwich, but you aren't getting JUST a sandwich! You are getting an AMAZING sandwich packed full of quality Boar's Head meat and cheese. Their daily specials never disappoint. If you see that anything comes with the Chop's slaw on it- GET IT! I have never had slaw this good! Also, if you are a dipper like me, ask for a little cup of their southwestern ranch! VERY GOOD!
(5)Terese S.
Two words: sandwich artistry! Yummy, yummy, yum. Manhattan and the Plymouth were big hits. Kids meals were great. Mac n' Cheese side was crazy good -- could have made that a meal. Big selection of sandwiches, we'd love to go back to try more but are visiting from Chicago. Thanks for a great lunch!
(5)Michele H.
Yummy and fresh. Nice setting with several beverage choices. Only complaint was they didn't have the beverages ready an hour into lunch--tea wasn't made and the coke wasn't ready.
(5)C J W.
The best authentic deli in town. I have had their pulled pork sandwich, hot pastrami on rye & roast beef. In the winter, the soups are great when I am walking to/from school. All perfect. Fast service.
(5)Rob R.
Seriously the best sandwich place I have ever been to. So good. Great staff!
(5)Ziggy J.
Seriously the best sandwiches ever!!! Not to mention a super friendly staff. If you live, or visit, Wilmington, this must be one of your stops. I would seriously eat here every day if I lived here!
(5)Denise K.
Sandwiches are delicious! Hardest part is choosing which one to order. Rip up the carpet and paint the walls and it would be perfect although I don't think that's stopping people!
(5)Josh B.
It is good, don't get me wrong. But it takes forever to get your food. So if you are on a short lunch break, don't bother. Definite hipster vibe from this place. They sell boars head, which is good, but at the same time it is just boars head, you can get that at a 1000 other places. Just a little over rated in my opinion.
(3)Mark P.
Awesome Manhattan sandwich and extremely friendly service! Will definitely eat here next time I am in Wilmington. We had 7 folks eating there and they all loved what they ordered.
(5)Darren R.
After receiving a recommendation from someone whose opinion I value on food, I gave Chops a try. I have been back once since my initial visit. The sandwiches are indeed very good. They use top quality (Boar's Head) meats and fresh ingredients. I am not sure if it is the best in town, there are a lot of really great sandwich places in Wilmington, but it is very good and definitely the best down town. The one thing I really like about Chops that sets it aside from other places, is the genuine passion you get from the guys working there. These guys love making good sandwiches for people, and dam it I enjoy eating them. Go check them out next time you are down town and craving a sandwich.
(4)Ha N.
It was filling, tasty, and fresh-tasting. The broccoli cheese soup was also great. I wish there was a sandwich place like this where I live. I think it's priced appropriately, too, because I can probably be content with half a sandwich. The tomato basil soup was especially good with The Chicago, which needed, I think, a little acid. The Tripoli that I got was super tasty and I would definitely get that again. GAH. Seriously recommend this place.
(5)J F.
Agree with other reviews...good food. Long line? No problem. But...40 minutes after ordering to get a sandwich? Not worth it. Apparently phone orders take priority over patrons. Suggest visiting during off hours or phoning in your order.
(2)Adriana L.
Wow - talk about cravings. I can't really eat gluten, so I was worried about eating at a deli but the reviews were so good that we went in anyway. They don't serve any gluten-free bread options, but told me that they would be more than happy to make me one of their sandwiches if I brought in my own gluten-free bread, which I thought was pretty nice. Since we were traveling and I didn't have any gluten-free bread with me, I had a spring salad, which was huge and gorgeous, full of berries and made with super fresh ingredients. I regret not taking a picture; it was really beautiful and oh-so-tasty. I also decided to live a little and face a bit of gluten in their New England chowder and boy, was that a wise decision... One of the best chowders I've ever had (as good as Doyle's in Boston). Rich, thick, full of chunks of crab and clams. Don't pass it if you like chowder, I guarantee that you won't regret it. My husband ordered a beautiful simple La Plata Panini, which he loved. Our son ordered the bacon mac-and-cheese and was pretty much licking the bowl - according to him, it was "awesome" (the highest compliment he gives to good food). The in-laws had the pulled pork and their sandwiches were really huge and delicious. I could smell the smokiness from the pulled pork and barbecue sauce and it was really fantastic. Staff was super friendly and young, low-key, which I loved, so an excellent experience that I'd love to repeat and recommend to anyone visiting Wilmington at lunch time.
(5)Alicia D.
Great Deli! The staff was so awesome! They called you by name and then followed-up later and asked you how your specific sandwich was. Had one of the hot Italian sandwiches which was really great and huge! I had leftovers that I was able to make a second meal out of it. The mint-sweet tea was really good too! The place isnt fancy or anything, but had some cool art up on the walls that you could buy. Great place for a casual lunch or dinner.
(5)Jeff W.
Eat well and eat like a king! My wife's chix salad wrap was fresh and tasty and I had the best (and thickest) reuben that I've eaten in a loooooonnnngggg time. The staff was friendly, the portions FILLING and I'd eat there every other day if I lived in Wilmington. Big happy smiles all around the other customer's faces... GET IN THERE AND EAT!
(5)Sarah H.
My husband and I just got the Monaco and the tripoli sandwiches and we have NEVER had something that even comes near to how good these sandwiches taste. For an anything but ordinary sandwich made with top quality boars head meats , you can't pass up on a chance to eat at Chops . We will definitely be back.
(5)Robin R.
I don't care how good the food is, waiting 35 minutes for my sandwich to be made will insure I never go back during lunch time. Hmmm perhaps the busiest time of the day might warrant more than one lone person making sandwiches when the line is 10 deep at the counter? Just sayin'. I can get better service than this elsewhere.
(1)KT K.
You must try this place if you like getting good food and feeling like you got more than you paid for. Our first time today and we will most definitely go back. Wife had the "Bordeaux" and said "it's too much food" (ate it all, so I presume she liked it anyway). I had the "Tripoli" and cannot say enough good things about it. FANTASTIC!
(5)Robert G.
Fresh, delicious, plentiful, creative food from the soups, mac n cheese, sandwiches, wraps. Everything they have is wonderful. You can't go with anything they have on the menu. This is not a NY Style Deli. It is actually more like a restaurant w/o the waiters. Plus, if you are a tree hugger, the utencils, plates, cups are all biodegradeable.
(5)Jennifer T.
Delicious and inexpensive. We split a huge sandwich and two hefty sides for $12. The Monaco sandwich was very tasty. Today they had Baja Mac and Cheese with a tasty little kick and Pumpkin Pecan Soup which was almost dessert like. The staff is also fun which is a nice little bonus. Will go back anytime we're in Wilmington.
(4)Calvin H.
The guy who took my order (Chop? He looks exactly like the guy on the menu.) was super friendly. I spend most of my time on the West Coast and the Northeast, where you don't get this type of service unless you dine at a 5-star restaurant, so I was pleasantly surprised. The decor is understated and funky. I love how all of the tables are hand-painted with a different design. I ordered the Marseille - honey-glazed chicken, brie, arugula, tomatoes, and cajun remoulade on a toasted baguette. Delicious. The vegetables were fresh and plentiful (big plus for me) and the Boar's Head meat was as juicy and flavorful as promised. Chop's is hands-down the best sandwich shop I've ever been to. Low-key, super friendly, and unpretentious. If I lived in Wilmington, I'd go all the time.
(5)Lauren D.
Excellent sandwiches
(5)Kenny F.
Now this is what I call a genuine deli! Boars Head meats and huge helpings of it at that! All original sandwiches and the couple that I have had, have been fantastic! Genuinely friendly and they usually remember your name after coming in just a couple times. I HIGHLY recommend the downtown location and I just heard that they opened another spot in Monkey Junction. Do NOT hesitate to eat here, you will surely miss out if you do!
(5)Bethany F.
This place is delicious! The mac and cheese is amazing. The service is friendly and they are eco conscious.
(5)Zack B.
I'm obsessed with this place. I live about 6 blocks away so I'm there so much they know my name now. The sandwiches are made with quality ingredients and about a pound of Boar's Head meat, so they're absolutely bursting with flavor and very filling. At first, service will seem slower than most delis, but you'll understand why when you see the complexity of each sandwich they produce. That being said, I can only really speak for the signature sandwiches named after the world's port cities staring down at you from the wall behind the front counter, because I'm in the process of working my way through that extensive listing of deliciousness. Someone earlier mentioned the tea. It's absolutely another highlight. The sweet tea is sweet, but not overbearingly so, and there's also this fabulous hint of mint or something that's so hard to pin down it's like it's playing games with your taste buds.
(5)Harold J.
Great homemade soups. The sandwich proportions are well worth the price.
(5)Joe M.
I traveled to Wilmington, NC for work and had lunch here... This might have been one of the best sandwiches I have ever had! Well done, guys!
(5)Will O.
Excellent sandwiches. The daily special free me in, I didn't order it once I saw the menu. The Manhattan was fantastic, the Plymouth was "very good" - if we ever return to Wilmington, we'll definitely come back here.
(5)Jenna S.
Chop's Deli is as good as it gets! My favorite sandwich shop in Wilmington. The Plymouth sammie is TO DIE FOR! Great staff, very friendly. They use Boar's Head products, so it is a little more expensive than your regular, run-of-the-mill deli, but worth every penny. Parking at the downtown location can be a little painful, but a little walk through downtown Wilmington is a-ok with me.
(5)Turtle B.
Holy crap! Best sandwiches downtown Wilmington. Half of a sandwich fills me up. Order at register, pay cash, grab your chips and they will call you when your order is ready. If you're gonna go during the week, just know that around 12:15 a huge line will form inside, and seating will be hard to find.
(5)Romin B.
Chop's is without question a great deli, with yummy sandwiches, soups, and mac and cheese. But I can't give them 5 stars because the prices are almost untenable for a casual lunch. A sandwich, soup and drink will throw you back $14. Thankfully they have a special every day where you can get that combination for $10-11, which seems much more reasonable. Even so, it's too hard to resist the mainstays on the menu. I've only had 3 sandwiches so far, all good (favorite so far being the Malmo), but there are a half dozen more I'd like to try first before making any real recommendations. They all sound delicious. The sandwiches are reasonably sized, sure, but I wouldn't go so far as other reviewers to say they are particularly big. 1 sandwich should reasonably fill up most people, but don't expect multiple meals unless you're a light eater. All in all, I definitely enjoy Chop's and would be happy to see it branch into the Triangle, but I can't see myself being a regular customer unless the menu prices drop closer in line to the specials.
(4)Jenn V.
I was in town with my brother and his girlfriend and as we were exploring I asked a local for a good lunch recommendation. She said this place was popular and I now know why. We found our way there and it happen to be during lunchtime and the line was almost out the door. They moved through it quickly and it almost wasn't enough for me to make a decision on what sandwich to get. I settled on the Marseile, and it was also well worth the wait it took to get out food( almost 20 mins). It isn't big on the inside and each table has pictures of famous faces that have visited the establishment, cute. The workers are quick and efficient and know what they are doing. I will dream about this place and my amazing sandwich until I can visit again.
(5)Cate A.
I am NOT surprised that Chop's has a five-star overall rating. The sandwiches are AMAZING - you can't beat Boar's Head. Quite crowded at like 2 pm on a Wednesday, but I don't blame any of the patrons in there! If I lived in Wilmington, I would be a regular. If you are visiting Wilmington, I suggest you GO HERE! MMMMMMMMMMM
(5)Bill D.
Awesome, huge sandwiches that break the mold.
(5)Mike S.
I have traveled far and wide and this is by far the best deli I've eaten in. Every thing is very fresh and the service is great. If in the area don't miss it. Mike
(5)Ken M.
Awesome, awesome sandwich place. Friendly staff, fresh ingredients, great location, cool owner, very fast service. Ranks among the best sandwich locations in town and probably the best or second best downtown. Prices are a bit steep, that's my only complaint.
(4)Tripp W.
Lunch in Wilmington has just been bumped up a notch. Chop's is the place I have been wishing would open up in ILM for years. Innovative sandwiches, using quality ingredients, with quirky indoor/outdoor seating, and friendly staff. The left side of the menu is more mundane sandwiches/wraps such as tuna and chicken salads, which my parents rave about. The right side signature options are where it's at though. I ordered up the signature Malmo sammie with a side of cheesy beef chili mac soup for $10.25 (with tax). The Malmo consists of a ham and cheese spread (basically house made pimento cheese with ham mixed in), Boars Head maple glazed chicken breast, tomato, red onion and savory mayonnaise (spicy/cajun favored) on Sweet & Savory Bakery multigrain. This thing was a freaking monster (a good 4" thick) and off the charts delicious. The 'soup' was just as good as the sandwich. I use quotes because the components were so chunky that it could have passed for a pasta dish or stew. If you crossed chili, mac and cheese, cheese burger, and vegetable soup; you would arrive at beef chili mac. Heavenly. This was so much food that I could only finish half the sandwich and 'soup' before giving up. I am definitely not a light eater either. The staff was extremely friendly and took time to explain any menu item I question. A huge plus was the environmentally friendly aspects of Chop's. They use local bread (S&S Bakery), try to source local veggies, and use compostable silverware/cups. This is by far my new favorite place to eat in downtown Wilmington.
(5)steve h.
Wow! Best broccoli cheese soup I have ever had. Sandwiches to die for. You can't make a bad choice here Plus, it's just a fun place with great service
(5)Peter D.
Great place for sandwiches, and killer mac and cheese
(5)Linda F.
This is no greasy spoon and... Oh my gosh, this sandwich is heaven on toasted rye!!! I have to admit, when this place opened a few years ago I looked at the menu and said no, uh uh, not gonna try this place at all. The reason being was the odd ingredients on their signature sandwiches that in my book did not sound good on a sandwich at all. After all, I considered myself a sub and sandwich connoisseur! Well little did I know that I was merely an amateur in what flavor combinations would make a sandwich explode with flavor in your mouth. I finally gave in after smelling the wonderful smells coming from coworkers desks, asking what they were having and it was a Chops sandwich, and they looked so darn good and juicy and delicious. So, went in and tried and I am a huge fan now. I tried several different signature sandwiches on the menu, each was good in its own right but my favorite is the Constantinople. It is my regular order now for the past two years, and life is not complete without that flavor combination. Any sandwich on the menu is served up proper, fresh made and they are HUGE! Oh, also let me mention the soups, all homemade and bursting with fresh flavors! If you go for lunch, try to avoid the noon to 1pm rush, it gets pretty busy in there with a line to the door and standing room only. That is a testament to how much people love this place.
(5)Gregory C.
I visited Chops Deli on July 12, 2012 at approximately 3:40 PM with a party of 3 adults (incl. me) and 4 children (11-12 yrs old). This was the first restaurant I found using Yelp. The atmosphere is relaxed and staff was very friendly. We tried the following sandwiches: Constantinople, 3x3 Grilled, cheese, Ruben dog, and the Monaco. We loved all of them. One of our party (an 11 year old) did find the hot dog to be very spicy, but still liked it. The sweet tea with mint reminded me of the tea my Grandmother served. Her's had fresh mint from her garden. I don't know where theirs comes from, but it tasted very natural. The prices were quite affordable. We will eat there again when we return to Wilmington, NC.
(5)Carrie N.
Best deli sandwich I've every had. So generous with the meat, you could feed two people off of one sandwich!
(5)Mallory A.
The Constantinople was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had! This place has a great menu with all of the traditional deli options plus creative and different signature sandwiches.
(5)sami j.
This place is now on my list of 'places I CONSTANTLY want to go to lunch'. I mean come on, any place that states that their menu is evolutionary and tends to mutate periodically already gets the double thumbs up from me. Very cozy inside, and I really want to steal one of the old wooden surfboards to put in my house. But then I likely wouldn't be allowed back, and that WAY outweighs my surfboard-want! They use only Boar's Head brand meats and cheeses, so you know you're in for a good sandwich here. I ordered the Hamburg (which is not a hamburger at all, mind you) and not only was it delicious and super-fresh, but the soft, mouth-watering bread from Sweet and Savory just sealed the deal. And sometimes, if you're lucky, they have fresh lemonade that is some of the best I've ever had. No lies! One of my favorite things about this place aside from the stellar food and service is the fact that they are EXTREMELY eco-friendly. I was delighted to find that my drinking cup was made out of corn (how often can you claim that?), and they had recycling bins for everything on your way out. Big ups to you on that, Chops. They tweet/Facebook daily with their specials of the day, so there's no reason not to follow on either, unless you dislike your stomach growling at the monitor at 9:30 a.m. (It's so worth it though..) And, as J^3 stated above, cash only! If you're forgetful they conveniently have a little ATM right outside. Ah, service.
(5)Lucy C.
Delicious sandwiches! My husband and I stopped here on our way driving from Bald Head Island back to Raleigh to catch a flight. We both loved our sandwiches! He had the Manhattan and I had the Plymouth. The meat is thinly sliced and piled high. The service was friendly and quick, even though there was a long line to place our order. A very worth while stop in Wilmington for lunch!
(5)Kelli Marie B.
I love you. Do I need to say more? Thanks for opening the monkey jcn place! Definitely best sandwich in town.
(5)Shea P.
Awesome food, awesome people! I highly recommend it! We went there for lunch and I got the pork BBQ. It was delicious! The staff was very friendly and helpful!
(5)Chris W.
Super deli in downtown Wilmington that is certainly my favorite place to go for lunch. The other reviews have been spot on. One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is their excellent iced tea. It was great and full of flavor. Obviously not your run of the mill lipton. Also the sweet tea was sweet but their wasn't a fear of a diabetic coma from having a few glasses like you have some places. I also enjoyed that my sandwich came with a pineapple wedge and the fact that the prices on the menu included tax. Why don't more places in the US do that? Do be warned though if you hit them in the middle of the lunch rush it could take ten or fifteen minutes to get your sandwich but they warned me up front about it and with great food, a good atmosphere and (hopefully) good company I'll take a short wait over fast food any day.
(5)Ashley L.
obsessed with chops! the staff is so crazy friendly and everyone is always in such a great mood. their sandwiches are amazing and never disappoint. I know I'm gonna have a tasty lunch if I'm going to chops!
(5)Darci M.
I reserve the 5-star rating for the best of the best... and sometimes I still have mixed feelings about whether an establishment is truly, "as good as it gets". But I exuberantly give Chop's Deli my highest rating. The sandwiches have an old fashion goodness to them while still including finishing tastes that champion a foodies quest for interesting greatness. The owner, who enthusiastically commands the register, offered that southern charm and addressed each person in my party by name and shared insight (and enthusiasm) for the sandwiches we ordered. It was early when we went but it quickly filled up during our lunch. This is NOT a place you simply rush in/out of. The food is made to order and made with care. I'd highly recommend taking the time to come in, order your food and enjoy some good conversation while your sandwiches are being prepared.
(5)Trey S.
Best sandwiches in Wilmington! Lines can be long, but what do you expect when the food's this good.
(5)Michelle W.
They probably have the best deli sandwiches I've ever had. It's a good thing I live an hour away, because I'd be there eating 3 times a week if I lived in the area. I've had a few different sandwiches, all were great, but my favorite has to be the Plymouth. Their sweet tea is great, sweet, but not overly so. The line can get long, but it is definitely worth the wait. If you are in the Wilmington area, you need to stop by!
(5)Mike Y.
HELLZYEAH. This place is awesome. Incredible. I've been craving it since my last visit. It's the best deli outside of NYC that I've ever (EVAR!) been to. They load on the meat and serve it in creative combinations with veggies and sauces. If I lived in Wilmington I would eat here several times a day.
(5)Maia D.
All the positive reviews are well deserved. The place was clean had a fun atmosphere, everyone was super friendly, and the sandwiches were absolutely delicious. I will be sure to visit every time I come to Wilmington.
(5)David L.
Pretty cool place. Nothing fancy, but the food is quite good. Awesome sandwiches!
(4)Amy W.
Chops was amazing! I told them the type of sandwich I wanted and they helped me figure out what to order. When my husband and I left they called us both by name!!
(5)Fast F.
The special of the day was the Amsterdam and side. Excellent. One of the best sandwiches I have had in a long time. First time here and the fresh food was great, and the people behind the counter were actually happy to have you in their store (a rare thing in today's society). Walked in - looked at menu and ordered food - was sitting and eating in less than 10 minutes. Looked to get busier around noon. I would recommend this place to anyone! Definitely a place to hit when in town!!
(5)Rich A.
Food is great. Service is friendly and Brad is great. It takes a while because they are busy and hand crafting enormous sandwiches to order.
(5)tom j.
One of downtowns best sandwich places. You're a fool if you don't try this place for lunch.
(5)Chris M.
Awesome sandwiches, and they are HUGE! I had the Bordeaux (roast beef and mushroom gravy) it was great, a little messy, but great. The staff was very freindly.
(5)Nina P.
I absolutely love this place, every time I go in, I have to get the Monaco! It's awesome.
(5)Amy Z.
Amazing, finely crafted (and rather large!) sandwiches using Boar's Head meats! Yum! Fun atmosphere & efficient, friendly staff! :)
(5)Christopher C.
Amazing! This deli does not play around! The sandwiches are perfect and heaping with meat and cheeses! It's nice to finally find a deli in the south that rivals many traditional northern delis. Keep it up!
(5)Tammy C.
OMGosh! I've never been as impressed with a restaurant as I am with this place. Its just a "deli" but its so much more. First time I went in I ordered something I saw another customer had and I was so happy. Kept thinking about it all day and went the next day and ordered something from the menu and I was hooked! I go there several times a week now for lunch. It is totally affordable in this economy, and the sandwiches are so great they really deserve a special place on yelp! Fresh, overly generous, tasty, wonderful blends of cheeses and fresh ingredients. I love Chops and I would recommend it over any other place in Wilmington.
(5)Rudy B.
Awesome place! Highly recommended for an awesome deli sandwich or salad.
(5)Emily D.
We ate one take-out meal from here. The Constantinople sandwich was delicious even as take-out. Also, the customer service was great. The guy I talked to on the phone was helpful and patient with me as I tried to figure out if we would be able to find a parking space near the restaurant during river fest. We were on vacation, so wanted to try a variety of places, but if we return we would definitely revisit Chops.
(5)jenna r.
Yummy! Every time I go here the sandwiches are amazing. I absolutely love their combinations. The Plymouth (turkey with apples, cranberry preserves and Havarti cheese) was delicious!
(5)Chris G.
delicious sandwiches, great prices, gracious owner.
(5)Clifton C.
Absolutely the best sandwiches in downtown Wilmington. You can tell that a sandwich artist is in the back creating a masterpiece for each order. A must try and try again and again. Chops is the heat!
(5)Brian C.
As good as it gets! This has become my go to spot for lunch downtown. Food has been spectacular on each of my two visits. Everything is fresh and served up fast. Staff is super friendly and the sandwiches and soups are outstanding. Lunch specials are updated daily on his Facebook page. You've got to check these guys out; you will not be disappointed.
(5)Col B.
Every time I have eaten at Chop's, I have had a great lunch. The chef salad and tomato basil soup are delicious. The Monaco (Lemon pepper chicken breast, mozzarella, arugula, tomato, fresh basil and a tomato pesto sauce on three cheese semolina) is one of my favorite sandwiches in Wilmington. Wish they were open for dinner too!
(5)Chris D.
Best sandwich I've had in Wilmington. I still love me some sweet and savory but this place rocks and the owner is just a nice guy definetly a great local spot.
(5)John O.
Sweet heavens this deli is amazing. Go in and have any of the sandwiches on the big board and you will be happy. Seriously. If you want to go a little cheaper, the daily special always pleases and you get soup along with it. Brad at the counter is friendly and full of good sandwich advice.
(5)Inez S.
The sandwiches here in Chop's Deli is really worth to try. It's very good! I love eating here and it never dissapoints me. I can just chill and eat my favorite sandwich here and then leave the restaurant with satisfaction. They always make sure that the food they're serving is fresh. The place have a nice, cozy decors. The service is also great. They were all friendly. This is my ideal place to just relax. I'll always be coming back to this place.
(5)Robert T.
The sandwiches are good...REAL GOOD. I was originally complaining in my first review that I love the sandwiches, but didn't like how long it took to make them (about 45 minutes during an off peak, half full place the first time I visited Chops). I headed back and ordered another sandwich today in a near empty shop, and this order came out quick and is incredibly tasty. I can see why it might take longer than Subway to crank out a sandwich. It's because these sandwiches are, quite literally, the best deli sandwiches I've ever had. The staff is incredibly friendly and to top it off, the owner actually looks just like the logo. Rad.
(5)Michele T.
This was my best deli experience thus far. I had the Plymouth. Turkey with havarti cheese, thin sliced granny smith apple and cranberry sauce. It was huge. When I saw it I was sure I'd never finish it but after one bite I knew I would be sure to eat it all. They use only boars head meats and cheeses and everything is fresh. Some reviewers complain about the wait but we did not find it excessive and the food was well worth it. I appreciate the earth friendly packaging and recycling as well.
(5)Pat D.
Ate here with the wife yesterday. Hands down, the BEST sandwich either of us has ever had! The employees and staff are super friendly. Convinced us to try the Manhattan Clam Chowder and the Key Lime Pie - so glad we did, both were terrific. Ridiculous amounts of top quality meat on the sandwich. Can't wait to go back! Maybe even today!
(5)JP L.
Sandwiches are fresh and delicious. The portions are ENORMOUS. Like, seriously, a pound of meat. Amazing specials and the nicest guy in town behind the counter. You can tell he truly loves his work: smiling, singing, dancing. Awesome.
(5)David E.
3 locations with a photo menu on their website. Works great to review on your phone before visiting, or ordering to pick up. Daily specials posted on their Facebook page. Everything is good. Large portions. Locally owned. Get the Chop's Freaker (can and/or bottle koozie).
(5)Clint W.
Love their creativity. Have been trying each one of their specialty sandwiches since I moved down here. Malmö is probably my favorite but I'm still only about 3/4 through the whole thing. Wish they got a little more creative with the Mac and cheese but it's solid.
(4)Curtis B.
We used to come here on a regular basis, maybe at least once a month but, we moved out of Wilmington about a year ago and don't make it downtown often. This past Friday, we stopped in for a sandwich around 7 PM and ordered. We were both sadly disappointed when our sandwiches were prepared. It appear that they have kept their prices the same but, is seems that they have put about half the meat that they used to put in. I'd be willing to pay maybe even a dollar more a sandwich if they would have kept the same amount of meats and cheeses in the sandwich's like they used to. We used to be faithful Chop's Fans and now it appears that they have become just another deli making mediocre sandwiches so I'd rather take my appetite and craving for a good sandwich elsewhere.
(2)Shilpi S.
What can I say that hasn't been said before. If you are in the area its a must go place. It should be on Food Network if its not there yet. They have a huge menu for a deli and couple of sides which seemed popular. I loved how they have named the sandwich on some cities across the globe. We went a mixed group of people avoiding red meat and meat altogether and were surprised it catered to all. Me and my girlfriend ordered a Monaco which was on flatbread and it was by the best sandwich i have ever had. No joking. It really was. The chicken was well cooked and mozzarella they used was so fresh and it melted melted without being stringy. God! It was divine. My vegetarian friend ordered a pimento sandwich and I would have devoured that if I wasn't full from my Monaco. I am already planning a trip to get to more of there sammys and shall try some mac n cheese I have heard is to die for.
(5)Brenda L.
Had the Plymouth today, and it was awesome!!! Just like a Thanksgiving dinner served between two slices of freshly toasted bread. Since I wanted an Arnold Palmer to drink, the cashier suggested I try the sweet mint tea and lemonade together.... Delicious!! I would suggest more lemonade than tea or it can be too sweet. I will definitely go back.
(5)Laura N.
Alright, alright, alright. I totally, completely, 100% agree with the all rage. Before I tucked into my Plymouth, I too was a skeptic. I mean, it's just a sandwich, right? And the venue leaves something to be desired. And it's filled with smoke. And the queue is out the door. And just when you can't feel higher or mightier that you won't succumb to the hype, you have a bite and realize that the sandwich you ordered is mind blowing. So there's that.
(5)Feven G.
Such a great deli! All of the meats are high quality and the house-made sauces and pimento cheese were delicious! The owner is very friendly and cares about making sure everyone enjoys their time. Will definitely be back!
(5)Patricia D.
So. So. So. Good. I wish they were open later. A little overpriced but you definitely get what you pay for. The portion of the sandwiches and sides are great. Very friendly staff.
(5)Eryn R.
Brad is a long time family friend and an amazing businessman. Although Chop's is always busy, the wait is never long and the food is exceptional. Chop's is the only sandwich place I recommended for friends and visiting guests.
(5)Alana T.
We visited the RiverWalk, and this was a must stop for us. Our first trip, and with five of us, it took us a bit to decide, even after having looked at the menu for a few minutes ahead of time. I had the club. They let me make modifications to my sandwich. My son's "soup" of the day was Macaroni & Cheese with Pastrami! His Amsterdam sandwich was shredded roast beef, cheese and mushroom gravy. The customer service was 5 star + so, walk a few blocks and you won't regret it!
(5)Karen T.
Hands down best deli in town, best staff and coolest owner! Thanks Brad! The Jackson is my favorite sandwich and the Mac and cheese specials are always incredible! The mint sweet tea is the best!
(5)Rose L.
Chop's Deli is always on our "to eat list" when visiting Wilmington. When I'm traveling to a new place I always seek out: a local pint, a local, unique cocktail AND a fantastic sandwich. Chop's Deli has the fantastic sandwich! They have two locations in the Wilmington area; one directly downtown and one about five minutes from Wrightsville beach (I recommend the Chop's Deli downtown over the other for experience!) Walking into Chop's Deli as a first, second and third timer can be daunting (not sure if it gets better after the third visit, we'll see next time!) They have a huge menu above the kitchen/register with 10+ sandwich choices. Since Chop's is usually busy, it can be overwhelming to try to decide while holding up the line. Paper menu's would be very helpful! When you (finally) decide what to order, things move quickly. A bag of chips and their fresh lemonade or ice tea compliment the sandwich nicely but I'd skip the sides (jalapeno mac & cheese was underwhelming); the sammy is where they shine! I have tried the Constantinople and Plymouth sandwiches, with the Constantinople being the winner. Think corned beef, pastrami, turkey, all the cheeses--swiss and cheddar-- red onion, roasted red peppers, Hand an amazing cajun remoulade with cranberry relish. God, it is good! The actual restaurant is a little outdated with carpeted floors and some interesting artwork on the walls [think Portlandia's "bad coffee house art"] and a mixture of odd tables and chairs. It gives the hole in the wall feel that some might be looking for, but I'd rather just grab a chair outside and enjoy the fresh air from the river down the street. This is definitely a must-stop shop on your tour of Wilmington, and if you're a real planner, their website has a detailed menu and photos for every sandwich offered!
(4)Annie M.
What a great place, I wish they would expand to the Charlotte area. Exploring downtown Wilmington, we stopped into Chops for a quick bite. The place is casual with several sandwich options. Brad, one of the owners mans the register and greets everyone that walks in. I think he is half the reason the place does so well. Cheery, helpful and just a cool guy. We split the Palermo an Italian toasted sandwich, it was full of flavor and enough food for two. Our lunch companions got the Malmo, Plymouth and daily special and all looked awesome. This is a great place if you want a legit sandwich that will leave you feeling satisfied. It's really hard to find a good deli, but this place has it down to a funky, hipster, and fun science.
(5)Linda C.
If I could give more than five stars I would!!! I had the Amsterdam. Brisket and mushroom gravy with cheese just like a piece of heaven. This is a must try in Wilmington!!
(5)Chris D.
This place is awesome! No matter what sandwich or side you choose, you'll love it. My wife and I come here every time we're in Wilmington.
(5)Bryan T.
What can I say about Chop's that hasn't been said? Sandwiches have always come off as simple and boring to me and "Chop" has turned every damn one of them into a culinary masterpiece. I just brought my father here who just retired. He spent the past 30+ years of his life in medical sales. What I'm getting at is, he spent over 30 years taking wealthy doctors to 4 and 5 star restaurants throughout the US. That truly wad what he did. Entertained at the finest restaurants and made the sale. He is now obsessed. While at Chop's, he must have said 15 times "Wow, this is excellent!" Sorry, I didn't go into great detail of what I had and how the subtle accent of every ingredient played into making my meal excellent. Considering the amount of reviews, I am sure that should not be too dificult to find.
(5)Rachel O.
I love this place! I've been to the all three in the area and have never been disappointed!!! The Chicago is my all-time favorite!!! The downtown location is probably my favorite. Food: Try the Chicago, The Palermo, The Monaco, The Hamburg, La Plata or the Marseille. I've tried all of the above and they were awesome!!! The sauces are all homemade. Service: fast and friendly, if you're at the downtown location the owner comes table to table to ask how you're doing. Ambiance: I love the artwork at all 3 locations. The downtown one espcially. Overall- i prefer the downtown location most of all due to the art, the owner and you get chips instead of the weird potatoe wedges served at the Writesville beach location
(5)Mike G.
It is hard for me to not give them 5 stars since they are rated 5 stars. If I was rating based solely on food, 5 stars no doubts, but I don't do that. Because most of their sandwiches are "Panini" pressed, there is a constant smell of over cooked bread and has a faint visual of smoke in the restaurant. We ate outside and thoroughly enjoyed the food. The 4 of us got 4 different sandwiches and we all loved them. We would absolutely go back, plus the area is great and only one street over from the waterfront and NC Battleship.
(4)Harv S.
Great local sandwich stop on your way into/out of Wilmington. You can choose from a dozen or so house sandwich recipes or build your own. They put the sandwiches in a panini press. For 5 stars, go to South College Deli on the other side of town. Sandwiches are just as good but they have homemade chips and cookies.
(4)Kelly M.
Visited Chop's on Saturday for lunch based on the Yelp reviews. Ya'll were right! This place is the jam. Located right on Front Street, we visited about 11 am on Saturday and just beat the lunch rush. Ordered the Plymouth and the one with pimento cheese (sorry, my memory..). They were fast, delicious and huge. The variety of ingredients and breads were great! My guy really enjoyed the mint iced tea and I loved the lemonade. They had orangeade too - a rare treat! We sat outside and people watched for a while after convincing two friends to join us. The clear winner was the Plymouth. It was like Thanksgiving in a sandwich with green apple slices, cranberry relish, turkey breast and havarti. Holy crap this sandwich was good. We woke up on Sunday and made a beeline to Chop's just to order this again. We will be back every time we're in downtown Wimy!
(5)Jeremy S.
Downtown Wilmington can leave lunch diners feeling squeezed. Sometimes there seems to be little room between trendy, pricey and touristy affairs on one hand and greasy pub grub on the other. Front Street's Chops Deli occupies an intermediary niche, where one can find fresh and tasty on the cheap. Co-owners Chris Graham and former UNCW student Brad Corpening have put together a concept that satisfies on a student budget. While Chops appears to do much of its business via carry out, it's actually a pretty friendly place to sit down with colorful local art--present selections might be called "retro-'70s-neo-cubist"--brightening the dining room. Additional contributions, mainly in crayon, adorn the open kitchen courtesy of Graham's 5-year-old daughter, Emma. It's funky and fun, and sets the tone for the whole experience. Chops' menu features a number of fixed and rotating geographically themed sandwiches--such as the Monaco (lemon pepper chicken breast and basil on three-cheese semolina), Bordeaux (rare roast beef, brie and mushroom gravy on a French baguette) and Tripoli (deli meats, three cheeses, mustard and horseradish on rye). In all instances, the emphasis is on fresh, so the formulas can vary based on what's available any given day. Other features are salads and wraps: the tuna salad wrap -- featuring spinach, red lettuce and red grapes on a grilled white tortilla -- redefines the genre. The warm, crisp tortilla along with the balancing crunch and sweetness of the fruit will make previous experiences with a typical tuna salad wrap disappear from memory forever; it rocks. The meatless version of the chef's salad features fresh, thin sliced Havarti, Colby, Muenster, Swiss and mozzarella cheeses over an assortment of crisp greens, arugula and a tart raspberry vinaigrette. Among the soups, the corn chowder was a winner with redskins, ripe, sweet tomatoes and turkey in a savory, buttery white broth -- delectable. Among the sides, the three-bean salad with waxed, green and kidney beans in sweet vinegar sauce complemented the main course nicely. Chops has some wrinkles such as the old-school, cash-and-check only policy that can be annoying, and given the appeal of the place to a surprisingly diverse crowd, the menu could use some additional vegetarian and vegan options. A fresh dessert selection would also be a nice addition, especially if made with the local-food emphasis and attention given to everything else. What separates Chops from other downtown eateries, though, isn't the product so much as the love. Almost every item has been carefully reimagined from its usual edition, creating a strange paradox -- deli food, which is often thought of as interchangeable, that one can only associate with Chops. Because of the prevalence of lean meats, the absence of a deep-fryer and the ability to tailor any menu order to dietary taste, Chops even gets coveted bonus points for healthy eating options.
(5)Melissa V.
Went there because of a recommendation from a friend. It was the first time and definitely a repeat! I had the Malmö which was amazing and one I'd definitely get again. You'd need to come back and try everything in the menus at least once. The mint sweet tea was perfect also!!
(5)Richard D.
If you want a deli sammich... this is heaven. Their cornbeef is superb their prosciuttini & ham is miraculous and their cole slaw is to die for. If you want a deli sammich eat here but get in before the horrid lunch line gets too long. People have died waiting in that line.
(5)John R.
If you're in Wilmington this is a MUST stop. We had lunch here during a vacation trip. The staff was so helpful. Even the owner came to our table to check on us a few times. The food was so good. We had a variety of sandwiches and salads. Every thing was so tasty. Great portions too.
(5)Chris W.
Love there sandwiches. Quick, friendly and delicious. Locally owned and operatede. Menu has many different selections you will find something you'll love
(4)Nikki W.
Great local atmosphere and fast service for the large lunch crowd. Went with my family and they all really enjoyed their sandwiches! Only downfall would be that I'm a vegetarian and their options were rather slim. The Veggie Wrap fell a little flat.
(4)Erica R.
I found this place thanks to the "Nearby" function in the Yelp app - and couldn't help but try it out thanks to the awesome reviews. And can I say... I was NOT disappointed! :D After many "blah" experiences in/around Wilmington, Chop's Deli was an absolute delight. The people working there are totally friendly, the service is great, the food is delicious, the space is casual and welcoming, and I just REALLY enjoyed my visit here. If I lived anywhere around Wilmington? I'd be at this place all the time. Chop's is still going to be at the top of my list for visiting when I return to the Carolina Beach / Wilmington area. I would totally recommend the La Plata, for what it's worth. Super delicious sandwich. I was also stoked to see that they had Manhattan Clam Chowder on the menu (along with the more known option of New England Clam Chowder). I'm a sucker for a good Manhattan Clam Chowder, so you know what I'll be ordering the next time I get to visit this awesome place. Random side note? My grandmother and I finished up our meals and were chatting at our table when someone from the deli staff came over to ask us how everything was. We raved about the food, and then the man asked if he could take our trays for us. I was surprised, but both my grandmother and I were super appreciative of the sweet gesture. It wasn't until we were both leaving the deli that I turned around to look at the building and noticed that the man who offered to take our trays was the owner, Chops. :) It made me smile to realize that he was so conscious of his patrons, making sure they liked their food and had an awesome experience at the deli. TL;DR This place is awesome. 10/10...would recommend to anyone and will definitely be back to try other items on the menu. Also? Chops is the man.
(5)Jim N.
Eat here. There really is no better place in town for lunch. Great friendly staff and even better food.
(5)Shreyas J.
One of the best deli places I have ever been to. You know this place different when they serve water in opaque glass and soda in clear glass!! Local artist paintings on the wall, daily specials and menu on the old school black board, overall a great hipster vibe for deli joint. No matter what sandwich you order, bread is very fresh, soft and delicious which makes all the difference between a good sandwich and a great s sandwich!! A small word of caution... You might sit next to a big biker gang high on pot wearing skulls on their jackets :D :D ..
(5)Bnner M.
I usually go for the most sexual sounding item on the menu, & the Sloppy Chops did it for me. The slow cooked pulled pork w/ muenster cheese did me in. It's a good eat
(4)Heather N.
Great sandwiches. The staff was all friendly and helpful. I would recommend this to anyone interested in a light lunch.
(5)Amanda M.
My dad and I stopped in on an afternoon visit to Wilmington. We split the Palermo with deli mustard and the Ruben. I think the Palermo may very well have been the best sandwich I have ever eaten. Layers of Italian meats sandwiched a perfectly dressed salad and banana pepper, all grilled to melty, crunchy perfection. Thanks for a delectable lunch, Chops! We will definitely be back!
(5)Katie F.
After a long day of sight seeing it was time to eat. Looked up places on Yelp and found Chop's Deli. The food was delicious. Everyone there was so nice. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Wilmington.
(5)Amber A.
absolutely wonderful! better than any chain sandwich shop by far. the Malmo is my favorite. I used to go for lunch all the time during school. just a short walk from cape fear. love the service and the food! always take my friends in town to visit chops!
(5)W.A R.
Amazing sandwiches and speedy service. They even have delicious teas you can take out into the heat with you if are in the mood for something sweet.
(5)David C.
If you come to Wilmington and don't go the Chop's, your trip was a waste and time and you should be ashamed of yourself. What a place. Everything we had, party of 6, was creative and impressive. Great atmosphere and better food.
(5)Ryan S.
Gotta check it out! Great sandwiches with unique ingredients. Had the inside been a little cleaner I probably would have given it five stars, a great sandwich without a doubt though.
(4)Kobi B.
The Monaco sandwich was possibly the best sandwich I ever had. How great to find a local spot with amazing food, cool local art and an owner who still greets each patron like an old friend. My teen daughter agreed. Wonderful spot. We can't wait to try the rest of the menu.
(5)Mary-Kate I.
Chop's has the best sandwiches in town. You can tell the owner really spent some time on this menu and each sandwich tastes like something from a dream. The are often messy and require two hands but that only goes to enhance the experience! They have an impressive selection of breads and ever-enticing daily specials. I find myself craving Chops every time I pass by. It is a little pricey but well worth it when you can swing it!
(5)Brett J.
I ate with a group of 10 and everything was delicious. The Wilmington sandwich is perfect.
(5)Rachel A.
Took a day trip to Wilmington and tripped over this gem. Or, more accurately, walked right by and didn't even notice it until I opened up Yelp looking for a lunch spot. It definitely doesn't have too much curb appeal, but damn do they make some tasty sandwiches. I tried the Monaco -- lemon pepper chicken, mozzarella, spring mix, tomato, homemade tomato pesto, on a grilled flatbread, and it definitely ranked in the top five sandwiches I've ever had. It was phenomenal. I also tried their zesty turkey and rice soup, and was extremely impressed. The flavors in the sandwiches and soups are on another level compared to your standard sandwich shop. I would be totally comfortable paying double the price for the exact same food served at a fine dining establishment. I was also impressed by the staff working there. The man that took my order was very kind and friendly, and while we were sitting the owner (maybe the general manager?) stopped by and made sure we were having a great experience. Unusual, and most appreciated. My only critique (and that's only because no one can be perfect) is probably the decor. It's a pretty dated look with heavily patterned carpet that clashes a bit with the green plastic seats on the wooden chairs, but if you're looking for great food and no fuss, this is the place to be.

Love Chop's Deli! Always delicious. I've only ever had their sandwiches, but they have yet to fail me. The Malmo (Homemade Pimento Cheese, Black Forest Ham, Maple Glazed Chicken, Tomato, Red Onion and Homemade Cajun Remoulade on Multigrain) is probably my favorite. But you can't go wrong with the Marseille (Maple Glazed Chicken, French Brie, Spring Mix, Tomatoes and Cajun Remoulade, on a French Baguette) or the Palermo (Prosciuttini, Ham, Salami, Mozzarella, Spring Mix, Tomato, Red Onion, Banana Peppers and Deli Dressing on Country White).
(5)Jakk N.
A lot of tasty sounding choices. I went with the Constantinople, and it was delicious. A bit pricey, but the quality speaks for itself.
(4)Jenny T.
Very good, I had the LaPlata and it was delish. If you go there you must try the Mac n cheese. It has that come back appeal.
(4)Jessica K.
Unbelievably good! Fresh, tasty, and unique. Friendly employees and an artsy fun atmosphere. This will become a tradition each time we stay in Wilmington. I'm a vegetarian so I get the veggie wrap and it's delicious. My family and I couldn't get enough this week :)
(5)Caleb S.
I eat here for lunch at least once a week. Delicious and creative sandwiches, and they are incredibly consistent. For an everyday affordable and quick lunch, this is your place.
(4)Zach P.
I randomly stopped in for lunch, and I was really happy I did. The environment was fun; the service was incredible; and the food was delicious. I will be coming back whenever I am in Wilmington.
(5)Kylie E.
Located in downtown Wilmington and just a quick walk from the riverfront, we dined here wanting something quick and good. I checked the reviews and everyone seemed to be pleased with the wide variety and selection they offered. I ordered the LaPlata after seeing another users photo and I will have to say I was quite disappointed; not in the amount of flavor because that was not lacking however it was in the portion. My sandwich was very thin in comparison to the photo one other patron uploaded to this site. Maybe 3 pieces of ham and I had to search for the bacon because at first I thought I got the wrong order. It was very tasty but like I said not what they have apparently served before. I will consider going back and maybe trying something else with a few more items to maybe fill me up a little more. For around $9, the thin sandwich, pickle spear and bag of chips didn't quite do it for me, I expected a little more. My son ordered the PB&J and also, like I said, not much there either and it was $6 and none of the orders came with drinks, those were all extra $. My boyfriend ordered The Wilmington, which is s BBQ sandwich with slaw. He really liked it and I tasted it and liked it also. I will go somewhere and not worry about spending money on good food but this place was just not enough for me. I'd give it another shot and give another honest review the next time I'm in the area.
(3)Jeri T.
In town on business and Yelp said GO. So I did. I felt like I was right at home (I'm from Austin) for atmosphere. The first and last bites of my grilled cheese were all bread. The cheese needs to be cranked up a notch to be called 3X cheese. Boy was it crowded so I'm sure next time I come and try a different sandwich, my rating will change.
(3)Kevin D.
Found this place by chance; outstanding sandwich selection; great vibe; they even cut the crust off my little guy's PB&J! Highly recommended....
(5)C H.
Super fresh, inspired, and original menu. Came in on Mother's Day, after walking around the historic area. Just what we were looking for- something casual, quick, but fresh, unique, and delicious. The menu was current and refreshing. Kinda seemed like it would fit in somewhere like Venice, CA. The Reuben was my parents pick... The beef, muenster cheese, and creamy horseradish spread on grilled rye was elevated above a normal Reuben. I had a fresh salad... more than your usual selection of vegetables.. It had fresh mushrooms, carrots, cucumber, peppers, etc. Great soup selection, I'll try on another visit. And some really interesting but fun sounding deserts- bacon cheesecake? And a basil berry something or other. Maybe food network ddd needs to come hang out here. They seem to really be trying to elevate the deli experience. And I appreciate it!
(5)Kevin M.
We enjoyed their sandwiches: the Jackson (turkey) and Monaco (chicken). The service is about 10 minutes when busy, and the ambiance is moderately noisy. They have some interesting local art on the walls too.
(4)Robin B.
In a word, holy-crap-this-place-is-awesome. Great sandwiches to order. Even with the crowd thing move along quickly, and the food is delicious. Their take on a reuben was a refreshing departure from the usual. If only it was closer to home...
(4)Ian Maren C.
The tomato clam chowder was outstanding and we highly recommend it. Awesome selection of sandwiches, great detail. The sandwich was amazing. Service was great, place was very clean and quick made to order sandwiches. Highly recommend for lunch.
(5)Matt W.
Had the tripoli today. Holy shit. That's all, just holy shit. Please more. This freakin thing had a nice horseradish sauce on it that just snapped up your taste buds. The meat was plentiful and I will definitely be ordering this sucker again.
(5)Sarah J.
My husband and I visited Wilmington from St. Louis, MO. Some of our good friends are natives to the area and suggested we check out Chops (FYI in this case: chops is a nickname for sideburns and not steak...) The deli is in the downtown district and has a trendy, urban yet cozy feel. I get the impression that there are lots of regulars. Our lunch was fantastic -- for $9.50 I got a massive rare roast need sandwich with melted Brie cheese and peppercorn creamy sauce. It was filling and tasty! My meal also came with chips. They have an assortment of house-made beverages including mint sweet tea, squeezed orange juice, lemony lemonade and sodas. My husband LOVED his sandwich. I can't remember what all was on it other than pepper jelly... But HIGHLY recommend. Bottom line: will we go back? If we ever have the privilege of being back in Wilmington, we will most definitely dine at Chops!!
(5)J G.
Here in Wilmington for a work conference. Decided to stop at Chop's for a sandwich - walking distance from my hotel and had excellent reviews! It was pretty yummy. I had a 3x3 grilled cheese and added bacon and the pastrami and corned beef macaroni and cheese. The macaroni was pretty good (could have been a little cheesier, in my opinion) but the sandwich was delicious! It was doubled layered with 3 slices of bread. The guys working the counter were very friendly and had recommendations ready right away for my coworker. The sandwiches were also out very quickly. I only had water but I saw they have a mint infused sweet tea. If we make it back here this week while in town, I plan to try it.
(4)Erin S.
So good! Got the special of the day- the Newcastle Sandwich. Amazing sandwich, fresh and delicious. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. It was definitely worth a bit of a drive to try a sandwich here. Will definitely be returning soon!
(5)Christina H.
I love the local feel of this place! They had a large variety of items on the menu and all the sandwiches seemed very unique. The sandwiches would be what I call a Man-wich. I ordered the Tripoli and it had a ton of meat on it, roast beef and reuben and a lot of other good stuff! It was perfectly toasted and me and my friend were both very pleased.
(5)Dany F.
Awesome sandwiches. Great mint tea and mango. Visit this shop whenever we're in Wilmington. Had the Marseille and Jackson. Delicious!
(5)Jeremy B.
Obviously I don't need to go too in-depth because the 5-star rating speaks for itself. Was downtown today with my roommates and they decided to go to Trolly Stop. Since I'm on a diet and Chop's is across the street, I stopped there to get a salad to go. The vibe in Chop's is totally awesome and all of the staff are friendly and clearly enjoy being at work and working at Chop's. Each and every sandwich that came out looked like a handcrafted piece of art. Despite being on said diet, they have a great selection of salads. I got the Chop's Salad and it did not disappoint at all. The veggies were all crisp and fresh and the meats and cheese were terrific and complimented each other. I'll definitely be back to Chop's to get salads and can't wait to have a cheat-day so I can have one of those scrumptious sandwiches.
(5)Mayra D.
Amazing food, dog friendly, great staff. Loved the Ruben with slaw! Walked all over for something great to to eat this was it.
(4)Eugene B.
I had the Plymouth and my dad had the Wilmington. Mine was delicious and he ate his pretty much hoovered his so I'd say he liked it.
(4)Mel N.
Gluten-free friendly! The owner was super friendly too (we assumed he was the owner because he looks like the guy on the sign)! He seems excited about coming up with new concoctions. Their sauces are awesome, especially the tomato pesto!
(5)Alan C.
Given the average review, detailed response is not needed. The "Chicago" is awesome. If you are hungry, kinda-full or just have a craving, eat here or whatever Chop's is nearest you.
(5)Eric M.
First off this place is awesome. So we stopped in on 4 July and had a couple sandwiches that were to die for and was able to grab a cool beverage. I would recommend anybody in the downtown area to stop in. By the way the owner chops is a great Guy to come over and thank you for your business and to make sure your food is how you would like. So stop reading this review and go to chops deli you can thank me later.
(5)Lauren C.
Awesome deli sandwiches! I got the Bordeaux which was delicious and my husband got the Constantinople which he really enjoyed as well. Lots of sandwiches to choose from and seating inside and outside. Kid friendly as well. Hospitality was top notch, with personal greetings and goodbye from the owner. Will definitely be back and highly recommend!!
(5)Katie H.
This place is awesome. The sandwiches are huge. You can tell how fresh the ingredients are. The staff is very friendly. I think we even spoke to the owner (he had the big sideburns like the Chops logo). He was super nice and down to earth (he even held the gabage can open for us!) This is definitely going to be on my list of must stops while in Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach area!
(5)Lindsay G.
This one the best quality restaurants in Wilmington! And serves one of the best sandwiches I've EVER had. There is every type of sandwich you could ever put together. The menu is very creative. My favorite is the Monaco! The sun-dried tomato pesto aioli is out of this world. Also, their Orange lemonade is sooo tasty. Highly recommend trying this delicious place. The staff is helpful and super friendly. Can't beat it!
(5)Laura E.
Food is amazing! Cleanliness of the place is much to be desired. Floors look look like they haven't been cleaned since they opened. Bathroom is not clean. Floors are very gross. Needs a fresh coat of paint. I ordered the Plymouth and it was very very good.
(4)Bruce S.
This is where you get the best sandwiches in Wilmington. There's usually a long line because the food is so good. If you want to get the best sandwiches in Wilmington go to chops deli
(5)Michael L.
The sandwich itself wasn't bad but it really wasn't worth the price. I really thought the portion would be bigger from what I was told but in the end I was satisfied when I left. Plenty of tables to sit and eat although it does get really busy during lunch. The line got so long that it made it difficult to throw away my trash and leave but not to big of a deal. Service was slow though and that didn't help matters. I don't think I would go here again just because the value just isnt there. If there was more meat on my sandwich and more toppings (barely any slaw on my Manhattan) I would reconsider but for now I think I will stick with Sub Stop.
(3)Susan R.
My sandwich was delicious and my two friends really loved theirs as well. Staff was kind and helpful!!
(5)Carol S.
This place is no frills but so good. Our party of 4 all had the Wilmington and it was, by far, the best Carolina BBQ sandwich I've ever had. It is huge-you may want to use a fork and knife to tackle it. The bun was delicious and the cole slaw was perfect. Also, be sure to try the sweet mint tea.
(4)Jess D.
Best place to get an awesome sandwich in Wilmington! I always get the Jackson, And my husband loves the Mac & cheese. Now they have several locations in town. The staff and owner are great! I always recommend this place to anyone new to Wilmington or visiting.
(5)Yolanda M.
First time in nc... saw the reviews this place has and had to try it! Definitely lives up to its great reviews! Great food and atmosphere. We even met chops himself who was so Nice :) highly recommend this place!
(5)Jessica G.
We loved this little sandwich joint! Every sandwich we ordered was delicious. The staff was so friendly. Just can't say enough about this little gem in historic Wilmington. We hope to come back and will be stopping here again for sure.
(5)Morgan G.
You have to come HERE!! Locally owned and operated the man is the picture is wonderful!! He is the owner or the operator all I know is when I went on for the first time ordered two sand-wiches and drinks the lemonade is fresh and fantastic by the way! As I am filling up my drink and very warm smile walks up and says good afternoon, how are you? I look at him and say wow you look just like the man in the picture! Oh way you are!! You can tell by his chops! HA we talked for a few mins he asked what I ordered and he said I made a great choice they are some of his favorites he later stops by just to see how everything was and really cared! Everything was divine. They sell all boars head meat and its the best of the best they cut it up fresh there! You can also buy the meat and cheese by the lbs.. Its cheaper the the grocery store which I found really cool! Only thing that was a little odd was the counter girl is a vegetarian so when you ask about what her recommendation was she couldn't help.. So instead of saying well most people order this... I had to then ask what is popular? Its my first time was looking for a recommendation she was no help. She was the only issue all the other staff was great she had a attitude maybe just a bad day. Wont stop me from coming in!
(5)Louisa E.
Pretty yummy. I had the Monaco which was extra delicious because the "tomato pesto" turned out to be a tomato-ey mayonnaise! Can't complain about more mayo. Only downsides: I think the sandwiches (or my sandwich at least) are a bit too pricy, and also there were a lot of flies flying around.
(4)Rebecca B.
Great sandwiches! Lots of variety and combinations I've never heard of! The sandwiches were delicious and so was the bread! Servers were very friendly. If I lived in the area I'd definitely come often to try all their different selections!!
(5)Christina A.
Great place! A true upscale deli... Good food, nice staff, comfy environment.
(5)Rob H.
Absolutely fantastic sandwiches. Tried the Tripoli and the Plymouth. Both were fantastic. The Tripoli is perfect if you are a meat lover and want a monster of a sandwich, the Plymouth was one of the most unique sandwiches I've ever had. It was the perfect balance of sweet and salty. Definitely give this place a shot.
(5)Christina M.
We stopped in here during our quick day trip to Wilmington. Boy are we glad that we did! This place is a gem and a can't miss lunch spot (or dinner, if you'd prefer!) Sandwiches are my favorite food and so I was excited to see a good deli in the historic downtown area. We ordered the Chicago and the Plymouth, both of which were excellent! The flavors and the meat were a great combination and the sandwich was built perfectly. Wish we had one of these in CA!
(5)Jesse R.
I wanted to give this 5 but just couldn't do it, was a cool little place and it was good but not perfect. They serve boars head which is quality meat but also means it's basically the same anywhere it's served, I got the Palermo which is their cold cut Italian style sandwich. It was very good, bread and veggies were fresh and did have a nice portion of meat, no real complaints, my side was pasta salad, it's was good but the raw broccoli In salad was dry and had no dressing or seasoning on it. My girlfriend got the Amsterdam I believe it was called, it's the pot roast sandwich and she said is was perfect. We shared a pastrami and corned beef Mac and cheese, it was very good and had a lot of meat in it, could of been a little more creamy or something small was missing but was very good. Just didn't feel like a 5 star experience to me but it was good and I would go back.
(4)parker h.
Sandwich's are ok but the fly's are intense. I'm talking inside not the outside tables. Reminded me of a college late night place rather than the deli folks had written about. A a shame a fly strip or two would have increased the experience.
(2)J T.
Definitely coming back here the next time we are in Wilmington. I got the Marseilles and it was delicious. So many flavors going on, a little vinegar, a little spice from the Cajun ramoulade sauce, tempered with a generous amount of brie and lettuce. Loved it. Sandwiches come with your choice of chips.
(5)Matt N.
Wow the Malmo and their Mac n cheese is the best sandwich and side I have ever had...I just want to sit here for a few hrs just to get hungry again...
(5)Josiah H.
Incredible sandwiches and a great atmosphere, there is local art on the wall for sale and a good hipster vibe going for it and great hole in the wall to visit and eat at when in Wilmington... Food is very good but you pay for it.
(5)Ani C.
This place had such delicious sandwiches! I bet their entire menu would not disappoint. Its a very noisy atmosphere when its really busy. Sometimes it can be difficult to find a seat. I liked the fact that there were no plates, just paper on trays (they must be busy.)
(5)Jovana F.
We felt at home from the moment we walked in. The staff was very personable and helped us make the hard choice. Everything on the menu looked amazing and we had the option of changing any of the ingredients we wanted. Our food was delicious! We will definitely return.
(5)Stephanie S.
We went to Chop's Deli based on reviews alone and weren't disappointed. Everyone tried a different sandwich but the two favorites were the Monaco (chicken) and the Plymouth (turkey). I like that there were not only tons of sandwich options but soup and sides galore. The line also goes very quickly - we didn't have to wait very long. We also ordered ten sandwiches to go and they were quite quick! Definitely one of my favorite delis in the U.S. now.
(5)Cathy G.
If you want a GREAT sandwich, Chop's Deli is the place to be! This is my go-to place when I want a sandwich piled high! The food is made to order and Delicious! You can sit inside or outside on a nice sunny day! Friendly staff, clean and great food! You can't go wrong!
(5)Myles M.
I turned to Yelp to find a place to eat lunch near Wilmington airport. All of the five star reviews about Chop's Deli were absolutely right. The food was awesome and the Staff is extremely friendly. Thank you Bob!
(5)Oscar L.
Go here now- get a Plymouth or a Malmo and be very happy for the rest of the day. Some of the best sandwiches in Wilmington!
(5)Lawson R.
So many great things to say about this deli. Entering the deli you are immediately greeted by friendly staff and a large menu on the wall. The staff was happy to answer my questions about the sandwiches they offered. I got the Tripoli sandwich, which is easily one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. One of my friends enjoyed his sandwich so much that he went and got a second one! Along with the amazing sandwiches, their cups were compostable and made from recycled material. Overall, this is an amazing deli that deserves your attention when visiting Wilmington.
(5)Lauren M.
Found this place when I looked for a good lunch restaurant to eat at when we headed down to Wilmington for the Beach 2 Battleship Half Ironman. It was right on the main strip and close to the convention center, where we needed to be. The sandwiches were DELICIOUS. Boars head meat is always a winner, and the sauces really make it. They were so good, we ended up heading back there after the race to grab them again! I had the Marseille without cheese. A friend of mine had the Plymouth and said it was like Thanksgiving in a sandwich. The owner was there the first time, cleaning the tables and made a point to ask us how the food was and why we were there. Definitely a small town feel in the best possible way. I highly recommend popping in and grabbing a bite if you are visiting the town.
(5)Meshea T.
Wow! Visited Wilmington this summer and tried Chops, we went back again the next day! I had the Plymouth and the Malmo, both were great! :) unique sandwich choices, high quality ingredients! My husband can be a little picky, when he asked if he could have a sandwich that wasn't on the menu the guy gave him a fist bump and said "you got it!" :) Great food, friendly staff!
(5)Brian H.
Had lunch with a friend here last week. . I see why people live this place. The sandwich was one of few that actually melted in my mouth. In an area where there are so many dining choices this definitely stands out as a gem.
(5)Shannon L.
I have been coming here for four years and I have enjoyed everything I've eaten! After you go a few times don't be surprised if they remember your name, or give you an umbrella on a rainy day. Try any of their sandwiches (my favorite is the Chicago) you will never be disappointed :) Their Chopped Salad is very tasty as well.
(5)Charlie F.
This the best deli in North Carolina. They're using the right combinations of fresh bread, quality cheese, homemade cole slaws, and mayonnaise. Its hard to pinpoint what the exact strength is of Chops, since they aren't a self proclaimed "Italian deli" or "Jewish deli," but, rather, do their own hodgepodge of specialty sandwiches. They're all quite good. It breaks my heart not to give Chop's a 5, since really they deserve it for making this killer sandwiches. I think that they have room to improve. The most obvious area for improvement stems from their main selling point, that all the meat comes from Boar's Head. I agree that Boar's Head provides nice stuff, but it not as good as, for instance, a house made chicken cutlet or roasted pork loin. This is true also for cheese. Is there a local cheese producer that is better than Boar's Head? Probably. Is there such a thing as homemade mozzarella cheese in NC? And bread. Its true that Chop's has great rye bread (the best I have found in NC), but what about other interesting types of bread like a Focaccia, baguettes, or flatbread? There are millions of possibilities in the sandwich world that build on having interesting components. If Chop's expands its repertoire to involve more homemade or specially procured components, they could break into the truly elite class of 5 star delis that includes the NY/NJ area greats like the Millburn Deli in New Jersey or Defonte's of Brooklyn.
(4)Jessica V.
First thing's first, be prepared to stand in line. Secondly, but most importantly, be prepared to be completely satiated! Chops offer a variety of hearty, meaty, fresh sandwiches, salads and soups galore. Along with their extensive list of sandwiches there is a daily special that includes a side and a drink for under $10. That's a steal. Being the queen of good deals, I went with the special. I can't remember all the details of the sandwich, but I do remember the jalapeno mayo, the lovely spring mix, and the freshly shaved turkey! It makes me hungry just thinking about it. They also have a lovely mint brewed tea that is absolutely delicious and refreshing on a warm day. I've even went as far as trying to replicate it at home, but nothing compares... nothing compares to youuuu (Chops).
(5)Chelsea B.
New favorite place in town! Sandwiches are out of this world! The owner was working the register and he was very helpful and friendly. You order your food, grab a table, wait only about 4 minutes and you get your food! Sandwiches were filling and flavorful. The owner came around and asked everyone on the restaurant how everything was. Someone cleared our plates for us. Atmosphere is a little mismatchy but it just adds to the charm. HIGHLY recommend.
(5)Jay J.
A great deli style restaurant located in downtown/Riverfront area of Wilmington. I stopped by for a quick lunch between business meetings and I was very pleased with the service and food. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. The club wrap was definitely worth the try!
(5)Laura F.
Very good sandwiches. Today was my first day at this location (I have only been to the monkey junction location previously). It says on here they're closed Sundays but they were open today at least. Service was pretty quick and the reuben I ordered was delicious. $9 for a sandwich and chips.
(4)Bridgette G.
This is everything other reviewers said. And more!!! Every sandwich was top notch and everyone was stuffed! The owner circulated and was so pleasant and welcoming. My husband flipped over the homemade cheesecake. We sampled three flavors. For 3 sandwiches and 2 kids meals it was about $44 (not including dessert). Everything was worth every cent! My husband got the Malmo, I got the Monaco. But I don't think you can go wrong in this place, seriously.
(5)Robert M.
Great food was little smokey inside not sure why. The food was fast well prepared and had great taste.. Great for a quick lunch.
(5)Hugh B.
Awesome New England clam chowder.
(5)Kay B.
SO YUMMMY. Best food ever! My fav place to go downtown by far! Would def recommend!
(5)Missy H.
I read several rave reviews and decided to try out Chop's Deli. It was everything I hoped for and more. I had the Malmo and will probably dream about it until I can eat it again. If I ever get enough I will try some of the other choices that look equally good. I'll be going back soon.
(5)Naomi K.
Delicious sandwiches... ridiculously huge portions. Make sure to order a sub with someone to split because its an unhealthy to gorge oneself on a full one. They take your order at the counter and it's fun to watch them slide the slip down the clothes line to the kitchen. It's pricey, but large portioned. Homemade lemonade was a bust. Skip that and go for a fountain or bottled drink instead. The Marseille was pretty tasty and not too spicy. Glad they use Boar's head meats. It seems like a quality deli. You just have to be in the mood for a large sandwich.
(3)Azi P.
What a disappointment!! I went here after reading the reviews from Yelp so I had high hopes. The prices are way too high for what you get. It's an average deli, nothing special. Also don't get any of the salads, they are not fresh at all!!
(2)J K.
Whoh! Awesome and unique panini sandwiches you won't find anywhere else. The service is unusually old fashioned, polite, and American. Great bunch of guys! You must eat here. My only complaint is the price per meal is a tad above average, but I still give it an overall 5 of 5 stars. Bon ape'MEAT!
(5)Michele S.
Chops is by far the best lunch restaurant in Wilmington! They know how to provide a great atmosphere, great customer service, and the BEST sandwich, soup, mac, in Wilmington, NC! I have tried almost all of the sandwiches on the menu, they are all excellent! My favorite has to be "The WIlmington" which is pulled pork, slaw, on a kiser roll! The atmosphere makes Chops equally as good! I love the artistic and local approach that Chops takes. I most especially love how they make you feel special when you order your sandwich. The same people are always working there, and that to me says A LOT about a place, its culture, and owner.
(5)John L.
Great sandwiches, large portions with Boars Head meat and good bread. Try the mc and cheese.
(4)Ashley H.
Chops is an amazing sandwich place in downtown Wilmington and you can tell by the wait at lunch but totally worth it! The Marseille and Chicago are my favorites and the boars head meat is always fresh. One of the best lunch spots downtown.
(5)Jess C.
So good! Just do it! My favorite is La Plata... I'll eat one half for lunch, then have the other half later, for dinner, the next day, whenever, ha. Always consistent, delicious, and friendly!
(5)J.D. M.
Really liked the Constantinople $9.75. Very cool spot, staff was very helpful while we were looking at the menu.
(5)Kevin M.
Had the Constantinople and WOW was it good. You know a place is good when the line to get in stays constant the whole time your there
(5)Rico R.
I regret only having time to try 2 sandwiches. The 3x3 grilled cheese and Palermo were both amazing. Love this place! You can tell they take pride the menu and food they serve.
(5)Justin W.
It is what it's cracked up to be. Great ingredients and the BB-Q is delicious and they pile it high. The hipster dude in the kitchen even wore a cover over his beard so you know there isn't any hair on your sandwich.
(5)Kristi E.
If I could add a star I would! Seriously the best deli! I tried 6 different sandwiches today ( we all shared) Everyone of them were AMAZING!!! My favorites were the Manhattan, the Monaco, & the Wilmington! When we come back to Wilmington we will go here again!! Loved it!! We tried the place based the yelp reviews! Loved everything about it would not change a thing!
(5)Lee G.
We found this on Yelp and decided to try it. The sandwiche choices were fantastic, all a little different than you usually find. The food was extremely fresh and the sandwiches were more than I was able to finish. (They provide take home containers). This was probably one of the best sandwiches I have had and I can't wait to go back to try some of the others.
(5)Christina D.
Best sandwiches in town, with such a great staff and atmosphere! If you live or visit Wilmington and have never been to Chop's, you must change that. Immediately. In fact. Do it now.
(5)Jennifer O.
I never get daring at restaurants and try new things...I've had MANY sandwiches from here since one is better than the next!! My favorite is the Marseilles. Delicious. Fresh. The best remoulades!
(5)Jim N.
Great stuff. Had the Marseille. GF had the Tripoli and we split each sandwich. So good.
(5)Angela D.
The Mac n cheese was as cold as the employees attitudes. A kid sat on his phone the whole time I ordered. Way too over priced for children's menu and the fruit was rotten. Not going back.
(1)Jason H.
Family and I visited today. My sandwich (the Malmo) was the bomb. Copying from their menu - Homemade Pimento Cheese, Black Forest Ham, Maple Glazed Chicken, Tomato, Red Onion and Homemade Cajun Remoulade on Multigrain. An explosion of great flavors. My wife really enjoyed the Manhattan and my eldest scarfed down the Amsterdam. The owner stopped by and was super nice. Props to the Yelp community for helping us find this gem.
(5)J E N N P.
All I can say is CONSTANTINOPLE! It is the go to sammie you will crave after having it for the first time. If you haven't tried it you should... and if you have, you know what I'm talking about. The hubbie and I just shared this amazing sandwich along with some yummy tomato, basil, bacon, bleu cheese soup and delish ham mac and cheese. We are now in a bit of a food coma and loving every second of it. This is by far the best deli in Wilmington... perhaps anywhere. The service is fast, and super nice peeps! Be sure to stop in and taste why they get such amazing props.
(5)Trupti T.
I will have to thank all the yelpers for this wonderful place. It was their reviews that made us choose this place. The place is your normal deli looking place, however the people who work there are so friendly. I mean the person who took our ordered talked and was so excited to tell us about the menu offerings they had. Was spot on with the suggestions in regards to what we were looking for. I do enjoy a good turkey sandwich, but this place by far has the best turkey sandwich that I have eaten. I would drive there (which is about a hour and half from my place) just to get that sandwich. A friend of mine got the chicken sandwich there and it was equally good. I saved half of my sandwich and ate it bite by bite throughout the day so I could enjoy it longer. A great place to eat and the people are so friendly, it is local eats like these that make traveling and eating out so much joy. Highly recommend this place.

One of my favorite places in the world. Introduced to me by my boyfriend, I get the Constantinople every time I go. A bit pricey for a sandwich but it's so worth it in the end.

I've gorged on Chop's Deli sandwiches 3 times, once via carry-out. No disappointments. Food: Authentic deli-style sandwiches and sides that slay. Nothing boring or obvious, nothing mediocre, nothing stale. Creative twists to classic favorites. Atmosphere: Who needs chic decor or hipster-terrible wall art when you've got bustling enthusiasm and solid quality food? Cost/Quality Ratio: Worth every penny. You won't be disappointed by: The mac and cheese (ask & take suggestions), or the take out service. Calling this place is supremely pleasant. The man who answered my phone calls was incredibly knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and in the mood to make a sandwich. I felt...special. That's pretty impressive. As a bonus: This business is locally owned.

My boyfriend thinks I hate sandwiches. This simply isn't true. I hate boring sandwiches. I reject the idea that all you need to make a meal is bread, meat and mayo. Thanks to Chop's I now have shining proof that when the sandwich is good, I'll shove it down my throat, smiling the whole time. Chop's sandwiches aren't just good, they're great. The combinations of ingredients and bread are spot on, and they're happy to tweak things just to make them even more perfect. I've had the Monaco, the Bordeaux and the club wrap, and all have been extremely delicious. The only problem I could ever have with them is that my little stomach cannot fit a whole Chop's sandwich. As problems go, thats not a big one. However, on those occasions where I don't want to be completely stuffed on sandwich, I'll get the mac and cheese instead. They make a different variety every day, and believe me, Im not kidding when I say Im going to eventually try them all. Whatever you get at Chop's you are going to love it. However, trying the orangeade is mandatory.

Chop's is a hipster-ish deli with pretty good sandwiches and a fun atmosphere. Seems like a good place to go if you have the munchies. They pile on meat and toppings, but the bread isn't sturdy enough to hold everything and the sandwich kind of overflows. One thing I look at when going out to eat is value. I don't think Chop's is a particularly good value. I just didn't think the sandwich justified spending $9. I got the Malmo sandwich and it was a good sandwich but not the 'best sandwich I've ever had' type of thing that I read in previous reviews. The sandwiches come with a pickle and chips. One thing I did have that I would definitely recommend was the Mint Iced Tea. The location of Chop's is great, right in downtown Wilmington within walking distance to everything the city has to offer.

Amazing! Most sandwich places are 'ok,' but this place is THE BEST! I go here as much as I can and I love the 'Chicago' sandwich. The Mac n cheese is really good too. The people here are incredibly friendly and I love this place.

Great deli in downtown Wilmington. Split a couple of different sandwiches which were all delicious. Strongly recommend if you're driving by - it's right off the highway.

What more is there to say that already hasn't been posted in the reviews? Food was excellent. First time customer. I had the Chicago and was probably the best sandwhich I have had in a long time. Drink, chips and pickle slice included. Great place to eat if you find yourself in downtown wilmington!

Wonderful sandwiches, well worth the drive from myrtle beach. Cute little town with lots of shops to walk to.
