First, "Thanks!" & a tip o' th' hat to fellow Yelpers Mr & Mrs H for tippin that the Sam's Hot Dog in Hickory was a good stop. This outlet, in the Morganton-piedmont area is a terrific stop for that all-american treat, the Hot Dog. Located on 810 Fleming Drive just before Moondogs Pizza. Sams has good signage, and a walk-up OR drive through window, both outta the weather under the awning of the old drive-in bank. There's a couple of picnic tables under the shelter, which made for a pleasant venue following a weekly supply stop at Ace and Ingles Groc. The ALL BEEF dogs are perfectly cooked, rich & flavorful, delightful upon the palate. The dog "fills" the bun, by the way. The dogs can be dressed to taste with mustard, ketchup, mayo, onions, coleslaw, sweet relish, sauerkraut and jalapeños. Today I tried a two-dog combo with chips & drink ($5.45+ tax), and dove into one of the all beef models dressed in sauerkraut & jalaps. Dog two was the classic 'chili & cheese' model. Sam's isn't shy about adding the condiment items to your dogs, by the way. These pups were so tasty that I had to return to the window for a slaw-dog (for the road). Okay, excessive consumption!! The slaw was perfect, not too tart or wet: just right in flavor and consistency for the short ride on the bun. If you're feeding a pack of hungry hounds, consider ordering one of the "Dog Packs" available in six, twelve, or twenty-four" packs! Oh yeah! The young lady at the window mentioned that brauts are on the way! The only negative on my review relates to the sweet tea: It's simply too sweet! So, deduct 1/4-star and rate this enjoyable experience a SOLID 3.75!
