Usually I would rate this place five stars because I think they are awesome. However, I went there the other day and got filets of catfish and filets of trout. I brought the bag home and froze them. I opened the bag up today and both types of fish were in the same bag. I called the business and the "boss" told me that it shouldn't matter and that fish is fish. I guess it doesn't matter that different types of fish taste, well, different..and combing them in the same bag is ridiculous and messes with the flavor. This will sound uppity, but maybe because I'm not from Jacksonville, I have tastes buds which can sense the differing flavors in food. You shouldn't have to ask to have two different types of fish in TWO different bags. Not to mention, I wanted to cook catfish tonight, but now I have to cook all of the fish or else throw it out. I've gone to many other fish places as well and they always put fish in separate bags.

BEST SEAFOOD AND FISH IN THE AREA HANDS DOWN!!!!! I wish I could carry this place in my back pocket!!! The catfish is WAAAYYY better than J.J's of Chicago. The fried chicken taste so homeade, I had to call my mama to make sure she wasn't the one cooking this food. They have a GREAT menu for us country folk that city peeps should also enjoy. Sure the name doesn't sound like the cliche seafood and fry spot and it doesn't look like Captain D's or Sylvia's, but DAMMIT it's GOOD!!!!! But if you're swayed by appearance and names, maybe you don't deserve to eat good!!!! lol When I was stationed in Camp Lejeune, this would be the only spot I got my fried chicken and catfish from. The homeade desserts are banging too. Somebody's auntee or grandma really do make these desserts(that's what I was told anyways).

Lobby could use a good cleaning. The seafood trays are the best and made fresh. No complaints here. If you like fried seafood. I recommend you try it.

Shortly after we first moved here ('03) we drove by this ramshackle-looking place and said "That place looks scary. But you know, it probably has the best seafood in town." The first time we went there, we were not impressed--there was nothing fresh (everything was frozen) and I didn't know what half the stuff was... in short, not appealing at all. We left within probably two minutes. But indeed, we kept hearing from all sorts of people that THIS was the place to get seafood, so we gave it another shot...and it was definitely worthwhile! The trick is going right when they get their fresh seafood in--I am sure there is a schedule, and I am sure I asked at one point, but all I can remember is we usually have luck on Saturday mornings. We should go there more, but it just happens to be a place we forget about, because we are so rarely on Bell Fork--and so rarely think about shopping for seafood on a Saturday morning! That said, we usually just get shrimp, scallops, or tuna--and it is always wonderfully fresh and delicious. The staff has always been nice and helpful as well. They don't get 5 stars because of the atmosphere and curb appeal. Yes, I know it's a fish market and doesn't need to be glamorous, but I think if they dressed it up a bit, it would be better (and probably garner more business). Overall, though, I would definitely recommend this place.
