The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. This random, little Carolina town is hosting a molto bene Italian tattoria. Cute decor, very cozy and welcoming. The brick over pizza is always a good sign that the food will not disappoint. This family owned restaurant from 3 or 4 brothers from Jersey can really serve up some good food and laughs. On a cold and rainy night, I stopped in to grab something to warm me up! My friend and I sat at the pizza bar. We had a fun chat with one of the owners since they were about to close the restaurant and it wasn't too busy! I ordered a hefty portion of pasta. How delish! My Alfredo pasta wasn't light on calories or flavor. I can't remember the name of what I got, but it was filled with shrimp and mushrooms. Brittany had an amazing panini. Pellegrino's had my heart at the homemade focaccia bread and pesto, damn I was happy. After layering on some more calories I ordered their chocolate cake. That cake is good enough to fast for days just so you could indulge and grab a HUGE slice of this triple layer chocolate piece of heaven!

Pellegrino's Trattoria we go there at least once every 2 weeks for a pizza pie great home made cheese cake that is to die for when you can get it we will continue to pick up our favorite pizza here and calamari to treat ourselves for movie night we have had most of what is on the menu and so far have had nothing we did not like that was not tasty and hot

Best Italian Food Ever! Josh took care of us. We had a GREAT MEAL and GREAT SERVICE. Only thing Ill say is they need to keep it dimmer in there. It was like Golden Corral at first with the lights but fast to accomodate making it lovely and the ambiance was awesome. Three hrothers rock this place! Highly recommended!

The staff needs to work on their people skills. I don't care who the hell you are, you don't toss a plate on the table like it's a rock. Have some respect. The atmosphere is a bit cheesy. I don't get the previous reviewer who noted that the atmosphere was, "My Big Italian Family w/NY Italian in their blood" - must be some sort of inner circle thing. The food was alright but not as good as grandma's. It's not a bad stop for lunch if you're by yourself. The groups seemed to overwhelm the staff. Hence the plate tossing. Moving on...

Best dining option in Troutman. The food is above average for Italian in the area between Mooresville and Statesville. The last time I ate here I ordered their capricioso salad (olives, roasted peppers, gorgonzola, etc) and it came out without any dressing. It was so good I ate it anyway. They make their own desserts, which is always worth an extra star. Caruso's is better, but this place is right by my house, not to mention less pricey and pretentious.

My impression is that of a pizza joint trying to be a restaurant, and not doing very well. The lighting was very bright and dining area loud...with quite a bit if the noise coming from the waitstaff. The serving station was apparently a gathering point for staff to chat about servers who didn't work as well as they did, cooks who were moody, and worst of all customers who they didn't care for. They also would help themselves to soda and even saw one grabbing bites of something to eat between tables...all in plain view of the dining room and very unappealing to those dining. My wife and I started with a side salad ($2.75 and $3.00 extra). She had the house salad made with wilted lettuce. My Cesar salad was obviously pre-made hours earlier. The romaine was in sad shape after swimming in dressing that long; I think they used a ladle to serve the salad from its tank in the kitchen. We wouldn't recommend you bother paying the extra price for these. The entrees were not terrible, but were obviously also both pieced together from precooked food and then heated together. This is not fine Italian food, more like American trying to be Italian food. I wish we had ordered the pizza. We saw a couple of those go by and they looked really good. If we came back, it would be for that pizza. There are much better Italian eateries (maybe not close by unfortunately).

A gem in my little hick town. ;) Troutman is not known for Five Star cuisine and this LA girl was thrilled to see Pellegrino's as they built and prepared to open. We've been loyal followers since day one and I'm thrilled the" high dollar" complaints from old school locals didn't doom this great eatery. My hubby and I usually spend $30 for two entrees and drinks, less if we do a whole pie and salad. The atmosphere is 'My Big Italian Family' and those w/NY Italian in their blood will feel at home. Pies are made to order (I always ask for a bubble in my crust) and the marinade used for the chicken in the caesar salad is insane. My husband is a seafood junkie and goes crazy for the Zuppa de Mare. Chicken Parm is delicious. No matter what you get, leftovers are likely. If you are from the Statesville/Troutman area and realize that quality food is for savoring and $15-20 per person IS NOT" high dollar", then I highly suggest trying Pellegrino's.

Made my first visit to Pellegrinos last week and was surprised at the food. We're my expectations low or was I thinking "Italian in Troutman, really?" Nice clean restaurant with a laid back atmosphere. I ordered the tortellini with the pesto cream sauce. Good portion served hot and fresh. Presentation was average at best. The bread on the table was stale and tasted old. Despite that , the tortellini was very good. Very good flavor. What was disappointing was the service. The waitress was nice enough but not very attentive. At one point the busboy came and had to refill our drinks. As I said, not bad service...just didn't feel much effort was given to us. We will give it one more shot to see if we just had a bad waitress or one having a bad night. Really hoping it was. If this place can get the service part fixed, this could be a "go to" place in Troutman.

I recently visited Lake Norman (from DC), and on our way out of town we decided to take the advice of a family member to check out Pellegrino. Boy were we surprised! We were told it was good, but totally not prepared for HOW fresh and tasty the food was! Here's the what's-what: Sweet tea: very sweet Pizza: delicious, thin, crispy crust, nicely flavored (but not over-powering) sauce, and perfect cheese Roasted Veggie Foccacia Sandwich: AMAZING!! Seriously-- THE best foccacia (and roasted veggies) I've had since I left San Francisco 11 years ago (I worked at two separate Italian/French restaurants in SF)!! Perfect, perfect, perfect! GREAT prices! GREAT flavors!! GREAT service!

The food was pretty good, but I found a rather large insect in my soda (after a refill) that looked like an earwig. When I told the waiter, he told me had ladybugs in his....it was that time of year. I was charged for the soda and that was that. Needless to say, that was my first and last visit.

This was our first visit. We make it a point to visit independent restaurants. I wish 95% of chain restaurants could be outlawed. Although I only had an appetizer as my entree (mussels), they were very flavorful. Good wine broth for soaking my bread. The three others with me enjoyed their entrees very much - pasta & meatballs, stuffed shells, and a pasta sausage dish disappeared quickly. No one brought home any food that night. We finished it all. Not only was the meal delicious, the atmosphere is very comfortable and family friendly. From the time we walked in with all the hellos to the top performance by our female server, it was a welcoming experience. After good food is good customer service. We were very pleased and will be back.

I currently live in the Boston area, home of the Italian North End. Pelligrino's would give any of the establishments there a run for their money! My folks take me by Pelligrino's almost every time I come down for a visit. I love their calamari with a spicy sauce. Their tortellini with alfredo is rich, creamy, and unbelievable. Their spaghetti carbonera is actually better than some I sampled in Rome. To top it all off, they make rolls from their pizza dough. Amazing! Add to this the fact that the family who owns this joint makes you feel like you are one of their own!

Help!!! John Pellegrino what the h.... have you done? May the heavens open up and a thousand angels strike me dead when I tell you this place "BEFORE" was the best most authentic Italian food in the area having a brick fired hand tossed made from scratch pizza it used to make my mouth water just to think about it. The only other places that could stand up to it was Georges in Salisbury and Wolf Gang Puck ( his was the best ) Today I got a large build my own sausage and sun dried tomatoes and a order of wings ( I was not by myself) First the wings came what happened to those panko crushed wings dusted with a little parm and a little dip in their marinara sauce. NOT NOT TOTALLY not the same and the marinara .. John you saw it ,its not what I had before in taste that's for sure... OK so my pizza came out come on... first the order was wrong( Not sure the crush did not taste the same to me) I did not order peperoni and when I told the server he said" It did taste good didn't it?" Thats not the point that is not what I ordered ! And now a sports bar is going next door and your selling the food to them so I guess you do not need to have the quality at a " Bar" than you had.. John please taste the food.. Do not put yourself into a "Paula Deen" business mentality so its OK if the food is lesser quality...I bet if I check your sysco account it has gotten larger think about it !More prepared food rolled in from a truck. But, its good bar food for sure YOUR not a bar remember? Its a Damm. shame !

Sooo, my husband and I had date night at Pellegrino's. I know I know, not as exciting as it sounds, but it was just what we needed, minus children (ours and others) running around all over the place. Upon entering, there is a bar set up where you can drink and watch TV, oh and watch the delicious pizza being made. (You almost don't get past this part.) You can eat at the bar as well. If I wasn't a big fat pregnant lady, I just might sit there and be entertained for a few hours. We made our way to the back and were seated immediately. The host was awesome and our waiter was fantastic! The menu was broken down into categories that made it easy to decide what you wanted to eat: Pasta, meat, fish, baked, salads...and sweets! Bread is brought to the table with oil and balsamic vinaigrette. De-lish! Food was just as I imagined. I come from a super ridiculous strong willed Italian family and nothing is as ever good as it was in Jersey or from home, but I will interject and say it was CLOSE! (My mother would pout if she heard me say that!) Very family felt food. Nothing that you would expect from a chain, which I have been trying to stay away from, so that was a welcome surprise. It appeared that they had a ton of wine, which unfortunately in my condition (sounds like I am terminal here) I cannot drink. But everyone else was, so I have to assume that it was fairly good. Sweet treats - Tiramisu tasted like my grandma's homemade! With the good stuff in it too. Oh, our food was nothing short of delicious. I had pasta and my husband had chicken which we both finished and then rolled out the door. I always grade a restaurant on how I feel when I leave, like in the indigestion department, and I truly felt wonderful waddling out the door. No heartburn tonight!

I was really looking forward to trying Pellegrinos Trattoria but was a little disappointed. When we arrived we were kind of stared at and had to ask about seating. Just felt a bit odd. The food was good but the service left a lot to be desired. There were four of us and two were drinking wine, one was drinking beer and I was drinking water. The entire time we were there, my water was never refilled. Our beer drinking friend had to ask repeatedly for another beer. Since there was a bottle of wine on the table the wine drinkers were set. For an Italian restaurant, no one was offered cheese or bread. Portion sizes were good. Shrimp Riveria was good. Chicken Parm was good but not exceptional. Friends ordered Vitello Alla Marsala and Vitello di Silvio. They both looked good and our friends seemed to enjoy them. Not sure we will go back. It is quite a drive for us for bad service. Unfortunately even really good food experiences can be spoiled by poor service.
