I'm not typically into coffee or coffee shops at all, but I'm starting to become a regular at this joint! I don't drink coffee, but the crazy summer heat and teaching 8AM classes has drawn me to their iced coffee --it's the perfect way to unwind after class. As someone who doesn't really enjoy the flavor of coffee, their iced coffee is really delicious--I get it with soy milk and hazelnut flavoring. My other favorite drink is their house-made horchata! It's soooo delicious. I don't know if it is authentic or not, but I love it. It's probably the item that I get the most :D I also love getting their oatmeal. They can put maple syrup in it which is delicious, and the dried fruits/nuts go really well. They don't skimp on anything either!!! Glad to say I have finally found a coffee shop that I love :) Also shoutout to the staff working there who is always prompt, thorough and friendly!

Awesome friendly staff, great coffee and house made pastries. What's not to love?

Can't have dairy with your coffee? Not a problem. Don't like coffee? Not a problem. This place is truly awesome. First, there are dairy free options for milk. My favorite is the almond rice milk that they make in house. They have many teas to also choose from and cider if you don't wish to drink coffee. Second, the food is great, especially the scones. The cheddar cheese one is the best. Third, they do a lot to use fair trade items and ornagic items. There is a wall with a featured coffee and where is comes from and who had grown it. The atmosphere is quiet and classy. Many students go there to do homework and such. This really is not a kids place though. Kids are loud and people are usually working or studying. It's a quiet coffee bar not a starbucks, so please mind your kids if you have to bring them there.

Love grabbing a cup of coffee here and the chocolate chip cookies are salted which is a crazy amazing mix! Usually get the coffee to go but I have also sat to do some work. The front of the store gets really warm when the sun shines but the back is nice when it's quiet, though listening to the gossip of the employees gets a little tiring (easily remedied with headphones).

Global Village has become my goto spot after my Friday morning workouts. They do great single cuppings of coffee and espresso drinks (I had a cappuccino today). I typically have the breakfast slider with Canadian bacon - it's a nice egg sandwich with a touch of hollandaise sauce. The staff and clientele are very friendly and there's just the right amount of ambient noise (at 7am at least!) for some reading and journaling before work!
(5)Jackie L.
To be fair, all I have had at Global Village is their drip coffee. Coffee is standard, comes out piping hot, no complaints. However I was displeased at the refill price. I paid over $2 for a small size coffee and the refill was $1.50. I've been to countless coffee shops and worked as a barista in several, but never have I seen a refill for plain coffee exceed $1. The hours are strange for being next to a college campus. I'm a student who works late hours in studio, so having a walking distance coffee shop open a little past 6PM would probably keep me coming back. However, other places beat out Global Village for me. It's always crowded when I go and nothing has really blown me away about this shop. Maybe one day I'll try one of their lattes that people seem to be nuts about.
(3)Stephanie H.
We wandered into Global Village after doing some nearby shopping. The atmosphere is really cool and screams "college town....sit down with your laptop and study aka cruise facebook and instagram". The location is easy to find, but I could see where parking can be kind of a pain. The barista was super friendly. I asked about almond milk, and they have almond rice milk, which is a swing and a miss for me. Regardless, I ordered a vanilla latte and my husband had an iced vanilla latte. We loved both, and after reading other reviews about pumpkin spice lattes, I will totally be back!!
(4)Rebecca S.
The oatmeal is exquisite with cinnamon and berries. Great atmosphere. The owner/barista is super nice.

Need a quick pick me up? Check out Global Village Organic Coffee. They may not have the friendliest staff, but the espresso is particularly flavorful and you don't have to feel guilty about the origins of your java. Lovely outdoor seating area will let you people watch whilst savoring your cup of joe.
(3)Nick P.
The coffee is great quality. Their specialty drinks are tasty. A few food options. Friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere. Prices are reasonable, too, especially for all this organic, fair trade, etc. stuff that usually jacks up the price. Very considerate of the student clientele that may be on a budget. Pretty much everything you want out of a coffee shop, although it is a bit cramped in there.

When I started attending NCSU, I began mapping places to do some quiet reading with a good latte (and maybe a baked good) after a long day of classes. One place fit the bill, so much so that I ended up trekking across Hillsborough St. from the library's own conveniently-placed, otherwise decent coffee shop just to get a small, medium, or large (tall, grande, and venti don't fly here) latte from these guys. This is Global Village. I've tried a few drinks at their place over the years: White Chocolate Pumpkin Latte, Horchata Latte, Mozart Mocha, plain old Mocha, to name a few. However, the ones I'd be remiss for not mentioning are the Caramel Milano and the Jasmine Green Amaretto Tea Latte. Unfortunately, they discontinued the Jasmine Green Amaretto a few years back, but they made up for it with their Honeybush Hazelnut. Trust me. They even offer a rewards program! Buy 10 drinks, get a free small! Just remember to pick up a card at the counter and get it punched after ordering. And I haven't even mentioned their baked goods, yet. I highly recommend their Salted Chocolate Chip cookies (provided that there are even any left in the cookie jars by the time you get there). Their Ginger Molasses cookies are a close second. If you enjoy a good panini, muffin, biscotti, yogurt, fruit, or breakfast sandwich, they won't let you down. They offer board games, such as Scrabble, Chess, Backgammon, Checkers, and even Bananagrams, to play if you're visiting with a friend (or if you happen to meet someone there). They even have live guitar and mandolin on Saturday mornings, offering a folky, tavern-ish feel to the place. Every little touch makes the environment that much more inviting, to assure you that they're not trying to rush you out the door, that they welcome the time you're spending there. It's simply a great place to get a flavorful coffee and kick back after a day of classes or work, or if you're just looking to kill some time. If you've been curious and have wanted to try it out, go for it. You'll enjoy it, to be sure. I did (and still do)!
(5)K P.
I have always loved this place. They have great coffee and snacks, and the people working there (including the owner) are so nice.
(5)Adam Z.
Coffee tastes awesome. It's very flavorful with out being bitter, I love that they have simple syrup to sweeten it. The key lime green tea smoothie is awesome. It was perfect for a hot day, mildly sweet green tea flavor with just a little tart. The staff is always upbeat and friendly and the owner is a cool, passionate guy. I just wish they had bigger cups!
(5)Bethany F.
I love this place! The cappuccinos are delicious, which I discovered by accident since I don't usually order cappuccinos but am so glad I did. I live in Durham and go out of my way to come here. The baristas have always been friendly and it's a quiet enough place to set up shop and get some work done.
(5)Blake M.
As a grad student at NCSU my building is across the street from Global Village. This is super convenient because like most grad students I require a good amount of caffeine. I've had iced coffee, pumpkin spice lattes, and an earl grey tea latte. All were delicious, reasonably priced, and they offer soy milk (a requirement for this vegan). I always get my coffee to go, so I can't comment on the atmosphere or wifi, but I'll definitely keep coming back for my afternoon pick me up.
(4)CityGirlCece F.
Simple things are tasty things. At least they should be, .....and they are at this place. Pleasant service too. Love the coffee and the English muffin with egg, cheese & Canadian bacon.
(5)Lauren R.
This is a great local coffee shop! I've stopped in for coffee and I've bought their specialty bulk coffee by the pound (they have a great selection). Everyone in the shop is friendly. The coffee, of course, is good. This epitomizes a local coffee shop in a college town (it's right across from NC State). Sometimes, I just want to hang out here with a cup of coffee and a laptop and pretend I'm still in college.
(4)Rob H.
Awesome coffee. Good vibes. I love the service level people are themselves and there is limited wanna be types it's real it's coffee it's good
(5)Kris C.
The coffee and atmosphere are great, but the WiFi is super slow/spotty. There's around ten people in here as I write this, which is about less than half the capacity, and I can barely watch a YouTube clip.
(2)Kylie S.
Coffee wasn't bitter and they had non dairy options. Thumbs up in my book. Wide variety of coffee concoctions to please any and everyone. Definitely a place to check out.
(5)CN D.
The espresso here is excellent and I love the owner. A few years ago, I ordered a cafe Saigon and realized I forgot my money. Instead of getting pissed, the owner let me have the drink for free. I was so happy. Just moved back to the area and am a loyal customer. The Ethiopian beans are really good.
(5)Daniela N.
When I went to NCSU I would go here between classes to get caffeine and a snack. It is generally pretty busy but you can usually find a table. Food is not amazing, but decent. Employees aren't all that friendly. It was still my favorite cafe on Hillsborough Street though.
(4)Joel V.
The coffee is quite good, the inside has a bit of room but it's normally crowded because it's one of the only cafés on Hillsborough. The pastries are decent.
(4)Mary S.
Coffee is good but staff is pretentious and rude. I've never had one smile from any of the staff - even when I'm the one saying "thank you" all the time. Whenever I order, I feel like it's too much of a bother for them. Or maybe they think I'm cheap because I don't order all the pastries they have to offer. That's the feeling I get anyway. As some other reviewers have mentioned, they are quite strict about having to order something (which is totally understandable) and when you order something (don't even think about sitting down first unless you want a very public confrontation.)
(2)Megan D.
You never really know what you have until it's gone... I recently moved out of NC and I'm craving a good coffee place. Every one I go to isn't good enough and I find myself missing Global Village. Everything I've had here is wonderful, you really can't go wrong. My favorite is the Cafe Saigon. It is very busy during breakfast and lunch during the school year, but they handle the crowd very well.
(5)Douglas S.
Visiting Raleigh and stumbled on this place because I had to go to a nearby Kinko's. Simply the best espressos I've ever had, which is saying something considering I'm from the Bay Area. Friendly people and good food, too! Highly recommended.
(5)Cassie B.
Thank goodness I'm an addict. Because I cannot be within a 1 mile radius and avoid stopping in global village. The employees were super friendly, even one who had been a little sour to me before. But I won't cry over spilled milk, and I'm glad to be back.
(5)Anthony G.
This place is really good and the prices are fair too. The staff is nice and it does get crowded during the school year HOWEVER I think that they should have longer hours and open at night and during the weekends because it is such an awesome place (Do people still say awesome) The iced mocha is really good and you don't get that pretentious Barbie barista BS when you come here.
(4)Katie K.
I've got nothing but mad love for this place. It is amazing. The staff is so nice. The owner is funny, and he occasionally has taken my order. He once made fun of me for getting a cafe au lait made with skim milk, saying the French wouldn't like my choices. He's right... :D One of my favorite things is to get the fresh brewed coffee of the day, and then ask the baristas to surprise me with the syrup flavors they put in. You'll see all types of people in here: professors, students, young, old, hipster, mainstream, etc. It has a hipster vibe since it's got the whole organic and fairtrade thing going, but that doesn't change anything about their menu. My only tiny little hitch is that the place usually has more people in the store than it can comfortably accomadate, but this is such a minor flaw compared to the amazingness of it overall!!
(5)Paul K.
WiFi is spotty and it's a little noisy, but if you bring headphones it's a good place to study. Great ethics and even better coffee.

Pumpkin Pie in a Mug Visit: September 21 Hello autumn! Global Village is celebrating fall with pumpkin flavored lattes. Yeah! I had the pumpkin spice latte and Global Village receives a first prize ribbon for this creative and yummy coffee drink. It tasted like pumpkin pie in liquid form with the added benefit of a jolt of caffeine. Woohoo! Global Village serves Joe Van Gogh Coffee beans and this is the second time I have had coffee made from this roaster. The first time at Benelux Cafe, I noticed a big hit of caffeine and wondered if it was from the bean and/or how the coffee was brewed. However, I received the same happy buzz from this second latte made with Joe Van Gogh beans. So I have concluded that this roaster has some serious beans...HI octane! When I left Global Village I felt I could climb a mountain and conquer the world. Needless to say, Joe Van Gogh's beans rock! My husband had a Café Americano and he was very impressed with the rich, strong, robust flavor. You can purchase the whole beans at Global Village to make caffeinated beverages at home. The coffee was served in thick glass mugs. There was music playing softly in the background. There were games like checkers, chess, Scramble, and Tic-Tac-Toe. They also offer lots of goodies like cupcakes, muffins, and sandwiches. I really liked the vibe of this coffee house and plan to visit again soon.
(4)P G.
There's a lot of good coffee options in Raleigh. But this is the only place that checks ALL the boxes for an iced mocha lover like me. Taste: check. Organic coffee and milk: check. 100% corn plastic cup is compostable: check (why doesn't everybody do this?). But here's the coup de grace...this is the only place in Raleigh I've been to so far that uses shaved/chipped, so called "chewy" ice for the mocha! It chills the mocha completely and won't break your teeth when you crunch it. It's the best iced mocha experience! Oh, AND it's no more expensive than other places. That's it. Game over. You just can't beat it!
(5)Janine R.
Every time I buy coffee at Global Village it is amazing! I'm not a regular coffee drinker, but when I do buy coffee I should always do it at Global Village. The staff is friendly and my drink is perfect! Anytime I purchase coffee elsewhere since trying Global Village I wish I had waited till I was on Hillsborough St.
(5)Amanda H.
I want to love you guys, I really do. Your lattes are spot on, your baristas are ridiculously friendly, and you serve honey vanilla gelato. So what's not to love? Well for some reason I can never get comfortable here. GV's a little too loud for good conversation, a little too stark for relaxing, and lot too distracting for getting work done. I'm afraid you've become my go-to grab-and-go. But never fear - I consume enough caffeine to support both you and Reverie and most of the other indpendent coffee shops in Raleigh. (Okay, and Durham, too).
(3)Erin T.
I really like Global Village Coffee. The first time I went it was at the advice of fellow Yelpers, and they were so right; this place is good. Last time I went I had a Pumpkin Spice Late which was delicious, came out quickly, and was piping hot, just how I like it. The only downside is, I can't seem to find any plugs for my laptop, and I'd love to come there with my computer to study.
(4)Paul S.
So, I used to live off the infamous Hillsborough traffic circle near NCSU, post college. I did not attend NCSU, but decided to live near the campus anyway. Yes, you may begin your ridicule. I got introduced to Global Village by a hipster friend of mine, but please don't let that discourage you. A warm interior, fun decorations, but it doesn't look the kind of place to shake off a PBR hangover. Think of it as a cross of Starbucks and Cup O Joe. Its the kind of coffee house that college students, young professionals, and my mother wouldn't mind going to, without apology. The coffee is well done, and the espresso drinks are top notch. With two years being a former barrista, I have to say they know how to sling the bean. I got a "Mediterranean Irish" and haven't looked back. Clean, safe, pleasant, with a good vibe and a good time. What's not to love?
(5)Marin J.
Lovely atmosphere live music great coffee, a barista who cares. Two small niggles; One-- the baked goods rather uninspiring. Sometimes I smuggle in my own. Two-- it's in wolfie-town. I have to sneak in without my powder blue converses on!

I have no idea how to start the review for the coffee shop that holds one of the deepest places in my heart. And before you expect an emotionally-biased review, you must know, I have a pretty judgmental heart. Many coffee shops have lost-out for various reasons over the years, but once you win me over, I'm normally a fan for life. Global Village did just that. Sure, I could tell you all the reasons GV has my unwavering loyalty. I could tell you how Mike's espresso goes unrivaled anywhere in the Triangle. I could tell you what it was like to walk across campus on a blustery day, just to sit in a soft chair under the big, sunny front window with a glass of coffee. I could tell you about the late-night study sessions. I could tell you about a first date that I brought here. But I won't. I'll tell you instead a brief story that sums-up my entire relationship with Global Village and will sum-up this review. After graduating from State, I would make frequent visits back to Raleigh and Global Village, but always seem to miss the familiar baristas whenever I would stop-in. Until one morning, about 1.5 years after leaving town, I wandered back into my favorite haunt to get a little bit of work done while I was traveling that week. I sauntered up to the counter just as a customer was walking away, and as Mike turned his head & noticed me, he said, without even a pause: "Good morning, Patrick. Welcome Home." 18 months. Remembered my name. Remembered my drink. Practically made me cry in a coffee shop at nine in the morning. Little did he know how hard of a time I'd been having away from this new home that was forged in college. He may never know the weight of lives that have been touched within his walls. Global Village is the type of coffee shop you almost don't notice when you're there, because everything feels like home. Make it a point to go.
(5)Katie S.
Hands down, best Coffee Shop in Raleigh. I live around the corner from Global Village and I visit multiple times a week. Every time I walk in, I'm greeted by the friendly baristas and the owner when he's there. My drink and food are always on point. I'm always satisfied and I'm able to study while I enjoy my coffee. I've never been let down by the quality. Plus, they don't charge extra for soy milk and it's cheaper than Starbucks! Whenever I visit another coffee shop it's not the same! It's a local college coffee shop that both student and professors enjoy. The only think I wish they would change is how they advertising of the frequent buyer cards. I visit at least 3 times a week (usually more). They know my usual order. No one ever offered me one of their "Java Club" card. I had to ask myself (once I found out they existed). I thought that they'd want to give out frequent buyer cards, especially to regular customers who don't already have a card. Even so, the atmosphere, value, and quality are far superior than all coffee shops around!
(5)Stu W.
i can't stop ordering the mediterranean irish.
(5)David B.
I've had coffee here a number of times, while it is pretty good and very conveniently located... I'm never going back. I took a meeting there at 3:00 in the afternoon. I didn't buy any coffee since it was so late in a the day. We had probably been there 30 minutes when a young employee came to our table and told us to leave since we didn't buy anything. When I said I had been there a number of times and usually bought something, she said that she didn't care. Then she compared buying a coffee to buying a ticket at the movie theater... and I didn't buy a ticket that day??? Unfortunately, the manager was not on duty because I would have loved to hear his take on it. We enjoyed the rest of our meeting at Jasmines and then bought food from there. They seemed to appreciate our business.

I am not a huge fan of coffee chains especially Starbucks. The arrogance of these big brands shows in their coffee and in their service. The only point where I could expect things not to change in my two years at NC State was global village. Here's what I love about this place 1) Mocha Pacific - The perfect mocha (neither too milky, nor too chocolaty and the right amount of coffee) with macadamia nut syrup is my usual drink there 2) Lemon-Ginger Tea - They don't have this on their menu. You need to be specific. Add a bit of honey into it and its sheer bliss when the weather outside is sunny and chilly 3) Cafe Saigon - This is a very unique and awesome drink i have had here. An iced drink made with two shots of espresso and equal parts condensed milk. It's served in two glasses, one to stir the espresso and milk and the second with crushed ice to add the stirred mixture into. If you don't understand this ask Mike there, he will explain 4) The feel of the place - Its just how I expect a coffee shop to be. Good music. I have had the pleasure of many good conversations and games of scrabble here :) 5) The staff - The final piece that makes this the perfect coffee place. You need to be there to understand why I say this. The food here is not that great. But who cares! And this place is closed on Sundays!!
(5)Ted B.
Great barristas, local roasts brewed by the cup, and well crafted espresso drinks. Wish there was more bean selection, but you can't have everything. The location is a little small for how busy they stay, but I might just feel that way because I'm a big guy - I've never had trouble getting a seat. I was relieved to find such a solid shop just a few minutes from work. I'll definitely be a regular!
(4)Allen C.
Global Village is probably my favorite coffee shop near NC State campus. I should clarify that as far as coffee comes, I really only drink plain black coffee, so this is how I judge a coffee shop. I really don't know anything about lattes and frappes and frappechinos. The fanciest I've ever gotten with a cup of coffee was with a couple of shots of espresso in it. So, bear that in mind, I guess. But, the coffee itself is never bitter, and they get their beans from Larry's Beans, and rightly so. Global's atmosphere is very laid back and relaxed, and somehow it really does seem to encourage me to be productive, which is great when I'm trying to finish a paper like I should be doing right now while writing this review. The staff are all friendly and will start to recognize you after a few times you've been there. The owner dude is also really nice, and will talk to you for hours if you don't look busy. If you're an NC State student, this is really your best bet for a good cup of coffee between classes. However, if you aren't a State student, I'm not sure that I'd encourage you to try to deal with the Hillsborough street traffic just to come here.
(4)Vanessa O.
Are you ready for this? Best..coffee shop...ever. Ever. And I've been to a lot of damn good coffee places. In Raleigh we are incredibly lucky to be so saturated with a fantastic coffee culture. There are lots of options. The Morning Times makes a fab drink and their friendly service and perfectly iced lattes always make me happy. But you see, Global Village has Mike, and Mike is made of pure coffee awesome. He is clearly passionate, dedicated and in love with what he does, and it shows..because he's there! Color me a fan girl, but I have never had a cappuccino prepared with that level of precision. And the best part? I've been there when Mike isn't there..and his adorable, friendly baristas are clearly trained to make things 'the Mike way'. (The milk is not scoldingly hot, the foam is perfect, not over dry, and the flavorings they use have FLAVOR and aren't all sugar. Oh, and for the curious they use Joe Van Gogh's beans. Woot!) To note, this isn't really a place with a huge menu of edibles - the focus is coffee and I have zero complaints about that. I haven't tried to plug in here yet - but if I needed to I would be sorely tempted to gift Mike with a power strip. Long Live Mike and his Global Coffee Village!
(5)Mike M.
This is my second home in Raleigh. Global village serves exquisite coffee, a great selection of loose teas blended to order, and of course savory sandwiches. At any time of the day, the place is a buzzing with gathering students, gossiping professors, and caffeine junkies who require copious fair trade coffee to power them through their next term paper. The energetic staff are the best part of my day...I'm happy to see them even before I'm fully caffeinated. The vibe is great and it is the best cup of coffee you'll find in the Triangle.
(5)Ryan M.
I have to rescind a star. I really like Global Village and its coffee (their cappuccino is probably my favorite), but I'm just too frequently disappointed by: 1) what is to me lackluster food, which comes off like a a begrudged obligation-as-cafe or an afterthought, rather than a source of pride; and by 2) the short(er) hours--I need coffee at night and on Sundays!! Still great, though.
(4)Pamela O.
You can get Joe Van Gogh beans by the pound here! Unfortunately, they refill the bins once they run out, so the beans may not be fresh.
(4)Anna S.
I love coffee shops, and global village is one of the best I've been. The coffee is amazing - so good I could almost drink it black (only almost, I'm not a black coffee fan). The atmosphere is equally great for doing work as it is for chatting and hanging out with friends. The only reason I give this a 3star rating instead of a 4 or 5star one is the lack of plugs. There are 2 available in the whole place - and one is used to run a fountain. My laptop is almost perpetually out of battery and therefore I spend a lot less time at Global Village than I would like!
(3)Emily P.
Besides Cup of Joe, Global Village is *the* coffee shop for NC State students to visit. The independent coffee shop has some amazing coffee and latte drinks. The highlight of Global village for me however is their food rather than their coffee options. They have some excellent sandwiches that make for a pretty great lunch when you're on the go (or in-between classes). The place is usually pretty full of college students (especially around lunch time) so if you're put off by that then you might want to stray away.
(4)Azais C.
So I thought this place was cool at first even though it was always packed, loud, and lacking in outlets. One day, I bought a coffee and yogurt and set up my computer to study. Within an hour of being there, my husband called me to pick him up because he was stranded on hillsborough...less than 10 blocks away. I left my stuff at the coffee shop because it would take me less than 15 mins total to do all this. Well, it took me 20, and when I walked back into the cafe the owner verbally attacked me because "I took up an outlet space." By the way, this was at 10am on a Saturday, and there were 7 EMPTY OUTLETS and chairs next to those outlets. I couldn't believe how I was being treated and the words he used to offend me , so I packed my stuff and headed down the street to Cup-A-Joe ( ONE MILLION TIMES BETTER). Anyway, my advice: go somewhere else and spare yourself any potential drama. Cup A Joe is much larger with better prices, more food, and LOTS OF OUTLETS.
(1)Leslie C.
I found this place on yelp...I was falling asleep at work and needed a good caffeine jolt. I read the reviews and decided to give it a chance. I went in at 1pm on a thursday, the place was packed but seemed mostly chill. There was a line, but it was super fast. I saw a guy looking very" smiley" behind the counter and asked if he was Mike. Indeed he was, he asked my name and welcomed me warmly. I left blushing with a fruit cup on one hand and an iced mint mocha in the other. The drink was great., it had a more complex taste and a rich texture. Delicious! The fruit was fresh. I would come back.
(5)Melanie B.
If I could package up Mike and take him with me everywhere I move, I would. Or, I would just move into Global Village. The coffee is bar none. The Mediterranean Irish? I've tried replicas elsewhere, but no place does it like GV. This place is a STAPLE on Hillsborough St (I just hope they survive the H St "redevelopment"). NCSU doesn't know what gem it has in GV. The panini's are wonderful (highly recommend the chicken salad panini if they have it - it will blow your mind).
(5)Haynus S.
Excellent coffee, whether the day's house coffee, an espresso, or the "brew by the cup"! Plus, they have a wide selection of teas (including non-caffeinated organics) and other drinks! During the Fall and Spring semesters at NCSU, GVOC tends to be really busy from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., but the line moves fairly steadily. Space is at a premium, as well, fyi. They sell whole beans, which they will also kindly grind for your convenience.
(5)Megan B.
I've only been here once but definitely plan on stopping in more often. I ordered an iced americano and I think it might be the best I've ever had. (I consider myself a bit of a coffee snob so I think that's saying something.) I also had one of their peanut butter and chocolate granola bars (which I believe was vegan and gluten free) and it was DELICIOUS. Moving from a city with a huge coffee culture to Raleigh was a bit of a shock so I'm ecstatic to have found Global Village.

Sometimes you want to go [to a cafe] where everybody knows your name. Apparently this is the place! If you're a State student. All the youngn's coming through seemed to know Mike and lots of them even knew each other. I have to admit, that sort of local business comradery really gave me some warm fuzzies. And though I'm neither a Wolfpack or a regular, the duo behind the counter was still really sweet. (Couldn't see that Tarheel blue blood coursing through my veins, most likely.) I enjoyed a well-blended latte and even the company of the cider-sipping gal at a neighboring table. Curses to the never-ending construction on Hillsbo (that indirectly cost me a $30-parking ticket :pout:)...but I'm seriously glad to see it doesn't seem to put much of a damper on the foot traffic round here.

Coffee at its best.! Love Global Village.. I think I have tried their entire menu, and am glad I tried 'em all. I'm a big fan of their cappuccino and Assam mint tea. Service here is impeccable. If you have time, you can always play the board games they have there. It will be nice if they could provide more power outlets. At times, they have people playing music and the combination of music and coffee here is pure bliss!

i was an ncsu student from 2002-2007 and always stopped in before or in between classes for coffee at GV. now that i'm living in CA i miss GV like crazy! it's hard to find organic, fare trade, GLOBAL coffee around here. i wish GV had an online store where i could order from! the freshness and tastiness of their rich coffee is definitely hard to find in Orange County, CA. if i ever return to NC, GV will be one of my first stops!

Great coffee, it wasn't boged down with sugar and chocolate like most coffee shops. The atmosphere was hip but there were a lot of college students so I couldn't get a seat. The owner just had a great attitude too and that goes a long way.

I've been to this place a few times and normally it's been pretty good, but the most recent visit I received a phone call as I was going in and *after* I ordered the woman at the counter said she couldn't place my order until I got off the phone. Poor service.

Great coffee in a great location. I used to stop here between classes to study. Staff is really friendly.

World class coffee, free speedy wifi, tasty snax. Charming staff. Outdoor seating, couches and wicker chairs, or benches. or a table - whatever you want. Great use of space. Not exaggerating about the coffee, either. Have taken friends from Italy, Ecuador, Colombia, even friends from NYC who are super snobby about coffee - and they were all very pleasantly surprised. A few different roasts are always available, muffins & cookies look lovely, and the sammys are good. I've lived in plenty of major cities, and this is one of my all-time favourite coffee shops.

Great coffee and service! I love their creative specialty espresso drinks. Everyone behind the counter is super nice and helpful. I ordered one of their breakfast sandwiches and was pleasantly surprised. I thought the sliced hard-boiled egg might be weird, but it was delicious. Must have been the yummy sauce!

I have a rule of not going to chain places when I travel if I can help it. I originally wasn't coming to the university area for this coffee shop, but the other one was closed and I found Global Village. I walked in and it was a typical college town coffee shop, which I love. The people were nice and coffee was really good. I had a special Hawaiian brew-over-the-cup coffee and I am kicking myself I didn't see if I could buy some beans. I love that they serve coffee in glass cups if you are staying there. It tastes so much better than paper cups and plastic lids.

Once it was a bicycle shop. When I first started going to State it was a Caribou Coffee. Now it is the coffee shop that killed Starbucks... or so legend would have it. (A Starbucks opened across the street in what's now Marrakesh Cafe, and everyone was so worried about GV losing business... HA). If the Starbucks-slaying thing doesn't do it for you, there's so much more to like about GV. They have the absolute BEST panini anywhere in town, and were one of the first coffee shops in the area to offer them (especially tasty is the chicken salad, but go early if you want one - they tend to sell out by late morning). Also GV seems to be the only coffee shop on Hillsborough Street that really cares about the flavor of the coffee they serve. Mike(the owner)'s espresso is the best I've tasted - even after living in Seattle, and traveling to Italy. They also have live music from a couple of really cool local musicians every Wednesday and Saturday morning

I know that I'm in the minority on this one, but I just don't love Global Village. The coffee is good, but it's often difficult to find somewhere to sit, which is important for me when choosing a coffee shop.

Every time I've been inside Global Village, I've had to contend with the throngs of students grappling for a place in line. Even though I would estimate that there are approximately seven thousand coffee shops within a three mile radius of the NCSU campus, Global Village is always busy. That right there should tell you that the coffee is some of the best around. Everything the other reviewers have said is true: this place is one of the best. They've got great food to go with the coffee, and a friendly, comfy atmosphere. They also offer live music on some nights, mostly mellowed out acoustic stuff. I like to come here to kill some time or for some friendly conversation, although Cup a Joes sometimes wins out by having a smoking room, Global definitely wins out by having better food to go with the coffee.

Global Village is the coffee meca, Mike will tell you everything you should know about his coffees, he wil not make you feel guilty for drinking Starbucks, but you will, yes you will begin to hate yourself every time you are tempted by corporate cups of sameness. The best cups of java I have ever had, have been either in Italy or at Global Village, always consistent, always perfect, Thank you Mike.

Global Village serves excellent espresso drinks. They have some wonderful house-recommended specialty drinks like the Caramel Milano Latte which combines hazelnut and caramel flavor - delicious! The baked goods and panini sandwiches are also good. One thing to remember about the paninis: they taste great all toasted up, but the crunchy bread can really rip up the top and bottom of your mouth. They grill their paninis for 3 minutes and 30 seconds. Try asking for yours to be grilled for only 2 or 2 and half minutes; your mouth will thank you. Also, the staff is very friendly and will always accommodate unusual orders (like different grill time on paninis :-). They have free wi-fi which I take advantage of often, but this brings up the only reason why I sometimes go to Cup-A-Joe instead...Global Village only has 1 or maybe 2 available electrical outlets in the whole place. So, if you're hoping to plug your laptop in while you're there, make sure to head toward the back of the shop where there is one plug by the little waterfall. Other than the lack of plugs, Global Village is my go-to spot for good coffee, free wi-fi and a nice group of customers from NCSU (who aren't so loud that they can't be blocked out by my earphones)!

We really enjoyed our lunch here; my favorite part was the ambiance. There were games along the wall for customers to enjoy, including chess, checkers, cards, and trivia games. We went with the trivia card game, which was a very pleasant way to amuse ourselves during lunch. It was quiet enough to study but loud enough to chat. Overall, it had a far more relaxed and less pretentious vibe than in a Starbucks. We both had paninis, which were pretty good, although not top notch. They were pre-made, but were warmed up and lightly toasted. The flavors were interesting, but it wasn't a favorite for me. The drinks were far better; I'd definitely go back for coffee if we're in the area again.

Besides fantastic friends and my alum uni, Global Village is one of the main things I miss and LOVE about Raleigh. The owner, Mike, has created an amazing atmosphere for studying, a cozy conversation with a friend or two, or meeting new people. The baristas are generally friendly, Mike is awesome, and can we mention insanely good coffee? Delicious paninis? Yummy cookies? I never ever felt pressured to buy anything when I would go there to study (any time I could!), even if I sipped on my $1 cup of tea for an hour. It just felt like home. Even here in New York, I'm yearning to find the GV atmosphere right for me. Along with the coffee. I've gone through two pound bags of their coffee since here, and I'm out.. Not sure what I'm gonna do without my GV morning fix!

I would like to give it a ten-star rating if it's possible. We've been looking all around the world for good panini. But no, Global Village has the World Champion Chicken Panini AND Coffee. Mike, can you just move back to Bay area and open a Cafe here? :)

Had to give this place 5 stars because of how ridiculously nice and helpful the baristas behave. They greet you with a smile and the woman taking my order was patient as I asked a ton of questions about their food. If you're feeling like something other than a basic espresso drink they have delicious and creative specialties. After I ordered one of the baristas saw me struggling with the napkin despencer and quickly fixed it for me. The place has a decent amount of tables, too.

Oh, Mike. And your coffee shop. I can't tell you how much I love you. It. How much I love getting a hot mocha on a rainy October day on my way to class, or how I beat the balmy summertime with your mango smoothie. On occasion you have a lovely frappe I am certain to try. The atmosphere is cozy and there are often attractive young people that frequent the joint to use your wifi. Godbless Global Village.

This place is great! Friendly staff and amazing coffee drinks. They are adding more and more healthy and homemade snacks as time goes on too and offer organic and fair-trade coffee. Only downside is it is popular and can be difficult to find a spot to sit down during prime university hours 10-4. Wonderful coffee shop.

Preface: I do not much like coffee. Before the flaming-torch-bearing lynch mob shows up to my house, let me add that I still get it from time to time because I like caffeine; legal drugs are awesome. Since every other human being on the planet (or so it seems) likes coffee quite a lot I am fortunate in that I have a lot to choose from when looking for a shop. I like the layout of Global Village; it's a nice place to find a corner in and leech wifi. While I can't speak on the quality of the coffee (not being a connoisseur; I have to drown everything in extras) I can attest to their diversity of menu, and their tasty cookies. It's definitely worth an investigation if you don't want to slum it at the library coffee shop.

I visited GV the day before Thanksgiving and it was understandably mellow. All I can say is I wish my hometown had coffee this good. The Americano was the best I've ever had and my wife's soy latte was equally delicious. Easily the best coffee I had in Raleigh and probably on my trip throughout Georgia and the Carolinas. Organic and Fair Trade on top of that! Great!

Really nice coffee shop with good atmosphere, coffee, and treats. Can be a little crowded during the week.

This coffeeshop is independently owned and it shows. The coffee there is tasty, with a wide range of offerings, from Starbucks-like frapps to straight-up coffee. They have a lunch special - sandwich, fruit and their house mint tea. It is yumminess and a reasonable price, too. Right next to a college campus, so is generally bustling. Also, their cookies are TO DIE FOR. They are super yummy.
